Gio Rana's Really Really Nice in Toronto

We were two for dinner on a Saturday. Service was fast and friendly to start but slowed towards the end. Our mains were rigatoni and linguini. To our taste, the pasta was underdone/too chewy. The bisque sauce was nondescript/bland. Overall, disappointing.

Absolutely Loved it! The food, the service and the hospitality. We had fun celebrating my cousins wedding dinner!!!!

The average customer is in their 30s we are older. I found the music very loud. It was hard to hear. Service was good. My choice was too spicy but still good.

Overall a good experience. Service a bit off. Big issue was No (as in ZERO) substitutions.. This definitely limited our menu selections. Loved the quirky decor. If you have allergies or other dietary restrictions, Id pass.

Gio Ranas NOT Really Really Nice Was a really good place before Covid that is no longer the case. The servers are rude, snobby and not customer oriented. Retraining needs to be done as an investment from management. There are so many more better Italian restaurants in the east end for you to afford to continue this business approach. Yesterday upon opening when it wasnt even busy, we were treated rudely by a server (50s male) after being frequent customers here. He loudly and rudely claimed they can not serve us because we have a stroller. Not offering solutions and when he was called out started being even more rude about it. Saying we are misconstrued his words... how can we misconstrue we cant accomodate a stroller in an empty restaurant Then after all this suddenly saying we can close the stroller and pack it really tight. So can we or cant we? This is in leslieville... its common for families to come by. Physically if you dont have the ability to accommodate put a sign outside and say it appropriately and with service. We decided not to stay because obviously the service and accommodation is not there. We even offered to place it outside as a solution. They werent willing to work with us. So PSA for families and customers with accessible needs or even day to day diners that expect decent manners and service... not the place to go. So many other places. Kid-friendliness: Not

The food here is fantastic! I ve ordered several dishes here but my absolute favourite is cacio e pepe! They have lovely cocktails here too and the music is great too. Every experience here has been enjoyable; highly recommend and will go back!

We went there to have dinner, overall good experience. The food is good (we took one antipasti + 2 secondi for 2 it was the right amount). Risotto balls (good) Ossobocu (excellent, the sauce is +++) A special just for day, it was pork belly quite good. The ossobuco was by far the best realisation. The atmosphere is nice either, we were on the second room (way better than the principal one as it s very loud), only remark is that it s too dark even if they do it on purpose to create an atmosphere. My only point is it s a little bit expensive for the quantity, but not egregious either. I will come back without hesitation.

All the food at Gios is so lovely and the staff are such friendly folks. You wont be disappointed with dinner, just be aware the music is a bit louder than we would like (an excellent playlist though) so if you prefer a softer sounding environment Id recommend grabbing take out or their patio!

GREAT good! Great ambience!!! Id like to recommend them to add some vegetables or any carbs to their Osso Bucco dish. Its delicious but needs something to pair it with! GREAT TIRAMISU

Gio s (or the Nose) is one of the best Italian restaurants in Toronto and has been around since 1989! They only take reservations for groups of 5 or more, so if you want a table make sure to get there early or line up! I always get the Butternut Squash-stuffed House-made Crespelle, which is literally HEAVEN on a plate. We also get the Tuscan Fries (which are also delicious) as a side, to help me catch all of the delectable sauce in the crespelle! The atmosphere is hip-happening and is a great slice of Toronto nightlife! It gets very loud and they do blast a lot of banger hits! The service has always been great and the servers are very attentive and understanding. The bartenders are also so sweet and accommodating as they offered to make me a custom mock-tail since I was the designated driver! It gets busy very quickly however, and there is usually a line after 7:00pm! This place is great for taking your date out, or with a group of friends. I couldn t recommend Gio s more! Vegetarian options: The have a few vegetarian options on the menu. Dietary restrictions: The servers and cooks are willing to help accommodate any dietary restrictions.

This is our favourite Italian restaurant. The menu is simple but lovely. We always order the frittura and focaccia to start, and are slowly eating our way through the mains. My favourite so far is the mezzi rigatoni

What can I say that hasnt been said a million times about this place? Delicious, inviting, great service and wonderful vibes. We love this place so much! This is a local recommended restaurant we were happy to try. They do Italian cuisine. Their food is delicious. I had the Ossobuco and I recommend it to anyone. The ambiance is very unique. From the giant nose at the entrance to the interior decor, this place has a lot of character. They do have certain weird rules like you can only give one single order, so what you order is what you get.

Chloe served us and was amazing. We re usually pretty easy going but with a great human taking care of us it makes it even easier to just go with the flow and have a great time. Space is beautiful and cozy. Food was so tasty. My fav was rigatoni and carpaccio. If getting the burrata please get the focaccia.

Was blessed to attend a classy top-tier wedding here just the other night. This restaurant is fantastic in every way. The food is delightful, the staff are superb and it just has this complete homey feel that makes you feel like you re not even in Toronto anymore, but have been transported to your Italian relative s home directly in Italy - I don t even have Italian relatives and it still felt like that. I simply didn t want the night to end and would have happily moved in here. I have to give a very special shout out to Jellé (I know I m very likely spelling that wrong so I apologize), but she is AT LEAST one of the top 3 servers I ve had in my entire life. She was so attentive, so kind, and just made the whole experience so fantastic. If you are Gio s reading this, please promote her or give her a raise or do whatever you can do because she s a special one. Can t wait to go back - you re doing it right!

Very interesting and unique atmosphere. Loved it! Kinda kinky. The service was great. Our server helped us to pair wine with the dishes. The food was great too! They have good pastas. The desserts were okay, though. Definitely coming back when in the area again!

I had an incredible birthday dinner here last night! The food was perfect and the service was warm. Plus, somehow the playlist was one classic hit after the next. We had the beets, foccacia, risotto balls, linguine pescatore and bolognese. The outdoor patio is so cute! Perfect for an atmospheric dinner. Also affordable prices! Loveeee!

Pasta was amazing - seafood pasta with lobster bisque was so good. Gnocchi was also good but the seafood pasta was my fav. Shared some burrata and focaccia with a friend and the tiramisus at the end was phenomenal

I finally got to try Gios after hearing about it for years and it DEFINITELY lived up to the hype. What a cool atmosphere, not pretentious, really comfortable, and the staff are the same. Enjoyed beef carpaccio, delicious, saucy rigatoni with sausage, and the salmon was wonderful - crispy skin and tender inside. The Schnozz cocktail was terrific, too. Cant wait to go back.

Went with some friends ordered three antipasti, our own primis, and shared a secondi and a contorni. Overall, amazing service and very tasty food. Our server was prompt, friendly, and provided great recommendations. The kitchen courses out our food perfectly so we could enjoy conversation and our drinks. I loved that it just felt seamless and we were completely taken care of! Highly recommend!

Im so sorry.. I really want to give you guys a good review. My partner and I waited so long to try this place, and we saved it for a special night, and we thought that it was going to be really, really nice. However when we arrived we are sat in the patio which actually was a set of fold up Dollar Store chairs and tables set on a concrete pavement beside the restaurant next to where the garbage and recycling disposal is. The tables had cheap 70s Dollar Store tablecloth.. I dont know if Id even call it that plastic sheeting on top of each one. We kind of looked past this and thought maybe it was some vintage look theyre going for and appreciated that we got to sit outside despite there being space inside. The menu had a lot going on. we ordered a variety of appetizers and Mains, and honestly, everything was subpar at best.. sorry. The arancini was not cooked properly on the inside the pasta the tomato sauce tasted like it was out of a jar and overcooked to the point where it was better everything was in weird large portions looked messy on the plate and seasoning was very unacceptable for a sit-down restaurant of any quality. The quality of the food was very low and I just kept feeling surprised and disappointed at what I was being served when I was thinking that this place was supposed to be really really nice especially after the wealth of really nice reviews. Im sorry but I would not eat here again... they were just so many issues, and it seemed like a systemic problem of how they were making the food rather than any one small thing. I hope that theyre able to revamp their menu and move around their kitchen stuff and get a new chef to really overhaul the quality of the food, the seasoning, the menu, the plating, the atmosphere of the restaurant.

We hosted a surprise birthday party in the vault and had an incredible time. Service was great, and the restaurant was in constant communication with me throughout the planning process. The room is cozy and charming, and the food was great (and plentiful). I loved the ambience and would recommend to anything looking to do something fun for a special occasion. Amazing Italian, has become one of our favourite places for a casual or trendy dinner! Their special are amazing, possibly the best vegetarian lasagna in the city. As well the steak and veal are perfect! Carpaccio, burrata and arancini were also amazing! And dessert was fantastic. Everything here is not just above average, it s some the best Italian in the city, if not the best. Busy and bustling vibe, they take resos for 6+ ppl only and also have walk-ins. A beautiful restaurant. Family run for over 30yrs. Food was delicious at reasonable prices. Full of locals enjoying a Friday night dinner with a line up at the door. They really dont need this review but happy we discovered this gem.

Over the past couple of years I ve ordered from here a handful of times now and one thing I can contest to is how consistent and high quality the food is even for delivery orders. Quality ingredients, hot and fresh, generous portions, great price, sustainable packaging. That alone wows me, not to mention how tasty and well executed they are. Some of the best pasta dishes I ve tried in the city so far. 10/10 would recommend.

Passed this restaurant many times. Saw the reviews and informed the wife. She gave the green light to try it out, and not disappointed at all. The food was fantastic, from the appetizers, to the main course to the dessert. And the wine was perfect too. Only thing I could say was a downsize, was that its dark in the restaurant, so hard to read the menu, and music was just a tad louder then needed. But I knew that going in, having read that in other reviews. So it still wont sway me from going back again

However, the Tuscany fries left something to be desired, as they were unfortunately too moist for our liking. The burrata with red sauce presented a delightful contrast of textures and flavors, showcasing the kitchen s creativity. On the flip side, the gnocchi failed to impress, lacking the lightness and flavor that characterizes exceptional gnocchi dishes. The tagliatelle bolognese was a comforting choice, delivering the familiar flavors one would expect from this classic dish. Finally, the cremini mushroom and roasted walnut tagliatelle stole the show with its decadent combination of earthy mushrooms and crunchy walnuts, leaving a lasting impression. While our experience was mixed, The Nose certainly has potential, and we would be willing to give it another try in the future.

The food was solid! We had the Burrata, giant meatball, the butternut squash pasta and mushroom pasta and it was all delicious. Very solid Italian food at a good price point. Service was great and the atmosphere was nice!

Great restaurant 5 stars Food - quality was great, fresh ingredients and cooked with care. The 3 items we tried were a seafood pasta, a seafood appetizer and their mushroom pasta. They were all very satisfying. Price - very reasonable. I never felt price gouged reading any of the items in the menu, very fair pricing. This ones important considering some Toronto restaurants will charge $30+ for pasta dishes without any protein included. Atmosphere - artsy and stimulating, many pictures, lights and decorative pieces to look at with a dimmed atmosphere. Nice for a date or chat with close friends and family. Will definitely return and compliments to all the staff who work there for contributing to a great night

Tried their some of their classics and they were amazing but the dish that stood out the most was their Beets Gnocchi that was on special. It was mind blowing.

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! I had one of the best New Year s Eve dinner (cenone di capodanno ) ever! I started organizing this party for a group of 30 friends back in October, for the upcoming New Year s Eve party. Gavin helped us in every step, making us feel comfortable, and most importantly allowed us to have the party we desired, with Live Music and Karaoke! Food and Service was astonishing, guests super happy. What else to say if you are thinking of going to Gio Rana you will not be disappointed! They are definitely on the top of my list, when it comes to restaurant party!

Really liked the ambiance and the service. We ordered Risotto balls, Pappardelle, Tiramisu and Focaccia bread. Everything was perfect. Atmosphere was comforting with dim lights and candle light. Taste was really nice, price is little higher side if compared with quantity however really worth the taste and service.

We arrived here without a reservation and asked the host if it was possible to get a table. He let us know that there currently wasnt a table but we were first on the waiting list. He offered to seat us at the bar immediatly , but we said if we are first on the list we will wait for a table as it shouldnt take long. We proceeded to wait over an hour before leaving to go elsewhere. There were people arriving constantly and being seated. I understand that we did not have a reservation, I was just very disappointed in the communication by the staff. If we would have been told from the start that we were first on the list, but there were a lot of reservations and it might be awhile, I wouldnt have an issue.

Finally got to try Gios and I was really impressed! The food was delicious and I loved the ambience of the restaurant (unpretentious, just the way I like it). Prices were decent too! My ranking of the food we ordered: 1) Crespelle: this was super unique and was like a hybrid between a crepe and a ravioli. The pasta was perfectly al dente and buttery, and the butter sage sauce paired with the squash filling made everything come together sooo well. A very umami and satisfying dish for the taste buds! 2) zucchine pasta: this had a slightly sweet flavour which was pleasantly different. I also enjoyed the pairing of pistachio 3) focaccia: we ordered two loaves do I need to say nore? 4) Pappardelle: let s just say all the pastas were peroal dente. And you can t go wring with a good pappardelle! This was creamy and rich. 5) Burrata: can t go wrong with a good burrata, especially when paired with such a delicious red pesto Looking forward to going back here, it s now on my list of go-to s

I m disgusted with myself that I ve lived in Leslieville for 2 years but have never tried this place before. Lovely service, relaxed atmosphere, and great food. Oh and the meatball was sensational.

Gorgeous space, we sat in a little private nook by an old safe. Loved the privacy and vintage vibe, but 4 stars because the wall beside us was actually so dirty. Like not rustic old paint, just food spillage. Food and drinks were delicious and well presented. Smaller portions in some dishes but left feeling perfect satiated and happy!

I love the Brussels sprout slaw; its so crispy and has a great combination of sourness and cheese! The Involtini, Ossobuco, and Papardelle are all amazing! A few caveats: Crespelle: I love the chewiness and the squash in the pasta crepe, but one of the crepes was overcooked, making it taste crispy instead of chewy. Risotto Balls: I enjoyed the flavoring, but some of the rice was undercooked. Tuscan fries: they were soggy when I had them in person (its understandable if they became soggy during takeout). Overall, I would come back again because the price point is so reasonable for the portion!

Food, service, and atmosphere were excellent. Minus 1 star for not having a single vegan pasta option and also not allowing any substitutions. One of our friends had a hard time finding anything that was dairy-free, and although the server was excellent in trying to find out the ingredients in the dishes, the end result was a lackluster spaghetti aglio e olio with raw chili peppers (?). Everything else we ordered was fantastic. Negroni was top notch, espresso martinis tasted like boozy iced cappuccinos and the Tom Selleck tasted like a vacation

Gourmet Italian and Cool vibe!

Delicious delicious delicious!! One of the best pasta Ive had in Toronto. I ordered it via Uber Eats. I got foccacia bread, paperdelle pasta and fennel sausage pasta. Paperdelle pasta is a must try.

The food was hot and tasty yet simple for a vegetarian order. I managed to drop my food on the street while riding my bike and the packaging didnt explode so +1 for the packaging! My family s favourite restaurant! Recommend ordering a bunch of dishes and sharing. Must haves are the giant meatball, beet salad and mushroom pappardelle. All the desserts are incredible - can t pick a favourite, and staff are amazing - so attentive and friendly!!

I was recommended this restaurant by multiple people, so I finally decided to try it. Overall, it s a great place. The ambiance is on point, the food is delicious. We got there around 6pm and waited about 30 mins for a table. The restaurant is a bit crowded inside with all the tables, not a lot of room to get out comfortably if you re sitting on the inside. The only reason for the one start deduction was due to service. It was a bit all over the place and didn t feel like we were taken care of. I would definitely return to try other items off the menu. I would hope they would have a pasta special.

No substitutions, I wouldn t mind if the level of arrogance matched the food. Thought the food was mediocre at best, ok drinks, overrated.

Making reservations was easy, the food was great, service was lovely. I wish there was more light and less noise. Our group had a good time.

I don t usually leave reviews but this place deserves it. I ordered takeout through SKIP and the food came extremely quick, hot and fresh. We ordered the; beets, butternut squash pasta, ossobuco and burrata. I work as a Chef for 10 years and I cannot understate how proper every dish was made. Zero skimping on expensive ingredients like butter/cream and cheese. Incredible flavours, seasoned perfectly and well-executed technique - the kitchen knows their stuff. The sauce didn t even break in travel. It s very rare to find a sense of value when you eat out in toronto - average price per plate is so high everywhere. I thought the prices were extremely fair here and honestly, I d pay more for the quality. Great place 10/10. Would over-eat again.

When go out for dinner. I dont order anything I can make at home . Fed me spaghetti worse than I can make was a something that should not happen

Great restaurant for a casual or even romantic meal. The staff have always been attentive and the food has been consistently good. The nose makes it famous in Toronto.

I left disappointed because the food did not live up to its Google reputation. Meatball - delicious and very tender. Good tomato sauce. Fried seafood - generic tasting, not necessarily bad. Focaccia - tasted like it was made by a child who took bread out of the fridge and forgot to reheat it thoroughly. It is very dense, dry and not made fresh. Ordered 3 to the table, all came out cooler than room temperature. I sent one back advising of the update and it was replaced with another cold, stale bread. Seafood pasta - lots of shells, very little protein. Pasta was dried out at the corners, likely due to pasta being cooked before dinner service and reheated upon ordering. Unfortunately it was not reheated properly. Tomato sauce was very delicious though. Ambience is too loud, very difficult to hold conversation. Otherwise very stylish and trendy spot. Overall, this place doesnt need my feedback since it appears to be regularly busy. But I personally would not recommend as management cuts too many corners with food.

Celebrated my husbands birthday with lots of friends. Service was impeccable. Really impressive especially since we were a large group. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. Ambience was upbeat, relaxed and perfect for a Saturday night celebration. Everything was perfect.

Second time I ve been here and have to say, solid 3 stars. Service is good, but the food is definitely what you pay for. Mid. Also strict rules on ordering. 1 bill for the table (fine), for some reason not able to order appies without ordering our mains at the same time, ( a new one) .

Food, atmosphere, and service were all impeccable. Zach really made our night. Although we live in Etobicoke, the drive is well worth it. We will include this as a new regular spot often.
