193 Carlton St., Toronto, ON M5A 2K7, Canada
英語、日本語での電話対応可能 We are open everyday from 17:30 to 24:00 (Lastcall 23:00) With our handmade décor inside, we try our best to show Japanese Izakaya atmosphere in downtown Toronto. Our signature dish is the charcoal grill skewers, and we have a variety of them over 30 different kinds, including meats(organic chicken, pork, wagyu beef, duck) seafood, and vegetables. By using real Japanese charcoal (備長炭Binchotan), we prepare each skewer with our pride. Other than Yakitori skewers, we have a variety of menu from a small dish to some main dishes. You can enjoy Japanese food such as sashimi, udon and karaage. Also, we have a variety of Japanese Sake.
Nice yakitori place. Good grilled stuff but pricey. Service is typical Japanese, quick but could use a bit more service. When we asked for more napkins, we got 3 and when asked for more, the server was hesitant to provide more. Napkins are cheap and should not be prioritised over cleanliness. Overall nice but requires some improvement for 5 stars.
Follow @bredgyeats for more food photos! One of the best japanese-style skewers is here, starting with a warm welcome from the staff and followed with a hit of charcoal aromas when you enter. You can immediately taste that smokiness in each skewer, along with a perfect cook for a juicy bite no matter which skewer you order. The zakkushi set has all your classic bases covered, and I didn't regret treating myself to the premium beef tongue that was like a chewy sponge that kept releasing more and more flavour with each bite, like that elusive everlasting piece of gum. All it needed was salt, pepper and lemon for a quick trip to heaven. Not only skewers, but the mentaiko carbonara udon is something not to miss, even if you're on a diet. Firstly, the udon is cooked to a perfect al dente texture that's intrinsically sooo satisfying. It clings onto the mentaiko and cream sauce, that brings a tangy cheesy aroma packed full of umami, whose richness is magnified with the onsen egg. Despite all that, it didn't feel heavy at all, and I had no trouble finishing it, especially with the nori and green onions speckled on top for extra fragrance. 🥢: Zakkushi Set, Premium Beef Tongue, Mentaiko Carbonara Udon
If you want an authentic Japanese yakitori restaurant, this is pretty much it. From the moment you enter, you are welcomed by the entire staff and soak in the boisterous atmosphere. We enjoyed a variety of grilled meat which are usually not possible to find in regular restaurants such as chicken heart, liver, gizzard, cartilage and skin, as well as beef & pork tongue. The same could be said for their appetizers such as takowasabi and ankimo. We also ordered beer but they had multiple non-alcoholic options as well. But as for any Izakaya in Toronto, it's certainly not cheap. Make sure to also book in advance on the weekends because by 6pm the restaurant was getting pretty full.
Amazing food and friendly service. You gonna book way ahead of time or waiting for walk in table like me. The skewers are charcoal grilled and the quality of meat and vegetables are fresh and juicy. The portion might on the smaller size and lighter on taste, but you can tasted the true flavor of the meat you ordered.
Wow… wow. I got to this spot by a recommendation of a Japanese Gallery Owner I have met and she spoke highly of this place, gosh wasn’t she right. I came here with my partner and food was amazing. They serve tapas style of Japanese authentic food and it was great! I hoped I took more pictures but was too good and we ate it too quickly! 😂 will def be coming back 😊
Definitely more a splurge than a cheap eat, but my experience at Zakkushi was well worth it. I’ve heard lots of great things about it as being the most authentic spot for yakitori, and I can’t disagree. You feel transported to Japan with the cozy wood panel decor and the friendly and boisterous staff. There are a wide variety of skewers, appetizers, dons, and drinks you can order! Each item we had was very well executed and delicious, I especially loved the tenderness and juiciness of the beef skewers; I will definitely be sampling more of those on my next visit. Prices are a bit high but the portions, but you can really taste the quality and freshness of the meat and seafood, would definitely recommend coming here for a “treat yourself” type of night!
This was my first time trying authentic Japanese yakitori, and the experience was truly unforgettable, it won't be my last. The ambiance made me feel like I took a short trip to Japan and the staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive. For the appetizer, we ordered takowasabi. Watch out for the spicy kick! It will get you!! For skewers, we ordered the Zakkushi set, which included Momo (Teriyaki), Umeshiso yaki, Boiled chickenmeatballs, P-toro, and Oropon beef. Additionally, we ordered separate skewers of Shashimo (fish skewer), Nankotsu (chicken knee cartilage with sea salt), Heart and Gyu tongue. It was our first time trying Shashimo, and OMG the fish was filled with fish eggs that burst with each bite. Dipping it in spicy mayo intensified the flavor. Every bite was truly amazing, and as I reached the last skewer, I felt a hint of sadness because it was over. I would highly recommend ordering Shashimo and Nankotsu! Once you experience how delicious they are, you'll find it irresistible not to order another round! Even though I'm not a heavy drinker, I found the highball quite manageable. It paired perfectly with the skewers, elevating the entire experience. Having a drink on the side is definitely a must!
Zakkushi has two locations and serves authentic Japanese food. We decided to try lunch at the Carlton location. We ordered Natto Bakudan, Takoyaki, Ochazuke with Salmon, the Zakkushi Set and Yakionigiri (Soy Sauce). I enjoyed the Ochazuke the most. It's simple yet so comforting to eat. If you enjoy something more flavourful, the Takoyaki here is fantastic. We also shared a glass of the Joshu Matcha Umeshu on the rocks. It's a blend of matcha and plum flavour all in one drink. Not my favourite drink but a very interesting blend and it caught my attention right away. Food portions here are on the smaller end but decor and service here is great.
The eel with a little fishy, my friend said the pork she got was spoiled and rotten. Extremely stinky. Other than that, super cozy restaurant with cute food. Their creamy udon is the best.
The food was good, but the service was lacking. It felt like they were rushing us out, so even though I went in feeling good, I didn t leave with the same feeling.
After being very happy, going to the original location on college. I finally got to check out the location on carlton, near parliament. I really wish I didnt. It was a waste of money and time. They called ahead to make sure that they were still open. But when we got there, we felt so rushed from the minute we got there that we really had to just order very quickly and eat very fasting, get out. The food is nowhere near as good as it used to be super small portions and way overly priced. Over a hundred sixty dollars 42 people, and thats with only two beers. I cant believe with service like that. That they usually start the tip machine at eighteen percent. Unless you speak japanese ....getting service or information from the servers
The food is great. Tastes awesome as well, a little bit over priced in my opinion though.
I m not very happy about my recent visits here. The quality is not the same anymore. The skewers no longer have traditional yakitori charcoal taste. The quality of meat and seafood also drops. You can def find better places in the city if you look for yakitori experience
We ordered a bunch of skewers, some fish dishes, some sushi, and a lot of beer/sake. Lamb was the standout. +$100 per person. We got in without reservations on a weeknight but I suggest reservations on a weekend night. Atmosphere was great and felt authentic with the staff yelling greetings/goodbyes.
This place is perfect as a second-round spot. The food is good, and there s a nice selection of alcohol. While it s a bit pricey for the portion sizes, it s still a good amount when paired with drinks. Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian options! Parking: There are public parking around
2024 October 4.5 Nasu Maki $4 Grilled eggplant with sliced pork. Tender and juicy. Would recommend. Shime Saba $10 A vinegarette mackerel. A bit fishy taste. An acquired taste. Good to kick start your meal. Sashimi Hamachi(6pcs) $17.50 Never anything wrong with fresh fish. Wagyu Beef Tataki $19.50 Slices of beef. Not super thin. Meaty. Zakkushi Set $19.80 A sampler of grilled goodness. Kyoho Sour $10.50 Would recommend. Cheap in terms of drinks here given the 1.5oz alcohol content. Buta Tongue (T) $3.50 Pork tongue, thin and chewy. Mochi maki $4 Chewy and stretchy. A good texture. Duck Breast $6 A bit drier in taste. Gyu-Tongue $4 Beef tongue. Thin and chewy again. Sunagimo Ponzu $5 Cut off sides of the Chicken gizzard pieces. Not bad. Crunchy. Great food overall. August 2021. 4.5 When youre missing out from a bit of Japan, this brings memories. The atmosphere of the restaurant is a nice homey feel. Staff are attentive and nice. With covid restrictions, each area is sectioned off at the patio. Inside, each area is cubed off. The food is amazing. Juicy and tender pieces of meat. All cooked off a charcoal grill. They import their charcoal from Japan too. Per their website as of writing: With our handmade décor inside, we try our best to show Japanese Izakaya atmosphere. Our signature dish is the charcoal grill skewers, and we have a variety of them over 30 different kinds, including meats, seafood, and vegetables. By using real Japanese charcoal, we prepare each skewer with our pride. Other than Yakitori skewers, we have a variety of menu from a small dish to some main dishes. During the summer season, our patio is open to enjoy the sun!! (May to October) Some of the items are pretty unique in the sense youd typically wouldnt consume... Like chicken hearts, but they do an amazing job. Its perfectly tender. Drinks are decently priced. Only downside is the cost. At about $3 to $6 per skewer, it can quickly rack up in costs. Your looking at about $50 per person on average for you to be full. Desert was ok, but wasnt amazing. If I had to choose again, I mighty have just ordered more meat instead. Though the hojicha pudding was decent. Overall, Certainly not cheap, but well worth the experience.
The food wasn t bad but the customer service was terrible and definitely needs improvement.
Its delicious. The roasted bird is well controlled. The outer layer has a burnt aroma. The texture is tender and crispy, and the charcoal aroma is also sufficient. Not salty but not sweet, a balanced sauce. Service is average, female waiters are better. Eat whatever you want, and youll be 70% full. The average price per person is about 40 knives. If you have a big appetite, its probably 80+.
Most of the skewers here are really tasty, though they are a little salty.
This the second time And the taste as good as the first time Food
Very bad service and charge a percentage more and I do not recommend it
ordered a takeout box of karaage and it was simply delicious. ill definitely come back for more.
Having been to Japan Im a bit strict on food. The staff was a pleasure and very friendly. The alcohol was authentic and fantastic. Id go again! Its too bad they dont make the Takoyaki in house
Everything was super delicious and I loved the atmosphere and vibe in here.
Zakkushi has been my go-to restaurant if I am craving Japanese food. They have high quality japanese skewers, you can choose from like sea salt or teriyaki sauce for some skewers. Staff is very friendly and patient when taking order, really appreciate it. The oden soup is very soothing and just like what you will eat in Japan. Highly recommend this place for a date night or friend gathering!
Feels and tastes authentic. Lunch specials are a good deal. Old school Sapporo posters are a nice touch.
Leo was the best and food was amazing
Went there with my son for my birthday and the food was just amazing, everything we tried was perfect. Service was very friendly, definitely will be going back for more!
The food was so delicious, even among the variety of Izakaya available in Toronto - truly a gem! The service was insanely good and efficient. I barely had time to ask for another set of forks when the waitress already had one at hand. The atmosphere is also really lovely and fun, but can remain intimate in the booths. Definitely would recommend going out of your way to check it out! Vegetarian options: A whole vegetarian section of the menu
excellent service
Deserves more people to come! The taste is very authentic
Authentic Japanese meat restaurant. The food is delicious, the meat skewers were very juicy and perfectly seasoned. The staff is very helpful, polite, and cheerful, making the whole experience amazing. Ill definitely be coming back. Sorry for the photos since I already started eating. :p
Unbelievable place that captures the feel and atmosphere of a real Japanese izakaya. Having been to Japan multiple times, this is the first place that actually reminded me of my time there. The yakitori was excellent, the drinks tasty and the staff was super friendly. Cant wait to come back.
Always a great experience coming here. From the service to the food and to the ambiance, always consistent. One of the places in Toronto that emulates the top tier service you would get in Japan.
Love love loved this place! The food was absolutely delicious, the skewers were super juicy and the Mentai Carbonara Udon was so flavorful. The service was great and the ambiance of the place was just amazing.
Best Japanese restaurant in Toronto! Nice people, great service, reasonable prices, and the food was perfect. 10/10
fantastic atmosphere (well decorated interior!!) and the food speaks for itself -- delicious izakaya with a fantastic, not overpowering, charred flavor. plus, the servers (shoutout yoko and soma!!) are extremely personable and make the experience special. plus plus, affordable! highly recommend.
I love their food. Fresh, well-seasoned and very tasty - even the liver. I ordered from them and ended up ordering the next day as well because it was so tasty
Really good service and nice authentic Japanese cuisine
Worst service Ive ever experienced. We called in advance to make a reservation and they never mentioned the 20% gratuity for a large group. They only mentioned it when we got there. We said okay and sat down anyway but that was just a start. One of our friends had a tumbler with her to take her medication but they said they have to confiscate it because they dont allow outside drinks. We told the server its just water with powder but they said drink it outside and come back or they will have to take it away. Our friend even showed them the pills she has to take and said she can just drink it all in 1 minute but they said no?? We couldnt believe this and we didnt want to stay here anymore so we all got up and left. We didnt want to spend any money here. What a shockingly hostile, inflexible and unaccommodating restaurant! We will never be coming back here. Cant believe the 4+ star reviews.
Zakkushi is my idea of a perfect yakitori spot, its unpretentious, lively and the food is fantastic! Highly recommend!
What a great recommendation by a friend! First step into the restaurant you are greeted with warm welcomes and great service. From a person that watches/reads a lot of anime and manga this place really feels like those places people come after a long day of work to drink and relax. Everyone that worked there was very attentive and nice, plus food and drinks came fast! For 2 people we ended up ordering, 2 pints of beer, their premium set (us wagyu, pork, duck, chicken, lamb), karaage, 6 piece sashimi, scallops, beef tongue, ikura + soy butter onigiri. Everything was so delicious! Our favourite was the wagyu from the premium set! (We thought we wouldn t be full but we were stuffed lol) Will definitely come back again to try other items on the menu.
Great vibe and customer service, another table has a birthday and they closed the lights and gave them a birthday song. Food is awesome as always at this original location.
Delicious food passionate staff
Best Yakitori in Toronto
Charcoal grilled is the best! Great food and service. Best chicken liver!
The good thing going for this place seems to be atmosphere. We ordered about a dozen things. Everything was so bland and dry. The portions were also tiny.
I forgot my bag at this place and was already walking towards my house and then I saw one of the lady waiters running towards me passing at least couple blocks. I really appreciate the stuff doing that for me!
I really enjoyed my experience at Zakkushi. Its an authentic yakitori izakaya. The flavors are at par with yakitori restaurants that I tried in Japan before. The Zakkushi set and onigiri were so good, but surprisingly the highlight of the meal for me ended up being their Mentai Udon Carbonara. The distint umami was on point and blended wonderfully with the creaminess of the sauce! The seasonal special, Sakura High Ball, was an excellent pairing! I would definitely come back!
The food was ok? I don t really understand the hype. An the waiter with bad teeth kept pushing drinks on us. Very uncomfortable
Great spot, the beer pickled Diakon was great, as was the kimchi salad.
Attempted to dine here at 5:40 PM with our toddler, only to be met with outright discrimination. Despite a clear view of empty tables and others patiently waiting, the waitress, upon noticing our child, coldly declared no availability no explanation, no wait time, just a blunt and baseless rejection. This wasnt just poor service; it was a clear display of unwelcomeness and bias against families with children. Absolutely unacceptable and downright disgusting behavior! A restaurants job is to serve customers, not judge their suitability based on age. We were looking for a nice family dinner, not to be shamed and turned away at the door. Will never return and will make sure our community knows of this appalling experience. Families beware!
High quality ingredients, freshly prepared, great drinks, top notch service.
Great variety of delicious food! Great service!
They should change name from Zakkushi to Xai-kushi. They play Chinese background music. Seriously? The service and food have consistently been excellent every time Ive visited, though I must admit the choice of background music wasnt quite to my taste. Food
I ve been a regular here for years and never left a review but here I am. I d loved Zakkushi. Not anymore. Somehow all their meat was gamy. It smelled. Whenever I ordered chicken skin they always asked extra crispy. Although I asked for extra crispy, it wasn t crispy at all and they forgot to season it. Premium beef tongue, me maki, everything was gamy. Disappointment.
From left to the right, the first one is toooooo salty. Dont know what happened to make it tooooo salty. The third one was so-so; the sauce wasnt that match. The oden soup is very sweet and salty. The fish cake is too soft, I guess it has been sank in the soup for so long. The white radish absorb so many soup and it becames so sweet and salty. Dont recommend the oden soup. Except for all this, the environment and customer service is nice. Servers will greeting you when you came and left. Also, kind of expensive though. A set of izakaya and oden soup is up to $40.
Delicious food, great service.
Taste better when the chef not that busy. Tbh, taste better than TORIKAZE in Shanghai. Worth the price.
5 stars for everything except the prices. They went up and now I think it s ridiculous to pay what we have to pay for TWO pieces of shrimp on a skewer. BUT, I pay anyways because the food is soooo delicious. Trust me, I m a foodie. I ve been eating here for 8+ years. Wheelchair accessibility: Not accessible. One flight of stairs.
We were a group of 11 who left the place right after being seated with uncomfortable service. One friend had her own water in her own tumbler to take some medications. But the server came rushing and asked her that they dont allow outside drinks. We told her it s only water and she needs to take her medicines and we even showed her medicines. But the server repeated that they dont allow outside drinks and asked her to take the pills OUTSIDE. Lol?????? Our friend told her it wont take more than a minute to take the pills but the server kept insisting her to leave the restaurant and come back. This sounded so ridiculous. Also when we called them to book the table they never mentioned about the 20% gratitude but when we arrived at the resto they suddenly said they mentioned it to us on the phone. ?? Im not deaf. Anyway we all understood the gratitude but with such attitude with 0 understanding for even taking medication with a drink inside the restaurant is not allowed and it has to happen outside ? Unbelievable and ridiculous. We gradually felt super irritated and uncomfortable. What really upset us more was that the server took our friends tumblers. She could have asked us to put it away or something but she just took them away from us and kept them behind their cashier lollllll never seen a restaurant where they take away your own belongings and force you to go outside and drink your whatever water/pills that is. We all felt like never coming back here again so all agreed to leave. There are many many other bars and restaurants on the same street and on every block in dt. There was no need for spending our hard earned money for places like this. We went to another restaurant that s 3 min away from this place.
The only spot to have authentic yakitori in Toronto, at least from my perspective. The set of 5 (not the premium set) is pretty worth it and loved each item. We then ordered additional skewers of chicken heart, gizzard and gyu (beef) tongue. The heart was amazing and we ordered another round. They also have smaller dishes too like okonomiyaki, udon carbonara and pretty big menu for different skewers. What I d say isn t worth it are the cocktail drinks. The mega was huge but there was so much ice in it. If you want an alcoholic drink, maybe stick with beer. Why I m giving 3 stars for atmosphere - the food gets cold pretty quickly when they bring it out because there s a ceiling fan that runs continuously. It could also be the cold air from outside but either eat your skewers fast or be prepared that it won t be hot when you eat it. The other point is the seating. Pretty tight and small tables and you re pretty cozy with everyone in there. Not deal breakers, just some things I noticed that do impact the experience a bit. Absolutely a returning customer!!
First experience at a great Japanese restaurant..we tried many of the food and loved all of it...
Cold to Luke Warm Meat Skewers. When I order meat, I expect it to be hot. Told the waitress and she went to tell the chef. Then nothing happens. No apology. No offer to heat up the food. Huge disappointment. We asked the table next to us if their skewers were hot. They said it was barely warm. Is this common practice at this restaurant? Are these skewers pre-cooked? Do they just warm it up and leave it on the plate too long before bringing it to the table? They certainly did nothing to resolve this issue. The only hot items were the oden and grilled mackerel (which came hot after our complaint about the skewers). Pass on the squid. It is not even worth it for the pee wee amount. Needless to say that this place deserves less than 1 star. There are better food options in the city.
Music is a little loud but everything else is wonderful
Superb Yakitori place with delicious food, cozy atmosphere and great service. The prices are on the expensive side of the spectrum but I would definitely like to visit again on a special occasion.
I like this place but my negative rating based on 20% surcharge for party of 6. Tipping usually a voluntary based on the level of service but this restaurant charging 20% before we even seated. Assault to injury, tips charged on the total amount including the taxes which more like 22%. We wanted to walk out of there but kids were very hungry after attending Toronto Auto Show at the Toronto convention centre. Food prices also sky-high for small portions of skewers. Waitress was very friendly and the food tastes very good. By the time we checked out, we were all still very hungry, hit with $305 tab. That s over $50 per person. I do not recommend this place for any large gatherings.
WOW! This checks all of the boxes for a Izakaya! If I lived here I would be here every week. The staff are inviting and will explain anything to you if you have questions. This would be a perfect spot for a group of people, but also great if traveling solo!
This restaurant is really cool and everything on the menu is very tasty. Felt like I was back in Japan.
Very fun and welcoming establishment. Food was so so delicious but came in small portions for high price
Came here with my friend on a weekday for dinner and it was surprisingly busy after around 7 pm! If you can, make a reservation. For drinks ordered 2 mocktails - one calpico and one sour grape, and takoyaki for appetizer. Then we ordered a zakkushi set, and some other skewers from the menu including US Wagyu Beef and Chicken heart. All the food was very delicious but only thing I didn t like so much was how long it took in between each dish to arrive. It s okay though, I still had a great time chatting while waiting. My friend ended up ordering some takeout to bring home. For dessert we split a Hojicha pudding which was yummy and you could really taste the tea flavor. Staff were very attentive and polite, helped split the bill for us.
Oden is so tasty!
Love it
Been here a couple of times. The food and drinks are delicious and staffs are kind. You won t be sorry with this yakitori!
Amazing food. Amazing service. Very authentic Japanese experience.
Wonderful experience, exceeded expectations.
Good varieties of Japanese skewers but very pricey. Also the machine tips default at 18% which is very disappointing to loyal customers like me (2015 to now). No party of two should pay 18% tips unless customers want to. The size of the drinks also become so small .
great food
Great food and service
excellent food and service
Visited o Sunday jan 7th evening. The service was great but food was alright. The chicken wings, boiled spinach and fried sweet potatoes were great. The rest of the skewers we had were a little salty. The grilled rice and chicken balls were cold and uncooked, the server apologized and told us that they will have them replaced. However, the chicken balls and grilled rice were burnt when they served it again. We didn t even eat it. Not worth to spend $80 for 2 persons, but at least we tried it. U get free drinks or secret dessert if u leave the restaurant reviews while you r there.
The service was really nice ^_^ The food was delicious too
delicious! The service is also great!
Best izakaya in Toronto
One of my favorite restaurants in Toronto
The food was really good, especially the cheese momo~ Will come again!
Zakkushi at Carlton never disappoints. Food is great with binchoran flavors, and always a great atmosphere!
The prices are expensive and portions are pretty small, but the skewers tasted okay. I would prefer to go somewhere else. I paid almost 80 bucks for two people and I was hungry when I left the restaurant.
If you want authentic Japanese izakaya experience in Toronto, definitely visit!
Really good, the server is great and the food is amazing
A place in toronto which made you feel like you are in Japan!!
Great service, and really good food and atmosphere, especially if you re coming for food and drinks with friends. Great if you like variety, but it can expensive if you re hungry. Food
Great spot for high quality skewers! Loved the oropon beef
Have been here over the years and happy to say that it is always just as good. Oissshiiiiiii!
Delicious skewers that are well seasoned and grilled to perfection. Staff was friendly and the atmosphere was lively for a weekend dinner.
Amazing Japanese skewers at Zakkushi! Theyre actually cooked on charcoal and you can see the grills at the back of the restaurant. My favourite is the oropon beef that has the grated daikon and ponzu sauce.
One of my favourite restaurants in Toronto. Food is consistent and always delicious.
Great food especially skewers
Great food and atmosphere! Vegetarian options: Tofu and mushroom Food : 5/5 |
Amazing food and atmosphere! Feels like you are in Japan. Must eat when in Toronto.
Amazing food and great atmosphere!!
Amazing food, great service, awesome ambiance.
Repeat neighborhood gem. Bbq sticks and little Japanese bar eats, what more can you want.
Delicious!!
Food is amazing
The staff is amazing, service is fast, and food quality is consistent and never disappoint us. A place that I would definitely be back for!
Great food!
It pains me to write this review. We have dined here multiple times it has always been pleasant. Food was good, ambience was authentic Japanese. This time we were here at 6pm and we were aware and reminded as we walked in the seating was for two hours. All fair. At 7:10pm we were asked to do last call we were half way through our meal, we said we need time to take a look of the menu and need five minutes to place another round of order. We were met with the most awkward reaction in that we needed to order right away and that we need to leave by 8pm. I said I was aware that the seating was for two hours. We looked at the menu and ordered another round at 7:15pm, the server said again we need to leave by 8pm. From that point on we essentially got no services except constant clearing of plates off our table. We were reminded about the 8pm deadline five times that any good dining vibe would have evaporated. I said I acknowledged the two hour seating when I came in and also at 7:10pm, why would you repeating that again and again? This is certainly not the type of hospitality I would have expected at a Japanese restaurant. It was frankly ridiculous to pressure your customers like that. Oh, I almost forgot to mention, this is with a 20% mandatory service charge for a group of 6+! We were so upset about this dining experience and the 20% tip for that kind of service was just adding salt to the wound. I hope the management at this restaurant recognize that.
Good taste and service
Delicious Izakaya!
Good price and quality of food.
The food was delicious and the staff were super friendly. Would definitely recommend
nice
good food, great service!!!
Very good!!
Great selection of food and very friendly staff!
Terrible hosts! I tried calling multiple times during open hours but I get the were closed message (no voicemail) When I finally got someone they were rude and didnt understand I was trying to book a table for the following week. They hung up on me, and I thought maybe it was an accident, so I tried calling again only to be hung up on again. I love the food but boy, terrible service.
Menu is small noisy But its definitely a Japanese izakaya. I paid a lot
Lots and lots of yakitori. Faves were the: -crunchy pork -tofu and wakame salad -momo -yaki onigiri with butter soya sauce I recommend going during the week since it s not as busy and the food comes out hot. Also they have a special, $6 pints of Asahi after 9 PM during the week. But the pints are really half pints.
This place is a banger, good food, amazing service and great variety of drinks.
An absolute favorite. Vegetarian friendly. Do yourself a favor and try the Eringi - super savory and full of texture, it ll leave you craving for more. Vegetarian options: Eringi, Zucchini, Tofu, Tomato yakitori Mentai carbonara Udon Yakionigiri All the desserts!
Love the Izakaya vibes we got when we entered. Quick and tasty Japanese pub fares just like how they do it in Shibuya in Japan. Whiskey highball best pairs with the skewers. Loved the Wagyu beef skewer, and the Umeshiso Yaki (Chicken thigh) with Japanese basil. Oishi! Skewers were $2-3 a stick. This is an Izakaya (Japanese pub) where you can enjoy a booze filled conversations with co workers and friends while enjoying small plates just like what they do in Japan. If you re looking for that, this is the place. Will definitely come back.
Went here for dinner last night. It was still an amazing experience. All in all is perfect. The food, the service and the environment. I always love to come here for a good time. Lovely place for yakitori. Highly recommend.
Loved the food and the atmosphere! Definitely a go to place for a good night out!
authentic japanese yakitori house.nice service n food
Amazing selection of Japanese BBQ skewers! Skewers are so juicy and tender even though a bit salty. Udon is one of my favorite noodles I found in Toronto downtown. Creamy, tasty but not too greasy. Great options for lunch or dinner. Matcha ice cream pancake is so creative dessert which I never had. Ice cream is not too sweet but is perfect option for green tea lovers. We would definitely visit again.
Loud izakaya, with delicious skewers! Favourite skewers include P-toro (pork), chicken hearts (sea salt), chicken gizzards, yakionigiri. Takowasabi and goma-ae are delicious too. Reservations recommended
This place is THE SPOT for legit Japanese skewer experience. If in doubt, just start off with their Zakkushi set then add more after. I personally recommend trying their wagyu beef skewer. Pricey, but in my opinion the best way to enjoy wagyu beef. You cannot miss on their Japanese cocktails. You will see every table getting Shiso Mojito. Get em too before they run out. I enjoyed their other drinks too but that mojito is really the BEST. This place is always packed, so unless you come early or super late, you are guaranteed to wait for awhile. Overall a great experience and Ive already went back a few times. Highly recommend!
We loved the authentic ambiance of the place, the efficacy of the service and above all, the food was simply incredible, so tasteful !
Basically, all the dishes are not overwhelming. Just order the meat you like according to your own preferences. I personally recommend sea salt for the chicken liver. The chili with the duck breast is very spicy. You can add it according to your own preferences. Haha. I have been here many times and it feels like a very authentic Japanese skewers shop.
I loved the restaurant and the food! Ive been to other similar ones, but this one exceeded my expectations. The only issue I find annoying is that you have a specific length of stay - but thats common in some restaurants in Toronto. Other than that, everything is very good!
Absolute best Japanese food outside of Japan Ive had with a great atmosphere!
Food was delicious, the atmosphere was awesome, and all the staff were fashionable af.
Not sure what to expect, but wow. Fantastic food. This place is known for their meats, so if you are a vegetarian, its not for you. They have a wide variety of meats that come grilled on skewers. My fav were the lamb chops, chicken wings, and their A5 Wagyu! Ive never had an A5 grade before and wow. Just like butter. Definitely worth checking out.
THE BEST SERVICE AND FOOD!!! Worth it!
I visited their various branches. This location was started bad on the first week. I then never cared to visit but after about an year I really thought it was as good as the Vancouver branch. Recently, I visited again and I can proudly say that its one of my favourite place for a jug of beer with yakitori. Thanks for being there.
Great spot for a snack. My first yakitori izakaya spot that gives off typical izakaya vibes. Came here on a Tuesday night after 9pm and didnt have to wait for a table for 2. Sadly we missed the $20 Sapporo pitcher special which ended at 7:59PM. We ordered 2 Sapporos on tap and 1 Zakkushi set to snack on. Skewers were really tasty and perfectly cooked. Would recommend and come back for a place to snack on. This place is quite pricey if you come hungry.
Probably the best Yakitori in Toronto. Premium pork all the way
An excellent izakaya. Just suffers in comparison to the others in the area. We ordered some sake and a bunch of sushi. Both the food and drinks were great, just neither were amazing for the area. Food
Food is not as good as before. Feels like interns are working there on weekdays. This place was very special with the yakitori options it offered, great atmosphere similar to a yakitori bar in japan. But the cooking and tasting is definitely not as good as it used to be. Consistency needs improvement.
Its delicious and the service is very friendly. Its a local restaurant that even Japanese people visit. The drinks are delicious and the main course is also good. My first cream udon success in my life.
Fantastic cozy spot for great yakitori! Order the chicken liver, teriyaki, and have it rare! It s amazing. Explore the whole menu, you cannot go wrong. Great sake and shochu selection, or grab a giant Sapporo. Just top notch food.
Great atmosphere, service and food. Asked our server if they had some authentic wagyu from Japan and after some conversing with his manager, they were able to sell us some expensive skewers from Miyazaki wagyu. Made the mistake of not ordering their normal Australian wagyu as well so for all we knew, maybe we ate Australian beef. It was good either way. Haha!
Amazing food!! Probably the best yaki in town. Our server Yoko is the best. Great atmosphere, food and beverage with seasonal menus. Will def be back!
I can only say one thing about this place, it is a spectacle, the staff is super attentive to the customer with everything in general, they are very careful with allergens. The dishes are very good, the place is very well decorated and a ten for cleanliness. If you are reading this far, I advise you to go to this authentic Japanese restaurant. The price is good for the quality they give you.
I am very upset about the reservation system and how they handled the seating in the restaurant. We called to book a table for four people. They only offered us a two people table because we only have two person arrived at the time. Once we kindly asked about the other empty tables, they lied to us saying that they all been booked up. But no ones showed up for any of those tables at all until we finished the dinner at the tiny table.
Sòooooooo nice!!!! Very nice and good service Ms. SARA was so kind , good advised and beautiful smiles ! She is Korean and Japanese two languages good and English too. We are very happy! God bless you
The best staff. Such great food. Always amazing
The scallops are the kings of these skewers I have been knocked off my feet! The Hassan Pink Sake did a fine job as well. The desserts lacked flavor, however that s not the main thing. The premier pork is meh, the other skewers are okay.
Amazing food and quick, friendly service but the staff constantly yelling is a bit off-putting. The scallop skewer and the takowasabi were the highlights.
Ingredients quality is very low. Paying high price for the low quality and quantity. chicken skin was soggy, garlic stem was too old, beef was chewy, pork was very fatty . Taste is also mediocre, most of the food are either overly salty or flavorless.
Cute but way overpriced for what u get
A lovely experience overall. Great good quality, service and authentic atmosphere. The food prices are reasonable but it adds up fast! Will be back for sure!
Food was really good, it was a lovely experience. Little skewers add up on your bill pretty quickly though, but worth trying.
Authentic and great transitional Japanese Izakaya place. Food quality it s really good too. I love the atmosphere here. They will turn off the lights and sign the birthday song for the guest. All people would sing together as well. Very good vibes here. Love the chicken liver here. They prepared it in the perfect tender texture just like the one that I had in Japan. Friendly staff. Only complain will be the salad dressing it s too sweet and little be too much. However, it doesn t stop me from coming back here again. Cream mintaoko udon also it s my favorite here. Tori egg soup really warms up my stomach here
Horrible food and service. Go somewhere else for a better experience. Shouldnt have to pay this much for so little food
Food: really great! Not one i would complain about. Definitely have some way better than others in terms of quality so try a bunch and pick what you like. I liked the oropon Beef a lot, and the ochazuke which Ive never had before but definitely have to try again. Drinks: their cocktails were just overpriced mixed drinks, in which i could taste nothing and Im a lightweight. Was overpriced orange juice with apparently lychee liqueur. would not come back for them. (Side note: No coaster for the amount of condensation that kept dripping either) Service: great !! Food came relatively fast, amicable staff. Side note: their protocol of everyone greeting you out (i believe) was really loud for my sensitive ears and interrupted our conversation on multiple occasions, but I understand it, as the place isnt meant to be a chill cafe vibe but a chatty area
This is one of very few yakitori (japanese skewer) restaurants in Toronto and arguably one of the best Izakayas. I ve come to eat here many times over the last ~10 years and the verdict is the same every time. The skewers are always seasoned well and cooked to perfection. I don t think there s a single skewer that I didn t like. They have a great selection of sake and japanese beers to pair with the meal. Loved the Age Mochi dish as a warm crunchy and chewy appetizer. The service is attentive always and the atmosphere is reminiscent of the izakayas back in Japan.
3.5 Service was nice and friendly. Food was ok. Our first round of yakitori came out cold. It s about the drinks.. their highball contains lots of ice (which I understand) but it was very bland from first sip.
Great Japanese skewer restaurants, the skew combination dish is pretty delicious, just the portion size is a bit small. The HIGHBALL Japanese drink is the best! Definitely will back again once a while.
Literally felt like I was back in Naha, Okinawa.
An authentic yakitori Izakaya in Toronto! A good variety of skewers to choose from and reasonably priced! Good menu that can cater everyone for different dietary needs. Everything ordered (skewers, carbonara udon, sashimi) came in fresh and flavourful. Very relaxed environment, good for gatherings or just unwinding from work. Only wished they have more sake to choose from (only 5 were available)! Otherwise, everything was perfect!
Perfect yakitori place!! I love it!!
One of my favorite places. I come here pretty regularly. I mean, who doesnt like grilled meats?! It is a little loud though, but it adds to the ambiance.
One of my favourite places I ve visited in toronto. Atmosphere and food is amazing. Always order the mackerel and takowasabi is a must
The chicken thigh, gizzard, rice ball and scallops were good. The horse sashimi and the skewer with plum sauce were a little bit too salty. The food was served very fast but it would turn cold before I ate it since I was eating alone. In general, its a nice place to go
Love this izakaya easily the best Japanese food in town. Quality food - the skewers are quite frankly mouthwatering, well seasoned, and charcoal grilled. Service is always spot on. Atmosphere is lively, vibe is great. I come here frequently whenever I get the chance to go downtown. I d be the happiest person if they open a location uptown sometime!!
Firstly, they are so loud every single second. I couldn t hear my friend s voice at all. Secondly, there s not much food choices other than skewers. It s also overpriced and expensive. Thirdly and most importantly, the waitress just impatiently asked us if we have finished eating and could pay the bill when we were actually STILL EATING. So impolite. It s as if they were eager to shoo us away. We were still eating and the waitress was so impolite and rude.wth
Love the food here! They have a wide variety of meat skewers and just a couple vegetarian options.
Go for the ambiance, the broad variety of hummer skewers (be adventurous!), sake and decent price. Be sure to reserve in advance as they get quite booked and hard to get a spot last minute. Will definitely go back!
The ZAKKUSHI SET is great for a quick snack. I didn t give five star because the price for the online order is lower from the bill I received when picking up the order at the restaurant. Not sure why they have this pricing practice. But great food otherwise.
This is my 10+ time here because its that good. Great japanese atmosphere, good services, and it has the best skewers in town no doubt.
Very good
My to go spot every other weekend to have a great time.
The service was outstanding!! The food was good too. Food
Skewers were meh and tiny, and flavour was boring for the price. We had the premium and regular skewer combo. Our plum wine cocktail was mostly grapefruit juice.
Cramped awful seating. Nothing I hate more than taking a date out, paying a premium only to sit across from her like it s a job interview.
Amazing food in an amazing atmosphere. Delicious, creative drinks. Thank you!
Amazing food and service. Been coming here since they opened up.
Great food, amazing service and experience. Thank you for the food!
We went on Halloween and the staff dressed in cosplay which was a fun bonus Service was super quick and attentive. there were no errors with our orders despite us ordering multiple rounds and multiple types of dishes it can be easy to end of spending a large amount here because each dish is a smaller size but its easy to be able to try many different items the beef skewers were very tender and flavourful - those would have to be my favourite the chicken skin app was also a great item, very generous portion and skin stayed crispy even until the end of the meal
Incredible authentic feeling of Japanese culture and food. The service was 10/10 from the phone call I made to reserve the table to the moment we paid the bill. Parking: Good luck !
Amazing vibes amd amazing food 10/10, no notes.
Pretty good japanese skewer restaurant. The prices are definitely a bit more expensive and portions are pretty small but the skewers tasted good. We really enjoyed the beef tongue the most. The appetizers were just okay. Service was also okay as well. Highly recommended making a reservation as they get busy and they also have a 2 hour seating time limit.
Too expensive!!! Not impressed
Delicious! A restaurant worth waiting for an hour.
food was good, some dishes are just overpriced
