Chubby's is simply our take on traditional Caribbean cuisine balanced with healthy, culinary twists. Inspired by home-style cooking infused with the warmth and vibrancy of Jamaica’s culture and people, Chubby’s is a celebration of our love and respect for the island’s food and all the amazing Jamaican cooks we know. We even chose a Jamaican nickname for the restaurant, one that represents that good tummy feeling you get after having a delicious home-cooked meal.
The food was absolutely delicious but the portion size is outrageous. To me hearty food like Jamaican food is best enjoyed in bigger portions but this restaurant serves the opposite. A $20+ item will be a few bites of food. I think if money isn’t a factor the food is definitely top notch but if you want value I’d recommend elsewhere. For the food I’d definitely recommend the salt fish Mac, jerk chicken wings, and best of all their rum bread pudding. The rum bread pudding was by far the highlight of my lunch.
Had a nice time dining at Chubby's this evening. We walked in on a weeknight and were promptly seated. Our server Zach was attentive and friendly. His food recommendations did not disappoint. We shared the medium jerk chicken (it came with slaw) and the pan seared snapper that came on a bed of sweet potatoes and greens in a rich coconut sauce. The fried plantains are a must have on the side to sop up the lingering sauces. Would return.
Chubby's Jamaican Kitchen offers a nice atmosphere that is warm and inviting, perfect for enjoying a meal with friends or family. However, I found the portion sizes to be on the smaller side, which might leave some diners wanting more. The flavors of the dishes are genuinely good, capturing the essence of authentic Jamaican cuisine. However, I did notice a limited selection of vegetarian options, which may be a downside for those seeking plant-based meals. Overall, my experience at Chubby's Jamaican Kitchen was positive, and I appreciated the flavorful dishes and inviting ambiance. It’s definitely worth a visit, especially if you enjoy Caribbean flavors!
I had a good time at this restaurant. My friends chose to sit outside on the patio. This wasn’t my favorite but there were heaters there so that made it better. When you go inside tho, that is where the good impressions are made. This two story homey vibe with lots of seating in the back yard is super cute. The decor, the lights, and the plants create an amazing ambience. For a Saturday afternoon, it was pretty busy with a blended scene. The staff were professional and efficient. I could see why this business is doing well here and I think they are doing a lot of things right. The food in my opinion was just okay. The meals were plated like sides so that was different. However the food was tasty and I was satisfied after the meal. The food did what it needed to do. The rice and peas could use more flavor and the curry shrimp was spicy but the plantains were PERFECTION. So I think the food would be subjective depending on what you like and are used to. Overall I would recommend this place. Im glad we came here. You should definitely try it for yourself at least ONCE. It’s a vibe and I think it would add value to your Toronto experience.
We had a great time dining in for dinner at Chubby’s. The music, atmosphere and hospitality were incredible. Our server, Nadia, was amazing! She recommended popular dishes which was helpful and she had a very kind/energetic personality that made the dining experience fun! Looking forward to returning again in the future.
We went to Chubbys for the first time to have lunch on Thanksgiving Monday. Our hopes were high, and Chubbys and their staff surely lived up to their reputation and our expectations! I firstly want to compliment the staff regarding their professionalism. The decorum with staff that I observed was impressive. We ordered oxtail soup, rice, fried plantain, jerk wings, jerk chicken, and saltfish fritters. The food was flavorful and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite! The interior design gave a tropical feeling and it was visually appealing. I am certain that we will go back to Chubbys again and I look forward to trying more of their food.... and as if our experience could not get any better.. Our wedding song played while we were there (Jah Cure- Call On Me). -Review from The Wife, Rea
Excellent food, great atmosphere! We came for dinner and booked a reservation the day of. Would recommend booking a reservation. We got lucky and secured two seats at the bar. We only received their food menu. Looked around for the drinks menu but did not see any and no one gave us one. We saw the bartender open the fridge and pull out red stripe beers so we asked for one. Ordered the small jerk chicken and substituted the coleslaw for rice and peas. The small size comes with 3 pieces of jerk chicken. The jerk chicken was very very good. We also got the curry chicken which comes with a pineapple chutney. This was so savoury and flavourful! Both dishes were delicious! Would recommend! The interior decor has a tropical vibe. There’s a patio, main floor and second floor for seating. We got there at 630pm and it was completely full. Definitely recommend booking a reservation. This place is worth the hype, would recommend!
I was excited to share this review because, even after four years, my boyfriend and I still fondly remember how wonderful this restaurant was. Reflecting on those moments inspired me to share our experience. Upon our arrival, we were greeted with warmth by an elderly couple who had just completed their meal and were eager to share their experience with us. The host greeted us with a delightful dance, offering the warmest welcome I have ever encountered. The waitress was exceptionally kind and attentive, even taking a selfie with us, which added a personal touch to our visit. The food was outstanding; I can still savor the remarkable flavors even after four years. This restaurant is truly a hidden gem, and it will always be a must-visit destination whenever we return to Canada. Thank you for the wonderful memories!
Was there for a work party in the upstairs event room and it was great. Great food, service and atmosphere.
Shout out to Vanessa! I loved my experience, you guys are awesome. Keep up the good work, I felt so welcome as a solo guest and they were very quick when it comes to serving me despite having so many guests. 10/10 recommend.
Came here yesterday for lunch with my family and WOW!! AMAZING FOOD, AMAZING DRINKS! It even SMELLS amazing in there! HIGHLY recommend!!
Decent food but expensive for relatively simple Jamaican
Nicely spiced jerked chicken!
It was a nice dining experience. The interior and designs were very cute for a date night out. The jerk chicken was great but nothing out of the ordinary, red sangria s were decent. Ridiculously overpriced though!
Hi went here last night with my daughter. The food was good although their portions are not huge for the price. We had oxtail and rice and peas ($25.00) and jerk chicken and rice (small) is $16.00. Both tasted good but their portions are way small, can be improved. We also had their plaintain (good portions) and their saltfish fritters which were excellent. Their ginger beer is fantastic as well as the Track Star drink which is beetroot, ginger and lemon, I think. Very tasty both drinks. Will go again but they need to upsize their portions. Sometimes the music can be a bit loud and for a Tuesday the place was packed, every table taken.
My first time trying this place and it was absolutely awesome. Our waiter Amber was very helpful and kind with us. The food was delicious 10 out of 10 highly recommend.
Lovely place to dine
Food was decent at best. Portions are horrendous for the price. You are better off at a take out joint with similar quality. Service is mediocre and charging 20% is beyond criminal for large parties. Be aware
Had a great meal here! I ordered the jerk shrimp with rice and peas and enjoyed them both. Good value and fun atmosphere!
Wow what a gem! The food is absolutely incredible. The Jamaican rum punch is strong but so amazing. I had the goat curry which was delicious and I sampled several other meals from my party. The jerk chicken, oxtail soup, fried plantain and rum cake were great! Looking forward to the next time. No wonder these guys have so many Michelin stars!
Visited in early August 2024 and I still think about the jerk chicken wings, curry chicken and pineapple compote. I hope to visit Ontario again soon. Also, shout out to our wonderful server, Matthew.
I was quite impressed with how quickly they were able to accommodate on no reservations. They were very informative on the dietary restrictions. Customer service was perfect. Food was great. Restaurant was nice. Service was amazing. Desert was my favorite definitely recommend rum cake.
i dont recommend the oxtail stew
If you love Jamaican food or have never tried it, this is the place for you. The food and the service are amazing and the prices are not expensive. The drinks are surprisingly a little too expensive in my opinion. Overall amazing food and an amazing experience.
Delicious food, good value, expect to spend $50/person for 3 courses. I really liked the grilled shrimp. And they play 2000s hip hop which was a sick vibe Food
Very disappointed! Celebrated a birthday there and the server was rude. Food tasted rushed, definitely NOT authentic jamaican taste, NOT worth the money and server DID NOT derseve 20% tip! Ruined my expectations and experience.
Chubby s has a great atmosphere that really gives off a fun, authentic vibe, with a solid music selection playing in the background. I ordered the rum punch, which was strong and spot-on definitely a highlight! The portions were generous, especially the rice and peas, oxtail, and plantains. While the food was good, and I ve had some fantastic Jamaican dishes before, my one recommendation would be for the oxtail to be more tender, falling off the bone. Overall, it s a solid spot!
Great place and amazing jerk chicken! Went for a girls catchup and we ordered the large jerk chicken and other dishes to share among 6 of us and it was filling! Food : 4/5
Whoever the hostess was tonight (Oct 24, 2024) was rude, dismissive, and seemed to move so slowly one wonders why she is even in the service industry to begin with. Definitely a huge turn off and left a bad taste in our mouth. Food and cocktails are great, as always.
Loved having Tiffany as my server, great server
Tiffany gave excellent service and recommendations would come back for her
I had a wonderful time coming in after work. I was craving some bomb Caribbean food and I was taken well care of by my server Tiffany. The music was also on point when I came.
Food was great and our server Tiffany was amazing!
amazing! wonderful recommendations and service from Tiffany!
Amazing food but also amazing service! Tiffany was a great sever! Would recommend!
Genadyne was truly the best ever
Food was just okay. The service was bad.
Great food, great service and a wonderful atmosphere!
Whether youre a local or a tourist, Chubbys is a must visit. My table loved everything we ordered. The wings are delicious as is the Mac and cheese. I also recommend the fried okra and curried Goat. Our server Genadyne was amazing and took our experience over the top.
Great staff, atmosphere, and food. Really enjoyed the it
Came in and had a great experience with Jenelle! She gave great recommendations for the drinks and food. Had lots of fun vibing to the music and with our server.
Food was OK but water from pipes kept dripping on us and our table an no one seemed to care - they only offered to move us at end of our meal so we declined
Jamaican food is typically a far more casual experience in Toronto, so its nice to see a restaurant offering a full dine-in experience for Jamaican cuisine. The atmosphere of this place is excellent, fantastically decorated to give the place a unique vibe. Our reservation was minorly mishandled as we were not given our table for our reserved time, there was some delay but it was peak hours in their defense. The menu has a nice variety of items, some resembling what I know from my time on Eg West and others more gourmet spins on the fare. The cocktail menu is thoughtfully crafted as well. Overall the food quality is pretty good, but something about it gave it an Americanized take on Jamaican cuisine at the same time. A good experience overall.
It was an excellent dining experience. The staff was great, and the atmosphere was top-notch. More people need to know about this place. We had an amazing time.
Restaurant should be renamed to skinnys not chubbys because with the tiny portions of that food i felt we were rationing for the war.
Love love love this place! Amazing food! Amazing service! Great cocktail options. Must try when you are in Toronto!
My first trip to Toronto wouldnt have been complete without a visit to Chubby s, and I m so glad it was at the top of my list. It definitely lived up to all the hype and more! I highly recommend making a reservation, as the place was buzzing even on a Monday night. We were lucky to be seated fairly quickly as walk-ins, but it s definitely a good idea to plan ahead. The atmosphere at Chubby s is the perfect mix of cozy and chic, with dim lighting that creates a romantic vibe ideal for a date night or a fun evening with friends. Now, the food wow. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend and I shared the oxtail soup, medium jerk chicken, and fried plantains. The jerk chicken was, hands down, the best I ve ever had (and I ve had my fair share in Dallas, TX). But it was the fried plantains that truly stole my heart crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, just perfect. The oxtail soup, while flavorful, was a bit too bean-heavy for my taste (our server had warned us about that), but my boyfriend loved it and finished the entire bowl! A huge shoutout to our server, Tiffany, who made our experience even better. She was incredibly kind and took the time to walk us through the menu since it was our first time at Chubby s. She also made sure to ask about any dietary restrictions and took the time to chat with us about our visit to Toronto. Not only did she provide fantastic service, but she also gave us several great dining recommendations to try during the rest of our stay. All in all, it was a fantastic experience, and I can t wait to return next time I m in Toronto. Im jealous for anyone that lives nearby!
Great place to have lovely night in downtown.
Good food ever.
Always love to visit chubbys. While its pricey its worth it. Vegetarian options: Very veg friendly Food : 5/5 |
We live in New Jersey but we have been to Jamaica 30 times or more. I love Jamaican food. This food was as good or better than any food I ve eaten in Jamaica. There were 8 of us. Between us we had oxtail red bean soup, curry goat, jerk chicken, fried okra, fried plantains, jerk fries with aioli sauce, chicken curry, slow baked jerk wings and 4 of the deserts. Everything was seasoned well. The spice levels were perfect. Savory and delicious. The reception and service were welcoming and enthusiastic. The ambiance felt truly Jamaican. Every aspect of our dining experience was wonderful. Go, you won t be disappointed.
I have been to this spot twice before but my interaction with Shannon has not guarantee I will be back frequently His Carm, caring attentive demeanour make me fell appreciated. I ordered a flight of Guyana El Dorado rum and after some small talk he offered me a Ell Dorodo Planation which i have yet to taste The soup was amazing and with apologies to my Rasta friend the jerk Arnold was amazing
I honestly can t say enough good things. We are from the western United States, and after having brunch at Chubby s Jamaican Kitchen on a girls trip I texted my husband back home and told him that we had to make another trip to Toronto so he could eat there too! The jerk fried chicken with pineapple waffles was mind blowingly good. Loved the fake id mocktail. Everything was top notch, plus the staff was SO pleasant and the AMBIANCE!!!!! The ambiance was INCREDIBLE!!!! Decor was just perfection. I so wish this restaurant was local to me so I could be a regular there!!
The food was great! Vegetarian options: Plantain/ mac n cheese, etc Parking: Summer patio dining recommended. Jerk chicken is done on an open grill
I dined here today for brunch. 10/10 in all aspects. My server Janelle was great checked in multiple times through your meal. The food was great & the atmosphere was nice. Also the drinks were fantastic! Was very pleasantly surprised. Only think I d ask is u add stew chicken to the breakfast menu or swap one of the current items for it. Thank you Chubby s for a great experience!
Delicious food, well-thought out menu. The service could definitely be better. It felt like the servers didnt own their tables. Theyd walk past you without checking in if youre ready to order / needed something else etc. We had to work so hard to grab someones attention to place our order after being sat with the menu for 15 minutes. Always come here for the food, never for much else.
Excellent. Get the goat it s a huge miss if you don t.
Food: Authentic flavours - delicious, layered, complex flavours, good portion sizes. Chicken wings - slightly small, a bit dry, not a huge hit with our group, flavours were good (dry rubbed) not our favourite. Festival - delicious. Saltfish Fritters - spicy and delicious, an aioli or sauce wouldve added to the dish. Salsa was tasty. Ackee & saltfish bites - yummy, would definitely recommend. Rose sangria was delicious as well. The only main critique I have is the seating limit. We felt rushed out of the restaurant even though it wasnt very busy and we were eating at 4pm and planned to order more food, we werent even offered a look at desserts before our server (no fault of hers) was asking us how we wanted to split our meals. There was plenty of empty space in all levels of the restaurant including on the patio so it was disappointing and felt arbitrary. Additionally, the washrooms were not well maintained and although there is one washroom on the ground floor, the hostesses directed people to the upper levels of the house which isnt very accessible for those with mobility issues. Overall, a nice experience but some rigidity which took away from the experience.
The problem with global food in a city like Toronto is that everyone wants to see their cultural represented in the city but no one wants to pay Toronto prices for food they can get at home. I think Chubbys pulled this off really well. The oxtail and peas and rice were good but things I was used to. The chickpeas and plantain mash took the meal to another level. All three as a meal had me blown away. The interior design was also stunning. It was a rare moment that I forgot that I was in Canada and felt like I was back home.
Jerk chicken was really tasty and flavorful, the drinks were too strong for me and I tried three of them but didn t drink!
Great food and service. Cool place. Will definitely be back.
I m a chicken wing connoisseur and these ones are hot with a kick just the way I like it. The jerk chicken is unreal. My wife really enjoyed her pepper shrimp and I could not resist to eat a few off her plate. Overall deliciousness.
Bartender was extremely knowledgeable and kind. Beautiful place!
Genadyne was exceptionally professional and kind- taking time to explain the menu, all with a warm hearted smile She was a great introduction to Chubby s whose cuisine excelled our expectations. Fly back to Toronto for another Chubby experience. Hope to see Genadyne too!
The service and atmosphere are great here - its just too bad that the food isnt as good. The oxtail stew was bland (just a bit of salty flavor and that was all), and the jerk burger was a simple burger with no jerk flavor to speak of. The aki & saltfish bites were the only thing that I enjoyed. Also, this is a personal preference thing, but basmati rice for rice & peas???
No pictures because I was too busy scraping. I ve been here for Brunch and Dinner, the food is authentic. Ask for some pepper sauce because the jerk is flavourful but lacking the scotch bonnet. Family style is the best way to go so you can get a bit of everything. This is a go to spot, especially if you want to introduce someone to Jamaican cuisine, with a nice atmosphere, and not paying extortionate prices.
Best Caribbean food we ve ever had, love the vibe!
Food is amazing, everything we had was right on the spot in every possible way. Service is kind, super friendly and professional. If you are in Toronto Chubby s is a must have to visit.
The jerk chicken is unreal. Like the best I ve ever had. That and the fries (surprisingly!) are 11/10.
I m sorry to leave a negative review but I am certainly disappointed. Upon arrival, I was given a tiny table that stuck in between some columns. I stood there and tried to fix the chairs so that we could sit more comfortably. The server came by and asked me if everything was okay. I told her that the table was a little cramped. She said nothing and then walked away. Fortunately, both me and my friend were on the skinny side, so we just sat down. The restaurant was not really busy, they could definitely have given us a better table. As for the food, the taro fries are just way too salty, we could only finish half. It was not a big bowl of fries but it was too salty and I had to order a glass of coke, but the coke came with 4 big pieces of ice in a slim glass and that coke had practically no air bubbles in it. It felt like it s been sitting in the fridge for at least half an hour. When we asked the server why, she said it was definitely come from a can and they don t have one of those spouts for pops. Here I think, because the glass with the ice can probably hold less than half of a can of coke. Yes, they might come from a can but definitely not a new one. When we mentioned about the salty fries, the server just said yes, they are salty and walked away. I wonder if they deserve the Michelin recommendations. I definitely will not go back there.
We are fairly regular take out customers of Chubby s. Over the last couple of years I have noticed a decline in the quantity of meat given. I normally get the pomegranate salad with chicken breast - the chicken breast was so tiny for $11. My husband got the oxtail and same thing. - very little meat. We used to love the food but for the current price point there are better options. Another nit is that you have to pay for hot sauce. There is not a West Indian restaurant on the planet that charges for this. Really cheap and annoying!
Literally the best Caribbean food ever. I ve been twice and it was 10/10 A waiter named Sid gave us 5star service highly recommend this place!! I m also from United States Food
I had the best experience at Chubby s, thanks to Nadia, our server. We were seated on the patio, and honestly, it felt like I was a guest at someone s home so cozy and inviting. Im vegan, and Nadia went above and beyond to accommodate me, and to make sure I got to try as many things as possible! S/O to the jerk chips and veggie stew She was so friendly and chill, made the whole vibe even better, and her drink recommendations were spot on it was like she knew exactly what I wanted without me even having to say it. Definitely coming back SOON
Chubbys has not failed to dissapoint once yet! Chubbys has been a family favourite for over 5 years now and every time we visit we are delighted by the energetic staff, vibrant decor and island vibes! Our sever Nadia has been fantastic and has exceeded expectations. From her warmth, positive energy, and superior knowledge of the menu items she made our experience that much more enjoyable. Nadia was able to accommodate our friends vegan dietary restrictions and was able to recommend meat free options that were delicious. I would highly recommend visiting chubbys and ordering their veggie stew. The drinks are immaculate and the service, even better. Thank you Nadia for our wonderful experience once again at Chubbys! Vegetarian options: The veggie stew is vegan and delicious! Highly reccomend. Dietary restrictions: The veggie stew is vegan and delicious! Highly reccomend.
Guaranteed good times, service was amazing thanks to Nadia who was so friendly and informative. Happy days on the Rum punch.
Ill need to come back!
Great ambience, good music and food.
Average of three stars. The jerk chicken was charcoal-coated (overcooked) and very dry. The rice and beans were dry. Not much flavour. I had expected more from this restaurant. On the other hand, the tables, ambiance, and service were very nice.
We tried Jamaican food for the first time here. It was delicious!! The staff were also very attentive and atmosphere is a great. We cant wait to come back.
Had the pleasure to experience Chubbys for the first time today with my fam. All of us thoroughly enjoyed all that we had... from the rum flight, to the Rum Punch, the Jamaican Mule, the Jamaican Traditional Breakfast, the Oxtail Poutine, Mac n Cheese, The Rum Bread Pudding .... everything was delicious. The kitchen graciously made some dietary need changes and Tiffany and all the staff were kind, attentive and awesome. We will definitely be back! Oh...and the vibe....the tunes were so on point too! A T.O. gem .
Food was amazing and our server Nadia was awesome! Always checked in and made sure we had everything, she was great!
Great food. Lovely vibe. Make sure you eat the salt fish dumplings.
Vegetarian options: Professional options towards those all had vegetarian and gluten-free needs Kid-friendliness: Staff was very kind and friendly. They intended to tend to all dietary needs. The environment is very healthy.
definitely in the top 5 best Jamaican restaurants in GTA! The atmosphere of the restaurant made it feel like we were in the Caribbean I would highly recommend this restaurant to anybody looking for good vibes & food 10/10
Jerk pork was dry. Jerk Chicken was a lot better.
Two thumbs up for Corey! We sat at the bar for some drinks and had a great time thanks to him + some delicious cocktails of course
Amazing! Try the ox tail.
Went for a date night. Already had a reservation but had to wait for 10-15 mins for table which I did not like honestly. The table size was extremely small I think. If you order more than 2 dishes at the same time, there is no place on the table. Lighting was very low, however liked the theme overall.
Were were vacationing in Toronto and searched online for best restaurants. This one came up and sounded interesting so off we went. Great authentic food and a cool vibe transported us to Jamaica for the evening. Matthew our server was great ! The food and drinks were spot on . Happy hour specials made it a reasonable evening. Highly recommend.
Omg, what a great place to enjoy a great drinks and great food. The service is amazing so friendly and the music is woww. Coming back soon even if I live far from here. Helloooouuu Chubbys we come back. After moving to Vaughan my husband and I just missed this place so much. But we return and as always they give us a great experience. Rebecca in the bar area was so lovely and kind making our evening so delightful. We have a couple of red stripes and snacks here. The music just make your shoulders to move without noticing. All the staff super attentive Chubby family you guys are making a good example of service in this city. Thanks again. Vegetarian options: I had. Delicious curry, with eggplant, plantains and roasted chickpeas. And I saw more goodies in the menu.
Ms Chubby is such a pleasant lady. The young Hispanic lady at the front (I forgot her name sry) was so nice! Customer service was a 10! The food was so good. I tried the curry chicken, my son had oxtail, and hubby had ackee and saltfish. Food was definitely good! Made with love! We were traveling from Florida and if ever in Canada again, we would definitely go back!
Very disappointing. Our delivery order was so tiny. The order in the picture was $40 + delivery fee + tip. $60. The tiny mac and cheese was $19 and wouldn t have fed one of my kids, let alone two. But they hated it and I had to make them other food. We ordered two small jerk chickens, but the portions of chicken were tiny and no rice. Flavour of chick was meh . I tried to call the to see if it was wrong, but just an answering machine. Not worth it. Lots of other great food and better value in the neighborhood.
Good place to get Jamaican food. We thought the lamb and oxtail were good. If I would say anything, their jerk chicken was a little bland. Needed more flavor. The service was really good, everyone was smiling and helpful. Great interior design
I visited Chubbys over a year ago and Ive been thinking about the jerk chicken ever since. Im counting down the days to when Im able to eat here again.
Chubbys in Toronto has the best vibe. I follow a gluten-free diet and always have delicious options here. Im obsessed with the wings and kale salad. And their juices and cocktails are hands down some of the best Ive had in the city. Its my go-to spot for a quick drink before an event or fun dinner in the city!
We has curry chicken. Small jerk chicken. Jerk chips and dip and ackee and saltfish bites. We got seated at the bar just wished the seat had a back on it. Food was good. The jerk chicken was tasty however which there was more flavour. No complaints really. Next time I will book a reservation for better seating
Our first higher-end Jamaican restaurant and it didnt disappoint. The food presentation looks like any other fast food joint, but the difference in quality of taste is there. Would recommend to try at least once.
Great selection - I chose to go with a kale salad and added the jerk shrimps.. It was delicious!? Food
Zach is the best host I ve had the pleasure of dealing with in my short time in Toronto, always welcoming. Great food and atmosphere too! Keep it up Zach and co!
We had an amazing time at Chubbys! The food was top-notch. Although they were out of the rum punch, our server recommended the Everything Nice which was a great choice- so tasty. The fried snapper was the standout dish and absolutely delicious. The cozy, intimate space made it the kind of place where you could easily linger for a while. The atmosphere, with the open doors and windows allowing a refreshing breeze along with the music, really transported me to Jamaica. Its the perfect spot for anyone looking to enjoy flavorful Jamaican fusion in a relaxed setting.
Amazing food!! Great decor and service as well! We sat on a U-couch upstairs and it was very comfy. We considered the patio or main floor, but both were two loud for our liking. I got the plantain and chickpea stew, which was delicious but a little small. So I ordered the jerk tempeh, which was also very good and better than I anticipated! My partner got the curry chicken and his brother got the jerk chicken. They were both very happy! We also shared the fried okra, which was a great choice! I do wish there were some more vegetarian/vegan options, however. Overall, it was a great experience and I would absolutely eat there again!!!
Worst experience they dont know how to talk with coustomer
I have mostly gone for happy hour (thank you, Chubbys!!) but find their food super great. I love spicy food though so watch out for the shrimp if you dont. High fives all around.
If you go to Toronto, visit this restaurant. The food is so good and the service top not forgetting the good atmosphere. I highly recommend!!!!
Good jamaican food!
Deelicious!!!
The food is great, we tried the goat curry, the pepper shrimp, jerk chicken and fried plantain. Even though the portions look small everything is very flavorful and we left feeling satisfied. The service is ok. We had to ask for the menus and the water but we overlooked it as the food was amazing.
The food was AMAZING! Delicious and full of flavor. Also nice serving size. The place is really cute and the vibe was great due to some r&b music playing. I loved this papaya hot sauce so much that I bought a whole bottle.
I love Chubbys. I love the vibe, the food and the service. Ive been there once right before last call so I will update this review with more details but they made me feel right at home. The food was dynamic and impressed the simple tastes of my husband and the dynamic tastes I enjoy. The jerk chicken dinner could use a sauce to make the meal less dry since the coleslaw is also dry. I liked my shrimp appie a lot. The heat was great. Good location for a late stroll in downtown too for entertainment, an app or pub crawl.
First time there yesterday for a birthday. Won t be back. not sure what all the hype is about. the ambiance is amazing thats it! drinks are WAYYYY overpriced for what you get and not worth it. Oxtail was a bit tough and not much meat, seems it was lightly seasoned with a bunch of browning. coleslaw was crap. jerk shrimp tasted nothing like jerk plus it was cold and needed seasoning. HOT SAUCE IS AMAZING!!!!
Guess it s my fault for taking a recommendation from TikTok but this food is not good. For the first time I actually sent my food back after one bite. Jerk Pork - this was like a pork chop with spicy bbq sauce poured on top. Every time I ve had jerk pork it s been slow roasted and full of flavor with no need for a sauce to top it. This was the exact opposite lacking flavor and poorly cooked making it very dry. Curry Goat - the flavor on this also lacked depth. It was very salty and on the back end you got a little spice but nothing exciting. The potatoes seem to be added in after precooking and there weren t any whole pieces of meat; mostly bones and chopped meat that likely fell off throughout the day. I d rather them say hey it s the end of the night we don t have that dish left. Plantains - these were great! Fried well with a sprinkle of coarse salt for a nice balance. Best part of my meal. Passa passa drink- also a let down. There was a smoky taste from the mezcal but not enough ginger Overall just extremely disappointing for a place with great reviews. The ambiance was nice and service great so I can see it being a great spot for drinks but nothing more. $50USD total for one person to leave unsatisfied is quite the disappointment.
We got the curry goat, ackee and saltfish, jerk chicken and rum and raisin bread pudding. All was very tasty. The meals are medium sized, the music is nice and the interior design of the restaurant is good. The service was alright not amazing but definitely not bad. Overall it was a very enjoyable eating experience and I definitely plan on coming again.
Best West Indian food Ive enjoyed in a while.Definitely a repeat.Im going to try and get my family there
Tried the Jerk Chicken, the texture was great but not enough flavour. I found the portion sizes small and left hungry.
Appetizers pretty good. I liked how the rum punch wasn t too strong. Burger was great. Not too impressed with the curry chicken, they should ve poured off the oil.
Great Jamaican flavours. The jerk wings and oxtail was fantastic.
Delightful atmosphere and outstanding food, what more can you ask for? One of my favorite spots in downtown Toronto. They were accommodating to my whole family even without a reservation. Well deserving of both Michelin stars!
The pepper shrimp is way too spicy, the jerk pork does not taste authentic or jerked and the coleslaw is really off-smelling. The bread, pudding and corn pudding dessert was underwhelming overall the best thing on the menu was the cocktails.
The minute that you step onto the property the authenticity SHOWS! Our waitress Tia was so sweet, kind, and attentive. She offered her menu suggestions and they did not disappoint! The rum punch was perfect. Perfect amount of spice in the food, very flavorful. She also gave us great spaces to visit while in Toronto and she sent us EXACTLY where I wanted to be! Tia, if you see this. I let them know you gave me a referral at House of Moses and the sugar cane juice was PHENOMENAL!!! (I also told him he owes you a free juice for it!!)
Great spot! Love all the food, really nice cocktails. Have been recommending this place to everyone!
Amazing vibes and service.Pepper shrimp was average.Jerk chicken was good , but the best thing was the chicken curry. It was very tasty.but the rice could be less mushy.
Delicious food and good atmosphere, but be prepare for the spicy food.
The food was very tasty. Great atmosphere. For the price, the dishes were too small and not filling. For a curry goat and chicken meal most Caribbean restaurants include rice and two sides like cooked veggies, potatoes, plantains at no extra charge.
Dietary restrictions: Pescatarian option Food
We came for a birthday celebration. Great spot in Toronto. Love the cocktail drinks
Great food, flavor, service, atmosphere, & most importantly vegan friendly Highly recommend. Detail review: --------- Food - HIGHLY RECOMMEND the chickpea & eggplant curry dish Its vegan. Flavor - It was my first time trying Jamaican cuisine, so I didnt know what to expect. The eggplant dish I got was splendid!! Like I finished the whole thing, no crumbs left kinda amazing! Perfect sweet & savory blend, crispy chickpeas, sweet squash! Wow. The vegan jerk tempeh I got was okay. It was crumbled tempeh stirred in jerk sauce served with lime+yogurt side (this was not vegan so you can ommit this). It had a barbecue flavor, and was sticky in texture. Menu & vegan options available - Weekends, brunch menu till 3pm & lunch/dinner menu after 3pm. I have attached the brunch menu options in my pics. The brunch menu has very limited vegan options (1-2). SO, I recommend doing the after 3pm menu as that has a few more options (3-4). Ambience - The place is stunning. They have an outdoor patio, indoor seating, and something upstairs. They have amazing music playing, the place is colorful, and overall a nice vibe. Service - Our server was friendly, helpful, and overall efficienct. She was able to accommodate orders from 2 separate menus as we came at the in-between time & we wanted separate things from each. Price - My dish was 19$ & the tempeh jerk side was 8$. Id say this is within standard GTA food pricing range. Was the price:portion ratio good? Id say so. Its a decently filling meal for 1 person. Drinks - They have a cocktail menu too which were rum based mostly. I was looking for more mango drinks options but only saw one. Hope they have more options the next time I visit Bottom line? A MUST visit place. Ill be going back. Vegetarian options: Vegan & vegetarian both available.
Great atmosphere, fast service and food is exceptionally good. The pepper shrimp is easily the best shrimp I ve EVER had in my life. I m somewhat of a shrimp addict, so I know what I m talking about.
You MUST visit this place if you are in the area. Trust me. You will enjoy it. It is recommended that you call for reservations because it is an extremely popular place. Everything was wonderful. The staff are all wonderful and accommodating. Tell them what you need, and theyll do their best to make it happen. I had the Rum Punch with Curried Goat, and it was all delicious. I wanted to try a dessert but had no more room for anything. Please try this place out. You will not be dissatisfied.
Highly recommend, everything was incredibly tasty and flavoured. Portions are the perfect size as well.
Food is so good and has a really good presentation. The place is beautiful. I suggest to make a reservation in advance because place is always busy.
The food was great and the service was great . Definitely would go back
Atmosphere is really cool nice vibes and the food was amazing. Got recommended to come here from a friend when I go to Toronto and it did not disappoint.
The food was amazing. Enjoyed the experience as well. Also great service and in a great location to other places downtown.
This elevated Jamaican cuisine experience did not disappoint!! I ordered the ackee and saltfish bites to start and their rum punch. O M G!!! It was so GOOD! Our server s recommendation was spot on. My entree was the curry goat and added sautéed greens. My only disappointment was forgetting to take photos before digging in. The ambience was reminiscent of being in Jamaica with the greenery, open pit grill, and Caribbean music. Definitely a fan.
delicious!
Love the vibe and basically everything as this delicious Jamaican restaurant!! The food and portion sizes were great and some real creative cocktails! I will be back to try more of their amazing menu!
More of a finger food place, but their mocktails are great!
love the sangrias. the jerk tempeh was too salty. oxtail stew was ok. love love love the shrimp
The food was very disappointing. I went for brunch. The Oxtail was decent but the hash potato was the worst Ive ever had. The eggs Benny could be so much better.
Got there an hour after they opened. We were told they didn t have the whole snapper, curry goat nor oxtail classic Jamaican cook shop move. I thought those Michelin signs on the front of the building meant something but I guess not. My auntie cook shop back home makes them look like they aren t even trying. We also ordered the pan seared snapper that came with sweet potatoes and I overheard the cook saying to the waiter that it would be a 30min process to make the sweet potatoes and that he wasn t going to waste all that time to make them. At that point we should ve got up and left so that s my bad, I asked for a Wray and Pepsi and the waiter told me he have to go check if they have enough wray. How is a Michelin star restaurant opening its doors for service knowing they don t have some of the most popular things on there menu, it was also a Tuesday I would ve been more understanding if it was on the weekend.
Amazing place, wonderful service and absolutely delicious food. The Ackee and salt fish is my new favourite dish. The curry shrimp and curry chicken were absolutely amazing too!
Enjoyed a lovely lunch. Great vibe and the cocktails are worth a try.
We ordered their oxtail, goat curry, jerk chicken, and plantain. We enjoyed the food however, the portions were small. Service was slow and inattentive. We had a reservation and got sat down right away. However, it took our server about 15-20 mins to greet us and take our order. We got our food in a timely manner and it was good. However, we never saw our server after food was dropped off. Typically they should come at least once to check how everything was tasting or if we needed anything else. I wanted to order more food but unfortunately, our server wasn t anywhere to be found. After we finished, it took another 10-15 mins of waiting until we saw our server to get our bill.
Without a doubt, one of the best meals of my life! The service was great and it s such a lovely restaurant, but it doesn t even matter cause the food was that good!
First timer today, me and my son order the Ackeee and salt fish bites very nice ,we oder the curry goat it was a great disappointment no curry it was stew goat and Indian flavor please use Jamaican curry when you are cooking Jamaican curry goat the service and atmosphere was fine nice setting .
first time in toronto and my mom found this place, the oxtail is probably some of the best i ve ever had in my entire life.
I visited Chubby s Jamaican Restaurant in Toronto for my birthday, and honestly, it was a letdown. The food was a knock-off version of what Jamaican cuisine should be. The saltfish flitters were salt The oxtails were tough like literally half done! They weren t even falling off the bone such a disappointment. The wait time was long, which only added to the frustration. I ended up eating some of the food because I was starving, and I m not from Toronto, just touring, but honestly, the food is a no-go. The drinks were okay, but that s about it. Definitely not the experience I was hoping for on my special day.
It looked beautiful inside for the few seconds I was there to pick it up. Food wise it might be the best plantains and jerk chicken Ive had. So delicious.
This was an awesome night of food and drinks. The Jamaican mule was tasty and just right in strength. Our waiter, Matthew, was friendly and knowledgeable. The salt fish fritters were authentic and done on light airy fried dumplings. It was an excellent choice on the cool s part to pair the curry goat with jasmine (not regular) rice and to sprinkle the sweet plain tins with a little Maldon salt. Only thing would say is drop some more scotch bonnet and ginger in the curry goat, but overall a splendid dining experience.
This restaurant is fantastic! The staff is incredibly welcoming and accommodating, making you feel right at home. The food is phenomenal, and the ambiance is perfect for a fun night out that lets you escape the daily grind.
Ok, so lemme tell yall this: not only do I LOVE FOOD, I can cook VERY well too! Chubbys is ok. I feel theyre trying to do too much to simple Jamaican dishes and essentially end up missing the mark of the authentic taste of Jamaican food. Not to mention, once I can cook the meal better, the restaurant isnt worth going to and spending money. The service isnt the best either.....
Delicious food, exactly what I was hoping for. The curry goat was tender & perfectly seasoned. Fun, casual atmosphere with quick & friendly service. So glad we ate here.
Loved the ginger beer. The rest of the food was spot on, simple but exactly right.
My partner and I really wanted to like Chubbys, but ultimately we did not enjoy the food or service. We came on a weeknight at 7:30pm, and it took our server over 10mins to offer any water. We ordered the pepper shrimp, jerk wings, oxtail stew, curry goat, and jerk chicken to share; flavours were very mediocre. Then again, the server took a long time to just get the bill. Overall, everything was very meh, and would recommend going to Patois on Dundas instead.
Amazing food and ambience! The rum punch, jerk chicken and pepper shrimp are 10/10! Definitely recommend!
What a find. I ve been recommended this place by some local friends. And they also specifically recommend to try the chicken wings. They were right. It s an absolute gem! I went for lunch on a Monday. Sat in the outdoor patio. Had the wings and the fried plantain. Finished up with a coconut ice cream. All delicious. I m not a huge fan on chicken wings but after trying theirs, I think I m converted. Highly recommended and the staff is really kind and welcoming. Well deserved 5 stars.
The food was good, not amazing. The salt fish fritters were decent but felt more like regular fritters that lacked salt/flavour. Disappointing amount of chutney too - seemed like an afterthought just tossed in the bottom of the basket. The curried goat and oxtail were both great, good portions as well. Our waitress was too busy on her phone, brought us drinks and food and never came back to ask how we were doing, seemed annoyed when I walked up and asked her where the restrooms were. Honestly was disappointed with the experience after seeing the menu and reading others reviews. For the price, they have some work to do.
The food was really good. Like very good! The on Downside was the service. It started with the hostess making a highly inappropriate comment to me upon arrival regarding my weight. Without me asking she looked me up and down and whispered something with another host and said I should wait longer for a larger table as the table they had me at was small and I would be more comfortable at a bigger table. I was SO embarrassed as I didn t request this and it was said with a number of people waiting outside to be seated as well. And then to my surprise I was met with a table for four so two tables pushed together with 4 chairs. That made me feel even more embarrassed because I ve never had to sit on two chairs to feel comfortable ANYWHERE and we didn t use the extra chair or tables either. I ve reached out and tried calling the restaurant before posting this and have not Recieved an answer or call back. So I think it s highly appropriate to post this so those who are plus size know they could be met with fat shaming hostesses. Although the food was good I felt so awkward sitting there and it was for my boyfriend s birthday as well. Parking: Parking lot across the street paid but not a ton of space but theirs is another around the corner with more space. Parking is about $20
This place fat shamed my friend!! Do not go !!
**UPDATE: The service is much much better now!! They really worked on it. Food and drinks come faster too. Thank you for listening The food is more than delicious and the place is great but the slow service and the inexistant attention from the waiver let us down... Tell the customer if itll take time, fill our water, give the check right away when ask. Those things should be normal in a restaurant. Last note: pretty waivers yes but get them competent!
Best jerk chicken Ive ever had
The curried goat and oxtail are delicious! My only concern is the salt content. It is high and limits the amount of visits we can make to Chubbys. Other than that, the food and ambiance are on point!
Amazing food and service.
Chubby s Restaurant is an absolute Caribbean party on your plate! My latest visit was a flavor-packed adventure featuring their incredible jerk pork, wings, and crispy okra, all served with a side of fantastic vibes and stellar service. Let s start with the jerk pork. It s a fiery dance of spices that s tender, juicy, and oh-so-satisfying. Each bite packs a punch of smoky, spicy goodness that will have your taste buds doing the cha-cha! The wings at Chubby s are a must-try. Imagine biting into crispy perfection with a burst of juicy flavor inside. Whether you re a fan of spicy jerk or tangy BBQ, these wings are mini flavor fiestas that ll keep you coming back for more. And then there s the okra crispy, golden, and absolutely addictive. Even if okra isn t usually your thing, Chubby s fried version might just change your mind. It s crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside, and totally delicious. But wait, there s more! The vibe at Chubby s is as awesome as the food. The place has a laid-back, friendly atmosphere that makes you want to kick back and enjoy the good times. The staff are super attentive and cheerful, making sure you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. In a nutshell, Chubby s Restaurant is a fun-filled culinary escapade. With amazing jerk pork, killer wings, and delightful okra, plus a vibe that s all about good times and great service, it s the perfect spot for a memorable meal. Get ready to eat, laugh, and enjoy every moment!
The food was great! Our waitress was also great, very attentive.
Was only able to go to happy hour so did not have a full menu selection. What I did have was good especially the fish fritters, pepper shrimp and rum punch. Something tells me anything fried, they are knocking it out the park! The watercress and papaya salad was not exactly worth $18 but I needed some roughage amongst the fried stuff. The waitress was nice and attentive. It was so hot upstairs that I rushed through the meal with the spicy shrimp and got some on my shirt lol. Not many people upstairs so cant speak to the overall vibe. All in all, a good happy hour.
Really delicious food and tons of vegan options. Mocktails are reasonably priced and flavourful. Very busy so book ahead of time. A little cramped for large groups. Service was slower but very friendly (and we were seated at peak time). Great music though a bit too loud for group conversation.
This restaurant has a Michelin star and I understand why!! Very delicious. No patties tho Food : 5/5
Very good.
Jerk chicken wings were goood & the interior/ambience were so nice!
Not accessible, no ramp to get inside.
Ill start by saying that the servive was absolutely incredible, our server was very good. On the other hand, portions were atrocious even for toronto. I initially ordered the quesadillas. When they came, I noticed that the actual quesadilla, the space between the 2 tortillas, was MORE THAN HALF EMPTY. Nothing inside. Air. I shouldve taken a picture. The server immediately offered to have it re-made, or to replace it with something else. I got the Oxtail Stew. The taste was fine, but it was (I kid you not) about 90% bone. This one I did take a picture of. There was, in fact, so much bone that I was asked if I wanted to take the rest of my meal home......... but there was actually no meal left in the bowl. My friend got the poutine. It was basically sized for a child. Out of a part of 5, none of us will return here.
oxtail red bean soup and ackee & saltfish bites was delicious!! Big up yaself Chubbys!!
Everything about this place is amazing. The food: 10/10 so delicious. Best jerk chicken Ive ever had Cocktails are great The carrot cake is perfect The staff are super nice, friendly and helpful. Special shout out to our server Vanessa for being awesome. The overall vibe is so chill HIGHLY recommend!!!
Great music and atmosphere but thats pretty much it. Food was terrible. Ive had better food at cheaper Caribbean places. The service was also horrible.
Delicious food, amazing cocktails and great service! Love it! Will be back:)
So good I try to come here as often as I can, definitely a favourite when I m in town. Service was good, cocktail was amazing, food always flavourful and cooked proper thank yall for always delivering.
What a great vibe in here
Had a really good experience at Chubbys. The server was great, and the atmosphere was awesome. Tried so many things on the menu, and I can honestly say that everything was on point. the drinks were also made with love. I will definitely go back.
Omg the Oxtail was sooooo good! Loved it!!!
Some VERY good bites of food, and pretty good service. I imagine its a different vibe at night vs my experience which was a corporate lunch crowd. The beauty of king west!
incredible brunch spot! went here for my bday recently and had the best time! everyone loved the food and the interior of the restaurant is so fun/ pretty! recommend the chicken and waffles - the pineapple jam/ sauce was sooo sweet and complimented the chicken really well will definitely be coming back to try more of their menu
A very popular destination for a reason: good food, good service, good vibes, good music and fun ambiance. The ample menu offers delicious dishes, with as only exception perhaps, the desserts, slightly blander. Our server Foster, not only very handsome, is efficient and will win you over with his charm and smile. XX Overall, we left very satisfied.
The quality of food has declined. 2 bite chicken wings.
The food is delicious, the cocktails too and the atmosphere is super festive! I recommend being able to book in order to be sure of having a place.
Two stars for really good cocktails and decor but food left much to be desired.
This is a casual laid back restaurant with a tropical ambience that serves Jamaican inspired food and beverages. There is a nice selection of vegetarian options along with the traditional Jamaican jerk offerings. I had the red bean oxtail soup, fried okra and a salad and all the items were delicious. The ginger beer was refreshing and complemented my meal nicely. The house made pepper sauce was flavourful and zesty. The service staff was courteous and professional. The portion sizes were generous and the prices reasonable. I would definitely dine here again and highly recommend this place to those that enjoy Caribbean/Jamaican cuisine.
Good service and nice vibe but the food was not good at all. All of the dishes lacked flavor and I tried multiple dishes: ox tail, jerk wings, rice and peas, and whole snapper. Everything was dry and flavorless. I think this restaurant is definitely overhyped.
Very good food and great atmosphere
Friendly and efficient services, good vibe, tasty food and cocktail.
Chubby s was so good. The atmosphere was very chill and the food was delicious. I would definitely go back the next time I find myself in Toronto.
Shoutout to the staff! After a mix up of seating me in the wrong place, my wife, daughter, and I were able to be receive a spot on the patio. Vanessa was nothing short of amazing! Whoever comes here, if you have her just know youll be well taken-care of. The Jerk Chicken was juicy and flavorful, the jerk fries were a hit, the oxtail stew was amazing, and the ackee and saltfish had great flavor. Not to mention the casamigos cocktail I think it was, had a nice and subtle taste. Come here for the vibes and dope staff as well as the food.
(Visited on June 19/24 - 5PM Reservation for Dinner) First time here and this did not disappoint. The Vibe was absolutely amazing, the staff were super amazing and the food was really good. Jenelle J was our server and she took care of us. She was super sweet and very accommodating. There was a little mix up regarding my allergy which I dont blame her for. I told her I had a coconut allergy and to please check, just to be sure, that the Oxtail Stew wasnt made with coconut milk. She checked and we were all good. But unfortunately after a few bites I felt something was wrong. Then she realized that the beans and rice might have coconut milk, which she did confirm with the chef. Luckily being a person with allergies I already had medication which I took to rectify the situation right away. She offered to bring me just plain rice which was kind. (It was strange because I had jerk chicken and rice on a resort in Jamaica and it was NOT cooked with coconut milk or water - but I also confirmed with a Jamaican coworker that the dish is typically cooked with coconut something). ANYWAY! Island Time is DEFINITELY the best time to come here. Get a couple of plates to share, small jerk chicken - this is definitely the deal!!! Highly recommend Island Time from 3 to 6PM - just maybe when its not 30+ degrees outside; the sweat was real. Rooms upstairs, downstairs, limited washrooms. Drinks were amazing. We ordered Saltfish fritters, Fried Plantains, Slow Baked Wings, Small Jerk Plate with Coleslaw and Oxtail Stew. The Saltfish Fritters on their own are okay but with the mango slaw it gives it this really nice kick! The Fried Plantains have this salt on it that for me personally, I would have asked for more salt flakes. The pieces without salt are okay but with salt really elevates the flavour. Slow Baked Wings - GET THIS! Small Jerk Plate is a great deal for $10 for a quarter chicken and coleslaw. For the Oxtail Stew I just wish the sauce wasnt so liquidy? Im sure its supposed to be like that but I would have personally thickened it up, just a tiny tiny tiny bit. If youre looking for an after work joint this place should definitely go on your list!
Amazing food and service! Will definitely be back.
