We had a wonderful experience here. We were the only seating that day, so we were able to enjoy an exclusive experience. The food was wonderful, service was excellent..after the meal we were able to have a great conversation with chef izutsu about Japanese cuisine in Toronto and Japan. Very fortunate to have had such an intimate dining experience.
Our experience at Yukashi was incredible. It was sophisticated, yet intimate. The staff were helpful when ordering drinks, describing the dishes, and were there waiting to serve us. The food was beautiful, unique, and very flavorful. The texture of the fish, meat, vegetables and sauces, paired well together. I tried new things I have never had, and found out I liked things I never thought I liked. The chef was funny, kind, and extremely passionate about his craft. You can tell he has created and cultured an incredible team to support his vision in the restaurant. There was not one dish we didn't like. It was all, perfect. All different. All pairing well together. And... To top it off, this is a unique non-Torontonian restaurant. Thank goodness. We have been trying to find something different. This is the perfect place for a date, a celebration, a business meeting. It is worth every penny. And don't be like me, get the drink pairing. I definitely missed out. My gf forgot to take pictures of everything, but I'll share what we did take. Definitely a failure on our part. So beautiful. The food was so breathtaking, we were in the moment and forgot to take pictures.
Food and presentation was phenomenal. Everything was so pretty yet delicious at the same time. Chef Izutsu was super friendly. I love when the chef interacts with you during your meal it makes the experience so much more fun! Thank you for making our anniversary dinner so memorable 💕
The dinner is actually a slightly modernised Kaisei dinner. I was a little skeptical at first to try this 1 star Japanese restaurant, worrying that the food has been westernised and cater for local, especially when chef went out of his way to explain what a dashi is to its guest. That’s a red flag in my mind. Luckily, my blind faith was handsomely rewarded. The most simple ingredients combination with simple seasoning like soy sauce and salt or just cook in dashi. Nothing could be hidden and let the quality of the produces shine. 1. The presentation is not over of top or gimmicky, rather, pleasing like an art form and yet still wow you; 2. Even the dakon (radish) next to the sashimi was carefully treated and tasted exceptional; 3. Go for sake pairing and have fun with the chef.
If it was possible to give 7 stars, I would. I enjoy some of the top restaurants in Toronto regularly, but have never had an experience like this. Chef was incredible, food was impeccable, and sake pairings can’t be beat. Highly recommend. I’ll be back seasonally, as the menu changes. Thank you, Yukashi!
Dinner at Yukashi was wonderful and beyond our expectations. Everything was delicious, fresh and beautiful. The chef engaged with the customers and created a very warm atmosphere. He was very funny and approachable. Servers were very kind. Absolutely worthy of Michelin star :)
My wife and I celebrated our tenth year anniversary over a nine course omakase. This has been one of the best food experiences I've had - ever. The food was sublime and the chef and staff were very warm and personable. Loved it!!!
A well-presented meal is very impressive. I appreciated the chef's effort and enjoyed the food. The only drawback was waiting for the food to be served at the table for a longer period of time. Having only one server for the entire dining table was not sufficient. Sometimes, the server needed more explanation about the food, and this caused further delays.
Yukashi-san (the chef at Yukashi) is a master of combining flavours in harmony to make something amazingly delightful that Ive never had before in Japan, New York or Europe. Yukashi is a classic Kyoto-style, Kaiseki, Omakse, multi-course Japanese dinner restaurant with counter seating for up to dozen people (Omakse means there is no a-la-carte food menu. Kaiseki means that the meal is prepared for each person with the freshest, high quality, seasonal ingredients). Yukashi-sans ingredients and techniques are from traditional Japanese cuisine, but his food ideas and personal style are reflected in a unique instance of Japanese cuisine of his own creation. I will long cherish the memory of the combination of madai (Red Sea Bream) sashimi with chrysanthemum - that combination was out-of-this-world fabulous. I never had Nodogura (blackthroat seaperch) before my most recent visit to Yukashi. I was impressed with the delicious preparation of the Nodogura - eating it made me happy. There were two different soups - both worthy of lingering over and savouring every spoonful (something not often said by me about soup). The chestnut appetizer was more than worthy of being served alongside the legendary Rokusaburo Michibas hors doeuvres at his Ginza restaurant. I feel echoes of the charm of Nobu (the original New York one at Hudson and Frankin Streets) not by exactly copying Nobu Matsuhisas classic Alaskan-Black-Cod-with-Miso-marine (which so many, many Japanese restaurants do), but instead with Yukashi-sans own secret-recipe homemade fruit-infused sakes. The staff is small in number, but attentive, effective and efficient. This is a modest, cozy place - not a large style restaurant. There will not be two dozen nearly invisible staff hovering around you and popping up if maybe you need something (a wonderful quality in a larger restaurant, but not in harmony with the comfy feel of Yukashi). Because it is a small restaurant, there may be times when you will have to ask the staff for something, but this in no way detracts from the appeal of the evening spent in their company and sometimes the interaction makes the dining experience more fun. Yukashi-san takes his food very seriously, but dinner does not have to always be sombre. As Yukashi-san prepared my food, I really enjoyed moments of chatting (questions/stories) with him. Yukashi-san can sometimes be playful in his moments with the customers - but never at the expense of every morsel of food being perfect. Even if you have to go out of your way, I highly recommend you try Yukashi and see what flavor is new for you. Dining at Yukashi once each season can easily become a habit, to enjoy Yukashi-sans mastery of combining flavours into his own memorable style of Japanese cuisine.
Im not sure about the food, but the service and atmosphere look very good. So they only accept reservations ahead of time, on open table.. I walked in as I normal do and was turned away. Menu is a fixed menu and seasonal. Next time Im in town, I will have to try.
This was by far the most enjoyable and unique dining experience I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The ingredients used in composing the dishes had immaculate attention to detail as the plate presentation was exquisite and complimented the flavors very well. I strongly urge and recommend that you try this restaurant as it will take your taste buds on a journey that they have never gone before. Service and atmosphere were impeccable - location is cozy, quaint while the head chef & support staff are engaging and incredibly hospitable.
Food was amazing and beautifully plated. Highly recommend the sake pairing. Thanks for making our anniversary amazing!
Amazing dinner with the chef and team!! Very creative take on a traditional kaiseki omakase. Very enjoyable, warm hospitality. Will be back!!
Beautiful omakase experience. Servers and chef are very pleasant and welcoming. Humble atmosphere with great care and passion (sous chefs too!) to piece together the delicate and well thought out dishes. Did the sake pairing with omakase which went very well with each dish.
Everything was amazing: from food, to service. Unforgettable experience!
We had an entertaining and delicious meal that was exquisitely prepared for us by chef. Each course built on the last one and took us on a flavour journey right to the end with the crown melon cut was the extremely long knife that resembled a katana more than a kitchen tool. The most memorable dishes were the two types of wagyu beef and the chutoro. Each were carefully seasoned, and in some cases, seasoned with only very lightly. Looking forward to going back and sampling chef s creations again. Parking: There is paid street parking available on Mount Pleasant either using the Green P app or the machines.
Where the east meets west. Indulge in the finest sea urchins, bluefin tuna belly, and freshly prepared wasabi all at an unparalleled value. Immerse yourself in the ambiance and engage with the chef for a richer experience, enhanced further if you can speak a bit of Japanese.
Chef is amazing. Food was elegant. Don t miss it.
Absolutely amazing food. Came in for the experience and I was not dissatisfied. The owner/chef is so kind and likes to engage his guests. Really feels intimate and the food is phenomenal
Three years ago $150/$60 extra for sake pairing. 11 months ago $295/$95. Im sure its delicious, but double the money in 2-3 years. Was it free six years ago? Food : 5/5
Ive been to several omakase places around Toronto and this is the only place that gets it right. The omakase experience is not just about the food, but also the atmosphere and engagement of the chef with the customers. I came on a quiet night with only another couple in the restaurant so it was a very intimate experience. The employee that served us was exceedingly polite and explained all the dishes well. The chef himself was quiet and a little unapproachable at first while he was working, but once the first few dishes were served and he formally introduced himself, he began fully engaging with everyone. And boy, was he so funny and friendly! The flow of conversation reminded me of Japan, unlike in Toronto where the chefs typically dont talk to customers despite standing right in front of them. The flow of the dishes came out at a good pace, probably because there were so few of us. Presentation was on point with refinement, delicacy and high attention to detail. Despite the bite size nature of these dishes, every single one packed a punch and it was a harmony of flavours. Out of all the dishes, the standouts were the blowtorch wagyu/uni/foie gras dish, hassun (dish with elements that represent the season) and sashimi platter. The chefs skill and technique cant be overstated and watching him prep the food was an experience in itself. Overall, this place is absolutely worthy of its Michelin star. Ive been to other places that may have a single element done better than Yukashi, but nowhere else does everything equally well - presentation, taste, service and chef engagement.
My girlfriend took me here for my birthday. Best restaurant I ve ever been to. Literally. Would highly recommend the sake pairing which was INCREDIBLE as well.
Terrible service. Arrived 10min early for our appointment at a rainy night. Called the place and they refused to let us in sooner and insisted us waiting in the rain until they can open the door exactly on time. Ridiculous.
Best culinary experience of my life, didn t know food could taste so good. The perfect evening.
Great experience, great food and amazing chef. Would 100% recommend to come here for a great Japanese food experience.
Thoughtful and flavorful dishes, friendly chef!
Love this place. 5/5 for everything.
Unpretentious, delicious, and worth the price. You can tell that there is passion and love put into every dish. 10/10 would return!
My three words to describe Yukashi: inventive, beautiful, delicious. If you re looking for a gastronomic feast a display of technical mastery, and unique, inventive take on Japanese cuisine visit Yukashi. It s a small place so consider yourself lucky to get a reservation. Once you ve arrived you will be treated as a cherished guest rather than a customer. Personalized service includes a chef s visit to the table and knowledgeable, attentive service staff. Make sure to do the sake pairing, it s perfectly balanced for the meal and reveals how versatile sake can be. Definitely coming back!
Restaurant has nice Japanese theme deco. Service was attentive and chef tried to have small talks with customers - there were only 6 at the time. It s omakase and most plates had very nice presentation and looked pretty. I was expecting mind blowing tastes but not sure that was all successful.
A small intimate restaurant in Mt. Pleasant serving an extraordinary and fun kaiseki dining experience. We came here before they got a Michelin star and not only was the food wonderful, but Chef Daisuke Izutsu was so charismatic and we had a lot of fun talking to him. We had the nine course and if there is uni, get it. Their Hokkaido uni is unlike anything I ve had in Toronto and the chef would also sear it with Wagyu and Foie Gras - a buttery, creamy and savoury bite. You won t miss the Harvest Platter - a beautiful display resembling a Japanese garden or depending on the season when you re going, it could be something else. I felt like my dish resembled a Studio Ghibli scene. End your dinner with Japanese honey melon. Best melon you ll ever have.
Chef Daisuke-san was amazing. Such down to earth energy and hospitality. Attention to details from beginning to end. Shizuoka-shipped fresh ingredients (ending Melon was perfection). Would definitely come back again
Yukashi recently got a Michelin star, so my husband and I wanted to try it. The restaurant is very small and intimate (three tables, and a bar people can sit at and watch the chef cook). Each course was so unique, and the chef puts so much detail into each piece on the plate. It was a great experience. There is a fixed menu, so you don t choose your food. You get 8 courses over ~3 hours. The service was fantastic and the servers were very educated on each dish. The chef comes to your table a couple times and makes conversation - very friendly and passionate about his work. To eat there as a couple is ~$700.00 with the sake pairing (highly recommend).
If you know you know, Daisuke Izutsu is the epitome of professional excellence. All of the staff were superb, clearly hand picked, and the food is carefully crafted for an experience second to none. Leave your ego at the door when coming to this establishment and sit back and enjoy. 10/10
gf recommended this place when she heard me complain about recent dissappointing omakase experiences. very impressed, great experience. the wagyu was amazing especially.
We had dinner after read all the positive reviews. Nice deco with intimate setting. Food presentation were unique, taste are above average. Overall it was a interesting experience, with price tag of $650 ( $250 pp only option) without any liquor which is more than it worth. Will try some other restaurant next time.
Hands down best sushi place I have ever been to, to date. I dont have anything negative to say about Yukashi, everything was perfect! Presentation is incredible, ambiance is warm and inviting, and the food itself is top top quality. This is a genuinely artistic omakase experience. The chef was a true pleasure to watch and speak to. Sake pairings were unbelievable. I could have paid much much more without it feeling overpriced.
I can tell that chef Daisuke Izutsu has poured his passion into this cuisine after seeing everything in the restaurant and the meticulously crafted dishes. The highlight for me is the wonderful presentation of some dishes, inviting you to be a little more playful and to pick at some of the food with your hands. Thank you for such a memorable experience!
Absolutely splendid. Setting is very intimate as it seats only 10 around the counter. All the dishes were extremely beautiful and delicious. Chef Izutsu is a clear genius and a kind soul. A must on every food lover s list.
Not worth it, much lower than our expectation.
Indescribable. Treat yourself.
Amazing experience! Simply my best dinner. The cuisine was very fine and everything was delicious! The chef prepares the dishes in front of you. Quite a spectacle! Only 10 seats in the restaurant = an intimate experience! The servers take great care! The chef takes the time to interact with customers! A 3-hour experience that you wont regret and will remember for a long time! I hope to come back! Bonus: the Studio Ghibli soundtrack during the meal!
Visited yesterday to Yukashi to celebrate my wifes birthday. The Chef served us a 9 course meal. The food is artistic and tasty. Good customer service. Overall a great experience.
Greet food. The uni was fantastic and the melon at the end was extremely juicy
I wholly enjoyed the experience - every dish and every flavour. You gotta appreciate the ingredients and skill that the chef and his team put into a service. Its not everyday that you get to taste the sea on a plate. Everything was so fresh, beautiful and well blended together. Would totally recommend if you want to experience and taste something different.
Delicious, stunning food. The seared Wagyu with uni and foie gras was incredible. Sake pairings were exceptional.
WOW. Chef Daisuke is a master of his craft. From the moment you walk in youre welcomed by incredibly kind staff who will make you feel right at home. The entire experience is like attending an intimate dinner party at a friends house. When we dined there were only 10 guests (including us) in the entire restaurant which made it feel really special. I did notice a table (empty) so they could probably fit 4 more guests. The food itself was incredibly well executed. It was a pleasure watching the chef and his staff put the dishes together. Every course added to the last, and some of the dishes honestly felt too pretty to eat. Standout dishes: otsukuri, uni-niku, hassun. Also cant forget to mention the incredible sake pairing. There was also a whiskey pairing for the dessert course (Japanese melon) which was fantastic. The Michelin star is well deserved and Yukashi definitely ranks in my top 5 Toronto restaurants (and it isnt 3, 4, or 5). Well definitely be back!
One of the best sushi places I ve ever been anywhere in the world.
Amazing experience for Omakase- the plating and the courses were all unique and intentionally served. The chef also provided a complimentary whisky drink, as we were celebrating a birthday. Would recommend for a special occasion.
An unforgettable experience! Thank you Chef Daisuke Izutsu and team for such personal and attentive service and artful cuisine.
Great atmosphere and very friendly service. Would definitely go again
I had an amazing time here for my anniversary. The chef and his staff were very charming and welcoming. The food was delicious - particularly the plate of sashimi we were provided. Ive tried several omakase restaurants here in Toronto and this is definitely one of the best ones around. Would recommend the sake pairing. Well-deserved Michelin star!
Stellar dining experience. Definitely worth a visit if its within your budget. The 9 course tasting menu is the only option and it does take some time (~2.5hrs). The food is delicious, staff are very knowledgable and friendly, ambiance is stylish and clean. I really cant think of anything negative to say. One note is that each course is small but over the dinner most people will be full from the number of courses and richness of the food.
Absolutely amazing food, creative and delicious dishes that are beautifully plated. It was such a wonderful experience watching Chef Izutsu prepare the dishes in front of us and taking us through this unique culinary journey.
My wife and I had an amazing time at Yukashi, which recently hit my food radar after getting its Michelin star last year. Weve been to a bunch of top restaurants in Toronto, and Yukashi really stands out. Each dish in the tasting menu was beautiful, creative, fresh and (most importantly) delicious. The pictures really dont do the food justice. My wife is pescatarian was they were able to accommodate by creating a great substitute for the wagyu and a couple other meat items. We didnt have much experience with sake, and decided to add the sake pairing for the full experience. It was a great addition, and we loved how each sake complimented the paired food. Watching each dish prepared in front of us was an amazing experience, with great attention to detail from Chef Izutsu and his team. I really cant say enough about our memorable experience and the delicious food at Yukashi.
Hello from San Francisco! We had a pleasant experience with Chef Daisuke on July 5th. Congrats on the Michelin star by the way! Daisuke has his process down to a tee. Everyone worked well together and are involved in the whole dining process. There wasn t much waste, if any. The price tag was a little higher than expected, but it seems to be a result of rising cost of living and importing ingredients straight from his hometown in Japan. You do get to enjoy wagyu, uni, and foie gras as part of your 9 courses. The wasabi are grind fresh by Daisuke - you usually don t see real fresh wasabi. Other items worth highlighting are their toro and smoked hamachi. The toro was just so fatty and delicious. I feel like all hamachi should be smoked after trying it here. Can t forget the dessert at the end! It s really expensive to buy it on your own. He used this large knife to cut it (definitely got everybody s attention). The melon was juicy and literally melted in my mouth before I even start chewing. Amazing experience. Keep in mind the head chef is busy in the beginning. Don t think and just enjoy your food. He will have time to converse with everyone later. It s not just your experience but everyone else s. It s easy for other guests to ruin the overall experience but we made it through ours. Thanks again Daisuke and for taking a pic with us! Vegetarian options: It s japanese cuisine so it ll have fish and meat. Do not come here if you have dietary restrictions and it d be really rude to have them change up their whole menu just to accommodate. I Parking: We parked across the street but there are also street parking available.
Very happy we went. Chef Daisuke serves a full experience. Staff just as friendly and genuine. Dashi was outstanding, and presentation of each course was as beautiful as the arrangement of familiar and new flavours. Thank you for the memorable evening!
Best Japanese food Ive ever hard! All 9 dishes were out of this world. It was such an amazing experience watching the chef make all the dishes, and his attention to detail. The service was 10/10. I cant wait to come back!!
Probably the best Japanese restaurant in North America I ever have in past 20 years
We had an amazing dinner, the food was delicious and the plating was beautiful. The chef and his staff were super hospitable. Highly recommended!
Yukashi is always a great idea. The atmosphere is pleasant and the food speaks for itself.
Mind-blowing sums up our dining experience at Yakashi. We were greeted with creative and perfectly executed dishes. Do not expect endless courses of sashimi and nigiri. This is not what their 9-course Omasake all about. The Michelin-starred chef knocked our socks off with unique, flavourful, intricate and clean-eating dishes. We are very lucky to have such a fine restaurant in Toronto. Looking forward to going back.
One of the best meals we ve ever enjoyed. The experience was incredible. Every dish was meticulously put together, and every ingredient was intentionally prepared. We had so much fun with the other diners at the counter as well. The chef was professional yet candid and curious to get to know us as much as we wanted to get to know him and his cooking. It felt like we were invited into his home. The hospitality was so genuine, we have never been so surprised and impressed with the creativity of the dishes, and every single bite was phenomenal. Some favourites of ours were the Daisai 50 paired with the seasonal fall platter, the smoked yellowtail; the black sesame cabbage; and the urchin, wagu and fois gras dish. Simple elements like the tamago cube, seaweed cake and matcha cracker - though maybe not the star of the dishes - made every aspect of the meal perfect. We can t wait to go back again.
Chef Daisuke and team are extremely talented and served up a fantastic 9 course set meal. The flavours and fresh ingredients all worked well together and we left full and completely satisfied. Definitely understand now why it got such high reviews and a Michelin Star. The omakase experience was a first for us and was awesome. Will gladly return and highly recommend!
I have been to more than 400 Michelin star restaurants and more than 1000 Michelin guide restaurants. I would say this is a very reasonable price with decent food. Service needs to be improved. Atmosphere is just like a noisy bar which didn t meet our expectations.
We went as a group of 4 to celebrate our friends wedding anniversary. It was a truly memorable and tasty experience. The food and the service were fantastic. We particularly enjoyed the torched wagyu and foie gras, the sashimi platter, and the famous melon at the end. The chef was also very engaging, with a good sense of humour. Thank you for the great evening and for the special anniversary dessert plate for our friends!
Amazing food and service. Very interesting flavour and great mix of seafood and wagyu.
Overpriced. All about gimmick. Don t recommend.
The photos don t do enough justice for how amazing all of the dishes are. Chef Daisuke is very welcoming and very passionate about every dish of his. He s also very humorous. Each dish s presentation is like a piece of art. His Washoku - the harmony of food is out of this world. Not only are they beautiful, but they are also super delicious and fresh.
Yukashi was probably the best Michelin star restaurant that I have been to so far! Not only was everything delicious but it was such a fun, engaging and overall, entertaining experience. Chef Daisuke and his team exhibited unparalleled hospitality, ensuring our visit was nothing short of exceptional. We went during the Autumn season and each dish featured the freshest Fall ingredients. With each bite, you can tell how much thought and detail Chef Daisuke put into the whole menu. Not only was everything delicious but these dishes are hands down the most beautiful dishes that I have ever been eaten. What an unforgettable experience!
Very authentic and delicious Japanese Omakase
Dining at this one-star Michelin restaurant has truly been one of my standout culinary experiences. It exceeded our expectations, creating a lasting impression. The restaurants ambiance felt like an extension of our own kitchen, providing an intimate setting. What made the experience exceptional was having Chef Daisuke personally prepare our 9-course meal right before our eyes. His continuous presence throughout our time in the restaurant added a unique touch to the dining affair. Chef Daisuke, with a charm akin to my husbands, not only showcased his culinary skills but also engaged with us, detailing each dish. This personal touch made the dining experience more memorable and enjoyable. Turning to the dishes, every element was thoughtfully curated and flawlessly executed. The flavors harmonized beautifully, reflecting a mastery of culinary artistry. It was evident that meticulous attention to detail went into every aspect, resulting in a symphony of tastes that delighted the senses. Ayaka and the rest of the staff added an extra layer of warmth to our experience. Their welcoming and hospitable nature enhanced the overall atmosphere of the restaurant, making our time there not just a culinary delight but also a genuinely enjoyable and memorable occasion. In essence, this dining experience, guided by Chef Daisukes expertise, transcended a simple meal. It became a journey through flavors, turning it into a culinary spectacle that will be cherished in my memory. This is truly a hidden-gem restaurant in Toronto! Parking: GreenP parking across
seriously unforgettable. will be back!
What a wonderful restaurant! The food was incredible- every dish was truly enjoyable, unique, and so fresh. The chef and his team were phenomenal- great service and entertaining! You can tell how passionate he is. I d highly recommend coming, and we will definitely be back!
This place is such a gem! We went for my boyfriend s birthday and got the omakase set. Each dish was presented like a work of art, the attention to detail and the way the flavours melds together were delicious. The uni wagyu is an umami bomb, so yummy!! Highly recommend.
Amazing experience!! Can t say enough about what a great time was had. Food was not only delicious, but each dish was presented like a work of art. Each course was carefully explained and so much preparation must have been done. Service was fantastic too. Thank you chef Daisuke and Ayaka for a fantastic time! Felt like a Michelin star experience.
I had a great experience at Yukashi. The food and presentation were second to none and the staff was very friendly. The chef is a pretty funny guy. Highly recommended and we will be back.
I would give even more stars if I could! Staff was wonderful, atmosphere was brilliant! Its a very intimate dining vibe. We had the 9 course tasting menu and the experience was worth every penny. Chef Daisuke Izutsu was truly a pleasure to watch and you could tell how much he love and care he puts into his craft. The 4th course was singlehandedly the best bite of food I have ever had the pleasure of eating. The sake pairings with each course were absolutely perfect. We loved their home-made sake so much we bought an extra bottle to bring home. We had an incredible time and will most definitely be back again soon! Cannot recommend this place enough!
Exceptional quality and service. One of a kind omakase experience in Toronto. Seasonal changes to the items and also presentation. Must try.
A stellar meal from the uber-talented Chef Daisuke Izutsu. Hands down one of the best omakases in the city.
Came here for a bday. They have their special menu tasting! Carefully prepared by the in-house chef. Personal and intimate ambiance
Best Japanese in Toronto that I know of. The chef is truly a master of his craft - we will be coming back to experience the menu in all 4 seasons! Everything was unique and amazing and the atmosphere was really relaxed and accepting.
I m not good with words, but I want to share my first omakase restaurant at @yukashitoronto today. It has truly changed my perspective on how sushi is supposed to be prepared. Every single dishes represent chef Daisukes attention to detail. It truly awakens my pallets and brings me a new appreciation for Japanese food. I think the best part Of my dinner is chef Daisuke. He was a delight! I have never felt so comfortable and at home. I didn t feel like I was at a restaurant but at a friends house, and we were all having dinner and sharing stories. When the guests leave, chef Daisuke would walk them to the door and thank them. His hospitality is something that I have rarely experienced which truly speak volume about him. I cannot recommend it enough. I will be back.
This is beyond just a restaurant, but rather an experience! Refined cuisine at a premium price!
My fiancee and I had an amazing time, Yukashi is definitely one of the best omakase experience we have had in the GTA. The presentation and the taste of the food is absolutely top notch! Chef Daisuke Izutsu and his staff are very friendly. This is a place that we will be revisiting many many many times!
Everything was excellent. The food tasted delicious and looked beautiful, the service was exceptional, and Chef Daisuke Izutsu was absolutely amazing. The staff there were all very friendly, and the chef was really nice to talk to and fun. The ambience of the restaurant was great as well, the whole 9-course casual kaiseki experience was such a nice way to spend a Friday evening. I highly recommend sitting at the counter, so that you can interact and talk with the chef, as well as having front row seat to see and experience how he and his staff prepare all the delicious food. I highly recommend this restaurant and Ill definitely be coming back here with my girlfriend to try their next seasonal menu.
Overall great omakase experience. One of the best in Toronto.
One of Toronto best chefs, hands down. Refined, creative, researched ingredients and dishes respecting the traditional values of Omakase but making it fashion. One Michelin star. Run dont walk.
Came here for a barkday dinner and I have nothing but pawsitive things to say about the experience. It was such a pleasure to sit at the kitchen counter and watch Chef Daisuke Izutsu prepare each dish with so much attention and care. He clearly put a great deal of thought into each ingredient that went on the plate, and everything was presented with such artistry and creativity. Everything was absolutely dog-licious, no matter the simplicity or complexity of the dish! It was a nice change to have an omakase experience that wasnt sushi-centric. Chef himself was also quite personable and chatted and drank with all the guests. Service was attentive. Definitely a warm, relaxed, and very welcoming atmosphere. Overall: 5 woofs out of 5.
Only food and beauty can t be let down! Ca195 tax tip per capita
Expensive but some dishes are very unique.
Amazing 9 course dinner at Yukashi. If you have not experienced Kaiseki style dinner, then this is the place to be. Chef Daisuke Izutsu and staff provided an amazing service that is welcoming but not overwhelming. Thank you for amazing dinner.
Not worth the price. Was expecting more form a michellin star restaurant. But the food quality is just fair
Beautifully presented Japanese cuisine. Great flavor and creative combination. Ingredients although not the most high end, yet very fresh and reasonable for the price. Thank you Chef for the nice photo background ;)
We had a blast hanging out at the bar. There was laughter and a sense of community amongst the diners thanks to our gracious host, Chef Izutsu. We had the full nine courses with sake pairing. The meal was invigorating to all the senses. Quality ingredients, mostly from Chef Izutsus village, are imported from Japan. Yuzu, fresh wasabi, rare radishes and melon, fish, and A5 Wagyu are amongst some of the highlights. If it was not for everything else, the ambiance, chill demeanor of the chef, the richness of ingredients, and the skill at which they were prepared, I would have awarded Yukashi four-stars. During the preparation of the Wagyu and foie gras, the smoke alarm went off. They said it happens every time. It was extremely loud. At $150/pp without pairing, tax and tip, I would expect they figure out a solution to this problem. Also, the same three or four instrumental songs played over and over for hours. Otherwise, a perfect meal.
To date the best meal Ive ever had. So happy that its in my neighbourhood. The staff was incredibly friendly and talkative, the service was excellent, and the food was divine.
6 Stars! the chef is a true artisan and the food is next level.
Since Hiro closed I ve been looking for my next exceptional sushi restaurant and it looks like I ve found it. We have the full omakase and everything was perfect. Every course was delightful and the fish was some of the best I ve ever had - and I ve traveled throughout Japan. I highly recommend Yukashi!
Great experience. Excellent service and food. Everything fresh from Japan. Omakase menu with ingredients that change seasonally (we plan on returning every season :)) Highly recommended.
One of the best meals I ve ever had. Very special dinner. Amazing flavours and flow for the 9 course meal.
I went a few weeks ago I went with a small group. The food was very rich and super delicious. I enjoyed the quiet atmosphere.
Best Japan royal dinner in Toronto. Mr. Izutau SAN is the top number one chef I had ever met in my life. You will have a unforgettable night for sure. This is one of the most meaningful restaurant I had ever ate, comparing to Japan local, fish is imported from Japan and Mr. Izutsu SAN is super nice and love his customers all the time. The care we had is brilliant specially the sake is definitely a best combo with the signature wagu. Food: 100% delicious Service: 100% polite and friendly Back again: not the first time and definitely not the last time. Very happy to see Mr. Izutsu SAN after the pandemic. Thank you Mr. Izutsu SAN for the amazing preparation for dinner.
Ive been to many omakases and this was definitely one of the best ones, if not the best
Great authentic Japanese restaurant. Use high quality in-season ingredients and cooked elegantly. The wagyu uni dish was so creamy and delicious. The seasonal main dish was full of fun while tasting different flavors and textures. Definitely recommend!!!
Beautiful food that has so much soul in it. Every dish is gorgeous and taste like it is from the heart. Great sitting on the counter to watch the chef at work. Thoroughly enjoyed both the food and the dining experience. P.S.: This is a omakase only restaurant. But the chef went out of the way to create a wagyu steak dish for my meat-loving hubby at an extra cost. He loved it. Thank you, Yukashi! We will be back!
The best omakase restaurant in Toronto, hands down! Must try the 9 course here, you wont be disappointed.
Easily a 2 or 3 Michelin star restaurant. Loved it
This whole experience was stunning. Every bite was delicious and not to mention the beautiful and thoughtful plating by Chef Daisuke Izutsu. We ordered the 9 course omakase set for $150 per person and we were not disappointed. The seasonal veggies and fish was amazing. Each ingredient was wonderfully used in each dish. I especially loved how the original flavour of the ingredient were retained. The freshness of the sashimi, the zesty tang from the yuzu and the rich fat of the tuna. The service was impeccable and staff was polite & friendly. We are eyeing to come back and try their special $300 course :)
Would return. Would recommend. A different but still refined omakase experience, delightful plating and good sake pairing. If you dont like rice, there is none served here. There is a focus on clean, simple flavours of the fish, various textures and colours. The staff are friendly, chatty, service did not feel rushed at all - and make sure you get bar seating to watch the dance in the kitchen and the joys of other people enjoying the food. My only feedback is that the noodles at the end were slightly on the salty side - a bit too heavy for a finishing dish, only saved by the sweetness of Japanese melon. Recommend you go for the 9 course and share the pairing (unless youre a baller).
Great experience
For the full experience of omakase, you can select which course set youd like and add an additional sake pairing. Wasnt much nigiri, however the quality of every plate was superb and well thought out for both appearance and taste. I would come back again and get specific items I loved.
Amazing experience, sake pairing was very fun!!!
Had high expectation after reading all the great reviews. However the food was totally underwhelmed for the price tag. Sort of understand that maybe the chef wants to go for the zen aspect and present food as art. But before you go to the zen concept or have any sort of theme you should work on the food. 1. The sashimi plate was beautiful but I am not sure the square cutting is the best for Ootoro 2. The fish / mushroom soup has the taste of mushroom umami but it is too salty 3. The harvest dish - as i was expecting seasonal ingredients the harvest dish obviously doesnt suit with the winter theme. It should be an autumn dish. In addition, the rice crisp (?) was very difficult to chew and also lacking flavor. The dishes are the plate are also not impressive. 4. Agedashi tofu has some sort of sour taste Im not sure whether that is normal 5. Wagyu/uni/foie gras - the mixed of 3 expensive ingredients sounds luxurious but there is a lack of harmony/balance. I couldnt taste the freshness or taste of uni after the torch. In addition, for a restaurant at this price tag I would expect the dishes are designed properly for taste or proportion - clearly this dish doesnt do the justice. My husbands plate has bigger uni pieces than mine and to me this is not quality. Also when my husband tried to eat the piece without torching (by mistake) the chef stopped him and torched the whole thing he put together including the shiso - this is not a professional gesture. Of course, my husband could be rude by trying to eat before he torched the piece, but as a professional chef he should ask him to remove the shiso leave instead of torching that until it disappeared. list goes on.... the only thing i enjoyed the most was the melon in the end as it was very juicy. However for the price tag i would expect plates with more delicacy and professionalism demonstrated in both service and food. For a culture that is promoting (shousin - meaning effort/willingness to do everything perfect/properly), Yukashi is by far the most disappointing Japanese restaurant I have been in Toronto. for a $150 dollar experience i would save my money and spend it somewhere else - will not return and do not recommend this place.
Delicious, and very interesting. Some dishes are quite unusual (the savory mochi was a first for me!). Will definitely visit again!
Ordered the 9 course tasting menu and enjoyed great flavours and excellent plating!
My date and I had an excellent experience. We decided to undertake a 4 course and 9 course meal (intended to share each of the subsequent courses) and had decided to do a sake pairing. The entire experience was incredible. The chef and the staff were exceptionally attentive and the staff was very knowledgeable and explained each of the dishes to us. The chef was also incredibly kind and provided us with what seemed to be extra food to ensure each of us were able to try each of the dishes and not feel stressed with dividing the portions. I would recommend the sake pairing. My date and I were pleasantly surprised by how delicious the pairings were and how well they complimented. In regards to the food, the food adventure was emotionally provocative and the food was never as it seemed... what we had anticipated it to be and the tastes and flavors were never consistent with the actual experience and it really made for a wonderful gastronomic experience full of surprise and wonder. We certainly would go back and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a new experience.
Late Aug-early Sept 2019 - Got the 9 course omakase and was probably the most worth it omakase Ive ever had. The highlight is of course the wagyu with fois gras and uni on top which is then seared by blow torch. This was so good that we ordered an extra helping of it a la carte on top of the omakase. Every dish was worth it, no complaints about any of the courses. I also shared the sake pairing with my girlfriend. Each one paired really well with dishes including this one that we couldnt believe worked with the corn pudding. Our favourite was the one that was explained as the chefs favourite. It was smooth and flavourful. The service is great, friendly, and informative. The chef/owner works diligently and with great focus but also goes out of his way to see every customer off as they finish and chats up the guests who have kitchen counter seats. Hes so friendly that the next time I come here I would either make sure my reservation is for bar seats or not even bother coming until I could get them. Jan 10 2019 - Just wanted to add some more details from my second trip back here. High points are all pretty much the same as my review as before but wanted to add that the menu at this time of year was full of very wholesome courses that would be perfect for eating on a nice cold day. I really enjoyed the winter selection and would recommend coming for this time of year if you want to experience dishes that almost feel like Asian childhood foods that we got when we were sick and would feel so much better after. The more summer menu I got last time contained richer flavours if thats more your bag. Regardless of season that main course has been beautifully arranged sashimi that has all sorts of little veggies, sauces, and more to pair with it that the chef will recommend his ideal way of eating and mixing which has been a joy both times.
Creative Japanese Chef. Wonderful food with friendly environment. Definitely will be the restaurant we want to eat decent Japanese food in Toronto midtown.
This place was so cute. If you are looking for traditional Japanese cuisine...this is it in every way. It was an amazing experience. We ordered the nine course meal..it was definitely worth it. I suggest you get a table at the bar.
My friend took me here for a 9-course omakase birthday dinner ($150 pp). The experience was phenomenal. Each dish was so vibrant and colourful. A unique mix of different elements, textures, and taste. Get a seat at the bar to watch the sushi master in action. My favorites were the sashimi platter and the waygu beef. The service was amazing and the sushi chef was very charming. Definitely worth coming for a special occasion.
We had the four course taste menu. I was just super amazed. One of the best Japanese cuisine in GTA area. The four course set actually comes with 5-6 dishes, which actually make you feel enough. The owner is really friendly, good vibe, excellent service and top-notch food.
Incredible meal at the chefs table to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. Each dish of the nine course tasting menu was a work of art. Meanwhile, the generosity and warmth displayed by Chef Daisuke made the entire evening welcoming and memorable. Highly recommended.
Had lovely experience here! Everything was well thought out and the owner is super fun to watch. As someone who doesn t like wasabi, the fresh wasabi was a pleasant surprise! Best Japanese fine dining place in town
The food was rather bland for the price you pay
Very authentic Japanese food. Very unique and a beautiful experience. We loved all the interesting textures and flavors and interacting with the very kind Chef! Thank you so much!
Everything was so delicious! Plating was absolutely beautiful. Awesome service and loved the cozy vibes :) we will definitely come back!
Yukashi is one of the best omakase restaurants in Toronto. Definitely go with the nine course menu to get the full experience. Chef Daisuke cooks everything in front of you in the open kitchen and every plate that comes out is literally art. Love the wagyu+uni+foie gras combination and the Japanese beef steak main course platter. Everything is beautifully presented, almost too pretty to eat. They do offer a 300+ per person Yukashi menu that we plan on trying in the future. The restaurant is small and the atmosphere is great, everyone gets taken care of no matter how busy the restaurant is. Prices are fairly reasonable for the quality of food that you get. Will recommend Yukashi to anyone in a heartbeat.
Expensive, but an interesting and beautiful experience
I sat at the front with the chef/owner who is a lovely and comical man - witty and dry humour and I live for that. Seeing the food being assembled in front of you while enjoying fun conversations with the chef is such a special and memorable experience. Modern vibe while still keeping traditional Japanese theme is what this place is all about. Also please make sure you get the sake pairing. Why? The better question is, why tf not?
Food was okay but personally opinion - it was not worth the price. Average service, maybe cuz we were the last group of customers , chef didn t even bother to explain much, all he wanted was getting off work lol.
Really enjoy the meal, feel like Im in Japan.
Unique flavours, whimsical plating, and relaxed atmosphere. The best omakase Ive had in Toronto so far. The quality and quantity of the meat was indeed worth the price. Even the wasabi impressed me, because it was freshly made and strategically paired with dishes. A great birthday - I will be back for my next special occasion. Thank you!
Amazing experience. The main and egg course is exceptional
Really worth of the price ~ both food and service!! Better than most of the places you can see in Japan ~ will definitely go back again!
Authentic Japanese cuisine with special twist by the chef. Impressed with presentation and taste of dishes and perfect paring with variety of sake you cant find elsewhere. Staff was extremely friendly and attentive, exercising proper COVID protocol. The price is not for a daily meal but reasonable as thinking of this quality of dishes without flying to Japan. I will definitely go back.
I celebrated my birthday here and it was a memorable night. Each dish was a piece of art and the friendly chef made me feel so welcomed..... I m dying to go back once we can dine in again!
Very tasty food spot
Pricy for what you get. Some dishes look and taste delicious but I felt underwhelmed for what I paid. The seasonality of the dishes was interesting, and the uni+foie gras+wagyu was a great combo.
Absolutely amazing!!
The best omakase experience I ve had in Toronto. Chef Daisuke prepared the dishes right in front of our eyes at the bar in a easy-going casual setting. He explains each dish with details about the origin of the ingredients and a hint of humour. As his signature dish as he put it, he served seared wagyu beef with foie gras and uni on top. My partner got a yellowtail/Hamachi as she doesn t eat red meat, and this big collar piece of the hamachi was both of our favourite dish of the evening. The whole meal took about 3 hours and you re definitely paying for the quality of the ingredients as well as the whole experience itself of watching an artist at work
Exquisitely prepared tasty food
The greatest Omakase in Toronto!!!Rrrrreally fresh and delightful!!!! Beautiful plating and amazing taste! I order $150 course and each menu made me speechless. The course was worth more than the price. You must try seared wagyu topped with sea urchin. I have been very strict to review Korean and Japanese restaurant because I am Korean and my husband is japanese chef. Yukashi is gem in Yonge and Eglington. I look forward to their spring menu already!
It is truely an amazing experience. Every dish was beautiful, delicious, and unique. I sat at the bar where you can watch the chefs prepare your food. You see them put so much love and care into each dish. It is a perfect place for a special occasion. The price is certainly worth the experience and quality of the food/ingredients. I will certainly be back next season to try their next menu. It was also very exciting to eat special melon from Japan.
This is the best restaurant I have ever tried in Canada. Amazing food and wonderful experience. Chef Izutsu is professional, funny and hospitable. Will definitely come back next time!!
tasty food and awesome experience. highly recommended!!!
A simply wonderful experience. The attention to detail was outstanding, the beauty of the dishes was amazing. And the flavors were captivating. If you can, sit at the counter to see the chef at work and learn what goes into each component of the dish.
Daisuke Izutsu is a very friendly and humble chef. He treats customers like family when they come to eat. Not only does he make delicious plates but he conversed with us throughout the course of the meal. Asking what we liked and what we didn t. He was very generous with the sake as well and drank with us at one point. He also describes his ingredients and preparation of his meals and educates his clients about them. At the end of your meal he will walk you to the door and say his farewells. It was a very wonderful experience.
Having had a few omakase around the city, stumbled around this place in mid-town Toronto. I must say there are high notes of this mid priced omakase, and some low notes as well. Overall not a bad experience but the lows definitely overshadowed the highs. Started off with their take on the age-dashi tofu (fried black sesame tofu with fish and yazu sauce), the look is good but taste is short of spectacular and quite bland. The second course of with chawanmushi, was topped with green pea purée and the purpose was really to cover up the slightly over cooked egg custard below. Next comes the truly memorable dishes, signature wagyu, the o-toro were all amazing as in the picture. And the harvest dish all have many to offer. But the end note with the dessert of a simple slice of chilled melon ended the whole experience with an underwhelming note. Overall, I would recommend this place. But would try others before coming back.
Exceptional food and experience!
Not a great experience. Didn t accommodate any food requests. Smoked fish was like eating a cigarette.
Great experience. Would recommend the sake pairing. Creative sushi.
An absolutely fabulous culinary experience- we had the 9 course tasting menu and every dish was superb. Highly recommended for those who are adventurous with food.
One of the most memorable meals I ve had in a long long time. From the food to the staff, everything was phenomenal. We ordered the 9 course omakase with sake pairing. I m not going to lie, I m not sure what everything is but I can tell you what really stood out to me. The soup was light yet rich with umami flavours, with a fish/egg ball and pieces of shrimp. The tuna belly was so rich and fatty it just melts in your mouth. And the other fish (don t remember what it s called) with the seasoning ontop, dipped with the chefs home made sauces was delicious. The highlight of my meal however was the torched certified A5 wagyu with uni and foie gras paired with the leaf. The flavours were so rich and buttery but the leaf gave it a great earthy flavour. The fish, which was the main was absolutely delicious, seasoned well but still light and cooked to perfection. The most interesting dish, an egg custard with some sort of fresh water plant which naturally has that jelly like substance around it. It was different but delicious, kind of like a crunchy tapioca. The melon will always be my favourite desert. So rich and juicy The chef was fantastic, he explained the ingredients and taught us what paired well together and even had a glass of sake with us. He was meticulous with the food and was a true artist behind the counter. It was inspiring watching him and was visible he loves what he does, as it shows through his food. We will surely be back! 10/10
Pretty nice place to be, cozy small restaurant
Thank you! This is one of the best experiences in Toronto so far for me. The staff is incredibly kind and the chef is a really nice guy that even came out to say goodbye when we were rushing through the door. The price is totally worth.
Wonderful service, and the omakase signature dish was as mouth melting as they say. I would fly back here again to eat
A very delightful dinner experience. I felt like I was in Japan Thank you Daisuke San and his crew Rikiya San lovey Ayaka San
Amazing experience
Just dined at Yukashi for our anniversary dinner and I have to rate it as a 5-star experience! Don t let the interior fool you. We have tried many other omakase in Toronto but this place tops the list. It s kaseiki style - very unique and authentic. The owner is very personable and treats you well. Highly suggest sitting at the bar for the full experience.
Friendliest chef and staff. Had a fun time discovering how to cook food, how and where they were grown
Worth the price, impressed omakase in Toronto Beautiful plating, fresh ingredients, great service
Yukashi has some of the most delicious and authentic Japanese flavours Ive ever had in this city. The presentation of their dishes are so thoughtful and the ingredients are very harmonious together. Im glad to have had the 9 course meal with the sake pairings. Overall, the staff were courteous and the owner came to chat with us a few times as well, even though we were not situated at the bar. Thank you for bringing memories of Japan to my mind, stomach, and heart. Were lucky to have a place like Yukashi in the city.
Amazing experience! Each menu item was so delicately prepared. The presentation was on point and taste was really well suited to the dish.
Had dinner to celebrate my birthday and I couldnt have picked a better place! We sat at the counter where the chef prepared the 9-course menu in front of us, explaining every element. Every single item was mouth-watering and photo worthy. Its not just a meal, its an experience with an exceptional staff. Highly recommend and Ill be sure to come again!!
I had high expectations before coming here and let me tell you not only where my expectations met they were far exceeded. The food, presentation and professionalism was outstanding! It was an amazing experience....
By far the best Japanese restaurant Ive ever been to! This place gives you a unique sensory experience like no other. Fresh seafood and extremely delicious. Bravo!
Went here to celebrate our anniversary and the hype lived up to expectations. The dishes were colourful and well thought out. We tasted unique and new flavours in the 9 course tasting witb sake pairing which was well worth the price. Great service and high quality :)
Loved this place! Very different! Loved the Sake selection
Great experience, the chef was wonderful and explained each dish along with the sake pairing. Very friendly and polite staff! Food was delicious! I especially liked the dish containing the egg yolk that seems to be sous-vided.
If you want to eat the best Japanese food, you must try this!!!!
Ahhhh mazing. If you appreciate well-loved quality cuisine without the fanfare, go.
Food was mediocre for the price. Presentation was nice but I felt a lot of the dishes had a strange flavour to them.
Went there for dinner last weekend. We had the 9 courses meal. The presentation looks very fancy, but almost everything is extremely salty, i had 5 glasses of water! The signature dish was torches uni, a5 wagyu and foie gras. its great ingredient, but putting expensive ingredients together doesnt mean its well balanced. the strong seafood flavor totally covered the taste of the a5 wagyu. This signature dish represents the whole meal. I can get much better omakase for this price. will definitely not come back again or recommend to friends.
