We had the best time at Soos. We tried their tasting menu and loved every single dish. The dishes each came out at a steady pace and the servers were super attentive. The prosperity slaw and rice cakes were the star of the show - so delicious, and rich in flavour. Cannot wait to visit again soon!

Tasting menu was totally worth it. Many dishes, right sized portions and definitely left full. The food itself is delicious. Totally authentic Malaysian flavours with some classic and some very creative presentation. Highly recommend.

Soos is outstanding! The chicken tacos and octopus salad were my favourite dishes of the night. The chicken tastes like a satay and the taco shell had a lovely texture that was a bit crispy but didn’t fall apart. We also had the cod and prosperity slaw which were also excellent - so fresh and bright. The serving portions were perfect for 2 people to share. The service was really friendly and the restaurant had a fun vibe. Highly recommend!!

Great dinner spot on Ossington. Every dish is so unique and flavourful. We got the feed me menu which is $60 pp, excellent value and amazing variety! Servers and bartenders are so nice. Beautiful space. Great ambiance on the inside. The pork chops were so tender paired with the peanut sauce and the cod with curry was so flaky. Steamed rice cakes with pickled radishes was such a delightful surprise and wonderful beginning to the meal. Will definitely go back and recommend the same to others.

Delicious food and the service was good. Sat on the patio and it was alight (street side Ossington so high foot traffic, only reason for less stars on atmosphere) The burnt rice bourbon cocktail was good, but a touch too sweet for my taste (I like bourbon and usually favour spirit forward drinks, this one was sweeter than an old fashioned) Highly recommend the slaw!

I think Soos is a very nice place for quality food. Some negative reviews are definitely very personal. For example, I found my Char Kway Teow not enough salty and perfectly charred. People complain about it being too much cooked and salty. So, I asked for more salt and had a great experience. The waiters are amazing. Nice atmosphere.

This is probably my favorite restaurant in Toronto. It slaps every time, I’ve had the vegan tasting menu 3 times now. This review is for fat choi, but I’ve dined with people who eat meat and I love how they accomodate a vegan tasting menu with non veg ones. Every dish is just so delicious, nuanced flavors and textures. The Sambal and turnip cakes are a standout. I love that the menu regularly changes too so there’s always something new to try! Service is excellent too. And they just upgraded their seating to look more upscale and plush, also more comfortable. It is a consistent, solid choice for delicious food. Some of the best value for money with the tasting menu, very affordable at $60 with tons of food but as good as places like Lee and DaiLo that are $150-250.

This was a very underwhelming experience.. the food was definitely not authentic and had very weak Malaysian flavours. The sodium level was extremely high as well. Especially for the price for what you get on the tasting menu, it’s daylight robbery with the 20% gratuities. The drinks were too tart and the juice tasted overly concentrated. Not a fan. On a more positive note our server Wing was very friendly, helpful and attentive.

Weve been coming here for over a decade! This family-run restaurant remains in my top 5 places to eat in Toronto. It never disappoints. The tasting Feed Me menu remains one of the best deals in town, at $60 for an incredible array of Malaysian food. Fantastic wines and cocktails, plus non-alcoholic options, round out the experience. Service is always top notch. Highly recommend! Vegetarian options: Lots! Dietary restrictions: They are incredibly flexible here!

Enjoyed my meal very much! We did the tasting menu, which offered a good variety of dishes, and we were both full at the end. We were able to request dishes that we wanted to try. The food tasted good, it was hard to pick a favourite. Cocktails were delicious as well. Service was good. It was about $200 for 2 tasting menus, and 2 cocktails. Worth it for the quantity and quality. Would visit again. Only knocks were that they asked if we were celebrating an occasion, and we indicated we were, but it didnt seem like they did anything different, so then why ask? Also, could have been a little more attentive with the water bottle, but that was already towards the end of the meal.

I was looking forward to their plant based options. However I was extremely underwhelmed by what I ate. I ordered the bao $19 and the cumin noodles $26. Both the bao bun as well as the noodles were not made in house. The seitan is also not made in house. I was also charged for chili sambal which I doubt is made in house. The bao had lettuce, seitan and mayo. Nothing grand or fancy since it s all made from frozen and just assembled. It was tasty but definitely lacked something. The noodles were cold. Tofu crumble on top was overly spiced and really had not much going on flavour wise. I could have made both these dishes at home and better. I regret to say that I won t be coming back to try anything else. It just doesn t seem worth my hard earned money.

2024.10.17 This is not an authentic Malaysian restaurant. It is a trendy small restaurant with Southeast Asian elements that attracts young people and local customers. It is not suitable for diners who pursue perfect Malaysian taste. Food prices are high and portions are small. 150 yuan for two people is not a reasonable price.

Always a great dinner

October 23, 2024

I recently visited this restaurant hoping for an authentic dining experience, but unfortunately, it fell short in several ways. The food was far from what I expected in terms of authenticity. The dishes seemed to lack the traditional flavors and depth that are usually associated with the cuisine, and it felt like shortcuts were taken in preparation. To make matters worse, the service was underwhelming. The staff seemed disinterested, and we had to wait an unusually long time for our food despite the restaurant not being very busy. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and I wouldn t recommend it if you re looking for genuine flavors or attentive service.

This has been the most disappointing experience with a restaurant till date, I would give SOOS 0 stars if I could. I made reservations for my parents special birthday dinner weeks ahead for a table for 14. However, a week before to the dinner, my grandmother passed away and we were unable to make the reservations. Celebrating a birthday was the last thing on our mind, and therefore asked to cancel two days ahead of the scheduled reserved date due to the passing of my grandmother. The manager Lauren lacked empathy and said we had to have cancelled 72 hours before or still be expected to either come with a group of people to meet $300 worth of food or pay a cancellation fee of 300 dollars. I understand that their policies are firm but empathy and acting ethically is truly what sets apart a quality restaurant from the others. Clearly SOOS does not meet this standard as they overlooked this opportunity for $300. We obviously did not dine at SOOS as it is just inappropriate during our time of mourning. Luckily the bank reimbursed me after hearing my story. We were looking forward to possibly coming in the future but will now never be dining here. If you are planning to come here, you might as well spend your money on another restaurant which has far better morals than this place.

The food was great overall. Special mention to the roti, kway teow, prawns, slaw, the Malaysian tiramisu and Guava Colada cocktail. I dont recommend the fried mushroom (barely taste or see the mushroom) nor the braised beef. Way too noisy indoors. We had to speak very loud to hear each other. I would recommend their patio.

My friend recommended to come here for dinner. He literally said you need to work down Ossington and eat everything down the street . I took his advice and started booking them all. Soos being one of the spots that I booked on this trip and I am gonna review it. I came in here blind not knowing what to order, and just thought of just getting a tasting menu with my friends. When I entered the restaurant, I love the vibe already. The atmosphere was just stellar with busy people just wandering around, and the host literally gave us a good strong welcome and a smile to the restaurant. We were then seated to the back in this tiny little room and a nice table that could seat all of me and my friends comfortably. When we sat down the waitress arrived and she was nice and friendly. She knew the menu quite well as I had some questions about allergies since my friend was allergic to some things. And she knew exactly how to handle the situation so well. She suggested that we get some drinks to start and I ordered a Guava Colada. Guava Colada- This was delicious. The guava juice really mixes so well with the coconut rum. I enjoyed this a lot. It didn t feel like I was drinking alcohol at all. Which can be dangerous, the presentations was a little lack luster but overall a very good drink. 8/10 Prosperity Tossed Slaw- This was the show of the night. This slaw like salad like dish was amazing. The texture of the salad was biggest part of the show. The first crunch, literally crunch, was a good bite of the papaya with the taro root and the lotus chips. The sauce they used was a perfect Asian vinaigrette, and the fresh lime juices just searing right into the papaya was just astoundingly iconic. Would recommend just come for the slaw. 10/10 Satay Babi- this was a beautiful steak laid upon a huge amount of satay sauce. This was a beautiful take on the traditional street food of satay. I enjoyed how I can eat this with utensils and savor every bite of this dish. The sauce of satay was warm and the steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. It was delicious. This is a must order plate when you are here at Soos. 9.5/10 Cod in Opor- a nice stew, and I loved the opor. It was delicious, but we ordered a bowl of rice to kinda compliment the opor. It was perfectly balanced in salt levels and it was delicious. But the additional carbohydrates added a different delicious flavour with the fish. It really made the dish pop more with rice. 7/10 Rendang Braised short rib- wow this was a huge surprise for me. I loved the slightly charred cabbage as this was served with some rice at the same time. The sauce of the braised short rib was perfect. The meat fell right off the bones as you ate the dish and the deliciousness of the rib was cooked to perfection. Really did enjoy this dish a lot. I wished there was more meat and more cabbage to enjoy though. The cabbage was so much fun to eat. 9/10 Char Kway Teow- like any pan fried rice noodles with meat this was quite well done. I love how savoury the sauce they use and on top of that, it was perfectly steaming hot when it arrived at the table. The kitchen surely knows how to cook a perfectly plate of this. And not just that, the meat was sliced at a good size which you don t need to work that hard to chew on the meat. Loved that. This is an order again type of plate. 9/10 If I was to visit Toronto again, this is a must eat again type of place. And on top of that, I will be bringing different friends and maybe try out their brunch menu! Would love to just bring enough friends to take over that large table at the back and have a good large family dinner!

Came here on last Friday as my friends wanted to treat me for my birthday and was promptly greeted by the friendly staffs. We came as a group of 5, and they were quite accommodating in serving the dishes so it feeds 5. Kapitan Chicken Tacos 3.5/5 Great juicy chicken loaded on top of a taco shell. It was nothing wowing, but it was good. Dhal & Roti 3/5 I wish they had roti on the menu for Rendang! We ended up saving most of it for the Rendang which went REALLY well together. The Dhal was good, but again, nothing special. The portion did seem a bit low to share 5 rotis as well. Rempah Fried Mushroom 5/5 One of the best dishes from Soos. The combination of this hot, sweet, and umami filled dish was amazing. I loved the combination of everything and when I go back, I am definitely having this again. Sambal Chili 3.5/5 We ordered a side of Sambal Chili and I considered getting the jar but it tasted more like garlic chili oil than anything. It had a pretty good kick to it, but it wasnt really a sauce. Rendang Braised Short Rib 3.75/5 The Rendang was quite tasty, and the meat was quite soft. It just did not hit the spot for me as much as I thought it would. Char Kway Teow 5/5 This was an amazing dish. Added some Sambal Chili for some extra kick, and it tasted even better. Star of the night along with the mushrooms. Kopi Tarik Tiramisu 3/5 The portion was pretty big! I had pretty high expectations, but I would probably not order it again. I think I like my tiramisu a bit more soaked in coffee, and I found this to have a lot of cream that felt quite redundant towards the end. Overall, the service was solid and the food was pretty good as well. Would love to come back again now that I know some of the dishes that I really like!

Food was disappointing. The servers may be kind people in their personal lives but the service was not great. Let s talk food though, we ordered roti dhal, satay, char kuai teow and the sambal chili. The sambal was nothing like the real deal. It was chili oil and tasted exactly like my home jar Chinese chili oil. I know it s suppose to be Malaysian food reimagined but why is the food reimagined to be more bland? The peanut sauce was lacking flavour. Everything was lacking the authentic flavour and ang-moh-ified . Satay turned into a babi steak with peanut sauce was a good idea but wish the authentic flavours were kept. The roti with dahl was the only thing we genuinely liked flavour wise. If you re a Malaysian or Singaporean looking for authentic nostalgic flavour I would not recommend this place.

DRINKS: Madam Xine: decent, I dont have much memory left for this as its not really stand out. Nice Rice O.F: love the toasted rice in it, it gives a good asian vibe. Food was ok - nothing special and very salty. Service on the other hand - server was nice but the manager was awful. I came to this restaurant with friends from outside the country and one had never tried tequila and decided to order a cocktail with Mezcal. When it came to us he realized he did not like the taste due to the smokey flavour. Innocent mistake as he knows nothing about tequila. I politely explain this to our server and asked if we could change it for another cocktail. We were told this would be impossible since there was nothing actually wrong with the cocktail. Having worked in as well as visited many restaurants in Toronto I was shocked as this usually isn t a big deal at all. When I mentioned this the server basically said my manager won t let me change it - would you like to speak to her so I replied, sure. Manager came over (early 40s East Asian woman , didn t get her name) and was immediately condescending, combative and just overall rude, we barely got a hello. How could someone not know Mezcal is Smokey? I explained the situation and let her know that he genuinely did not know and she still was rude and insisted - nope, can t change it. Having worked as a manager myself I couldn t believe how unpleasant she was. Most she did was sprinkle some citrus in it to make it a little better. We were later given the bill with an 18% autograt for our large group of 5. Super disappointing as I had heard great things about this place and was happy to show my out of town friends a cool spot. Definitely not returning or recommending this place to anyone.

I can t remember the name but it tasted like watered down pineapple juice, no depth no creativity, certainly not worth the $48 bucks it cost. We ordered a variety of plant based apps including the bao, slaw, brocoli all were delicious. Then had some noodles also good. Huge disappointment with our final two mains: the curry, bland and came out cold and the short rib which was the biggest disappointment just utterly dry and flavourless. Finished with the fried banana ice cream. Also the service was disorganized and plain bizarre. Overall it was alright but likely wouldn t return. There were a fair few allergies/dietary needs at the table and the staff was incredibly attentive to all of us. Overall the serving team was lovely and very communicative. We also were not rushed in any way which was nice, as we could really enjoy all the courses. Came here for dinner on a Sunday night for a friends bday party. At first glance the place looked very small but cozy, we sat at the back room where I assume they host larger parties/ is their private area . We got to try the tasting menu that consists of 8 courses: Scrumptious Cakes 8/10 Kari Puff 9/10 Chicken Tacos 10/10 Chili Broccoli & Cauliflower 5/10 Pork belly Pancakes 7.5/10 Slaw 6.5/10 Kway Teow 10/10 Braised Short Ribs 9/10 Everything was overall very delicious, food came fast and the service was good.

Was craving for some real good Singaporean/Malaysian food. Decided to make a trip to these guys even though they are a bit far from me. Boy, they did not disappoint! Everything done not just right, but superbly. Heck, I will go just for the Kway Teow alone, its just that good. Superior service. Changed my plate and refilled water bottle twice during the meal. To note - they do not do lunch, must book in advance. Portions are half the size of what they serve in regular restaurants.

Very pleasantly surprised by everything from the service, the quality of the food, the quality of the drinks, and especially the separate vegan menu. I went to eat laksa because they said they had laksa, but I couldnt eat laksa because they said it was a limited-time menu and that it would open briefly in two weeks. I guess it was an event menu. It seemed like it only lasted a moment. As I was disappointed, I ordered chicken curry noodles and taco/lentil curry + naan, and I was quite satisfied. The chicken curry noodles were a bit salty, but considering it was a foreign seasoning, it wasnt too salty... The atmosphere was nice and the employees were friendly. We spent 80-90 dollars for two people with two cans of beer. one. th. silver! Its worth going

I knew I was in the mood for asian food but man! I was not expecting this. I was there as a table of four. Two vegans and two non vegans. We had the tasting menu. Which was well worth the $50 per person. (It could easily be that amount with a starter, entree and drink anyways) It gave us six rounds of amazingly diverse and eclectic flavours and textures. My mind and soul raced for hours after dinner with what happened. The food was deep in flavour and ambition. The chefs are not shy. The waitstaff was very intune with the restaurant and the diners. It felt upscale in a way but not stuffy. (I felt under dressed in a t-shirt, hoodie and a cap though) Such a great dining experience. Vegetarian options: Full vegan menu

December 23, 2023

This was by far the worst Malaysian food Ive ever had. It tasted like someone went to a Malaysian cooking class once and then created the menu. As someone with Malaysian heritage, this came off like poor Western appropriation. They have clearly focused their menu on drinks as it takes up about 80% of their menu. Zero depth to the seasoning of their food. My group ordered 6 items off the menu and all were very disappointing.

My family and I opted for the tasting menu, hoping for a remarkable culinary adventure, but unfortunately, it fell short of our expectations. Despite the glowing recommendations we had received about this restaurant and its service, we found both to be underwhelming. We did the feed me option and were so full by the end of it. Service was really good as well, attentive and knowledge about the food and drink menu. Best part for my lactose intolerant folks, no dairy on the menu. My favourite two were the Dahl + Roti and the slaw. Can t wait to return! Vegetarian options: Tons of vegetarian options. Dietary restrictions: We ll accommodate to dietary restrictions. Parking: Green P located at Ossington and Queen, limited space. Possibly less than 20 spots. One side of Ossington has parking throughout the day, the opposite states you can t park from 4-6pm. People still park, but just an increased chance of obtaining a parking ticket. Kid-friendliness: No kids menu and I didn t see any high chairs. I wouldn t say this is a kid friendly space, but you can try. Wheelchair accessibility: Washrooms are not accessible as they are located in the basement.

Speaking as someone born and raised in Singapore (adjacent to Malaysia), this place is phenomenal! Its hard enough to find a Malaysian restaurant here, much less an authentic one. Unlike other restaurants that water down the flavours for the western palate, I can say that Soos strives to retain authenticity in every dish. We ordered the Feed Me, which is like a Chefs Tasting Menu. The price is incredibly reasonable so we were not expecting much food, but we were completely full by the end of our 7-course meal. The standout dishes were the fish curry (brilliant use of lemon grass!), the char kway teow, the roti prata and sambal octopus. Everything from the flavours to the presentation took me right back to the tropics of Southeast Asia. We got the teapot cocktails and they were both great. The pulau tea was surprisingly strong but the pineapple one was definitely a hit - be careful not to overindulge because it has a high alcohol content despite the sweetness! Overall, I was very pleased with my experience here. Will definitely be back the next time Im craving food from home!

My husband and I ate at Soos tonight and chose the Feed Me tasting menu. This was our first time trying Malaysian style food, so we figured the tasting menu was our best option. We love tasting style dinners and our typical favourites are Indonesian and Indian. We felt the dishes were quite bland in comparison; not a ton of flavour. My husband s favourite were the sticky chilli chicken wings and my favourite was the slaw/peanut salad. It is a very busy spot! We didn t have a reservation, so we ended up eating at the bar. The chairs are very uncomfortable and it was SO hot in the restaurant, despite being a cool summer night outside tonight. The music was quite loud, so it was hard for my husband and I to even have a conversation. It was also really hard to hear the waiter explain what each course was. The wine was good, but $15 for a small glass seems steep. Our bill was over $190 for two tasting menu dinners + 3 drinks total and tip. The staff, however, were all very friendly and helpful.

Had a horrible experience here. 1. The prosperity slaw tasted alright, but the portion was so small! $23 of vegetables and it was barely enough for 2 people 2. Im not sure if the cook accidentally dropped the salt, but the Char Kway Teow was SO SALTY!! We went to complain that was not edible and the response is on #3. 3. When we went to complain about the Char Kway Teow, the Caucasian waitress with Fringe hair told us the following. Sorry its just how the kitchen makes things.. When we asked if it could be re-made with less salt, she told us The kitchen is closed so its too late. When we asked if we could just remove it from the bill, she said Ugh its your fault for ordering it, you should have known it was going to be like that. 4. Ive had many Char Kway Teow and they were never THIS SALTY! On top of that the portion was disgustingly small. $24 for a small plate of noodles.. come on. 5. When we were given the bill, they charged us $24 for the prosperity slaw instead of $23. I had to point it out on the menu for them to fix the price. 6. No apologies from the waitresses on the mess ups at all. To the owner: I really hope you have a chat with the Caucasian waitress, as her service and response to the Salty Char Kway Teow was unacceptable.

Loved it! My girlfriend and I came here for a nicer weekend date. It was a quality experience. When you come, you have the choice of the standard Soos menu or the vegan Fat Choi menu. We opted to do the feed me option off the Fat Choi menu. This meant that for ~$55 each, we got a selection of dishes from the menu. We told our sever a couple of dishes we were eager to try, but the rest were up to the kitchen. It was amazing. We got a good mix of sweet, savory, saucy, and refreshing dishes. All of them were a great size to share between the two of us. So we were both full, and both got the sense that we really sampled the best of the menu. The ambience was nice, perfect for our date night. The staff was super friendly and helpful. You have to make a little walk down some stairs for the washrooms, but theyre clean, individual rooms. All in all, I highly recommend and will be back! Vegetarian options: Theres an entire vegan menu in addition to the standard one! Dietary restrictions: There are peanuts and nuts on the menu, but the servers are diligent to ask about your restrictions, and seem willing to accommodate!

Food is absolutely delicious here. We basically ordered the whole menu as we wanted to try every dish. Most notable plates were the pork belly pancake, the octopus, and the braised beef. Everything came out timely and our server was delightful!

Soos is delicious, unique, and fun. I had the pleasure of trying several dishes and my favourites were the noodles (think: Malaysian pad Thai) and pork belly. The only item I tried that Id recommend passing on is their slaw - what seemed to be a take on Lees signature Singaporean slaw was forgettable. Thankfully everything else was good, though!

Small, quiet spot with good food and drinks Dont find alot of Malaysian food but the meals were solid. Favorite definitely was the cod in a lemongrass soup, can drink that alone! Slaw was good, wish it had lime or something acidic but thats a personal preference The noodles entree was probably the least favorite of all. A bit too oily, too salty/soy sauce and just didnt do much for us Meals arent a big must eat but youll have a great meal
