2 Follis Ave, Toronto, ON M6G 1S3, Canada
Cozy bar with a dark decor & front patio serving cocktails, beer & Mexican fare plus weekend brunch.
It is a gluten free Mexican-food place. The place is so cute and a whole different vibe. You can order anything without thinking twice and any additional questions. I am celiac and was totally okay after the food. Churros are must try. There are many vegetarian options available. If you are a non vegetarian, please try fish taco. Everything tasted so good. Must try place. Prices are also good.
Great service and food.....atmosphere is energetic.....we had ceviche, pollo fritos, birra poutine, tacos de pescado and gluten free churros...too good to pick a favorite. One member of our party has a gluten allergy....no issues here. Excellent cocktails complimented the overall experience 👌
Bottom line. Food I ate was flawless. Freshness, quality ingredients, texture, plating, aroma, mouth feel - you name it, it was excellent. Now the breakdown. A smallish Annex located establishment with adequate seating that has a cozy local vibe. Pricing is reasonable given to quality and so forth for the Toronto market. Service is personable and the owner is sociable and takes a lot of pride in everything they make - nothing is bought and everything is house made. Even the dulce de leche, the dip accompanied with the generous portion of 4 churro stocks is homemade. Their tortilla chips are the best I’ve ever had as they are homemade and perfectly crunchy as well as seasoned and not greasy. The salsa is a perfect mild aromatic dip that I could have drink from the dipping bowl. The sales verde was also the best I have ever had containing cilantro , onion, salt, green tomatoes as some key ingredients. The flavour was perfectly balanced and this too you could inhale. They’re clean and simply guacamole with perfectly ripened avocados, salt, onion, some salsa Verdi, lime juice and cilantro. This is one of the best in the world as I’m concerned. The fish tacos were stunning at the least. Perfectly cooked with an excellent crunch, moist inner texture, zero fishy smell or taste, and the seasoning was spot on. Set on a nice small corn tortilla and covered with a light dressing and red slaw making it crunchier and complimenting the whole taco. The corn appetizer was also amazingly simple yet perfectly balanced starting with a nicely charred Cobb covered in cheese flakes, cilantro, and what seemed to be a spiced mayo mix drizzled over the corn made an exception mouth experience. Thought they have an excellent alcohol program that they are quite famous for, we opted out of this but other patron claimed great reviews of all their mixed drinks. I’m not a sweet nut, but a must to finish the meal are the churros. Perfectly cooked without a greasy texture, crunch is excellent and the perfect ratio of cinnamon and sugar coating. The bonus is the home made dip mentioned earlier. By the way, all this great food is gluten free. Yes you read correctly. The entire menu is gluten free and is a haven for those seeking quality food in the GTA. Bottom line go and do make reservations as they boom up really fast or go very early.
The atmosphere at El Pocho Antojitos is fantastic—lively and welcoming, with a great vibe. I visited with two friends, and we enjoyed some drinks and chips. The food and drinks were good, but the prices felt a bit high for what we ordered. Unfortunately, our server didn’t seem very attentive, which was disappointing, and someone else ended up cashing us out. Despite this, the overall experience was enjoyable, and I’d still recommend it for the ambiance and flavors!
I went to this restaurant for my friend's birthday and honestly I gotta say, my favourite Mexican restaurant in Toronto! We had their fixed menu 5 course meal, and the food was so filling and so delicious! The service was also incredible. I'd highly recommend going here with friends and getting the fixed price menu. It was so delicious, would go again!
Super cute restaurant in the neighbourhood with good food! The little plates are great for sharing and trying a lot of different things. The heated/enclosed patio is really awesome (though seating can be a little bit cramped). Staff are very helpful and great at giving advice on what/how much to order. Lovely spot!
God I can't describe how much I live finding restaurants like this - finding a wholesome authentic joint in a cool residential neighborhood. The appetizers were BANGING, good god, the chicken bites and white fish; I would have ordered 10. The tacos were also awesome, god a wide range of fish, steak, chicken, etc. drinks were also delicious. Then to top it all off, getting these warm buttery churros were POPPING, thanks again 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Went as a large group at around lunch hours. Very cozy. We had tacos for the most part which were delicious as well as the drinks. Service was great. Food was on time. It was a great experience.
Spectacular. Really so amazing. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. A beautiful outdoor enclosed space even in the winter it s kept nice and warm. The service was warm and friendly too. If you come here it will become a favourite. Spicy margarita was sophisticated and so special. The two types of tacos I tried, the bean and beef based tacos were both spectacular. I also had the churros and they were perfect in every way. Please come here!! It is appropriately priced for the value, whatever you spend you will be satisfied!!
Tasty and spicy food, 100% gluten free and celiac safe. The rock music is a bit too loud. The entrance is also hard to find Dietary restrictions: Celiac safe
El Pocho is a lovely spot for delicious Mexican food. We recently hosted our office holiday party at this intimate restaurant off Bathurst and it was the perfect setting for about forty of us. The vibe is relaxed and the atmosphere was just right for the occasion. James and the El Pocho team prepared an amazing catering menu that was both creative and delicious. I highly recommend El Pocho for a couple s night out, dining with a group of friends, or catering for a special event. Give it a try, and youll soon be thinking about when to return!
Gluten free menu! The entire menu, including the churos!! I ve never had them before and I love them. The tacos were fabulous! Homemade guac and chips were amazing! Such a lovely atmosphere and a heated patio too! The whole experience was perfect! I will absolutely be back. Heaven for celiacs! Thank you so much! Dietary restrictions: Celiac safe! Parking: There was ample street parking available.
Had a group event. Bailey was our server and was totally on point. Service from all of the staff was great, the food and drinks were fantastic. Great atmosphere. Fun vibe. Highly reccammend!
Went to catch up with my friend Gaby from out of town. We had such a fantastic time!!!The food was sooooo flavorful and the drinks were just perfect. I will definitely be back
It is a shame that this restaurant has such poor service because it is in a great location. My colleague and I took visitors here and we were disappointed by the tone set by our server who firmly reiterated too many times that we had a restricted dining time due to a reservation coming. A restricted dining time is normal but being rushed and made to feel unwelcome is not. The chilly attitude was noticed by our visitors and made for an awkward environment for us to be in. Every interaction with the three staff that came by our table was rude. Not once did they ask us how the food was, only came by to rush us. We had ordered dessert and were eating the last course and having cocktails when they came by with the pos thirty minutes before our out time. They didnt even say anything. They just put the machine in our faces. There is an autograt of 20% on groups of 5 or more. The typical standard is 6-8 or more. From the photos on Google maps, they recently changed this from 6 to 5 in the last year, probably due to low tips because of their poor service because given the choice we would not have tipped 20%. 10% would still be generous. I hope our servers move on from hospitality because it seems to be killing their souls and its affecting all of us. Not surprising that their low reviews say the same thing about their hostility and attitude towards groups. Wheelchair accessibility: The washrooms are downstairs and there is a step at their front door.
A gluten free paradise. Get the churos!
Really good food, but prices are a bit much for the portion size. Youre paying for the amazing flavours and not to get full. Wheelchair accessibility: Bathrooms are NOT accessible
Food was amazing. Small portions gives you the opportunity to try a few things. Everything we had was delicious. Tasted more authentic than most places you find in Toronto. Vegetarian options: Quite a few choices for vegetarians Dietary restrictions: Decent Options for vegans and vegetarians Kid-friendliness: There is a kids menu
Great food, service and ambience! Would recommend for any dining occasion
Highly recommend.
El Pocho is an alternative Mexican restaurant, with flavors that will make you travel to Mexico and back in 5 minutes while enjoying your Antojitos. The waitresses who served us were very friendly and provided an excellent service. Muchas gracias, estuvo excelente.
Best mexican food in toronto
The best Mexican food I ve had, this is a gem worth seeking out.
Amazing food, kindest owners ever.
Great food, kind service and a wonderful experience overall!
Delicious celiac friendly restaurant. Everything on the menu is gluten-free and it taste so delicious, you wouldn t even know. I had Ceviche, elotes, carne asada, fish and poblano tacos. I also had the churros. Everything was delicious, high quality and authentic + affordable. I want to gate keep this place from getting too famous but I also want the owner of this establishment to sleep on riches. Will be coming back here especially with my partner who was diagnosed with Celiac. Thank you
Great food, reasonable prices and fast service! All food was gluten free and I got to enjoy churros for the first time in a long time! Dietary restrictions: All dishes are gluten free, including the churros!
Entire kitchen is gluten free. So good food. Food so good? Very good. Try the churros !!!! (Literally) They have gluten free churros. Also the fish tacos. Service was amazing, give the nice bearded man a raise and a tip. Great cocktails. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free celiac
Initially, we just went for dinner after playground time with my son and didnt really expect much but oh my, what a gem! food was delicious, service was wonderful, although in the end the whole place was full (Monday night!) and I think waiters were a bit overwhelmed. But the vibe, the food was great! definitely coming back!
Walked in for dinner last evening to celebrate hubby s birthday . We were a family of 5. The server asked us if we had a prior reservation. When I replied in the negative he asked us to wait to enable him to check despite 3 large tables inside were vacant. Came back & informed that for 5 people it will be a single bill + 20% gratuity. Was taken aback by this information as the best restaurants have this clause if you are a group of 6 or more with 18% gratuity. Agreed to this & were led to our table. I informed him that this was a family dinner to celebrate hubby s birthday. No positive response, no exceptional service despite him getting 20%gratuity. Food was good but will not recommend or patronize this place for the staff behaviour. Did not feel welcomed at all. Hope they improve their standards of service to generate repeat customers. Vegetarian options: Limited options for vegetarians.
The food was delicious and service was good too. Vegetarian options: The menu was flexible and had a few nice vegetarian options. Food : 5/5 |
Honestly, the food is lacking Flavor. But their overpriced drinks are delicious
Dietary restrictions: Everything is gluten free! Accept the beer. Food
One of my fave authentic mexican restos in the city! Completely gluten free, a celiacs dream. The atmosphere and service is also great!
The BEST food I ve ever had in my life!!! Absolutely amazing from the drinks to the food. I would give it at 10 star if I could!!!
Best Ceviche in Toronto yet. Its a gem. The cocktails are delicious and potent. Cannot recommend enough
DO NOT BOOK FOR GROUPS OF 5+. I booked for 5 for a birthday and put down a $250 deposit. Once we arrived, we were informed that we had to have an overpriced 4-course meal (50$ each + tax & 20% auto-gratuity, not including drinks). Mind you, I called to book, and this was never mentioned to me. After some arguing, the waitress converted the set menu to a $250 minimum spend after tax and tip, which was not ideal but we agreed to. The manager (owner?) came a few minutes later to inform us that the $250 minimum was before tax & and tips, which is unreasonably high in our view. We ended up over-ordering food & drinks, getting a second round, and even taking a box of churros home to meet the minimum spend The food is good, but the drama around the minimum spend left a bad taste in our mouth and ruined the experience.
Love this neighbourhood spot, we keep coming back and they ve always been consistent! Also for those who are gluten-free or celiac, this place is absolutely perfect for you. Everything is gluten free, and they are really good at accommodations. Dietary restrictions: Good for those who are celiac and gluten free.
I made a reservation that I had to cancel last minute due extreme rain and heat that impacted my health as well as someone else in our group (the restaurant doesn t have AC). I was told that if I just rescheduled my reservation that I wouldn t be charged, so I decided to reschedule for a later date. The following day, I was charged $250 to my credit card. When I called the restaurant to seek a refund (since this went explicitly against what they had told me), the person on the line became extremely defensive, called me a liar, and said I was making up stories . I was told that I was charged this amount because their policy states any group over 5 is required to do the prix fixe at $50 per person, and I didn t give enough notice before changing the reservation. Ultimately it was my mistake for not reading the fine print (I live in the neighbourhood and went there often, so I wasn t concerned at the time), but the way that this was handled was so offensive that I will never return to this restaurant. It s also a terrible policy, since a group of 5 is not considered a large party and should not be forced into a Prix fixe. Lesson learned!
Great food, great cocktails, great service.
As a celiac, a place like this is a godsend. 10/10 taste and great staff. You have a customer for life! Just keep in mind that the kitchen is tiny so the waits are usually pretty long. Worth it, though!
Love El Pocho - top notch menu and everything is GF. Churros is generally not something that is on a Celiacs diet but it is possible here. Must try the fish tacos, ceviche, and home made sodas. As well, must mention their customer service. We received a take out order that was not up to par with the service we had until then. Contacted the resto and they were prompt to reply and invite us back in to make it right. Will be back many more times.
Two of us had lunch here today, first time for both of us. We thought the flavours were super, but thought the value was weak. The room is rustic and simple - it would be noisy I think if full, today it wasnt and it was easy to talk. The server was good, friendly and competent with a sense of humour. Portions are small - unlike most Mexican restaurants the tacos come without rice or beans. A very small dish of guacamole and some tortilla chips cost $14.50. so for a light bite if money isnt a concern, its worth a visit.
Casual restaurant serving unique specialty offerings. Very tasty and enjoyable!
Amazing food for a decent price. Love that they had a patio! I live nearby and stumbled upon this spot without ever going and had to try! I was not disappointed! I m considering coming back for my Birthday again! Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free. Peanut Allergy
Delicious and great vibe. They were quite busy, so service was a bit slow, but it was very good.
Although it is a Mexican Restaurant and the sauce is part of it, I asked the waitress for some sauce and it took a long time, I ordered it with another waiter and he brought it to me, the waitress brought me another sauce much later, a mini plate with sauce. They charged us $2.50 each sauce, when they took a while to bring it and it should be like asking for salt. The portions are mini, the tuna tostadas are like tortilla chips. In short, the only good thing was the lemonades.
Lovely food. We will come back.
Honestly, this was easily the single worst dining experience I have ever had since moving to Toronto and quite probably the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant ever. I genuinely felt bad letting my friend pay for the meal because it felt like I got scammed with my meal. I ordered the pulpo (octopus) and, while it was cooked well, the portion size was so ridiculously small that both my friend and I were stunned. It was, at best, 7 of the tiniest octopus pieces on a plate of glorified sauce for $15. I then ordered $10 flan, which was tasty, but was again way too small for the price. At $30 per person, neither of us should have left hungry and I did. I ended up making food for myself at home so I wasnt too hungry to sleep before my night shift. To call this restaurant shameful is a kindness really and I have no understanding of how anyone can rate this place anything above 2 stars. Spend your money somewhere else so you actually can eat a meal. No amount of cooking skill can make up for how shamefully overpriced these miniscule portions are. It is actually offensive that they serve such small portions with confidence.
I found this place on google and just had to try it out. We were headed to a Jays game and decided to go here before the game. There menu is gluten free so it was great for me. I had the ceviche to start then the fish tacos, and my spouse had the beef tacos. The ceviche in my opinion was a tad bland but it was still decent, my fish tacos however were to die for. I also got a pina colada and it was just ok. The service was excellent and the restaurant wasnt busy at this time so it wasnt rushed. The menu was priced very reasonably, and the only flaw I would have to say is the space in the restaurant as it is super tiny and compact.
Post the costco round and due to diet restrictions, had to look for a gluten free food. Came across this place, glorious reviews and a craving for taco is how I zeroed down to this. For 2 ppl, we ordered (1) pollo fritto - chicken dish (2) chorizo con papas (3) Tacos de pescada - taco with battered fish and (4) tacos des carnitas - pork based tacos. Yum is the word and really filling, the portions are small but will leave you satiated. Coming back for sure
Go-to place for tacos in Toronto !!
Great food, great option as a person with gluten intolerance, or anyone whos gluten free! Definitely recommend visiting, but stuff is very very slow so be sure not to be in a rush. Dietary restrictions: Everything is gluten free and very tasty!!
Incredible food and drinks with zero worries of any gluten contamination. Already excited to visit again.
Great environment, great for gluten free people the fried chicken with churros were GF. Taste delicious. Their tacos specially carnitas was exceptional the meat is really good. Recommended.
I come at least twice or more whenever in Toronto! Fantastic gluten and dairy free food! My go to spot! Vegetarian options: There are some vegetarian dishes Dietary restrictions: So many gluten and dairy free options!
I have celiac and this was a completely safe and delicious restaurant Wonderful music and atmosphere. The GF fried chicken is to die for.
The fish tacos and smoked carnita were good. They had a nice guava margarita, which my friends thoroughly enjoyed. The apps were alright. Overall pleasant experience.
This restaurant has quickly become one of my favourite spots to visit. The drinks are incredible and the food always hits the spot. I will definitely be bringing my friends and family here this summer.
Bailey was incredible!!! What an amazing service will definitely be back
consistently amazing food and incredible service! would give 10 stars if i could Dietary restrictions: plenty of gluten free and dairy free options
Ive been to this place many many times and always order the same dishes: ceviche and fish tacos. However, this time they tasted different and were below average in flavour. I wouldnt write this review if the taste of the food had remained the same. While I appreciated our servers attention to our table, she kept interrupting our conversation with questions. My friend and I were trying to catch up on years worth of missed things, so I had to ask her for some privacy. I just really hope I can enjoy the original dishes again, as I loved them.
Went for tequila and tacos - Overpriced for what it is (tiny weird bowls for the tequila flight) - charged 2.50$ for hot sauce. Won t be back.
My partner is celiac so it was really nice to not worry about the menu since it s all gluten free. The tacos were absolutely amazing, by far the best we ve ever eaten! Especially the fish and carnitas tacos. Food is well priced and the atmosphere is amazing. Service was quick and personable. Whenever we are back in Toronto we will make a point to go here at least once!! Vegetarian options: veggie options! Poblano tacos were delicious and spicy! Dietary restrictions: Entirely gluten free
Yum! Tried the tasting menu and got so many plates of food (7!) All of them were delicious and served in a timely manner. The atmosphere was awesome too! Great music and quiet street. Will be back!
The server was super friendly! Made the experience much more enjoyable.
Our group really enjoyed the prix fixe/share menu with ceviche, assorted tacos, and other small plates.
We really enjoyed everything. I really like their selection/combination of ingredients. Ceviche was great, my girlfriend loved the Birra poutine. The atmosphere and service was great too. The cocktail list looked really fun. We will be back for the pulpo!
Dietary restrictions: GF!! Food
Food was delicious! Recommend the chips and salsas/guacamole. Our server was extremely nice.
Food quality is not any better than other places that serve classic mexican street food. In fact its a bit below par compared to some other places. Youre paying quite the upcharge just to have your churros come out in fine china. Food
I have lots of good things to say about this place. It is located on a side street off Bathurst so their long patio on the sidewalk is not bombarded with traffic. The front also has a convered patio with a few seats inside the building itself. I have to say, the best seats in the house are at the short sitting bar near the kitchen. You are raised and can see both patios in front of you. I want not interested in a big meal so coming here was perfect - small tasty mexican dishes. We had home made tortilla chips and spicy guac. And a pomegranate soda, also made in house.
Love this spot! Best vegetarian tacos and flavours! I love that tacos actually come full of delicious veggie toppings like avocado, pickled cabbage etc. Definitely will be coming back here!
Ive walked by this little neighbourhood spot lots of times and it is always hopping, so we walked over to try it out. Wow! Best tacos Ive ever had. We tried the tuna tostada, elotes, the fish taco, the chicken/pomeganate/pineapple tostada, the baracoa taco, and of course, the churros. Plus a guava margherita and a pina colada. Absolutely lovely food, great friendly service. Reservations are likely a good idea - theyll be busy. Parking might be a problem, so plan accordingly.
Super busy, told us to wait We were a walk in had my kid and my lady with me they made us wait outside for 30 minutes and gave a table to the next walk in to show up cause they only needed 2 seats. Ridiculous we were there first. Looks like a great place but service was bad and management was horrible thanks for making my family wait 35 minutes for nothing only to give our table away
Very solid resto with amazing food. It s an interesting take on ceviche (very regional) and great barbacoa tacos. The service was legitimately amazing. Will come again.
The place was busy with good atmosphere. We didn t have a reset but they were able to seat us in a few minutes. We had the Tostada de Tings, Taco de Barbacoa plus some apps. Everything was super tasty. The staff were attentive and friendly. We need to go back soon to try more varieties of tacos. Parking: There s street parking around the neighborhood but expect to walk a block depending on how full the street is. Great neighborhood to walk in too.
This place is by far one of the best restaurants in Toronto. The service is kind and informative (you ll be lucky if you get Ernesto as a server!). The food is delicious and happens to all be gluten free. Make sure you book a reservation if you plan to be there for dinner or brunch or you ll be sadden by the wait! Food
We went there for dinner and had a great experience. The food was so good and the service was great. They have a patio in case thats what youre looking for. Will definitely go back.
Delicious
A hidden gem!!! This small restaurant off Bathurst more than doubles its seating with its large patio (closed in and heated during the winter). The food is superb and the drinks refreshing (margs all day!!)! The ceviche is to die for!!! Close seconds are the fish tacos and tuna tostada!!! El Pocho is my favourite Mexican spot in the city by far!!
Love love loveeeeee this place! One of my fav restaurant in the city. The little dish Mezcla De Hongos is to die for! Everything is delicious!
Charlie had great service some would say it was the best service. Food was also spectacular
Excellent food and great service. Would have taken a photo but the food disappeared within seconds!
I cant say enough about how good the food was! Their entire food menu is GF so it was a dream not to stress about what I could and couldnt choose from. We had the Crispy Tortillas and Guacamole, Tacos de Carne Asada and the tacos de carnitas, and then the churros and Flan for dessert. Everything was amazing! Dietary restrictions: Food menu is completly gluten free.
i might regret posting this 5 star review , this place is excellent and make sure to try the ceviche and spicy Margaritas
Loved nachos and chicken tacos!!
Awesome food and great cocktails! Definitely recommend coming here! Thank you guys for the amazing food!!
Amazing authentic food! Absolutely delicious! The cocktails were great and the Bartender was super friendly as well! All in all a must stop, you will not be disappointed!!
PLEASE BE CAREFUL MAKING A RESERVATION WITH THIS RESTAURANT. My friend booked a reservation here for a party of 5+ people on the OPENTABLE APP where it will prompt you to place a deposit of $20/pp. However, when making a reservation on THE APP it DOES NOT show you the terms and conditions for booking a reservation for a party of 5 or larger. They require every guest in your party to choose the 4 course meal which is $50/pp. We explained THE APP did not provide us with this information before we booked; however, the waiting staff very bluntly told us no exceptions. They told us that this has not been an issue with any guests before , but after reviewing Google Reviews after leaving the restaurant, it is evident this occurs frequently. We ended up leaving and deciding to be $20 down pp, as it was a very unwelcoming environment. It is fine to have additional terms and conditions for reservations; however, please make sure this information is available for people BOTH ON THE OPENTABLE WEBSITE AND OPENTABLE APP to read before you are making them pay a $20/pp to eat here, which they cannot get back. I have attached photos of the OpenTable website vs. the OpenTable app to show you the difference of what information is provided BEFORE it requires you to make the deposit.
CAUTION: DONT RESERVE HERE for groups 5+. I booked this place for my friends birthday dinner for 8 of us. Once we arrived, we were informed that we had to have a 4 course meal (50$ + each). We kindly explained that this was not made clear PRIOR to paying the 160$ NON REFUNDABLE deposit and asked if they would make an exception to the policy. The waitress and particularly the manager were both exceptionally rude. The manager was quite hostile to be quite honest and we all felt very uncomfortable and decided to leave. They lost 8 peoples business because of the rigid rule which was NOT properly advertised. Had we reserved over 24 hours in advance then we would have been able to cancel as were not interested in a 4 course set menu and we could have gotten the deposit back. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The restaurant was hot and stuffy and the atmosphere was unwelcoming and hostile. Would not recommend. This restaurant may make good food (according to the reviews), however IMO atmosphere is just as, IF NOT MORE important. Advertise your policy properly... it is really not that hard!!! And be kind - also not hard!!!!
Completely gluten free and so so yummy. The staff is lovely :)
WARNING: MAKING A RESERVATION WITH THIS RESTAURANT. PARTIES OF 5 OR MORE ARE SUBJECTED TO THEIR MENU OF $50 PER PERSON (ALL YOU CAN EAT SUBJEGATED MENU) $20 DEPOSIT PER PERSON, - Rude customer service from waiter - Terrible manager, with no customer service experience - lack of awareness, acknowledgment of their policy conflictions. - Hostile and aggressive service from both our waiter and manager - Terms and conditions are hidden on the app Management was very unprofessional and came off aggressive. Recommendation: Do not visit this place if you are a group of 5 or more. I trust that the food here is amazing and in the future I look forward to trying it, but once there is a reality check with the management and service realizing that this is not a Michelin star restaurant, these policies and terms they have are ludicrous. There were also some concerning things I noted in regards to health and safety of the property. Very poorly insulated, difficulty to breathe in a packed environment.
Absolutely amazing food! This is the type of place that makes me wish that I lived in Toronto, just so I could have it more often. Dietary restrictions: Everything on the menu is gluten free so I wasnt limited to maybe one or two options
My daughter and I were in Toronto and she has celiac. Found this wonderful restaurant on the GF app. The food was out of this world ! Everything was amazing, we couldnt stop talking about it all weekend. Even if you dont have any food allergies, you has to go.
Loved it. Great spicy food. Cool atmosphere, additional outdoor seating in good weather.
Great food, we had a bit of a wait waiting for our food, however management was very kind about it and came with some complementary treats for us to try while we waited. Overall great experience and would recommend to anyone
Hidden gem.
phenomenal evening. giselle was knowledgable, and had great recos, and great timing the pollo fritos and tacos des pescada were insanely good! everything was tasty and priced well; we left no crumb nor drop behind 10/10 will be back for that
Unassuming little spot with authentic Mexican food. Tried a bunch of things on the menu as it was our first time. You get a tiny amount of guacamole for $15. The Steak taco was burnt inside and the octopus appetizer had a strange after taste, would not recommend. However, will probably come back for the fish tacos and the fried chicken which were bomb, so good didn t even have time to snap a pic. Overall, seems like a popular little joint bc the place was packed both inside and patio 10 mins after our reservation time during happy hour on a Friday.
Went to El Poncho with a friend for brunch. Service was amazing. The servers were very kind and friendly. I had the regular margarita and the lychee margarita. Both were delicious and flavours were well balanced. They even offered us a fruit cup due to food taking a bit longer for arrival. Unfortunately the quality of the food really lacked. Portion sizes were disappointing and overall seasoning and presentation of the food was sloppy. I was super excited to try the churros. I understand that theyre a gluten free menu item, but the texture was way off. Great place for cocktails but I would avoid the food
Decent food and location. Excellent service, food can take some time to arrive but expectations were described when ordering (which was excellent)
Food was *exquisite*. Everything was absolutely delicious and the drinks were tasty. Come here if you want your tastebuds to be happy. The atmosphere was cute, cozy, and friendly. We came with a party of 8 and they took care of us. There were some house rules but all-in-all a good place to be.
Its all tasteful (and gluten free)
We came in the afternoon on a Saturday and easily got a table, by the time we left around 5:30 the place was starting to fill up. The outdoor patio was heated and comfortable. The atmosphere was great, love the bar. Everything we had to drink and eat was excellent and clearly prepared with care. The Ceviche was the best Ive ever tried! I cant remember every taco we enjoyed but one was carnitas and another made with mushrooms, both 10/10. Well balanced seasoning and flavours with the right amount of heat, salt, and acidity. We had the churros for dessert which were so delicious, with a great sauce to dip. This restaurant is an excellent choice for gluten free folks and non-gluten free alike. If you are coming to Toronto, even if youre staying 30-40 minutes away by subway like we were, you NEED to come here. It was well worth the journey and the culinary highlight of my trip. Dietary restrictions: Celiac Safe!
The entire menu is gluten free- its real food with high quality and flavor!
Best gluten free experience!! Everything was 100% safe!!!
Flippant service. The food and the drinks are crazy overpriced. Do not recommend. Go to 7 Lives Tacos. The price and the quality do not compare. I will not be coming back
Decent Mexican food. Liked it!
The food is wonderful, especially for those with dietary restrictions! Best GF churros!
Great place. The food is good. Large gluten free choices on the menu
Excellent, attentive service, nice restaurant and outstanding food!
Worst experience ever for my daughter on her 17th birthday. She decided to go there with her 4 best friends and did the reservation in which they asked for 20 dollars in advance to secure the table. All fine, she paid 100 with her savings and then when they arrived on time to have their dinner the waiter explained they are obliged to consume 50 dollars per person plus taxes and tip. If they didn t agree with it they will lose the reservation money. my daughter and her friends just wanted to have a good time together and instead they felt tricked, vulnerable, frustrated and very sad. My daughter and her friends would never know if this place or the food are good or bad. They just know they lost 100 and got nothing but a bad service, sneaky rules and the worst birthday celebration experience. Then people from this place should ask them selves if 100 is good enlighten to get 5 people, their families and friends exponentially spreading the word on how bad you behave.
Slightly on the pricier side, but I pay gladly. Everything I had was great, and the service was prompt and warm. Dietary restrictions: No gluten at all on the menu, super safe for celiac people.
LOVE this place! Delicious tacos, churros, and more. 100% gluten-free so perfect if youre celiac (or if you just want tasty authentic tacos). The service and atmosphere are always great. Dietary restrictions: 100% gluten-free kitchen
Supposedly Mexican restaurant, but if you dont speak English they give you very despotic and racist treatment
Good food, not great service
Fast, attentive service, even on a busy Saturday night, plus a menu of delicious tacos and shareable appetizers. Everything was tasty! Although its small inside, the winterized patio adds seating and also creates a fun nighttime atmosphere.
I went with a friend and we had a great time. It s such a cute spot! Great cocktails (spicy el fuego margarita ). ++++ gluten free! We had chips & guacamole, tostadas, carnitas tacos & aruguate tacos. It was all tasty and good ingredients. I frequent quite a few taco joints and this is now one of my top options. The only drawback for me was that it was insanely loud when it was busiest (as there were so many people and groups). I think that could be fixed with a different acoustic set up/the tempo structure they have to make the balcony an indoor seating area. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free.
Service was great..seating was definitely an issue. I am not a fan of the red lighting seating area. Food was amazing!
Everything in the menu is gluten free and the food is really amazing. Highly recommended! Vegetarian options: They have marked in the menu which things are vegetarian Dietary restrictions: Everything is gluten free
Don t know how this place has a 4.6. Food was well below average and lacked all potential flavour. Chorizo Y Nopales was decent but found it overly salty. Huevos Rancheros had zero flavour :( Also a warning that the queso was not a melted dip rather a few slices of cheese (is this common???) Service was kind enough and the patio is cute but being overly disappointed in the food, I m going to have to keep this at a one star.
The food was outstanding. Fried chicken youd never know was gluten free, tacos that made your jaw drop. The portions arent huge, so youll need to buy a couple things each, but that does let you explore the menu. Its very loud inside, and a very small space, but it is lovely and fun. Dietary restrictions: Everything is gluten free (amazing). They were also easily able to accommodate my dairy allergy.
Cute and warm place to sit and relax ,the food is ok, the drinks are nice, prices are not too bad.
So delicious wow the ceviche and tuna tostada blew me away with flavour
Went on a Tuesday evening. First time visit. May give it another try. We had one major mistake and they attempted to make it right. The place was really busy around 730pm when we arrived but enough room for the two of us. Some tables are way too close though. Way less than arms length away. The cocktails are interesting and quite good. We ordered the fried chicken to start, some tacos and tostadas for main. Thankfully we noticed the chicken was chewy and didnt get too far. The light was dim so we turned on the flashlight on our phone and saw the chicken was not cooked. Tried another piece and it was actually fully pink/raw. The waitress apologized, chef also came to apologize, they remade it crispy for us and took it off the bill and also offered us churros at no cost. Thats why Im giving it 4 stars. They made amends but we were still cautious afterwards. The rest of the food was very good. We may give it another shot at some point.
A little slow with the food, however the taste is amazing. Best tacos and flan.
This place is amazing! All the food was delicious, the mojito mocktail I got was perfect, and our server Olivia was extremely knowledgeable and answered all our questions (which helped with placing our orders for the appetizers and the mains) and she had great recommendations. Five stars all around! Dietary restrictions: This place is totally gluten free and was a stress free dining experience for me (who is celiac)
Food is decent, but at this price point you can definitely do better. Cocktails are not worth ordering. Servers drift around like NPCs, they see you and smile at you, but dont realize you need service, you even have to ask for a menu after sitting there for a while.
Such a fantastic place in the neighborhood! Love the drinks and food. Cant go wrong tbh.
Intimate dining room but it was really sunny out so we sat on the enclosed patio in the sun. Food was fantastic. Perfectly seasoned and balanced. Tried barbacoa, poblano and carnitas tacos, the octopus portion was small imo for the price but was still worth ordering. Great options from Burdock for beers - didn t get cocktails because I was driving but they all sounded delicious (former bartender).
A wonder. Should be better known!
Such good food. Servers were amazing too. They had a huge variety of cocktails as well. Loved the experience. 10/10 recommended
The place is great, nice music and overall environment. Warm, clean, the server was very polite and friendly. I liked the food, it was beautifully made and taste amazing (just a bit spice for me, but I dont have a gallbladder, so Im biased). Definitely recommended!
We had the friendliest server, Rosie, who had amazing recommendations. The food was phenomenal. The four of us shared the chips, guac, and salsa, the street corn, and the chicken & habanero appy. We had the pork tacos, the barbacoa tacos, and the carne asada tacos. The barbacoa, in my opinion, was the best! We topped off our meal with the salted caramel brownie & churros. Omg. Omg. Omg. That brownie was unreal. Although the exterior of the building seems a bit .well, you know . But holy smokes. The food. The service. The whole vibe. Incredible. The fact that the ENTIRE FOOD MENU is gluten free (the only thing with gluten is the beer, and they have specific glasses to serve them in so no cross-contamination occurs) I m so impressed. We re so so so grateful to have such a delectable place to eat and not have to pray we find the GF sign beside the dish, as one of us is celiac. Dietary restrictions: Entire food menu is gluten free
The outside may not be overly inviting, but the food, staff, drinks, dessert, and atmosphere are a 5/5. As a celiac, this restaurant ticked all the boxes for a delicious meal and the GF churros and brownie were delicious. Our table tried a variety of menu items as it was a first time at the restaurant for us. A must try and we will be back on our next visit. A big shout out to our super sweet server Rosie! Thank you for the recommendations!
Amazing place, best tacos and gluten free churros. Staff was super accommodating when I couldn t book online and I went in person and they immediately helped me even though it was a busy Saturday night.
I really like this place, as a celiac it s all gluten free so it s a stress free experience. The food was super good, I went twice in one week. Staff is great and very knowledgeable with good recommendations, if you come on the weekend make a reso cause this place is popular! Dietary restrictions: Very good and aware of allergies even asks if there is any allergies at the table. Very good service here
Pros: Good atmosphere, attentive service and fairly busy on a weekend night (but not too busy). The atmosphere makes this place a decent date spot to grab a cocktail or two. Cons: food portions are too small and overpriced. We ended up spending over $100 on food (before tip) for two people and left hungry. Also, the food isnt really authentic Mexican, its more like La Carnita style Mexican inspired food. I wouldnt come back here for the food.
We had an amazing experience. Felt like we were in Mexico. Authentic food, atmosphere n great service.
I m always coming here having a blessed time
Wonderful prices, portions, service and most importantly taste. The hot chocolate is to die for! and can t pass up the elotes when you re here, tacos were amazing and flavourful as well. Horchata was also very refreshing and well spiced.
No kidding - that had to be the BEST Mexican I have EVER eaten in Toronto! The dishes all tasted so fresh & the flavours were so rich and prefectly balanced. Service was fast and our server Rosie was so joyful and well-informed & a perfect host, something that is becoming difficult to find in foodservice these days. Comfortable & friendly atmosphere - very cosy. A must-visit!, and make sure you orxer the flaming spicy Margherita mmmmmmmm!
The food was fantastic, very flavourful! Ernesto was really friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend!
it was freaking delicious. our server was so kind. the only problem i had was the fact that the restaurant wasnt packed with people. i need everyone to start eating there. the best food i ve had in toronto. hands down.
Best Mexican food I have ever had in Toronto--great atmosphere as well. Highly recommend
Get multiple dishes! Good food and service!
My husband and I have been going to this restaurant for quite some time. We really loved it but lately each time we ve gone the quality has gone down and the prices have gone up. A bottle of water is $8 and they sneakily bring that instead of offering tap water. The portions used to be much larger and more flavourful. Tacos are very small, usually 12-13 for two very small tacos. It kind of feels like a rip off at this point. For the prices and mediocre service we expected more food and flavour! It s really lacking now. Very disappointed
Don t get me wrong this is a good place for good food but I m posting this review as a protest to their absolutely stupid mandatory fixed price policy for parties of 5 or more. In case you were wondering what that is if you have five or more peeps they mandate what you have to have at $48 pp plus tax and a 20% autograt. That is just plain douchey. So now if I want to control what I eat I have to strip off a family member. I get it, the resto industry can be challenging but you also don t have to be this extreme - 5 is not a lot of people. Please change this policy and I will be back. Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free
The entire menu is gf, including the desert churros! Everything is delicious by any standard (not just for gf). I really loved my fish tacos and the chips and salsas were great. Its a small location so make a reservation if you can. Highly recommended. Dietary restrictions: Great gf options!
4.0/5 Simple and authentic. We tried the Ceviche and Tacos De Carnitas. The Ceviche was fresh and tangy and the avocado and chips complemented this very well. The tacos were nothing exceptional but good. Our favourite was the Churros we ordered in the end. They were hot and very tasty. A nice neighbourhood restaurant if youre in the area. The outside seating area is heated and was quite pleasant during lunch.
Fully gluten free kitchen!
The food was absolutely delicious. The service was great, the waiter was very friendly. We also tried the dessert and it caused me to go on a tirade about the virtues of worldly pleasures. Simply amazing.
Drink selection (Cocktails, beer, non-alcoholic) and appetizers were very unique. The tacos are very classic and each order comes with two tacos. Our favourite was the fish tacos, ceviche appetizer, street corn, and fried chicken. We did not like the carne asada beef tacos at all, do not recommend. The beef had a very overwhelmingly bitter and charred/burned taste that ruined the dish The price is a bit more than expected for classic Mexican dishes but was worth it for the tasty appetizer and cocktails.
Follow @bredgyeats for more food posts! Elotes - Couldnt get enough of these smoky, charred elotes with a natural sweet taste, thats coated in a thin layer of tangy mayo, fresh coriander, cheese and a slight sprinkling of spice and is a wonderful appetizer that primed my appetite nicely for the following tacos. Carnitas Tacos - Resting on a freshly toasted corn tortilla, is shredded pork thats tender and supersaturated in its own juices, and theres no way youre eating this cleanly. The coriander, pickled onions and lime serves to elevate the meat even more by adding a freshness and acidity to cut into the fat. I was very tempted to order another pair.
This is my partner and I s favourite restaurant. The food is always amazing and reasonably priced. The service from Rose that we ve had on multiple occasions is always great. Our only complaint is that there are too many tables in such a small space. It s obvious that it s hard for the staff and customers to get around comfortably. We still find it worth it despite this though!
Really great atmosphere for a date or hangout with friends. Portion sizes for ceviche were much bigger than anticipated and the drinks were creative. Vegetarian options: There are options.
I love a good street style taco, and these were not it. More of a fancy taco, and everything sounded great. I got an order of fish tacos to eat there with friends, and carnita tacos to go, and was glad to have a bottle of water nearby. The fish tacos were great- light and crispy, but I was unpleasantly surprised by the carnitas I brought home. They were so spicy, it was hard to tell what kind of meat I was eating. I wish their food did not come pre-seasoned as I much prefer to add salsa as I need or want it. As someone with celiac, its nice to have a place that has a completely safe menu, but if you dont enjoy food that leaves a lingering burn and actually want to taste it, be sure to chat with your server when you place your order. If it werent for the celiac-safe element and the gf churros, I probably would not go back. Dietary restrictions: Celiac safe
Love this neighborhood gem. Great food, great cocktails (and coffee), great service.
Had fish tacos and ceviche, but it was alright. Nothing that great. Place was getting too hot !! We mentioned it to the waitress but they didn t solve the issue. This place has HALAL food
Great food. Great staff! James and Cesar are great.
Oh my gosh this place is AMAZING! If you are cealics you can eat here stress free as the whole menu is GF. And WHAT a menu it is. Every taco we had was a new explosion of incredible flavours. If I had to pick the battered fish and carnitas were the best. And to finish it off the churros!!!! Oh my GOSH! Could not tell they were GF. I cannot stress enough how extremely tasty everything here is. I dont get to eat out a lot so wow. Keep doing what youre doing guys!!!
Parking: Best place to have fun Food
I really liked it, the fish tacos are incredible, the drinks are very good, the place, atmosphere and decoration made me feel like I was really in a bar in Mexico and the guy who served me is really cool
An entirely gluten free menu AND it s all delicious?! Pinch me. Truly enjoyed everything we had at El Pocho, and loved the vibe on the patio. The service was great, no complaints! Definitely worth a try! Dietary restrictions: Entire menu is gluten free!
Great food and cocktail selection
Perfect place, very nice bear and good
Everything we ordered was amazing. Service could be better
Fantastic food! Great service. Gluten Free eats are hard to find they didnt disappoint.
I havent been out to eat in about half a year since I became sensitive to gluten. This restaurant was the best dining experience Ive ever had and was so fulfilling. Every dish is so flavourful and unique. The staff are so friendly I had no reason to feel embarrassed getting my fingers coated in chipotle aioli. Give them all your money, you wont regret it. Dietary restrictions: Entire restaurant is gluten free besides the beer!
I m celiac and just being able to go to a restaurant was a treat. I was a bit hesitant at first, but the wonderful server reassured me that they serve a large celiac community in Toronto. I was almost in tears The service was 6/5 The atmosphere was nice warm and cozy 5/5 We ordered the following and reviews of each beside them: Apps: - TORTILLAS Y SALSA (4/5): chips were hot, crunchy and just right. The three salsas were small which was fine because we ordered a lot but outside of the gauc the other two felt (verde and picante) are more like topping sauces vs eating them with chips. - POLLO FRITO (5/5): juicy dark meat, deep fried goodness. Not sure if they have this but, this chicken in a taco would be amazing. - TOSTADA DE ATUN (6/5): loved this. Flavour was amazing, crunch was great. I will get 5 of these next time - ELOTES (5/5): these were done just right Tacos/tostadas: - TACOS DE PESCADO (3/5): I really wanted to love this. The fish and batter was fluffy and crispy(especially since it wasn t flour based), but I m sorry to say that outside of the cabbage slaw, the fish itself didn t have much taste. - CARNITAS (3/5): the meat was a bit dry and again lacked a bit of flavour. You could get the Smokey notes but nothing past the cilantro and pickled onions - TACOS DE BARBACOA (3/5): this one was apparently on the spicier side and again lacked flavour. Tortilla was a bit soggy - CARNE ASADA + side of queso (3/5): the meat sometimes felt chewy and overly charred. Again lacked a bit of flavour. It was really spicy at points too. - TOSTADA DE TINGA (no rating): we ordered this but we re too full to try it. Looked really beautiful though with the pomegranate topping. - Churro (5/5): doesn t taste like the real thing but it s definitely worth every yummy bite. Overall the appetizer were fantastic and as someone who hasn t been able to enjoy deep fried foods or restaurants, it was really nice to have the options. Unfortunately the tacos fell a little short in flavour across the board, with them either having no real flavour or a tad bit spicy. They also didn t come with any sauces, so we used the sauces from the trio dip we ordered. I definitely will be going back but likely ordering more apps than actual tacos.
Amazing! unforgettable sensory experience. Considering becoming a Pocho meself ;) god bless
We arrived at 9:50pm and the restaurant closes at 11pm. The manager said last order is 10:15pm and they won t take orders after that, which is fair. All though we enjoyed our food, the customer service was lacking. The manager said that they could not split the bill among our party and one person would have to pay. On top of this, they also included a mandatory gratuity when the bill was handed over to us. I m not sure why a mandatory gratuity is included when they couldn t even do a basic task of splitting our bill.
Every ingredient was so fresh, loved the house made chips and tortillas. The ceviche and tacos were top notch. Cant wait to try more. Food : 5/5
We popped by this place after a nightmare at another restaurant and what an amazingly pleasant surprised! We were visiting close to close but they were very accommodating and welcoming. Ernesto and Rosalinda were both so friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Ernesto made great drinks (that arrived in fire ) and provided friendly service and remembered our drink preferences and allergies. Rosalinda was patient, kind, and friendly when serving us. We never felt rushed during the visit though they were closing soon. The food was also amazing, some of the best Mexican food we ve had, and we found after that it was all gluten free, so the food is great! Highly recommend a visit and be sure to try a passion fruit drink!
Great food, well priced and friendly staff
Hidden gem! Walked into this place because I was in the area and wanted tacos. Food was top notch and the service was great. Ill be going back for sure!
A fantastic spot for tacos. Bonus points for everything being gluten free! Standouts for me were the chips and guac, elotes, and the churros. I look forward to coming back to make my way through the rest of the menu!!
Food was great and portions allowed for us to try multiple dishes. Service started off rocky with the first waitress who took a while to serve or follow up with a few tables, causing some patrons to leave, however, the two other waitress were so amazing with recommendations and a more cheerful attitude.
absolutely amazing food and service. theyve got a glass of delicious red wine that paired incredibly well with the tacos we ordered. also the best churros ive had in Toronto. nice warm covered patio seating and a small indoor seating area. our server was very nice too. glad i live in the neighborhood, im definitely going to be back!
Delicious food and quick service! Best michelada and ceviche Ive had in the city so far.
My experience at the restaurant was disappointing. The $15 sangria glass was mostly filled with ice, leaving me with a minimal amount of drink. Our server, Nick, was distant and inattentive, requiring us to consistently call him for orders and water refills. To our surprise, Nick finished his shift without informing us, leaving us waiting. While the food was quite enjoyable, the overall experience was marred by the service and the overabundance of ice in the pricey sangria.
DO NOT CELEBRATE HERE. We were told we need to leave as there is another reservation for our table in 5 mins. It was 7.55pm on a Friday night and we were celebrating an event and planned to stay at least till 10 pm. We were a party of 7, we spent there 2 hours and 55 mins with a bill of ~$1,300. They have a mandatory menu for a party of 5 and more, the plates for the party were to share, so we got a very minimalistic amount of food for this money. The cocktails shouldnt really be called cocktails in this establishment. We had 28 shots of tequila, which, as I think now, was also deluted with water. Thats all you need to know about this place.
Great spot, drinks are great and menu is super approachable!
