Love this place! My favorite tacos in the city and they have good beer and brunch. Staff are all great, fair prices and it s easy to find parking. Suitable for gluten and dairy free. We recently moved out of downtown but always stop by whenever we make the trip. Please bring back the gluten free brunch huevos rancheros!

Had dinner here. I like spicy food so I had to add hot sauce to the chicken enchilada. The table hot sauce had like a smoky taste. Guacamole was fresh and great. Overall good food, but the service was even better. Our server was Danny. Food and drinks came out quickly.

One of my favorite Mexican spots in the city! It is vegetarian friendly. Zucchini fritters are absolutely amazing, I can never get enough of them. Really liked the stuffed pablano peppers. Mushroom and crispy zucchini tacos were fresh and flavorful. Their staff is super friendly, the kind that can make a dull day interesting. Thanks for delicious food and great service!

But first welcome to Chula Taberna Mexican restaurant located in Leslieville which needs to be on your list of places to visit for more than one reason! Firstly, we got couple of beers to start with and they both were pretty good, like you can t go wrong with a crisp beer on a beautiful afternoon. Let s eat, shall we? Our first course was the appetizers, we decided to go with the classic, nachos and guacamole so delish! & the corn on cob fire!! Could eat this any given day! Our second course were tacos, I went with the Fish & Zucchini tacos and lemme just say! & Amit opted for the chicken and pork tacos & he couldn t stop eating! & for dessert we got ourselves a mango sorbet, super refreshing & my hot churros with homemade caramel sauce! Not the same as when I came here (7? 10?) years ago. Beef birria lacks flavor and beef was a little too dry. Chicken enchiladas and Baja chicken taco lacked flavor too. Nephews cheese quesadilla was a little lame - both the food/quality and presentation (tortilla, Monterey jack cheese? and some corn). Portions are small - left hungry after spending $50-60. Overall a disappointing experience.

This east end taco joint changed my life. I was lost, unsure of who I was, confused and now my life is so clear, so serene and centred. The Chula taco is not just a lifestyle choice, it s a state of mind. Thank you Chula my love, for completing the circle. Also, your fried zucchini balls are made of magic. Chula saved me.

I had a great time here! The food was delicious! And the drinks were tasty! I had the birria tacos and spicy shrimp tacos and they were some of the best I ve ever had. The service was top notch! Our waiter Bobby was amazing. Very friendly and very attentive. What a great guy! I highly recommend this place! A+++

Delicious classic Margaritas made with Agave Nectar was a nice accompaniment to the Chula Chicken Enchiladas. I was warned not to expect the traditional three with rice and black beans sides. It came combined on a sizzling cast iron platter sans rice. No regrets. I enjoyed every mouthful.

Great authentic Mexican restaurant! The flavors are there. We were passing through (vacation) and we took a take-out order and everything was excellent! Truly a place to discover.

Beautiful upstairs seating. Carne Asada was one of the best I ve ever had. Birria tacos were a bit smaller than what you get at other restaurants, but still amazing. Margaritas were well made and fairly priced. Our server was awesome too, great work!

I am posting this review regarding the indifferent behavior we received from the steward who served us at the restaurant. While the food was good, our experience was ruined by the stewards unbecoming and cold demeanor. He did not have a pleasing personality and seemed to treat us differently compared to other guests. We tried to explain that we are vegetarians and asked about the ingredients in the dishes, but he was not interested in answering our questions and was not receptive to our needs. I have never experienced such behavior at any other restaurant, and I am surprised given the good reviews I have heard about this establishment. The staff should be properly trained to treat each individual equally.

Great atmosphere, the patio is lovely and well decorated, they play latino music at a reasonable volume which is greatly appreciated because it allows you to talk to your friends :) Now, I am obviously biased because I am Mexican but this place was deeply, deeply disappointing drinks and food wise :( We ordered the Pisco Sour and Spicy Margarita and they were just ok, nothing to write home about We also had the ceviche trio which was weirdly sweet, especially the haddock one. I understand that some people like fruit on their ceviches but these were too sweet. Now I would ve been okay with this but when I asked for hot sauce, they brought what I m pretty sure was chamoy. Chamoy is not hot sauce, it has chillies sure, but it is not hot And so we decided not to order anything else and just leave. This place might be okay for you if you ve never been to Mexico or if you ve only been to a resort catered to white people but if you re Mexican and want some Mexican food because you re homesick skip it.

We came for dinner to celebrate a birthday... the nachos were not good... the cactus queso, mexican street corn, and zucchini fritters were decent . churro sundae was amazing but its a lot best shared (very sweet). overall decent experience, good use some more authentic twist and better drinks to improve the experience

Had another disappointing night at Chula this past weekend. I live in the area and used to LOVE this restaurant pre-pandemic. Im not sure if management changed or they just had to cut corners to stay afloat, but the experience has gone way downhill in nearly every aspect. Its a new menu and the food is very bland and mediocre now. We also ordered a pitcher of margarita and we genuinely thought they forgot to add the tequila (save yourself the $50). To cap it off, this last visit had the worst service Ive ever had. Our server forgot to enter parts of the order several times which when you couple with the issues above, just left us feeling deeply disappointed. I guess the one great thing that remains is their patio. So if youre in the hood and want a drink with some dips, its still a great option. Otherwise, save your coin and go to another Mexican spot.

Amazing service amazing food definitely a welcoming place, from parties the business to personal this place is at a point to be an amazing hideaway and I invite everybody to come try it

Everything was great, however our waitress provided quite poor service. We went for lunch around 3pm and it was quite dead, yet our waitress took over an hour to take our order. She was kind enough, but when we would ask for drinks or a refill, again it would take around 30 minutes, in a dead restaurant? We asked for more chips for our appetizer that she did not bring and when we asked another waitress she was able to bring them immediately. Afterwords we overheard the waitress then complaining about the tip we left, when it was honestly quite generous for the poor and extremely slow service she provided.

I used to love coming here a few years ago but my most recent experience was so poor due to the service, I don t see myself coming back. Since we were a larger group size and gratuities were included, our server literally avoided our table. It took forever to order food/drinks, then a really long time to get the food/drinks as well even though it was not busy. There were two other smaller tables beside us that he was very attentive and nice to, and it made me question if there was another reason he was treating us differently. We then had to wait 30 minutes to just get the bill making us late for our next event. My boyfriend got really frustrated waiting to pay so he went downstairs to see if someone else can help, and our server was just there hanging out and laughing with other employees. It made the celebration we were gathering for have a sour note on it and I personally would not recommend coming here for a special event. I m always understanding of customer service workers but this time around it was beyond frustrating.

Best patio! Fabulous cocktails and a whole plant based menu

Decent margaritas, food was just so-so. We found the calamari too rubbery (big, thick rings with an overly fishy flavor), the street corn was somewhat overcooked and mealy, and the tacos were average: we all agreed that the flavours were very muddled, nothing bright-tasting or exciting, just sort of generic. Patio was cute, and the service was totally fine and attentive.

Our server was very nice. We ordered a nice ceviche, was thinking it was a soup but actually nachos dip. The mexican street corn is good.

Alice should receive a huge raise! She was an outstanding hostest/bartender! Food was alright. Nothing to write home to mom about. However, authentic. Best: churos I ever ate in my life!!! Mariguritas syrupy and too much ice. Liked the lime one out of the three flight; call me boring. Music loved and was really great, volume perfect, however, needs a dance floor.

The food was amazing. I got the Camarones, Tinga, and Street taco tacos, there were absolutely delicious. For a drink, I had the Paloma, it was super goos. The whole experience was as authentic as I hopes it would be.

Good service. They were very friendly. The food was good and I highly recommend the cool salad. I also recommend the tacos, since they were delicious for me. The nachos with guacamole and pico de gallo were also very good, since the guacamole and pico de gallo were homemade. I recommend going.

The food was so good I forgot to take a picture of the mains, assorted tacos - we instantly devoured it. But I remembered the appetizer (Ceviche) and dessert (Churro Sundae)! We booked a table on the backyard patio ahead of time. The weather was warm but under the sunshade it was perfect. I would definitely eat here again and would consider a staff lunch/dinner there as the tables come together to host a large group. They have a plant based menu as well, so all are satisfied nicely. Came in with a group of 9 and was grateful to sit in the air conditioned indoor seating back section (humid and hot out) Bobby / Robert was our most excellent host ~ wait staffer, being both hospitable and energetic friendly! Thanks also to the other wait staff that pitched in to assist! Food - decent guacamole and deep fried tortilla chips. I ordered chicken enchiladas. While not my 1st choice after eating it, due to the exterior layer being more thick & bready than expected, the sauce was still nice and light with the filling having a substantial amount of chicken. They has some other untraditional Mexican dishes, such as beef short ribs with potatoes and also scallops & adobo aioli (I wanna try this one next time!!!) Dessert, we shared a tres leches with fried ice cream. Loved the thin crispy layer on the ice cream. The cake was more of lovely vanilla cake with cream vs a traditionally soaked-thru cake in milk tres leches. We would come again to try the scallops, as it looked amazing (someone else had it on our table) and because the staff was so great! Middling is the best way to describe this. Nothing was too bad, but it also wasnt good either. The zucchini fritters were cold, the crispy zucchini tacos were soggy, and the margaritas were absolutely forgetful. Nothing to hit home about this place at all - best to visit if you want a forgetful meal.

My husband and I went there for dinner. When we arrived one party was ahead of us, and the sign said to wait to be seated. The young lady came and took them to their table and then came to us and ask us how can she help us. Last time I checked it was a restaurant and it said to wait to be seated. So we said table for 2. By the way we are black. Then we set and a group behind us that was seated after us was ask before us if they were ready, while we sat there ready to order for a minute. The atmosphere was extremely cold for a black couple and the food was ok. Btw the waiter that took our order was respectful. I won t be going back, I ll take my money elsewhere.

This spot is a great Riverdale/Leslieville spot for some tacos and drinks. One of my favorites around and maintains the same level of awesome food, drink and service each time I go. All of the tacos are packed and flavourful, but I would recommend the Carne Asada the most. Extremely packed and tender meat with the perfect accompanying toppings. The Mexican Caesar is so such a perfect twist on the standard Caesar!

Good food, Great atmosphere and service. Server had good vibe and recommendation for dinner. Went for my son s birthday, we brought our own ice cream cake for celebration and gave it greeting lady with instructions to be kept it in the freezer. When we got cake back which was completely melted.

First the food. This was the least amount of avocado Ive ever encountered in a Mexican restaurant. The flavour profiles ranged from very tasty in some cases to extreme acidity and pretty heavy handed on the salt. There were no indications on the menu around level of heat, so no matter what you order, how hot your food is will be a surprise. Furthermore the waitress didnt check in with us on heat preferences. The drinks were delicious and theres a good variety offered. The place is small and therefore fairly crammed in terms of table seating. The music. It was strange to eat mexican food in a Mexican themed restaurant and listen to trans and House music. Id expect some sort of authentic Latin music, or even a bit of a mix from this place. Final detail - in the reservation I had an opportunity to indicate if this was a special occassion and I did - we were celebrating a birthday. The restaurant didnt make any effort to address or celebrate with us - not sure why this question is asked in the reservation form if its not addressed at all.

We always enjoy eating here. The food and service are great and the atmosphere inside and outside (great back patio) are awesome. On this occasion though we had the team at Chula cater a birthday party for 25 people and everything was perfect. The food was ready on time, it was warm and fresh, the portions were generous, huge selection of toppings to go with our meat & veg tacos. Everyone raved about the food and the cost was very reasonable as well. We would definitely use Chula for catering again, and again, and again......

I decided to drop by with my wife as we were in the area and feeling like some mexican food. We decided to try out there new brunch menu, my wife went for the mushroom benny and i went the breakfast burrito. We got a appetizer the nachos with the cactus dip, guac and pico de gallo, LOVED IT, the cactus dip had just a slight heat to it, the guac and pico had that freshnees to cool it down, definitely left there satisfied. Would recommend the food and looking forward to the next time there.

Chula needs to up their hot sauce game. The extra hot sauce that our server brought us from the kitchen barely had any heat to it.

UberEats Order Had an eggplant burrito in my order and the food was tasty but I could barely taste the eggplant. Very filling and worth a try! Edit: Not the eggplant burrito but the zucchini burrito, I mixed the vegetable names sorry ^_^

Had a dinner here with some friends. I would say this is a very westernized spot for Mexican food. Not the greatest food. They put bell peppers on almost everything, like the elotes and guac lmfao We ordered elotes and they give you 1 cob cut in half and it was $11??? Lollllll. The tacos were good, but again, not the most authentic. The consommé and birria tacos were kind of bland. Our server was a delight and the atmosphere was really nice. I probably would not come back.

It s my husband and I s second time visiting Chula Taberna, one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in the city! We had Beef Birria and Carne Asada tacos, Chula Chicken Enchilada, Mexican Street Corn, Ceviche Trio, Crispy Calamari, and Churro Sundae for dessert! Everything we had was so good! My favorites were the calamari, beef birria and mexican street corn! The service is superb! I highly recommend this place.

My fiancé and I went to try out this Mexican restaurant and it was such a hit! The food was all great, the service was top-notch and the restaurant itself was so festively decorated. Our server, Bobby, really made the experience. He was super attentive, sweet and gave some great recommendations on the dishes. The restaurant is decked out in beautiful Mexican decor, Dià De Los Muertos skulls and had festive Mexican music playing. We ordered a wide array of dishes since we wanted to try so many of them! For starters we had the Cactus Queso Dip to share and Mexican Colas. The dip was piping hot and absolutely DELICIOUS! The Mexican Colas were also a little more zingy than regular colas and were so refreshing. For mains we got their Beef Birria tacos, a set of their classic Baja Chicken tacos, and an enchilada. Everything was scrumptious and cooked to perfection. The Beef Birria tacos was so flavourful and tender, by far my favourite savoury dish we had. For dessert we ordered the legendary Churro Sundae to top it all off. It consisted of two freshly-fried churros stacked between two scoops of vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce drizzled over it all and topped with a mint leaf. IT WAS POSITIVELY HEAVEN! I would highly recommend this place for its great atmosphere, top-notch service and spectacular Mexican cuisine. We will definitely be coming back! From the juicy meats to the fresh toppings, each bite is like a little slice of taco heaven. But its not just about the food, its about the whole experience. The staff here are the real MVPs, Danny was attentive, friendly, and passionate about what he does always ready with a smile and recommendations. Overall, my experience at Chula Taberna Mexicana was nothing short of spectacular. I cant wait to return and explore more of their menu.

Tried the calamari and guac with chips for appetizers. Chicken, beef, fish, and pork tacos. The tacos were $5 each for Taco Tuesday. The calamari was ok. Nothing great but the portion was less than expected for the price point. Id skip the calamari. The guac didnt taste fresh and the chips given to us were full of broken crumbs. Wouldnt recommend. The beef and fish tacos were good enough to recommend. The chicken and pork tacos were very dry even though there was a good amount of sauce. Overall very unsatisfied with the food. The service wasnt great. I came to try a local place after reading reviews but left disappointed.

Been here a couple of times for brunch, lunch and dinner. Service is always on point. Love the patio! Probably the biggest reason I come here. The tacos are not the best in the city but still pretty good. Here are the recos: Brunch: Queso Fundido and huevos Rancheros Lunch/dinner: Birria tacos (the besttt) Fish tacos (good) Ceviche with mango and habanero (good but the portion is so so tiny) :( The biggest critique Ive is that their Salsa is not spicy at all :(

Horrible. Ordered the chicken & bean enchilada. All chicken, I literally counted 6 beans. It tasted like someone opened a can of enchilada sauce, added it & then put in too much spice. Inedible. Dining companion had the pork burrito, which had 1 piece of meat in it. Avoid at all costs At least the waitress was really nice.

We went to celebrate our birthdays here, a group of 20 people; the service was very slow, the food didn t make it on time or we had issues with it; they charged the tip on the bill and then asked for it again on the machine; the food is not authentic and not worth the cost; as a Mexican myself I don t recommend going to this place.

Unfortunately I had a terrible experience, food took a long time to serve, slow service in general, small and expensive drinks, terrible food, sorry, who told you that Mexican food is sweet? Do you seriously think the menu is Mexican food? and at the end on the ticket they put a tip already included and at the end they ask for a tip again, that is a robbery, I will never return there and I will not give a good comment, Im sorry

Terrible food, not even close to an idea. Too expensive I agreed to the service. Very little food. Although the drinks were good, the food was a very small portion of ingredients. $30 for a trio ceviche that comes with three pieces of 1 shrimp and two pieces of fish is a joke.

What a pleasure to see that Chula has a separate plant-based menu! Our server, Alice, was so lovely and friendly that I had to write a review. The other server who brought the food to our table (and extra napkins when I spilled my drink on my lap) was also super friendly. Its sad that it seems so rare to find good service these days so I wanted to give a shout out to Alice and the rest of the team here. And thanks for the vegan options! Ill just say that the black bean tacos were a bit dry and bland but the rest of the dinner was fabulous and the ambience was really fun!

Hands down Bob is one of the nicest servers I ve ever had. Super friendly and truly likes the work that he does. My feedback is for the kitchen: our food was WAY too salty. We ordered the Cactus Dip and the Beef Birria and I left with such a headache, and I know it s because of the amount of salt I ingested. It s too bad because we were really looking forward to trying the food.

Shout out to server bobby, he made the whole experience spectacular. Food was good with many many many options. Same for drinks from shots to cocktails. The espresso martini was pretty meh but it was within expectations still. The only server was booby - who was on the bar, at the front and serving tables. Chaotic but he managed to convey personality to everyone he served. Overall a good time and would come again 7/10

This place was incredible. The Food and Atmosphere was phenomenal. The staff were on point and consistently taking care of us in a packed establishment. My only regret was I didnt tip them more then 20 percent. Definitely will be coming back when the roof top patio is open.

It was my first time and everything i tried was so good. Danny was very kind in serving us. He made sure we got all items on time and that we are good for everything. I highly recommend their chipotle mango chicken taco, super crispy and full of flavours. There is a cool patio at the backside which is a good spot during summers.

Delicious! We went for Valentines, they had a very reasonable set offer. We got the cactus queso dip, the chips were crunchy and the dip was warm and gooey and salty, yummy. We got the birria and shrimp, both excellent. The shrimp was bright, light, and very tasty. The birria was a deeper flavor, super delicious as well. Finally, we had the ice cream churro, that was unbelievable. Definitely leave room for dessert! We also had margaritas, they were just okay. Overall, would definitely go again, and try different things, solid recommendation!

Upon Arrival there was a mix up with how our reservation was booked through opentable ( as indoor seating as opposed to patio which was the only option available on the app) and were told there are no availabilities however the manager was quick to find a solution and accommodate us on the patio due to a no show reservation. Food is great, I would definitely try the corn as it is unbelievably tasty and amazing! The ambience and music also add that latin flare which is what we drove for 40 minutes to get to Chula. There are bees and flies which is what you would expect mid summer and unfortunately they really really loved our table for some reason. What really topped it for us was Danny s ( our server) consideration as he was apologetic ( even though not his fault) and attended to our needs fighting off bad insects. Definitely recommend this place!

What a great spot for dinner with friends. The service was outstanding! I only wish Id grabbed our servers name because he was quite possibly the best server Ive had in Toronto. The margaritas trio is the way to go if youre not sure what you want to drink. My favorite was the Mango Y Habanero. It was perfectly paired with all the food. Appetizers were good, served hot and crispy. Salsa was nice. The hot sauce was lacking, though. For a Mexican restaurant, I would have liked a nice hot sauce. The one they had wasnt spicy and didnt add to the flavors of the food. Dinner was the Braised Beef rib. Fall off the bone and tasty. Im looking forward to trying their tacos next time, which I probably shouldnt have missed out on.

Cozy restaurant with a great atmosphere, not too loud. We orders mostly Tapas and they were amazing, the Cerviche Trio is really worth ordering as they were all delicious. The Crispy Calamari was done to perfection. The Beef Rib was also cooked to perfection, so tender and juicy. Service was prompt and efficient. Worth a repeat visit for me.

I don t know why Chula isn t mentioned as the best taco joint in Toronto?! The Birria tacos are one of the best I ve had in my life. I just got back from San Diego and was craving Birria. This satisfied my cravings plus some. The shrimp taco was also very fresh and light. I loved it. Shout out to Bob for the great service.

I enjoyed taco dinner with my girlfriend here on a cold Tuesday night . Every Tuesday they have classic tacos for $5 each and they are quite loaded with vegetables and sauces. The one that surprised us the most is the vegetable tacos with fried zucchini. All the tacos were great and would definitely recommend this to anyone who is crazing them . Overall rating would be 7.8/10.

My favourite Mexican restaurant in the east end. Chula has a nice small restaurant with big flavour atmosphere. The food is very well priced for the quality you get. The drinks are also top notch. The servers all take great attention to detail and are always an earshot away. Go now!

Had a great experience last night. Our server Bobby is a pro. Tight and bustling urban space. Food was excellent and just what I was craving. Guac and homemade chips were spot on. Fish tacos were outstanding! Birra were good too, but I always prefer the fish generally.

I ordered through UBER eats and food was horrible! The beef bowl was all meshy and mixed so that it was one big layer of sauce n no rice almost with lots of beef! No balance there and honestly I couldn t eat it the taco for almost $9 was only one Taco and with a bad tasting bread!! It wasn t fresh! I m not sure why the rating was so high on uber eats site because thus far this was the worst Mexican food I ever had!

We came to Chula for our 6th anniversary. When we arrived, we were greeted by the host and given a table immediately. We met our server, Bobby, who was one of the best servers we have ever had. He gave some excellent recommendations, specifically the Zucchini Fritters which were AMAZING. We also got two excellent Margaritas, and also discovered that you can order pitchers. Bobby was fantastic with food allergies, and the food was absolutely amazing. (Zucchini tacos are to DIE for , especially as a Vegan). Overall a fantastic experience, and our new local Mexican cuisine. Bobby is deserving of all of the praise. 10/5 Vegetarian options: Had the zucchini fritters, as well as the Mushroom Adobo, and Zucchini tacos. To DIE for

From service to food to ambience, everything was on point! Hearty big delicious dishes! I had the beef barbacoa burrito bowl and it just melted in my mouth how tender and juicy it was.
