Fonda Lola Mexican Bistro in Toronto

We went here over the weekend and it was fantastic. the tacos were 10/10 and the salsa platter we got was also amazing. i m shocked this place doesn t have a better rating! i would recommend!

The food was absolutely delish! Service was a tad slow given there wasn t too many people in, however we would definitely go back for the quesadillas.

Arturo made the best mezcalitas and was so warm and friendly. We will definitely be back just to sit at the bar and chat with him!

We know Arturo from La Clendestina in the Junction and we followed him when he moved to Fonda Lola - which is far from us - because hes that good. Wonderfully warm, genuinely loves his customers, brilliant bartender. Arturo really makes this place - highly recommended.

Nice little patio but terrible service. There are only 8 tables on the patio but you might as well be invisible. Never did get my second Corona that I ordered.

If it wasn t for the price I would have given this a 5 star. But when you order guacamole and chips and three sirloin tacos and the food bill is over 40 bucks it s kinda crazy. The sirloin tacos and guacamole were very good though and the restaurant super cool. Service was good but not sure if I ll return based on the prices. Equally good Mexican available cheaper at other places

Food was disappointing, took forever to get our food and when it came it was cold and didn t taste very fresh.

2022: Amazing atmosphere, food and service! The patio is so pretty - Will definitely be coming back soon to try out the entire menu :) the hibiscus margaritas were to die for! 2024 Edit: went back two years after and unfortunately it seems like the service went downhill my friend and I were very excited to revisit the place we had such a great time at originally. Unfortunately the service was really bad, they took forever to seat us despite having a reservation. It was also her birthday and I made a note of it and it was never once mentioned by the waiter or the hosts. Once we got our seat we had to waive down a waiter after 20 minutes because our table and another next to ours never even got welcomed or got service. Wrong drink and food orders were brought to us three times and when we asked for the right order the waiter tried to gaslight us into thinking we made a mistake. Out of politeness we kept the wrong order.. Tacos were really dry and almost not edible. 3 tacos and a drink for 55$ is a joke to be honest. Really a shame because we were looking forward to coming back will not be coming back again.

I hosted my 30th birthday at Fonda Lola this past weekend. The staff was so amazing and communicative in helping me plan the event. The food, drinks, music and ambience made my experience extremely memorable. Special shout out to Valeria and her amazing staff that made the night go off without a hitch. Would definitely recommend this spot for your next venue.

Margaritas are amazing, but tacos are expensive and the menu is very limited.

The patio is lovely and the drinks are very good. We ordered Skinny Spicy margarita, and it was perfect. Sirloin taco is delicious.

$90 + tip for 2 drinks and 6 very average tasting small tacos. We had the fish and the cauliflower tacos. Fish was the better of the two but still didn t taste as fresh as it could have. Cauliflower was completely flavourless.

The food looked good but it was so bland the server was kinda tuned out for the night.

which seemed to me like Mexican. nice place, a little tight, but nice atmosphere. Delicious food, I ordered a cochinita pibil salad bowl. It was not something classic from Mexico, but a very good interpretation with good flavor and very complete. The fresh hibiscus water tasted good, not too sweet and not too bittersweet. the price was a little high, my only criticism.

Today I took a journey to the Fonda Lola Bistro + was absolutely blown away by the experience. I attended for Winterlicious + when I arrived I was kindly greeted by the hostess/server. She immediately guided me to a table in the cozy back part of the restaurant + gave me a chance to get settled in. Within a few minutes I ordered my first drink, the Classic Mojito. The drink was to perfection + Ive drank a lot of mojitos in my life. The music in the background was romantic, easy-going + at the right volume, not too loud + not too quiet. After a few minutes the first dish arrived, the appetizer, Creamy Bean Soup. It may not have looked too appealing but it had a delicious flavor. You can see the ingredients in the menu in my photos. I would love to make that personally as its a great soup to eat during the cold seasons. Next up, the main meal, the Baja Fish Tacos. As you can see they plated it beautifully, a work of ART. The fish was light + not overly oily at all. There were a myriad of flavors that blended well together so definitely would be open to eating them again. Before dessert arrived I plunged back into another mojito. Yes, another one but this time the Strawberry Mojito. Once again, was not disappointed in the least. The bartender is a magician with the drinks. Last, the dessert I chose was Churros with a cream + a chocolate dipping sauce of sorts. Another gem of a dish. I would definitely give this place a Rating for Overall Experience. If youd like to experience some delicious food, a cozy atmosphere, a feeling of travel I highly recommend coming here. Cheers!

Service as horrible the hot is not hot at alll!!!! They turned the lights to signal for guest to get of the restaurant around 9 pm

The food here is nothing to be desired flavourless food. Hot sauce should be labeled sweet sauce and cold tacos. All the plates and cups were chipped. Told them I have a dairy allergy and my taco salad was filled with cheese at the bottom. The worst part was the manager turned on all the lights and turned off the music. Telling us we had to leave as they have a private party coming in 15 minutes. Nobody had mentioned to us when we arrived or when we booked here. Our sever didn t offer to clear the table or dessert. Took our drinks off the table before they were finished. Three other tables still had food and drinks full!! I can t believe this is how they run a restaurant. I seriously think this is the top worst restaurant I have ever eaten at.

Great service and amazing food! So despite what recent reviews have said, we had amazing quick service and the tacos were fantastic! The Baja fish and the top sirloin tacos are some of the best Ive had, and I have had some great tacos. The atmosphere is loud but the service is very good and very fast. Tacos could use some more flavour. Found the Baja fish to be a really small portion of fish. Fun drinks, a little pricey. I love being able to mix and match tacos and here you had to get 3 of the same. With that said, go with friends to mix and match. Good service though.

Drinks are pretty good! But the food is flavourless and really bad. We got the queso and it felt like they took mozzarella and just melted it in a skillet, added 0 spices which is weird for a Mexican restaurant. We couldn t even finish it, so we decided not to order any food because of how bad the queso was service was also terrible. Our waiter just forgot about us half way through so we had to get another waiter to get our second round of drinks and settle up.

Great tasting food and dining experience. My only recommendation is doubling the soft taco shells to avoid them from disintegrating!

Went for a date night here. Shrimp tacos were good but as authentic, the flavour was underwhelming but the salsas helped uplift it. Chicken Enchiladas were really good, the mole sauce was great but my girlfriend didnt like it due to the chocolate taste.

I came here for my birthday in January and they were so accommodating right from the start! The team was super responsive in helping me set up a reservation which I was really grateful for. Our server was so attentive and kind, and did a fantastic job at managing our table of 12 (I think his name was Aditya). The food was so tasty and fresh, the drinks were beautiful, and the ambience was definitely a vibe. I honestly had such an outstanding experience, thank you for making my birthday so special! I can t wait to come back to try more items off the menu :) Dietary restrictions: Gluten friendly!!

Very disappointing. Got the special of the day, the grilled octopus taco. After waiting about an hour, the octopus was served and was like rubber , could not be chewed!

Best tacos ever!

We went in for bday dinner, the 12 ppl on the table not one raved about the food. Horrible food, slow service and really a thumbs down experience overall. I came home feeling so not satisfied.

Favorite Mexican restaurant in town! The food is authentic and amazing and the vibe is just perfect for either a night out with your friends or going on a date! You can not miss the queso fundido and the mezcal margarita! As a pro tip, when possible ask for a spot on their back patio, a true hidden gem. Came here for a late lunch around 4pm on a Sunday. My friend and I were the only ones in the restaurant. We ordered the guacamole, fish and shrimp tacos. Service was quick and the food came out at a good time. I was surprised that the tacos did not come with a piece of lime. Kind of disappointed in the hot sauce to be honest. I asked for a hot sauce and the server directed me to the salsa section of the menu which was $2.50 each. She mentioned the Chile de arbol was the hottest one they had in house. It was not even close to being a hot sauce, in my opinion. That s the main reason for the 3 star rating, maybe have some bottled hot sauces if you can t provide one. Parking: Green P street parking. Kid-friendliness: No kids menu and I didn t see high chairs

Such a great mexican restaurant! The interior is super cute and cozy and the food is amazing. We got a few different drinks (the lola margarita, spicy marg and the classic mojito) and the spicy margarita was probably the best I ve ever had. The food was delicious and filling. I will definitely be back in the warmer months to check out the back patio!

I guess a few months ago this place seemed to be pretty good judging by the reviews but having recently gone last week I can say it was absolutely mid shrimp tacos had barely any taste. We got drinks before our food and once the food arrived not a single waiter came by to ask if we needed a refill. The only thing going for it was the guac which wasnt bad tbh but the salsa looked more like a Rose pasta sauce than salsa and all 3 of them were lacking flavour and heat even the one the waiter said was spicy. Also if you order the chips and guac for $20 be prepared to only get about 10 chips. Will not be going here again.

Delicious Mexican! We had the queso fundido, suizas enchiladas, and chorizo quesadilla. All really good. Will be back to try the tortilla soup.

I came for Valentines Day with my partner. When we got there our only option was a fixed special Valentines Day menu, which is fine. The price was higher than I expected it, which is also fine considering I hadnt checked them in advance and it was my first time. Turns out on regular days their regular menu is half the price compared to those fixed menus. Also, for the premium we paid, I was expecting bigger portions and fresher ingredients. Even though we were two people paying twice for the fixed price, they only served us one dessert which was a small Petit gateau with a handful number of fruit slices and two small raspberries. Finally, there was no option lower than 18% gratuity. Not a terrible experience, but definitely not worth paying $65 per person (no drinks). My tip is: if theres a fixed menu, not worth the hype.

Best fish tacos in town. Good Mexican food but it s little bland. You have to always ask for different sauces with tacos to spice them up. Giving 5 stars for their fish taco s. Can t find better fish tacos anywhere else.

I booked Fonda Lola for my 30th birthday and we had the most incredible night! We had the whole restaurant to ourselves for a very reasonable price. Rafael and his whole team went above and beyond in helping coordinate details for the event, they were extremely responsive and accommodating and their service and setup that night was exceptional. The staff/venue is clearly well seasoned in hosting events. The food and drinks were amazing too! Will definitely be hosting events here in the future and highly recommend!

Rented out the bar for my birthday and cannot recommend Fonda Lola enough! I had around 30-40 people at my event and the space was perfect to hold that amount. Communication and overall service was stellar.

We had so much fun celebrating our best friend s bachelorette! The staff were all so welcoming, and went above and beyond to make the night special. On top of that, the food and drinks were delicious!

There s a super cute hidden patio in the back of the bistro. I highly recommend the shrimp tacos - they were super delicious and you can never go wrong with a spicy margarita!

Maybe its an unpopular opinion but I had a terrible experience at Fonda lola on a Friday Eve. The place was busyish, they had 2-3 tables empty inside and patio tables were all dripping because of rain earlier in the eve. When we asked to be seated they said all the indoor tables are reserved. Soon 2 more tables got empty and we were asked to take the dirty table by the door. The table was right next to another table and it was too noisy and when we asked to switch to another table, they straightaway said no and said that they are being held for people in the patio in case it rains. We were left disappointed by the staff and that we did not even get to try the food.

Oh this was a great find! Two if us went for lunch on a Friday afternoon, we didnt have reservations but luckily they had a table for us on the back patio. We shared a ceviche appetizer, I had the beef alambra and my partner has the beef burrito bowl. Neither of us were disappointed! The beef was tender and flavourful, my beef in a cast iron skillet had a healthy serving of peppers, onions and cheese. Our server (so sorry I cannot remember his name and dont want to guess and get it wrong!) offered us a hot sauce, mild, hot or intense. We went with intense and again werent disappointed! This is a great place for a very flavourful meal, but make reservations!

I ordered the chicken poblano tacos and it was DELICIOUS! However, that was a short lived experience. The food is flavourful but lacking on the portions. Great vibe and a spot I will visit again, not when Im hungry though.

Worst tacos of my life. The soft shell tacos were so soggy that I had to use my knife and fork to eat it. When I complained to the server he argued with me saying the tacos are suppose to be this soggy and drenched in oil and this is how they cook in Mexico. I have been to Mexico but never ate a taco this bad . My picture don t lie.

Very good mole sauce on enchiladas. Delightful smoked beer (Negra Modelo with flavours) served with flowers in a skull vodka bottle! However, service was poor. They took ages to bring menus and never mentioned Taco Tuesday discount which is $14 instead of $20 for 3 tacos. Margarita was expensive $16.50 but mediocre. Table nearby not cleaned after customers departed. Our plates were also not cleared by the time we left. Downstairs washroom area sink is overflowing and leaking below. Dishes are all chipped.

This place is nothing but amazing. From the food, to the atmosphere, to the service, Fonda Lola has it all. Celebrated my girlfriend s birthday there and the team went above and beyond to make it a memorable day. If you want to try authentic and delicious mexican food, drink great coktails and just enjoy a night out this place will not disapoint you.

Great looking place on Queens, we sat at the patio. Service was prompt, and friendly! The drinks were great. I felt the food was a bit too dry, I had the fish tacos and it was not as juicy as can be. The nachos came with cheese that was pretty hard and set as well. I missed taking photos of the patio, but the patio is great!

Summerlicious @ $45, we were seated at the back patio which is pretty but theres no airflow so it was very stuffy. The table has a bottle of water, but no ice until we asked. Horcharta is great, as were the apps - Quesdo Fundido and Mango Ceviche. Tofu Tacos were extremely wet and would fall apart as soon as they were lifted up. Churros (one Churro cut in two) were extremely hard (stale? over cooked?), had no filling, and a tiny bit of chocolate drizzle on the plate.

The worst service I have ever gotten from any place ever. Our server didnt want to seat us originally cause he was worried it would rain and people would want to come in the restaurant. Indoors was empty. The then messed up our orders. Then after we got our food we saw our server jump on a scooter and run off. We were left for an hour without a single person checking on our table. We could have left and no one would have noticed. Food was good though

Was here on Friday night. The restaurant temperature was stifling and the service was extremely slow. The server wasnt rude but just very notchalant. I ordered churizo tacos which came out looking like soup. Like, you couldnt pick them up because they immediately fell apart, and I had to eat them with a fork and knife. They were lukewarm and there was very little flavour. I felt fine that night but woke up to symptoms of food poisoning the next day with severe vomiting and diarrhea. Its been two days now, and Im still on the couch eating soup and barely keeping anything down.

Cute patio for summer. The vegetarian tacos were tasty. The add-on sauces were spicy and nice.

Unfortunately, the only good thing about this restaurant was the cute patio in the back. I went for take out at this place (probably my first mistake). We got salad bowls , the salad bowl consisted of a few pieces of spinach, a tiny portion of rice, bean paste and pico. I got the steak bowl , the steak piece was small, I also asked for guac, which I paid for and never received. My friend got a baja bowl with guac (which she also never received), this mostly consisted of packaged shredded cheese and some spinach. The service was nice but the portions and quality of food was horrible. I wish I took a picture. It looked like a 2 year old made these salads. On top of this, the salads were $20. I hope other things on the menu are better but unfortunately this was horrible.

Had a reservation for a party of 5. requested patio seating as the restaurant was empty when i got there. We were told only inside for large parties. Drinks are overpriced for the quality. Menu wasnt explained fully for us as it was our first time trying Mexican cuisine. Lastly, our bills were mixed up and the waitress had to stand at our table confirming who ordered what because it seems notes were not taken. Guac is 10/10 though that was the only positive

Guacamole and chips were amazing, so was the Baja fish taco. Give cochinita taco, its a different take on this. But the best part was the tamarind margarita.... Really good cocktails overall. Service was kinda slow so be prepared to wait a little longer

It s a cute restaurant with not a lot of seating, make sure to get reservation ahead of time. Came here for summerlicious. Nice food and interesting drinks, the smoked drinks is fancy and cool. Tacos are good, not the best I have had, but still tasty. Churros were actually really good!

Beautiful back patio. Sirloin Tacos and margarita were amazing. churros bites were awful do not get them. They were accommodating and made a new order but they were still just as bad. Service was awkward. They put as at a table too close to other people and didn t combine our tables when there were still empty tables available.

3.5/10 Food Guacamole was underwhelming. Just tasted like mashed avocado with lime; however the pineapple salsa was great. Enchiladas were good (i got the green enchiladas suisse style) however you could definitely tell the Mexican rice was stale, and in top of that they were tasteless. Big criticism is that they need to offer spice levels or re-label items eith the word spicy. My mom got the spicy shrimp and there was no spicy in the shrimp...) The service needs a lot of work but I think this is due to lack of staffing so its not the servers fault. Would I go back? Not unless I want to grab a jar of the salsa.

Cocktails were delicious. Food was probably the worst Mexican food Ive ever had. Nothing was special and everything we had was pretty unimpressive. Service and atmosphere was nice - loved the nice back patio but definitely wouldnt recommend for food.

I was at the restaurant with a friend and had the Baja fish tacos which was so good. The service was also top notch especially from one of the staff addy I guess. Keep up the good job.

Favorite Mexican restaurant in Toronto. Love everything about this place

Here is why I would never go to this place again. I made a reservation online for 5 for Sunday, August 20th at 6:45 pm. At around 6 pm I tried changing the reservation to 7:15 pm online as we were getting delayed but it kept sending me back an error message. I called the restaurant multiple times to tell them we are running late but there was no answer. We reached at 7:15 and met this incredibly rude server/hostess. Now I understand when someone is having a hard day and we generally give them a pass. But this was beyond repair and she was extremely condescending and rude. When I explained to her our situation and apologized for being late she questioned our intent of honoring our reservation. When a woman from my party (who was pregnant by the way) tried to explain why we were late she literally schooled her and told her we dont accept latecomers almost bringing her to tears. Tables inside were empty so she reluctantly gave us a table. But then she goes on with her rudeness and tells us that we will need to leave in an hour so order up fast as the restaurant is closing. That was the last straw. We walked out. Thank you very much for treating us so horribly and making a pregnant woman upset. You have lost our business. Not coming back again

Overrated. Good cocktails but bad service and long wait times for very simple drinks. Overall while the food was ok, everything else was very disappointing.

Impeccable food, friendly service, and a wonderful atmosphere! Loved the shrimp tacos and the margaritas were delicious! Definitely one of the best restaurants in Toronto! Will 100% be returning!

Went there Saturday Sept 9th at 11:58am. The door was open so I tried to go in and worker came to the door. I asked if theyre open and she said theyll open in 10minutes. My fiance and I was waiting few minutes went to a shop next door to kill and came back with our friends. Four of us were right outside the door until 12:15pm. I went to check again as it was way past 10minutes, and this time they LOCKED the door. There was a worker inside and she just looked at us and didnt say anything. We ended up going somewhere else as we were starving. This was my first attempt there and Im not going there ever again. I wish I can give 0 star if possible. What kind of customer service is this?? You dont open on time or let people in way past your open hours.

Great food, even better drinks! Our go to order is the top sirloin tacos - the sauce and the sirloin is cooked perfectly, and their tortilla is fresh. We also ordered the ceviche and the chips were so crisp, and the ceviche itself is citrusy! Their tamarind margaritas were so good! Shoutout to Maria for being a great server as well!

I think they unloaded a whole brick of cheese on the tacos. Okay but way too much cheese and tough to get to when it cooled a bit. I shouldn t need a knife to cut into my tacos. Server seemed to abandon us in favour of talking to his buddies at another table but another sheepishly filled in enough for us to pay our bill. Good but I don t think I will be returning.

We had made a reservation for 8:15 PM, we preferred to sit inside rather then on the patio, we were told we could be seated where we wanted. However, there was only one clean table available, so we took it. We were also told that the kitchen and bar would be closing soon and requested to place our order all at once. Unfortunately, all our dishes arrived at the same time, and we had to wait a while for cutlery to be brought to our table. Regrettably, the tacos were not tasty, and we ended up having a cold meal. We were dissatisfied with both the food quality and the service. First and last experience here.

Nothing to do with the restaurant but if you re allergic to bees like me don t recommend. The food looked good though. Just my allergies stopped me from eating here nobody seemed to care that I was attacked by two bees . Never again

To preface, we were so excited to try this restaurant after watching Instagram posts so we actually travelled all the way from Hamilton to eat here. We would never come back and are very disappointed with our experience. After receiving our table via reservation verification, we browsed the menu over complimentary tap water. We ordered 2 cocktails and 1 appetizer taco, before we chose & ordered our main entree tacos. We received our cocktails which were delicious and then after 15 minutes we received the dehydrated watermelon taco. The tacos were fine, nothing to write home about or recommend. The staff came and took away our drinks and asked if we wanted another, we declined. They then came and took our appetizer plate away. We thought the food would be coming moments after but unfortunately, after waiting 40 minutes, we heard the wait staff tell another walk in customer that their kitchen is closed and they are no longer serving food. We panicked and call our server over to ENSURE that our food was still coming. Unfortunately, they had FORGOT about our main entree order Here s a timeline to better illustrate our experience. -We arrived at 9:46pm for our 9:45pm reservation -We ordered our first taco and cocktails by 9:52pm - we got the cocktails 10:02pm -we ordered our main tacos at 10:05pm. -we got the first app tacos at 10:17pm -we heard them say they weren t serving food at 10:50pm to another walk in customer -we asked our server about our entree taco order which is when she fully admitted that it was her fault. Being so close to 11pm and still starving, we were very concerned that we were not going to get a meal that night. After the server acknowledging the forgotten taco, she said she would take it off the bill. We told her that you are absolutely removing the tacos that we DID NOT eat was the bare minimum she would do. We emphasized the long wait just to be disappointed and the fact that we are probably not able to get dinner at any restaurant anymore. She asked what we would like to pay for, and we said nothing. She then proceeded to guilt us that she would have to personally cover our bill. I told her she needs to talk to her manager. She went to her manager and explained the situation. He came to our table super happy with a massive smile and just said your bill is taken care of, have a good night. It would also be bare minimum for him to at least apologize for ruining our Toronto visit and leaving us option-less for dinner. Not only did we spend almost 2 hours to just get 1 appetizer taco and 2 drinks, but we didn t even get dinner.

My husband and I came here for tacos and we were so pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food was, and also how quaint and sweet the atmosphere is! The staff are so lovely, they really explain the ingredients, and give good input to the meal. I loved the decor with the eclectic Latin touches, and sugar skulls. I definitely would come back and recommend!

This spot offers tasty tacos and a charming ambiance. Definitely worth a visit when in the area, plus they have a lovely patio.

The vegetarian taco is the best!!

I cant really say enough good things about Fonda Lola! The servers were friendly and attentive. We had a chocolate old fashioned and a margarita, both really good drinks! We shared an appetizer of nachos, a huge serving we couldnt finish, and our mains were sirloin steak tacos on corn tortillas and a bowl style al pastor with shiitake mushrooms and shrimp. Everything was really flavourful and decently priced for the portions received. Note: this review was written in mid October and we ate on the back patio. I highly recommend dressing warmly, as the space heaters may not be enough to stave off the cold. Thats the only really critical thing I have to say, everything else was great!

Tacos were very small and quite expensive, but very very delicious. Service was okay, we came just as the staff was changing shifts so there was some confusion and it took them a while to take our order. If you dont have a reservation you get sat outside.

The food and drinks are incredible!! We will be back based on this alone. However the service was quite slow with us having to wait 30 minutes for them to take our order even though the our server didnt appear to be busy and we had empty drinks for a long time. They left the patio door open (which we asked them to close a few times) to keep the kitchen staff cool which made for a freezing dinner for the guests. I would say 80% of people in the dining room were wearing their coats at their tables. The patio is probably beautiful in the summer so we will be back to check this out!

Very nice tacos! I ordered online and now I cant wait to see their patio in person. Tasty food, soft tacos (which I prefer) and well packed.

First time on this place, and I have to say...I will be back!. Friendly staff, nice cocktails and delicious food!. My husband and I had Alambre and Mexican chorizo tacos, as well as nachos as entry. Everything was fast and nicely served. The waiter suggested Palomas to drink because we wanted something with no alcohol, and we enjoyed the sparkly combination of fruits. My only suggestion is turning a little bit down the music to be able to chat ( sorry, I am an old fashion lady maybe haha).

Great little Mexican join on Queen West! I really like their baja fish tacos and chips & guac. The portions of the latter were absolutely huge, which I also appreciated. The other tacos I tried, the shrimp and the al pastor, were a little underwhelming compared to some of the other elite taco joints in the city (namely Campechanos and El Rey). However, the interior had a great vibe, the wait staff was super, and the overall experience was very good! P.S. Go on a Tuesday! The tacos dishes are ~25% off for #tacotuesday.

Me and my family absolutely LOVED this place! One of the best Mexican restaurants in the city! Food is delicious and service was excellent! The interior is gorgeous!

We brought some friends here from out of town lastnight and we all had the best time! Such a cozy fun atmosphere and our food was incredible! The nachos and queso were both the best we had ever had and the tacos were delicious. Our server Addy was very friendly and helpful and added to our whole experience. We will be back!
