Hailing from a family with over 100 Years of Food expertise in Damascus, Syria. We’re all passionate about the care and special techniques that make our food. We cook our Juicy meat using special lamb fats, make our small-batch garlic mayo fresh daily, and use spices our family has used for generations. We’re committed to adding quality just-like-home Damascene food to the joy of Canadian cuisine!!
I cannot put in words how fire the food was. We got kabob wrap, and Damascus quesadilla. Quality of the food is beyond excellent. Will recommend to everyone in Toronto, most probably the best shawarma spot in DT
Complete with Um Kulthum playing in the background, a piece of Damascus is in one of those magic street food containers on Dundas street. Had the sujuq sandwich ya lateef it was so good and the potato sandwich (no onions) so comforting. If u want to act like a local, follow the etiquette written in Arabic: “smiling is a social duty”, “the self favours those who (hashtik and bashtik it) ~spoil it and treat it good”, and “speak to me in Arabic no fuss” (if u can). Highly recommend this joint!
Came here because of the wonderful reviews on Google. The food didn’t disappoint. There was so much flavor in both the chicken shawarma and the beef kabob. The man who prepared my order was so friendly and gave outstanding service. Too bad I was just visiting Toronto. I’d definitely come back!
Amazing authentic Syrian street food I haven’t had it in 10 years. Must try the beef kebab and of course soujek (it’s a little spicy for kids) but a must have. And you need to drink Ayran drink bit all the drinks here were amazing. Ice tea & lemonade
Lebanese / Syrian here. BEST MIDDLE EASTERN SPOT AROUND TORONTO. Everything from the kebab to the shawarma & “Toshka” (syrian quesadillas). Founder & Chef Harwash is incredibly friendly & hospitable too. Must try!👌🏼🔝
My dad and I randomly found this place and tried their beef kabob and Toshka Damascus Style! O.M.G. Both were so delicious! The service was also great and friendly. Would highly recommend and canton wait to go back for more!
I was just walking by and the menu looked interesting. I don’t usually eat Syrian food, but shawarmas are good to me. The chef/owner approached me and recommended that I try the toshka. I said sure, and he asked me to wait a bit. He made the dish to order and was careful with preparing it. He offered some pickles, and I obliged. There is a table on the sidewalk, but I took the food inside the community center for more space. It tasted so good. I would go back to get it again! Credit card/apple pay accepted. (Also posted on Google)
Found this spot randomly and tried the Shish Tawook Wrap, which was incredibly delicious and crispy. It was filled with chicken and other flavours. This guy makes the shawarma wraps much better than some of the famous middle Eastern restaurants. It's a hidden gem and shawarma lovers must try it.
Based on the ratings, I dined at Chef Harwash in early - mid September and was very pleased with this venue on the Street. The patron was friendly and treated this American well. The entree was delicious and his friendliness will remain in my memory.
All the five star reviews are fake, chicken lacks flavour very disappointed Food
Hands down the best shawarma wrap in downtown Toronto. Been to Pita Lite, Pita & Hummus, Alphas, Salad House, Flaming Stove, but nothing compares to this.
Ive come here for years now, and their food is always so wonderful. Full of perfectly balanced flavours and you can taste the home theyve brought with them in each bite. Theyre the ones that made me fall in love with falafels! Before Chef Harwash, I actually didnt like falafels...but they showed me a whole new world with how theirs taste. Also love their wraps with pomegranate molasses. It brings a type of depth that I felt was always missing for me elsewhere. Their drinks are also so, so cozy and tasty. Try the karak chai and if youre lucky enough that they have it that day, their sahlab is the most wonderful drink Ive ever had. Tastes like a warm hug. If they dont have it as a hot drink, I think they have it as ice cream on their menu right now which is super unique and tasty experience too. Also the most amazing and kind pair of brothers Ive had the pleasure of meeting. They touch peoples lives and have deep lives of their own. I wish them success in all their endeavours, and am so lucky to be able to experience them and their food here.
Chef Harwash is an absolute gem in Toronto for authentic Syrian cuisine. The flavors are rich, the ingredients are fresh, and every dish feels like it s made with care and tradition. The Toshka, with its perfect blend of kebabs and cheese, is a standout, and the falafel is some of the best I ve ever had crispy on the outside, perfectly seasoned inside. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the service is top-notch. Whether youre trying Syrian food for the first time or you re a long-time fan, this place is a must-visit!
Highly recommend stopping by, the food here is always great!
Vegetarian options: Yes available Food
That was the best chicken shawarma weve ever had. The owner is really nice, and he gives you such huge portions too! Also definitely try the homemade iced tea as well <3
Amazing place amazing food
The food was the star of the show. I ordered shawarma, and it was absolutely delicious perfectly cooked, well-seasoned, and presented beautifully. The flavours were rich and balanced, and it was evident that fresh, high-quality ingredients were used.
Best shawarma ever. And good attitude from the owner
Food and service is amazing, would recommend. Owner went out of his way to make sure my allergy needs were met.
Amazing food and nice service
Kind friendly chef
All of his food is incredible. His drinks are also fantastic. Try everything off the menu. His Sujuk sandwich with his home made ice tea is my favourite.
Falafel is great. If you can handle spice
Super tasty shawarma!
I visit this place every time I am in the area, even if it means ditching some friends for 30 minutes if I have to. Incredibly tasty food, and it is absolutely best to eat it immediately, just in front of the container. When its hot and everything is blended just right, the flavours are unreal. The beef soujouk is not your everyday seasoned ground beef, it is among the best youll have. The dipping sauces for the crazy cheese wheel, when all blended together, is unlike anything else outside of other Syrian cuisine.
Harwash is a wonderful person. Great tasting food.
Chicken is fresh and tender, the wrap is delicious, and the hot sauce is excellent. Will come back!
Amazing food, the best service, never had a shawarma better than this
Tasty Falafel Sandwich | Friendly Service
Amazing food and the fellas working recommended the perfect food.
This one needs an award. To be honest, this has been the ONLY shawarma in my life I ve ever had that has tasted genuinely fresh. He makes the food right in front of you and it is sizzling off the grill. Never had usomething like this before. The shawarma is 10/10.
Fire for great prices
Such delicious food and the nicest people! And they re open late! Definitely check them out for some yummy and authentic Middle Eastern food!
This place is a vibe. Great food and people!
Ordered chicken shawarma, it was not good. Taste was completely missing.
Best shawarma in the city, hands down. Friendly service too Vegetarian options: Falafel Food : 5/5 |
Late night spot, very authentic!
Went there after 11pm. Ordered some kind of chicken dish in a pita and also a fallafel dish. It tasted fabulous. The chef was very friendly and accommodating. Very surpised how good the food was. The place is small but they have indoor seating next door. I ate outside on the picnic benches. This guy needs to expand brcause his food is great. Strongly recommend
Delicious, and great service great food, highly recommended
Wow! Shawarma blew me away. The chef was so friendly too :) it comes close to shawarma you get in Malaysia. Love the simplicity and flavours. MUST try. The chicken shawarma was out of this world
Perfect! Great food. Amazing service.
Honestly, I thought this place was overrated. I ordered the chicken shawarma and from the photo it looked like the fries would come on the side. However, they put the fries inside the wrap. The service was good but the food was mediocre. There are a few picnic tables outside where you can sit. I didnt like the area of downtown this food truck was located in so the dining atmosphere is not the nicest. The experience was not good enough that I would visit again.
Literally the best falafel sandwich in all of downtown Toronto, this is coming from a vegan Egyptian who consumes nothing but falafel. Ask for extra pomegranate sauce!! The owners are so sweet and the food is always amazing! Also the drinks are so unique and delicious.
Best Shawarma in the city! I would highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic Damascene. Food : 5/5
This place lives up to the hype! I got the chicken Shwarma and it was delicious! All the ingredients were fresh and the chicken was tasty! I would definitely recommend and will be going back!! Awesome customer service too!!
DELICIOUS!!
Absolutely phenomenal! Best shawarma I ve ever had !! We got the shawarma, hummus, and grape leaves. All three were excellent and the customer service was 10/10. Wish I lived closer so I could get this all the time! Dietary restrictions: Peanut allergy safe and soy allergy safe.
Delicious kebab sandwich
I wanted to taste everything!! The portions are generous, you have to choose and everything is delicious Welcoming, smiling and very kind chef! Very good time thank you very much
very great experience, very friendly. Food was delicious.
Excellent service but the shawarma is mediocre
Best food in Toronto. From a foodie person. The guys are amazing and very friendly and happy to serve you. Enjoy !
Amazing food. Very friendly owner
really yummy shawarma!!
A bit pricey but delicious food
Chicken shawarma wrap with fries
Astonishing, the Toshka Damascus Style Quesadilla is the greatest thing Ive ever had. Pairs excellent with the sauce thru provide. Cheesiest meal Ive had. Will be back for more. Be sure to get it with the Soujek mixture
Got chicken shawarma it was very delicious
The absolute best! Food is fantastically good and worth the trip there! Highly recommended
SOOOO GOOD!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Best shawarma in Toronto!
Lovely conversation and friendly environment. Very clean and proper :)
Hummus was delicious
Absolutely amazing service and food ! Top quality fresh ingredients and the taste is heavenly! I was treated with kindness and respect by the owner (something almost nonexistent in Toronto). This is how you run a business. Thank you Houssam, I will definitely come back !
Above all the expectations The BEST shawarma in Toronto! You will not be disappointed.
The brothers gave amazing service and the was delicious.
the best beef kebab wrap in the city, i drive 45 mins at times just for this.
Yummmy syrian food, friendliest hosts/chef. We tried soujeck toshka, which is cheesy minced beef in bread. The food was so delicious, saucy, and juicy. we just have to come back again and try the chicken platter it looked grand!!
Super good food , authentic and very tasty . Vegetarian options: Falafel Food : 5/5 |
Amazing food, amazing people, and fast service.
Its the bus
Best in the business, chef needs an award! Juicy, healthy and spot on Shish Tawuk wrap- made my day!
Very nice and tasty food. Got the Sojeck Toshka and it is definitely better taste and quality than other restaurants. The person there is extremely friendly as well. Highly recommended!!
They have best Shawrama in the world. I have never eaten such a great chicken and beef wrap. they are super kind and icing on the cake is Karak Tea. when you take a sip you feel like you are sitting in damascus or Kashmir or kazakhisthan whatever you like Food
It s very good and clean food
I recommend it really amazing food and great taste.. excellent service Food
I give a lot of five stars, but this one is real. Parking: Its just on the sidewalk Food : 5/5 |
Delicious food & Amazing people
2024 May 3.5 Chef Harwash (family name by the way), serves some demascus (middle eastern) foods. These include Falafel, Shawarma, soujek, kabab and tots. Falafel $10 Not bad at all. Lots of stuff. Pretty good size. About 7-8 inches. Certainly worth it. Typically, they add a fair amount of sauce. So might want to ask for a lighter dose. Otherwise, overall not bad. Would want to try other items.
Had the Tawook sandwich and it was amazing, Id say the best in the city. Ill definitely go back to try other things. Must try!!
The beef kebab brought me back from the dead! Great service too!
Chef Harwash has the best chicken shawarma in Toronto. I strongly recommend to try the Soujeck sandwich. Everything there is so delicious. And Chef Harwash is rightly proud of his products.
People say it s the best shawarma in Canada, after going there I can see why. Highly recommended.
Beautiful food and people Vegetarian options: Beautiful falafel Food : 5/5 |
The food is absolutely amazing. It s exactly as good as the food you would eat at a restaurant in the Middle East. Lovely people and excellent service as well :)
This restaurant is the best, especially the beef kabab
So good food, love the soujok sandwich Also, the rice is great Food
Its one of the best burgers I have ever had
The best place in toronto eveeerrrr!!!
One of the best shawarma place the person can ever find in downtown. The maintain the hygiene in the store and prepared my food with good quality products. Fast service. Definitely come back. I am your permanent customer now. Kid-friendliness: French fries
So so so delicious
Best Food in town
Great authentic food! Highly recommended
if the smell doesn t get you to order, hopefully this review does my friend and i got the chicken shawarma and a soujek toshka respectfully, and boy let me tell you, it was definitely what we needed after spending five and a half hours at a tattoo parlour. words do not i don t have the words to do [the chicken saj] justice -friend originally i was going to do the chicken toshka, but chef sold me on the soujek mixture as he mentioned there was more spice to it it was the perfect amount of spice! you can taste the soul of syria in every bite and in every sip. chef definitely loves his heritage, and loves the food he makes, so be sure to try his stuff if you re ever in the mood for a hearty meal; or if you re ever in the area:)!!
Tried the sujuk and the ayran and it was one of the best things I ve ever tasted. I can t wait to come back!
Chef Harwash is hands down the best Levantine food in Toronto, straight from Damascus! Fresh ingredients and beautiful flavours, and truly kind and generous people. We will come again and again!
The food, the service and the atmosphere. Everything will pleasantly surprise you here. Must try!
Amazing! Was looking for a quick bite in the area and saw the reviews for chef harwash s. It did not disappoint - the chef recommended the Toshka and it was incredible!
**A Must-Try** Chef Harwash s Middle Eastern food is a standout in Toronto. Not only is the food exceptional, but the warmth and service are top-notch something many places in the city lack. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a delicious and welcoming food experience. And OFC
The chicken shawarma is to die for, although I m coming from far, it s definitely a go to place. Just on Dundas, best street vendor by far.
Best shwarma in the city not exaggerating
Awesome dude and awesome food!
The best shish tawook I ve ever had!!
Came all the way from New York City, Food was delicious, really good and it is Halal. Coming back soon
Had an incredible experience! The food was absolutely delicious and yummy every bite was bursting with flavor. There are two chefs who were super kind and respectful. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for amazing street food and great service! Food
Found randomly, great food, great service, we loved it every time.
Best Soujouk / Suçuk from Detroit to Montreal. Absolutely outstanding! Thank you, Chef Harwash!
Very tasty beef shawarma. My girlfriend told me that Syrians make the best food in the Middle East, so when I saw this place was owned by Syrians, I had to try it. Very balanced flavours, nothing overpowered. You can see the spices in the meat, the vegetables were good and the bit of parsley was A nice touch which brightened up the wrap along with the pomegranate sauce. I lived in Ottawa for 6 years and it s known for the best shawarma in Canada, and Chef Harwash is up there with them. The owner is such a sweet man too with excellent service. He wasn t there when we arrived and we thought he closed. My girlfriend called him and he said Habibti, I am at the halal market I will be there in 20 minutes to serve you . Price was fair. Uses Dempster Wraps- a wrap from a halal bakery would be nice and I d pay extra for it. Overall worth a visit
Houssam @ Chef Harwash is a Culinary Genius! If youre on the hunt for Middle Eastern cuisine thats off the beaten path, this is your spot. Despite its unassuming exterior, Chef Harwash dazzles with flavors that will leave you craving more. Houssams dedication to his craft is evident in every dish, elevating Middle Eastern cuisine to new heights. The cozy ambiance adds to the charm, creating an unforgettable dining experience. Once youve tasted the magic here, youll be hooked. Heres to many more years of culinary excellence! #ChefHarwash #MiddleEasternDelight #HiddenGem
Let me start by saying I dont care much about shawarma. Ill eat it if its given to me (bc free food obv) but otherwise, I have never actively sought out shawarma in Toronto bc I find it bland and dry. Then we found Chef Harwash and omg my guy, NOW I get it. The flavor profile was surprisingly complex and the chicken was cooked beautifully. Truly a gem this place.
Delicious, delicious food and great service Everything was as wonderful as it could be in their hands, Lord
Ive lived in Toronto for 14 years... and Alhamdulillah this is my fav chicken shawarma so far. The homemade garlic sauce with the pomegranate sauce is a beautiful marriage. And that chicken, seasoned so well and so tender.. You can smell that seasoning right outside the spot. I will be returning for more menu options. Salam!
Chef Harwash! Number 1 shawarma in the country hands down. Only thing that can top this one is shawarma straight from the motherland in Lebanon, and that s just barely! I literally felt like I was back home, from the experience to the shawarma itself it was top tier
Had one of these special shwarma last night, served with kindness and professionalism by Sam. It was my first time and I truthfully am finding it hard to get a great wrap here in Toronto. This one was fantastic, stuffed into a lightly charred large pita and then pressed in a panini maker. They add a handful of shoestring fries into the wrap which instal but excellent. The flavours blend into perfection in every single bite! Open til 11pm, this shoebox of a location churns out the very best!
Hands down the best falafel in the city! Im from Durham and have been wanting to go back to try more of their menu items.
Delicious, must try! The meat is tender and marinated perfectly.
Delicious shawermas!
Best Kabab in the town. The rice, salad and the pita was so tasty as well. It totally hit the spot and so worth it after a long day :)
Top shawarmas Ive tried here hands down. Wrap is crispy and delicious, meat is juicy, and toppings are perfectly balanced. This is the closest to chicken shawarma in middle East.
Love this place! As a Lebanese, trying to introduce people to Levantine food, this place is THE place. Their shawarma is very tasty, even tastier than Shawarmas Ive had in Beirut! Their cheese manoushe is very yum. Highly recommended.
Loved the food ! Great service ! They wrapped our food up so warmly that even after walking outside to get home it stayed nice and toasty
As a Syrian myself Ive struggled for a while to find authentic food in downtown, and from the second I took a bite I was immediately reminded of home. The chef was very friendly and helpful too. I took my order to-go and it was packed very well, the food was still very hot by the time I got home. We tried the shawerma, soujuk, beef kebab and halloumi manakeesh. Will definitely be coming back again! Dietary restrictions: Halal
one of the best food ive had in toronto! great service (incredibly friendly and welcoming), very reasonably priced and very well seasoned!! 10/10 would come again when im in the city
Possibly one of, if not THE best, food stalls I ve ever had the pleasure of eating at. Very friendly owners, incredibly tasty and perfectly spiced food, and though some might say that the food is pricey (I personally think it s more than reasonably priced), I believe it s worth every penny. I made this review after my friends and I practically devouring their Chicken Shawarma, Beef Kabab wrap, Soujok, and Halloumi Cheese Manakeesh. They took special care with wrapping our food to keep it hot (and they were, even after almost an hour s commute home); Overall really great food, really great service, all of which brought me back to my days back home in the UAE. My only disappointment lies with the fact that I can ONLY give them 5 stars; I d give 6 stars if I could! VERY highly recommend grabbing a bite whenever you can!
Amazing and delicious food. Tastes just like home. Super friendly and lovely people. We ended our dinner with their ice cream which was to die for. It tasted like heaven. Great place. Will definitely return even if I have to drive another five hours. Food
We started with hummus which had olive oil, sumac, and parsley (plus mint?). The hummus was super creamy. Despite having extra tahini compared to how we make it ourselves, it was really good. The tahini was not as earthy, bitter, or strong as we get at home so perhaps this is yet another example how product knowledge and quality ingredients make the difference. We asked for lemon to spritz over the hummus, as we like it to be super acidic and bright. The halloumi pizza came out next. Halloumi cheese is very salty but that was mitigated with hummus, pimento/olive hot sauce, and lemon. For those, like me, that generally dont like olives, trust me when I say, these olives were delicious especially in this sauce. The dough was stretched right in front of us before they put the crumbly halloumi cheese on and tiny pizza oven baked the fresh dough to a soft but crunchy crust many pizza-centric places cant seem to muster with bigger dedicated equipment. We switched to using the halloumi pizza for the hummus instead of the flat bread plus all the accoutrement we acquired. Fantastic. Fabulous. Delicious. When the kebab came out, it was wrapped in an unleavened and hardy flat-bread wrap. Fresh tomato and onion plus sauces made for wonderful little Mediterranean burrito. Pro tip: Ask for extra of the syrupy pomegranate sauce and yet more lemon and hot sauce. Pro tip 2: since many chefs are adjusting salt down to allow customers to more readily adjust for taste preferences, and if you normally like a bit more salt on your protein, ask for salt to be added to the beef kebab before they put it on the griddle. That is much easier than trying to add it a pinch at a time after each bite into the assembled wrap. For those with a lower heat tolerance, try it on the side. I think once you have a chance to taste it, youll always want it. It seems they figured out a way to tamp the heat down without sacrificing the flavor. If you like it hotter, perhaps bring along your own oeleck sambal. Overall, the meal was not just delicious, but memorable. We love food from all over the middle east and North Africa. The spice blends really speak to us and the food depends on freshness and simplicity to be at its best. Chef Harwash offers all that with a healthy dose of cultural pride and love for their customers. We cant recommend them enough.
The best restaurant and amazing service
The best Syrian food in Toronto! The flavors and the quality was excellent. We tried the sojok and chicken shawarma sandwich s and I can t wait to go back to try the rest of their menu. I highly recommend to give this place a try! Food
Best shawarma in toronto
Omg the food is amazing!! The lemonade is out of this world. The sandwiches are so good and fresh! You can t get this quality in downtown. The service and the owner are so friendly!
The owner was so kind and their food is amazing!
Dropped by here on a whim today and got the chicken shawarma. The gentleman who made it was really sweet, and the chicken shawarma was absolutely the BEST I ve ever had!! As someone from South Asia who is usually underwhelmed by food in Canada, the rich flavours and freshness of the shawarma really hit the spot. I rarely leave reviews, but this was deserved. This place is a 40-minute walk for me, but I WILL be coming back again - SOON.
Amazing falafel! Even on a hot summer day everything was fresh. The hot sauce is brilliant and should not be missed.
Best syrian soujeck!!
Brothers!
I ve had the pleasure to meet Housam & Ousama! Hardworking, welcoming & generous gentlemen. They represent the hospitality Syrians are known for. I wish them all the best! Vegetarian options: A lot of vegetarian options including: hummus, baba ghannoush, yalanji, falafel wrap, zatar wrap & tamari!
Delicious, freshly made shawarma from a hole in the wall type of place. Cooking takes a bit of time but meanwhile you can people-watch and maybe even witness police chasing a suspect. A must have Torontian experience, I was told.
I tried the Soujeck sandwich and absolutely loved it, super flavourful and made fresh to order. I came back the next day with my husband for him to try. Service is great and food is always fresh and delicious! I must come back and try the shawarma :)
The staff is super friendly, The food is amazing, Its absolutely the best sujok sandwich I have ever had in a while. Highly recommend! Food
Two of the most amazing brothers i have ever seen, they have the best food in Toronto. They have the tastiest and best syrian food compared to the size of their shop. I cannot describe the taste. You have to try it!!. You will not regret it. They are among the best local Syrian food. If I can give them 10000000/10 i wont hesitate to do so. 100% i will come back again and again. I highly suggest everyone try it out and their prices are acceptable. Never leave with out trying their KARAK TEA it is the best. I wish you all the best guys and looking forward to meet again soon. All the best!!.
One of the best shawarmas you can get in all of Canada
They make the best falafel sandwich I ve ever had!! If you haven t tried Chef Harwash yet you re truly missing out
Delicious, fresh food and super friendly service! Can t wait to go back :)
Amazing food, great owners and chef. Even watching him cook was mesmerizing. Best kabab wrap I ve had in a very long time! If you re in the area, this spot is a must try.
Very good and delicious. We ate a sausage sandwich. It was very good and I recommend it to everyone who visits it
Hands down the best shawarma, kebab and falafel I have ever had.
Amazing. Some of the best shawarma Ive ever had in my life (and there is A LOT of shawarma in the GTA to have). A little hard to find. Sandwiched between two other food carts.
Best shawarma Ive ever had.
Amazing chicken shawarma with those golden fries.. Too good..
Get the Soujek for sure!!! The two Harwash Bros know what s up
Very good service, food tast like home Love the food and it is the best in downtown Toronto. Highly recommended Food : 5/5
I had the kebab wrap and I have tasted a lot of wraps this year trying to find the best one, most of the top ones are in Mississauga but I tell you this wrap I had here takes the number one spot. This the best wrap I have ever had in my life so far. It out ranks all the other wraps by 10 times. I highly recommend that you give it a try. The sauce is phenomenal, exceptional and delicious. Perfectionism in food is rare, glad I found it here.
Grape leaves were amazing. Parking is limited and community center had restrooms.
Delicious recipes and fresh ingredients, prepared by loving expert hands
Ive only ever had the falafal here but Ive had it many many times! Its one of the best in Toronto hands down. Super unique in that they use mint leaves and a mouth watering pomegranate sauce for a little extra sweetness. Ive recommended this place to so many friends, and everyone just loves it.
Fantastic food. Would certainly recommend Chef Harwash.
CHEF HARWASHHH NUMBER 1!!!!!
