We ordered a hotpot but were served only after around 40 minutes, and then had to wait another 15 minutes to cook the food. It took almost an hour before we could start eating. I just wish there had been proper communication, we could have ordered something else if the dish wasn’t readily available. The food and place are still nice tho
Loved the atmosphere, great spot for groups to grab drinks! We tried the Polar Beer, and I found it super refreshing, especially when paired with their skewers and the pork oyster mushrooms—highly recommend! The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the yakisoba which was too dry and lacked flavor.
Food was delicious. Ambiance/atmosphere is what we enjoyed! Good music- not too loud for us to be screaming at each other. They have a drum roll that hypes people up. Service was fast and servers were nice
One of the first Izakaya's I ever remember seeing and now I know why they've stood the test of time! Extensive food and drink menu offered in a lively and energetic setting. They have drink specials every day and a portion of the menu is seasonal rotating. We loved everything we tried, with the standouts being their signature Smokey Hay Hamachi Sashimi, Black Croquette, and Spicy Goma Beef. The Smokey Hay sashimi is unlike anything I've ever tried before and truly unique - if nothing else I'd recommend anyone to come here just to try it. Everything is ordered via your phone so just be sure to double check the items you get because we had a few minor mix ups. Despite this, service was friendly and accommodating, and food came out quick. Prices are a little higher than some other options across the city, but given the taste and quality we were not disappointed. My only regret is that it took me so long to eat here and now that I have I'll definitely be back, especially for the Smokey Hay Sashimi. Highly Recommend!
We ordered a bunch of stuff from the menu, but don’t forgot to have SAKE shots here. The most fun thing you can do with the whole table. Chicken tacos were delicious!
Loved the atmosphere. Would be great for a date or double date but not a large group if you’re looking for communal shared dishes. The shareable dishes weren’t great portions for the price point and quality but the single dishes were amazing. Had an udon and my bf had a rice dish w pork and it was sooo good and great portion and worth the price. They only do 1 payment for groups of 6 or more so be prepared for that.
A really beautiful izakaya in downtown Toronto: Delicious food, cozy atmosphere, good music, sake & interesting cocktails! Their Anago Don was a highlight for me. Service was very friendly. The place looks amazing. Can't wait to go back for food and drinks!
This place is great! It was my first time here and my brother recommended it to us. It's a low-key bar and restaurant. It's a really chill place with loud, vibing music that brings up your spirits. I would highly recommend coming here with close friends that you enjoy the company of and would enjoy the music atmosphere. 🎶 They have a huge TV near the bar, and they were playing a football match. They also have a private room in the back where you can enjoy the company of a larger group of people. I think they also have a TV in there because I heard people screaming and enjoying something they were watching.
This is a traditional Japanese izakaya (bar). They have daily specials for drinks which were actually quite good bang for buck. I tried the Wednesday night sake special and it was a glass and flat sake cup overflowing for $7.90. I also tried the Iko (squid appetizer which is great for one. It was small but very flavorful. Finally I finished off with the omelette that looks like okonomiyaki. It was small but surprisingly filling. Again good for one person but also paired with something else. Overall the environment was dark but nice. You may want to bring a small light for reading the menu. 4/5 stars. Wheelchair accessibility: No

Had an amazing experience at Don Don Izakaya. From the food to the service to the ambiance everything was standout. Hard to find quality affordable options downtown, & i will definitely be back. Special thanks to Jekki, who s hospitality & service made my experience even more memorable.

Loved the place! Everyone was nice. The atmosphere was hectic. They hit the drum each time someone arrives and when a group does the sake bomb.
One of server provided really good service but other server never care about us even i asked polite. after paid our bills the other server came our table and she argued with us like why you no tipping us? I asked her i already tipping her and why should i give tip others? But she went her boss Even before Im done talking. If they didn t asked me like that, i never write this review I gave tip her who care about our table. I also working as server. IF YOU NEED A TIP PLEASE CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER PLEASE JUST NOT WANT TO ABOUT TIPPING

My third time here. I highly recommend this spot for great food and fun times.
While the food and atmosphere might be good, don t trust the wait times. They told us 30 mins but kept on getting pushed back. Even after an hour they kept on saying 30 more mins. Ended up cutting our losses and going somewhere else. Its genuinely disrespectful when a restaurant lies to their customer and doesnt provide any transparency Next time just say the restaurant is full

Came here twice in the last week. The place is super comfortable, the waiters are great and we had a nice little chat with one of the owners. Definitely try out the plum wine and the Chicken Karaage! Shout out to Heather for the recommendations!

The food was good enough. The service needs improvement and the overall atmosphere of the place was pretty good. We ordered 9 separate dishes. 1. There were issues with a few dishes I noticed. The karaage was very oily and soggy which didnt bring the signature crispiness to it. Not to mention, the chicken didnt taste fresh!! One of the dishes we ordered was grilled squid and it was extremely salty. However the rest of the food was good and delicious. 2. The servers looked confused. We didnt receive one dish at all and was charged for it. Happy to say they took it out when we mentioned. We asked to split the bill 4 ways and then it was only split 2 ways. I know these are minor things, but does make an impression if the server gets flustered. 3. The atmosphere was great. Cozy vibes with a cute little drum beat every time someone enters. The servers are nice and friendly and the decor is great. Wheelchair accessibility: There is an elevator but would have to confirm.

My brothers best friend, Andrew, recommended this place and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! The atmosphere was electric and the staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. I had some amazing octopus and the shrimp mayo was a unique dish. All in all, it was a fun experience for everyone and I will definitely be back to try more of their cuisine. Stay hungry, my friends!

Don Don Izakaya truly transports you to a fun night out in downtown Tokyo. From the fun decor, excellent DJ, delicious food and the lively chefs, this is a place youd want to visit regularly. Anything you order here is great. We enjoyed the karaage, Angus beef skewer, shrimp, takoyaki and red dragon maki. The best seat in the house is in front of the chefs because you see their great team work and the skewer section is so exciting, especially with the flame grilled orders. Its also the best spot to enjoy the DJs set. The DJ had a wonderful mix and tribute to 80s japanese city pop, making my night more nostalgic. Don Don izakayas fun vibe will lift your spirits. I will be a regular here, especially after a long week at work. The sake ice cream is wild! Dont leave without it.

Don Don Izakaya is as good as don don don donki. I recently tried their horumon skewer, and it was absolutely delicious! The meat was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it a great spot to enjoy a meal with friends. Highly recommend!

Feeling like being treated unfairly. When we pay the bills, the server asked how much change we want back. That is weird cause usually we should get the change back and then do the tipping? But when we said we want $30 back, the server repeated twice $20? You want $20 change? Ended up with $20 change. Then she talked about the event about free ice creams. 3 of us participated, but only 2 ice creams for some reasons. And how she talks? Nah. Good food, but maybe better trained servers.

Food: I wanted spicy salmon sushi and they didn t have it in stock and made me get a dragon role. Also forgot to get me one of my items. The food was mid at best. Service: we were a bit group and played one of their dice rolling games they screwed up our drinks and the service took very long. It was automatic gratuity so I felt like they didn t care about us lol. Atmosphere: the only good thing they do at this place is yell at you when you over pay for sake bombs.

Don Don has been staple for my friends and I for years!! A very cozy izakaya downtown that always has fun vibes. They have a live dj every day, beer towers, and all of the people that work here are incredible. The food is also tasty!!
