Authentic Italian spot, nestled in a cozy exposed brick space that offers outdoor seating.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Trattoria Taverniti. I ordered the dish "Gnocchi Gorgonzola" and it was delicous. I cannot recommend it enought. The flavors were beautiful and savory. Highly recommend trying this little gem of a restaurant.
This is a cute little spot in Little Italy! The place itself is small but has a pretty good atmosphere. The service was fast and food was overall very tasty. I found the pizza dough a little too doughy but the topping combo was great. My pasta dish was okay; the pasta stuck together and would have benefitted from more sauce. The portion could also have been slightly larger. Gnocchi was also ordered at my table and was well received.
Trattoria Taverniti is so far my favourite Italian restaurant in Toronto. Their pastas are incredible and fresh, I absolutely love the sauces their offer and their pizza is out of this world. I took my mom here for her birthday and she was so happy! The staff were able to accomodate for the birthday as well and treated us very well! I would definitely come back one day.
It looks like any new attempt at an Italian restaurant today. Brick walls, bottles on walls, Italian signs yah know Italian restaurant stuff. That aside super clean and pleasent vibe, energy was great from amazing staff. Polite and positive, joking with each other and smiling like they don't hate their lives. My pasta was awesome ( sausage spicy something) and the wife's gnocchi with walnuts was a nice unique take. Coffee was good and light tiramisu would strongly recommend. Overall very nice, I'd go back if I was in the area but not out of my way and no real uniqueness to drive me there. 5 stars was all the staff, amazing work!!!
What a pleasant surprise! Cozy atmosphere, delicious food, and great service. The menu has plenty of options, including pasta, pizzas, and the fantastic lasagna!! 🤤 Be sure to make a reservation—it's reservation only, so don’t risk showing up without one‼️
I had this place on my list since they only specialized in primarily gnocchi which was a few years ago - luckily, as per their server, "our best gnocchi dish is still on the menu!" TLDR: Food is well made, seasoned perfectly, servers are friendly and knowledgeable of their offerings, and I am keen to return. Also, for where they are located, the pricing is quite reasonable seeing as the portions are generous too. Even on a good day, it takes me almost 2 hours just to get to this place by transit but it is so worth it. I had the misfortune of getting derailed by a religious parade that incorrectly informed the city of which streets the parade would venture down so it ended up taking me 3 hours to get there instead 🫠 Still worth it, but I had to request the server recommend their stiffest drink to me because of the aforementioned. Onto the things we consumed! -[NEGRONI] $14.00 🍸 Negronis are definitely the stiffest drink they have since it is entirely made from liquor: dry gin, sweet vermouth and bitters, then garnished with orange 🍸 This was exactly what I needed so 10/10 recommendation from the server 🍸 Not for the kind of people who are looking for a sweet cocktail as this tastes exactly like what you think three liquors mixed together would haha -[GNOCCHI GORGONZOLA] $23.00 🥔 Homemade hand rolled potato dumplings in creamy gargonzola sauce with crushed walnuts, black pepper (it is also vegetarian!) 🥔 THIS is the dish the server said is their best gnocchi dish, and I have to agree with her 🥔 I was skeptical about whether walnuts would work in this dish but wow, the added flavor/texture truly elevated the dish - adding pepper flakes was good too! -[DOMENICO] $22.00 🍕 Pizza made with tomato sauce, n’duja, hot soppressata, mushrooms, finished off with a pesto drizzle 🍕 The pizza is pretty large, and packed with ingredients so this is what I mean by it is worth every penny 🍕 The menu seems to have marked this as a hot pizza in spice level probably due to the soppressata but I like spice so it was delicious to me -[POLPETTE] $16.00 🟤 Homemade meatballs (3) served with pomodoro sauce 🟤 The meatballs are pretty hefty, but they remain juicy, and well cooked despite their size 🟤 The pomodoro sauce is flavorful to a point where I inquired about ordering bread as to not waste the sauce 🤣 -[POLENTA CHIPS] $17.00 🌽 Crispy and golden fried polenta fingers topped with pecorino and served with gorgonzola cheese fondue (this is vegetarian!) 🌽 Oh my goodness, the polenta chips are so crispy on the outside, yet soft and tender on the inside 🌽 The sauce the chips are served on really ended up causing me to order bread because it was absolutely scrumptious! -[BREAD] $3.00 🍞 Came with five pieces of lightly toasted bread that had olive oil drizzled on it 🍞 No idea if they make their own bread or where they source it from but it was really good 🍞 Highly recommend you order some because it's even good just eating it plain but certainly better to ensure not a drop of sauce goes to waste -[N'DUJA E STRACCIATELLA] $16.00 🍞 Toasted calabrese bread with a spicy pork sausage spread, stracciatella cheese, topped with drizzled honey 🍞 The first bite of this was honestly a bit jarring as I was not expecting how sweet it was going to be 🍞 Once you realize the sweetness is part of the experience though, this combination of flavors becomes an absolute pleasure to consume - the ingredients almost tasted like they were only meant to be consumed together -[VENEZIA] $20 🍕 Pizza made with tomato sauce, red onions, gorgonzola, and proscuitto crudo 🍕 I loved the cook of the pizza this time because the previous time, the crust was a little bit too charred for my liking (I know the oven for pizzas can be quite difficult to control) 🍕 This combination is delicious especially with chili flakes, and chili oil on it 🤭
I went here with expectation of finding great pizza and it didn’t disappoint. The pizza was great.. However the pasta was ok..so was the calamari..bit on the chewy side The restaurant has a rustic feel to it. The washrooms were dingy and best avoided
First time visit and without a reservation on a Monday evening. So happy they were able to accommodate us (table for 2) as we were celebrating an anniversary. The decor of the restaurant is really rustic and cozy, perfect for a date night. The food was delicious and you can tell that it is all homemade. We had the gnocchi and ravioli as well as the Caesar salad and calamari to start. The tiramisu was also very yummy, light and fluffy. Service was also great, we didn’t wait too long for our food even though it was a full house. Can’t wait to return to try their other food options, everything on the menu sounded delicious. Would definitely recommend but make a reservation in advance.
A great plate of cabonara. Well done al dente pasta. Creamy tomato sauce thats just right. I just wish the quantity was more.
Meh. It s definitely gone down hill since mama Rosa passed away. The place used to be packed all the time. The food was hot, fresh and delicious. No longer the case. Our Arancini were stone cold in the middle. Obviously pre-made and reheated. They brought us another plate and made sure it was hot the next time - but it shouldn t have happened to begin with. Pre-made is pre-made. And it shouldn t be. The pasta was uninspired. I m not writing this review after just one disappointing experience - but after the 3rd. I kept coming back hoping it was a temporary breakdown and that they d get their act back together - but sadly I don t hope for this anymore. We ve been loyal patrons for years but I think our run is done.
Enjoyable little date spot on college! The food was good, and the service was alright given that it wasn t super busy, however the wait times weren t bad at all and our food came quick! I had the spaghetti carbonara, my boyfriend had the chicken Parmesan, and we shared a Caesar salad, all were amazing however the spaghetti portion was a bit small. I recommend this spot!
This place feels like you re stepping right into Italy. Their pasta is amazing but our favourite is their pizza. Friendly service and kind staff, but it fills up fast so get there early! (And by early I mean 5PM when they open haha) Thanks for the amazing times last year! Food
Came in late with my husband to which i was surprised they were still serving dinner which is exactly what we needed. THE BEST PAST WE EVER HAD! Everything was made in house im pretty sure and if not, definitely gave a warming and cozy feeling to our dinner. Loved it !
I love this place!! Excellent pasta dishes and great Caesar salad!! Tiramisu is delicious! Love the atmosphere and such friendly service!!
Casual and excellent!
Wonderful experience! The food was simple and delicious, the atmosphere is so cozy and our server was so friendly and warm. One of the best tiramisus I ve ever had. Perfeto!
Follow @bredgyeats for more food reviews and posts! A best of both worlds with the cracker-like crispy undercarriage and a bubbly chewy crust that isnt something you can throw away. The nduja and soppressata are big umami bombs, delightfully balanced with a touch of sweetness and brininess of the honey and olives
It used to be a really good spot with delicious Italian food but now the quality of food has definitely gone down. The service was also not that great. Our server pretty much ignored us the entire time. They now have merged the two locations into one with the exact same menu but yet they are not advertised as one.
Very comfortable spot with authentic food all made in house and fresh. Sat by the window which was very nice seeing people walk by.
Have been here several times in past with good experience and it s a wonderful atmosphere. However went back yesterday and service was lacking to say the least. The table cloth was dirty and instead of cleaning it with a cloth the server just used her hand to wipe off crumbs but it was still dirty. Took 30min for drink order to come which was bottle of wine twist off lid. The server turned lid of bottle then walked away, we ended up opening the wine ourself she came back about 5min later with a wine opener which was not needed as it was a twist off. We poured our own wine which is fine but not the norm in a restaurant. No ice for wine at table. No one offered specials or dessert. My spouse pasta was very good and tasty. My pizza lacked cheese and toppings ie only 3 olives for the whole pizza. The server first came out with wrong pizza which I touched and pulled apart then she realized it was the wrong one and still served it to the other guest despite me touching it.
Good food, great service and cute Italian vibe. Pizza was delicious
I came to the restraunt December 2023 and then came back again today and have noticed a complete decline in the service and the quality of food. Waited over half an hour to receive 3 drinks. The pasta was over cooked and my friends AND my pasta came with hair in it. Disgusting dont dine here. Would not recommend
I love College St and wanted to try this place as it was always busy and the menu looked great. Unfortunately, it fell super short on all levels. Food - basic Italian, nothing special at all Service was terrible! Our server told our order and brought our bill, nothing in between. I would have ordered more wine if she came around, would have loved some more water or even to ask how our meal was but she was no where to be found. Atmosphere. - I love College St but this place is very basic dining. Other than the location the restaurant itself offers no atmosphere. Disappointing! There are much better options on College, I wouldn t be back! Unfortunately!
Outstanding pizza. Had the Anthony with prosciutto fig jam gorgonzola it was amazing. Great service. Only wish the pasta was a little warmer in temperature But overall a great place for pizza and pasta dishes
Omg the handmade pasta and the sauce is to die for
The food totally distastes . Its not a Italian food . No recommended.
Food was okay, I really enjoyed. But the service was pretty bad. Not an italian restaurant service, it was fast food restaurant service. Very disappointed cause i was excited to come here. they were pushing to serve the pizza while im still eating pasta. Since our table was small, so I had to eat fast my pasta cause server was holding pizza and waiting for me to finish the pasta. And nobody asked how s the food or check us, so we had to wait for long and literally swing our arm to get attention to get a drink. Even for paying, they just left the machine on our table, nobody asked how was everthing which is obviously you ll be asked in the restaurant.
Great dough. Dandy sauce. Just enough toppings as it should be. A lovely pizza. K is a true gentleman. We will definitely be back. Quality pizza. Food
One of the best Italian restaurants with a great menu and delicious wood-oven pizzas. Its a fantastic place to spend time and enjoy high-quality food at a reasonable price.
Came tonight and had the lasagna, spicy rigatoni, braised beef ravioli and bruschetta. I used to absolutely love this place and haven t been since last December. It really wasn t as good as it usually was, a little disappointed with the flavours and preparation of the dishes. Just didn t have that same quality I expect when visiting.
Terrible we reserve a table for 9 people. At the moment that we arrive our table wasnt ready. We wait basically in a table in the corner for our table that never wasnt ready. We wait until people finish with they food to be seated. The only good was the food and service.
Good Italian style pizza! Several options without tomato sauce which is good because Id a tomato allergy!
Tav Gnocchi & Pizza Bar Over priced for low quality Italian food They hardly put any toppings on the pizza and charge so much
The food was amazing and it was ready quickly. The server was very kind and funny. Overall an amazing place, i would come back if i was from toronto. The food was amazing, delicious and it was ready quickly. The waitress was kind, smiling and competent. I recommend!
Super fast and friendly service, excellent and authentic Italian food, clean toilets. Could not have been better!
We went to collage street last night for a walk and we saw this restaurant, we were hungry and took a table. Food was outstanding, fresh arugula salad, rigatoni with tomato sauce was excellent and we had a pizza with Italian ham, artichokes, mushrooms, olives flavors together was really good. One of the best pizzas I ve had. This is a real Italian restaurant and very reasonable price.
Terrible service for the most mid food. Had to ask for water, cutlery all while sweltering in August heat with no air conditioning on. Save yourself and your $$.
On vacation in Toronto I went to little Italy... This little restaurant is in the theme.. The dishes are generous, especially the pizzas.. Very good value for money...
This place used to be sooooo good. Small unique spot with amazing quality control. It was worth it to sit in a hot restaurant in the summer for amazing home made pasta. Now the food is watery and not flavourful. Nothing is seasoned properly and it doesnt even seem like the pasta is made fresh in house anymore. We got the most stale bread Ive ever had last time I was there. The service was all over the place and it wasn t really that busy. Also extremely watery yet bitter espresso martini?? Feels like they expanded and the quality of everything went out the door. Soooo disappointing because I used to recommend this spot to everyone. :(
My friend and I came for dinner a couple weeks ago. I got spaghetti carbonara. It was honestly the worst meal I ve ever eaten. I am not the kind of person to complain and that s on me but did want to share my experience.
Trattoria Taverniti is a gem for authentic Italian food in the city! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a charming rustic interior that really sets the mood. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, making the dining experience even better. And to top it all off, the prices are quite reasonable for the quality of food and service you get. Highly recommend for anyone looking for great Italian cuisine without breaking the bank!
Might actually be the longest calzone I have had. Though their pizzas and pastas are 10/10, this calzone is must for anyone visiting Little Italy. Order the Rosina, will never disappoint. Prices are great compared to most Italian places, will be going back again.
We get seated, a group of 5 and waited 7 minutes for a menu. They were not that busy. We happen to sit beside the service desk where they have their utensils, card machines and menus. My buddy grabs 1 menu and we all take turns looking at it. Few min later waitress comes and asks us what we would like to eat. Remember, no ones given us a menu yet, the 5 of us are splitting a menu because we are starving and no employee has looked at us yet. We order, me being a vegetarian I ask the waitress if theres any decent veggie pasta options as its hard to tell whats meat and what isnt because the descriptoins have all these fancy names for the meat. She looked uninterested in throwing any suggestions so I end up picking some pasta that had walnuts in it. It tasted like oatmeal which is fine if I was having oatmeal and NOT pasta. The fact that were still expected to tip folks when they are terrible at their job. My friends were not exactly in love with their food items either. I am sure my experience does not sum up their restaurant but my experience was terrible.
Very bad service. I had a reservation but there was no reserved table, and no one bothered to bring me the menu or clean the table. Eventually I left.
Food: 0 Staff and Atmosphere: 5 star Food
I think of Taverniti as a neighbourhood gem that you can rely on for great Italian food in a cozy, casual, friendly atmosphere. For that reason a negative experience yesterday was especially disappointing. We booked a table for 12 to have dinner for my dad s birthday. We normally go to the original Taverniti, but they can t seat 12 together, so when I made the reservation, the expansion next door was suggested to me. The good: the food was excellent as usual The bad: Mind-blowingly inattentive service that put a damper on the evening and prevented us from ordering a second round of drinks, wine with dinner, coffee, or dessert. Details: - As soon as we were all seated we noticed there was an uncomfortable vibe in the room. The two servers ignored us. One of them appeared visibly angry/annoyed. We were basically the only table in this small restaurant, so it was really strange to not be acknowledged. - After around 10 minutes, a server finally came to the table and abruptly said Can I take your order? like, no hello, can I get you started with drinks? We werent ready to order mains, but ordered cocktails/beer and several appetizers to share. - A few minutes into appetizers she came back and asked again to take our order. Not a big deal, we were ready to order mains at this point, but felt like we were being rushed. - We finished our drinks and wanted to order another round and/or wine with dinner, but our server didn t come back -- instead she let us sit there for 20-30 minutes at a table full of empty glasses. One of our group flagged her down and ordered a beer, but she didnt ask if anyone else wanted anything. - When our food was dropped off, still no checking in re drinks or anything else. - She started clearing plates when only half the table was finished eating. We were baffled by this behaviour. As a former server I can t imagine treating a table like this . not to mention she could have sold us twice as many drinks and upped our bill substantially! Final note: An AC was dripping on a couple of us throughout the meal, which is totally not the servers fault, but the restaurant was aware and made no attempt to move us or otherwise improve the situation.
The food was Ok and then staff was fantastic. Very disappointed that their Pomodora sauce has pork in it. Not option to have it without so that limits you to a few items on their menu. Shocking that an Italian restaurant doesn t have non pork red sauce. NOT even for their pizza so had to order a regular cheese and mushroom pizza with no sauce.
I found the food normal, nothing special, and I felt that something was missing, such as when they leave bread before the main course, the service was good, and I found the atmosphere normal as well, I expected a little more from the place.
Try the bruscetta
There are far better restaurants on College. We had a horrid experience. Tired and hungry, we stopped here...big mistake. The waitress barely understood English. We ordered $30 chicken parm with PASTA. She brought it to us with salad. Then we waited 15 minutes for the pasta to arrive. By that time, the chicken parm was finished. Heres the best part, the waitress messed up the order but went ahead and charged us for the pasta! Pretty nervy. Dont expect anything service wise...no water in a stifling hot restaurant, no oil/balsamic or even butter with the bread. We were given the excuse that they are short staffed and low on water. We had a bottle at our table. How hard is it to refill that bottle? The same waitresses had more than enough time to take pictures, over abd over again, for other tables. SMH. Food is okay, nothing special, and definitely not worth the hassle. Please think twice before you visit this place.
Very sketchy service, but great food.
Amazing pastas- frutti di mare and the penne alla calabresse; the classic bruschetta was great too. and the vibe is chill and nice. If I d live in Toronto, this would be one my spots to frequent. Shout out to beautiful Carolina and Venezia for the great service and warm smiles. The young man from Turkey was nice too. Great place and great food.
Great place for a birthday dinner. The service and food were spot on. The Negroni was a bit too strong for me however celebrating a birthday and the anniversary of Anthony Bourdains passing, Id say it was perfect. Food : 5/5
Samantha Brown may be the best waitess to ever touch taverniti, her service was so prompt and kind that I believe it made my food smile.
The pizza and pasta were great! The flavors were authentic and delicious. Additionally, the staff was incredibly friendly, making the dining experience even more enjoyable.
Amazing!! THANKS
The food here was amazing. Everyone I was with got something different and we were all really impressed. The waitress was really busy but attentive and the wait for our food wasnt long.
Best Italian food in Little Italy and Toronto, all of the food is very tasty and delicious! service and atmosphere were absolutely fantastic! Highly recommend, go check it out!
Best burrata I ve ever had. Tiramisu was really good. Pizza was on point as well.
Top notch everything. Incredibly reasonable prices. Would 1000% recommend this lovely spot.
Good typical Italian food
We went to this restaurant with high hopes, but overwhelmingly disappointed with the quality of the food. We ordered the following items from the menu. 1. Bruschetta Classic - I have never had this type of bruschetta before and I am not sure which part of Italy it is coming from. Over powered by Balsamic vinegar and Parmesan. Definitely not a fun. 2. Fjore - When you promise fresh Burrata, you have got to serve it. It was no where close to fresh as the soft part in the inside was curdled and it tasted nothing. It was more like soft taste of mozzarella. 3. Prosciutto Bianca - it was a good pizza and we loved it. Totally recommend it. Service wasn t great either, there was no table visit nor they asked if we liked the food or if we needed anything or even for allergies.
Fresh made food, great quality, retains a local homemade feel despite being part of a larger network of different restaurants Would definitely visit again! Wheelchair accessibility: Would he tough to navigate. One step up from sidewalk then a very cramped interior.
Terrible service. Waiting one hour to get an appetizer. Pizza with hardly anything on it. Fungi pasta was horrible. When asked for bread, got four small stale slices. Would never return. Used to be our favourite place to go before Covid.
It wasn t bad but wasn t great either. We got the mediterraneo pizza and it was delicious. The bruschetta was nice but I would personally like it if the bread was a bit more toasted, and I found the rigatoni al pesto to be lacking flavour. Unfortunately, they dont make changes in their dishes and they don t remove the meat from their pasta dishes which limits our options. Service wise, staff were polite but would have preferred them to be more attentive.
Delicious food and very good service! We will surely return!
We had an amazing time. The food was delicious, everyone got something different, and everyone had a great time. However, we found the service was very slow and our server forgot parts of our order. I never got my drink, and my friend got the spicy option when he asked for mild, so just be mindful to double check and stay on top of your order. We had no issues, I was not charged for my drink, and my buddy got the proper meal, but only after everyone else had finished. He was the last one served the first time, and then he replacement Carbonara took forever. Dietary restrictions: They do have some gluten free options. Im not sure about cross-contamination though. My buddy is gluten sensitive, but not coeliac, and was fine.
Good pizza and pasta but no delivery.
The worst service I have ever had
One of the worst dining experiences in Toronto. Fast food restaurants have better dining experiences than this pretentious place. First of the wait is 15-20 mins which is understandable. Then the front of the house decided to let a party of 3 ahead of us when there were loads of people waiting. The food ordered Penne Calabrese and Penne Rosina was cold and tasted like pasta in a jar sauce. For $19 its a ripoff. Calabrese had 3 what seemed like handrolled pieces of meat not even slices of sausage. Food is served in plastic plate and plastic fork. That was a first time at an Italian restaurant eating with plastic cutlery. No napkins, no cheese, no tap water. Only $2 bottled water. The cleaning area is filthy downstairs and unhygienic. It was like an experience of dining in a prison in farside of the world. We ordered a bucket of Estrella and the server got us just 1 bottle.
Very bad food and service!
I was there today during the little Italy festival around 4:45 pm. It was horrible. Waited in line to get a table but the lady in the front was extremely rude, laterally just drifted off and ignored us mid way though telling us how long the wait might be to stare at a dog wearing a jersey, I mean that s all fine and dandy but once your done checking out the dog maybe not ignore us completely afterwards and start talking to someone else when I m standing right infront of you. Once we got in the service was pretty bad as expected, I don t mind the delay since they were busy but don t ignore your guests. Ordered a pizza which was only sliced down the middle waited 20mins cause they kept telling us be right there just so we could ask them to slice it until the pizza went cold and we gave up and left.
Excellent pizza made with fresh ingredients, will definitely come back!
We visited during the Taste of Little Italy festival this year. They offered a special menu, likely to expedite service, which made sense but unfortunately, the food was disappointing. We ordered the penne pomodoro, which was not only tiny for $19 but also tasted no better than the $1.99 pasta from the CNE. My girlfriend noticed a certificate on the wall proclaiming their pizza as the second best in the city, so we decided to try the white mushroom pizza. While the mushroom flavors were pleasant, the pizza itself was undercooked and soggy. Its unfortunate because the restaurant looks inviting from the outside and the staff were friendly but needless to say, we wont be returning. (Sorry we didn t take any photos)
Went during taste of Little Italy. It was a tourist trap cash grab. I understand that it was going to be busy so they had to streamline the menu but even so they just mailed it in. The servers were very nice and the service was good but they should be ashamed of the food that they put in front of people.
Came during the taste of Italy festival and the food was terrible. Wouldn t even feed the food they gave to my dogs. The spaghetti had no flavour and the pizza was soggy and wasn t sliced at all; the pepperoni looked like it came out of a lunchables box.
Unfortunately, I was visiting the Italian festival and they were busy, the pasta was acceptable and the pizza a little better, something not pleasant that a service of 5 beers in a bucket was ordered and they were all delivered open, the first time that has happened to me.
Great experience overall. Food was great and service was fantastic. We sat out on the patio and had a great time. Our server gave us great recommendations.
This is by far the worst Italian restaurant I have eaten in. The food is mediocre. We shared a margarita pizza which was technically dough and a bit of tomato sauce. They served wine in disposable glass (I could not believe my eyes) and served my sangria in a plastic glass. They may say it s for the festival time but all other restaurants were serving in chic plates and glasses. truly low and unauthentic place. The only thing they imitate from restaurants in Italy was to charge for water and not serve tap water. Haha The service was by far the worst I experienced in Toronto. We had our drinks and food with no plate, napkins, and utensils. This is unacceptable and unbelievable. We only saw the server once when she cleaned our table and took our order. We had to go inside to fetch her with the pay machine after an hour. A margarita pizza took them 45 minutes to serve. Really disappointing!
Went to this place last night with a few friends and it was a really enjoyable experience:) Definitely check to see which place you made your recommendation at, Trattoria and Taverniti are two different places (which is very confusing). Our group got various different pizzas and pastas to share. We really enjoyed the Gorgonzola pizza and Rigatoni Pesto pasta. Also the caprese was yummy! Our server was the only one working, and there were a couple of miscommunications but all in all a good experience. It was a friends celebration dinner, so thank you Trattoria (or Taverniti) for an enjoyable experience!!
Absolutely amazing, great atmosphere, service, food and drinks. Highly recommend and check out their patios, front and back. They have been doing it for years and multiple locations
Went here for dinner on saturday April 27th, We ordered the parm chicken and the penne ala vodka with guanciale. The guanciale is American smoked bacon, it tasted like a McDonald s McGriddle. I asked the server to confirm with the kitchen that it s guanciale. She said they confirmed it is. So my fiancé I paid so as to not potentially be accused of wanting free things. After we paid I asked another waiter to ask for the packaging as proof. Conveniently they didn t have a package. So they showed me their 1/4 size pan filled with chopped bacon. Feel ripped off and made to feel stupid. Very annoyed. If I wanted bacon pasta I would have made it at home.
A very nice little place, doesnt seat a lot of people, but thats fine. Our server was excellent. I was mildly disappointed in my pizza as pizza carne implies...meat. There were only 6 small pieces of pepperoni and a couple of sausage bits scattered around. It was tasty but a bit short of ingredients.
One of my favourite restaurants. The food is delicious! The space is small when the patio is closed so I suggest making a reservation.
WORST service ever. Avoid at all cost
I ordered take out and was disappointed. We ordered a few items and the most disappointing was the pasta with bolognese sauce. There was barely any sauce-very dry! The cheese pizza wasn t very good either. We ve ordered take out before and was disappointed but we thought we d give it another try. It seems like it s best to eat at the restaurant and not bother with takeout.
Really delicious pizza the bread was super fresh, the drinks were well made, don t skip the appetizers!
Everything we Tried at Trattoria Taverniti Established in 2011, Trattoria Taverniti resides in the heart of Torontos Little Italy. This cozy restaurant, with exposed brick and checkered tablecloths, radiates charm. What sets it apart is the warm service that treats guests like family, complemented by dishes that celebrate traditions. $$ @melissa_foodie.fun
Food was great! Poor service. Our waitress brought the wrong drink order, put cheese on the food when we asked for no cheese, and brought 3 of 4 dinner entrees out at once, the 4th, 20 minutes later when 3 of us had already finished eating.
We had a reservation and came a few minutes late (but still well within the 15 minute grace period) and we had to wait 40 minutes to be seated. It looks like they made a mistake giving our seats away and as a result tried to put us out onto the empty patio, even though our reservation was for indoor seating. While I love a good patio and granted this one was semi-covered, it was not ideal to sit outside in 10 degree weather in heavy windy rain. We made the right decision as no one else sat on the patio during our time here. This was a masterclass in bad service. This is especially disappointing as I ve been to Trattoria Taverniti (the non expansion side) next door and really enjoyed it.
Amazing experience and authentic Italian food with amazing server Grace Loved the Tiramisu.. Food
Awful service paired with awful food. Ordered the Bauletti do Zucca (butternut squash ravioli), Carne calzoni and the calamari fritti. First of all the ravioli portion was ridiculously small (8 pieces of small ravioli, what a joke) and had barely any flavour, tasted like they didn t even season it. The calzone was mostly bread with barely any filling and it was extremely dry. The calamari was fishy and not fresh, super rubbery and the coating was soggy not crispy. The servers are rude and dismissive, not to mention inattentive. Will definitely not be returning and wish we spent our money and time elsewhere. Should ve taken the fact that they were blasting house music as a warning sign to leave.
The food is perfect and fresh. The restaurant design is nice and cozy. The customer service was good but I had to wait so long to order and request drink between my meal
Last week, during a business trip, my colleague and I found this gem. The food was exceptional, and the ambiance was delightful. Our servers recommendation of Penne a la Calabrese paired with Primitivo wine was spot-on. A definite five-star experience worth revisiting.
Nice little Italian restaurant with an amazing and friendly staff. A must try their pizza is freshly made to order in a fire oven amazing will back to try the rest of the menu
My favourite Italian restaurant in all of Toronto! No matter what you order, it is going to become your new favourite dish. I would highly recommend this spot for any occasion!
Best Italian food on the planet
This place was nice. The servers were kind, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was good. The most delicious thing among the food was the tiramisu. It was soooo delicious!
Loved the ambience of this restaurant. The pizza was good but the pastas were out of this world. As a big Aglio olio enthusiast, a big thumbs up.
This place is incredible. Highly recommend the calabrese
The food was so incredibly delightful, however the service needs to be improved. The wait staff werent attentive towards our table, and unfortunately our server didnt have knowledge of the wine selection. They went to ask for help, which took a while, then recommended us something that did not satisfy the qualities wed requested for. The energy of the staff unfortunately did not match that of the ambiance of the restaurant, which was warm and inviting. Comments about the service aside, the Rosina pizza and especially the spaghetti alla carbonara were divine. The spaghetti was aromatic, smoky, wonderfully savoury and the pasta was cooked to perfection. The pizza too was greatly satisfying, a nice balance in flavours and the crust was fluffy and not too chewy. All in all, Id come back to try their other pastas and pizzas, but I do hope that the service will be improved on the fronts of attentiveness and menu knowledge.
My first time there the food was impeccable. The service was fantastic and the prices very resonable This is the place you have to try.
The food was amazing, the service was outstanding, and the decor was so charming. Will definitely be going back
Had a really pleasant time at this restaurant. The food was served very quickly and was very hot and tasty. Would recommend and will be returning.
Yummy pastas but nothing to write home about. Good hearty Italian food. Would return but wouldn t necessarily rush back.
Great experience! Everything was perfect : food, wine, service!
Small establishment with limited seating. Highly recommended to reserve the seats before you go. The Capricciosa pizza is way too salty for our group, I would not recommend it. The Calabrese pizza was quite tasty, honey on pizza was very interesting, the novel flavour might become my new personal favourite!
Amazing food!
The restaurant had a very nostalgic atmosphere along with polite staff. For the appetizer, we ordered olives and arancini, both of which were delicious, and the Diavola pizza, which could have been excellent but had less salt and was brought out of the oven earlier because it was slightly burnt.
One of the best Italian food I have ever had, top notch pasta by chef Charlie and wonderful service by lekshmi, she was very attentive even though it was just her managing the entire restaurant. 10/10 would recommend this gem of a place!
Its a very small but cozy place. The service is fast and the prices are fair. The wine selection is good as well. The food is spectacular!
Great food and great atmosphere! Little hole in the wall (reservations recommended) that will be expanding soon! V is a great bartender and friendly service with great fresh food was amazing!
SHOUTOUT TO DORI!! Best server ever!! Dori answered all our questions and was so patient with us, she was so kind! Will be coming again for the food and to have Dori as a server again!
I love this restaurant. My friends and I had Dori as our server and she was the best! She made the experience amazing and I would 10/10 recommend coming here. The food was delicious and came out in the perfect time. Can t wait to go back!
The pastas there are really good and great price. Recommend if you like true Italian food!
Food is amazing every time and all the servers are incredible, want to especially thank Dori, she is the sweetest.
This place is horrible, the server was extremely rude and the food was subpar. Don t waste your time.
There are plenty of great Italian spots, avoid this one at all cost.
Favorite little italy restaurant in Toronto. Great quality and the food is delicious. Nearly always busy so book ahead or go on a weekday night
looked on the menu and it said their cesar salad dressing was house made. asked the server, she said it was house made. i ordered it and they served me a cesar salad with Rene s dressing on it.. such a turn off to be mislead especially when i asked what was better between that and the arugula salad.. she told me cesar is better and since i thought the dressing was house made i order.. there is a reason i asked multiple times if the dressing was HOUSE MADE. thanks for the let down
Quaint place for authentic Italian dining. Food and service was amazing.
I came here for the first time with my partner and adored it! Our food was absolutely delicious. My partner who doesn t usually like marinara sauce actually devoured it (that s when I knew I was sold.) We ordered a few drinks and each one was done perfectly. The tiramisu was 100% homemade and was delicious. Everything tasted like I was back in my old Italian babysitters kitchen- delicious, flavourful and warm. I managed to get gluten free pasta which was a wonderful addition for me!! It tasted authentic and not bland in the slight. The vibe was bussing and busy but all our servers managed to make us feel attended to and never forgotten about. Despite the rush of busy tables it still felt superbly cozy and was not too loud. The place is decorated like an adorable checkered Italian kitchen. The owner (Dominic) and his daughter (Venezia) both came and asked us how we were doing which was a wonderful addition to our service. Obviously the owners are attentive to their restaurant which is something I truly appreciate. I would recommend this place 100 times over. One of the few Italian spots that felt and tasted absolutely authentic. Thank you so much! Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free pasta!
Food was fresh, pasta dishes are generous and full of flavour. Caesar salad was delicious. A must is the tiramisu cake! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free pasta available
STOPPED in on a Tuesday with no reservation. All other restaurants in its vicinity were completely empty but this placed had traffic so we wanted to know why...man did we ever find a hidden GEM! 9 tables in total small and rustic like going to Nonnas for dinner. The food spoke volumes, we asked our very welcoming server what they are known for and she recommended their award winning Calabrese Pizza and Taglietele Funghi with truffle oil...two dishes I would never normally order. I ordered the pizza but went with my choice of Fruti di Mare pasta( ate few bites then we packed it up and took it home) since were there we thought to try the fungi pasta and see what the hype was all about...oh WOW! That is all I am going to say because if youve invested time in reading this far YOU SHOULD GO AND TRY IT!
Cozy and generous delicious Italian food. Tomato sauce tasted like home made, bringing authentic european culture here. Would like to repeat. Food : 5/5
This place has gone down his significantly. We use to come here several times a month a couple years ago and it was our favorite Italian restaurant. Quality of food is horrible now. The dnuja bread use to be amazing and it came and it was a huge disappointment. We both looked at it and almost laughed like what the hell happened? The waitress forgot one of our appetizers and our mains were ready to come out but waitress must have forgot to tell them about our appetizers so they stuck our food in the back for 10 - 15 minutes. We will unfortunately not be returning. Dont get the gnocchi unless you like eating mashed potatoes and rose sauce lol. Although the chef said its supposed to be mush.
Fantastic little Italian restaurant in the heart of little Italy. The food was incredibly delicious, and very culturally authentic, as opposed to North American influenced Italian food. Atmosphere in the restaurant was wonderful and well decorated. Would certainly recommend this place to anyone looking for Italian food in Toronto.
The food was very average. I was expecting more since it s a famous place in little Italy. Pasta carbonara and pizza were both mediocre. And for the bill to be that high not really worth it.
We have ordered Calamari Fritti,Pizza pepperoni, fettuccine alfredo and Tiramisu.I loveee the fettuccine so much, the sauce is rich n savory with cheese. And also the tiramisu, moist and creamy
Terrible attitude from the servers to go along with horrendous food. The tomato sauce tasted like it was straight out the can, too acidic and no seasoning. Carbonara with bacon at an Italian restaurant...What an atrocity. No one at the restaurant has heard of guanciale. The salad dressing was just vinegar and olive oil. We were roped in by the red checkered table cloth, and duped. Never again.
I visited this place yesterday for the dinner with my friends. The restaurant is not too spacious but beautifully constructed and conventionally built. The ambience was cozy and welcoming. The staff was polite and treated us very well. Although there were not many vegetarian options, still one of our servers gave us the best suggestions and we really enjoyed a lot. Both the servers were excellent in their job. Above and beyond, Dori was sociable and exceptional in her service. Thanks a lot. Definitely, I will go back soon.
Highly Overpriced and average food
I booked this restaurant for Christmas on 12/24/23, I arrived at the restaurant yesterday and it was closed, irresponsible towards the customer, especially on Christmas Eve!
Better than Italy :) Their pizzas are delicious if you want to see more comments you can check my Instagram: KaaninToronto
Huge selection of Gnocchi! We were able to walk in on new years and just get a table for 4. Excellent menu selections great tasting food! Wonderful service. Clean bathrooms. Overall an experience that left an excellent impression!
2023: Used to be my fav Italian restaurant in the city but I stopped coming after my mother s birthday dinner was ruined. Antipasti: We were served old Refrigerated food, and terrible calamari. I found a plastic bag in the pizza crust while eating, the pizza was replaced with a clumpy pasta that was awful to eat. I gave up at the end, could eat any plate and still had to pay more than $200. Was this restaurant sold? Where is the Italian family that used to run it? Chances are that the kitchen might be able to make a delicious Roti rather than a authentic pizza/pasta. 4 years ago: Felt like eating in Italy. The environment is fenomenal. Quality service and better food
Went here because it was close to Track and Field . Good thing we made reservations because it s very small. That being said, the food was amazing, the service was fantastic, even though there was only one server because of a sick call. Pizza was out of this world. Would highly recommend.
Cozy small spot for good Italian home-cooking. As someone with Italian heritage and has visited many many Italian restaurants, we were pleasantly surprised by this gem. Long lists of pastas and pizzas to choose from. They were busy for a Monday evening, so I may make a reservation next time! We will definitely return!
This place used to be my favourite Italian place but I went recently and the quality has dropped significantly!!! The food tastes nothing like it used to and that s just so sad.
Was hesitant to order on Uber Eats due to the past reviews, but happy I ignored them (they are outdated anyway). Food came in great condition, nothing over cooked or cold. 4 stars is due to to the portion size. But either way, I m very satisfied and recommend.
First impression was OMG this place is so nice, the ambiance is so cute and the aroma was enticing and couldt wait to taste the food. The food was not a disappointment...it was FANTASTIC! The prices and portion size was well balance and no food went to waste, even the sauces were wiped clean with bread or pizza crust. What was not finished was taken home. *Tips: Make a reservation! I booked 3 months in advanced and was so glad I did. The location is small but very full, no table was left empty for long and lots of walk-ins were willing to wait over an hour to eat there. **Note: It is an old building and space is very limited. Not the friendliest for strollers, wheelchairs or walkers. Restrooms are also only accessible by a tight narrow staircase. Watch your step or youll be in for a rude awakening when you smack your head going down. Definitely a fan and cant wait to go back!
Amazing quality every time!! I ve been coming here for a while now and it s always consistent. Hands-down one of my favourite Italian places in Toronto. The gnocchi Venezia is so beautiful with the perfect consistency to the gnocchi and the flavour of the sauce is amazing. The carbonara is so tasty with plenty of flavour and very well-done overall. With the exceptional dishes and cute interior this will remain a go-to spot!!
Good Italian place. Nothing of note either extremely positive or negative
Been there two times. The food is delicious. Recommend.
Best Bruscetta ever!!!
Omg! Great food..great place..great service! A friend of mine talked about this place and went there and ordered gnocchi with mushrooms and truffle oil..so good, nice big portions! Definitely recommend to everyone Food : 5/5
First time visit and without a reservation for a Sunday late lunch. We took a 4 seat table just beside the window. The atmosphere was good. We had the classic Bruschetta, Pollo Alla Parmigiana, and Diavola Pizza. The food is all homemade style. The Bruschetta was not the best, but acceptable. The biggest problem with the Pollo Alla Parmigiana and the Pizza was them being too salty!! Not the best and most welcoming staff.
If you are a person of color, a Black person for instance - DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT. The server was horribly racist. At 6 today the restaurant was absolutely empty except for one table of four people. We asked to be seated and were advised the restaurant was fully booked, although again no one was there except for one table and we could be seated but told in these exact words but YOU have to GET OUT by 6:45 He then proceeded to lie and say there no bookings available on OpenTable. But clearly when we checked the site, tables were available. It was evident that they had a problem with us, we were not the right people and we must get out! I am glad we walked out and they seemed pleased, I couldnt bear the thought of spending my time or money with an establishment that allows its staff to treat customers in this disgusting and racist way.
Amazing food. The customer service is also so kind, warm and friendly. The fig appetizer was extra fantastic ! Would definitely come again
Best Italian restaurant I d say I ve visited in terms of ambience, service, and food quality!
Cozy atmosphere. Like eating at your grandmothers. Food was okay, nothing special but very consistent.
One of the best Italian restaurants in Toronto, home made pastas, gnocchis, delicious pizzas, the Italian cocktails are the best. Fabulous place!
Pleasant Italian restaurant in the heart of Little Italy. On weekends is usually very busy. Very good food and portions. Service is friendly, and they dont leave you sitting ignored. The only complaint I could find is the staff putting the chairs of empty tables up as the night grew later. Sort of a subtle hint to go home.
Delicious meal in a quaint and cozy restaurant. We were a group of 6 and were able to taste a good cross section of food, and all the food was great. The gnocchi were varied in flavor and shape. But we re all fantastic. The calzone makes me want to go back to try the pizza in their wood fired oven. The bench seating however needs to be improved as the two pieces of wood no longer align and distract from enjoying the meal.
Wonderful restaurant in Torontos Little Italy. Prices very reasonable and the food is excellent. Reservation essential - the restaurant is small and fills to the brim nightly.
Nice outdoor patio. Delicious gnocchi and pizza. So many options on the menu! Will be back to try more.
Based on a second visit to this restaurant, I cannot recommend this restaurant unless you want to eat undercooked dough thats chewy, too salty and loaded with grease. I also didnt see any of the original owners, so its possible this has become a franchise but I cant be sure. The service was also subpar. While my server was pleasant and took some time to share recommendations, it was rushed. We also felt a severe lack of attention because the server did not bother coming back to our table and calling her over for anything was a task and long wait, requiring me to disconnect from the person I was dining with. This might sound exaggerated but seriously, the Dominoes near my house makes better pizza.
Fantastic and cosy place for some great pizza. We had the classic bruschetta which was amazing, their caprese salad was very good too. We had their Margarita pizza which was just perfect, it hit the spot, we also had their Napoletana, which was a little salty (as expected) because it had the anchovies on it but it really good. Their Sottobosco (gnocchi) was very creamy and tasted really good! Their Italian ice tea was decent as well. The service was very good and there is street parking and a Green P lot close-by. Thanks!
The food was average for the most part. Not bad at all, but was definitely over-hyped by a friend. I had/tried the arancini, lasagne, Cesar salad, fig app, basic pizza and lemon desert. Everything was fine, but the margarita pizza was shockingly poorly done. The crust was unusual and not in a good way. The Cesar was over-dressed and tasted like a kit salad you d get at a grocery store. With that said, everybody else at the table (there were six of us) LOVED it. I think their tongue are dead, tbh
The Margherita pizza was amazing after a full day of travelling to Toronto. The staff did not seem to be too concerned with addressing me or seating me, however. I waited a good 3 minutes along with a couple behind me while two servers talked with the bartender, even though they all looked my way a few times. One server walked past me and didnt say anything. I just think thats a bad first impression. However another girl who ended up being my server seated me when she came from the back, and she was very friendly and attentive. I didnt catch her name but she definitely made up for that, not that it was an end of the world issue. The sidewalk patio is quite nice during a warmer evening. I would definitely come back here next time I visit Toronto.
I love this place so much. I wish they had more space, the tables are so crammed together. But i love it! Will be going back for my third time
good pasta and great service. Really good coffee and amazing tiramisu- highly highly recommend! Didn t much enjoy the wrapped figs and found the lightly sauced pastas a bit bland. But will always come back for the tiramisu! Food
Food was FANTASTIC
Very cute interior and decor and I especially loved the exposed brick and red/white tablecloths. We walked in on a Friday night and were lucky enough that they were able to accommodate us a table. The menu had a wide variety of options for pizzas and pastas. We ordered the bruschetta to start and to share. It was quite bland however and I wouldnt order it again. I got the margherita pizza for myself. A buddy of mine ordered a pizza too but they brought out the wrong one. He decided to switch his order to the same as mine since it looked so good. The staff did not seem to be too concerned with addressing us throughout the night. We had to wait quite a long time for somebody to take our order, ask for small plates when we got our bruschetta and ask for a water refill ourselves. However, perhaps we can chalk it up to a long day and it being the end of the night. Overall, a fine Italian restaurant.
Tavernitis is the best Italian food in toronto, hands down! The staff is so friendly and the food NEVER disappoints! I always get the penne ala vodka and it s incredible!!! Also the calabrese pizza is chefs kiss!
The food was ok nothing special at all, I had better Italian food at other restaurants. The service was not good and we expected to have a better service. We got the Sea food pasta and it was overcooked! We also ordered Domenico pizza which was very salty Buratta was fine. We wanted to order the dessert but ended up going to another place since the service was not good.
Honestly the food was below average and customer service was lacking, borderline rude and unwelcoming
Small, cozy place with great pizza and pasta.
tiramisu was good
Amazing food! Wonderful atmosphere! Excellent service!
Would have appreciated it if our server, Kate, had given a heads up that auto gratuity was applied to the bill
We meant to go to the restaurant next door but they were fully booked for the hour, So we decided to try this place since we were told they had the same kitchen and menu. And they did not disappoint. This place has some of the best pizza in the city and on Little Italy. This neopolitan pizza is fantastic but needs to be eaten hot and right away. Not ideal for takeout.
Lovely little mom and pop place. Food is tasty. Portion sizes were decent. A little small/tight but that contributes to its very family like feel.
I asked for a carbonara. To be honest, it needed more flavour and even tho asked for more cheese and pepper still having not the best flavour. Service is good. Drinks are okay
I visited this place because I wanted to eat authentic Italian food, the menu is very extensive, the place is small but well equipped, the food was spectacular but one of the waitresses or I think it was the owner was a little unpleasant in my country out of politeness. You greet the clients who pay your salary and dont look at them as much.
I am looking forward to another dining experience at Tavs. On a very busy Friday evening we were still accorded impeccable service and attention. I was impressed that the staff were able to make some seating changes to accommodate a group of five. The pizzas baked in a real wood burning oven were amongst the best Ive ever tasted and there are so many unique pizza options. From our seating we had a direct view of the open kitchen and oven and EVERY dish looked incredibly delicious and presented. Our server and manager were congenial and we engaged in a great conversations. Its one of those places that still serves and refills water to guests. It is small and intimate and the most importantly for me, I did not feel rushed. Thanks to everyone at Tavs!
The food was inedible and service was non-existent and rude. I regret choosing this restaurant for my sisters birthday..
2 of us walked in on a Friday night at 5:45 pm without reservations and the place was empty. Hostess said there was no seating available. They sent us next door who also said they had no space available. When we walked back in front of restaurant the two groups that were behind us the first time were seated and we know with 100% certainty that they did not have reservations. Restaurant was still empty. We were shocked. Ended up finding another Italian restaurant a couple of blocks away, the Regina Pizzeria, and I m glad we did. We will never go back to Taverniti and glad we have found a better spot on College St. for Italian food.
We went went to Trattoria on Dec 13th for a good buy dinner for one of our co-workers. Place was cozy but didnt look like it was anything special long narrow dominated by the pizza oven. But thats where the commonplace ended. Our server was amazing and even though the place was busy he was very attentive gave us suggestions on what to have and when I told him I was looking for something with a lot of meat he told me to let him make me something special. He brought out a pizza that he said was his favorite and it was incredible! They should add it to the menu. Food was so good we forgot to take pics.
Delicious Italian food. All pasta, gnocchi and pizza is made from scratch in-house, and they offer a good variety of dishes, appetizers and drinks. The service is excellent and the ambiance is welcoming, cozy and very intimate.
