We were there for an office lunch. I loved the ambience and the service. In the food, I expected more bang for my buck. We ordered a pizza for the table and I ordered fungi risotto. Both were ok and I have had better fare for the same price elsewhere.

Went to this restaurant before a Taylor Swift concert. Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Good service and ambiance and walking distance to Scotiabank Centre as well as the Rogers Centre. We were a group of 20 so we ordered a bunch of dishes to share. Among the dishes we had was the Arancini, Calamari, pizza, some of the pasta and fish. Good enough that some of us will be going back in Dec before a Raptors game

Wasn t bad. They accommodated our large group well, though some mistakes here and there. I liked the spicy chicken and aracini. You should definitely add pina colada to your menu too. Food

I went to Taverna Mercatto for a date with my fiancé. Now it was hame night for Raptors, so it was busy but the atmosphere was good. Our waitress was knowledgeable but cut both of us off when we were talking and was curt and a little rude. She did not well explain the modifications made for dietary restrictions and made me second guess eating there but we decided to try it. The seafood pasta my fiancé got was good but both the mercatto bread that we ordered and my flatiron steak were very oily and over salted, to the point where I could not finish either. My fiancé even found it too salty and he adds salt to everything. All in all, we will not be coming back again.

We were well taken care of. The place is beautiful and pleasant. The bread with pesto sauce and the tiramisu were great. The linguine di mare had a good flavor but left something to be desired, the sauce was very liquid and did not adhere to the pasta.

Its a typical downtown place with a decent atmosphere (other than non-covered vent piping under the ceiling, which you normally should not be seeing in the restaurants where you pay premium price - but thats just North American reality how they do interiors in here, which sucks). As regards service - the same as in a ordinary pub, nothing special. Just are you ready to order, here your pizza and do you want more water. Price-wise - I would say too high. Your mid-size pasta Bolognese with just traces of ground meat should not be priced at CAD 23 before taxes and 18% tips that you expect.

We had a tuna tartare, seafood linguine, and a prosciutto pizza. Everything was pretty good and we ended it off with tiramisu which was great!

Pink haired tatted up waitress was a terrible server with a bad attitude. Im not exactly sure what it was tbh we all have bad days. I asked her if she recommended anything from the menu she stared at at me in shock and didnt say anything. I replied ok dont worry about it. Then she asked for drinks neither of us drink so we ordered sparkling water. Then she goes to take the table water away. I said no its good Ill drink that also. Rolled eyes was my response. Then food comes which was pretty good and we were ignored the rest of the night until I had to ask the hostess to get our bill as well had a train to catch. In spite of all that, we still gave her a $5 tip. She pulled the receipt out, looked at the tip amount scoffed and ran away... RUDE

Great restaurant, great location, reasonable prices. However, one waitress was very impatient and unfriendly!

We hit this place up right before the most chaotic airport excursion of my life. However, those looming events obviously didnt affect the preceding meal here. We got some solid plates of food, just nothing crazy authentic being right at Union. But hey, it got the job done, and it was the first time in a hot minute that I had some shoestring fries that werent overcooked, so theres that!

I was very satisfied with the very pleasant service and high quality food provided. I would like to use it again when I go to Toronto.

Had a great dinner at this restaurant Jonathan our waiter was very attentive, friendly and gave great recommendations for us wine and desserts. He went out of his way to ensure we had a great experience by asking if we want photos taken and if we wanted a reminder of when to leave as he knew he had to get somewhere after dinner by a certain time.

Very disappointed. We ordered two pasta dishes for $24 and $25 each. We got a kids size plate, with barely any pasta, meat and vegetables in it. We communicated it to to the server and he ironically replied i am not the cook here. No olive oil, bread, and highly priced. Vegetarian options: had the vegetarian pasta...it had two small pieces of eggplant and sauce.

To all the italians from an Italian daughter with her dad, food was really good, we ordered pasta and it was real italian pasta AND,REALLY IMPORTANT, THE ESPRESSO WAS A REAL ESPRESSO!!!They can customise your order as well, since I am vegan I asked for a veggie sauce and there was no problem making it and my dad ordered rigatoni alla bolognese and there was no difference with italian ones. Only thing Id suggest the restaurant to do is to bring bread as a standard when there is pasta with any sauce, we love doing the scarpetta! And for the coffee to bring sugar with it as well. For the rest super good, super fast, super nice staff! Atmosphere a bit noisy since it was super busy but they were fast nonetheless! Vegetarian options: Pizza Marinara Pasta with tomato sauce or veggie sauce

Food was great; got the caprese (which was surprisingly really good, especially with the herb oil), PEI oysters (was ok, some pieces of shell though), and pasta alla norma (which was really great, even as someone who doesnt like eggplant). Service was very friendly, and quite quick. The interior was nice, well-lit, and lively; although mildly questionable music at times. Drinks were also good, and dessert was great; tiramisu is decent, but if you get the gelato, try the vanilla flavour, its by far my favourite thing.

The Pepperoni Pizza may be my favourite of all time! The tomato sauce was super fresh, there was just the right amount of tasty pepperoni and the crust is DELICIOUS!

Had a very enjoyable and delicious experience. Sweet Island PEI Oysters were amazing! Baby Gem Ceasar Salad and paste dishes Chitarra Alla Carbonara and Alla Norma were excellent as well. Our waitress on the patio was top notch as was all the staff.

The amount of positive reviews of this place is odd. Food was very mediocre and service was terrible. Restaurant itself is nice, very rustic setting and open space. That s it. It s pretty clear now that the only reason this place exists is its proximity to Scotiabank Arena. We stopped by after a show at the convention centre. It was just after 4pm, empty restaurant, about 90% of tables were available. We didn t have a reservation and were told ALL tables would be booked within the hour and Hostess told us the bar seating was the only option. Looking back we should have just walked out but we were tired and just wanted to sit and eat an early dinner. Within the hour the restaurant, in fact, was NOT full, still multiple tables we could have sat at and finished our meal since our food came out of the kitchen with lightening speed. Well of course it did, the restaurant was EMPTY. When we spoke to the manager about the Hostess before we left ($300 later) things got even more uncomfortable. He basically never apologized and really did not handle the situation well at all because he never returned to our table after he spoke to her. Absolutely no resolution or even a sorry about that . Unbelievable. Yet believable given the lukewarm welcome we received upon entry. Never again.

We had dinner there last night before the Andrea Bocelli concert. This restaurant was highly recommended and we didn t have a reservation. We didn t have to wait long and seated at the bar. The service and food was excellent and more notably the bartender Jason was exceptional. He was attentive and as busy as he was he kept checking in. We would go back there in a heart beat and highly recommend for dinner. Thank you Jason for making it a memorable night!

Great spot. Calamari app was amazing. Gnocci was freshly made and delicious. Pizzas were decent, though nothing to write home about. Wagyu burger and fries were out of this world. Service was very fast. Highly recommended. Well be back.

I had a client recommend this restaurant as it was near the metro convention centre. What a fabulous experience! Our server Ian was so attentive- he even took a great photo of our table. The wine list was great- we had a tasty mid day rose and the best wagyu burgers! The fries were perfection!

This was supposed to be a great night with friends and instead a poor service ruines the evening. With cold food that should have been warm and with the overwhelming lack of flavor on the food, it only made us just head for the door instead of staying to enjoy the evening. This ended being one of the most negative memories I have experience in what is supposed to be a classy establishment. The waiter seemed to be upset that we asked about the wine selection, they were mostly dry wines. When asked about sweet wine, he scoffed saying we have nothing like a moscatto. We asked is they had a full bar and what liquors they had. His reply was This was not a Dive bar. The disrespect this waiter showed to us was something so outrageous it is easy to understand where a world class staff and establishment like Second City in the vicinity can find their inspiration to shine light on worst service in a restaurant. Taverna Mercado, a stellar example of how to mistreat customers and drive away business. Best in class low class!!!

We went here cause I really wanted lasagna. It was during the weekdays so no line up. The restaurant was not loud and I liked the vibe. The service was good as well and we got our drinks, appetizers and food pretty fast. We had calamari fries which was very fresh, the food was decent. When I requested for a hot sauce, they gave us their homemade fresh chili oil and OMG! that was amazing! My lasagna with the chili oil was in a different level! Make sure to request for the chili oil if you like spicy foods.

This place had some of the best service we have ever had (our waitress was Sara). Discrete, on top of things, and very accommodating of our toddler. The hostess was also very accommodating of our seating preference. Food was very very good and not over priced given the area. Will be back for sure!

ABSOLUTELY DISAPPOINTED!!! My boyfriend wanted to take me here for my birthday and made a reservation two weeks in advance. However, upon arriving to the restaurant we had learned, by the rude hostess, that our table was given away. After how we were treated our night was ruined and we can safely say we will not be trying this restaurant again in the future.

Was pretty busy and we couldn t get attended to right away which was understandable, but after that everything was perfect. Our server Fernando was excellent, and the food was delicious and well-portioned. Made for a great date night! Will absolutely be coming back

In town for the NHL Allstar weekend. As an Ex Toronto Maple Player, staying at the Marriot next door. Looked like a nice restaurant from the outside, food was nice and atmosphere was great UNTIL we had a visit from a RAT that ran down the wall behind our booth. We moved ourselves immediately and notified the staff. What I found disturbing was the Manager nor any staff members acknowledged the incident. So we asked for the bill and capped our bottle of wine and left. Will NEVER return. Disappointed & disgusted.

Hosted friends before a Raptor game. Their team accomodated us in the semi-private room connected to main dining room with a family platter style menu. On time for the game. The food portions were very generous and very authentic italian. Whether out for a casual or more formal option before a leaf or raptor game, this is my favorite spot as the parking underground in the delta and one block walk is so convenient. Thanks to staff for a great nite out.

The food is pretty good for the price. Definitely one of the better places in the city. I got the lasagna and it tasted so fresh, the flavours and seasoning was well balanced. My partner got the squash pasta and it was so well balanced in flavours and textures. The service could be improved.

Please take into account the food was covered by my work, so I have no concept of the prices. But I arrived first and was pleasantly greeted and seated. Our server asked me for a drink and I chose a raspberry cocktail which promptly arrived and was extraordinarily delicious. I should have ordered a second. However the team arrived and we selected an assortment of food, including a piece of lasagne which I devoured. We had salad, prosciutto, cheese, fries, and more and all of it was spectacular. Id go back in a heartbeat. The atmosphere was very relaxing and I think we stayed for almost 3 hours. We really enjoyed ourselves. Parking: Its downtown, just pay the 25$. Otherwise take transit as its right by Union

Great service and great tasting food. We had a lovely work meal here and our server was absolutely wonderful. She kept us well stocked with drinks and was very happy to recommend things and share her thoughts on the various food options.

Disappointing. The food was mediocre and the drinks were severely overpriced for the quality. Our service was poor, the speed was sluggish on a slow night. There are better options for the price, the entirity of our experience was just overpriced mediocrity.

3.5 its decent, not bad but doesnt taste very authentic FOOD: I was wondering why everything taste so asian, taste like my ...asian moms food. Then I looked into the kitchen and I saw everyone in there is asian. Polpette: I was shock at first bite. It was not bad, but I did not like the seasoning so much. And its small, only 1 meatball. Ricotta Gnocchi: deccent but quite small, texture was nice, you definitely need to order something else to go with it. Pan sear Lasagna: my least favorite, its a deconstructed lasagna, and the pasta was ...crispy. Seem creative but I dont think its a successful one. Affogato: its pretty good, nice espresso and decent ice cream. SERVICE: decent, nothing to complain VIBE: feels more like a pub, they have booths so it feels quite private.

Taverna Mercatto offers great and reliable Italian food. I also love the fact that they rotate the menu. Today I was more adventurous with the bacon wrapped sea bass. Went to Taverna Mercatto on a week night before the basketball game. It was just a minute or two from Union Station so that was perfect for us. Casual atmosphere was nice to get out of the cold. Burrata was awesome. Service was great and the pasta was good. Our seating was limited to 90 minutes which was a bit frustrating but I get it - it was before the Raps game so they probably had a ton of reservations for 6. Would return.

I had a great time here on new years Eve. My server was great we knew a few of the same people because we worked at the keg. I forget her name. Hanna? Blonde tall and gorgeous. She was great. Food was tasty as well.

I was looking for a nice restaurant for a friends birthday. Taverna is steps away from union station. The restaurant interior is modern, clean, well decorated. The menu is small and focused. The prices are surprisingly affordable for a core Toronto establishment. The food unfortunately was mediocre at best. I am not sure why they advertise chef and executive chef with such mediocre dishes but to each their own. The best part of the evening was our waiter Johnathan, he handled himself well with a large area. He was attentive and more importantly took initiative. He overheard our conversation and instinctively brought over items before we even asked. He transformed this mediocre experience to something memorable. Kudos to the restaurant manager for hiring excellent staff.

The restaurant was great, good food, good atmosphere and good service.

This was a lovely place for a holiday get-together with a very good menu that can accommodate vegetarians and meat-eaters alike! They also have delicious mocktails for those don t or can t drink alcohol. Highly recommended! Vegetarian options: I had the ricotta gnocchi dish and it was delicious, filling but not too filling. Although it has simple ingredients, everything tasted fresh and well balanced!

Great atmosphere Great food Food

We visited Taverna today. We visited around 3 pm without reservations and the staff helped us to find a seat. It was not crowded. The staff is so humble. We had veg pizza and lasagna here. Lasagna was delicious. We ordered Tiramisu for dessert. Tiramisu is a must try. I must say the ambience of this restaurant is very cozy. I highly recommend it.

Absolutely best dining experience we have ever had. The food was delicious, especially the lasagna and the fries, the ambience was perfect. But the truly great part was the service. Seriously, if I could give the service 10 stars, I would. Our waiter, Ian, was superb. Recommended great food and drinks, went out of his way to accommodate our gluten-free friend and get her something she would love (even before he knew it was her birthday dinner) and was very friendly. Definitely will come back next time Im in the city.

Had an early dinner at Taverna Mercatto with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary before going to the Raps game. Jonathan was our server and he was amazing! We told him we were celebrating our anniversary and he surprised us with 2 glasses of champagne. Such a sweet gesture and lovely surprise. We enjoyed the calamari, fresh tagliatelle & the bolognese. Everything tasted incredible and came out in a timely manner. I also tried the espresso martini and it was the best one I ve tried so far. Lastly, we tried the flourless chocolate cake- it was more like a brownie but nonetheless still delicious. You won t be disappointed if you decide to dine here!

Was feeling a tad under the weather. Ordered the soup and it was just perfect. had the $10 side of bread;dry but it was heated & healthy w/ a side of Olive oil. My plus one had the lasagna and enjoyed it although the portion was small we def enjoyed ourselves. Sparkling water was a nice touch. Waiter was excellent. Was seated rt away by hostess thank you awesome service
