High ceilings & modern furniture create a chic setting for French-inspired dishes & seasonal drinks.
It’s unfortunate the restaurant is closing - enjoy while it lasts especially the fish. The calamari and shrimp were on the bitter side due to charcoal remains
I recently dined at Boehmer Restaurant and had an exceptional experience. The food was fantastic, with each dish perfectly prepared and bursting with flavor. The service was top-notch; the staff were not only friendly but also very attentive. The atmosphere was inviting, and the style of the restaurant was incredibly stylish, creating a wonderful dining environment. Highly recommend!
My coworkers & I had a lovely experience here. The food was absolutely delicious, however one thing happened at the end of the night that was a bit upsetting. My friend & I asked our server if we could split a cocktail on the menu and he said sure. We were already pretty tipsy and so full but really wanted to try this sour on the menu before heading out. The waiter comes back with two sours, says “we don’t do sharing here” and laughs, we say okay sure, down the drinks & wait for our bill. When he brought the bill out we noticed he charged us for both of the drinks. I wish the server hadn’t went ahead & made the decision to order us another cocktail without us agreeing to it because we were already at our limit with alcohol and cocktails aren’t cheap either. Other than that, we had a wonderful time.
Food was okay but definitely worth the price. The best dish was the smoked salmon appetizer but by the end I had stomach ache. They also forgot our bread and only gave it to us halfway into dinner
The food was delicious, especially the main course which was excellent. My steak was perfectly cooked to medium and super tender. The pistachio dessert was not too sweet, which suited my taste. The restaurant has a great location and a good atmosphere for a Friday night hangout. However, the waiting time is a little long, but I think it's due to the style of the event. Overall, it's an excellent place to try if you're in town.
A beautiful place with warm, polished service. It seems like a gem hiding in plain site, as it was not very busy on a Thursday night. Lovely cocktails and a well-chosen wine list that offers enough options while not overwhelming guests with too much choice. I really enjoyed the two specials I had. I started with burrata on frisée and blood orange salad. Perfect with a French 75 cocktail. My main was Tournedos Rossini topped with foie gras. Absolutely gorgeous. It paired really well with Domaine Queylus VQA Pinot Noir 2019. I highly recommend this restaurant. There is a private room here, and if I ever need to host an event, I will definitely consider booking it at this restaurant.
I love the restaurants and bars on Ossington Avenue and this restaurant just became my favorite place here as it can satisfy my adventurous appetite. Finding parking can be tricky at times as there are limited street parkings available; or you can park in parking garages close by and walk to the restaurant. They offer coat check, which is really helpful during wintertime. The chef is very welcoming and spends time at customers’ table to help them order. We were a group of 12 people who ordered appetizers, mains and of course lots of drinks. They offer half price wine bottles on Tuesday nights. They offer variety of veggie and meat options from lamb, seafood (octopus, lobster, scallops), venison, beef and rabbit. I strongly recommend trying their Grilled Spanish Octopus, Ontario Rack of Venison, Venison Tartare and Lobster & Scallop Bol-au-Vent. Definitely worth trying.
We went to Boehmer on June 6th, 2023. We were walking north on the Ossington strip and found Boehmer’s patio enticing enough to stop in and have an early dinner. We initially sat on the patio and were greeted by a male server who helped us make our food selections. After our cocktails, endive salad, and their homemade bread were brought to us, we found the patio to be a bit too windy with the daily special menus being blown around, and gusts of wind whipping our hair around. Not seeing our server, we asked another female server if we could sit indoors as the restaurant was not filled up. She was very obliging and had our food and drinks moved to another indoor table. After this move, our original server was not attentive to us. He would walk by and pay us no mind, serve the tables within our view and keep stepping. The new female server made up for his lapse in attention and we ordered two more drinks. Our mains were now 20 minutes post order with no explanation of when they would appear. About 25 minutes later, our mains appeared, and our original server showed himself to explain the food presentation. He was as attentive as he was originally, but to us he seemed disingenuous. Sadly, the food did not make up for his odd behaviour. The meals were not hot, but lukewarm. On a scale of 0-10, with ten being the best, everything we ate was a 5. And at Boehmer’s price point, their food should be at least an 8. Perhaps the sautéed asparagus was a 6 for flavour balance and taste, so I’ll give them that. In this post, I'll be sharing some photos of the food we had. Despite its appealing presentation, the dishes didn't quite meet our expectations. Perhaps, the explanation could be that chef Boehmer wasn’t present during our visit, so this is what one can expect.
Never paid his bills
It was really one of the best martinis Ive had in my life. The good taste of the coffee and the very respectful service made it a very good night for us. Our friends who ordered barley water were also very satisfied. We ordered fries as a side, which were delicious, fresh and crispy.
Went for a wedding, food was on point delicious, had the cod and it was soo good the soup was amazing and deserts soo good. We had drinks and Im not much of a drinker but they were good they were not watered down or overly strong. I had a rum and coke and a cofee tonic. Kid-friendliness: No
My boyfriend and I stumbled across this restaurant and decided to give it a try. I ll start with the positives - the staff was friendly and the atmosphere was a good vibe. As an appetizer we ordered the grilled octopus - probably the WORST dish we have ever eaten. The octopus itself was flavourless, but the dish had a particular pungent taste that was very off-putting. For the main course, we had ordered the branzino and the chicken fricassee. The chicken dish was decent, I enjoyed it, however the branzino also had that bizarre pungent taste to it. For a $200 bill, we were extremely disappointed. Will probably not return.
Really enjoyed eating here! Great food, great service, didn t have a 2 hour wait like a lot of the other restaurants in the area.
We ate here tonight and everything was amazing! The service was great, the staff was constantly checking on us, refilling our water, making sure the table was clean. Everyone was super friendly. The food was outstanding, we loved the triple seafood dish & the octopus. We felt the price was very fair for what we received and we will definitely be back next time we are in Toronto!
fantastic meal - great atmosphere thank you for an unforgettable night out Food
Food. Cocktails. Service. Vibe. All A+ will definitely be back!
Frequent half price oyster specials and the best dirty martini on the block has me coming back every week.
The service was great but the food was mid. We had the oysters and escargot which was a great start and the hopes were high. We then waited about 40min for our 2 steaks cooked medium. The waitress then brought our food to 2 different tables before it got to ours. Once we recievd our steaks one of them was well done. The manager delt with the situation pretty well as I returned the steak and he covered the price of the steak & glass of wine. Overall I would not go back due to the food being nothing special.
The people that work here are extremely rude. The bald man with glasses had a lot of attitude.
The whole experience was very weird. We had an assigned waitress (who really took good care of us and was new) but another waitress was coming regularly to apologize and looked like she was trying to discredit our waitress on her job. The appetizers took 1h to come and we were asked to confirm about 3 times what we ordered. The mains took another hour while they were ordered at the same time as the appetizers. Sounds like the kitchen has definitely some issues that need to be fixed. I missed to say there was only 3 tables to serve so not something that could justify the wait. The food was average, nothing that can justify paying a high price. Me and my partner were disappointed and it is difficult to say we may not come back.
The grilled octopus and calamari were delicious! The service wasn t rushed at all and we were able to enjoy our 2hr dining experience.
We have been here several times, it is one of our top celebration spots. We were celebrating our anniversary recently, and we had an amazing time. Sean and Michael were very kind to us. We really enjoyed the personalized service, professional atmosphere and incredibly high quality and reasonable priced food/wine. We have been talking about it ever since, and telling everyone. We cant wait to come back! (Pretty sure we saw The big man himself present in the back and on the floor!)
Just wanted to shout out that the server Vicky was amazing helping us out with finding a both our meals and a wine pairing. All the dishes were delicious, and she was great and super attentive!
Beautiful atmosphere and a great cocktail happy hour! Sitting at the bar is great.
I cant believe I waited more than two hours for mids.
A place to go when you forgot to make reservations everywhere else. We were truly shocked that we were able to get a table here for a large group on a Friday night. When our food was delivered 80 mins after ordering it became clear why. The restaurant took responsibility for the long wait and comped us a few meals and wine so Im giving it 3 stars. The food was ok. Service was ok.
Unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. The service was terrible, the server came to the table 3 times in the whole night, the bread was uncooked and mushy, the food was average and honestly what is worst is that I did talk to the manager, not the server, about the service and he apologies but didn t care. For a premium price I would expect a decent service and food that doesn t need salt to taste like something.
The interior is nice, but the food and service leaves a lot to desire. We ordered bread and received raw goopy slices of bread that we had to return. We also had to wait 2 hours for our food and the steak fries were soggy. Overall I would not recommend this restaurant.
Had to make Last minute dinner plans as group of 6 and Boehmer was the only place available on a Friday night. I see why, the service was so slow it took 3hrs and we didnt even get dessert. Our server was not consistent in taking drink orders from everyone at the table and on both occasions we had to call our server back to complete going around the table. The food tastes good however its small portions and there are better options available at this price point.
An absolute gem of a place. The food is always impeccable, amazing wine and drink selection, and every server/bartender provides a great personality and energy to make you feel warm and welcome. I always have a fantastic time!
Can t say enough about our dining experience. Service was wonderful and the food was amazing. The Branzino was the star of the evening. Venison tartare was fantastic! Thanks Chad! Food
This place is a gem. Service is super friendly and the food is incredible.
My partner and I had a wonderful dinner here Saturday night. The atmosphere was elegant yet unpretentious, a nice space that feels like a well curated art gallery meets a good friends place. People seemed happy and relaxed there. Our server Stuart was excellent. My partner and I were impressed by his menu knowledge and knowledge of my partners list of food sensitivity s and how they would effect each dish. Stuart took these notes to Chef, who created a dish that was delicious, thoughtful and well presented. We had: To start: The Venison Tartare which paired nicely with the Pear Salad ( total hit, would come back even just for these dishes) For mains: I had the Rabbit Cannoli, the portion was so generous that I took half of it home for the next day. My man had the steak which usually comes with fries (that looked delicious) however due to his food sensitivity, chef paired it with the artichoke which was incredible! We paired the entire meal with the Brut by the glass, which was refreshing and not too sweet. Anyway, highly recommend this place! We will be back Oh, yeah, the hostess was excellent and a woman named Emily came by just to see how everything was, I believe she is the manager, and had a very nice way about here! Dietary restrictions: Night Shade and Celiac
Truly exceptional dining experience. The best tasting food I ve had in a very long time. The escargot and octopus appetizers were phenomenal. The rack of lamb was equally delicious. Definitely not a cheap date night, but you get what you pay for, and we were beyond thrilled with every aspect of the meal.
My friend and I got sat for our reservation at 8pm. We were then clearly forgotten which honestly didnt bother us too much as we were catching up anyways. Finally the manager had noticed we hadnt been served yet so they both came up to us quite awkwardly and not really knowing what was going on. The waiter then introduced himself and said Ill be back in a couple minutes to take your drink order. We waited a few more minutes then finally got to order our drinks. We continued chatting but became pretty impatient with the wait time when I looked at my phone and it was 8:35pm. We had gotten sat at 8pm and still had zero drinks or food orders taken from us 35 minutes later. When our drinks came the server put them both in front of my friend which we found kind of odd but no big deal. We then had to wave the manager over to take our food order. We ordered the half chicken and the steak frites. She asked us if we wanted to add fries to the steak which was bizarre since its literally called steak frites.. The entire experience felt very messy and forgotten. The food was great but unfortunately couldnt make up for the service ( with the exception of Danielle the host who was absolutely lovely)
This place is amazing, love the presence of the owner on the floor because the attention to detail is there. The food was amazing, the server was new but there were multiple senior servers that were continually checking on us to ensure things were good. My only negative is that we requested a specific table due to it being our anniversary and that being the table we had our first date on and it wasnt met... Very very easy request to grant given the early reservation time, and the dozens of empty tables that the prior table couldve been sat at to ensure it was free for us - from an operational stand point and having ran multiple multi multi million dollar venues in my past... This is a managerial oversight. None the less this is still 5 stars, must experience place IMO.
I m writing this review because I have seen this restaurant on Ossington for the past 4 years and every time I was like I should try this out, it looks nice and fancy and popular but I wish I never disappointed myself. I booked a table for two on opentable.ca for valentine s day. There were two options: 1)prix-fixe menu for $80/pp 2) a la carte I chose a la carte because I didn t like the courses on prix-fixe menu. We showed up at 9pm where we were told the table is not ready and they re behind their schedule and we could choose to sit at the bar or the big table with others. So we chose to sit at the bar and told them we d wait for a table to free up. 15minutes later we had a table. The tables were arranged so close to each other that we could not walk around them without touching other tables or jackets or people (and we re not overweight), I know they need to make money and all that but this is not a bar only and giving the customer some personal space is respectful and professional. The server told us that they only have the prix-fixe menu for the night, when I said I clearly booked a la carte menu the manager got involved and apologized for the confusion that they believed was opentable.ca fault and she offered free wine menu if we decided to stay which was nice. So we stayed just because it was 9:30pm on Valentine s day and there was no way we could find any restaurants to have us at that time without reservations. The courses came in and it was disappointment after disappointment served on plates We liked Kapocha squash soup tho. But the rest? Terrible! Imagine bringing customer rare steak without even asking them if they want it rare. I remember they used to ask people how well done they want their steak, isn t it like that anymore? I don t even want to talk about appetizers and the stinky fish. We got to a point that we didn t eat half of appetizers and didn t touch the main course and didn t order dessert; we paid +$200 for the experience and left the restaurant! What a romantic valentines day dinner, eh?! To be fair, the employees are polite and nice but my experience was simply awful.
Boehmer restaurant provided a well-rounded and delicious dining experience. The combination of fresh ingredients, flavorful dishes, and attentive service likely contributed to my positive review. Def will be back !!! Food
Outstanding service, cuisine, and hospitality make this venue exceptional. The complimentary coat check service adds to its appeal, making it a perfect choice for a date or a night out with friends. The friendly and helpful staff further enhance the overall experience. I highly recommend this place; its truly a fantastic spot.
one of the best experience I ever had in a nice restaurant in Toronto , thank you guys for the amazing service and the food was outstanding, A+ highly recommended.
As guests for a large dinner Birthday party last night..from the staff at the front of the house, our servers and especially Tony, they were very kind & attentive! The three course meal was delicious! Thank you to all.
Everything about this restaurant was perfect. The service from Ethan was impeccable, serving us unreal cocktails while still knowing exactly what was in the dishes we ordered. The food was unbelievable and cooked/prepared to perfection. We had the venison tartare, burgundy escargot, veal tenderloin special, cassoulet, lemon meringue tart, chocolate pistachio orb, and several cocktails (some from the menu, and some from Ethans own creativity). I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. The food, service, and atmosphere was top notch and I would not hesitate coming back here again for several occasions.
The food was better than I expected. We had steak frites, beet salad and escargot. Very flavourful. The service was good but not as friendly as we like( Just personal preference. Some people don t want to get to know their server) This place has a lot going for it but . Just a small thing! We ordered bread(which was very good) but we asked for more butter and they charged $2 for the butter. Seems a little nit picky when you re spending $180 for 2 in a nice restaurant. They should reconsider this policy. It s not a good look for a nice restaurant. I really recommend this place and will go back. Good food and a good time!!!!
The place is really nice and the service is great. Your meal price may seem decent until you get your mean and it is not that big. You need to get a few sharing appetizers plus your meal to be satisfied
I had a good experience here! The service was outstanding and the oysters were fresh. The other dishes were average, but mainly docking a star because we ordered a medium rare steak and they cooked it rare.
Lovely experience at boehmer. Service is very professional, all wait staff operate under fine dining rules with a nice relaxed attitude. The location is big and bright with wonderfully eccentric chandeliers. The space can be doubled / booked out as an art gallery or event venue as well. Food is delicious. Though as expected with a finer dining restaurant, smaller portions made up for in the quality and. preparation. Would visit again.
Came here to celebrate a birthday and had a fantastic time. Menu and wine list are great, but the service was outstanding. Great vibes and lively/energetic staff make for a really great time!
The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and welcoming. From the second you walk in you are treated like a close friend! The wine menu is absolutely incredible and if you are fortunate enough to be here on a Tuesday 50% off bottles! The food is exquisite, well curated and expertly crafted. No matter what you order you will leave happy.
My husband and I were out with friends. We tried a few starters, had some cocktails and dinner and everything was delicious! Our server Sam was really friendly and did a great job.
Are you firkin kiddin me? Omfg i asked chef to just feed me, it will take me a week smiling on my peloton to get this processed, what an experience!
This is the best restaurant in Toronto. If you have a chance to try their burger it s absolutely phenomenal.
Amazing service, food and hospitality. They even have a complimentary coat check at the front for wintertime (first come first serve due to rack space). The venue is also gorgeous with romantic vibes so it s perfect for a date or girlfriends night out. The staff are friendly and helpful. Food and drinks came out in a timely manner. I ve been here twice now and both experiences were stellar. Highly recommend! My top recommendations are the braised veal cheeks, bone marrow dish, charcuterie board, oysters, passion fruit margarita and their layover cocktail. Good wine selection too. Great place. Also, the chef is an Iron Chef
*edit and reply to Boehmer* Thank you. We will not be coming again. I asked around my friends in the industry. They were not surprised with my experience of discrimination / poor customer service. Seems like its a bigger and long-standing issue at Boehmer. ---------- Food was good, vibes, decor and servers (shout out to Matilda) were good. 3 stars knocked off for front-of-house interactions, that I *really* hope isn t discrimination, but you never know why someone tries to keep you out l it s like, do you not want my money? Details at end of review. Food highlights: Spanish octopus was a sizeable portion with flavours and textures on point. The funghi was also memorable with deep woodsy flavours. Wine list was great, and we each had glasses of wine with dinner. Matilda was our server and she was awesome, attentive, knowledgeable and really made up for the below-average hospitality at the door. Dessert was also great, we had the Rocher. I live in LA now and was hoping to take my parents to a nice restaurant while I am home. My dad was excited. We didnt make reso s and walked in on a Thursday at 6:15pm. We asked for a table and when Matilda was looking at the screen at front door, a gentleman (maybe Manager?) walked up behind her talked to her, looked at us, and then said No, we don t have space. He did not say I m sorry we are fully committed . We were waved away. I walked outside, and there are TONS of other amazing resto s along Ossington, so no big deal. But, my 80 year old dad was excited about this, and said so. So I try to make an online reservation. Lo and behold, there were openings available every 15 minutes. So I made a reso for 6:30pm and walked back in and waited to talk to someone. Same man (maybe Manager) came up and I explained why I m trying again, that I got a confirmation from an online booking. He checked his system, and just says: I guess you can t argue with the computer . No recognition of how he tried to turn us away, or explanation of why. No apology. The restaurant is half empty for the rest of the night. They were not full, and there was definitely space for us. We had apps, mains, dessert, cocktails and glasses of wine. So, I d say we are the ideal table based on how much we spent. I m not sure why customers like us weren t welcome. I have compassion for F&B establishments pushing on through the pandemic, but I expect the front of house interactions to be a bit more warm, welcoming and not make me wonder why me and my immigrant parents weren t welcome.
Went there on a Friday night looking for a last minute reservation for 13 people, they were soooooo nice!!!!! They accommodate the whole group and made our stay unforgettable. Sam was awesome. Attention to detail, such an impeccable, professional and personalized service. Will definitely come back!
Great restaurant on trendy Ossington strip. Severs and bartenders are exceptional.
I started going to this restaurant 10 years ago and everything about this place is wonderful! From beautiful wine lists, specialty cocktails and incredibly sophisticated dishes, this is truly one of my favourite places in the city. Chef Boehmer really goes above and beyond to make your meal a night to remember.
My girlfriend and I decided to celebrate her birthday at this restaurant. While the service and atmosphere were commendable, the food was somewhat inconsistent. I ordered the artichoke soup and Lamb Wellington special, which were both delicious. The Wellington was especially delightful and the serving size was quite generous. Overall, I really enjoyed both dishes. However, my girlfriends experience was less than satisfactory. She ordered an espresso martini, which I also tasted, and found it to be overly sweet. For her entree, she ordered the seafood trio at a cost of $59. To our surprise, the lobster tail served was no bigger than a Snickers bar. Although I would recommend trying the beef Wellington and the artichoke soup, I would advise against ordering the seafood trio or the espresso martinis.
Delicious meal from apps to desert. Excellent service
I m sad to say I had a terrible dining experience at boehmer last night. I was out with 2 of my girlfriends, first they ordered mocktails and I ordered a glass of wine. 1 mocktail took 30 mins to make and the servers excuse was the bar got slammed which we were fine about but even in that event that s a very long time to wait for a drink. We put in our food order around 8:00pm and enjoyed each others company while waiting for food. Our server never touched the table again to check in on us or even check the status of our food with the kitchen. It wasn t until 8:50pm that he came over and blamed touch bistro for not sending our food order to the kitchen and took no accountability for accidentally not punching our food in properly. Let alone waiting a whole hour to even check the status of our food while we sat waiting. Once he alerted the kitchen about our food it came out about 20 minutes later and when it arrived we ate quite fast as we were starving. He proceeded to glance over from afar but never check on how the food was or when we were done so once we finished the food sat dirty on our table for 30 mins. It wasn t until we ourselves had to stack our plates and put them to the side to indicate to the server that we were done and for him to come grab them. At this point we have almost been here for 3 hours and wanted to leave immediately. We asked for the cheque and the server quickly threw it down on the table and walked away. Absolutely nothing was taken care of off the bill after drinks took forever and he forgot to ring in our food and we almost had to wait an hour and a half to eat. It looked like no manager was on shift to run the floor and check in on customers. As a wife to a restaurant owner I am appalled. Let alone one of the girls we were with was pregnant and her intention for a quick meal and catch up with friends had her getting home at almost 11pm which non of us were anticipating. Honestly the whole experience was awful and I m sorry to say I will never step foot in this establishment again.
Amazing. That is all I can say. Everything was amazing.
First time at Boehmer . Freaking fantastic !!! From start to finish quality and love of food at its best !! Paul is a master of is art!! If you are in Toronto and want the best experience this is the place. Sean was our server, a real pro and that refreshing in a world of people that just pretend to be server. Will I come back ?? Definitely my go to place when coming to Toronto ! Vegetarian options: I am not vegetarian, but saw a vegetarian option on the menu.
Food was very average and pricy. We got rabbit ragu and the half chicken with the order of bread as appetizer. The ragu was not tasty at all, the chicken was a bit better. The drinks were ok , again not the best. And for desert we got creme brule which was very expensive for the amount that u get. Overall i would not recommend. Not to mention the waiter who seemed very annoyed with us. I could be wrong but that s the vibe we got from him.
Love this place. A group of us dine here on Tuesdays. Wine is 1/2 price and $1 oysters. So fresh and so delicious.
The chef has the magic ability to turn the ingredients into tasty meals.
Everything from the food, to the service and staff, to the atmosphere was out of this world at this restaurant. Highly recommend for a date night or a fancy dinner and on tuesdays they have half priced bottles of wine and oysters.
Great service and great food. If you have birthdays or any celebrations so this is the right place. Enjoy
The Parmigiano Reggiano creations were spectacular. Thanks for the invite
Love this place. Food and service is top notch. A refreshing change from the hipster vibe on Ossington (which I also love but sometimes want something different). Check it out for an elevator dining experience, great wine, and atmosphere.
Everything we had was great. The servers were attentive and accommodating. I loved the escargot and my wife thoroughly enjoyed the roasted bone marrow. Oysters were pretty good as well.
Excellent staff, very attentive
Excellent service. Absolutely loved this place. Food was great and the service was next level. I will definitely come back
Boehmers is a good option if you are looking for a semi upscale restaurant with reasonable prices and a fairly diverse menu. This is my second time dining here. The food is average, nothing really stood out but nothing to complain about. Drink selection is also decent, nothing crazy but again, nothing to complain about. The service however was incredible. Very friendly and attentive staff, any questions had were answered quickly and accurately, as well as the attention to detail, clearing and cleaning the table between courses, not to pushy but also keeping an eye on the table, very attentive and professional. Overall, if you are in the area id recommend giving this place a try, we will definitely be back.
Always such great service, drinks, and food. The oysters were so fresh, steak frites were perfect(pic attached), and the Oaxacian Mule to drink was delicious. One thing to note is I think its definitely time to replace their menu covers, tho. They look a little dated and worn out ,*which is a good thing where I come from*. 12 years open and going strong. We will definitely be back again and again.
First, by the end of dinner, everyone in our party really enjoyed everthing. The food and cocktails were first rate! BUT this place positions itself pretty highly, and given that, a few elements of our experience were baffling. 1. We enquired as to the soup of the day from the fellow who was refilling our waters; he didnt know, and had to enquire. Id think anyone working on the floor ought to know this. 2. We waited 35 minutes from ordering our cocktails to when they were served. Thats ridiculous. I suspect they had only the one bartender, and the cocktails were delicious and artfully done, but the wait is unforgivable. If theyd have let us know we might have ordered something for the quite considerable meantime. 3. One of our party ordered a beer only to be told that a problem in their lines left them with only NA beer. What? Like, send a manager out to the LCBO and get three cases of Beauxs for god sakes. Especially if your cocktails take that long!! So, there you have it.....excellent food and service overall, but work needs to be done on the level of polish.
Perfection
To eat, we had the foie gras, venison tartare, boar & rabbit ragu, steak frites, and chocolate molten cake. Would highly recommend all except perhaps the ragu it was fine, just bland. We asked for salt. To drink, we had an old fashioned, maple sour, French 75, a glass of Sangiovese, and gingerbread espresso martini. Would recommend all, especially the maple sour and gingerbread espresso martini. Service was one of the best experiences we ve had. Would love to dine here again. :)
Always amazing!!!
Been here four times now. Consistently a great meal. I wish this place nothing but success.
Wow the steak frites were amazing
They have a great boutique wine selection and impressive dishes. Their oysters, foie gras, and veal cheek are made perfectly. Don t forget half price wine and oysters every Tuesday!
They have fab cocktails with half-price wine on Tuesday s. I find the prices are quite high for what you get tho for example a simple burrata starter salad was $22. I got the rainbow trout, which I found very salty and the leeks underneath were quite mushy. The gnocchi was tasty, but seemed slightly undercooked. I don t mind paying premium prices but the food needs to be on point. Otherwise, it s a beautiful restaurant with a cool vibe. I can see it being a great venue for a private event since it s got that ambiance.
Service is great but the dessert is HORRIBLE. We got an Orange & Lemon Tart ($16) and Molten Chocolate Cake ($16)... the cake was 5/10 at best , Ive had better ones at other restaurants at a similar or cheaper price range. The Tart on the other hand was a very different kind of punishment. Lol, the most SOUR dessert Ive ever had in my entire LIFE. There was zero sugar there and the only edible item was the crust. I still cringe thinking about that awful sour taste. Sour patch kids is more balanced in flavour than that sour tart. Never ever going there again and would never recommend it to anyone else. The only reason Im giving this 2 stars is because our waitress was there sweetest! :)
Myself and my partner were at this restaurant for dinner. My main dish was delivered with a hair on it I noticed it prior to taking a bite of the food. Once I told the wait staff they brought over the manager who instead of apologizing stated that they had determined it wasn t the staffs hair, the manner in which he said this was almost indicating that it was my hair on the plate which was quite impossible considering I am blonde and the hair was brown, my hair was also tied up and I had not even leaned over the food prior to seeing the hair on my plate. It was disappointing that a restaurant wouldn t straight out apologize, however they did recook my meal which the food as good. The disappointment continues when They fully charged us tho for the entire meal not providing my plate for free no offer of a free app or dessert or drinks were made. I really would expect better service at any other local diner than here it seems. I will not be coming back and would not recommend unfortunately because of this experience.
Absolutely fantastic experience. Went in for Valentines Day with a special lady and we had an amazing night. Food was perfectly prepared, played elegantly, and the cocktails were phenomenal. The aesthetic in the restaurant is stunningly beautiful and I look forward to going back
Food is good and atmosphere is nice for a dinner but absolutely would not recommend planning an event here. Their events coordinator is unfortunately incredibly unprofessional.
Everything is just perfect
This is what fine dining is all about. Excellent service, incredible cocktails, and in-house cuisine. True to French style, even the breads were baked fresh in the kitchen (and some of the most savoury tasting bread Ive ever had). The menu is curated and changes often but whatever you get is good in portion and immense in flavour. One of my top picks in Toronto
The staff was amazing but this place was soooo over priced . That was our $65 lobster lol . Shrimps are bigger . Now we know why the restaurant was so empty.
Probably the most expensive restaurant in the hood. But their food quality and wine list was great! Especially their oysters were super fresh!! And their smoked jalapeño was amazing They have $24 for a dozen oysters until 7:30pm
Beautiful event held today, in a beautiful location
We had an excellent experience at Boehmer. The dishes were fresh, delicious and creative. The black cod was incredible. The order of fries was enough for a large family! I really enjoyed the Last Word. It s an excellent cocktail that is unique and tasty. The dining environment is well designed and the renovation really brightened the space up. The service was excellent and we look forward to our next visit.
Great food, thank you Chef Boehmer for lovely yummy food Special care for Vegetarian
Such a great atmosphere. Staff are super professional and friendly. They offer an excellent services and belive me you wouldnt wanna leave the place once you set your foot inside. My Irish coffee was prepared amazingly and we will come back for sure.
Waited 45 mins for a main course. Lobster was over cooked and felt like I was chewing a piece of gum. Service was lack luster. Overpriced food and overrated. Not coming back.
Great food. Amazing experience, the staff is fantastic
Our steak, agnolotti, and cocktails were delicious but I especially want to note that staff was very patient and helpful when on the hottest day of the year so far, my partner realized that she was suffering from mild heat stroke in the middle of our meal. Multiple people kindly checked in to provide ice water, cold towels, etc. I don t want to imply that medical care is a necessary part of service but we were grateful for the kindness.
Fantastic place for dinner, amazing service, great wine selection, and the cocktail menu is delicious.
An absolutely amazing experience from service to the atmosphere to the food. The staff were so friendly and helpful, they made some great suggestions! The food was so delicious, the octopus was the best I have ever had. Their pork chop was great also. They had a nice drink selection, the dark lemonade was very good. Highly recommend this place if youre looking for a great night out and a lovely atmosphere. Vegetarian options: They had a pasta without meat and sucatash
Fantastic. Cant wait to go back.
I have never left a review but my dining experience last evening called for this. Food was fantastic but the service was very disappointing. When we first got seated, we sat there for quite some time without being recognized. It is never good when you have to grab someones attention to see if we could have someone come to our table. We ordered a bottle of sparkling wine to which we had to pour ourselves. When food was presented to us, I was shocked no one came by to check in on how everything was. Our waiter was very arrogant and not pleasant to have at all. Our half price bottle of sparkling turned into full price on the bill. It was not until someone noticed us looking at the bill confused for 5 mins did they randomly come up with another corrected bill hmm check your receipt!!......will not return and def not recommend.
Damn good food and great waitstaff!
Been here before but a while ago. Nice to be back. Came to grab a couple of drinks with my buddy. Ended up also trying the 1 of the 2 tequilas in the nice looking bottles. The red one is Blanco and the blue bottle is resposado tequila, we tried the Blanco one. It was ok, yeah just ok lol! Anyway, I still will be back as the place has a nice ambiance to it. They also serve dinner but we had already eaten. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good dinner or drinks to give it a go!
Incredible dinning experience with tasty wines and amazing service. Highly recommended!!
Absolutely love Boehmer! Food is exceptional! Staff is very professional and the kitchen is very clean and organized! The decor is vibrant, communal table is gorgeous! You will not be disappointed dining here! 20/10
Great atmosphere
Garlic fries are soooo good!
We came here for dinner at the end of October, the restaurant was recommended by a friend and we have to say it was excellent. Our waiter Sean was wonderful. We ordered the oysters, burrata & garlic parsley butter fries for our staters and then for the mains we had the Pan Roasted Half Chicken & Trio of Grilled Seafood with a side of broccolini. The food was fabulous. We cant wait to come back. Dietary restrictions: They were happily able to accommodate no butter for my main course.
Fantastic place! Not only do they have wonderful food, cocktails, and atmosphere, but they are active in growing the hospitality industry by hosting events like chef battles.
They kicked us out, politely, as soon as we finished eating. They gave us the check immediately after, and when we told the server we re still not leaving, he sent another server with the machine 10 minutes later. We had a three coarse meal and our bill was not in any way small. I think them kicking us out had to do with the fact that we are Muslim (one of us wore headscarf) and didn t order drinks. There were other people in the restaurant before we got there and were not asked to leave in any subtle way, they were still there when we were kicked out. They had a wine bottle at the table, maybe that s why. I would not recommend this place if you are not drinking, or maybe not at all. A definite no if you re looking for a nice evening, not a touch and go.
I would like to start off by saying that I was tremendously thrown away by my experience dining at Boehner, it was nothing short of spectacular. The location has a subtle front. Upon entering youre warmly greeted by the staff and offer to check your coats in which is very convenient and pleasant. The Lighting and seating arrangement is a very cozy, warming and welcoming feel. It was a touch of simplicity with elegance. Upon seating we were promptly greeted with the choice of sparkling or standard water. The waitress had let us know of the specials and that they are generally using the ingredients befitting the season. The menu is simple yet with many great options from appetizers to desserts and their drink selection was plentiful also. When the food was served the pleasant fact is that the front house had explained what the sauces were, their ingredients and how they were prepared which added to the amazing experience of each bite. The flavours all mixed very nicely, the freshness mixed with the plating really put a unique experience to our dinner. We unfortunately had a mishap with one of the orders, however the kitchen and the front house were more than accommodating and it ended up with a funny experience. The mistake was on the side of the waitress which she had acknowledged but we opted to take the order as to not inconvenience the staff but upon requesting the food back the waiter jokingly said that the chef is already enjoying the meal to which we looked over to the kitchen and saw the chef enjoying the meal. It was a great laugh for all. They ended up preparing another meal which was promptly served. The plating for all the dishes were very well done and the flavours again were exquisite especially paired with their lovely wine. Everything in regards to the food was done as requested with love and care by the remarkable kitchen staff and chefs. You can definitely see how hard they work and how happy they are preparing the food. During our dining experience, the front end house staff were up and above their A Game. I have never experienced such dedication to service and care for the customer. Our cutlery were swapped out even when unused during each course. Our table was constantly wiped down to ensure our clothes do not stain and they constantly filled our water and wine glasses. There was not a time during the evening where our glasses were empty. It was always filled and they had always constantly swapped bottles to ensure there was water present. This dedication at the same time committing to the other patrons in the restaurant, their tasks and serving food had definitely kept them on their feet and yet they were so very committed and put a smile each time. When one of party members table napkin cloth had fallen at the end of our service, the waitress picked it up and replaced it with another despite already finishing our courses. This kind of dedication to the customers and patrons is outstanding. A job well done to the front house and these particular staff who went up and beyond to make the experience amazing. I have yet to experience such a remarkable service even at places costing 3 times more. Over all, this restaurant had exceeded my expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful simplistic ambience paired with the amazing service unparalleled to any other I have yet to experience topped with the loving nature and mouth watering flavours of the fresh ingredients plated and served to perfection by the chef and staff. For the experience, I was very happy with the price and was very shocked at how reasonable their prices were especially after experiencing this tremendously, eye opening dinner. I will definitely be back with some friends so that they too can experience this remarkable restaurant. It is a shame that I did not request to meet with the chef as the food was spectacular. The party definitely enjoyed every bit of the experience and I thank you the front and back staff of Boehmer for an amazingly beautiful experience. Parking: Green p parking north of location on Ossington and dundas. Street parking on the side streets.
Had a frickin blast here last night. Myself and 3 friends came for the Tuesday $2 oysters and 50% off wine bottles special. Our server was Sean, who was DELIGHTFUL! He recommended the 2019 Muralia Manolibera which we enjoyed 4 bottles of. Other than the oysters we ordered the Beet Salad, the Charcuterie Board, the Broccolini, Fries, and my fave of the night the Beef Tartare. The Charcuterie was definitely a close second (the gravlax is a must try). To end the night we tried 3 desserts the Rocher, the La Fayette, and the Creme Brûlée. I loved all of them but if you like chocolate, I recommend the La Fayette. Sean was the cherry on top of a great meal. Thank you for the amazing service! I will be back soon!!!!
This is now my favorite restaurant. Food and service both amazing. Everything was perfect. Food : 5/5
A warm ambience welcomed us and a courteous host took our coats and as I gazed around noticed a nice natural glow to an oddly decorated, and uncrowded dining room. Specifically the large format photos of rock stars adorning the otherwise simple warm walls and naturally furnished room seemed totally out of place?! Service was attentive yet untrained to begin with, as a few staff took turns with us and menu knowledge seemed mediocre for such a menu. Our food was excellent I would describe as classical/french based with heavy butter based sauces and a slight lack of fresh veg, but really tasty and plentiful portions. A large downfall was that after our cocktails, 3 shared apps, and the wine service there was no food (mains) or service visible until after a half hour later when I asked politely about our food to their credit the food arrived soon after, and as noted was great. Fish was excellent and the Lamb also very good the steak perfectly cooked and chicken tender & tasty. Then there was an unfortunately bland dessert description, yet we still ordered 3 desserts and tea! Dessert was good not great. At that point our female server had to leave and a pleasant young man took over and we finished up and paid the bill. The restaurant was never more than 2/3 full on a Saturday night which was a little odd but we felt the downfall was on people skills, not food. ***3 drinks, 3 apps, 3 gl wine, 4 mains, 3 desserts & 1 tea 540$ with tip!! Food: 4 Service: 2.5 Atmosphere 3.5 Cleanliness: 4 Value: 3.5
Excellent fish entree of gindara black cod and riesling from Redstone Winery. Their hazelnut praline no-bake cheesecake is also rich and flavourful. They currently have covered patio seating but its advised to make reservations as there is limited seating.
What a terrific experience and wonderful dinner! The service and staff were exceptional and made for a memorable night. Thanks for taking such great care of us!
60$ Steak was clearly overcooked and was told I would wait 10 minutes for a new one after already waiting 10 minutes from sending it back. My table was finished their meals and no new steak has arrived. Chef then stood by their bad cooking and said steak was ok. Will never go back. Awful experience
Just had one of the best steaks I ever had in my life ! This place is absolutely 100% spectacular ! The drinks are awesome ! Try the one night in Bangkok! The Bavette steak is soo good!! Loved the place !
Had such a lovely dinner here tonight! The ambiance was very intimate despite all the tables being spaced a part. The food was excellent and the menu had many options this Saturday night. The menu on the main website only shows a few items, but there is definitely more than that! Shout out to the staff (front & kitchen) for the fantastic service and excellent food. I am looking forward to having many more experiences here!
Great wine list and delicious food!
French inspired atmosphere. Food is fantastic. service is great. Beef tartar is a must try
Pretty bad from years past
We went for our anniversary and the food was flawless! Highly recommend. The Bavette steaks were cooked to perfection
One of best meals I have had in Toronto
Great vibe and amazing food. My compliments to thr chef!!
You would be surprised with the pretty much nouvelle cuisine type dishes, great taste, very good service. Different. Creative. Tasty.
Nice place. Thank for your hospitality
Recently went here. The food, service, ambiance, were excellent. The servers provided excellent recommendations as well.
Where do I begin? I made the mistake of selecting Boehmer as the venue for my fiancés birthday. Our first interaction with the restaurant started off poorly, much to my disappointment. The gentleman handing reception was very brash in the way he spoke; when I handed him our cake he instantly said we charge $3 plating fee which I expected, but I found his lack of formality concerning, but I didnt think too much of it. A few minutes into us being seated, my friend brought some balloons. We were told that outside decor is not allowed, and that we cant have them in the restaurant and that we shouldve asked if balloons are allowed - as if this is common practice. Its understood that restaurants are used for celebratory dinners, and something like this can be easily avoided upon booking by being more proactive, for example: 1. Are you celebrating any special occasion? Please note that we dont allow any balloons (or as the manager so eloquently stated - outside decor) Regardless, I wouldnt have been so off-put within the first 10 minutes of my dinner if it wasnt for the this gentlemans condescending attitude when addressing the matter. We didnt argue, we just asked if we can place the balloon in the corner and be obliged. He then went back to his post and proceeded to shake his head and show great displeasure. Just to be clear, I dont have an issue with this policy, but I do take offense to the lack of foresight. Aside from the receptionists poor attitude and narcissistic behavior, the rest of the staff did help provide great service - our wine recommendations were excellent and our waitress was friendly and pleasant. However, thats the only real positives I can award this restaurant. Before I wrote this review, I looked up past reviews as noted this isnt the first time these concerns have been pointed out. Please read the rest of the negative reviews and youll see a recurring pattern: Condescending and pretentious GM Take a few minutes and read through some of his replies to peoples concerns on Yelp and you can decide for yourself if this establishment is worthy of your time and money.
Majority of food was bland. Fries were okay. Host was extremely unwelcoming... would not recommend wasting your money here.
Outstanding food ! Service was delightful and you must try the scallop ! Michael
Absolutely Phenomenal meal. Best EVER! Thanks Paul - Best Wishes for your continued success. Stay Well!
I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Staff was awesome. Gordon the manager was so on top of the restaurant and never waited for anything. Paul the chef and owner was second to none. I can tell you that the meal was one of the best I have ever had. Thanks to Paul, Gordon and the staff you guys are amazing.
This is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to, hands down! The steaks are.out of this world! Highly recommend coming to Boehmer when in Toronto! You will not be disappointed! Kudos to Chef Boehmer and his Staff!
Great restaurant. I attended with a large group on a busy Saturday night and yet the service was excellent. The waitress, Manager and Owner all went out the way to make us all feel welcome. Food was outstanding. I think we had a little of everything. Everyone left happy and with a full belly. Would recommend this place highly.
Artistry for the mouth, a dining experience fit for the Royals. Iron Chef Canada we are so lucky to have your amazing food! Can t wait to see what s next!
We got married at Boehmer in Summer 2019. We had a fantastic experience. Sarah, Gordon and the team were professional and responsive to all of our questions throughout the entire planning process. The big day went off without a hitch and all of our guests raved about the food and drinks. Thank you, Boehmer, for a great day!
Very condescending General Manager who knows nothing about customer service. So many other amazing places to eat on Ossington, go to Union or La Banane instead, anywhere but here.....don t waste your time or money.
I booked the private room on two occasions and had an amazing experience. I had Alex for both nights and she was perfect! Communicating with Sarah was a breeze and Gordon was very hospitable. I look forward to hosting more business dinners here soon. :)
Gr8 service, food, and I like the extended patio into the street
Best food. Best atmosphere. Best service. In all of Toronto. Full stop.
Visited recently and the new menu is divine - had the Pear and Arugula salad, Spicy cauliflower, Oysters, Mussels, Shrimp & Scallops, and the warm, homemade bread. Best food in the city, great service - favourite restaurant by far in a Toronto!
Nice spot, friendly staff and delicious braised beef cheeks!
Chef Bohmler is tallest Chef Ive met in my life. He is a big, tall and larger than most men on this earth. Having said this he is one of the most humble men Ive met. He and I are similar age and both have been around the block a couple of times. Some of you may know that he was a challenger on Iron Chef Canada and went head to head against my Uncle Susur Lee and beat him! My Uncle is no slouch and quite but fiercely competitive. It is Asian custom to bow to your elders as well as anyone your respect and Ive been bowing to Uncle since the early 90s when I first dined at Susur. Chef Bohmler I will going forward always bow to your sir! You have a great vibe and great venue. Your food obviously does not need my recommendation. Signing off for now, Yi Bum Sik aka Brian @iamyibumsik8
Rude staff. Would not recommend
I miss Tuesday nights at Boehmer! This place would normally be out of budget for me, but on Tuesdays you can get an incredibly fancy and delicious date night / special event / just because dinner for under $100 (two people). Still not cheap but amazing value and so worth it when you want a treat! My boyfriend and I get a dozen or so oysters, the lobster to share, the parmesan fries, and a green (usually the brussels sprouts or rapini). And of course a half-priced bottle of wine! They have a great rotating wine selection and (most of) the staff are quite knowledgable.
Dont go if you are bar hopping or are going for a quick bite. The worst experience I have had in Ossington. We were bar hopping nearby restaurants and had ice cream at bang bang, then our original plan was to go to oyster boys, but saw the oyster special sign from Boehmer, so decided to try it out. We went inside and the manager/the host gave us the impression that we are not welcomed at first sight. I asked him nicely if I could finish the rest of my waffle (from bang bang), he frowned and said uh.. nah.... I was almost done and didnt care to throw it away, but unlike I expected he didnt apologize, or told me he will throw away for me. He just walked away after leaving the menu on the table, so I had to stand there hanging, astonished what to do. Then when he turned back I asked him to throw it away. The manager never came back to us for check up or anything, even after when we told our server that we felt discomfort with him. Then the oyster. Our server seemed like a nice guy, however, he had to go to the kitchen to ask where they are oysters are from, even though their oysters were on special. We also had to remind him that its their special and there was a sign put up outside the restaurant. The oyster tasted fine but had a lot of grains/shells in it which we told the server after we are finished. Definitely not pro at shelling oysters. Conclusion: Wear/look formal to impress the manager. No oysters.
The manager seems like he is not even welcoming his customer and also seemed he does not want to work. When I was waitng to be seated, the manager does not say anything but just pointing at empty seat. No manager or server treat customers like that. If you are expecting good service, this is not the place you are looking for. Very bad impression.
Oysters were sooo good... love the GM, so hands on. Server was so sweet and helpful. Pricey but totally worth it..
Love this restaurant, regular favorite!
We have had a long-standing, wonderful relationship with Boehmer and the people behind it, which culminated in our wedding reception at the restaurant in February, 2019. There are not enough amazing things we can say about our experience. From the very first meeting, to the tastings, the ongoing patient and personal communication, the creativity, the incredible, delicious, hearty and perfect culinary feast for us and our guests, and the best dance party ever, we can t recommend Boehmer enough for anything ranging from a casual dinner, to the wedding you ll never forget.
Pretentious
Horrible service and food was mediocre for the prices we dished out. Server was inconvenienced by serving us and I heard him insulting other tables with the manager as they chuckled together. Disgusting service and bland atmosphere. Will definitely not go here again.
Nice food but the decor could be better
My (now) wife and I had our wedding at Boehmer, and my, we could not have made a better choice. In short, the food was delicious, the service warm and professional, the venue gorgeous, and the whole day was an absolute blast. Sarah, the events manager, was amazing and collaborated with us to make sure all our requests and ideas were realized. She was always prompt with her replies and stayed on top of everything during the leadup to our wedding, and made sure nothing fell through the cracks. We were moving cities AND planning a wedding at the same time, and thanks to Sarah, we came through with flying colours. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Rustic but modern, lots of wooden touches and warm lighting. We rented the place for the entire day, and basically it turned out to be the easiest dinner party weve ever thrown. The restaurant supplied everything, all we did was add in centrepieces. The service and the food go hand in hand - and both left our guests raving. Gordon, the General Manager, took us through a wine tasting during our tasting dinner and made sure we picked out some crowd pleasers, while the food was a homerun - for guests expecting the usual wedding fare, this will blow their minds. The serving staff, meanwhile, was incredibly attentive and professional. Perhaps its because we had a small (100) wedding compared to some of the banquet hall style ones weve been to, but the staff-to-guest ratio was superb, and it almost feels like youve gotten to know them by the end of the night since theyre all so personable (and, like I mentioned, its not like a banquet hall of hundreds and theyre all just a face in a crowd). So all in all, we had a blast at our wedding. Ate lots, drank lots, and partied with the people we love - all thanks to the wonderful team at Boehmer!
Always a great time at Boehmer! Friendly staff, great menu and deals. Find out the Tuesday specials...
Came for a birthday dinner with 7 others. Ordered drinks, appies and dinner. Everything we tried was tasty and presented well. The room for improvement area is the time between appy and dinner. It was almost an hour which felt too long. Atmosphere and vide are fun. And...not too loud!
Do not eat there. This place hires people for one day and makes promises and never end up paying the person for that day. They turned around and said that I should be thankful for the experience of working there. I was not the only this was done to.
Go on a Tuesday, order a bunch of oysters and good wine. Enjoy!
I always love trying new places to eat, knowing it will be hit or miss. Start to finish our dinner experience was amazing. We were welcomed with a very warm and friendly smile, and I fell in love with the decor and atmosphere - there was something familiar about the vibe. The menu offers up a unique variety of flavours and our dinner was absolutely delicious. The calamari was grilled to perfection and the pot pie special was incredible. Everything was fresh and flavourful. We ended our evening with a sinfully delicious maple creme brulee. We will definitely return!
Yummy cocktails with professional serving staff. I have always found new items on the menu
First, the decor is amazing. The restaurant is open plan all the way from the small seating area street side to the Kitchens. This restaurant must be well accustomed to larger group as the tables are massive and long. Attention to detail has not been spared in this place, everything from reception, bar, coat rack and rest rooms are very stylish. The bar is long and well stocked with an amazing wine list. We arrived at 5:00pm and so we had a short menu to pick from before 5:30pm when the full menu became available. I had a beet salad which was amazing. Great texture, taste and visual. For dinner I had a vegetarian pasta dish which equally as good.
Buck a shuck, half price wine bottles and a $25 lobster special... Tuesdays at Boehmer always deliver for a reasonable rate.
