Aegean cuisine is shaped by the sun, the sea and the soil. Culinary methods passed down through generations have become an intrinsic part of Aegean cuisine. Our mission is to provide the most authentic representation of modern Greek cuisine and culture, while holding on to the generations past. Our little taverna that could serves a balance of traditional mezze plates, fresh seafood and contemporary creations, located on Ossington Ave in Toronto's famed West end.
Mamakas is an absolute gem! The vibe of the restaurant was fantastic, with a warm and inviting atmosphere that made our evening even more special. The food was nothing short of delicious—every dish was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable about all the dishes on the menu, which made our dining experience even better. My party of four opted for the Chef Tasting Menu at $75 per person, and it was worth every penny. It allowed us to enjoy a little bit of everything they had to offer, and each dish was better than the last. If you’re looking for a place that combines amazing food, great ambiance, and excellent service, I highly recommend Mamakas. We’ll definitely be back!
Had a delicious meal here. Came to celebrate my mother’s birthday. We ordered a lot of different menu items to try. Surprisingly my favourite was the moussaka. Their in house pita bread was also very delicious and fluffy. The service was also good.
Went for my Birthday celebration with my boyfriend. We got the tasting menu with greek wine. Food wise it was pretty good. But the portion size for octopus and lamb chop was too little. Instead they give you too much tomatoes and fries trying to fill you up lol. I wouldn’t do tasting menu next time. The staff was nice but I felt a little rushed tho. They brought my second wine when I haven’t even finished my first glass of wine.
5! Went back to Mamakas for dinner recently (haven’t been in a few years) and it was truly better than I remembered. We did the tasting menu and it was fantastic from start to finish. Loved the Greek salad and the dips - especially the taramasalata. The mains were great and everything was well timed. They were super accommodating to allergies (both dairy and soy) and still included all the dairy parts separately for us. The only part that wasn’t as good as I remember it was the octopus and I think we may have just had an off piece- because historically it has been great. The service was attentive but not overly friendly. We finished with the Greek mountain tea, which was the perfect end to a lovely meal.
I’ve had a lot of Greek food in the past and we also like cooking it at home. This place is hands down the best Greek restaurant in the city! The food is super creative while remaining traditional in flavour and the menu has a lot of great options to pick from. Our server was super nice and very informative and helpful with our experience, will be back soon!
The food was excellent, and there were heaters over each table outside on the sidewalk, making the experience more enjoyable. The service was a bit too quick because they want you out within 1.5 hours. So you feel rushed, which takes away from that experience. In most cases, people don't stay longer than 1.5, but when a time is set, it changes the experience. I recommend the owner not to bring up the time limit. Cheers.
Went with a party of 6. We all selected the tasting menu. The food was exceptional. Our waitress went above and beyond for us. She cleared our plates and gave us new ones after the first course. Refilled our water multiple times throughout our visit. Not sure if she had other tables but she made us feel prioritized. The restaurant easily accommodated to a nut allergy. I have nothing bad to say about Mamakas. The spanakopita and the lamb chops were the highlights, very delicious.
Love the energy in the room. The food was awesome! We ordered salad with tons of tomatoes and cheese, octopus, roast chicken, steak, eggplant with pork. The only thing that was a bit of a let down was the octopus - it was smaller than expected. Overall I definitely recommend this place. Yum!
Found this place just okay. Good octopus. Everything else was good but not amazing (for me). I think a bit overpriced for the type of decor / ambiance they have going on.
Exceptional service, our waitress was lovely and the food is fresh and tasty. Tje desserts were delicious!! Would definitely visit this restaurant again. Loved the atmosphere and just looking around and seeing everyone enjoy their meals. Thank you!!!
Best place for elevated Greek in the city! Service is fast and professional and while the dishes honour tradition theres a flair for the modern as well. Their grilled Calamari with dill, leek and onion was sublime and definitely must try
Food excellent but overpriced IMO. Noisy so hard to talk
Get tasting menu and shared with my friend. Suprised like appetizer more than main dishes. The part of the wine mainly tried white wine GAIA WILD FERMENT (2022). When I was eating the first course, there is a refreshing white wine with floral fragrance. Girls should like it 13.5%/ Red wine is TETRAMYTHOS NATUR (2023) mainly acidity and fruity aroma 12%
Went with my girlfriend for some lamb as I havent had it in several years. Had some great appetizers and the lamb was so good. Will come back later.
Amazing experience. By far one of the best Greek restaurants I ve been to in a while. Could taste the freshness and high quality ingredients and herbs being used. Will be back and highly recommend!
Our experience at Mamakas Taverna in Toronto was exceptional. The decoration is beautiful, the atmosphere warm and inviting, and the service top-notch. We enjoyed the eggplant dip, lamb chops, and octopus each dish was bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. A must-visit for anyone craving authentic and delicious Greek cuisine!
Never disappoints!
Pricey but worth every penny. A place for special occasions. Service was slow but the food is wroth it. Portions are decent.
Great spot for Greek food.
I ve been looking to eat at this place for the longest time and it was totally worth the wait. the food was fantastic and the atmosphere is super cool. Top three restaurants for Greek food in the city no question.
The server you outstanding. Your food was excellent. Food
Love the atmosphere and they are so accommodating . The food is VERY fresh and it s one of the best Greek restaurants I ve had in Canada. Their Greek wine selection is great and their olive oil is incredible. Really happy with it
Not your average Greek restaurant- wonderful experience. We walled in and got a table, apparently very unusual. Reservations are a must.
Thé experience was awful
Now becoming an institution on Ossington - a true find and a perfect spot for either lunch or dinner. The menu is packed with authentic, flavorful options that make choosing just one dish a challenge! What really sets this place apart is the rare, all-Greek wine list, which is both unique and outstanding each glass feels like a taste of Greece itself. The atmosphere is welcoming and laid-back, making it a great choice for any occasion. Whether you re craving a casual lunch or a memorable dinner, this place has you covered. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy Greek food and wine at its finest!
We had the Spanakopita for appetizers and it was very good. We had the lamb chops but it was small, overcooked, and it did not taste very good. We also had a side of potatoes and that was also not very good. The restaurant decor is very nice, bright, and well-lit.
Went this past weekend for my birthday and was very happy with our meal. We decided to do the tasting menu and it was definitely the right choice as we got to taste so many different dishes. Lots of food, we even took some to go. I would definitely recommend trying the tasting menu because it is meant to be a family-style experience.
Great food and service
I have been dining here for many years, and it has always been a favourite. The food is really good (expensive but tasty). The service last night was terrible. From the moment we sat down, we felt rushed. We were asked to place our mains before we even had ordered appetizers. After our dinner (total over $600 for 4 people) we had half a glass of wine each and we were asked (assume by the manager) to leave our table as the next patrons had arrived. The people next to us noticed how rudely we were being treated and told us to take the wine glasses out of the restaurant. When the bill came the lowest possible tip is 18% after taxes and wine and doesnt let you see the amount. What a joke. I happily calculated a more appropriate tip in front of our server. After many years of patronage and sending friends and clients there- this was our last visit.
Everything is a 10/10
Have been wanting to experience Ossingtons restaurants for some time and we so happy that we did and chose the perfect place Mamakas Taverna to start off our dining tour of the area. Mamakas was bustling with dinners and staff. The noise faded into the background and the ambiance took over as it added to the intimate vibe. Food...fresh, flavourful and perfectly plated for sharing. We had: Olives Feta with olive oil and Pita. Maroulosalata -salad Lamb chops Esparagus with pistachio cheese sauce Higher price point however worth it if your looking for that spot to have a great dinning experience with delicious Greek fare, with a group or date night We are going back and will look to dine with a group of friends.
I wanted to love it. And it was good, don t get me wrong. But apart from the pita, nothing blew me away. It was all good, with quality ingredients, but it was missing that je nes sais pas Food
We came here to celebrate our girlfriend s birthday. We came excited to try delicious Greek food. And the food was really good. HOWEVER what made our experience from a 5/5 to a 1/5 was the LACK of service. MAX was our original server who barely came to check on us and did not look friendly whatsoever. He was giving MINimum. We had to wave him down or ask other staff to call for him multiple times. We would see him hanging around the bar with his coworkers. Our mains came and they don t even clear the table they just drop it on the table with the empty plates still there. Our drinks took longer to arrive than expected. Even when we complained to the manager he didn t look like her wanted to genuinely hear our concerns. On top of that they told us an 18% gratuity was mandatory for our group!! They definitely don t deserve that amount for the experience we had. Anyway I don t want to be a negative Nancy on here but if they work on retraining their staff, on professionalism, urgency and consistency it would ve made our experience from a 1/5 to a 4/5. So unfortunate.
Food and drinks were good, the atmosphere was warm and inviting however our server (who was also the bartender) was extremely rude. I did not appreciate the shrugs and eye rolls when ordering or asking about the menu. Will not be going back
Great food and ambiance. Their fish special was quite average and almost without any particular taste. Other dishes were great though
Eggplant dip was decent. Pita not bad. Saganaki croquettes were good- needs a little bit more honey( and/or a tiny bit more seasoning). Lamb chops... delicious... but it is NOT a main. Appetizer portion. Theres 4 of them but check the picture for how tiny the chops are... Lol Im still in disbelief. Cocktails were good
One of the best greek spots Ive eaten in a long time. Pricey, but really good food and atmosphere.
One of the most delicious meals I ve had in recent memory. The whipped caviar dip is a food memory I won t soon forget.
Such a delicious meal and great ambiance in the restaurant. Service was impeccable.
Clean, delicious
Great bar and Greek cuisine.
Came in for lunch and got their prix fixe + freshly squeezed orange juice. Super big servings- couldn t finish my meal because I was so full. I enjoyed the lamb! The spinach pastry (i forgot what it was called now) wasn t really my favourite to be honest and there were a few parts of it that weren t cooked well/too dry/hard(?) to eat. Dessert was good too though- unfortunate because I could only take two bites since I was so full. Great service and nice ambiance! Would love to come back to try more items next time
Greek food at a higher level than most restaurants across the GTA. Portions could be larger for the premium price they charge. Overall quality, service and atmosphere Id rate this Taverna as a solid 4.
Great food with unique takes on classic Greek food. Fun atmosphere. Excellent service.
Makes sense why there are never any reservations. The food was spectacular, and the staff were so nice. We literally ordered so much on the menu because we were so excited to try all the food. Honestly I can t even say anything that was bad about this place and I would definitely be going back soon.
Delicious food and a vibrant atmosphere. This classic Toronto spot in the lively Ossington neighborhood is a bit on the pricey side, but you re paying for a top-quality meal.
Just an all around awesome spot. Cool vibe, great service and the food is fantastic.
Luke everyone, Im a huge fan of restaurants that continuously improve. Unfortunately, this establishment has gone far downhill since the early days. Hopefully, they find their stride again.
Food was really good. Very impressed.
Best Greek restaurant in Toronto. Delicious dips and great chicken Recently went to an event at Trapezi private dining room. Amazing Vegetarian options: Lots of options for vegetarians
Good foods, over priced There was no service either Food
BRANDON IS BACK B*TCHES!!!!! Thank the Lord! A true angel on ossington - authentic, sweet, angelic and so committed to bringing the best service! Of course the food is exceptional, but the service takes it to the next level. The wines, the food, the device and food/bevy knowledge all 10/10!!
The food at Mamaka s is very good as it should be for the price. Fresh, well executed Greek classics. Unfortunately, despite a bill in the $300 range for two people, we were informed at 8:10 (after arriving at 6:30) that a group is waiting for our table. We were in the middle of a conversation with plenty of food remaining and wine in my glass. At 8:20, a staff began hurriedly clearing the plates without a word despite not being finished my wine. I am not sure why they think that it is acceptable to limit people to 2 hours when they charge those prices. People come for an experience, not to eat and run.
Delicious!
The food is amazing and went for the lunch special and got a full course meal for $55 which was nice as Mamakas is completely overpriced! However, the service is not great. After the servers had served us dessert, we got our bill which was incorrect and needed to be fixed. We were then told right after that we need to leave our table right away as we were in the middle of eating due to being over the time limit, even though we had just been served our dessert 5 minutes ago. Overall great food, but over priced and terrible service!
An amazing experience as always. This is easily our favourite restaurant in the city. This time we discovered the prix fix menu and hit the spot quite well.
The food was delicious, great service and a nice ambience. Just a bit on the expensive side, so prepare your wallet . Musaka and watermelon salad, top notch
The dishes are excellent, we enjoyed ourselves! The octopus plate could be a little more garnished. We were left a little unsatisfied. We went there at the beginning of September and it was very cool in the restaurant, the air conditioning was on full blast, a little too much for my taste as a French girl, who is not used to having air conditioning everywhere and so cool. I ate with 2 jackets on my back, that didnt make us want to extend the meal with a dessert or a drink. That doesnt take anything away from the service which is very good, the quality of the dishes and the fact that the decor of the place is very pretty.
My husband and I had a wonderful anniversary dinner on their patio. The food was delicious. Service was great and attentive. The food came up with minimal wait. It was a lovely vibe for a fall Friday night. I highly recommend this place and make sure to make a reservation to avoid waiting.
This was the best meal we ve had in years / maybe ever. We did the tasting menu and enjoyed every bite. Our only complaint is that we couldn t eat it all. Dietary restrictions: I m gluten sensitive and the waitress was knowledgeable about what dishes were safe.
Amazing service and amazing food. This place exceeded all expectations. Truly the best Lamb chops in the city!!
The chicken and the heirloom tomato salad are two of the best dishes Ive ever had. End of review.
A friend who lives in the city recommended visiting this place. Food is good but ridiculously overpriced. They provided one piece of pita per dip and charged two additional pieces for our party of 4. Petty pricing practices when you re already charging a premium. We were sat on the patio which feels like you re set up on the street. Plenty of comparable options in the city that offer better value. Definitely felt ripped off
Calamari tasted great but the portion was really small.
Been staring at this restaurant for years from the line at bang bang and been wanting to go. Finally did and had the chef s tasting menu and wine pairing. The food was . Amazing and plentiful. We couldn t finish everything they brought and left feeling stuffed. Wish I d saved some room for dessert. We saw the watermelon salad being served and added it - highly recommended. The wine pairing was good but I wish there were more wines and smaller servings. Just to get a bit more than two wines. Left happy and would recommend it to friends.
I left my expensive Prada purse here after a delicious mea and they were kind enough to track me down and return it. Not only is the food great, but the people are so amazing and HONEST!! 5 I will definitely be back! Thank you guys!
Unbelievably fresh ingredients, beautiful presentation, stunning decor and excellent atmosphere. A tad pricey, but would be an ideal place for a special occasion.
Fantastic every time. The closest I ve found to the food in Greece. The eggplant dip is so creamy and smoky. The watermelon salad was spectacular. Octopus perfectly cooked.
Such a cute restaurant. Vibe is good, service is great and food is delicious. However I did order something which ended up being like a burger meet with cheese and mushroom- wouldn t get that again. Great for a girls night out sharing food and having drinks.
Great food
Wonderful Greek restaurant. Very tasty food, excellent and pleasant service. Would definitely go again. Parking can be tough during busy times, even though there s street parking a small Green P lot nearby. 90 minute table time (didn t seem to be strictly enforced).
The food and service are of a very high quality here. It s a bit pricy but it s worth it. I d give them a 5 star but we ordered 2 dips and they only brought 2 pitas. The dips should come with more bread (like 2 pitas per dip ordered or the waiter should ask how many you want)
Great ambience, attentive staff. Music volume, though? Deafening.
The food is great and fresh, lovely atmosphere as well
I recently visited Mamakas Taverna and had a mixed experience. Let s start with the food, which was definitely the highlight of the evening. I ordered the lamb chops, grilled octopus, and cheese, and each dish had its own memorable qualities. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection, with a tender, juicy interior and a well-seasoned, slightly charred exterior that added a delightful smokiness to each bite. The balance of herbs and spices brought out the natural flavors of the lamb, making it a standout dish that I would definitely recommend. The grilled octopus was another star on the table. It was beautifully tender, with a perfect char that added a nice, slightly crisp texture to the outside. The octopus was paired with a light, citrusy sauce that complemented its delicate flavor without overpowering it. It s one of those dishes that showcases the chef s skill in preparing seafood, and it left a lasting impression. The saganaki, although not your traditional one, but was also enjoyable. The cheese was served sizzling hot, with a golden-brown crust that gave way to a gooey, rich interior. It was both indulgent and comforting, with just the right amount of saltiness to keep you reaching for more. While the food was undeniably excellent, the service at Mamakas Taverna was less impressive. The staff, though friendly, seemed disorganized, leading to delays and a few minor errors with our orders. This lack of attentiveness detracted from what could have been a more seamless dining experience. In terms of value, I found the prices to be on the higher side, especially considering the portion sizes. While the quality of the food is undeniable, the overall experience didn t fully justify the cost, leaving me with mixed feelings about the value for money. In conclusion, Mamakas Taverna delivers on flavor, especially with dishes like the lamb chops, grilled octopus, and cheese. However, the service and value for money didn t quite meet my expectations. I d consider returning for the food, but it wouldn t be my top choice in the city.
I ve been here many times and I can t recommend it enough. I love the food, the moussaka is probably something that not many would order but if you read my review, you should definitely try it. You ll be pleasantly surprised by their version, deep fried breaded eggplant on the bottom and buttery béchamel on top. Dietary restrictions: They always accommodate my dietary requirements.
This is an embarrassment to Toronto food scene. Everything is absolutely horrible. Thanos Trippi- have you tried your food???
Food was alright. Lamb shakshuka was good but the portion of the lamb was so little. Definitely overpriced. Nice service and nice patio on the side.
The food was honestly amazing but on the day I visited Mamakas they were sold out of the lamb neck, which was my first choice, they couldn t make the souvlaki for some reason, which was my second choice, and when I finally picked the chicken, which was available, they had an issue with the fryer and couldn t make the potatoes which I wanted to have as a side. I did thoroughly enjoy the food that I had, and the bartender was very apologetic about the problems that night, but overall I was disappointed that pretty much half the mains were unavailable on the night I visited.
My favourite restaurant in the city, and I don t even like Greek food but everything is amazing here. I come for anniversary s to dinners with the girls, everything on the menu is amazing! If you re visiting from out of town you need to try Mamakas
By far my top five worldwide restaurants. It is impeccable. From the service of a dedicated team, to the attention to detail of every dish. The Pitas are hand made, the tomatoes have the farm taste, the olive oil is like I had in Greece. Our waiter Nicholas was our waiter, he was awesome. There are too many things to list but hands down the best Mediterranean anywhere
Love this place! Had a reservation for 2, was running late and they held it for us for 20 minutes. Food is always amazing here. We sat at the bar and the bartender was super friendly! Recommend to friends and family
Great Mediterranean cuisine and, great atmosphere. Perfect for a date or special nights for your loved ones.
had a great time here. the food was amazing, but was was the best was the service. the attention to detail really made this restaurant stand out. we sat at the bar and the bartenders were so lovely. 10/10 experience, we will be back!!
Food poisoned after having brunch there. Grilled calamari was good. Shakshouka was way too sour. Unimpressed. Food
Price to quality ratio is a bit off in my opinion. For $68 the lamb chops did not hold up. Highlight was the dips and fresh pita bread.
The food was very good but the waiter was very rude and had a very spoiled manner.
I came to Mamakas to celebrate my sister s birthday and had an amazing experience. Everything we ordered was delicious (Kopanisti dip, saganaki croquettas, potatoes, lamb chops, shrimp saganaki) and our server Kayla was lovely. She was super helpful at picking an amazing wine and great at recommending menu items. The baklava cheesecake is to die forrr (the croquettas are also a must try). My Greek family approved of the food which is a huge win :). Will definitely be coming back!
I was skeptical as I m not a Greek food lover . Then I ate here! The squid was cooked to perfection. Every dish we had I couldn t stop enjoying it. Very flavourful and delicious. Food : 5/5
For a restaurant this price, you d expect a better service and a more generous portion of food. Just look at the size of the fork compared to the $38 octopus. That one souvlaki was $44. The meat was quite dry as well. The server was unenthusiastic to say the least. The whole time her expression was stiff and no smile, acting like she wanted us to leave as quickly as possible. She didn t even acknowledge us when she cleaned the table and took away the plates. Of course, 18% tips minimum at the checkout. Her attitude definitely didn t deserve that much on top of an already overwhelming bill. Please go to another restaurant if you don t want your night to be ruined. They would treat you horribly.
The exterior and interior were beautiful, but inside it was a bit crowed. The entrance was quite busy and somewhat disorganized making the check-in process chaotic. The food was subpar; everything was salty except for the sea bass. We tried the eggplant dip, spanakopita, sea bass, oktapodi, and asparagus. While the food was good, it was nothing outstanding. Additionally, we ordered a glass of red wine that tasted very off, but our server took care of that for us. Might try their other sister restaurants.
Tried again.... Boring food, nothing notable - my previous review holds: Inflexible with some minor requests and very average flavours. Poor value.
Amazing food, everything we ordered was delicious and the grilled octopus was perfect.
Great good and great service. The family style meal was amazing and super generous portions. Would definitely return!
Food:5 atmosphere:4 service:3 The lamb neck was really good. The meat came very soft with crispy outside. My favorite at this visit. The Spinach and Chickpeas sides was also good with lemon. Bifteki was okay, tasted a bit heavy and complicated. Also tried their ouzo, the first time, but went well with lamb. They have a okay patio. Service was disappointing unfortunately. The girl/lady who served us was a bit impolite and impatient.
Okay Greek food, I will still peferr danforth ( the Greek town)
We had made a reservation as we were celebrating a birthday and last minute we get a cancellation as it was raining so they accommodated us around the bar. I was excited to try the appetizers as I am so familiar with their yummy taste but what a disappointment when the taramaslata came. In general I found their food to be over the top in the use of salt in most dishes. I could not believe the prices on certain main courses and their portion sizes. The chicken was way too salty for me. At this point I was a little put off by the food but it was compensated by the amazing service we got from the bar man who took our orders. The ambiance would have been nice if not for the over crowding and loudness in the restaurant: Green P parking is very close by so if you lucky to find a spot. Def did not seem kid friendly on a Friday night! Not that many vegetarian options apart from the salad and dips!
2024: back again at one of my favorite greek restaurant. This time I tried the Kopanisti (very rich), taramosalata (my least favorite), the Saganaki Krokettas (delish), the Spanakopita (surprisingly, it didn t taste good as before. There was barely any honey), the lavraki and the asparagus (sooo delicious, I highlight recommend this side with the sea bass). Service wasn t this best this time though. 2022: I wanted to try this place for soo long and it didnt disappoint. A very pleasant experience for a friday night. All in all, I would recommend the eggplant dip with the pita bread, the spanakopita (my fav), the grilled sea bass and the baklava cheesecake (better be shared between more than 2 people). The potatoes also looked good and apparently, the rib, the octopus and the shrimps are a must, but I personally didnt try them. And the service was on point. Thank you!!
Absolutely incredible authentic Greek cuisine! This is hands down the best Greek food Ive ever had. The service was exceptionally fast and friendly, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Everything was absolutely lovely !
Excellent from all aspects. The food, the service, and the vibe are top-notch. A special thank you to AVONA for her plaisant attitude and her attention to our requests. Food
The food was excellent, prepared with very high quality ingredients. Everything had a ton of flavour! The service was great as well, our server was very nice and friendly! Now summer is coming I am hoping frozen greek yogurt will be on the menu soon, but even without it I definitely recommend!
Favorite place from our Toronto weekend getaway. We had the tasting menu, and everything was amazing. Definitely the highlights were the dips and the lamb. We also ordered a Spanakopita, and it is also a must try. Our server was super nice, and the ambiance is perfect!
Food was above average. Meatballs very salty, chicken quite dry, octopus was tough. Lamb was tender and whole sea bass was fresh and tasty. Best part was the spinach with chickpeas and the Greek salad. However what made the experience extremely disappointing was the poor service. We wanted to try the tasting menu but one of the us is vegetarian, so we asked to have tasting menu for 5 of us, and a la carte for him since 90% of the tasting menu is meat. After we asked for this request, we were told the kitchen can only cook tasting menu for the entire table. The server was unable to articulate why this is the case except it is too difficult for the kitchen. However, she was happy to suggest to order the exact same items a la carte if we wanted it, even though it much better much more expensive and not in the proper portions. After all this, our friend elected to just leave and get food elsewhere. He stayed a few minutes to just chat while we were waiting. Apparently the restaurant was worried he would not leave, and moved us to a spot with with only 5 seats, telling us they needed our current seating for another reservation. We ate the entire rest of the meal and left at closing time and there was no other customer who took those seating or the other free seating in the restaurant. You can get better Greek food on Danforth and dont have to suffer from this type of treatment. Would not recommend.
Its my spot. As long as you dont take my table, Im happy to share it with you lol.
Great food, generous portions, good service, nice ambience and music.
Food overall is good, a little bit salty to our liking. Moussaka is a must-try. Wont recommend the raw beef salad. Ambience is great. We were quite lucky to walk-in on a Saturday night
FOOD: Grilled Calamari: surprisingly good. Juicy, crunchy and good seasoning flavor. The calamari is big and fresh. Lamb Shashouka: I can barely find lamb in it but overall it taste good. Kopanisti Dip: Its not spicy like I thought, portion is really big and I got full after this. Bread is fresh and hot. SERVICE: theyre too busy but they did a great job. Food came out fairly quick. VIBE: bright and chill, the place is very busy at lunch time.
Absolutely incredible dining experience. Staff are very helpful and attentive - Alannah was a fantastic server. The ambience makes you feel like you re on vacay in Greece. :) Food is absolutely dynamite - try the eggplant dip.
Incredible food
Food is great I love the whole fish grilled to perfect the dips we had were okay the pita bread goes but i little thick for my liking the salad was fresh and appetizing if must try, give it a try or pass Id say give it a try
Menu is quite basic however everything I tried were made very well. You will notice they are using good quality indigrients and this will pay off by the taste. It is a bit spicy on the bill side however food was great. The wine options could be a bit better, that is the only advice I can think off.
Had such a wonderful dinner while visiting Toronto. The weather was perfect for our time on their patio. Our server was super knowledgeable and helpful with the menu, especially when it came to navigating my dairy allergy. The taramossalata (sp??) dip was a+ but wished for more of the amazing fresh pita. Also had the tartare, beets, octopus, and a salad. Oh and the chicken. Incredible chicken - actually everything was delicious. Would definitely return. Kid-friendliness: High chairs available
Everything had was delicious, the pitas that came with the dip were really tasty. Also got the beet salad, the grilled octopus, and half chicken. Would highly recommend to come! Wish I could ve ordered more to eat but was too full.
One of my Favourites - for good reason! Check it out!
We were here 2 times. Our first visit was amazing. But not the second one. Our server she was pretty rude to us all the time since when we got there. I even waited to order for at least 10 mins. She did not pay attention at all. And then she was supposed to bring us dessert menus. Instead of doing that she brought us her manager and the bill. They kept saying that the walk in times are an hour and half. Even if you know that info were you supposed to dropped off the dessert menus before times is up. And also the manager is pretty rude and he has zero knowledge how to run a restaurant or deal with a customer nicely. The restaurant business is all about dealing w customers and being make sure the customers are happy when they are leaving. Also it is an amazing restaurant have to mention this. But without customer service you are nothing guys Horrible experience We were at the last table at the patio fyi
We went there with high hopes and got disappointed. Nothing was bad but was far from the hype and also authentic greek food. The ambiance was super cool (Ossignton vibe) but price tag was not justified. $44 for Moussaka and $48 for the neck (March 2024) was unbelievable, look at the pictures how bland the plate was. Taste wise not much better. We dined in more than half of restaurants around Ossignton and we definitely feel ripped off with the medicore pricey food at Mamaks.
Took out of town guest, loved it !
Absolutely worth all the hype this restaurant gets! I just came here for a little pre-birthday dinner and everything was PHENOMENAL! It s obviously on the pricier side so this is for sure a special occasion spot. But the vibes, the service, the food, all a 10/10! My faves were the Taramosalata dip, the Spanikopita, and the Lamb Chops! Everything was so flavourful and fresh. Definitely will be back for more!
Easy Easy 10/10 not cheap but worth ever pennie.
A beautiful restaurant, excellent service. A good open kitchen where you can see the chefs cooking. We tried several dishes and everything was delicious. The waiter also gave us good advice on dishes and wines. I will go back!
A perfect spot for a special dinner date! I thought the atmosphere and venue was lovely. The service was exceptional. The tasting menu was phenomenal.
Fantastic food and lovely service. I liked everything I had.
Excellent Greek restaurant that reminds me of my travel. The meal started with house dips and meatball. The bread was so light and goes extremely well with the anchovies yogurt dip. The lamb chop was cooked very well, and the sea bass is fresh and grilled perfectly. Definitely end the meals with some yogurt desert! I recall mythos is a terrible beer in Greece, but I somehow liked it fine here in Toronto
Food was absolutely superb! Drinks were phenomenal. Service from everyone was delightful. We started our night at their sister restaurant Koukla and ended our night here. The bathrooms are super tight but nothing to reduce stars for. I have family with accessibility concerns so something to consider if this is important to you.
Not great for vegans, ok for vegetarians. I went for brunch and didn t find too many things I was wowed by.
Excellent food. Fun atmosphere. Indifferent to careless service. We felt we were imposing. We wont go back. If the food is great and the service is not, it doesnt matter.
Very cute and cozy place. Food is delicious and healthy portions as well, highly recommended
Sassy service. Excellent meatballs. Loud music. Pricey. Good quality.
Delicious Greek food, some of the very best I ve ever had
Amazing service and quality food. Will be back!
Understandably so, Mamakas Taverna lives up-to the hype and expectations. Superb food and service, great atmosphere. Well articulated menu that requires assistance as they all are good options - highly recommend to go with the authentic dishes (Kopanisti, Spanakopita, Moussaka!)
Food was absolutely delicious! Atmosphere was very nice, service too. I highly recommend. Food : 5/5
Next-level food and service. Great Ambience and some of the best grilled calamari I have ever had.
Placed us right by the kitchen near the entrance. Interesting seating and really hot and uncomfortable. Great food though.
Consistently amazing every single time!
Very tasty and very good service!
Great Greek with an amazing atmosphere
My husband is Greek and we visit Greece 1-2 times per year, so believe me when I say this is AUTHENTIC GREEK FOOD. Our dining experience was nothing short of spectacular. It s rare to find a place where every single dish is a home run but Mamakas managed just that. Standout dishes during our visit included the Horiatiki salad, spanakopita, short rib beef, and potato fries. My husband had a their special that day, a Wagyu beef skewer, that was out of this world good. We could hear and see everyone around us also thoroughly enjoying their meals. Service was 100% and the vibe was on point! This place has it down to a science.
The food is really good, but the service needs some work. The host seated us next to the window and I asked to be moved as it was a little chilly and asked for the seats by the left wall. There were 3 tables of 2 seats and then the last table was for 4 people. We got seated in the middle table between two empty two seater seats. The host tells us we only have 1 hour to eat if we want to sit here and I said that s fine. When other guests came who sat beside us, I asked them if they were told the same thing and they said no. Our server was a tall man, probably the tallest there. He took our order and then never came back. We tried to call him a few times, but no luck so we had to ask another server.
Food: excellent. Lamb and fish very good quality and tasty. This restaurant not only requires quality ingredients, taste, but the presentation is also key. Service: overall great, just the host keeps saying you only have 1.5 hours, which is a turn off, and sad because we actually get more than that, and if she didnt mention it, it would have been a pressure-less experience. I know the owner will probably say its her job and she just doesnt want to over promise due to other bookings, but for the several times, there are more than enough seats. Atmosphere: cozy. Toilet is clean. Overall, an excellent Greek restaurant in town. I am a picky eater (tasted food around the world and passionate about cooking), and I enjoy this place a lot.
This was one of the best meals Ive had in a while! The entrees really impressed me. We ordered moussaka, which turned out to be a lasagna type of dish and of course it is good. They served a hearty portion size of it as well. We also got stifado, which came with braised short ribs, parsnip puree and some pearl onion. Everything on the plate were delicious including the side. The dessert we ordered was baklava cheese cake. It had everything I liked, crunchy pistachios, pastry, cheese cake and greek yogurt. To top it all off, it looked stunning as well. Overall, great place to check out and dont sleep on it.
As being first time here, we really enjoyed our dining. We ordered the fix menu which contains 3 starters and 3 mains for two persons. You need to choose one meze (we picked melizanosalata). Then classic feta cheese salad and meatballs (one for each person) follow it. As main courses, 2 pieces of lamb chops, grilled octopus, sautéed carrots and fries come. Octopus and veggies were tasty, but the lamb chops were fatty which I don t like, but some people like it though.. They have a nice selection of vines from Greece and ouzo choices. The fix menu price is $75 per person. It seems little bit pricey, but you taste the main dishes with this menu. Maybe a small dessert could be good at the end of the menu. As cons, the place has a room issue and so packed. Plus, a reservation is recommended since you might be limited for 1.5 hours to dine in.
the vibe is great at this restaurant, love the Greek music and cozy ritz. Highlights were the okra, lamb neck, roasted eggplant dip. Spanakopita was mid, it was quite dense and oily although that s probably just the nature of the dish.
Exceptional food and service! Probably one of the best Greek restaurants we ve been to. Vibe was great, food was amazing, and the service was impeccable We had the Keftedes, Tatziki, Pita, Spanakopita, Octopus, Moussaka, Braised Rib, Halva Mousse, and Baklava Cheesecake. Every bite just exploded with such pure flavours. The octopus was excellent and a sure must try. Also the rib! That puréed parsnip was divine. Make sure to try that cheesecake - it was a beautiful way to end the meal. Shoutout to our server who was just so warm and hospitable. Wonderful attention to detail as well! He noticed that we gave our friend some gifts so he put some candles on our desserts to celebrate her (belated) birthday. Such a great atmosphere too! Definitely want to come back for the lamb chops. We were just too full already!
Hands down the best greek in Toronto, I tend to say best restaurant, amazing service, great environment and the food is amazing, the lamb tartare is my favourite dish ever.
One of the best Greek restaurants in the west end Toronto. The service is excellent and the place is always buzzing with excitement. Unique menu with some items I have never seen elsewhere. Like the lamb neck. Yup. A first for me but very tasty. The food has never disappointed and the wine selection is very good. Highly recommended for any date night or social outing.
Been on a Sunday for brunch was really good food, service and atmosphere. Bit pricey but welcome to Toronto.
Was very excited to go here but left quite disappointed and not very happy. The server was pretty good however I bit into a giant bone in our Cod. The server let the kitchen know and told us she s sorry but it happens however what bothered us was they didn t offer a replacement of the dish and we did end up eating it although we have to scour to make sure they were no more bones which took away from our experience. The dish wasn t taken off from the bill which would have been fine if the chef or manager apologized or offered to replace the dish at least. Anyway, the experience just threw me off a little and expected more from the establishment since heard so many good reviews.
Some of the BEST food I ve had in Toronto! The plates are all shareable and everything was delicious
Group of 4 just visit it again for lunch and the food we all great! Their Service was superb because they accommodate a friend with a newborn and made space for us. Just found out everything is kosher/Halal except the chicken! It perfect for my partners family and friends. Food were delicious as always, the lamb chops is a must. Only the black cod was a bit disappointing, but portion was great. We were so
Amazing, authentic Greek food. The only Greek restaurant in Toronto that deserves the epithet Greek. Matches the quality and flavours of classic Greek cuisine at home, while also introducing a gastronomic touch: true Greek culinary art. Happy to support the Greek economy and would recommend to anyone hands down.
Mamakas is a well known Greek restaurant in Toronto. It is always jam packed all the time and make sure reservation is made ahead of time. We ordered Spanakopita for appetizer, then Rack of lamb and whole fish for main courses and finish up with baklava cheesecake. Be careful of how much you ordered because most courses come with yogurt. The lamb chop is a bit overcooked as I like medium. The fish is 1.5lbs and mentioned that it is wild caught. Baklava cheesecake is very good, but some people might feel a bit too heavy. Overall it is a great restaurant and highly recommended to anyone who likes to try out Greek food.
Our server Maggie was outstanding! She went over all the dishes in super detail and the ones she recommended was out of this world! Thank you for such a wonderful experience, we will be coming back for sure. Parking: Green P lot is just two blocks south of the restaurant. But its a tiny lot.
Greek food is like Mediterranean food. You can feel just a little like Greek style. I recommend the Sea food menu. Parking: You can find public paid parking lots within 5 min walking distance.
Amazing food. Can be slightly loud. Counter dining. Get seafood whenever you can! The keftedes - beef meatballs with pine nuts. Nicely cooked, definitely smell the aroma. Horiatiki salad - nice olive oil. More veggies please. Bakaliaros - Black Cod - loved it. The sauce was something else. Yogurt dessert - thick Greek yogurt. Honey was tasty.
We ate very well A little expensive but considering the quality of the cuisine its completely understandable Small absence and/or lack of attention from the service staff, the room was left without a server for a while but we had a good time and had a good meal.
It was my first time visiting fine dining Greek restaurant I was hearing good reviews about this place, and the food, service, atmosphere were all amazing. I was glad that I got seats because it was packed since around 5pm. I got their special, a mushroom filled with minced lambs, as an appetizer. It was honestly the best dish among all the dishes I ve got. For the main, I got Moussaka. It had perfect balance of everything, and the potion was more than enough for two people which was great!!! I m coming back for more Also, the cheese cake is must-try !!!!!
Amazing experience, delicious food and well executed cocktails. Thanks
Food and service were good. Happy overall.
No need to talk about it If you enjoy Greek / Mediterranean cuisine Just go It s pointless for me to give you my opinion Your experience will speak for itself Kali Orexi
I came here last month for my friends birthday. It was such a good place, great service and great food :) love the squash salad. Must try lamb dish and salad Definitely come back!!
Great atmosphere, quick service, good selection of Greek specialised wines and beers, food was fresh and delicious. I would love to go back to taste more traditional Greek dishes.
Everything was perfect!! I loveeeee the Café Portokali. the best kind of espresso martini.
I generally like Greek or Mediterranean food. I enjoy Mamaka s dinner menu. Great salads, very good protein options. How ever I did not really enjoy their brunch menu. The frittata was dry and I felt that the cheese was overpowering the dish, now that s my personal opinion, some may love it some may not. Service was great every time I dined here, amazing staff and well maintained dining room.
Mamakas had been on my list for a long time and we left with mixed feelings. The starters were amazing- Id go back for the pita and dips any day. The mains however felt uninspired and overly expensive while lacking substance. I had the chicken and my partner had the lamb. It was fine, I could probably make this myself - and maybe thats the point - but I found it hard to justify the price point of 40+ for a chicken in broth given it was only an average meal. Forget parking around here - its a nightmare!
Delicious Greek restaurant, the food here is always fantastic and the staff are friendly and attentive!
All good! Apps, mains, sides all creative takes on classic greek food.. Great ambience. Love the tiny sinks in the washrooms.
The best Greek restaurant in Toronto. We love the atmosphere, food, and drinks.
Delicious, worthy, affordable and generous quantities. That is all that summarizes this tasty greek restaurant They offer fixed menu, which is a very good option to try different plates and get stuffed with good food. Menu for dinner is more diverse and they manage to deliver good greek quality food. Good option for a casual lunch or dinner in Ossington area.
Worst experience of my life and I have travelled to many places as a former flight attendant. They are not welcoming to tourist or people that demonstrate happiness. I was visiting from Montreal and my friend from New York. If you go there make sure you are not happy because you will be judged and treated poorly. I do not recommend this resto.
The food was great. They messed up and added extra items to our bill and when we brought it up they failed to fully correct it the first time and we had to send it back another 2x. Ended what was otherwise a great meal on a bit of a sour note.
Best Greek restaurant in the city. Been here twice now, and both times have been amazing! Their dips, keftedes(beef meatballs), horiatiki(village salad), shrimp saganaki special, and lamb were all hits! And for dessert the baklava cheesecake is a must! Being Greek myself, and loving the Greek cuisine more than any other, Mamakas is the place to go!
Amazing spot!
Great fresh food and atmosphere. Service was great. Nice selection of Greek wines.
Delicious and hearty Greek food served in a warm setting. I particularly enjoyed the doughy and cheesy apps but their mains are also very tasty.
I ve been a recurring customer at Mamakas for a while because I never leave disappointed. I enjoy their selection of Greek wines and hospitable wait staff. All the dishes slap but I the Keftedes are a must when visiting - trust me! The lamb chops also. Cozy place in the winter and very enjoyable sitting outside in the summer time to enjoy a fantastic meal while people watching in Ossington. A must in Toronto.
Every dish was delicious, flavourful, service was great, timing of each course was perfect. Lamb chops 10/10. Overall excellent dining experience.
Delicious food, great wine, excellent service. I will definitely go back and would highly recommend!
I am a returning client at this restaurant . Never fails to impress me , the vibe and obviously the food . Highly recommend. Food
Came here to celebrate a birthday dinner, and it did not disappoint! They were rated top restaurant by open table for 2 years (2017/8/9) for a reason. Great quality Greek food with an open kitchen and wonderful staff. The potatoes and baklava cheesecake are a must try! As most places on ossington, parking can be a little tricky. Dietary restrictions: Server inquires of any allergies before placing your order. Parking: Expect to search for parking and walk 5 to 10 mins from your parking on busy days Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible
Great dinner spot, lovely environment and good food.
