596 Danforth Ave, Toronto, ON M4K 1R1, Canada
Cheerful outpost with an island vibe & a patio specializing in traditional Jamaican dishes.
Came here last night for a quick dinner with my friend. Such cozy vibes at this restaurant, the people there are sweet and the snapper was amazing. Definitely a new fav in the city
Let me crystal clear about what I am about to mention. The jerk chicken is superb, I have ordered and picked up many pounds of just the Jerk chicken. Great services and the other items have been marvelous with each bite, it all tastes amazing!
Ordered oxtail and jerk chicken. Oxtail was amazing!! Jerk chicken is great but still prefer the oxtail! Definitely should try!! Totally recommend!
Was stuck in the hospital for almost 2 weeks. Decided to order some soul food, away from home. Took a blind chance with God's help, and was divinely directed to this fine establishment. God is always right. Seriously this food gave me the energy to shave off 3 to 4 days off my hospital stay. No joke. The food gave me some kind of power. So delicious. Amen
Food was delicious & portion size was great! Be aware that they only do takeout style, so no table service, but you can eat at the tables they have. Server was not friendly at all, a bit stand-offish. Food took 30+ mins to come with no apology for the delay.
My wife and I were in the Pape and Danforth area and were looking for somewhere to eat. We came across Simone's Caribbean Restaurant and my wife, being of Jamaican descent, wanted to give this place a try. What we found was great and disappointing all at the same time. The place is just a stone's throw from the TTC Pape Subway Station, which is a great location to be in. The place is nice inside and feels very welcoming and so was the staff. There was a strange thing standing out to us, when we spoke to the person behind the counter, they explained that we can dine in, but everything is served in take-out containers. We were both very confused by this set up, but gave the food a try. My wife ordered Barbecued Chicken with rice and peas, with a side order of Festival. She loved the rice and peas, but she was disappointed with the Chicken. She said it was a little dry and only the skin had any real flavor. She liked the festival and said it was cooked well. I had the Jerk Chicken Salad, as the idea was interesting. I was very happy with it and the Jerk Chicken spice was very well balanced with the coolness of the salad. It was a great meal. We both got Beef patties to go and had them later on and found them to be decent and a great snack for later in the day. In closing, we found Simone’s a mixed bag. Some things were great while some were ok. The place not being a true “eat-in” restaurant, even though it is set up as such, was a little strange, but all in all it was a good experience and we will be back. If you want some good Caribbean take-out and live in the area, this is a great place to give a try.
We ordered takeout from Simone’s for the first time tonight. Not only was this the best Caribbean food I’ve had, it was honestly one of the best meals of my life. We ordered jerk chicken with rice and peas, and oxtail with Johnny cakes. Both came with a side of coleslaw and we added an order of cod fish fritters. Everything was incredible. The portions are very generous so we thought we would have leftovers for lunch tomorrow, but everything was so good that we couldn’t stop eating. There was a bit of a wait for the order (30min) but I would wait 3 hours for this happily if I had to. Service was also friendly. Thank you to the Simone’s team for a wonderful dinner
Simone’s was always my go to place for Caribbean food. With the Pandemic and moving away from my old place, I haven’t been able to visit in years. Man did I miss it. Jerk chicken is delicious and they provide healthy portions. I would recommend getting a side of plantains as well to round off the meal. If you’re in the area and you want good food make sure to stop by Simone’s.
I went to simone restaurant for take out around 615pm for soup I told the cashier lady my order within 5seconds she brought my soup to me I ask her how you make this soup so fast she said it was a previous order I told her I dont want that soup ,I will take a jerk chicken dinner ,she said but sir with a a attitude cutting her eyes at me as she walk towards the kitchen, as she want back there ,her and another work colleague the cook i supposed said something about me and start laughing out loud , Simone please check the cameras of how your employees are treating the costumers also the jerk chicken dinner I got the chicken taste old and stale. Please tell your employees to respect the customers that come there I dont need to buy food here but I love supporting my culture. I wont be coming back to this location or recommending anyone to this place. Also if she the cashier and the cook is mocking me and laughing at me ,which we the customers are paying her wages .then this is not the first time she have done this she act like I was begging to be served. Her behavior and attitude was very absurd. I definitely will not be coming to your restaurant anymore . Treat others the way you want to be treated
Favourite Jamaican restaurant in the neighbourhood. I get takeout from here all the time. Portions sizes are large and price is right. Excellent jerk chicken, rice and peas, ackee, curry chicken, roti, cod fritters... the list goes on.
Everyting is Yummy! Just the Best!! We didn t take pics of the oxtail, achee/salt fish, or stewed chicken! Sorry, we were so busy eating it! It put me and my GF into a Delicious food coma! Lord gawd Simone It s the third time we have ordered take out. We would love to come and tell the chef, personally, how happy we are to have found this fantastic place! Simone s food is real Jamaican goodness!
One of the places to get the best Jamaican food on the Danforth. Classic jerk chicken and rice and peas brings me back to my childhood of living in Jamaica, visiting my grandmas house after church and she was always cooking . Everything is just soooo good!
Food was good. Customer service was incredible.
Thank you for the delicious soup and veggies patties for our TMU student event. Soup was made to perfection!
Best veggie roti I ve had in the GTA. Flavors are authentic!
I just visited this restaurant for the first time. I googled Jamaican restaurants and this had a good rating and nearby. The food is really good. I ordered the stewpeas, coleslaw and plantain. There aren t a lot of Jamaican restaurants that I go to that offer stewpeas so I had to try. I definitely will be going back. The plaintain is sweet and ripe. The coleslaw is delicious. The customer service can be up d a bit. As it was my first time I would liked a more friendly and inviting vibe. And if it s just for pick up - order ahead. I had to wait 25 mins. My container felt full and heavy so worth the $18 (although I don t like the price but that s the economy today).
Bring your own metal cutlery for an excellent dine-in lunch. I had the beef-stew roti and it was meaty and delicious. The staff were great.
Some of the best jerk in the city! Portion was amazing, gravy is perfect and the customer service was amazing. YOU HAVE TO TRY IT
By far the BEST Ackee & Saltfish in the city, with proper chunks of Saltfish and loads of falvor, I had this dish on 2 seperate occasions weeks apart and the consistency is on point, the Johnny Cakes have flavor any just the right amount of fluff. Ps:I dont give reviews easily. So give them a try and you tell me.
Great customer service by pleasant staff, clean environment, great tasting food and fast service. No word of a lie!
Some of the best Jamaican food in the City. I had the Ackee and Saltfish with plain rice and it was fire!! Added some grace pepper and I was back in Jamaica. The only small critique I would offer is that the Ackee and Saltfish was a little bit dry. The coleslaw is on point 10/10
Simply delicious!!! Simones Caribbean Restaurant has never disappoint. The quality, taste and flavour has been amazing everytime I have order here. I highly recommend trying this place if you havent yet. Recommended dishes
Honestly best jerk chicken and rice and peas I ve ever tasted jerk chicken had a nice spice to it ackee and salfish was amazing definitely going to order from here again
One of the best places in Toronto for great tasting Caribbean cuisine !!
We ordered from uber , and let me tell you something. Thats gotta be one of the best bites weve had in Toronto. Imagine how much better dining in would of been. eat here and you wont be disappointed!
My favourite place for takeout in the city - best food, best service, amazing portion sizes! Would go every night of the week if I could.
Excellent. A+
Order the Akee and Saltfish, hot and fresh! Was sooooo good!!!
Ordered oxtail dinner and ackee w/saltfish on Sunday Sept 8th via Uber eats. App said 35-45 minutes for delivery. I was still waiting after an hour. Got in contact with the delivery guy who said he d been waiting for 20 minutes with no word from the staff. When I called the restaurant directly I was told that their oven had broken down. I asked if they couldn t call me to give me the heads up I was told that they don t do that. I asked if they could have told the driver who was waiting so he could contact me and they said that they don t do that. I was abruptly put on hold and another staff member said that they had a big catering order that they were trying to finish and because they were so busy they put their Uber system on busy. Obviously this was after I placed my order. When I got my food the oxtail was TOUGH and inedible and rice tasted like yesterday s rice that was reheated. The festivals which weren t true festivals were greasy and disgusting! I ve been a walk in customer before with no problem but I will never order from them again face to face or online because of this LOUSY customer service!! Oh I got a free beef patty for my troubles
Literally the best food, we ve been ordering from here for years!!!!
Jerk chicken with rice and peas on my Mount Rushmore of Toronto takeout. Coleslaw super creamy and slaps too.
Best Jamaican food in Toronto! For the number of times I ve been here, I haven t tried their entire menu since I keep ordering the same few items I crave Jerk Chicken, Sautéed Vegetables, Saltfish & Ackee, Lamb Curry and Chana. All top tier. The service is slow so factor in 20 minutes until your order arrives but I guess its made to order and so its worth it. The ladies are very welcoming and pleasant. Like eating at someone s home.
Best service and food! This is authentic Jamaican food. Yeah Mon!
Below average Jamaican style food. Multiple dishes lack authentic flavour and tasted stale, with excess salt and salt. Side dishes equally poor, including the rice and peas are overwhelmed by a sweet coconut taste, which is not authentic Jamaican, and a sweet vanilla sauce on the coslaw -yuch. Only the dark cake was pretty good. Avoid if you want good food, let alone authentic Jamaican food.
Great food .nuff said
The stew peas with dumpling and banana is delicious. Highly recommend plus healthier choice!
Got a mix of jerk/bbq chicken and it was yummy. Good portion size and the gravy even hit the bottom of my rice :)
This place has been a staple for a while. Go have food here asap. Everything is so fresh, flavourful, and amazing and portions are huge. XOXO
Absolutely the best Jamaican restaurant in Toronto. I have tried several Jamaican/Caribbean restaurants and have left disappointed. However, having ate at Simones for the first time yesterday, it reminded me of being home in Jamaica. The food is both fresh and extremely flavorful. Well done Ms. Simone!
Amazing food and wonderful staff/ customer service
Friendly staff. Good food. Home cooked appeal. Gluten Friendly options.
Had some steamed snapper, and it brought me back to Hellshire! People who work there are also very nice.
I have been ordering consistently from Simone s this authentic, scrumptious Jamaican restaurant since February 2024 as I was ordering from another popular Jamaican restaurant in North York since 2019 in person and via Uber Eats. There have so many delicious options on their menu. My two favourites are their generous servings of Ackee & Salt fish with boiled dumplings and green banana .. which makes me feel that I am back in Jamaica on Vacation again. The different options you have for most entrees as a side. are rice and peas, plain rice, sautéed vegetables or boiled dumplings and green banana. Not too many restaurants offer, dumplings and bananas. My other favourite is their very popular Jerk Chicken. I order the meat only option.. 16oz with their large order of Yummy callaloo and one of the best coleslaw as a large order I have ever tasted. One thing I appreciate when ordering via Uber Eats every choice you are able to add instructions. On my birthday my sister physically went to Simone s restaurant and complimented on the great customer service and atmosphere. Hopefully we will both visit the restaurant together this summer. For true authentic and delicious Jamaican cuisine , I highly recommend you experience Simone s Caribbean Restaurant Vegetarian options: All yummy. Sautéed veggies , coleslaw and Callaloo.
Delicious Jamaican menu items! Have loved every one Ive tried. Well seasoned with just the right kick of spices. Too many favourites to pick just one but keep coming back for the oxtail, stew peas and Johnny Cakes!! The coconut, fruit and rum cake slices are a must to take home. Yum! Vegetarian options: A fairly good selection of Jamaican veggie dishes Parking: There is limited paid street parking on Danforth and a few Green P parking lots nearby
Food is excellent. My wife is originally from Jamaica and gives it a big thumbs up.
The jerk chicken was great but they put absolutely no gravy on the rice so it resulted in being very dry
Chicken is juicy and rice is well flavored.. Friendly owners.. Good portions.. UPDATE: Returned last Sunday and they put no gravy on the rice.. The rice was dry and barely edible. Very disappointing for $20.
Amazing oxtail! Flavourful and tender
My new favourite spot for jerk chicken!
No table service. You can order take out and eat there if youd like. Food was really good. Portion size was also generous. Friendly people. Food : 5/5
Great flavours and there is plenty to choose from! We tried the cod fritters, beef patties, roti (goat, chicken), and a few curries. All were delicious. Expect to wait a little longer on weekend evenings.
Thank you to the manager for solving my Uber issue tonight. This was my first time trying the restaurant but it wont be my last. The stewed beef with rice and peas was incredible. I am picky but this is one of the best Jamaican spots I have ever had. Its right up there with Chris jerk and Ill he recommending it to everyone I know. Cheers!
Super laidback atmosphere, and calm service. Got the barbecue chicken w/ rice and peas, coleslaw, along with the codfish fritters and everything was flavourful, plentiful, and not too heavy on the stomach as it s made with fresh ingredients. You can dine in but everything will be served in takeout containers which is a great idea, since you ll probably have leftovers!
I ordered the curry goat, oxtail, codfish fritters, pumpkin chicken soup - it was all so good! I will definitely return. Finally a Jamaican restaurant that tastes like authentic Jamaican food. I would recommend.
Shrimp Roti is my go to meal. I order from here all the time. Portion size is great.
The food here is authentic ! My wife loves the ackee. Kid loved the Johnny cakes ! Coleslaw is amazing, sweet and probably with a hint of vanilla ! Food
Great Caribbean spot! Jerk chicken was amazing. Super friendly service as well
I was in the area today and decided to come here and I wasn t disappointed. I come from a Caribbean background and the food here is authentic and tastes fantastic. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is nice. Definitely recommend coming here.
My buddy suggested this place since he said it was one of the best Caribbean spots in the city. He aint wrong Picked up oxtail and half order of jerk chicken Oxtail was very tender and full of flavor and spices with rice and peas with a heavy coconut milk taste Jerk chicken was fall off the bones with great spices and good kick of heat Both items dont miss Definitely one of the better spots in the cit 9/10
Simone s is always great. My favourite festival and rotis in the city. To whoever made my Uber order (#3B04E) today, that was the best Roti you have ever made me. I didn t know it could get better but wow. Vegetarian options: Festival and Vegetarian roti are my go to s
I have wanted to try out Simone s for a long while. Went last Thursday and was disappointed by the taste of the food. I ordered a beef patty, codfish fritters, banana fritters and the oxtail with rice and peas and coleslaw. Where to begin the beef patty was under seasoned yet was the most enjoyable part of the meal (if that tells you anything). The amount of oxtail given was good however the oxtail, gravy, and rice and peas were way too salty! The cod fritters were too salty and both the banana fritters and cod fritters were VERY oily. I had to use 10-15 paper towels to get most of the oil out of the fritters. My guess is that the oil was not hot enough before they fried the fritters leading to a large absorption of oil. Very disappointed and will not be back. I ll be trying SugarKane down the street.
We got catering. The food was fantastic!
I love supporting my Caribbean restaurants, but when u spend $50 and the packaging looks like they just flung it cheap plastic bag it erks me, then they put a cold drink in with the hot food so now the food gets cold and now the drink is hot. Then no cutlery. Presentation + Good Taste will always be memorable and nice. I d suggest to get some small containers for plantain and festival etc smaller items will be nice so you reheat it later.
Good is delicious yet it took 20 mins to get the food in a restaurant almost empty. The staff are kind and incredible. Careful with the spiked sorrel drink it s strong and delicious, making it dangerous. Food is incredible. You won t leave hungry definitely worth the price. Vegetarian options: Vegan patties are AMAZING HERE
Our go-to spot in the city for delicious and well priced Caribbean food! The best!
The food is sweet. Some places are just not consistent. But I have to say that all my meals from here have been great. Give thanks and guidance
The food here is amazing. Best Jamaican I ve had in Toronto for sure. Love the jerk chicken, rotis, callalloo and their apps.
whole menu is blessed! happy to have found a new go-to Jamaican spot in the east end.
Service was friendly and nice - authentic vibes. Food had good flavour - however they need to step it up with the rice and peas. It was like a rice pudding.
Wonderful service, great portions and AMAZING AUTHENTIC TASTE. I ordered the curry chicken roti with potato. 10/10 would recommend. Nice chunks of tender chicken, authentic curry taste, fresh bell peppers and a likkle scotchie. Perfect flavour and spice level. The service was amazing. I will definitely be back. If you need to pick up food quick, order ahead. (There is no wheelchair accessible bathroom)
Food was excellent and the service was excellent-er! I will definitely be coming back.
I always talk this restaurant up I m from New York I always recommend people to go here and every time I go to TO I always go to Simone s I had a bad experience on 12/13/23 that cashier in the evening a young lady was very rude and condescending and being a smart sarcastic rude girl when I was ordering I was going to put her in her place but chose to take the high road but I was sensing some jealousy on her side when I came in to order that really upset me she was nasty from jump I feel like it is because I m a light skinned black women but when 2 Carribeans and 2 whites came in she was very nice to them I m not rude , I m very mannerly and humble but her nastiness threw me all the way off only got 4 oxtails on my plate no meat and meat was very corse fritters were oily and fish bones all in them idk if there are new cooks there but Simone s was so good 3 years ago also had a awesome cashier back then a young guy and another time was a girl who looked to be Asian / Jamaican mix who was sweet that nasty cashier made the experience bad for me if I would of had a ok experience with food but cashier was sweet I wouldn t have been so upset ..,,,maybe she should be in the back doing dishes or cooking she definitely shouldn t be on the front end with that stink attitude but Simone s still have tasty food just a better quality of food was 5 years ago
First time I tried it and absolutely loved it. The service was amazing, the food was hot and fresh and tasty. Pleasantly surprised. Be back in the new year!
Came in for ackee saltfish w/ rice and peas. Honestly i knew itd be good, but it BLEW ME TF AWAY!!!!!! Every single bite was incredible. Not the mention the Johnny cakes which had me feeling like i was on the islands incredible and lovely women who work here
Was looking for a Caribbean spot that was open after 7 and was pleasantly surprised about this place. Food was fresh, hot, and extremely flavoursome. It does cost more than the average take out spot but I felt it was worth it.
Consistently hot, fresh and delicious EVERY time!!!! This place is 11/10
This was my first time at this establishment. I ordered oxtail which costed about $25. I got the food and to my surprise I got 3-4 pieces of meat with huge bones attached to the minimal meat. I am a West Indian as well and most of us eat our food with hot sauce. I asked the staff for some hot sauce and they said I have to pay 1.50 extra. I was so confused, I asked the staff if she was joking and she looked at me with a straight face and said no. I couldn t believe my ears. So I preceded to ask her do you cater for your West Indian culture because you asking to pay extra for hot sauce is like buying fries and asking to pay extra for ketchup or buying a hot dog and having to pay extra for the condiments. Due to the poor customer service and not knowing how to service their West Indian customers I will never come back to this establishment and I didn t think their food was worth the price due to the taste wasn t good. I ve had better oxtail elsewhere and paid less.
This place rocks. Best Caribbean food Ive had in ages. The festival were incredibly crispy outside, soft inside, and so tasty. Fried cod cake was excellent. Bbq chicken with Johnny cakes was also really nice. Excited to come back. Note: at the time of writing this there was no table service but you can still sit down at the restaurant. Meaning you order at the counter and they bring your food over in to-go style containers. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options. Kid-friendliness: They have high chairs.
Authentic eats
Had the oxtail dinner and goat curry dinner, both were fantastic! Coleslaw on the side was really good too. Festival was a bit greasy but still yummy. Top quality!
I ran in for a take away oxtail and a goat curry late to see my sister and her kids and hungry. The curry was going to take a while (which is always great news) but left only with the oxtail due to the rush to get to where I was supposed to be. The oxtail was superb. Elegant flavors, rick and complex. A genuine delight. I dare say it would be worth the trip across the city just to try the entire menu. A definite must.
Really good experience here. The food was fairly priced (not too expensive) and tasted very good. I had their chicken curry roti and it tasted very authentic to Caribbean food I have had before. Also, their beef Patties were amazing!
Love love loveddd this restaurant. Ill definitely be back
Id love to try this place again but they always cancel our orders.
delightful, delicious, and divine. cant wait to come back!!
Great jerk chicken and johnny cakes.
I was looking for a good jerk chicken with white rice and a coleslaw on the side today for lunch. I sent my coworker inside to go get me the food so I waited in my truck. When my coworker came back and I asked him how much it cost, he told me $20.21 for what I asked him to get me. Once I opened the bag took a look at the food, they still gave me rice and peas instead of the white rice that I asked for and not even a drink was offered for the price of $20.21. I honestly thought the food was delicious but that price isn t justified. Please make this sound right guys. I apologize for the 2 star review but you guys can do better than this. This was really appalling to me because we both grabbed the same food on a separate bill and both paid the same price. Also had to check my bank to confirm this price and it was sad, $20.21 was in plain site for me to see in my bank statement.
Holy ****!!!! This food was hands down the best we got during our trip to Toronto. Everything we had was SO beyond delicious. Jerk chicken, mixed veggies, sweet plantains, Johnny cakes all amazing. Easily the best coleslaw I ve ever had in my life (wouldn t lie about that)
This is the best restaurant on the Danforth, without a doubt! Their shrimp roti is so good that thinking about it right now is making my mouth salivate uncontrollably Ox tail is out of this world! Every time I leave this place, I leave with a belly full of food and a smile on my face. Staff matches the food :) Beautiful service and beautiful food . The interior isnt anything too exciting but that being said the food is all Im looking at in there anyways :P Love love love this place
The food is ok but nothing Id go back for . Oxtail was still too tough the johnny cakes were too greasy, the ackee n saltfiesh had too much oil and was quite small for the price the roti was full of gravey it was like eating soup and coleslaw was way too sweet we felt like we were having desert eating it the festival were not bad we liked those. And who charges extra for hot sauce I was dissapointed in this the most I love my hot sauce Caribbean food needs hot sauce yes I understand u make ur own but its cheaper to make ur own rather then buy the bottled stuff. This was a big turn off for us. At least have a bottle of the cheap hot sauce for ur customers..with some Improvments this place can be much better ....
Simone s always hits the spot. I would eat here every day if I could.
The food was so good. The curry goat roti was a little more spicy than I thought it would be. But sooo good. Definitely have to come here again!! Edit March 27th 2023 Both my friend and I have stomach aches after eating here. Please be mindful.
The Codfish Fritters are dope! The Stew Chicken is dope! My Mum had Oxtail and Pumpkin Soup which was dope! Staff are friendly and got jokes. I was dancing in my seat while eating. You will not be disappointed. Food
A family member would always recommend Simone s so I decided to try it for myself to see if it was worth the hype. The food was decent but whoever the woman is that works the front counter is horrible. She has an awful attitude and is hard of hearing. I ordered a Chicken soup and a jerk chicken meal and she gave me soup and chopped up chicken in a box. I returned to the restaurant to let her know there was a mishap with the order and she insisted on arguing with me about what my order. I was running late for work so I just brushed it off and left but I won t be returning. Very unprofessional. She needs training on customer service.
I ordered on phone and picked up. The jerk chicken was dry, old and tasteless. Rice and peas were definitely old, dry and hard. Same with coleslaw. Dry, not creamy. I have had Simones before and it was very good. This last order was like throwing THIRTY FIVE dollars in the wind. Ill make my own from now on. I make great rice n peas, currys and jerk. Very disappointed. The raccoons enjoyed it, Im sure.
Overpriced!! Be prepared to spend $20 for one regular size jerk chicken meal. Jerk chicken is spicy, an overkill, you can t taste the actual flavour of the chicken because of the pepper!!
Amazing food so authentic and delicious and the staff are wonderful
Best rice & peas in the city. Don t forget those banana fritters omggggg so good
Absolutely delicious
Love this place I travel from Richmond hill, everything on the menu is always available, food is always on point and the staff is very friendly, my fav Jamaican spot !
Found this place randomly after work and so glad we did! Food was amazing! The festival - never had festival like that before - looked like cornbread but wasn t and with the oxtail gravy - oh wow just phenomenal -never had such tasty oxtail gravy - rich in flavour. Stew peas, jerk chicken, chicken soup and plantain - all incredible! What I loved the most is how fresh and hot the food was! Everyone was pleasant as well. You have to order and eat out the order containers but that didn t bother us at all. We will be back! Vegetarian options: Vegan Pattie s advertised
Loved the jerk chicken here! The johnny cakes were delicious too. A true no-frills experience with reasonably priced food. Note that even though they have tables in the area, theyre takeout only so dont expect any free water or service.
Very much enjoyed
Expensive and the food is average.
We waited 25 mins travelled half hr from home to get an oxtail meal . When we got our food there was only 4 Pieces unready oxtail meat that clearly needs to boiled down more & undercooked rice with too much thyme. On top of that , the food overpriced for no reason I can go Ritz Caribbean restaurant and pay 15 -17 for the same thing with more meat ect .
Authentic Jamaican Food. The curry goat is really good.
I love coming here it reminds me of my family back in Jamaica and I think they have the best rice and peas in Toronto. Service is what it needs to be because the food is too darn good. No complaints baybee!
Curry Shrimp Roti - Roti has a wonderfully fragrant toasted flavour, and inside is some beautifully cooked shrimp thats juicy and has a snappiness and creamy chick peas, along with a myriad of curry spices that makes each bite very addicting. Follow @bredgyeats for more food posts!
The staff need a lesson on knowing the difference from pepper sauce (hot sauce) and gravy because I asked for hot sauce and got a little container of gravy and I would like to add it is very very over priced for what you receive definite thumbs down
Ordered delivery. I ordered jerk chicken, rice and peas, coleslaw, and fried dumpling( festivals). The jerk chicken, rice and peas, and coleslaw was hot and pretty good flavour was there. The fried dumpling wasn t good it was really greasy I got two of them couldn t eat them.
The Johnny cakes are absolutely out of this world. So is the coleslaw. And the soup I had was heavenly too. O and the beef patty as well. You know what: this place just serves fantastic food!
Very nice staff! Great food! Ackee was a bit buttery for me, but was delicious overall. Hoping by the time my next visit comes around, that the tables with the plants can be wiped down of the dead leaves, for folks sitting beside them.
The food is excellent, the service is wonderful with lovely people, and the back patio is cozy!
The festival dumplings here are so tasty that Im pretty sure they constitute proof of a loving God. Its going to be a real struggle for me to eat anything else. My life is ruined?
Delicious food and friendly service!
Absolutely delicious. Reasonably priced as well. I live in the neighbourhood, and I will definitely be back.
Great authentic Jamaican food
Incredible food. They make all sauces in house and it s SO GOOD. Tiny crew operating out of a small kitchen so be patient and don t go in a hurry. Cute patio too!
Always on point
Always on point
Food was fresh and made to order. Just disappointed at the portion size. Paid $17 for jerk chicken. It came with 1 drum and half a thigh...
Yall have changed so much. Sad.
Best Jerk in Toronto!!!
The food is okay, but the salt on their oxtail is kind of too much.
I loved the curry goat, jerk chicken, Johnny cakes. Everything was great
So so
the food is amazing, the jerk chicken is so flavorful and the beef patty is out of this world
Really REALLY good yaad food!! Nice place to dine in as well.
My first visit to Simones (I want to say 2014) I sat out back on the lovely patio on a warm summer evening and ate a delicious curry goat on rice and peas. I recall that as an excellent experience. Since then, the food has never been quite as good, and is a bit uneven (better than some visits than others). Go on a warm day so you can chill out back with a frosty beer in the cozy patio.
Very tasty Roti with shrimp curry.Amazing service as well !!
I ordered food on Uber eats like I have a handful of times before from this restaurant and the last few times the food was just ok . The very first time good was excellent. I ordered curry goat for my husband and myself and instantly after eating less than 1/2 our stomachs started to hurt . You know the rest . I googled food poisoning and we had the symptoms. Had to call in sick for work it was not cute .
Staff is friendly which is why I gave it 2 stars. The fish I ordered was very dry, maybe it was cooked the day before, not sure why it was so dry. Vegetables we re soggy / watery. Flavour was there, so I ll try another dish, maybe this was an anomaly.
Great food and staff...from the fake name guys!
Great friendly staff, good quality food
Im a connoisseur in all these departments. Oxtail 4.2/5 Jerk chicken 4/5 Chicken Soup 4.2/5 Food : 4/5 |
Their oxtail is no joke it was perfectly delicious. The akee and salt fish definitely needed more salt fish. Coleslaw is fire plantain was a little burnt.
I have eaten from here multiple times great place not sure what happened today but I feel Super ripped off. Spent 30$ for half jerk half oxtail meal . Didnt even get a quarter leg and got 3 pieces of oxtail. Not to mention the rice and peas werent cook thoroughly. A bit disappointing today.
Ive been a customer for yrs. But i just made my last order. Food quality has gotten from worst to worserer. Last few times I ordered the braised oxtail the meat was tough and the steam rice over cooked. ...I will not mention the rude attitude of the young miss at the cashier...not worth the price tag and the wait time anymore...well no longer be recommend this restaurant.
Great food, great customer service , Simones is indeed the best Caribbean taste on the Danforth.
Perfect little restaurant with amazing flavour, returned 10years later to try the food again and still amazing!
My favorite jerk chicken in the city and the nicest people!
The food was Amazing! One of the best cacibbean foods I have ever had in Toronto. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the place is clean and nice. We had the shrimp curry and chicken stew both were just great! The portions were big. We had to bring some back home. I Definetly will go back and recommend this place to others. The only thing I would suggest is that all their food comes in take out packaging, and thats alot of unnecessary plastic waste. The food takes about half an hour to get ready! Which really worth it but if you are in a hurry its not the best option.
Best Caribbean food in the city!!!! (Wish they had cornbread) Oxtail is amazing! Jerk Chicken is AMAZING! Rice and peas are NEXT LEVEL!!! And the coleslaw is INSANE!
I know the word authentic is used a lot but rarely found, until you experience Simone s.
I so wish I took a picture! We ordered larger portions for a party tonight and it was legit unreal! Everyone loved it! Would highly recommend!
One of my personal favourite Caribbean spots in the city deliciously spicy jerk chicken and fresh fried plaintains. 5/5
This location gets a five star, one of the best local Caribbean Restaurant. -Simone local area real estate agent (www.simonechang.ca)
This is hands down the best Caribbean food in the city! My partner and I order at least every few weeks, and have actual cravings for the homemade johnny cakes and gravy. Simones Jerk Chicken literally falls off the bone, and cannot be beat. 10/10 recommend!!
It used to be great years ago, but they let their popularity get to their head. They serve old, microwaved chicken and bring your food out an hour after its ordered. Their staff is also as rude as their chicken is rubbery.
My favorite Jerk Spot . and I can t leave without getting a festival
Regular spot for us.
What here for lunch just pass by and saw this place and hmmmm it was boss the food was so delicious and tasty. I other jerk chicken and pease and rice the rice was so amazing flavoured not just some plain rice with pease the think taste like ah real cook up rice and man the coleslaw taste like vanilla ice cream I would recommend this place to everyone who will be in the area .!!!!!!!
Amazing food. Always consistent. Decent portions.
I swear Simone s is the best Caribbean food in the city, and that s saying something given how many places there are to try. I always get the oxtail with rice and peas and it never disappoints. The rice is flavourful and delicious and the oxtail is fall-off-the-bone good. Every single time I eat here, I leave happier than I came in. I dream of this food when I m away from Toronto. You MUST eat here. Other amazing things to try from their menu: jerk chicken (juicy and spicy yum), coleslaw, callaloo, plantains, kidney bean stew, johnny cakes, festival, and any of their rotis. Ok, now that I ve listed basically the entire menu hopefully I ve persuaded you to go eat there.
Like the Sorrel! I plan to go back
Walked by the restaurant with my friend, noticed it for the first time, and was interested as Caribbean food is the best. No one was inside so my friend and I were a little hesitant so we looked up the restaurant and saw the great reviews and decided to give it a try. Thank god we did!!! The food was incredible, kicking myself for not knowing about it sooner. While sitting inside we realized how popular the restaurant actually is because of the constant stream of delivery people coming to pick food up. Run do not walk here!
The portion looks small, but its surprisingly very filling! I highly recommend this place
Such good food and kind people!! Got takeout, loved it, had them cater our party, everyone loved it. Try it -- you wont be disappointed!
Oxtail was Expensive , the portion was small. Charged an additional 1.35 for a table spoon full of hot sauce, and the customer service was nonexistent. I will not be going back.
Absolutely brilliant. Ordered it on Doordash and it was worth the hour long wait. They werent lying about the portions. Also I NEED to find a recipe for those banana fritters because I absolutely need more of those.
Wow, and I mean wow. They arent doing table service, but they let us sit down and took good care of us. The portions are very generous. We got BBQ chicken + veggies, fish fritters, and goat curry + johnny cakes. Everything was good, but they are doing something magical with the goat curry. It was absolutely amazing. Top 3 Caribbean food Ive ever eaten hands down. Great time, great food. Will go back 100%
The food was very good. The service was good also. There werent a lot of people. But there was a steady stream of takeout orders. Get the Spiked Sorrel.
We love it here. Close to home, food is great and they are so friendly!
Best Jamaican cuisine in Toronto. Let s argue
Love the goat roti here. So tasty
i ordered from doordash delivery, and they forgot my drink. the food is already over priced as it is, and it s frustrating that they forgot 2 drinks that i ordered. everything i ordered was 68 in total, so im actually super frustrated that i paid that much for them to forget 2 of my items. i will not be ordering again from here.
Unfortunately, I have to leave a negative review. We held a function here and the owner did not prepare for us. I personally went to the restaurant two days before the event to confirm everything after corresponding via phone and email. When we arrived, she claimed that she had no idea we were still coming. Then she double charged us! Completely unprofessional and dishonest behaviour from the owner. I would never go here again, which is unfortunate because the food was excellent even though we waited over an hour to get it.
So good.
Simone s is my go to place for the best curry goat roti in the city!
Delicious and affordable Caribbean food
Delicious food! Fantastic service! I was skeptical about celery being in the chicken roti, but it works!
Delicious food, soup is delicious and a lunch favourite.
I m writing with a complaint about extremely shameful customer service that I received last night at your establishment. I m not giving a low score because of the food. I ate the red snapper and it was delicious. This is not my first time eating at Simone s. I m a fairly regular customer and as always the food was great but the customer service was poor. My first issue is that you have to order at the counter for dinning in at the restaurant. Second, dinning in while eating out of plastic takeout containers using plastic utensils is not acceptable and not environmentally friendly. Third I was asked to pay my bill in advance, even though I was dinning in. At this point I still gave a 20% tip. Fourth and most egregious was when I asked for some hot pepper sauce to eat with my food and they said I have to pay $1.50 extra. That is like charging for mustard and ketchup at a burger joint. Who does this no one! I then went on and said I don t need a container can I please just have a squirt of hot pepper sauce on the side and the staff still replied no. I asked the staff to reconsider this decision and talk to the owner about my request. The staff went in the kitchen and when she came out still insisted no that I had to pay $1.50 extra for hot pepper sauce. This is just so petty and extremely poor customer service. Out of principle, as a regular customer, who supported this small business during the pandemic, I will NOT return and I will take my money elsewhere.
Had jerk chicken, oxtail, johnny cakes and rice and peas. All items were prepared really well. The chicken dish leans on the leaner side but it is full of flavor and doesnt you feel bad about finishing it all.
Good food and service.
Try to call order in before arriving to speed up take out Parking: It is on the Danny. You have to go at certain hours or osrking is limited. Food : 5/5 |
Used to order from this place via door dash all the time. Most recently I placed my regular order. Received smaller portions than what I paid for. Got a long run around how doordash changes the prices (they dont), how when I order a certain size they automatically give me a smaller size (huh?), how its door dashes fault that I got a smaller portion (they dont make the food), etc. None of it made any sense. I placed the exact same I have always placed, using the same service but got half the food. Essentially, they overcharged me and refused to take responsibility. I paid $40 and got so little food that I had to make a full second meal.
Hands down delicious
Bland jerk chicken. Please go somewhere else if you have taste buds
I ordered an oxtail. Everything was delicious. Oxtail was soft a little bit, but I was addicted rice&peas and coleslaw ! I 100% go to Simone s Caribbean Restaurant again.
Hot sauce is fire! Jerk chicken and oxtail are fantastic. This is one of the best jerk restaurants in the city.
Amazing food and nice family owned business. Ordered many times off door dash but have gone in a few times (most recently for my boyfriends birthday) and they are always smiling and polite. Portions are great and the food is delicious. Havent had anything there that was disappointing.
