We came here for our 12 Year Anniversary and overall had a fantastic dinner. We did the chefs tasting and wine pairing - we asked to have the PORK SECRETO AL PASTOR but the other dished were up to the chef. There was a tiny issue with one of the dishes. I notified my server and they made up for it. Everyone was very attentive and we would come back to try more dishes.

Honestly not even sure to start with this one. Absolutely blown away! From the incredible warm welcome we received from Lewis upon arrival, to the impeccable service by George and the team, to every single dish we tried. Our group of 6 decided to agree on a bunch of dishes to try and share and it was undoubtedly an amazing choice. We got to try over 15+ dishes, each with their own deliciousness. The wood fire cooking was so amazing and the interior design of the restaurant had great vibes. The flavors of the dishes were incredibly layered and impressive offering evolving flavor profiles throughout each bite! This was my 4th Michelin restaurant (first in Canada), and undoubtedly my best. We already can’t wait to come back to this incredible fabulous establishment.

Quetzal was the first Michelin Star restaurant I've ever been to and it honestly shocked me. Shocked me at how good the entire experience was. I went with 3 friends and one of them was celebrating their birthday, we got the tasting menu divided into four and as a person who generally is picky with food, I tried every single dish and was left with my jaw wide open. The variety of flavours and combination I experienced that night was outstanding, not to mention the excellent service and the amazing setting and ambiance. It was definitely a Michelin star experience, and I am planning the day I come back and bring someone special with me to try this place out again. 10/10

Food was great, as you would expect. Great atmosphere. It could have been a perfect experience but we left with a sour taste in our mouths over a service-related issue. We opted for the tasting menu and were told that it is flexible and we can say if there is something that we really want or not. Our fault - we didn't know there is a steak tartare option on the menu that we don't really eat, so we were a bit frustrated getting that as our first course. Then we saw the bone marrow dish, served next to us and it looked great so we asked if we could try that - we got the dish (and so happy we did as it was amazing), but we were charged separately for it. We noticed it was the full size dish so we were wondering, but when we only got 1 dessert to share, we figured that was the offset - until we got the bill. What really ticked us off is that, towards the end of our meal, two separate couples seating next to us, who were served by another waiter, were given a MUCH better explanation of how the tasting menu works - that you can look at the entire menu, choose dishes you want, consult on what you're getting, and ensure you try all the dishes you want to try. That is NOT what we were advised and, had we got that kind of an explanation, it would have been a whole different experience. Paying $135/person on food only you have certain expectations. having to add $50+ for another dish and sharing just one dessert (when we later heard from a friend who recommended the restaurant that they got to try 2 desserts just a couple of weeks earlier), was less than we expected. I feel bad for rating service lower as the rest of the service was awesome, but this one thing is really what soured our experience.

Thos was my first Michelin star experience, and it was magical. My wife and I went to celebrate our anniversary and we were thrilled from start to finish. When arriving at the restaraunt, we were greeted and offered coat check (free of charge). We were seated and greeted by our waitress who made drink and food suggestions, including the curated menu which we already knew we would get. The best part about the curated menu is that you can let the server know what you prefer/don't prefer. Every tables curated menu looks different, and for the cost of the menu per person, you get A TON of food. The highlights for me were the fresh tortillas and the main course with fish, pork, and sweet potatoes. The menu felt perfect for the fall, and the service was impeccable throughout. We always received prompt service, new plates and utensils each course, and when you left the table for any reason a waiter would ensure your napkin was refolded and chair was pushed in. Truly a wonderful experience and WELL worth the money.

Got the tasting menu for my wife and I and enjoyed every dish, each was flavourful, well-plated and unique. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. Service was good, however they may have missed the reservation note that we were celebrating a birthday which was a tad disappointing especially for this level of dining experience. Bathrooms are a bit limited, and you’ll be a bit smoky after leaving. But overall a good experience.

We’ve been looking forward to this meal for months! The restaurant itself is very cute and romantic vibes. I like the decor inside and the relaxed lightening. We ordered their curated menu to try. The waiter was really nice and asked us if there are specific food on the menu that we like and how hungry we are. We noticed that their curated menu is slightly customized. The table next to us are also ordering curated menu and we can see that some items are different - because they’ve been to here before so they know what they like. For example they’re getting four scallops compared to two scallops for us, but we definitely have something that they don’t have. I think it is kinda smart and nice! The service is excellent! Food wise everything was really outstanding; however, the two mains were a bit disappointed as we found the sauce for octopus was too salty; and the pork itself was lacking a bit of flavour (the sauce was good though). The dessert was pretty good and they had a candles on it as we were celebrating birthday. Overall it’s a good experience! Would give it another chance next time and hoping to try different mains. (Or if they changed the sauce).

One of the hardest to book in Toronto, Michelin Stars 2024, only street parking near Bathrust and College. Yes, Quetzal is the name for famous Mexican food. Atmosphere is loud, table is kinda small, but everyone wants to come and try. We ordered Newfoundland scallops, Bone marrow with Argentina shrimp, pork al pastor, and Tres leches cake. Scallop on half shell with lime tastes wonderful, almost every table ordered. Bone marrow with shrimp comes with 6 tortillas, and I am wondering why not 6 pieces of shrimp. Pork tastes like and looks like Chinese cha siu, but with a touch of spice. Finally the wow factor comes from the dessert. One good thing is that the waiters will change sharing plates for every single course. Good experience, reasonable price, tasty food, well deserve Michelin star!!

Very pleasantly received upon arrival and it was incredibly busy, but also in terms of sound something you might not expect, I think its a star store! We sat at a table near the kitchen (warm) this was a real pleasure to sit here and follow every move. The food was very tasty and I thought the price-quality was good, the speed at which everything came was actually bizarrely fast. The only downside is that if you indicate you dont like something, it will be left out but you wont get anything else in return? Finally got 1 dish, but still.

Very cool guy and runs a great crew. Highly recommend amberjack aguachile to start (trying making a spoonful and closing your eyes while savouring the incredible flavours in one bite, amazing) and the Newfoundland scallops, whole seabream (pair with heirloom corn tortillas and the ensalada verde), and tres leches cake. Yum!!!

My waitresses, Isabella (I hope this is the spelling of her name) was the highlight of the whole night at the restaurant. I had went to Quetzal about 2 weeks ago while on a work trip and even though I was by myself I was treated incredibly well. The food here was unbelievable, lots of different foods I have had before but prepared in ways I have never tried - I 100% recommend the octopus and cold scallop entree. Isabella was very well informed about the menu and provided lots of different options for me considering I was by myself - she also was great as she talked with me about why I was in Toronto and talked with me almost as if she was a friend. 10/10 would recommend!

Lets assume that if you are looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant in Toronto, this is not it. However, Quetzal is a restaurant that proposes a menu based on ingredients used in Mexican cuisine, but prepared and presented in the style of signature cuisine, fusion. The place offers you very rich, well-curated flavors, and the attention of the staff is unbeatable. The room may be a little noisy, small and dark, which makes it difficult for some to enjoy the dishes. I recommend paying for the menu and exploring everything they offer at different times.

As soon as I entered the restaurant, since I had no idea that entire kitchen operates only on open fire(no gas), I thought they had smokey aromatic diffusers set up in the dining room. Once I got close to the kitchen & seated at the chef s table, I finally realized that where aroma was coming from. It is like sitting at the campfire & loved it. What a nice surprise. Started with smokey mezcal flight tasting. Bar manager brought 3 choices of mezcal along with the bottles and explained the history and pinpointed tasing notes which was very helpful. Smokey mezcal went great with each dishes cooked on open fire. We opted for curated tasting courses($135) and they served 9 dishes from the existing menu and 1 dish from off menu. We mentioned that we loved seafood and we were served with 5 seafood dishes( 2 scallop dishes, 1 amberjack, 1 sable fish and 1 octopus), 1 meat, 1 memela, 1 veg dish and 2 dessert dishes. They incorporated a touch of Japanese such as umeboshi, miso & mizuna into traditional Mexican dishes. All the seafood, meat & vegetables were prepared really well. Especially enjoyed how vegetables were charred and dressed. Was also great to try all the different salsa & mole such as Leche Negra, salsa mocha, black garlic mole negro and green mole. Here was the part that I hated. There were many things going on in each dish they served and I was anxious to learn. When my servers explained the dishes, it sounded like they were just memorizing and reciting a narratives like a robot in a fast pace. So at the end I was like did he say miso & cauliflower where? While we were eating there was a number of times we had to get attention from servers to ask questions about the dishes. Where is the fish coming from? What is this puree again? There was one time that a server explained something and did not make sense, one of the cook jumped in to explain clearly. Thank you. There was a reason I picked curated tasting menu - to have a culinary journey & experience Quetzal. At least my servers ruined it. I feel like they needed to work on speaking clearly & slowly, highlighting what makes the dish excellent(show some pride), connecting with the patrons more. There are more important things than folding my napkins every time I go to the washroom imo. When making a reservation, mentioned on Opentable that it was for my birthday, candle was not shown on my dessert as well. It was first time that happened to me when I dined out for special occasion.

My husband and I came here for my birthday. The venue has an interesting and elegant design with open concept kitchen. We were seated in front of the cold kitchen. The cocktails had interesting ingredients and everything we had was balanced and tasty. We picked a variety of food items to share including the empanada oaxaqueña, bone marrow & Argentinian shrimp (with corn tortillas), dry aged hudson valley duck breast (my fave) and coal roasted sweet potato. The food was plated beautifully. There were layers of flavour and the sauces were punchy with various levels of spice. Service was impeccable and the flow of our meal could not have been better. Only downside for me was the atmosphere - your clothes and hair leave smelling like smoke and the acoustics were not great.

A nice casual tasting menu served family-style which isn t my favourite form since you have to share with your table mate but not a huge deal. The appetizer ceviche was the most sour i ve ever tasted which is good if you like sour. Beef tartare stood out with a delicious cream sauce on top of the beef. The salad was pretty normal and nothing special. I really liked the scallop which was very sweet but I m not sure why the server told us to drink the scallop sauce after because it was straight up butter. The strawberry + ice cream dessert at the end was one of the best desserts i ve gotten from a tasting menu. The other dessert with the coconut mousse was just okay since the mint leaves really overpowered the taste. If I were to go again, I d probably ask to take out a few dishes and request some since I saw other tables have beef in the mains and scallop as appetizers. Lovely but typical service for a tasting menu with new cutlery + wipe downs in between dishes. Overall a pretty nice experience but nothing blew my mind except for one of the desserts.

Easily one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto. The food here produces fireworks in my mouth. The flavour combinations are so foreign, yet so intriguing. The folks at Quetzal are true pioneers and are spearheading the elevated food scene for the city. Scratch that, the country! Very well deserved Michelin star. From my experience, any type of scallop dish is a certified banger. Their grilled meats are honestly better than steakhouses in my opinion. I m also not a dessert kind of guy, but Quetzal never misses when it comes to closing out the dinner on a high note. Don t miss out on the chance to have a dinner you ll reminisce of fondly every week. Treat yourself, you deserve the splurge.

And they started offering a tasting menu ($125 per person) to really increase the dishes each duo can try. They even have an off menu version, where you re presented with some dishes that aren t available a la carte or adjusted based on seasonal ingredients. You don t have to ask me twice; off menu we go. Almost every table seemed to order the dry aged amberjack aguachile ($32). It s certainly stunning with the ruby pink rhubarb juice studded with scallion oil, a mild but refreshing accompaniment to the fish. Having been dried aged, the amberjack was denser but still tender and the dollop of pasilla and chickpea miso gave it a bright pop of flavour. While I could have done without the jicama slice (it s a bit dry and sucks some of the flavour out of the dish), the garnish does add to the dish s presentation just enjoy this separately. Then things get interesting: we re asked if we d like to have a drink with the remaining rhubarb juice. Um, yes! Spooned into shot glasses and mixed with mezcal, the flavour profile completely changes from tart to savoury and spicy. It s like magic. Our next dish goes off the menu with a flatiron steak tartare. This needs to get on the menu as it was one of the best tartare I ve had. Diced beef was mixed with olive, chilis, and something slightly crunchy (fried capers or puffed rice?) creating a wonderful varying bite. But it s the airy hollandaise crowning the tartare that stole the show, adding a creamy element that s not unlike aioli but much fresher and lighter. The following memela is available on their menu, but the tasting gives it a different take. The toasted blue masa tortilla was covered with melted cheese, poblano (?) sauce, mushrooms, and pickled cactus, and a host of other ingredients. Together it created what I ll describe as an amazing deep dish Mexican pizza, without the excess sauce and breading. One of these with a salad would be a great meal for one. Who would have thought popcorn (albeit in powdered form) would pair well with Newfoundland scallops ($39)? A meaty sweet scallop, salty butter powder, herby garlic butter, and sprinkling of tangy Tajin created a delicious bite. Like Lays tag line goes they re so good, you can t just have one. This is a long review, for the rest go to Gastro World.

My wife and I had an incredible dining experience at Quetzal. We opted for the curated menu at $130 each and were absolutely delighted. The portions were generous, and every dish was bursting with flavor. Our favorites were the lamb rack, which was cooked to perfection, and the mushroom & shishito, which offered a delightful blend of textures and tastes. The attention to detail, from presentation to service, was impeccable. We left feeling completely satisfied and can t wait to return. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience!

I cant believe that I can eat such a delicious course and feel full at this price. One of the few truly good restaurants among Torontos Michelin-starred restaurants. You shouldnt expect the service to be at the level of other high-end fine dining restaurants where each and every customer is meticulously taken care of, but the food comes out promptly and without delay and there is nothing lacking. The atmosphere is very noisy at the front of the restaurant, but the chefs counter at the back is in front of the brazier, so its warm and has a nice atmosphere. Everything tastes delicious. What was especially delicious were desserts such as shrimp, tacos, and strawberry shaved ice. The main dish was always disappointing compared to the other dishes, but the sweatbread was fantastic. A must-visit restaurant when in Toronto. Highly recommended

This is the only Michelin stared level restaurant for daily dining that makes you feel go back over and over and over again. This is a Mexican food restaurant, and Im an Asian. I rarely visit the Mexican restaurant. The only reason I visited here is because the restaurant name is on the michelin guide and rewarded one star. Honestly, I didnt even believe that Mexican food from Queztal would be this attractive to me. This place really makes me addictive. This is the only restaurant on the Michelin guide in Toronto that I finish tasting every single dish on the menu. Lovely taste. Australian M8 wagyu is probably the best steak ever had in Toronto. I had high expectations for this restaurant, but my experience fell short. If youre seeking a Michelin-star restaurant for the first time, consider another option for a more unique dining experience. Pleasant ambience, interior design and atmosphere. The service was generally acceptable; however, our server seemed disinterested in ensuring our experience was memorable. At some point, we expressed that one of our dishes wasnt to our liking, and he didnt bother to ask why or offer any remedy. Additionally, they didnt seem to have a step-free bathroom which is disappointing for a Michelin-star restaurant. Despite this, the food was well-presented and generally creative. However, the excessive smoke smell in the restaurant was quite off-putting and borderline intolerable, and our clothes were left smelling like we had been in a campfire the entire day.

This restaurant is delicious! We did the tasting menu and asked for the pork secreto as well which they accommodated, and the wine pairing was excellent. It took them a while to start serving us after we were seated, but once the dinner got going it was exceptional. There was one dish that was off the menu (lamb sweetbreads) and it was probably the highlight. They end the drink pairing with a shot of tequila which was great! Would definitely come back here to try more dishes.

We tried the tasting menu. We loved most of the food. But some things were underwhelming. We have certain food restrictions, they did good with respect to that. We loved their shrimp mole tacos the best. The shrimp was just scrumptious. As was the fish, so delicate and tender. But also juicy. We also enjoyed their blue corn meal pizza (of sorts). Shitake mushroom and shishito pepper dish was one of our favorite side dishes. The cherry tomato and cucumber salad was also nice. Now for the not so great parts - the dessert was just so underwhelming. The mousse and the other dessert with vanilla ice cream and cereal flakes were both just about ok. I would give it 2 stars. It was so disappointing to end with that. They should seriously redo their desserts. For a Michelin place, they should do better. The cold salad with endive was just too much. We couldn t finish it. And i think i had a bit much of it at the start not knowing whats to come. It was good but they should rethink the quantity. The grilled asparagus were also just about ok. Nothing we can t replicate at home with that crema. Apart from food - service was just spot on. Absolutely blown by how present and free flowing the service was. There was good continuity. I am not a huge fan of the smoker. By the time we left the place, all our clothes and us included smelled of it. It was not suffocating but super stuffy where we were seated. I get that they are an open kitchen but their smoker goes non stop. I would avoid sitting near it if you have asthma, breathing issues or generally don t enjoy the smoker smell.

Decent service. Tableware is replaced between dishes and the table is wiped. Servers introduce each dish when it came to the table. Tasted DRY AGED AMBERJACK AGUACHILE, EMPANADA OAXAQUEÑA, BONE MARROW & WILD ARGENTINIAN SHRIMP, and 14oz RIBEYE. The first three are nominated in the Michelin Guide. Aguachile, Empanada and shrimp tasted OK. However, the bone marrow and ribeye were greasy as they were not savory enough. The bone marrow was not comparative with the one served at Casa Mono, which is another Michelin 1-star spanish restuarant in Manhattan, New York. The ventilation in the restuarant needs to improve, as there was always a strong smell of charcoal fume. I felt a bit choked near the end of the 1.5-hour dinner, and the smell stays on my clothes. Dietary restrictions: Servers do confirm food allergies with guests. Parking: There is an attended parking lot at SW corner of Bathurst & College St. $15 flat rate.

When you first enter this restaurant, you can see how beautiful the architect here is. I love the layout of the bar being in the front, and as you walk down, you will see the grill, and at the back end, where they continue the food prep - fully an open concept style. I can see the team work is seamless, where they would coordinate so well with each other to ensure the quality of the food is not hampered. For the cocktail, I had the Hermosa Rosa (5/5), very nicely made. For food we got the tasting menu, which we highly recommend after our experience. You will be full, come in hungry and ready to eat. It was a great idea in order to try out different aspects of their creation (keep in mind, the menu does change, hence our gastronomic experience will differ from yours). And finally a shout out to the service, exceptional, a great place to feel comfortable and celebrate our special occasion. So thank you Quetzal for this experience. Siklik pak: Due to the picked cactus, has a sour finish (partner preferred this more) Dry aged amberjack aguachile: Not bad, smokey. Clearwater farm tomato and cucumber: Pretty good, refreshing Empanada oaxaqueña: Loved this, juicy, tasty, one of our favorites. Newfoundland scallops: Well excuted, tasty, recommend. Bone marrow and Argentinian shrimp: I loved this alot, probably my top dish. Good blend of sweet and salty Mushroom and shishito: Mushrooms always good, but nothing too out of the ordinary. Pork secreto al pastor: Superb, probably top two favorite dish. Oh so soft and juicy. Sablefish: Love love, even though we were so full, we just had to finish this dish. Don t skip out on the fish. Epazote raspado: Compressed Strawberry, white chocolate ganache and cornflakes with shaved ice 5/5 Tres leche cake: horchata cream sea buckthorn, rice tulie 4.5/5 Overall Kel rating: /5 + for exceptional service The good: From start to finish we felt that the service, food, and experience has been amazing. The decent: If sitting by the bar near where they cook, it can get a bit toasty. The ugly: None

Lamb taco was yum, also the soft tortillas to go with the bone marrow had a unique flavour which surprised me. Mushroom has an obscure spicy taste, not my fav. Lamb chops were yum, on the fattier side. Duck breast was also tasty. Also ordered scallop ceviche, it s good. Food took a bit longer than expected to deliver to us. Packed space with mediocre ventilation. Loud and smoky throughout the meal. Overall it s not bad. Prob pretty authentic but I expect a better experience with the price we paid.

When you re inside, it s hard to believe you re on college street. You really feel transported somewhere else. We sat at the chefs table because we love watching the hustle and bustle in the kitchen. If you choose chefs table, note that you will smell like a campfire when you leave and that it s pretty warm because you re next to open fire. We got the dry aged amberjack aguachile (fish), the Sikil pack (pumpkin seed dip), the ensalada verde, and the whole sea bream with a side of masas. No complaints about anything. The acidic oil that the aged fish came in paired really well with the fish. The pumpkin seed dip was packed with flavour and paired nicely with the bitter endives, and the whole sea bream is a must. It s crunchy, moist, and if you get the tortillas on the side, you can make little fish tacos. We saved the oil from the aged fish so we could top off our fish tacos. Other than the food being 5/5, the staff knows the menu like the back of their hand and the architecture inside is an experience of its own. I highly recommend coming here to celebrate a special occasion!

Was a bit surprised by the Michelin star for this one. Had the tasting menu. Portions were massive, which is generally a good thing... however, one of the courses was an entire baked sweet potato with chilli oil. Most plates were alright, but lacked complexity and uniqueness. Otherwise, great bar environment, and cool oven with a semi open kitchen. Could be a nice place for drinks, based on atmosphere alone, but I found that the drinks werent as strong either.

The mushrooms were amazing too. The pairings of sauces were also great. A very unique take on Mexican food. The only small issue we had was the server we got wasn t the friendliest and I saw her eye rolling with one of the other servers for when we requested to switch an item that we ordered by mistake. We didn t even want to impose but the guy offered to replace it for us so we said we would appreciate if it was not too much trouble. We scored a last minute reservation on a Thursday night at 9:45pm at this Michelin one star restaurant. We were greeted by the wonderful smell of wood fire burning in the the open kitchen, and were promptly sat by the distinguished George, who turned out to also be our waiter. The place was full even though it was almost closing time, and yet we never felt rushed or pressured to order. Everything about this place was topnotch. The drinks, the food, the service were all exceptional. Executive Chef Steven Molnar, a Japanese-Hungarian that is bringing Mexican inspired food to new heights, has definitely raised the level of Quetzal. We began with the Sikil Pak which was made magical with the addition of pickled cactus. Then we had the Mushroom and Shishito plate, with heavenly fresh-made blue and yellow corn tortillas and a crema poblana to die for. The Newfoundland Scallops were buttery and delicious. A glass of the Aglianico and glass of the Bobal red wines just added another layer of yum. For dessert we ordered the incredible Coconut Nicuatole. If Chef Steven had not gotten us hooked by now, this dessert cemented our admiration for his creativity. They also sent us the Spiced Mexican Chocolate as a birthday offering. We were left wondering if the chef had gone to Mexico and experienced traditional Oaxacan food while on a magic mushroom trip in order to come up with these recipes to satisfy the most demanding palate of any munchies suffering stoner or an undercover Michelin food critic. The evening was topped by the fact that the gentleman who had been sitting next to us, and apparently having the curated menu with the beverages pairing by the looks of it, had secretly paid for our desserts! We never got to say hi or thank you to him, but he and the whole team at Quetzal left us giddy and filled with gratitude for a birthday night to remember.

Very good flavor and the chicharrón adds an interesting crunch. 4. The Octopus ($45) was overcooked and the sauce has a strong, bitter taste even in small quantities. 5. Amazing food and service.

May 22, 2024

I would like to preface this with saying I ve worked in hospitality for 8 years neither of us have ever experienced the type of interaction which we did dining at Quetzal. First of all, food was 10/10. Our server, Isabella, was phenomenal. She pointed us in the right direction because we wanted everything, but weren t interested in a tasting menu. Actually told us to order less food on two occasions. Between the two of us, we ordered a cocktail when we sat down, and another with our appetizers. We got the Caviar and the Ceviche. When we asked her about the Bone Marrow, Seabream and Pastor, she told us to only order two, but we ended up ordering all three. We ordered two smaller sides of the mushrooms and salad. When we saw the sweet potato we ordered a third side. Isabella actually laughed at us. With dinner we got one more drink and when we had finished we ordered a shot of reposado to finish off an OUTSTANDING meal. With the shots I ordered an espresso martini as a digestive. They had warned us that they had another reservation coming at 8:30. So at 8:24 we moved to the bar for dessert. While I was waiting for my guest in the bathroom, I saw the bartender making a drink with crushed ice. I asked if they had Mexican Coca Cola, which is something very nostalgic for me from my travels in Mexico. Which is also caffeinated in addition to the espresso martini. When he returned, we ordered another round of the previous drink we had, but he did not bring them. Around ten minutes later we decided and ordered dessert. With that order, I had asked him if we had ordered them, as a kind gesture / slight reminder thinking he may have forgot. He then said they wanted to get more food in us before we have another round. I have cut people off before. I understand the business. We had 4 ounces in 2 hours and an obnoxious amount of food. Additionally, I had ordered an espresso based cocktail and a coke, which both have caffeine, and for anyone who doesn t have a smart serve.. sobers you up. The bartender offered us the manager. Who came over and said we had 5 ounces in an 1 ½ hours (incorrect), and that they would serve us after we got a Tres Leche Cake (unsure how that could possibly sober anyone up) after we had ordered $500 worth of food. They said they monitor by drinks per hour, but had the time and amount wrong. We were both sober. No indication of being over served. I questioned their line of communication on over serving because to end an interaction on this note totally ruined our evening. I asked him to look at the amount of food on the bill in his hand. It was obviously his first time even reading the bill. I told him we had even ordered 3 bottles of still water. Something he was not aware of? I think upon realization of the obvious breakdown of communication, his fix was to comp a few things off the bill.. we said we would pay for what we had that was never the issue. We opted no tip on the machine and tipped Isabella directly $150 cash. We understand it was likely tip pool, but there was no way we were leaving it on the machine after that. I went to hand it to her, and he went outside to wait. I do not believe the managers realized I was still in the building, because as I was walking out the two of them fist bumped and were laughing at the interaction. I stopped and said, is this funny? .. at a Michellin star restaurant.

Two of us were seated at a high top table in the bar area. We were told that walk-ins have a 2 hour time slot which immediately made us feel uncomfortable. The waiter told us that the menu was designed for sharing and that he recommended we order 8 to 10 dishes which sounded extremely excessive. We ordered 4 items and he then told us that we were ordering a light dinner. We couldn t even finish the food we ordered. Quetzal has managed to make Mexican food a pretentious and uncomfortable experience. The food was good and the drinks were flavorful. No tacos option was disappointing. Overall the service was very good.

Their Dry Aged Amberjack Aguwachile are once in a lifetime experience, and I highly recommend it if you are one for a scrumptiously tasting. It s worth a try, absolutely!!! A place to go to for a special occasion and to celebrate something special. It s terrific :) leaves you craving for more and longing to visit again soon.

Honest Review: Similar to some of the other lower reviews, Im surprised by the Michelin Star, given that the food isnt anything special. We ordered the scallop ceviche, lamb barbacoa, pastor tacos, and the bone marrow - all tasted ok. Service wasnt great for a fine dining experience, but I geberally favor the food experience anyway. However, the food lacks distinction, authentic mexican flavors, and any stand-out dishes. At this level of dining (compared to Alo), it seems like it was night and day difference. If youre looking for an overpriced dinner with some tender pork in a homemade taco shell, this might be the spot!

Quetzal is one of my favourite michelin restaurants in Toronto. Every time I visit, food gets even better. Scallop and octopus are a must-try. Tajima rib eye and A5 wagyu were one of the best steak I ever had. The mushroom dish goes extremely well with the steak. I tried many cocktails/ mocktails/ wine at Quetzal as well and it certainly gave me a more refined Mexican experience. Servers are very kind and friendly. I wish I could give 10 stars if there was an option!

In an unassuming location this place is a truly a gem that should not be overlooked. My husband and I sat at the kitchen bar so we could watch all the action happening behind scenes and feel the heat of the open fires used to craft the various dishes. From the very moment we entered the experience began. All the staff are so warm and welcoming and there s such a warm ambience upon entering. Sitting kitchen side is definitely not for the feint of heart. You can really feel the heat of the heaths but it made us appreciate that much more the Individuals working so closely to the flames to create all the magical dishes. We opted for the curated menu along with the drink pairing which did not disappoint. Their sommelier is well versed in what is being poured and offers great facts along side the typical descriptions. The food, well there s no words that can truly describe how beautiful it is. From the first dish all the way to dessert, every bite feels like a journey of love and labour kissed by fire. A must to experience. The most we could put into words is that the combination of prawns and bone marrow in a build your own taco was the greatest bite we ve had since Cinc Sentits. There s some off menu magic to tantalize your tastebuds as well with the curated tasting, which makes it all that more worthwhile. My only hope is that they will start to jar their mole, because it was single-handedly one of the greatest flavours I have tried in my life. As we were walking out I told my husband to get back on the wait list for the kitchen side seats because I cannot wait to go back. If you re still on the fence, stop. Go make the reservation or just walk in for one of Toronto s best culinary experiences.

Spectacular food, and warm unpretentious service. Quetzal fully deserves its Michelin star. We chose the degustation menu and they even tweaked the menu for my wife who prefers more fish/veggies over meat. Every single dish we were served was top notch but the secreto al pastor, ceviche, and Newfoundland Scallops were standouts Was it expensive ? Absolutely. But was it worth it ? 100%

One of the best meals, if not the best meal I ve had to date. Amazing food, great ambiance, excellent service. Great for an occasion. Dishes here are more savoury salty in profile with sour and spicy notes. Each dish was seasoned perfectly with depths to its flavour alongside various textures. Water was constantly filled, table and plates cleared after each course, food served promptly, and upon arrival your coat and bags are taken care of. We got the curated menu ($120 pp). Could not remember the names for everything but would recommend for first timers. Comparing against if you ordered dishes individually: Course 1: Dry aged amberjack aguachile ($32, on menu) Course 2: Beef tartare - did not see on menu Course 3: EMPANADA OAXAQUEÑA ($34, on menu) with ENSALADA VERDE ($26, on menu) Course 4: Newfoundland scallops ($39, on menu) with Bone Marrow and Argentinian shrimp ($52, on menu). Put the shrimp and the bone marrow on a tortilla, and it was amazing. Hot wet towels were provided as this dish can be messy, very thoughtful. Course 5: PORK SECRETO AL PASTOR ($48) with Charred mushrooms and shishito peppers (did not see on menu) Course 6: Two desserts - a pomegranate yogurt cream with wafers and pineapple, and a chocolate mousse with honeycomb. Not a dessert person, but these were some of the most complex and delicious desserts I ve tried to date.

First time experiencing a Michelan Star restaurant, and I was surprisingly pleased. I went with the curated chef menu. They asked if I had any food preferences and adjusted the menu accordingly. Everything tasted phenomenal. It was interesting to taste food combinations that I would normally never think of combining. My only complaint is that the portions are pretty small, but otherwise still enjoyable.

Came here for a birthday dinner. Everything was delicious. Great service and there are so so so many employees you are taken care of every second. Ambient and nice decor. Great drinks. But again food was just absolutely phenomenal. The menu is short and doesn t overwhelm you but everything is quality and mastered. Particularly the bone marrow Argentine shrimp dish stood out. Empanada was really good. The duck was very fatty and great and the mushroom dish was phenomenal!!!

I was excited to try my first Michelin starred restaurant after having an amazing experience at RPM, however, I was a bit underwhelmed. The service was okay. They did everything you would expect a Michelin star restaurant to do but there were times when we d notice our glasses being empty and drops of wine being left on our table for a bit too long. The highlight for me was the al pastor. The pork tasted delicious and was beautifully seasoned, however, this was it. The lamb empanadas weren t filled with as much meat as we would have liked, so some of our bites were mainly just the tortilla itself. I was also not a fan of the sauce that the lamb was paired with. I was warned beforehand that the sauce would be a bit spicy and to be a bit careful when using it. However, there was no kick to it at all, which I think would have went well with the dish. Overall, my experience was not bad but it just didn t live up to my expectations.

Excellent michelin starred experience. 6 course curated tasting menu was chosen with guidance from staff. Every course was outstanding, and the sommelier paired wines to match. We sat at the chefs table, and Stevan Molnar was working. Its a great restaurant and a great masterclass in delivering really excellent foid

I chose this Michelin restaurant for my birthday, but I was very disappointed. It can be said that the food was very unpleasant and the environment was very noisy. The table next to me kept making loud noises. I ate three scallops, and two of them had chipped stones or shell fragments. And it s quite large, toothache-fuzzy, and the roasted jujuju paste is all bitter, and I can t taste the mushroom flavor. The duck breast has no aroma at all. I feel like I m an animal eating raw meat. If there is no sauce, I can t swallow this meal. I thought it was OK after eating pork neck.

We had the sample menu that the staff picked our meals for. We were very happy with the choices that were brought to us. Almost everything tasted amazing. The only thing I didnt enjoy was the Mole, which could just be a preference thing for me. Everything else was absolutely delicious though. The meats were extremely tender, the veggies were crisp and flavorful, it all just went well together. The service was great, the staff was very attentive. I left there very full and very happy.

We went to Quetzal for a date. Had high expectations since Mexican food is already incredible and this place has a Michelin star. The food was shockingly bland. Bland Mexican food! No spice, very little flavour. Many sauces were bitter. Pork Secreto was the only highlight but this cut of meat is hard to ruin. Grilled shrimp were good. The atmosphere was really nice but a bit smoky which was kind of nice but then my hair smelled like campfire afterwards, which was annoying. Staff were awesome.

We went for my birthday dinner and were treated to wonderful service from start to finish. Everything on the venue was thoroughly explained and our server kept our dietary restrictions in mind throughout the evening. Me and my partner both ordered the curated menu which ended up being 5 courses each with dessert. The first thing I noticed was the respect for the ingredients and everything was absolutely fresh and beautifully presented. We sat at the bar in front of the grill which can get quite warm but you get a front row view of the action. The scallops and pork dishes are to die for and the beet salad was the best beets Ive had ever. The atmosphere here is different depending on where you sit but Ill say at the bar is definitely more exciting and I believe it allows you to take a bit more time in between courses as you watch all the delicious looking food be prepared. When the chefs arent busy they are talkative and hold each other in extremely high regard. Definitely the best seat in the house. Ive left out some of the dishes we ate to leave some air of mystery but please, if you decide to dine here, try everything you can. You wont be disappointed.

Wow it was so good! We did the tasting menu and got a little bit of everything. Everything we has was delicious and the presentation was top notch. The stand outs for me has gotta be the scallops, empanada, and the tacos! The pork tacos were so tender, juicy, and flavourful! The wrap itself was the perfect vessel to tie everything together. All I can say is they do meat really well! Best mexican food I ve ever had! Although, I wasn t a fan of their veggie dishes. They were good but nothing special. I would skip it next time. Although I m curious about the mushrooms. The dessert was incredible! I m lactose intolerant and they have been super accomodating to that. Most places would just give me a slice of fruit and call it a day but they had 2 dairy-free desserts! I love that these two items weren t just an afterthought. They were creative, delicious and creamy! I dont remember what it was but it was a nice ending to our meal. I was very full and satisfied after. Will def be coming back to try the bone marrow! The place itself is beautiful. I like the shape of the ceiling. We sat by the grill where we could see everything being made - that was quite a show! It was a little hot being so close to the fire but there was also a nice cool breeze from the ac. Overall I really enjoyed coming here :)

Upgrading my review from 2020 to 5 stars. They fixed some of the issues (lots of smoke in dining room; slow service). This is one of my new go-to spots for special occasions. The food is incredible and you can t beat the price point for this quality of food. I recommend doing the tasting menu where they curate a number of dishes for you. It s just over $100 per person and you get a large quantity of food. Definitely recommend. Expect to spend around $140 per person before tip if you are having a drink.

I have been to a few michelin restaurants around the world and Quetzal has quickly stolen 1st place in my rankings. I would go back and have every single thing I ordered again: lamb (extremely tender / generously fatty and has chocolate mole !!wow!!), top-tier bone marrow and juicy shrimp, scallop ceviche (surprise crunch from leek), lamb empanada (jam-packed with tender flavour), garlic scallops (loved the green broth!) and coconut dessert. Special mention to our waitress Camilla who formidably explained the menu and gave us the best suggestions. The level of hospitality and attention to detail was 2nd to no one as well. The moment I dropped my napkin, it was picked up and replaced the next second. Any left over precipitation from my drink on the table, cleaned up swiftly like magic! Cant wait to come back !!
