The food here is amazing, but the hosts really don t seem well-trained. There s one host who s been around forever, and she always puts me at the worst table, no matter how busy it is.

The service was amazing! The servers went out of their way to make my family feel welcome and comfortable. They gave us great food suggestions, shared some funny jokes, and even made sweet small talk, asking how we were doing and where my family was from in Italy. The tiramisu was my favourite, it was absolutely perfect! It was such a lovely experience overall and I know it made my uncles birthday feel special.

Awful service, I tried to order a gift card for $500. I filled out their form, followed up several times by phone and email and heard nothing. Very disappointing as it was for a wedding gift.

Sotto Sotto is hands down one of my favorite restaurants. The service is consistently excellent, and the food is always delicious. I first discovered this gem about eight years ago when a client took me there, and I ve been a regular ever since. I love the staircase with its wall full of photos it adds so much character. On my last visit, I even sat across from Drake! The owner is warm and welcoming, and the servers are fantastic, taking the time to walk through the menu and explain each dish with a genuine smile. The portions are generous, and the entire place is spotless.

Fantastic place with classy settings, i recommend the carbonara pasta, super creamy tasty and rich. However the star of the show was Gil, he gave us an amazing service and was super professional and friendly!!

For the reviews and reputation of this place, I was actually shocked by how bland the food was. Meatballs tasted like they were from the grocery store, Caesar salad was poor, the pasta was just okay. My cheesecake was as frozen at the bottom so it was really hard to eat. Our waiter was really good and very nice which is why this got a 2/5. Save your money and go to Guilietta or Bar Vendetta, cheaper and better.

I visited here with my friends for a special occasion - Birthday. It is an impressive restaurant. Pretty upscale. Delicious food. Great service. Portion sizes were small. We ordered a lot of food. Their desserts are good, not excellent. But overall, it was a great experience. A very busy restaurant.

Nutella Tiramisu is truly a must-try. Its simply divine and hands down the best Ive ever had!

Definitely one of my faves. Order the Adam Silver- it s huge, and it s not on the menu. It s a large portion of chopped sautéed vegetables with beans. Start with a salad and you can order an appetizer portion of this dish, and it s definitely big enough as a main course.

Terrible attitude on the phone when taking about a reservation. Terrible and disgusting. I know you don t care about customers because you are always booked but I will never ever come there and will make sure none of my contacts do either. And funny enough I used to come there with colleagues.

I came in from the states, When I walked in Nick the store manager was very welcoming, amazing guy the food is great. I definitely will be coming to Toronto just to have this place again.

Had a beetle insect (not a cockroach) in the food on my plate, when I told the waiter he offered me a new plating, which I declined having lost my appetite. I did not get an excuse and we were charged the full price. Otherwise the food is under Bologna average and the pricing is quite a bit over average. There are many wonderful restaurants in Bologna, choose somewhere else.

What Sotto Sotto lacks is flavour; I didnt have a poor dining experience or anything explicitly unpleasant, but the meatballs and veal lacked flavour, with the veal being drenched in oil. For the price point and what SS is trying to convey, it definitely didnt deliver.

Sotto Sotto has a warm, welcoming vibe that makes you feel instantly comfortable. The staff go above and beyond with their friendly, attentive service. I highly recommend the carbonara its absolutely to die for. Dont leave without trying the tiramisu its a must!

Everything was amazing up until dessert. We came for dinner tonight to celebrate my husband s birthday and all I asked was for a candle to be brought out with dessert. Upon receiving the dessert there was no candle. What made things worse was that 2 other tables behind us received their dessert with candles. Upon leaving I checked with the host to see if there were any reservations notes. The hostess saw my reservation and immediately apologized. That s how I knew my reservation was not communicated with my server. This was honestly very disappointing because our server was amazing, he was very attentive, and had great recommendations but not fulfilling one ask that I didn t think was hard to do was very disappointing.

The spot can t be beat always the best classic Italian dinner in the city. If you have dietary restrictions or feel like something different, always make something off the menu menu.

Loved the cozy ambiance and great traditional service. Main reason I d be back. Dishes are all traditional. Only thing we didn t like was the parking in front of the restaurant was taken up mostly by their own rentals it seemed to make it look upscale but they really don t need to do that. Kind of embarrassing. There was valet service but we do not prefer anything less than top tier professionals if we use valet as this individual is entering our personal car. He was wearing shorts and a hat unacceptable

Classic Italian fare - very good quality. Octopus was tasty but almost too tender. Nice variety of cheeses, quality charcuterie board. Seafood pasta was good. Carbonara was cloying. Steak is average and overpriced - do not recommend. Tiramisu is what you should expect. Nothing mind blowing, but good food. Our server lingered too much for our liking, but he was fine otherwise. Cocktails were delicious!

Me and my friend came here on a Monday night, was not busy at all yet the service was incredibly slow. Our server was very nice, but overall was very slow service. In terms of food, I ordered the special, a pasta, which came out crunchy. My friend got a recommended pasta that was incredibly bland and not worth the $30 price point. The pasta was obviously not homemade, so I am not sure how these items were priced. However, the worst part of this experience, was the mice that were on the back patio where we were sitting. Even though we were outside, I have never in my life seen a mouse on a patio, especially not at such an established restaurant. Overall, it is safe to say I will not be returning and I suggest you find somewhere else to have dinner.

Went here to celebrate a birthday. The food was great, and the service was also fantastic. All the food came out fast, was really food, and the waiter was super attentive and friendly. The tiramisu was also delicious, we got two. Will be returning for sure!

Very Accommodating to Film and Television Productions. I was raised in an Italian home so I rarely go to an Italian restaurant. However, when I am craving a Mushroom Risotto, no matter where I am in the city, this is where I go. Dont tell my Ma.

I came here to celebrate a friend s upcoming nuptials. I noticed how our server, Christopher was listening/ making sure we were okay constantly (ie., we casually mentioned it was cold then he came back and flagged that the A/C was turned down). I ordered the calamari and shrimp bucket which was awesome - perfectly crispy. I got the Carbonara as my main and felt immediately felt sick as it was salty. For dessert, we had the strawberry tiramisu was really delicious and fresh.

Amazing dining experience. I lived in Italy for several months and this is the closest, best Italian food I ve had back in Toronto. Personable service, just a small space :)

A staple in Toronto food scene. Italian food, wine, great staff. Really friendly and professional staff. One of the better places that take care of you. It was about 6 of us, around $1500

If you choose to dine at this restaurant, make reservations for the first floor only. The second floor is so hot and humid as to detract from the dining experience.

Celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary, simply fabulous!

We enjoyed our evening at Sotto Sotto. The food was delicious and our waiter was great. It was packed on a Thursday night when we walked in for our reservation. People were eating at the bar with about 15 people waiting to be seated. Only downside is that it is a very tight space. But food is awesome!

An exceptional dining experience

This has been on my list for awhile so Im finally checking it out. We came here for lunch and looks like they have the full menu for dinner available. We got the buratta and garden salad. It tasted fresh and Buratta cheese was pretty good. I got the seafood linguini and the tomato sauce wasnt that great. The gnocchi Alfredo sauce was pretty tasty. The strawberry tiramisu looked good so we tried it out. It wasnt bad but not amazing. Im giving it a 3 star food because of the hype, maybe the other dishes are better. The server was attentive but the food was just ok.

Good food and wine selections. It felt like a very classic Italian experience. My server was very attentive and ambience was very relaxed. Octopus was very tender. Highly recommend to try the tiramisu and cheesecake for desserts!

ABBACCHIO ALLA SCOTTADITO 10/10 Australian grilled rack of lamb w/seasoned vegetable and roast potatoes au jus 2. SOTTOS LEGENDARY TIRAMISU 10/10 Classic Tiramisu so light with a strong expresso taste. 3. POLPO ALLA PUTTANESCA 9/10 Grilled Octopus w/cherry tomatoes from Pachino, black olives, anchovies and capers 4. LAMATRICIANA 8/10 Bucatini pasta with crispy pork cheek from Amatrice, Sarawak black pepper, tomato sauce and *DOP Roman Pecorino cheese. Again all really good dishes, no real complaints. I would come back here again.

First of all, I wanna thank our FANTASTIC servant. He was great, supper welcoming with great recommendations! We got the octopus for appetizers and seafood linguine for main. The meals are mostly meat and protein which I loved. The sauces were absolutely DELICIOUS!!! And highly recommend both!!!

I had a similar experience to another patrons review from two weeks ago. When we arrived I made certain to notify the staff that it was a special celebration of my sons birthday. We were hurried out right at the hour and a half mark. Initially, our server simply mentioned bringing the bill without offering dessert. When I mentioned it was my sons birthday, again, the response was indifferent. Despite asking for gelato, which I remembered seeing on the menu, the server rattled off flavors hastily. My son chose one, but it arrived without a candle or a birthday wish. It was a significant disappointment. Considering that celebrating birthdays is expected in a restaurant, they should excel in these moments. However, they fell short. Were unlikely to return.

We drove over an hour to dine in arrived at 850pm Made a reservation for 9pm, only seated at 945. No where to sit while waiting we stood and watched a large number white people be sitted after coming in after us. The waiter was very obnoxious, spat while he talked took one of our menus and said I will be your second menu pretty much decided what we were going to eat smh. When the food finally came it wasnt filling, it was all hype, literally tasted like something you could make at home on a Tuesday afternoon.. Never go to this place. Just horrible

Seafood pasta was borderline spoiled. I was disappointed because the previous time it was delicious.

Wanted to take my girlfriend here, made a reservation for 830pm on a Friday. I arrived and was told to come back 20 minutes later. I arrived back at 850pm and the table wasn t ready. I waited until 910pm and the table was still not ready. This was a waste of my time so at this point I decided to go to a different Italian restaurant in Yorkville. The customer service wasn t doing it for me that night, I mean why take reservations if people can t be accommodated?

Delightful restaurant to celebrate a birthday. The service was excellent. We were asked to provide our full order at once so they could time delivery and keep to their strict 2 hour time limit for our seating. We were seated on the main floor at a table for 4, fortunately by the wall. Some seats were positioned by a high trafficked spot and three larger people behind us were seated at a small table without enough room to put their wine bottle. That same group ordered several lasagnas to go, which i didnt realize you could do at this restaurant - nice option. The place was somewhat loud and dark. Washrooms were nice but i thought they d provide a better soap than Dollarama brand. We ordered the carbonara, bolognese and cacio and pepe pastas. Antipasto starter with 2 extra shrimp and calamari each. Half litre of chianti, one coke, tiramisu and cheesecake. Total bill $375 including tip. The bolognese was a disappointment, noodles were overcooked. We also ordered a caesar salad but it never came.

Went with a friend for dinner, and it was amazing from the service from Chris to the food and atmosphere. It is a gem of a place to try out. The food portions were just right. Definitely leave room for the Hazelnut Tiramisu. I had the hazelnut Tiramisu when I went to NY, and having one at Sotto Sotto reminded me so much of it! I could literally just eat that alone!

Very - as the kids would say - dining experience. Menu is one dimensional. Pastas don t have protein except here and there and it s just basic shrimp and salmon. Food is under seasoned. True across the board. The bread is bland and no condiments with it. Salad - Just lettuce and oil that requires no culinary skill. Bland. Food is misportioned (and service does not help counsel). Greens salad is for 4 bit served for 1 without intervention - and to point above is very bland.

I have been there before and the food was delicious. However not this time around not sure if they changed the chef. The desert was amazing though Parking: They do have valet parking

They seem to be pretty strict with time limits though, as a dessert menu was not offered, and the bill was brought to the table at exactly an hour and a half after being seated. Unfortunately, the previously requested birthday dessert seemed to be forgotten as well, which was a shame, as another table, who were there for a similar time, got one. Their marketing states a dress code but it was not truly being followed amongst the clientele.

The food was good and I believe the quality is beyond excellent. However, I think we do have less fancy restaurants with the same taste and quality. I do think its pricey but again its downtown and its Yorkville. Also, celebs go here so it makes sense.

Very rude experience speaking on the phone multiple times in the previous week for booking a reservation. Staff act very childish for a high end restaurant, need to be trained better. We really wanted to dine here as we ve heard only good things. Unfortunately will not be visiting.

Food was amazing however the place is very unorganized and chaotic. Had reservations for 9 and only ended up getting my table at 9:30. Although the service was very good, the atmosphere and management seems to be pretty chaotic and unorganized.

Enjoyed the dishes all the way to dessert. The burrata salad was very refreshing and the octopus was particularly good.

This is the best Italian food outside of Italy I ve ever had. Service was fast and efficient. Our server Chris was very nice, informative, and attentive. The Gran Tagliere was a wonderful charcuterie board with a lot of variety. The pasta for the Linguine Allo Scoglio was cooked perfectly, there was a generous portion of seafood, and it paired well with the Pecorino wine. Tried strawberry tiramisu for the first time here and found it tasty. The only issue I had was this place was small and very busy so it was quite loud.

Reservation was hard to get so it was disappointing that the food and presentation was mid. Compared to my previous dining experience which was fantastic, every dish was lukewarm and needed more flavour. Service was still on point, but I would recommend going elsewhere for Italian.

Service is amazing as always. The food was good but felt their grilled seafood tasted much better in the past. There wasnt much char on the seafood. Will try again next time.

Went to the Oakville location to enjoy a nice lunch. I ordered the chicken scaloppini and after I started eating I found a hair in my plate. Brought to the waiters attention and he replaced it. When I received my lunch, 15 minutes later, my husband was done eating and I found myself eating alone. Not a good experience when you pay top dollar to eat at a good restaurant. To my surprise, they did not adjust the bill. Also, the chef in the kitchen hen was not wearing a hair net? I will not return.

I liked the food but they charged a ridiculously expensive price for 1 portion of fettuccine truffle pasta. I ve never paid 50$ for 1 plate of pasta, that s insane. Crowd seems to be of a different age group not very young and popping. Ive been here before but this is the last time. Not worth it, go to vagabondo or gusto501.

I am Visiting Toronto for the first time and I travel and eat out in many places globally. Based on google reviews I thought I would try Sotto . I don t see how this restaurant is rated so highly , food was terrible , basic pasta was tasteless and salad average , wine was good but we did spend $200 for the bottle. I am sure there has to be amazing places in Toronto serving good Italian cuisine ! This is overpriced and mediocre food .

I ve been going to Sotto Sotto in Toronto for many years. My last two visits in 2023 has been quite disappointing. Upon my last visit, I did something that was unusual for me and complained about the fish to the waiter. We clearly had a problem with it as it wasn t eaten. The waiter basically ignored our observation. Mentioned it to the owner on the way out, who seemed surprised initially, but then didn t really respond as well. Hence the review I promised him. It s unfortunate as Sotto Sotto was a legend, but it has definitely lost its gloss lately.

Staff needs to be trained better. Was told over email chicken is halal but at the restaurant was told it isnt. Thats disappointing and misleading. Unfortunately we were a group of people celebrating my wifes birthday so decided to stay and choose vegetarian options

Great disappointment with our recent dining experience my husband and I had at Sotto Sotto. We had high expectations given the reputation and recommendations, but unfortunately, the evening fell short in several aspects. The food, in particular, was a letdown as it was bland, lacking the flavour we anticipated from a restaurant of this caliber. Equally disheartening was the service, which mirrored the quality of the food. Our server appeared visibly annoyed and barely checked in on our table. We were never asked if we wanted another drink. My husband was handed the ground pepper shaker to apply to his dish himself, which was a surprising and disappointing experience. We have dined at far less expensive restaurants where we have encountered far better food and service. For a high-end establishment that prides itself on its reputation, our visit did not align with the standards we expected. I regret to say that we wont be returning to Sotto Sotto in future.

We celebrated our 1 year anniversary here and what a great choice. Our server Vitto was phenomenal, and the attention to detail and great chats from Geoff was the cherry on top of a fabulous evening together. We will be back for sure!

Excellent authentic Italian food for a reasonable price. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I will say the table service was pretty subpar, but the restaurant was almost full, so I understand.

The food was good. The table service was good. The kitchen service was bad. We had a long wait between the end of our appetizers & the main course being served. It was surprising since they made us order our appetizers & main dishes all at one time. And we had a simple main dish (grilled fish). I assumed the service would not be this delayed. That was disappointing for a place this pricey and with such a highly touted reputation. This was also on a Monday night so it wasnt that busy. Parking: Valet is $25 and provided by a third party.

We came here for lunch because a friend had seen a write up about the restaurant. A lot of celebs eat here. On arrival another customer was there and told us not to get too excited about the food. It was good, but not top marks. The bread came cold - and we were looked down on when we asked for balsamic vinegar. They like to serve only olive oil. But it is good olive oil. The Burrata salad was good, and the pasta tasted fresh and home made. It was a good dinner, and we enjoyed the atmosphere, but not somewhere we would be excited to return to.

Simple statement- everything is amazing !

Came here for a birthday event on a Sunday evening. The place I m guessing is dark on purpose because it s cramped and your next-table neighbours would be too noticeable if the lighting were any brighter. The food was just okay in my opinion. Our group had a couple of appetizers to share, a different pasta dish for each person to share, and a bottle of their Valpolicella Italian red wine. The pasta dishes ranged from flavourless to overpowering. The carbonara was probably the most consistent while their L amatriciana was overly tart. The wall of photos with has-been celebrities was a nice touch I suppose.

A Personal favorite. Iconic and a pleasure to visit every time. Just hoped to see a little more enthusiasm from the servers.

Had my birthday dinner there. had the gnocchi and tiger shrimp, The food was amazing but what was even better was the service. Daniel was so great and we had a wonderful evening. Will be back

Good and service were great, it s a fairly small space so seating is pretty intimate, but the table was not too small. Prices are pretty good for what you get, the grilled octopus was excellent, and pastas had a fairly generous portion size. Highly recommend the Strawberry Tiramisu! That was the highlight of the meal. There s valet parking available, and a coat check when you arrive as well.

Worst experience My recent visit to Sotto Sotto was disappointing on multiple fronts. Despite the restaurants reputation for culinary excellence, the cold temperature of the food, unwelcoming treatment due to my Asian background, and the strict no-photography policy with tons of photos on the internet. It is very strange that the staff told us that we cannot take any photos in a restaurant or even outside it. The decision to seat us at the bar despite available tables further diminished the overall experience. The staffs indifference to our concerns only added to the disappointment. Regrettably, I cannot recommend Sotto Sotto based on my negative encounter, and I hope the management addresses these issues for the benefit of future patrons.
