812 Danforth Ave, Toronto, ON M4J 1L2, Canada
Ample sushi, rolls, ramen & bento boxes are served in mellow, modern environs with lunch & take-out.
The food is absolutely not worth the price. The most basic airport tasting sushi. The beef rib bowl was also very disappointing. The price they charge is not even close to the quality of the food. There are so many better sushi spots in Toronto. Save your money. I never write reviews but I had to for this.
We ordered the takoyaki and shrimp okonomiyaki as our appetizer. Both were delicious. The nabeyaki udon was good. The zaru soba tasted like what you expected, just a regular zaru soba. It was a hearty meal and definitely great having after work. We went around 6pm, expected for it to be a little busy but surprisingly was not. It was just us dining in but there were a lot of people who ordered food to take out. It felt like a mom and pop store. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was cozy. I felt very relaxed and comfortable dining in there. Def recommend.
I’ve been eating here for over ten years and have never had a bad bite of food. Tonight I had the karaage ramen and it was just large enough to feel full but small enough to walk home comfortably.
Wow I had such delicious and satisfying meal ☺️ I ordered the Karaage Ramen (karaage was put on the side, which I prefer) and it was so yummy. Usually when I have Ramen, the broth tends to be on the saltier side, but this was a perfect blend of smooth and rich flavors. You can really feel and taste the care and love the chefs put into the food. The atmosphere of the restaurant was really relaxing too! And the service was excellent 👌 ahh overall I'd recommend visiting this quiet, kawaii, and cozy little spot on Danforth!! You won't regret it ❤️❤️
Lovely, warm atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed the veggie croquettes and Niku ramen (sliced beef and onions). Also they have a selection of cheesecakes for $5- took home and enjoyed yam cheesecake (not pictured).
Food - Their menu has the standard japanese food you usually see at others. There are a few items that have their own twists, such as the teriyaki fries. I got the dynamic roll, and unexpectedly, it was larger than I was used to. I prefer smaller rolls to fit into my mouth. However, I didn't mind the largeness. It did taste good, nothing crazy but above the average. For the price, it was a little much. If you can share it, it would be better bang for your buck. The presentation was nice, and overall, I would come back if I was in the area. Service - The server was friendly and professional. Food came out quickly, so there was nothing to complain about here. Ambiance - I always appreciate it when the restaurant takes care of decorating. They have a bunch of japanese artwork and knick knacks. Lots of wood and an outside patio. It's near the subway and clean. Overall, it's not bad, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.
First time visiting and had a great experience. Got takoyaki, agedashi tofu, and yakitori to start. All were really good, the agedashi was very crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Had the karaage ramen, shio ramen, and tonkatsu ramen. All had really flavourful broth and toppings.
I ordered the large spicy miso ramen bowl. It was pretty large, however the noodles seemed like they were extremely soggy and they almost had no taste to them whatsoever. The egg was actually cold inside the bowl, the seasoning for the broth was actually quite good. I've had better bowls of ramen in many places before this, it might have been on end of the day kind of a thing where they were running out but this is up to the restaurant to rectify. The waitresses were incredibly nice, the price for an extra large bowl of ramen with tip comes up to about $22 or so which is on the high side.
Nourished my soul
Super-friendly staff. Food was expensive and not the best. Katsu curry was grainy, pork tough. $32 Maki combo super lightweight with squeeze packs of ancient, flavourless wasabi. They have some work to do.
I really enjoy the inari ramen and salmon avocado rolls.
Ordered the pork tonkatsu ramen. Food was delicious and service was great. Only gave 4/5 stars because for the price, there are other ramen places in the city that offer a larger portion size.
Great place!! One of the best spicy miso ramen Ive had. Then, I went for a yummy Nakayoshi cheesecake. Service was fantastic, the waiters were so nice. I dont use to write reviews tbh, but this place deserved it. Amazing experience.
Best nabe yaki udon weve found in the city so far
I come here for the ramen when in the neighbourhood. A lot of the other food on the menu seems a little pricey for the quantity you get.
Food was good, but overpriced. The service was absolutely terrible. There were only two other tables at the restaurant and we were never checked on, our utensils were forgotten, and it took far too long for simple requests. Do not recommend at all.
I love this place. It s a bit expensive so I don t have it very often, but when I do I m happy.
Reliably consistent and delicious Japanese food with great service.
Great food, always fantastic
Salmon special came with a 3oz piece of fish for 20 bucks. Nothing special about that value or quality. Go a little further east to Yanagi near Coxwell for better sushi.
Overpriced with mediocore quality.
Great lofty and casual atmosphere..if you like fresh Japanese..youll enjoy some
Not good. $1 for extra egg and its only half? Flavour lacked too
There arent many places downtown that I could find with really good soba noodles. This was great! The people were really friendly as well and I had a great time. Try the red bean cheescake!
Not enough value for the amount you pay. I would rather eat at home. The portion has very little meat and is mediocre at best. Our dessert was hard as a rock with freezer burn. I live right beside it and most likely will not be coming back
The staff are extremely friendly! Always so welcoming and provide great service. The food is amazing too.
So yummy and comfortable, warm and inviting atmosphere on a cold winter day.
This place has gotten a bit more quiet since newer restaurants opened around the area. Still a great place to go to. I love the ramen that is served here!
Delicious ramen and excellent service! I highly recommend the spicy miso or tonkotsu ramen as well as the dynamite roll. This place has become a new favourite for date night!
Best I ve tried in Toronto so far tastes so authentic and ramen has veggies inside
Always a pleasure to eat at this authentic Japanese restaurant. Great food, superb service.
We ve been here a few times, and the food has always been great. It was our first time back in awhile. Service is always nice and pleasant, always and one of the reasons we enjoy eating here. I know food costs have increased so I will give them that but the overall portion size, taste and quality was not at the level I have experienced here before. Sadly, left feeling really disappointed. It wasn t cheap that s for sure and we don t mind paying $$$ when we have a night out. For that cost it did not equal the dining experience. We may give them another try down the line. Hope the food experience will be a more happy and fulfilling one.
staff is friendly but they do the bare minimum. the food is overpriced and not great and the portions are small. you also have to pay a significant amount to make substitutions to your order for dietary restrictions which I don t think is right. wouldn t go back
This gem on danforth has delicious gyoza, ramen and absolutely tender yakitori. The ambience of the restaurant was the perfect quiet escape from the bustling street and brought my friends and I for a surprisingly amazing dinner.
Generally, there are no surprises and nothing unpleasant.
Delicious food, good service, and a nice, quiet ambience.
Really good ramen! We prefer another place as our go-to ramen spot, but this is a close second. Also helps that it is walking distance, so we will be coming back frequently. I had the spicy miso ramen, and my wife had the tonkotsu ramen. Both were delicious! I would have preferred if the noodles were slightly firmer, but that is a minor nitpick. The broths were very flavourful, and portion size was good. We also got a side order of gyoza. It was tasty, but on the pricier side so may not get again. The place is spacious, with a nice ambiance and service is really good.
We have been to this cozy neighbourhood restaurant several times. The decor is tasteful and very relaxing (quiet) and the staff are wonderful and very patient when explaining the food. The menu also does a very good job of describing each dish. There are a variety of ramen choices and, frankly, is my usual dish. Obviously, I have liked the taste of some more than others, but all have been very tasty. We have ordered many other menu items and have always been pleased with both the quality and the taste. There is no doubt that there are more famous, and therefore expensive, trendy ramen restaurants in Toronto but why bother. The quality, service and taste of this local establishment is just as good in our opinion, and available at a more reasonable price and a quieter dining atmosphere. A lovely experience in Japanese dining. Street parking is available. I recommend.
I m sorry, but this was a pretty sad experience. We had the dinner sets. Small bowl of iceberg salad, nice bowl of miso. Then medium-size bowl of mushy oyakodon or uncrispy tempura. For $25-$28. Not even tea offered. The staff were incredibly sweet, but the food and atmosphere were lackluster at best and quite pricey for what was served. No Sashimi. I wonder if the management has changed in the last couple of years?
I had a great time there. The decor is really nice and the food is great. Staff was friendly. The ramen are excellent
My favorite ramen place. Service is so nice and food is a bit pricy but worth it.
A local go-to place for spicy ramen on a cold night. Under new ownership, I believe, so well see how it goes.
This is the best dinner I ve ever had. No joke! You should definitely give this restaurant a chance! Amazing staff, delicious food, perfect environment! 15/10, 10 stars experience!
Picked this up for dinner tonight-had the ramen and the wife had sushi. First of all they took over 20 mins to prep the order. This would be understandable if the food was fresh. Unfortunately $45 later, everything was cold - stale and very small portions. Would not go back and would not recommend.
My fav noodle place in T.O
Is it an izakaya? Not really. But I enjoy the food so much Ill forgive the technicality. On occassion I have enjoyed the ramen (the tonkotsu is great if you like full pork flavour), katsudon, chirashi, karage, katsu curry, and countless other dishes and I enjoy it every time.
Great spicy miso broth!
Waited an hour for a $24 dollar plate of cold and soggy tempura. Disappointing all around, wont be back.
Everything was perfect with my food. The green tea cheesecake is a must-try and service was helpful and friendly. Great warm, heart-warming ramen for those chilly nights.
Great general Japanese restaurant with most types of Japanese dishes. Very polite and attentive service. The sushi was generous in portion and the ramen flavourful. Tonkotsu ramen was a thinner noodle whereas the miso ramen was the thicker chewier noodle. Wouldve been nice to have the option to choose but overall a satisfying meal.
Just ordered 3 Ramen bowls to go. Over all it s just okay. The broth is ok, garnish is on the sparse side. We also ordered vegetable tempura appetizer, I have to say, it s the most undesirable tempura I ve ever had. The tempura- like batter is burnt and the choice of vegetables are interesting, I ve never had kale leaf tempura and green onion tempura before. I can t say it s worth the money for $12 + tax. Not going back anytime soon.
Great Ramen, combined with the great service. Disappointed at such limited hours. Id love to visit for lunch, but not open :(
Standard McSushi place, not Izakaya. Low quality fish, soggy tempura. Our whole family felt ill after the dinner.
I ordered a spicy miso ramen with roast pork. Also asked for soba noodles (which I usually have at home), and an order of 3 tempura shrimp. Now remember, this is an izakaya, not a ramen house. The ramen is good and the portioning is okay. Tempura was not that oily considering it is oil fried. Service is very good - the server brought shichimi togarashi with my ramen (along with black pepper) which is how it should be !!!! That was the first time I experienced the server ever bring that condiment with my ramen !!! ( Japanese chilli powder). Well go again once the restrictions are lifted.
This place is a scam. They charge $25 per small mediocre sushi roll. It would cost min $75 before tax and tip min for a so so meal. On top of that they bring out soups and salads that you dis not order, intending to charge you! Buyer Beware!
BEST RAMEN
Best Ramen in the east end! The staff are always lovely, and even though the sushi is a bit pricey its totally worth it!! Super high quality and tasty.
This place is very nice, between Pape station and donloads. There is a large choice of ramen for a good price. They also have combo for example ramen+ gyoza for $19 which is a good price especially because the quality and the service was au rendez-vous. They have cheesecake mango, cheesecake purple yam and another one (I forgot). The staff is very nice, polite and the place is clean. I recommand
Prices are crazy here to me. I just moved into the neighbourhood, and food is definitely pricier and subpar compared to north York and downtown core. I guess less people around, less busy, higher prices. I am glad this is an independent store though
Amazing food quality.
Great spot. Been many times with wife and 2 kids and always enjoyable.
the portions are small, the service is slow and the food wasnt as good as I expected it to be.
Staff are always very friendly. I usually enjoy the ramen here, but the noodles were very soft tonight for both of us, they were closer to spaghetti than normal ramen noodles. Pork and gyoza were good as usual!
Delicious food, especially the ramen, for cold wintery days.
loved the wall decor and the plating style. was reasonably quick service and very delicious. Took the Yakinku beef plate and Salmon pizza-sushi and loved every bite. Would go back again.
Good food great service
In my opinion, best ramen in the city! At the very least in the east end. The price point is great for the quality of food they serve. You can always count on a great tonkotsu ramen and an array of nice side dishes. Notably the gyoza and yakitori. I highly recommend this spot!
I always love coming to this restaurant. A hidden gem Im glad I found.
I love ramen and find myself always coming back here. Not too expensive and the food always comes super quick. Really clean inside. Beers are a little pricey though.
Cozy spot for a date and great service, reserve a table if you do not want to wait. Quite a variety of items to choose from and cannot go wrong with any of them.
An absolutely amazing spot! The staff was great and made the experience just unforgettable, the food was great as well with good pricing. Will be back!
The food is soooo good here
Their noodles and hot food are better than their sushi. The staff are lovely and the atmosphere is casual and comfortable.
Really liked this place. Food was tasty, healthy and reasonably priced. I thought that the dinner special was pick one of and it turned out to be get all of the main dishes. That was for $18.95! and included dessert! I have been eating Japanese food long enough to be OK with chopsticks. Will be back for sure.
The Sansai Soba here is great on a cold day or whenever you want a break from really thick ramen broths. The atmosphere is also nice for treating yourself.
Delicious!
Good ramen
Delicious ramen. Must go again
Delicious food! Simple and exquisite
Unfortunately, this was not a positive experience. We came around lunch and there were a few tables (2 other tables). I wouldnt call this true izakaya; its more just a sushi place with some BBQ. Every dish was quite bland, and the maki and Sunrise rolls were so, so sloppy. I have a hard time believing an actual sushi chef is in the kitchen. Sashimi was cut very poorly too. Agedashi tofu had no flavour and I have no idea what half of the tempura veggies even were. They were deep fried to death and then some. Except for broccoli which was full of raw batter. Service was nice but very VERY slow and inefficient. She kept forgetting things and we had to ask multiple times for just tea. Trying to pay the bill was insane. A less ethical person would have walked out. We literally had to chase her down across the restaurant to pay, and she kept saying ok and then not bringing us the bill. She put walk-ins ahead of us. You also cant get a copy because its handwritten, not even with carbon copy. Clearly she couldnt handle the whole place alone. If we had just sat there waiting, we easily could have been there another 30 min at least. Especially for people on a lunch break, avoid this place if you have a time limit. The prices are way too high for the low quality of food and service. Very disappointed. Wont return.
Great sushi and apps
Ordered some maki for takeout based on the great reviews. Very disappointed. Not enough fish and too much avocado in everything we had. Even the spicy rolls seemed to lack flavour. Maybe they had an off night, but we won t order again.
Love this place, they re scallops are my fav. The Staff is also super friendly.
This is my neighbourhood go-to Japanese restaurant. An excellent menu that doesnt rely overmuch on sushi. Great service, an excellent drinks list as well.
Love the spicy miso ramen !
Ramen there is always amazing, service is fast and nice!
The ramen was very good, especially the soup and so was the sushi. Great costumer service above all
The food was delicious cant wait to go back.
Great ramen
Great seafood, it tastes great! The other dishes and dessert pale in comparison to the seafood though since they didnt have cheesecake in stock when we went, would come back here again!
Very good service, very fair prices
Went there with he family for early dinner. Its spacious there so lots of room for kids and baby. Tempura udon was delicious, very flavorful broth. the ramen are good, I like the spicy miso. Good service and food came in good time.
Had a good time and service was friendly. Food was good too.
Had a great time. Food is amazing.
Amazing ramen and great customer service
This place is the best. I sat beside a very affable couple, who raved about 4 or 5 separate items. Further discussions revealed that she was a professional chef at another restaurant! An endorsement like that, lends credibility to a menu. I am a regular patron.
Great service, great food, nice atmosphere
Nice place for different kinds of Japanese food
Just pretty middle of the road actually, selection is quite large and might be their downfall, as everything comes out rather average. Ramen was particularly not great, karaage so-so, tempura overpriced and not very crispy. Sticking to a few items and doing them well would probably be a repeat, but not as is.
Great staff and food
Whenever I crave ramen it s here I come . The broth is delicious and the service is great . Made the mistake of having ramen at some other place on Broadview and I nearly fell off my chair when the bill arrived . Nakayoshi is more than reasonable .
Always great food and service. The Spicy Miso Ramen is especially good!
Kinda pricey place with very average food. You can find better ramen places for cheaper in other parts of Toronto.
Nice place, prices are little high for this standards though! Sushi is ok, Lamen is good, and the service is ok too!
Great place to get ramen
Flavourful ramen and incredibly delightful staff! Pricing is right on par with affordability :)
Ever since my favourite Japanese restaurant closed down, Ive been searching for a new place to fall in love with. With Nakayoshi Izakaya, I may have found my new favourite! The menu has an amazing selection (including Katsudon!!) and the food was mouth-wateringly delicious. Comfortable tables, lovely decor, and very friendly service. A great place to relax and have a delicious lunch with friends.
Decent food for a decent price. Would go again if I was in the neighbourhood.
Really good food with a variety to choose from. Friendly staff. Definitely recommend this place for a casual, enjoyable meal in a comfortable environment
Very good, but little pricey Japanese food. Seemed a little understaffed when we went, but I have a feeling that wasnt the usual case. Everyone at our table left satisfied with our meals which included unagi, vegetarian ramen, udon, and the chirashi sushi. We had our 18 month old, was fairly kid friendly and they had a few high chairs.
Great home cooked Japanese meals and Izakaya food in a friendly environment. Great for kids, they have baby seats and a lot of families eat here. Foods always delicious. We love it here.
Fast service, delicious broth and soup, at a very reasonable price. I love having lunch here.
Ramen take out (soup on the side) Delicious
Friendly service, good value, easy to find a dinner table yesterday. To those ordering the inari ramen: you wont receive tofu pouches as the menu states. Look to the picture on the menu which shows three tofu slabs - the picture is correct.
Great atmosphere and even better food! The staff is very friendly, will definitely be back soon!
Nice, clean pave. Good ramen, extensive menu. Friendly service.
My fiancé and I are avid ramen lovers. Most of our favourite ramen places are in the west end (e.g. Ramen Isshin on College), so we were hoping to find a new joint in the east that we can frequent after moving to Leslieville. We visited Nakayoshi on a Saturday night after reading decent reviews online. The staff were friendly and the restaurant was quiet we were one of three couples. The menu is quite large with snacks, ramen and sushi options, but we wanted a simple meal: I ordered the spicy miso ramen and my fiancé the tonkotsu ramen. The bowls came quickly and were beautifully plated, so I was already visually impressed. Diving into the spicy broth, it was rich and delicious. The noodles were the perfect texture and thickness. I was also happy with the generous portions of pork as well, which was well-seasoned and not tough at all. Overall, very pleased with this restaurant and will certainly return for another bowl of ramen.
Its a good restaurant. And has many options. You can try a cheap and delicious ramen here.
Very average. The broths are a bit too salty, the noodles are regular, price is a bit too high.
The Rainbow sushi was the best thing that was ordered. I wasnot too impressed with the katsu but it was still good. One of the staff members seem to give more attention to those that spoke Japanese, but she was still attentive to the others (kindof).
First time visiting here since moving into the neighbourhood. Definitely worth coming back to again. Terrific tasting Saba shioyaki, tonkotsu ramen and spicy miso ramen. Very excited to try the other menu items on next visit. Staff was friendly.
So Good. Kindness of the waitress
Very Good
Small restaurant, friendly staff, and amazing food
Love the ramen
Super friendly, but I had some pork sticks that were definitely past their prime. Alright, but not on the same level as other izakayas in the city.
Great quality food, excellent flavours and prompt, courteous service. Will be back.
Went there for first time. Was okay.
Food was excellent but the service was slower than I expected. Not a big issue, but still left a minor bad impression.
I had the Niku Ramen and it was fantastic. The food isnt cheap but its too quality. Planning my return already.
I visit this Japanese restaurant almost once a week. Whether its sashimi, grilled fish, fried tempura, or ramen, the ingredients are fresh and beautifully presented, and they all taste great.
Its really yummy!!!The spicy miso ramen is my favourite one Sushi also very delicious! And Gyudon my friend said the beef is very tender.I want to try in next time Its a good place for me to eat meals if I dont want to cook some time.
The sashimi platter was fresh and delicious, and the spicy miso ramen was super delicious.... We had a gathering of friends and everyone was very satisfied with the meal.
Great spicy ramen here.
Today, my friend introduced me to this Japanese restaurant and I had sashimi and Norwegian mackerel. The fish was fresh and had a soft and chewy texture. The salmon and eel sushi also tasted great. The food is served quickly and the waiters are friendly. I will come again next time.
Our regular Izikaya...
I was very impressed. Interesting menu and a nice range of sakes. I had salmon shioyaki and it was perfectly done for me.
Awesome ramen, friendly staff, nice laid back ambiance! Great overall!
Man I love Ramen. And you should too! So come here and eat Ramen!
Okay for the price we paid. I was expecting much better quality. Food was on the pricier end. My wife is vegetarian and didnt seem like she had too many options compared to other Japanese restaurants.
Great food, great service, and a great place to hangout with your friends or family!
The food was so goodd
Very friendly service, but overpriced for what you get. I would recommend yanagi on the Danforth or japango downtown instead.
Cool place and the food was good. Skewers were tasty. The ramen was ok but could use more umami.
Something is off about this place. The sushi rice was not fresh and tasted really mushy. Price point of the food is on the high side.
This was my first time here and I loved it! Service was great and the food was also great.
Pretry good ramen for this side of the city. Danforth does not have many asian food options, so this one is a must. Very nice atmosphere, not generally very busy. Also a great selection of other dishes, as typical of an izakaya.
Damn good sushi. One of my go to places.
Very nice place with great food. We will definitely return there.
