I have been a long time customer of Mother India and I can say this is without a doubt the best food in toronto period. I moved away from the city some years ago but I still make a point of eating here every single time I come even remotely close to the GTA. The staff are incredibly kind and lovely, and the food is always fresh and delicious. I highly recommend the chana roti!!!

Best indian food in the hood - especially as someone with a severe nut allergy! This is the only place that I can trust since they're totally nut-free. For once, I can order korma 😍 Don't skip the samosas or the gulab jamoon either

I have been here couple of times and I found the food to be tasty. I have tried their samosa chaat, samosas with chutney and potato fries chaat which were really good. They have halal options as well. The service was very friendly from the girl who handled my order. If you are looking for some indian snacks then give them a try.

Take out butter chicken with roti and samosas. The samosas were incredibly fresh and tasty. I ordered the roti separately to enjoy the sauce and the juicy pieces of chicken and potatoes. It's quite a meal, and two people can enjoy this easily. You might wish to order another roti or rice.

Very good Indian food. I ordered medium spicy and it wasn't too spicy so if you do like the spice I suggest going higher then what your normal choice would be. Ordered it as delivery from UberEats (had a discount code). Overall great!

Absolutely the worst curry or wanna be curry Ive had in my life. My Indian grandmother would turn over in her grave if she tasted it. Everything has a disgusting tomato paste to it. Even the butter chicken....common now thats just damn wrong The wateriest curry Ive ever had. Ive had broth heartier than this curry. Gross lamb curry. The shrimp curry had all of 8 shrimp and watery curry with two little pieces of potatoes. So so so disappointed.

Our delivery experience from Mother India in Toronto was a flavorful journey through Indian cuisine. The butter chicken and lamb tikka were highlights, packed with rich, authentic taste. The portions were generous, and the careful packaging ensured the dishes arrived in excellent condition, maintaining their delicious flavours. While the main dishes were a triumph, the garlic naan fell short of expectations, lacking the desired garlic intensity and tasting somewhat bland. On a positive note, the side rice portion was large. The overall delivery service was efficient and timely. Despite the minor setback with the naan, we had a delightful Indian dining experience in the comfort of our home.

January 23, 2024

Ordered Butter Chicken and Lamb Korma and was bland and tasteless. Both had the same pale and unappealing sauce and no spice despite requested. The roti was also not good at all. Avoid

January 23, 2024

Ordered from uber eats and my butter chicken was half potatoes, obviously to pad the dish and use a less expensive ingredient. Butter chicken does not contain potatoes, nor was that listed on the menu. AVOID!

I have been coming here over 5 years and it remains the greatest Indian establishment I ve been to in Canada. The staff are professional, kind and knowledgeable. The menu is large including both vegetarian and non vegetarian options. Perfect for a cute date or just a simple takeout order. Mother India is a shining beacon or hope in Parkdale and I am forever grateful to the fine people who work here both in the kitchen and front of house, they will take care of each and everything you need. There is no compromising when it comes to Roti, Mother India is the premier option hands down no exceptions. Vegetarian options: Indian food is usually vegetarian based on cultural reasons that I am not entirely familiar with.

December 23, 2023

Ordered from here last night on UberEats as UberEats mentioned this was a top spot in the region - the only reason I ordered. Honestly, never ordered worst food in my life. The blandest Indian food I ve ever had. We ordered a Butter Chicken, Chicken Korma, Pakras, and Garlic Roti. The butter chicken and chicken korma were the same colour and tasted the exact same. The taste wasn t butter chicken or korma. Have legit no clue what type of curry we got, but bland. Instead of serving with a side of rice, they serve it on rice (aka to skimp). The garlic roti was just a plain roti that was ice cold. So they just up charged us. The pakoras were mostly flour. Hence they made them cheaply and they were DRY. They were also ice cold so we had to heat them up. Pakras are supposed to be whole vegetables not whatever that was. Please go somewhere else. Legit anywhere else.

Ordered Roti, Malai Kofta, Paneer Tikka Masala for delivery and was extremely disappointed with the food. Food lacked any flavour at all, paneer tikka was more potato than paneer, malai kofta was just boiled potato mixed in bland curry base.

They have a great Butter Chicken Roti. Its $11.95 plus tax (at the time of my initial review) and it is quite big. I wish it was a bit cheaper but the sauce they use is rich and yummy. Edit December 2023: I really cant justify the cost of their food anymore. The taste is good, but the BCR is $17+tax now. I know everything has gone way up in price, but I already found it to be too costly a few years ago. At best it will be a one or two times a year treat now, rather than something I used to get weekly.

★★★
December 23, 2022

I think something has changed with this place. It used to be the exact same Rotis as Gandhi and when Gandhi closed, we would come here for same taste. This time, the filling is very very different. The spice level is all mild. Before, medium was actually very hot. Now Spicy and mild both have the same, mild heat. The butter chicken flavor is definitely very very different from before. If you are new to Indian food, this is a good place for you. If you are expecting the Gandhi in your face flavours and heat, you wont find it.

December 23, 2022

Avoid if you know and developed a taste for real Indian food. I ordered these dishes ,paneer, chicken , roti plain and garlic and pulav. I am not exaggerating it was a rip off version of Indian food. Not a single dish tasted good. The pakoda was like a dough flattened and fried, no flavor or anything to say its a pakoda. The paneer was full of cheap red color , the look of the dish itself made me off. The taste was aweful, no seasoning , I do not know what was it. The chicken curry had potatoes , that is okay ,however there was no flavor. It tasted so bland , never knew a chicken curry can be made this way and I would not want to know. The biggest turn off was Roti. It was thin, large and texture like a roomali roti made with refined flour. Its nowhere like a standard roti what we call in India specially in North part of India. Interestingly there was a garlic roti too, which I could not make out which one is the garlic roti since all looked the same. We happened to eat a few bites ,could not force us more. Feeling bad for throwing this much food but there is no choice. My observation says this is not an Indian restaurant except for the name ,the kind of recipe they have is something else but Indian. If you have never tried Indian food then also you should avoid this restaurant as you would make a sense about the Indian food which is not correct. I travel alot and I have seen verities of Indian food across the continents and I expect some sort of difference in the making of the food depending upon the resources available in the area. Toronto -Canada has all the resources to make a decent Indian dish if not authentic , so I can not give any advantage to this restaurant. I bIg No for me.

After craving home made Biriani for so long, I googled the best Biriani in downtown & I saw this place. Order took 1 hour to arrive. Or Al packaging but can be better. The rice was not pishori rice or basmati rice, it was short rice. It was half cooked, when eating was sticking to my teeth! I ordered chicken Biriani with extra potato ( extra pay) & Raita. The chicken was cut in tiny cubes & scantly. The potato was in small cubes too. The quantity was alright for a single pax, only ate a quarter of it & stopped. The Raita ( paid at extra $4)was even more disappointing, it is just plain running yogurt with no toppings inside at all. Money & time wasted & won t be ordering again from here. I don t care about quantity but quality, it was just a lot of blab, no Biriani flavour, no aroma, no taste it was just like eating plain brown uncooked sticky rice. Had to wash it down with pop after to take away the taste. Spent $27 total for the order.

2022 update: returned recently and was disappointed. The butter chicken was terribly bland, and the lamb curry was tough. 2020 (ish): 4 star/ I had been here before and quite liked it, but after eating there again a few times the standard seems to have gone down a bit. We prefer Glory of India down the street for their larger portions and less fatty meat.

Not exaggerating. I dont think I have tasted worse vindaloo. I ordered mild vindaloo (because I know its usually a spicy hot dish) but I am unimpressed with how flavorless I found it. The container wasnt even close to full like from other places. Eg. North if Bombay ; and I found the sauce thin. To me , it tasted as if they added water to fill up the dish. Not saying thats what they did but If they didnt then I dont know how it is lacking flavour. Mild does not mean flavorless. I will never order from here again. Epic fail.

December 23, 2021

Absolutely garbage food. Save your money and order anywhere else - the saag is watery, the eggplant sabzhi is also watery. And the butter chicken has potatoes mixed in... the food is also absolutely flavorless. Even when ordering extra spicy it tastes bland and I wouldnt be surprised if they just water down everything. This place is absolutely HORRIBLE and you would be better off eating just about anywhere else in Toronto. Good alternatives: banjara on bloor, glory of india, indian grill, or even just eating out of the garbage can would beat this absolute trash excuse for a restaurant. I threw out the meal because it wasnt even palatable, and Im a fat man who eats everything.

I am a vegetarian and they have a lot of grt options. Especially their malai kofta and paneer makhani. They just melt in ur mouth. Amazing taste.

We go here every Sunday. Beats Matha roti, and a few others we have tried. Rice is good. But most importantly its a good deal and great value. Love this place.

14 dollars for the curry chicken. I paid the two dollars for rice, because hey, that makes the most sense. Upon opening my tin, I was shocked to see a small line of curry and 4 small pieces of chicken. It was 95 percent rice. It tasted like hot garbage to boot. Definitely not a fond experience. Someone closed that tin for take out and felt they did a good job. You guys need quality assurance with what you put out. Disappointment does not create a fan base.

I ordered an eggplant potato curry on rice. It turned out to be quite plain and flavorless. Is it because I asked it to be mild? Well that isnt a good excuse for the lack of richness in taste. On top of that the meal was very runny and watery. The meal screams please never order me again, ever. The experience should be rated 2, top.

Below Average Dont try any biryani. Selling Pulao type - some rice dish as biryani. And, Chicken Curry includes big chunks of Potato. It tastes more like potato curry with chicken pieces. I feel sorry for Non-Native guys. If any non-native is reading this, believe me Indian cuisine is much better than this. Bad Experience.

Overall pretty good except for korma. It was with a brown a la curry sauce instead of creamy one, no cashews detected.

These people make the best Indian Roti Ive ever had downtown in the city. All of the food is prepared to meticulous standards, no surprises served here. The interior decor is a bit weird but who cares? You are there to eat! These people are kind and patient and they serve delicious food. I find the service and quality is very consistent. I have never had a bad experience eating food from Mother India in many years. The menu has something for everybody even if you are a novice trying Indian food.

Very tasty!! I order through skip the dishes (support Canadian!!) Super affordable price for big portions. The butter chicken in specific was really good, and Ive had my fair share of butter chicken. They have 2 dessert items and I got both, they were also quite perfect. Very happy with my meal thanks a lot !!

AVOID!!! This place needs to close for health violations. I just got the worst food poisoning for over a week from their shrimp. Check other 1 star reviews, there are many complaints of food poisoning.

Delicious Indian food, especially for vegans out there who has cravings for Indian dish from time to time like myself. I tried many of their vegetarian/ vegan dishes and I m pleased with most of them. Channa curry is my go to dish here. I also recommend Mutter korma and saag korma. Both taste very good and you can even wrap up most of their dish in roti. Decent spot for both quality and quantity.

Ordered through Uber eats, and it took over an hour before I finally got a call from my ubereats delivery person saying the restaurant had told him my order was already picked up so he couldnt pick it up. It was never picked up and I never got it, so either they lied and never made it or just gave it to the wrong person and refused to acknowledge it. They refused to do any thing, and I had to complain through Uber eats. Have had multiple issues with this place before. Their roti is good but not worth the trouble.

First time eating from Mother India today, and I was sadly disappointed. I got a lamb roti, and though the flavour was delicious, for almost $15 after tax...it was not worth the price. There was probably only 5-7 or so pieces of lamb in the entire thing.
