Thank you for creating such a memorable experience for my friend and me as we celebrated our birthdays together. We truly appreciated the thoughtful surprise from the restaurant, along with the lovely photo and rose. The ambiance was delightful—the décor, cleanliness, and overall tidiness of the space made us feel relaxed and able to fully enjoy the food. The open-kitchen concept was a wonderful touch, allowing us to immerse ourselves in traditional Japanese cooking. We were captivated by the chef’s skill, particularly the precise control of temperature and freshness with the tempura, as well as the artistry in slicing and preparation for each dish. The food presentation was beautifully simple, clean, and refreshing. The staff were friendly and attentive, even explaining the origins of each ingredient, which added to our experience. However, we were hoping for a bit more interaction with the chef, perhaps sharing inspiration behind each dish or other unique insights. While we appreciated the quality and variety of ingredients, we did feel that the menu leaned a bit toward the ordinary for a high-end omakase experience, apart from some standout items like the tilefish and shirako. We expected a few more unique ingredients given the price point, though the different cooking methods were enjoyable. One small point of confusion was the dessert; there was an additional charge for melon, grapes, and persimmon. This was unexpected for a high-end restaurant experience. Thank you again for the experience!

Beautiful ambiance where the chefs cook right in front of you. There's a lengthy and meticulously crafted menu that uses a very large range of ingredients and techniques to be as varied and unique as possible. It's a perfect blend of traditional re-imagined recipes.

I'm happy to enjoyed my first Kappo Michelin experience in Toronto on my birthday! Thanks for helping with the last-minute reservation, and a big thank you to the Kappo Sato Manager for finding us a spot. The food was fantastic, and Sato-san and his team made my birthday unforgettable. I highly recommend trying Kappo if you haven't already & definitely back soon.

Well-deserved Michelin 1 star kappo cuisine, it’s not that easy to find kappo restaurants, since most recognized high end Japanese restaurants are either sushi omakase or kaiseki. When I heard about this place for the first time, I told myself yeah I will have to give it a try. And you know what, the service, the quality of the ingredients, the level of treating and cooking of ingredients, everything is top notch, period. The lean and medium tuna belly sashimi paired with mashed Japanese yam and egg yolk sauce, the lightly torched snapper sashimi, the soft fried scallop tempura with shiso leaf, the cherry wood smoked tuna, the grilled unagi with crispy skin, the warm swordfish sushi, the signature mackerel sushi with shiso leaf, the wagyu, and of course the extremely rich and bold-flavored seafood pot rice, I just love them all. This experience is truly a wonderful one, and it will not be the last one, I can see myself keep visiting this place in the future.

I’ve tried every Kaiseki restaurant in the city and found Kappo Sato to be the ultimate kaiseki experience. It’s no surprise they earned a spot in the Michelin guide! The food here is simply outstanding – each dish bursting with flavor and creativity. From the generous portions (for the first time, I thought there was too much food, in a good way!) to the innovative cooking techniques, every bite is a delight. And let's not forget the smoked otoro, a dish I still dream about to this day! If you enjoy omakase restaurants that serve a variety of hot and cold dishes, you will enjoy dining here. But what truly sets Kappo Sato apart is the hospitality. The staff goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome and cared for, from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. They even made sure my friend and I got home safely – talk about going the extra mile! If you're looking for an unforgettable dining experience with exceptional food and service, look no further than Kappo Sato. Trust me, you won't be disappointed

Intrigued by Kappo Sato’s recent recognition by Michelin, I decided to check it out with a friend. Outside Vibe No sign outside - only a small and discrete plaque on the wall – those who know it would find it ….. loved it! Inside Vibe Simple. Clean. Elegant. Food Indescribable. Sake Wow Service Attentive, attentive, attentive. Overall One-of-a-kind experience.

The food was simply amazing and the staff really know how to make you feel special and welcome! I would definitely visit again for a special occasion. Chef Sato-san and his team (both assistant chefs and the service staff) work seamlessly together in delivering a truly special experience for the diner. My favourite dish was the special seafood pot rice cooked in their custom copper pot but overall every dish was well prepared and presented.

This is probably one of the most misleading Michelin restaurants. If it is at the level of Michelin, then I can also drive Michelin. I was really surprised that miso soup can be considered a course. The first course of the tempura wheel is sweet potato, and one sweet potato has to be cut into two pieces to share between two people. The last rice dish is Wagyu beef mixed with soy sauce and some green onions? ? ? Is it so easy to cheat Torontonians out of their money? All in all, I was speechless. . .

Chinese people don t lie to Chinese people. Five hundred dollars to eat this thing is not enough to burn it! First of all, the 20% tip required will be included directly in the bill...ok. I thought the service was like an alien thing...no! ! It s just that for the dishes that should have been introduced by the chef, a different person will explain them to you hhhhhhh When I ate, I couldn t believe it. I had eaten two-thirds of it. I don t usually have a bird s stomach, but I didn t eat much at all! ! The menu display was almost over. It was so nb. I knew immediately that I had eaten a der b Japanese food. In terms of ingredients, I, a native of Yunnan, can buy a box of matsutake sashimi for 500rmb. I spent 500+cad to eat a few slices of matsutake. What does it mean? ? Do you think the Chinese are ignorant? ? ? Let s just say that omakase can make money. You priced it at five hundred dollars, which really shows how lucky your ancestors are, haha. All I am asking for now is that there is no need for Chinese compatriots We can eat hotpot for 100 dollars or donate 400 dollars to the children in the mountainous area. No one can smash their homes again. It s so disgusting.

this was our first omakase experience and till date is still the best. The ingredients curation stands out from other omakase restaurants and really highlights the chefs skill. The food speaks quality and dedication and the service embraces such authentic Japanese vibes: cozy, hospitable but extremely detail oriented. Both value and quality at this restaurant surpassed any fine dining experience weve been too, looking forward to coming back!!

Chef Sato and his team truly impressed! His Kappo-style omakase was an amazing experience - Chef Sato and his team freshly prepares each dish right in front of you using local and exotic ingredients - showcasing his skill and passion for Japanese cuisine. The 2.5 hour dining time for 15 courses did not feel nearly that long as the pacing was excellent and each delicious dish built anticipation for the next. The wait staff was extremely attentive but never intrusive. Achieving a Michelin star in under 1 year of opening is an impressive feat. Ive had many high end omakase experiences both here and abroad and Chefs Satos meal was a welcome change from the mostly sushi dominated omakase in the city. Will definitely be visiting again in the future!

Kappo sato full omakase course with the add ons. I would go again. Definitely one of the good Michelin guide picks. Vegetarian options: They have some options but its mostly meat. Not worth the price if you are vegetarian. Parking: May have to go for a little bit of a walk. Wheelchair accessibility: Not great but they are very accommodating.

We ordered the $320 kappo omakase and $120 sake pairing. For starters before you get scared of the price tag, I firmly believe as a food lover it wad worth it. They offer not just sushi but a huge variety of cooking styles. Its different because you are not just enjoying raw sushi - but different elements like sous vide, broiled, smoked, fried and etc. Each dish was very unique and amazing. What stood out to me the most was the chef and everyone preparing the food. You could see the JOY the chef had when I told him I enjoyed the food. The service was impeccable. Everyone was very sweet, friendly nd paid attention to detail. They change their menu every two months and I cannot be more excited to come back. Thank you so much for having us.

What a wonderful dining experience at Kappo Sato! It is a lovely spot in midtown which was definitely needed! We chose the $320 omakase. We were warmyl welcomed and the space is very nice and spacious. Every one of the 16 courses tasted delicious and nothing was repetitive or typical that you d find at another omakase. And it s not just sushi. Some of our top favourites were the broiled smoked fish. It just melted in your mouth with lots of flavours. The tempura mackerel with a shiso leaf was also very unique and tasty. The tempura is so light. Sake steamed fish was also very delicate and tasty. The desserts were delicious too. Nothing on the menu was a let down. Definitely recommend this as a dining experience in Toronto. My husband and I had a very memorable and lovely night out.

We came here for a birthday celebration at Kappo Sato, and it was such an incredible Japanese kappo-styled omakase experience by Chef Sato and team It was amazing from beginning to end! Everything was fresh and delicious, and we absolutely enjoyed watching how each dish was meticulously prepared! Also, thank you for the amazing service from Ken and staff ^^ I recognize Ken from Aoyama Sushi! I love that this style of cuisine focuses more on the cooked items as compared to just raw seafood! Definitely give them a try :) . . . Kappo Omakase $260 (There is a $320 with one extra dish) Savoury Egg Custard Appetizer Platter Soup (Nyumen) Sashimi Platter Tempura Broil Smoked Dish Seasonal Sushi Grilled Dish Vinegared Dish Wagyu Dish Seafood Pot-cooked Rice & Miso Soup Fruit from Japan Homemade Ice Cream Matcha Mousse & Matcha Tea . . . What is Kappo? (This is taken from their website!) The meaning of Kappo comes from the traditional Japanese-style cooking method consisting of cutting and boiling. Kappo chefs have mastered various cooking methods limited to not only the seasonality and quality of ingredients and Japanese food culture but also have a deep understanding of the tea ceremony and flower arrangement culture. Acquiring a wide range of skills as a master of Kappo usually requires 10 to 15 years of steady training. This is one of the reasons why it is difficult to find skilled Kappo chefs and Kappo restaurants in North America. At our restaurant, we offer the best ingredients from all over the world with the best cooking methods using our skills and experience to our advantage. Dietary restrictions: Chef was able to substitute raw lobster to another item for me. Parking: Street parking available.

Kappo Sato serves an omakase menu offered at two price points, $260 and $320, the later includes an additional sashimi platter and sake steamed fish. Both courses, while delicious, weren t the highlight of my meal, so if you have a dainty appetite the $260 option will leave you satisfied. With sixteen courses, the $320 omakase left me pleasantly full. To start, pieces of skinless fried eggplant that were nice and creamy. Although, it would be even better served warm, especially when topped with cold uni and caviar. Paired with cubes of sweet poached lobster, the small seasonal dish was wonderfully decadent, just a taste of the things to come. More uni followed in the appetizer platter. In this case, the sea urchin mixed with yuba or thin sheets of soy that s formed in the tofu making process. The two are a good combination, the silkiness of the tofu skin glides across the tongue capturing the flavourful savoury gelee while mixed with the creamy uni. The wasabi adds a spike of spice that s surprisingly powerful for the miniscule portion of the condiment. The cool yuba complimented the hot fried tile fish, a bite of meaty whitefish with crunchy deep-fried scales. The fish is cooled down with grated radish and a carefully split snap pea garnishes the dish for colour. Sato s sashimi course is very different, the fish adorned with other ingredients rather than leaving the seafood plain. The sea eel was topped with plum paste and tangy sisho flower and the lean 10-day aged tuna with Japanese mountain yam and egg yolk. Some of it works - like the plum paste and sisho flower adding a refreshing element to the fish, others don t - like the whipped mountain yam and egg yolk creating something with the consistency of slime. The nyumen or soup course features a bowl of dashi filled with silky delicious somen noodles. The slice of sea bream was good, but I found its softness too close to the texture of the noodles and would have liked a protein that had some bite or crunch. Kappo Sato sets up the meal with a host of video worthy shots, the first being the broiled smoked dish where a gleaming dome was filled with smoke and the cover removed table side. Despite all the fume, the flavours just singed the fish with a smoky essence, the centre of bonito and tuna still tasted neutral. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

Im speechless When it was newly opened, I wrote an email asking if they could accept a single reservation, and they responded quickly. He said yes and asked me when I would be free. Then I responded with the date I wanted to go, not exactly date. Like every Wednesday of the month or something like that. Then there was no follow-up at all. Maybe it s because the store wants to make a high-end omakase, and it s embarrassing to respond so quickly when accepting orders. If you hadnt been doing marketing on WeChat, I wouldnt have been able to remember such an inexplicable store. After more than half a year, I finally remembered the name of this store.

Soft opening this week so was able to reserve a spot to try it out! According to their website, this restaurant is part of Zen Group. Not exactly sure what this means but I guess the owner of Zen Japanese restaurant has some kind of ownership on this restaurant (?) not sure but doesn t really matter to me as all I care is the food. There are two time slot, one is 6pm and one is 8:30pm and we r at the 8:30pm. The place is clean and looks like it can seat about 12 people with lots of room between people. The website indicate the menu would cost $320 but soft opening this week is $100 cheaper so my rating is based on $220. When comparing today menu against the website menu, the items are abit different. Maybe it s because it s $100 cheaper per person. From todays menu, lots of course, from soup to hot appetizer to fried food to sushi/sashimi to hot rice dish. I think they structure the menu with description such that they can change ingredients based on what is fresh at the time. Today, everything is good, comparable to the quality you get from Zen. I particularly like the tempura where it is served to you freshly fried one by one so every piece you get is freshly fried Even though is still in soft opening, the experience from service I have is quite smooth today. The overall experience after factoring in the price is about 4.5 stars so giving it a 5 stars since soft opening is quite smooth already! It s not cheap unfortunately which means I cannot have it too often food is good (has to be good for this price) but if it s worth it or not, it s up to you to decide. From the menu item I have today with asking price $220, I guess so this time.
