The Cottage Cheese is a Feeling, A Celebration, A Modern Fine Dining Experience, Where we tantalize your taste buds with Classic Indian Flavors served with Elegance and Assimilating the Molecular Gastronomic Techniques.
Great spot for Indian food near the Kensington Market! We’ve been wanting to try this place for awhile, and it lived up to the hype. We ordered the papad, pink samosa chaat, daal and the saffron chicken korma, with some garlic naan on the side. ALL were flavourful and high quality (esp. the korma)! We’d go back and try a completely new slate of dishes! You won’t go wrong stopping here if you’re hungry for Indian.
Came here with a group of 6 friends. Had a wonderful time and the food was absolutely amazing! The chef gave us a a plate of crisps (some sort of appetizer) for free and we enjoyed it so much. I just loved the interior design of the whole place and all the colours!
Definitely my fault for expecting an authentic Indian food in Kensington whereas other cuisines over there didn’t miss their authenticity. Well plated 👍🏽 Cocktails and are good 👍🏽 Dal makhani and breads are good 👍🏽 It tasted more like a Hakka food.👎🏽 Chicken 65 👎🏽 Gobi 👎🏽 Lamb rogangosh 👎🏽
Food was 😋 & well cooked, we really liked lamb dishes as they were having Smokey flavored and well done. It’s reasonably priced but ambiance can be worked on. Servers are good. Only point I would like them to improve upon if considered is cutlery’s should be tapped in napkin or kept on table instead of table. Rest all is well. Keep it up
Came here for Summerlicious. Service was good but there is a strict 1.5 hour dining time. They gave us a free mushroom pakora to start which was a nice gesture. Unfortunately, the fried chicken was coated with a thick batter. The inside and outside was bland, no seasoning. Other appetizer items were average. Enjoyed the garlic naan and lamb rogan josh. The mango fish curry was a bit too sweet and the fish was dry. Mango lassi was delicious but not sure if it was worth $12 for the size.
A crowd favourite! I had the pleasure of picking a restaurant for my team at work and I stumbled across the cottage cheese a few months ago and I knew this was the place to bring them. The cozy cottage vibe restaurant, hence the name, has the cottage theme all over it. The atmosphere had this wonderful cover songs of music that wasn’t so loud but really got into the zone of being relaxed at the cottage. I was a bit nervous because my team are not fans of spicy food but every dish we tried wasn’t spicy but had wonderful flavour. They served a bonus Amuse-bouche it was a lentil patty with red chutney and a sweet jam. We’ll definitely come back and highly recommend to more friends and colleagues.
We celebrated our 3rd anniversary here and it was so special. Not only is the food absolutely delicious -- such different and unique flavours to your typical Indian food restaurant -- but the service and hospitality was next level. We felt so taken care of the entire night! It was a really special evening. I can't wait to eat here again!
The Cottage Cheese: A Delicious Journey Through Indian Cuisine After following The Cottage Cheese on social media for over a year, I finally had the chance to dine there after moving back to Toronto. It exceeded all my expectations! The staff's genuine warmth made me feel right at home. Their menu encourages a flavorful exploration, so I opted for three dishes. Each portion was generous and bursting with fresh ingredients. The staff's attentiveness throughout the night, with different servers checking in to ensure my enjoyment, truly impressed me. I am still dreaming about their crispy okra, which was spicy enough to suddenly improve my breathing capabilities 😂 I can't wait to go back and embark on another delicious journey through their menu!
I recently visited The Cottage Cheese - Urban Indian in downtown Toronto for a large gathering, and I still cant believe restaurants with such poor food quality exist. As someone who loves exploring different cuisines and restaurants, I was extremely disappointed with the experience. If I had known what was in store, I would have avoided visiting altogether. The only two dishes that were somewhat enjoyable were the Crispy Okra and Bombay Bhel. Unfortunately, everything else we ordered including Chicken Biryani, Lamb Biryani, Chicken 65, Paneer Shashlik, Chicken Pate, Chaat, and Gulab Jamun was below average, lacking the authentic flavors one would expect from Indian cuisine. Nothing about the food stood out, and it honestly felt like a poor imitation of Indian food. While the plating and ambience were decent, they dont make up for the lackluster taste. The drinks were good, but the food was so disappointing that I see no reason to return. If this is the standard, I d rather cook at home than spend money on an unsatisfactory dining experience. That said, I want to emphasize that the service and staff were excellent. The servers were incredibly patient and attentive, ensuring we were comfortable throughout. However, good service cannot compensate for food that misses the mark. I strongly urge the restaurant to focus on improving the quality and authenticity of their dishes. For now, I cannot recommend this place and am left thoroughly disappointed.
Too amazing service best food options
Got lentil pakoras on the house and so many great dishes! You ll need plenty of naan and rice for these amazing foods. Love the cover songs as well
First time visit was completely unplanned but we were greeted with warmth and hospitality from the moment we walked in. Service was wonderful and the food was perfect! My partner and I loved the butter chicken and chicken mango moilee (and our unfortunately low tolerances for spice were easily accommodated). We paired our meals with a bread basket consisting of delicious naan and roti. 10/10 would eat here again!
such a cute place, great food, they change the menu seasonally so something new to look forward to each season. Really quaint, great date spot, or good for a small group! Try the samosa chaat!
The restaurant was so cold we had to leave. Come ONLY in the summer.
The restaurant suffers from very poor heating and poor insuation so we could not stay as our table was next to the freezing windows. We had to pass. What a shame
Great food and really friendly staff!
Came here for first time, with my husband. Had a wonderful time and the food was absolutely amazing! Ravi, the waiter who served us was really nice, and very helpful to us with the menu and everything. Highly recommended!
Loved it!
Possible one of my favourite restaurants in TO! The food is beyond delicious, the staff is so lovely and the atmosphere is a lot of fun.
Had a wonderful experience at this spot. Came for a solo experience and had a rather attentive waiter, Robbie, that made sure I was left alone but also taken care of. Got a Plate of crisps in the beginning, on the house and a small Gunny pouch with a cookie and candies. Truly excellent food and service. Will come again, this time with some friends.
The place is fine. For starters, it didn t have much veg options , like it was either dal makhani, lauki or paneer rose something (which was sweet). The least they could have is 2-3 paneer options, they didn t have anything spicy, mostly sweet. Even the curry was sweet. And secondly, it was EXPENSIVEEE. Like even the simple butter naan was 6$. We were a group of 6 and didn t each much, maybe just 1 naan each and little bit of curry, didn t even repeat anything and the bill was 108$, so basically 18$ and still an empty stomach. I didn t like it. If you want a proper Indian food and want to eat like a pro, I won t suggest this place at all. But if you juts wanna try new mix ups in Indian or whatever they do, go ahead. Attached 2 photos, that was 108$ Vegetarian options: Don t go if you re vegetarian.
Great food and excellent service. Highly recommended.
Excellent food. Excellent staff. Unmatched location and cant ask for anything else! Perfection redefined when it comes to ibdian food. A must visit restaurant in Canada!
Very nice and delicious food. All together great experience
Lovely restaurant that serves Indian food with a modern twist. The staff is really nice. Highly recommended.
A lovely Indian restaurant in the quaint Kensington market neighborhood. The restaurant is small and has limited seating but don t let that come in way of visiting this place. The food is delicious and the service warm and friendly. We tried the chicken tikka masala, Kashmiri Rogan Josh, chicken chettinad and dal makhni. All dishes were bursting with flavour! The naans were fresh and soft, a tad over priced in my opinion but fresh and delicious nonetheless. A restaurant I would highly recommend for people seeking authentic Indian flavours
Very nice place for brunch. Food was good and well-presented
Lovely restaurant, peaceful and calming amongst the vibrant and a bit gritty Kensington neighborhood. I enjoyed a delicious meal, if you re a fan of traditional Indian cuisine, I recommend you try The Cottage Cheese
This is the 2nd time I visited The Cottage cheese for my 26th birthday. The ambiance was beautiful with soft lighting. The service was great the staff were attentive and friendly. As for the food, we ordered pink samosa chaat, Chicken 65 - beautiful taste Chef s kiss and Hariyali chicken tikka. In the main dish we ordered mango chicken curry and Chicken Biryani which was divine. Drink I ordered Midnight Cocktail. Everything is over the top. Must visit
Great spot for good Indian food :) The samosa flavors and presentation was really amazing. Food
Food was unreal, all the plates were presented professionally. Adrian our staff member was so attentive and nice, and it rly doesnt break the bank.
Good food, service and ambience. Decent options for veg as well
Loved the food here, totally worth the price. Must visit.
So good, I ll go back without hesitation!
Cute restaurant with great food! We stopped by because the restaurant design looked cute. We were surprised to see the menu was Indian. We decided to stop in and were not disappointed! Quick, friendly service and the food as well!
The best Indian food I ve had in Toronto! Got the paneer makhani, daal makhani & garlic naan - everything was so flavourful and delicious! The staff was also very knowledgeable & provided great service.
We came here for a weekday dinner with reservation, but we were late so we had to wait for a table. This is a pretty popular restaurant in Kensington, I assume because of the aesthetic. They were playing Taylor Swift the whole time. I was pretty disappointed by the food. We got the chicken biriyani, naan, Tikka masala, and a paneer curry, and a lamb curry (I forget the menu name). Keep in mind that some items cant adjust the spice level so make sure to ask. The flavour for all the dishes was lacking and my Indian friends agreed. Dishes were on the expensive side. The vibes are nice, cozy and romantic here but the food was below par.
If everything on point had a name !!! I specially loved the vibes , it s alive . Food is delicious , fish tikka is a must try !!! Food
If I could give out Michelin stars I would pick this place! Everything about this place is amazing. Prime location in the middle of Kensington Market. The staff were so helpful and attentive. They gave us clear details of every plate we were interested in. The food was absolutely mouthwatering perfection. See below for the recommendations from our servers. Add this place to your list if youre craving upscale Indian food! Apps - Pink Samosa Chaat - Charcoal Chicken Tikka Mains - Chicken Chettinad - Garlic Naan - Ghee Rice Dessert - Gulab Jamun
Pretty much the standard on how fine dine Indian food should be. The best there is! Vegetarian options: Veg options galore Dietary restrictions: Very considerate on all accounts Wheelchair accessibility: Accessible
They have such a lovely atmosphere in this restaurant, I really enjoyed every moment from walking in! The servers were exceptional and ensured we were taken care of in every way and explained each dish. We had the butter chicken, paneer makhani and aloo gobi with the naan platter and ghee rice - all of them were exceptional dishes and I would definitely come back here again! The drinks were really fun too! Loved the mint and gin one!
Great service and food, attentive and knowledgeable staff, would 100% come back! Vegetarian options: A lot of vegetation options, all taste amazing
We had the saffron chicken curry and the chicken biryani. It was the best biryani I have ever had. The chicken curry was also delicious with large chunks of chicken. Definitely will be back!
The food is delicious, which seemed a little expensive for what they served. Everything else very good. The waitress was very friendly, attentive and professional. The terrace is very pleasant.
Some of the best, most flavourful, Indian food in Toronto. The samosa chaat is beyond and a must have! The saag, bharta, veg biryani, and chicken chettinad. The mango lassi is decadent and beautifully served. The servers were great friendly, helpful, and very accommodating. I will be back and soon!
This place is surprisingly good! Haven t had such amazing Indian food in years. Their Oregano fish tikka was splendid and their naan was one of the softest I ve ever had. everything from the ambience, to service and the food was on point. Only regret is not having discovered this place sooner.
We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! The moment we walked in, we were enveloped in a calm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff and servers were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we were seated and comfortable from the start. Our server, Ravi, truly stood out - his exceptional service and spot-on food recommendations exceeded our expectations. The dishes he suggested were outstanding, and we were thoroughly impressed. Kudos to Ravi for his outstanding service and to the entire team for a fantastic dining experience. We cant wait to return!
The food is amazing but huge shout out to the great server who helped me and my friend choose the best dished on the menu last friday evening (6.09). She was extremely helpful and patient. Regarding the food, for anyone coming for the first time the lamb bryani and butter chicken is a must!
It was nice, friendly service, great food but the time we went it was kind of empty.
Gluten-Free Options: Yes, but limited Cross Contamination: Medium to high risk Halal/ Kosher Options: No Vegan Option: Yes Vegetarian Options: Yes Nut Free Options: Yes First Impression: Not your traditional Indian restaurant. The design is modern and pleasing to the eye. Favourite: The lamb Baryani. The meat was tender and flavours were great. The presentation was interesting. The rice and meat are covered in a blanket of bread and the staff comes to cut it open for you. Critiques: The service wasn t the best. Our server seemed overwhelmed. He even dropped cutlery which he then picked up to bring back to our table. My husband had to ask him for new cutlery since he dropped it. Bonus: The dishes are presented in unique ways and they have a beautiful patio that s perfect for a summer night out. Take Away: This is a good place for a date night or girls night out. Despite the service not being up to par with the food and design. Follow on tiktok: @eatwithbuns
Great food. A must visit for innovative menu Vegetarian options: Plenty Food : 5/5 |
This isn t an exaggeration when I say . One of the best dining experiences from a taste perspective I ve had in a LONG TIME! A really fresh and modern take on your usual Indian cuisine. We ordered the beetroot, samosa, mango curry and lamb byriani and boy let me tell you every bite had us salivating. The service was top notch too, very personable and it seemed they really liked interacting with people. Felt like they truly appreciated you choosing to spend your time and money there and I don t take that lightly Overall would come here again and again and again. No question!
Amazing what can be done with a simple naan. Try the basil naan it was amazing with butter chicken.
This is one of the few restaurants in Toronto which delivers on all ends. The menu features elevated interpretations of classic Indian dishes, each plate offering a delightful surprise that strikes a perfect balance not too overpowering yet rich in flavor. I loved the crispy okra, pink samosa, and chicken corma. The staff are attentive and happy - not common at other restaurants. The restaurants large glass windows allow natural light to flood the space, creating an inviting atmosphere. Overall, this restaurant offers a dining experience that is highly memorable, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking exceptional Indian cuisine in the city.
Outstanding drinks (ordered the maple old fashioned and hibiscus margarita)! Fish tacos and eggplant chips were one of a kind. Would strongly encourage you to try anything on the menu and you will not be disappointed.
The service is really good !
Beautiful atmosphere, delicious food, but costy
Best Indian Cuisine that we ever had in Toronto!!! Our fav was Chicken Biryani and Basil garlic naan which is a must try!!! Dont miss it and you will thank me later :) And the hospitality was top notch!
My cousin and I tried this place for dinner on a Thursday night and it was amazing! The servers were so lovely and engaged, helping provide menu suggestions and regularly checking in on us. The food was great too! We will definitely be back.
Summericious lunch $35 Butter chicken is the best. I wish they could have lassi option for desserts. The amount is small, so it may not be enough for some people. Maybe its the amount to keep it at $35. The main course, butter chicken & garlic naan, was delicious as expected. There were two dessert options, so I couldnt find one I liked. I wish I had lassi.
Three of my friends and I made a reservation at The Cottage Cheese for my birthday dinner at the end of a weekend trip to Toronto. When we got to the end of the trip and went over our highs and lows of the trip, the four of us unanimously agreed that The Cottage Cheese was the best part of our trip. We were lucky to be there on the last evening of their Summerlicious menu and we were able to get an appetizer, an entree, and dessert for $45 CAD. Every single thing we ate that night was absolutely spectacular and delicious. I was so grateful to have so many friends there not only for their company but also so I could try so many of their dishes! For appetizers, most of us ordered the Tandoori Garlic Broccoli and it was the creamiest. The Bombay Bhel was also great! Absolutely delicious. The Kashmiri Lamb Rogan Josh had the most tender and delicious lamb Ive ever had in my entire life. The Chicken Chettinad was spectacular, and the Dal Makhani was great. The cocktails were amazing too! We got the Blueberry Cardamom Fizz which was great for me since Im a huge fan of elaichi, The Hibiscus Margarita, and the Midnight Magic cocktails. For dessert we had the mango cheesecake. On top of the food and the cocktails being so amazing, the service was impeccable and it was a topic of discussion the entire night. We only came away from the night with one thing that we didnt like which was the washroom. While very clean, there was no place to hang a bag or anything like that and it was quite narrow, but apart from that we would recommend this restaurant for everybody! Ive already told so many people about this restaurant and I cant wait to come back next time Im in Toronto!
They told me they take the last order at 9:45. I got there at 9:42. Would not let me make an order. I drove all the way based on what they said. Got there on time. Bunch of clowns.
Amazing food, best indian food i have ever had, my server kamla was amazing, thank you guys for amazing experience, will definitely be back
The food was great! We got the cauliflower bites, butter chicken and garlic naan. Perfect amount to share between two people. Service was also good :) would recommend for sure.
Pretty nice place with good service. Food was okay, nicely plated but the chicken 365 just tasted like chicken tossed in a lot of buffalo sauce. The lamb biryani was okay, lamb was cooked perfectly but the rice was too soft and something about the flavour was off. They give pretty good sizes for the dishes but it s a bit expensive. For one app and one meal it came out to 75$.
The food was incredible, beautifully presented and the staff were all so lively. Its such a cute little restaurant too.
Excellent ! Im used to eating Indian in Paris, and its often excellent. But this restaurant is way above the best Indian restaurants in Paris, I love it! Excellent ! And perfect service.
Will be in Michelin guide at some point, mark my words.
The stars are for the lovely staff at this restaurant!!! They are so kind and sweet and even though I wasn t wow-ed by the food, they made up for it! The food is very okay. Prices are a bit high for the portion sizes. Drink prices are also very high - even for the non alcholic ones. The naans are divine though!!!!
Food was wonderful and authentic. The restaurant itself had a lovely atmosphere and the waitstaff was very kind.
Have had Indian all over and including India , this place is amazing. The flavors take on from original Indian flavor but then develop so much . Food
Four of us had dinner at The Cottage Cheese last night and we all absolutely loved it!!! The food is fresh, healthy and DELICIOUS!! All the dishes are unique and arrive at the table hot. Hari is such a great guy and he took very good care us. To be honest, the entire team was impressive. Fantastic experience and a very friendly, professional and welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be back - highly recommend! Thank you all!
Lovely restaurant! Nice atmosphere, very friendly people and amazing food! Would recommend going here!
The Cottage Cheese is a premier destination for those who seek the finest in Indian cuisine. The restaurant effortlessly combines traditional flavors with modern sophistication, using only the highest quality, locally sourced ingredients. Each dish is a work of art, reflecting a deep commitment to culinary excellence. The ambiance exudes refined elegance, perfectly matched by impeccable service that caters to every need with grace and precision. Dining at The Cottage Cheese is more than just a meal it s a luxurious culinary journey that leaves a lasting impression. A must-visit for connoisseurs of exceptional food.
So so delicious. Absolutely loved the Pink Samosa and the Butter Naan. The space is pretty and intimate. Highly recommend Food : 5/5
I could see this place had mixed reviews but here s my take for the below reasons. What I did not appreciate- We did a walk-in, and since we didn t have a reservation they asked if we would we be okay to be seated on the outside patio even though there were tables available inside. We sat outside for 1.5 hours and the indoor tables were still empty. The worst part of being seated outside was the stoned people walking by in between the restaurant seating area passing remarks and causing nuisance and that simply spoiled our experience. To the point we had apps and had to take away our main course. - The appetizers were great but overall for the price-point the meal missed the wow factor.
Had high expectations coming for dinner and this place did not disappoint! Drinks were great and food was authentic and full of flavor
Great place if you are in the area. Took the parents there they enjoyed the food. Good cocktails too
The service is on the slower side (so dont go here if you want a quick work lunch) but the food is delicious and made with love. Highly recommend!! We ordered turnip tikki chaat, saffron chicken korma, eggplant bharta with chilli garlic naan and ghee rice! Everything was finger licking gooood
Father s Day evening well spent at Cottage Cheese. No better way to enjoy the summer and late sunset than the patio dining.. crispy okra.. dum biryani .. it s a bit pricey but for sure great food Vegetarian options: Amazing vegan and vegetarian options
Vegetarian options: Good amount of veg options Parking: no parking, (paid) street parking is available but hard to find in peek hours Food : 5/5 |
Too expensive and not woth it
Great food and nice staff ! I definetly recommend stopping by if you are in the aera !
It was our first visit at The Cottage Cheese yesterday, and we loved the ambience, food and friendly service. Authentic Indian Cuisine, with lovely taste, aroma and very delicious. Good quantity and well decorated on the plate! We loved it!! #awesomefood #awesomeservice. Keep it up! Food
Great experience. Good food well presented. Service with a smile. The restaurant was very clean with a great ambience. Loved the food very delicious. Service with a smile.
Very good place to eat, all good
Interesting Indian fusion cuisine with good services in Kensington. Must try
10/10 experience!!! Pictured are some of the newer items for the summer rotation including the beetroot galette, the pink samosa chaat, the chicken mango curry and the rose petal paneer. All dishes were so unique and bursting with flavour, the pistachio pudding is also an absolutely must for a dessert thats not too sweet! The staff were so so friendly and helpful, and the restaurant itself was gorgeous! We literally cant wait to go back :)
Great spot serving delicious Indian food in Kensington market. Butter chicken and paneer makhani tasted authentic and delicious!
This is the great place to eat whatever we tried( pink samosa chaat, mushroom pineapple starter, rose petal paneer, and masala bhindi ) all were so delicious. Ambience was so good and service was great
One of the best Indian restaurants that you can go to !! The menu is unique, the food is awesome & the staff is very friendly ! Its a nice urban Indian place - many Indian dishes on the menu have a good balance of Indian & international flavors . We loved the eggplant bites, the Hibiscus Margarita & all the curries & naans that we ordered. Highly recommend !
Avoid this place for summerlicious. Everything here tastes like overcooked food made in the microwave with small portions including their espresso martini. Every food in the menu is literally bulk prepped in the back like an Indian buffet and reheated to serve thats why every single meat is dry including chicken, lamb and fish. Oh and the kfc doesnt come with fried chicken thigh, its just a single drumstick Presentation is decent but whats the point if it has 0 taste and texture.
In the midst of Kensington, it s a cute diner with great service and flavourful food. One of the few downtown spots that makes authentic Indian food. Their daal makhani is closest to delhi s Bukhara, the chicken tikka masala and chettinad chicken was fantastic. The veg starters were better than the non veg chicken tikka but overall great experience. 4.5/5.
Recently dined in here with a bunch of friends while hanging out in Kensington market. It s a cute intimate spot has a beautiful calm positive ambience and atmosphere. The food is absolutely soulful we got to try the summerlicious menu it was a nice 3 course and well spread out We got appetizers, main course and a dessert so we got a bit of everything The staff is very friendly and gave us good recommendations Overall will be coming here again whenever I want a good Indian bite!!
We had a delicious meal. Adrian took great care of us and we loved the food. Dishes were packed full of flavor.
Really good food (lamb bhuna was especially amazing), friendly service, and relaxed vibes. 5/5 and would totally recommend.
The three courses dinner set was absolutely remarkable and the Mango cheesecake was outstanding! Definitely will return again to try more items from the menu
Great hospitality, great ambience, delicious food.
Such a great restaurant! We love Indian food and this was a treat! We started with the cauliflower and samosa. We immediately ordered another cauliflower, it was that good. I took the fish in mango curry, and it was perfect. The fish was done extremely well and the curry was delicious. Other dishes we took were chicken in mango sauce, chicken Tika masala, and the tiger shrimp. All dishes were super interesting and delicious. Service was also great. Hari was super nice and wanted us to enjoy our dinner to the fullest. Next time in Toronto we will visit here again for sure
I recently dined at The Cottage Cheese and had an outstanding experience. The warm ambiance and friendly staff set the tone for a wonderful meal. The menu is filled with authentic Indian dishes, and every bite was bursting with flavor. The service was impeccable, with knowledgeable staff providing excellent recommendations. The Gulab Jamun for dessert was a delightful finish. The Cottage Cheese is a must-visit for anyone craving genuine Indian cuisine. Highly recommended!
I loved the food and the staff at the restaurant. The food was amazing and the staff was really accommodating with the baby. I can t wait to go back, great place for Indian food. The mango cheesecake is something I will definitely go back for.
Hands down the best Indian food Ive had in Toronto! They are running summer special fixed lunch & dinner menus. My wife opted for Charcoal Chicken, Methi Corn Paneer with Naan & Payasam. I opted for Mirchi bharwa, Dal Makhani with Garlic Naan & Gulab jamun. Every single dish tasted delicious. There are very few places that get the dal makhani right and this was one of them. Highly recommend! Vegetarian options: Dal Makhani - Garlic Naan combo. Plus a lot more available.
If you want to be treated badly- must visit here. You ll have enough time to finish a movie before you get your chicken tikka. Taste was okayish, it was very dry. Would not recommend going there, but if that s how you want your food, do visit.
Amazing quality, so delicious, one of the best Indian restaurants I ve been to. Also the service is perfect too.
My friend and I got the Paneer Makhani, dal makhani with garlic naan. She got the hibiscus margarita and I got the purple haze. The food was honestly amazing, though my friend said my paneer makhani was little sweeter than she liked - personally, I loved it. For reference my friend is Indian and Im not, so she has more to compare than me. The drinks were also really good but theyre pricey for sure. I paid $70, but I could have cut that to $50 if I didnt get a drink. Also, the menu shows a water bottle for $7 which is a little ridiculous. Overall, Id comeback and recommend. Food, service and ambience were good!
Everything was so flavorful, from the drinks, to appetizers, to the main dish. Steven much more than I wanted to. Couldn t put my utensils down.
The food was exceptional and the atmosphere was very serene and cute!
Nestled in the heart of Kensington Market, this charming Indian restaurant and bar offers a delightful escape. The inviting, poetic patio caught our attention, prompting us to stop for a drink. While the prices for beverages are on the higher side, the enchanting atmosphere makes it worthwhile. Although we didnt sample the food this time, it was clear from the satisfied expressions of other guests that the cuisine is exceptional. We look forward to returning soon to explore their extensive menu.
Had an amazing evening at this urban Indian restaurant, the patio is soo lovely that we just wanted to continue chillin with our drinks. Also our server Adrian handled our table of 5 adults with perfect display of relaxed competence. Highly recommend this restaurant Food
Food was severely underwhelming especially considering the very high price point. Otherwise the restaurant was pleasant in terms of service and ambiance. The meat dishes had some sort of weird after taste to the dish which was out of the norm.
Best place and staff. Must place for family celebrations .
Excellent food and best service.
They just launched their new summer menu and I had a chance to go for tasting. Everything was delish. We started with the avocado salad(of course) and had Turnip tikki chaat. I am a chaat lover and was so impressed by the whole pumpkin touch to this chat. For mains, we had my fav rose petal paneer, mango chicken curry with some naan. At this point we were so full but we ended up trying their new biryani as well - Too good!!! Being pistachio lover, i had to have the pistachio payasam. I cannot wait to go back!! The staff is extremely friendly and boho interior s gonna steal your heart.
It is a Auspicious place where your brain functions perfectly and your body receives a rare and peaceful energy The mind works as we eat, the brightness of the mind increases after eating here
Freaking AMAZING INDIAN FOOD!!! Just blew my mind with the services and how tasty the food was! Absolutely a must go !!!
Lovely place with tasty food. Special thanks to Mr. Sandeep for the excellent service.
Food is mid, drinks are good place is not fine dine
Great food. Will have to go back for more!
Amazing experience overall. Delicious and authentic food, beautiful patio, and friendly service.
Have been here a number of times including for a buy out and we got phenomenal feedback from attendees in the good! Anusri is also the most warm and friendly server I ve ever met, and feels like such a special experience to go to the Cottage Cheese.
All the food and drinks were amazing! The flavours are amazing, creative, and distinct. The atmosphere and decor is beautiful and the service was very nice and friendly! I ve included pictures of the samosa chaat and cauliflower bites which I recommend. Will definitely be coming back again.
Amazing cocktails and food! My favourite Indian restaurant in Toronto! Definitely recommend a visit.
Very very delicious food. I celebrated my sons s graduation there. We had dinner there with our friends who are like our family now. All my guests were bowled over by the taste of the food. Everything was very fresh and every single dish made to perfection. We were 9 of us and all my guests enjoyed the whole experience. We left with happy faces and happy bellies. Shout out to the young gentleman who was allotted to look after us. I forgot his name but he was a gem. Shout out to the grand man, Mr Cyrus Rupa who honoured our celebration by coming to meet us and gave my son a gift too. Thank you to the owners who gave us the dessert on the house which certainly put a smile on our faces and me and my family wish them the best in their future endeavours. May they open many more branches . Mazda bless! Mahrukh Sutaria
Was a highly recommended place from Instagram so thought I would give it a try! The garlic naan was delicious, however, the other food - appetizer, curry, and dessert were okaish. I was expecting the place to not be a traditional desi cuisine so was ready to try something new. Cue in - Beetroot kofta: You expect the sauce to be on the creamy side, bur it was a bit too much for me. The samosa chat felt a bit undercooked too. In general, the price didnt feel commensurate for the food quality. And felt that desi people may not be the demographic the place is targeting.
This is now my favourite indian restaurant in the gta (i ve been to A LOT). You ve got basic dishes like rogan gosh etc but also some really unique dishes like the beetroot galette (insane). Pictured is their take on bhel puri, which was also insanely good! Beer selection is fantastic too The service is perfection. Zero complaints. Probably the best service we ve had in a while. No long waits but still not rushed and very friendly staff. My only critique is that there were a lot of fruit flies. Can be tough to keep them out of restaurants in the summer but should have traps in place to manage them. It did not hinder our positive experience though! Make sure you BOOK! We were very lucky to get a table even on a Wednesday.
This was my third time eating at this place and it never disappoints. Great staff and food is one of the best Indian in Toronto downtown. Andre was great as a server and even did a special dessert for one of my friend s birthday. Highly recommend and will surely come back.
A nice selection of very well prepared Indian dishes! Many good vegetarian, vegan and omnivore options.
We were in Toronto for the evening from Ottawa, and a friend recommended this restaurant. We were so happy to have listened to their recommendation, because it exceeded our expectations! The food was so flavourful and unique, and portions generous enough that we left with leftovers for the next day. Our favourites were the samosa chaat, the lamb curry, chicken biryani and the pistachio rice pudding dessert. The service was so lovely as well, friendly and helpful! I would absolutely recommend this place to a friend, and will definitely come back next time I am in town.
Absolutely delicious - presentation was amazing and the food tasted even better. Will definitely try to get here again!
We had dinner here last night. All of the dishes were tasty but unfornately the butter chicken and lamb dishes had very litle meat in each dish. The prawns were moist and very good. This dish can be very dry sometimes. They did it well. Garlic naan, also very good.
Super expensive but the taste is not different from those cheap Indian restaurants
Nice place to have Indian cuisine. Food tastes good and portion size is adequate. We ordered saag paneer, garlic naan and lacha paratha.
Lovely food. Good vibes.
A bit pricey - the portion size felt very small for $19! I found my eggplant was lacking in flavour.
Staff was friendly and chill. Very attentive. Vibe was great and modern, very nice decor. Food was amazing, spiced perfectly and filling. Highly recommend the samosas. 10/10

Nestled in the heart of Kensington Market, this charming gem delights with its exceptional Indian cuisine and impeccable service. Experience the delectable flavors of traditional Indian dishes with a modern twist, expertly crafted to perfection. Despite its elevated approach, the restaurant maintains an unpretentious ambiance, inviting diners to savor each bite without breaking the bank. While portion sizes may differ from traditional Indian eateries, the emphasis here is on quality rather than quantity, ensuring a satisfying dining experience at a reasonable price point. The cozy and intimate atmosphere makes it an ideal setting for a romantic date or a casual get-together with friends. The attentive and friendly service further enhances the overall dining experience, ensuring every guest leaves with a smile.
We visited the restaurant (6 friends group), as I have heard a lot about this restaurant on instagram. We were told in the beginning that the portions were less. We thought that it s fine as long as the food tastes good. We ordered about 7-8 items and not one was up to our expectations. We have eaten a lot of Indian food and we know the standards. The presentation, ambience and the service were amazing. We wished the food was that way too. This is my opinion.
Delicious :) great service and food. Best biryani I ve ever had. The saag paneer is also so unique and extra special. A special spot for a night out.
I really enjoyed my experience at this restaurant! The ambiance is fantastic, with a modern and stylish atmosphere. Dining with friends was a delight as we shared several dishes, and we couldnt resist ordering extra naans. However, we were a bit surprised when the bill came out to be a little over $30 per person. Nonetheless, the food was fantastic! The staff members, especially Manish, were incredibly cool and friendly. I was impressed by their service when I asked for something milky to counter the spiciness, and they brought us a complimentary appetizer or drink (Im not sure what it was), which was refreshing and helped cool down the heat. Ill definitely be returning for another Anushree is an excellent server, truly a gem! Our experience at this restaurant was delightful. The food was amazing, and the beer tower was truly impressive quite a sight with its towering height! While it was a bit overwhelming for just the two of us, it certainly caught the attention of passersby. I highly recommend this place to anyone in the area seeking authentic and delicious food.
A place to go to if you are looking for modern Indian cuisine. The place has great food , with taste quite unlike authentic Indian food. They didn t overwhelm their dishes with spices, cream or butter , giving the food a slightly varying taste. The ambience is great as well, and quite refreshing. They cook their food a little distant from the seating area, which is a great. Wonderfully done and quite innovative. Truly urbanist..
Chicken Chettinad curry was way too good, Naan was very soft , the appetizers of chicken was very well marinated and cooked. Manager was very friendly and guided us well through the menu . Amazing dine in experience, would certainly recommend .
Good good. Good service. Warm environment. Food : 4/5
I absolutely loved my lunch. I stumbled upon this place while walking around and decided to try it. Excellent Indian food. Some of the best I have had in North America. Flavors are amazing. Best spinach paneer I have had outside of India. If I lived in Toronto, I would regularly eat here. Seriously, the food is great. Vegetarian options: Excellent vegetarian options and not just the typical ones you get in every Indian restaurant.
The restaurant is nicely set up, and the service was good. The food was ok. The presentation of the dishes was unique and eye catching, but the portions were on the smaller side, and the prices were a bit too high. It is nice that they served a complimentary appetizer
I tried the saag paneer at this vibey Indian restaurant in Kensington market. Not only was the presentation so pretty, but the taste was also great! I especially loved the flavours of the baby spinach puree and the squishy texture of the paneer. My friends also enjoyed the chicken tikka masala and the coconut fish curry. We shared the garlic naan, the chilli garlic naan, and saffron rice the garlic naan was definitely my favourite! Service was nice and relatively fast, and the restaurant atmosphere is pretty aesthetic and cozy. The one downside is that portions aren t the largest, considering the price.
Tasty. Pricing a little high.
Loved the vibe of the place .. The hospitality of the employees was Love love it . We had cauliflower bites , Shashlik paneer tikka and veg biryani the quantity was good for 2 people .. Up for Cozy townside fulfilling dishes ?! .. it s the best spot to visit ..
Food is incredible, the chef does an amazing job with the flavours, we had the beetroot, butter chicken and samosa...incredible. the service was great very friendly server. The restaurant interior is also very cozy and calming vibe. The patio in the summer time is really amazing too. Cant wait to go back with my family. If youre looking for good food and vibes, try this place, you will not be disappointed.
Sincerely amazing service and food, the curry is perfect, and you do need a reservation but its worth it!
Lovely food options, elevated taste and beautiful light decorations. We went on a Monday night and were seated without reservation (approx 7:30pm). The servers were extremely nice and even offered us a complimentary tomato soup appetizer. I had a great time and would visit again! Dietary restrictions: No worries about peanut allergies, but there are dishes that include nuts.
Delicious food and great customer service. My whole family enjoyed The Cottage Cheese. We will be back!
Best restaurant so far in toronto .Adrian has very good serving skills .
great customer service loved my chaat Thanks Adrian
A decent place for those wanting an intro to Indian food or who prefer mild spicing. A small place that is designed well and feels cozy. The service is very good, staff are friendly and pay attention. I think cocktails have double shots, they are very strong and need to be in bigger glasses with more juice. The papads & mango sauce was tasty. The chicken tikka was cooked perfectly but was quite bland, I had also requested that they make it desi/apna style but was told they can t do that. The bread box is worth the price. The butter chicken quite sweet (they told us this) but still decent.
Not gonna lie the service is pretty good, we got what we ordered in time, but the food quality and taste.. uhhh would not recommend.
It s a cute restaurant with a cosy atmosphere in Kensington. This is the first Indian restaurant I have visited where the dishes had an authentic taste with the right spice level and flavours. The food did justice to all the unique flavours and the portions were good enough for two people. They gave us complimentary mulligatawny soup bowls to start off. We ordered the chicken 65 for starters, followed by the mutton roganjosh and the bread basket. The service was a 10/10 where the waitstaff was the friendliest, asking if we liked the food and needed anything else. Would definitely recommend this place for the best time! Vegetarian options: Tons of veggie options
Excellent restaurant with good service.
This is the best Indian food Ive had in Toronto (it reminded me of the Indian food I had in Kerala, which until recently was the best Indian food Ive ever had)! Everything tastes like it was just prepared, ingredients are whole and fresh, spiced to perfection. I love all the paneer dishes, the appetizers (especially the fried cauliflower), and they have the most amazing garlic naan ever. Great vegetarian options. They also often bring out a treat on the house. This place is amazing!
Very consistent service. So far it s been great flavours EVERY TIME. As you can see from my google History, I don t review often. My pessimistic side says, I hope it continues. My optimistic side says, I look forward to dining here with every configuration of friends to enjoy the great flavours every time.
Great food and service!
This dining experience is one of my favourites in Toronto. I ve been a handful times and each time it has been amazing! The quality and taste of the food is unbelievably good. The service is exceptional- they are so attentive with filling your water, checking in on you and often provide on the house dips, soups, or food to taste while you wait for your main dish. They are very communicative and accommodating of food allergies. If you want the freshest and softest naan you ve ever had in your life- you got to eat here. I highly recommend it. Dietary restrictions: There are labels that help identify foods with or without allergens. The staff are very knowledgeable and willing to accommodate where possible. Thank you.
I liked this place a lot! Its very atmospheric, modern, and stylish. Enjoyed dinner with friends by sharing several dishes, reordered naans couple of times so was surprised when our final bill was a bit more than $30 per person. Food is great! Also, I was pleased by the staff when I asked whether they have something milky to neutralize the spiciness, and the waiter brought as a free service some appetizer/drink (not sure what it was) but it was fresh and cool so kinda helped. Will definitely visit again!
Softest naan in town! Food has got spice and the service is great :) lamb kebab and laal mas (*really spicy and authentic) is a must try!
Best paneer Ive had
My friend and I visited this restaurant yesterday and did not have a great experience. We ordered a beet appetizer which was fried and had a rather tangy sauce. Not at all what we expected. For our mains we ordered the bread basket and two curries. We were not served spoons with the curries. I wonder if the restaurant expected us to use our own spoons (which were not switched after apps). I had to get up and ask for spoons and wait another 5 minutes for them. Our food was getting cold by that point. The curries lacked salt and flavour and were not what we expected, not to mention the small quantity of each curry for the price. Overall we would not be going back!
My first time trying Indian food. Definitely left satisfied. Highly recommended
Great place to have authentic Indian food, pricey and small portion but the quality is good.
Nobody does Indian food better in the town than this restaurant !
The host and waiter greeted us so warmly and showed us to our table . Our meal was outstanding! We had the garlic cauliflower and the chicken in a mango curry sauce. The food was so beautiful vibrant and delicious and our waiter was so attentive. We cannot wait to return!!
I visited Cottage Cheese when it first opened and I remember the food, service, and ambience being exceptional. We recommended the restaurant to all of our friends and family upon our first visit. I recently dined again and I have to say my experience was very disappointing. The service was slow even tho the restaurant was basically empty with only few tables. The server seemed annoyed with even simple requests (I am a server as well so I definitely have empathy towards industry workers). I simply just deduced it to the server having a bad day and did not take it personally. She did not have any proper etiquette and I did not feel welcome and felt like a burden the whole time I sat there. My visit was about a month ago. And I didn t wanna leave a bad review. But one of my friends whom i recommended this place to also said that they felt the exact same way as me. I felt embarrassed since they went following my recommendation. The food is amazing but for a place that is more upscale and higher price range, I would think the service would be at the same level for the price we re paying. I don t want to mention names but I really do hope management pays more attention to hospitality and customer service skills amongst the staff. I still love this place but wouldn t go back and wouldn t recommend it again to anyone else.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Heres the before and after. Honestly very good food!
Our waiter Adrian made our dinner so pleasant and warm. Always topped up our waters without having to flag him. The SaagPaneer & LaalMaasLamb was so perfectly presented, cooked just right and did not break my wallet. Enjoyment to the max
Anushri is awesome! We had a party of over 8 people and she took such good care of it <3
Had an excellent experience with great staff and friends. Food was on point, and delivered in a timely fashion. Highly recommend. Anushree was fabulous and definitely made our dining experience even better with her recommendations
Always hitting the mark! Thank you Anushree! The lamb biryani is always a delight :)
Came here out of curiosity with my friends and I loved the food, atmosphere and most importantly, the caring energy of the waiter here. I think her name was Anushree!
Went here for lunch and was very impressed with all of the food. Samosa chaat was delicious and the tandoori optima were awesome. The garlic naan was so light and flaky. Service was amazing. Would go there again
A cabin feel dining experience with great ambience and vibes. The food is very flavourful and presentation spot on. The drinks are crafted artistically and the service was excellent. Adrian was a wonderful host and provided service with care. I definitely recommend this place to anyone.
Very delicious food & good environment
Food and service was amazing, food was very delicious.
High quality food
Lovely little spot in Kensington Market offering great Indian food and excellent service. The food at this restaurant was delicious Indian dishes with somewhat of an elevated twist without being pretentious at all. We tried a couple of their mains and they packed so much flavor and richness. The portion sizes are not the typical Indian restaurant sizes but its definitely quality over quantity at a very reasonable price. The spot is charming and quaint, nice for a date or just nice dinner with friends. The service is excellent, our waiter was very helpful and made sure we had a great experience
Phenomenal food, staff are warm, welcoming, so friendly. The taste is unreal, and the presentation gilds the lily Food : 5/5
Really great food
The vibe in here is so cozy and cute - perfect for date night! The food was absolutely delicious! We had the butter chicken, paneer tikka masala, chicken biryani, rosemary naan, and cheese naan. Will definitely be back for more!
Food and Ambience is good. Server were helpful and suggested the better meal plan for 4 people. Biryani was really good and the fish curry was one of the best in Toronto.
Incredible food and service
What does one write after youve had one of the best Indian meals youve ever had? Its hard to find words that would truly convey how much we enjoyed our meal at The Cottage Cheese on Monday night...but Ill try. Were from NYC and were visiting Toronto for a concert. We had no idea where to eat before the show so we blindly chose The Cottage Cheese...we had NO idea what we were in for...I was the only one drinking so I started with a cocktail, the Not Too Old, their take on an Old Fashioned is made with Maple Syrup, and it was delicious. Instead of simple syrup, the use of maple syrup not only added a new dimension to the cocktail, but provided just the right amount of sweetness I was looking for. We were started with a little offering of a warm soup of the day. Just enough spice to wake up our palettes and get ready for our meal. We moved on to appetizers. The Kale and Corn Pakoda had a very nicely crisped exterior and the accompanying chutney (sauce) added depth of flavor (a recurring theme with all we ate). The Beetroot Galette wasnt a classic French style flat Galette but more of a cake. The crispy exterior gave way to a warm, smooth mixture of root vegetables whose flavors were anchored by a mildly sweet but earthy beet puree. The star however was the Samosa Chaat. This may have been THE best Samosa Chaat weve ever had. Not only was there incredible depth of flavor throughout the layers, the samosa had been freshly fried and thus still nice and crispy which only enhanced the dish overall. Most restaurants offering this dish fry their samosas in advance and simply reheat before serving which leaves them a little soggy...Not here. It was delicious. GREAT start, but the meal only got better with our entrees. The Bread Box wasnt a box at all but a heaping platter of 3 different breads they serve. Paneer Tikka Masala is a beautiful rendition served with peppers and onions. The Chicken Mango Curry offers a slightly sweet but rich, savory sauce made with coconut milk and mustard seeds. Slivers of mango were added to the sauce along with bite sized pieces of chicken breast that were melt in your mouth tender and had been simmered in the sauce long enough to infuse those delicious flavors, not simply thrown in at the last moment. This was a really well executed dish with layer upon layer of flavor but perhaps the biggest surprise of our meal was the Tengda Style Eggplant. This stew elevated the humble eggplant into my culinary heaven. This is a deeply rich stew made with tomatoes, tamarind, coconut milk and herbs and was oh my gawd good! It would be easy to over cook this dish, but the food at The Cottage Cheese is clearly prepared with love, an understanding of the ingredients and respect for the craft. Everything about our meal left us smiling and really happy. The quality of food, its depth of flavors and the warm friendly service makes The Cottage Cheese one of the best Indian restaurants in Toronto OR New York...and Im sure diners in San Francisco will feel the same way when they open up out west. GO. EAT...and ENJOY! Vegetarian options: There are too many Vegan options to list here. Dietary restrictions: The menu is WELL marked for dietary restrictions and preferences.
The garlic cauliflower and chicken dum biryani are excellent. I will be coming back Food : 5/5
The cottage cheese has been an excellent addition to the best food neighborhood in Toronto. Food, service, atmosphere, reasonable pricing; this upscale Indian restaurant does all of it well. The interior of the restaurant is lovely. It s a very cozy atmosphere great for a date. Service wise, people are really attentive and friendly. The food is top notche. We tried 3 curries - jackfruit kofta, laal maas lamb and coastal shrimp curry. The laal maas had a nice kick to it, the mango used in the shrimp curry gave it a great sweetness and the jackfruit had a real meatiness to it despite being vegetarian. Their naans are delicious as well, we had both the cheese and chili garlic one. Will have to return to try their lamb biryani and chicken mango curry. The cottage mango dream also looks unreal
Great experience overall except one factor; the portions are very small. When paying for dishes that are 20-25$+ that don t come with rice or naan, you would expect a larger amount.
It s my boyfriend s and I s favourite staple for dinner out. Absolutely incredible, authentic Indian, and a great atmosphere with great people. We come here about once a week and it never fails to hit it out of the park! 10/10.
A few of my friends and I decided to check this place out as we were craving spicy food and what a pleasant surprise!! Every dish we ordered was so flavourful!! We ordered mostly spicy food and it was delicious. Flavours were rich and unique. Service was superb!! We were 4 people and the bill came to $50ish per person and we ordered 7 dishes + naan, so definitely think pricing was reasonable. We were all very happy with everything and would highly recommend.
I came here with my friends, and one of them has a service dog. They denied serving us, didnt ask for documentation or anything, and kicked us out. Ill be escalating this to the city.
Amazing service with a peaceful environment... Mainly, the lights in night look amazing.. and the taste of food is mindblowing.. Staff are also so polite and show a warm gesture.. Vegetarian options: Panner tikka masala will be one of the best choices for vegetarians.
Modern Indian cuisine yet true and authentic to its roots! We had the lamb biryani, lamb Rogan Josh, and garlic naan. The lamb Rogan Josh was definitely something new I ve never had before and full of flavour. The biryani was good too and so was the naan. The only complaint is the portion of the food the Rogan Josh came with probably six small cubes of lamb and so did the biryani.
What a gem! We had a great time at this restaurant! The food was fantastic and the beer tower was really that! A huge tower! A little too much for two people but we were the main attraction of passers by I recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for authentic tasting food.
Went to the restaurant with my family for dinner and I had an amazing experience. Everything we ordered was really delicious and the staff were very welcoming, friendly and professional. The atmosphere was also really amazing at night which made the dinner experience even better. Overall 10/10 and I look forward to coming back for more!!
One of my fav places in Kensington Market! Love the biryani wrapped in a butter naan
The service was excellent. Everyone is so friendly. The food is delicious and there were many options to choose from as a vegetarian. The restaurant atmosphere is really nice, it felt very cozy.
I was thoroughly delighted and impressed by how ingeniously they utilized a compact space to craft such a delightful ambiance. The culinary experience was exceptional, with the Paneer Makhni paired with garlic Naan standing out as a particular highlight of excellence. The manager s attentive and friendly demeanor added an extra layer of enjoyment to our dining experience, as they consistently checked in on us throughout the meal. Moreover, the presentation of each dish we ordered was uniquely captivating, enhancing the overall dining pleasure. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a wonderful dining experience or a date.
Absolutely incredible experience. The food is very flavorful and as spicy as you desire. The service is top-notch and cocktails are very unique and delicious. We had the mango chicken curry and spicy veggie biryani and can t recommend these enough, along with the very classy atmosphere.
