John & Sons Oyster House is not trying to be eagerly trendy or particularly fancy, but frankly, we'd rather not be. Located in downtown Toronto, Ontario we offer a warm, east coast welcome and hope you stay for a while. We offer the freshest oysters and seafood, prepared with love and passion. Today, everywhere you look you see over-hyped restaurants that are pushing the next food fad. But us, we’re about being timeless, about staying classic, and we plan to keep going by making sure our passion and honesty is part of our hospitality. Always. This brings us our devoted friends, not just people looking for a popular hangout. The way to truly enjoy yourself is to bring a few companions, just let go and eat, drink and talk.
The food and staff are both great. I ordered oysters as an appetizer and the seafood pasta as my entree. The grand mariner cake for dessert. Everything was delicious. The staff were helpful in selecting a good sampling of oysters. I’d highly recommend.
Hands down some of the best food I have EVER eaten! I was in Toronto 3 nights and ate here twice, and wish I did all 3 nights. Everything was above expectations. For appetizers the smelts were good but the KFC calamari lettuce wrap were beyond words. The tuna BLT was incredible and pairs great with Canadian Riesling. I thought the scallops with chili spices and pumpkin purée was a genius combination. The atmosphere is good and Koko at the bar was very friendly and offers great service. It’s clear they pay attention to details. I look forward to going again and giving the oysters a try! I’m not sure why some reviews complain about the price and portions. This is honestly better than many Michelin star restaurants I’ve been to and plating is on par. If anything I would say the prices are too cheap and should be at least double or triple for the quality. I will definitely be making this my go to when in Toronto.
The seafood here is fresh and enjoyable. Overall, food is good quality and the oysters really hit the spot. Some of the portions are quite small, such as the octopus. The lobster rolls here are quite nice as well. I appreciated the service and the ambiance was very relaxing. A nice restaurant/bar visit in Toronto!
Wow! The ladies working serving at this restaurant are amazing. Today was a full house but they all kept their beautiful smiles and wonderful attitude of service at all times. Much appreciated attention to detail and professional work attitude for a wonderful date night. The lobster rolls and drinks were wonderful as well. We will be back!!
Great little restaurant/bar tucked away in a small side street. The servers were amazing and very attentive and organized. They were able to describe and recommend menu items to try. We tried every available oyster they had which ranged from $2.50 to $5. The grilled octopus was tender and well cooked. Drinks selection were abundant for a variety of tastes. It can get very loud in the restaurant but adds to the coziness of this establishment.
Went out for dinner with my sister - sat at the bar and we felt very taken care of by the server and bartender. Fresh oysters shucked right in front of us and more complex dishes made in the kitchen. We ordered several appetizers and a steak to share and everything tasted fresh and of the highest quality. Would absolutely return again but will reserve for special occasions as it is a little pricey.
Excellent dining experience. Went during off hours so no crowds. Everything was deliciously prepared. Service was excellent. Plentiful lobster meat in the lobster roll. Delicious octopus with nice size. Would definitely come again. As with anything, if the price isn’t written don’t be embarrassed to ask. Always enjoy Kumamoto Oysters but at $66 for a dozen maybe a bit on the pricey side but probably should be expected given where they are from and this being the financial district of Toronto.
I absolutely love this hidden gem in downtown Toronto. In my opinion, the lobster roll here is better than the one at St .Lawrence Marker. I love the oysters here as well. Make sure you reserve a spot otherwise it's hard to do walk-ins at busy hours (even on weekdays). This place is a little pricey and always packed with business people wearing suits, grabbing a drink on weekdays after work. I recommend sharing the lobster roll with your date (just ask them to cut it in half) as you can see from my picture they are quite a portion. If you want to save some appetite for oysters and other stuff, sharing is definitely a wise choice. The service here is good enough. The only problem is this place is always so busy that it might take long for you to grab their attention. If you want to add some oysters in the middle, you might have to wait 20+ minutes as there is likely a queue of oysters waiting to be opened until it's your turn. 😂
Such a lovely place! Always glad to go!
Love this pub!
Everything is great here.
Incredible food, incredible service. Absolutely top-notch.
Fantastic spot! Small and informal. Great staff and food.
Great selection of oysters and seafood all prepared wonderfully. The fish and chips is excellent. Great atmosphere and excellent service and staff. Highly recommended!!
Amazing layout, very cozy, the dude who works there, cant remember his name but he talks fast, shucks oysters and wears a cool hat - he added so much to the atmosphere, really a cool spot. Great time there felt like I was in a different city. He really loved his job which made everything, to paraphrase him the worst day here beats the best day in an office somewhere Workers like that need to be protected at all costs . Great spot
We were looking for seafood downtown Toronto and found this gem. Simply spectacular! Food is so good, service is friendly and efficient, and atmosphere is absolutely the best. Great selection of seafood and wines. Definitely worth a visit. And I ll come back for sure!
Cool place to grab a drink and food after work. Service is great. It s small so make a reso.
Great little spot for oysters and all things seafood! The staff was over the top amazing and went out of their way to make sure our dinner was exactly what we were looking for Highly recommend! Food
Two of us went there after work. Had some beers, appetizers and main course. The oyster selection were east coast only. I tried a few, they were fresh and shucked well. Dinner was good but not spectacular. Service was friendly and efficient.
Excellent service. Decent oyster selection. All-around good experience.
I ordered octopus, seafood linguine and warm lobster rolls. Everything was perfect, the octopus was cooked really nice, the sauce of the seafood linguine was excellent! I had a really really good experience and thank you for all your efforts! I really appreciate it!
Delicious oysters and quick service!
Food is perfect, service is amazing, and perfect atmosphere and spot
Bombdiggity oysters. And smelts. Good beers and apps. Cant vouch for anything else.
Why havent we found this place yet. We love oysters, we love seafood, why? This place was incredible. The oysters were on point. The tuna tartare was perfect. Fresh little chip things. Texture and flavor was amazing. The KFC calamari butter lettuce cups were insane. You have to get these. Then we went with the fish and chips. It was perfect. Not too greasy, flakey delicious fish. Perfect. Even the little slaw with dill was a nice pallet cleanser. It was wonderful. We will definitely be back soon to try the other foods they have to offer. Oh and the service, the fellow that helped us was amazing. Personable, knowledgeable, and just wonderful. Great service. I cant complain. This is one of those restaurants in the city that you have to go regularly. Ahh why are they closed today (Sunday). Id go back today if they were open. :(
Found this place on google, wasn t sure if it will be up to my expectations but it exceeded by far. Amazing, exceptional, extraordinary are few of the words that can describe this place. Starting with warm welcome from the bartenders RYAN & CHRIS to the extraordinary service and the outstanding food we got. Oysters are chugged right in front of you on the bar with many options to choose from, Octopus was wonderful within a flavorful mix Smelts are different but the seafood linguine was wow the pasta was aldente and super flavorful now I m back again for more oysters and other choices Ashley and Seron are or bartenders for tonight and they are wonderful Definitely coming back if we ever visit Toronto in the future DONT MISSOUT ON THIS SPOT
Great atmosphere, great food & friendly people!
A great place! Excellent choice of fresh pursuers. They had 2 options from PEI, New Brunswick and WDC. Our preference was the Kumamoto oysters from Washington. We shared appetizers: tuna tartar, oysters, smelts, octopus and lobster poutine. Everything we had tasted great and fresh!
A gorgeous hipster vibe with delicious food!
A wonderful little restaurant. The waitresses are absolutely magical. See, very friendly. The food is very tasty. We had local, assorted oysters and a lobster poutine. Simply good!
Awesome customer service. Excellent food!!
The best seafood I have ever had in Toronto especially if you love raw oysters. We had a group of 14 people for a wedding reception and pretty much tried everything on the menu and all of it was great and cooked to perfection. All the seafood we tried was fresh and excellent quality and even the salads served with it were delicious. The entire staff were incredibly friendly and the service was excellent. I know the bride and groom really appreciated everything the staff did to make it a special occasion. We will definitely go back.
Its good to eat oysters. White wine and oysters really match. Grilled Octopus 4.5/5 Oysters 5/5 soooooo good! Seafood Linguine 3/5 Crispy Fish & Chips 4/5 Key Lime Pie 3/5 toooo sweet
Intimate spot! Nice food and great service.
Tried Fish and Chips. Great choice. Will try other items.
Tucked away on a small side street youd miss if you werent looking for it. Great oysters, and the cold lobster roll was delish. Dont be fooled by the small size when it is served to you - its decadent and full of lobster. My tip is this a great spot if you like unpretencious quality seafood.
I was craving for oysters and we spontaneously went here with our Baby boy. Was a bit nervous if this was the right place to go with him. We ve been treated so wonderful and the chef made him delicious babyfood, too. Oysters were super tasty and the service and atmosphere were great. Would come here again if we had more time in the city! Totally recommend it!
Pretty average food. The octopus however, had a great blend of spices that felt quite Indian - it was pleasurable
Unpretentious place that does their food very well. Oysters are great and reasonably priced as well as their mains.
My girlfriend & I dropped in here on a whim before a show at Massey Hall not too long ago and the food was fantastic. Had the fish n chips, 10 out of 10. Cool little spot hidden away from the busier areas. Highly recommend
Fresh oyster with neat atmosphere
Dropped in on my last day in Toronto and this place did not disappoint! Oysters were amazing, great wine and the Tuna+octopus plate recommendations from the staff were spot on! Bourbon Banana bread dessert was a great final touch. Thanks John & Sons Oyster House!! Please like this review if it helped! Thanks
Oyster is good!
Pretty average oysters at very reasonable prices. If you re having a craving this is definitely a good place to go. I would avoid the non oyster dishes. I had the tuna tartare and the portion was tiny
Wonderful food loved it
FOOD: oysters is decent but main courses are failure, they completely forgot one of our dish. Oysters: I tried every BC & PEI oysters on the menu, some of them are good and some are just ok. Warm Lobster Roll: not bad but not that good either, not so much lobster in there and its dry. Crispy Fish and Chips: the fish is mushy inside and not very crispy outside, very disappointing. SERVICE: beside forgetting one course in my order, the service was decent. Later on the server sit down at the bar and starting eating which doesnt seem very professional. VIBE: classic seafood restaurant by the water vibe, nice decoration.
Best seafood restaurant in Toronto! The seafood is 10/10, every dish was fresh and done so well, atmosphere is relaxed, and John s the man!
A friend and I went in for dinner on a Friday, and it was one of the best dining experiences I ve ever had. The staff were so lovely and knowledgeable, one of them gave us an oyster shucking demonstration, and were calm and had the space to chat with us and each other, no stress or chaos that we could see. The food was incredible - we got 2 rounds of oysters paired with some scotch, then shared the scallop and tuna BLT dishes, then the keylime pie and pumpkin maple cake - would recommend them all. We so look forward to coming back and trying more of the menu!
We sat at the bar and service directly from the bartender who was very charismatic. We ordered a Guinness and dirty martini to start which was very good. We ended up splitting a few dishes. We had the clam chowder: it was good, but I didn t really like carrots in it and found it very light on clams, only a few small pieces of clams. Oysters are served with fresh grated (right in front of you) horseraddish and multiple hot sauces - try the habanero. And lobster roll - we had the cold (other option is hot). It was so good and full of lobster. Highly recommend.
Very good oysters! Fish n chips also good! Lack of servers! Only 1.5 person for whole restaurant.
Wow! Host on phone was awesome.. Bartender and server are awesome. Oysters and curry mussels are best Ive had. Oyster knowledge off the charts. Fun and delicious.. also good Bourbon. Food
Tucked away on Temperance Street its a great little spot for seafood and drinks. Had the warm lobster roll which was okay. Good chunks of meat and presented well. Overall great atmosphere and friendly service.
Go here. Fantastic food, amazing staff. Hidden diamond. Equally great for a business lunch or special dinner.
Oysters with spicy sauce is extremely spicy, but I love it!! It s very special experience
Great, fresh oysters. Good wine list. Definitely recommend
Key lime pie is what I remember the most and it was amazing.
Incredible experience! Went here with my twin sister for our birthday. The food was delicious and the presentation was absolutely stunning. We had the chowder, scallops, tuna and oysters and were so impressed with the variety of flavours and palatable freshness. The service by Sorin and Ryan was thoughtful, professional, and friendly. They went above and beyond with each dish. Everything was so well done, would 100% come back and refer to friends! Thank you.
This place is exceptional. Hands down, best oysters I have ever had in my life and everyone else at my table said the same. Lobster poutine was delicious and the fish and chips were incredible. Great service. Perfect meal. Not one negative thing to say about this restaurant.
Very good food.
Ordered lobster poutines. Overrated for the quality. Fries are extremely oily, may go well with those drinking alcohol, but it was not for me.
Great service.
Great service and decent food. Had fresh raw oysters and curry mussels. Taste good!
Great seafood, great service, great atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Very tasty food, the ambience is beautiful and the servers are very friendly. I ordered a dozen oysters and let the server choose which one would be best for us. She ended up giving us a breakdown of where they were from as well as how to eat them according to brinyness. They did take sometime to get the risotto out but when it came it was fresh and fantastic.
Love the oysters, Cioppono was very good and the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream topped it all off.. totally underrated place which you should go.
A warm and Intimate space Excellent service and food We ll definitely be back
Oysters were amazing. Fresh, perfectly shucked, really good homemade sauces. One of the best places in the city for oysters. Lobster roll was delicious and the house fries are REALLY good as well. Service was also excellent. Will definitely be back and highly recommend!
Love sitting at the bar and watching the action! Amazing energy, service was great. Ive tried many things on the menu and havent been disappointed. Definitely recommend a reservation!
My new favorite seafood restaurant! Topnotch quality of food and service! We had the lobster poutine and oyster to start and the tuna and surf & turf special for our main course. Every bite was scrumptious! Looking forward to coming back
Good food. Good people
Oysters from Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. Ryan our server was great. He perfectly described the taste of each kind.
Delicious food with great variety, very friendly and accommodating staff.
Small but yummy
Food quite good. Burger is small but good. Service is quite weak.
Oysters are fresh fresh fresh!
Everything is wonderful. The food is excellent. Quaint place in the city. Beautiful ambience.
Food is good, but the service is not quite so well. It is one of my friend s birthday and we only asked for like 2 pictures, but one of the servers told us this s not a photo studio, we shouldn t keep asking them to take pictures We understand they are busy, but it s just two pictures plus we paid for 20% tip, this is not how we should be treated
Worst service I have ever experienced, watch for the Asian old chubby waitress, after tips, she wont give u any service. Im an Asian too, that kind of bad service shouldnt exist, she doesnt want to help us to take a photo and keep complaint that there is not a photo booth. That day is one of our last days in Toronto, what a wonderful waitress!
Just WOW!!!!!!!! Get the seafood tower, it s a work of art. Dietary restrictions: Great gluten free options
Just really good oysters. Had two from PEI and they were chucked right in front of me which added to the freshness. The Thai curry mussels were delicious. The French fries that makes you sad when theyre gone.
Delicious oysters! We sat at the bar and asked for oyster recommendations. He did not disappoint!
Im definitely biased to anywhere that does seafood like this, but the visit was top notch. First time there, and Ill need to find an excuse to go back soon. Not cheap, but oysters, seafood platter, and cocktails were worthwhile. Great group of people working there.
Amazing oysters!!! Great selection from both East and West coast oysters. Staff were so friendly and the oysters were shucked very well. Highly recommended!
The food tasted great but I felt like the portions were small with the risotto. They didn t have cocktails but a nice large selection of wine. Overall it was ok.
Great food and service! Cant ask for much more!
Randomly walked in and was immediately met with a smile and a greeting. I had a great spot at the bar and really enjoyed the bar vibe. I had the lobster roll with fries and salad--a smart option from the bartender! Food was really good, and the Guinness pour was spot on. Overall I really liked this place and will be back soon.
Is this best Oyster house in the city? Absolutely. With a menu that goes beyond oysters this is a great spot. Options for those that arent into seafood are available featuring a ridiculously good burger and solid steak frites. Great service rounds out this hidden gem!
Great place for lunch. I absolutely love their clam chowder a small bowl including bread is only $12 . All the wait staff are friendly and efficient. Fresh oysters are awesome lots of variety and very fresh.
First time here and was not disappointed- food and drinks were great and so was service
Food was excellent and was well worth it. The oysters, tuna, and lobster poutine was delicious. The clam chowder is a little watery for me but still very tasty. Lobster roll and fish and chips were great too. Very friendly service.
Delicious food, fun atmosphere and ice cold water!
Grabbed lunch with friend their on weekdays, was very busy. But not really a place for food Tuna was one of their recommended, but was kinda disappointed by the deep fried tomatoes in between and mundane tuna op top. Friend tried Lobster Roll and said was okay. A chill place for grab a drink probably, but not really for food unfortunately.
Great little spot off the main drag. At the suggestion of my Canadian colleague tried a Caesar shot, if youre into that this is a good place to get one. Lobster poutine was amazing! Would definitely recommend a visit.
What a great place and had the most fantastic server. Oysters and then steak and fries was amazing. Would highly recommend and will defiantly be back
Delicious oysters from different parts of Canada from British Columbia to Newfoundland, with plenty of choices on what one can add to them (the scotch bonnet pepper-based sauce was my favourite). We got the scallops, which was beautifully caramelised and flavourful and the risotto for our mains. Both the risotto and the scallops were absolutely delicious. Their sticky toffee pudding was very indulgent too. As visitors from Ireland, we appreciated the very welcoming vibe here (love the octopus wall art!). John and Sons Oyster house right in the heart of Toronto is a real gem.
Ordered oysters, clam chowder, lobster roll, and mussels, and everything was absolutely amazing! Highly recommend!
The food here tastes great. They have a good variety of food besides seafood for those who want to eat something else. Its a small restaurant, so it gets very loud when its full. Service was a bit slow due to limited staff (only 3 servers) for the entire restaurant.
We went here for Oysters and loved the vibe of this restaurant. Ryan and Coco were working and both went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. From trying scotch, interesting and new cocktail choices to the amazing bread and butter ( with warm olives) ordered with the tuna tartar, it was all amazing. AND the oysters!! We did a round of 12 and then 6 of our faves. We even got to try them with Ryans secret choice of topings which is now our favorite. Music was wonderful and fun. Thanks so much guys for a great dining experience! Lisa & John
Excellent service, outstanding menu, absolutely a great oyster bar.
Food was very tasty. Service was not great though, we kept having to call someone over to take our order and they weren t pleasant or very helpful. Atmosphere was extremely loud
We enjoyed our food, with oysters to start and Lobster Roll and Thai Curry Mussels. Unfortunately, the atmosphere/ambience was ruined by a large birthday party (Happy 50th!) that the restaurant had booked. The space is really small, and isnt really set up for booking a stand up cocktail party. The party-goers were just standing in the aisle between the tables, with one group standing about a foot away from us, and yelling loudly to be heard over the rest of the party.
Can be a bit loud, but what do you expect from the financial district? good selection of oysters, the KFC (C for calamari) was yummy, Id skip the fish tacos, and next time Im gonna do the steak frites cuz a nearby table had it and it looked great! Also that hot sauce is bomb!
Very lively for a lunch. The lobster roll was delicious, and the service was very attentive.
This was an amazing place!
Love this place! The oysters are really fresh and the customer service is amazing. The grilled octopus and the seared yellowfin tuna- the best you will ever have!
Amazing seafood restaurant!!
4.5/5 Another great meal here. The staff are always pleasant and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. It s become one of our favourite places in the downtown core. We recently tried the Tuna and Seafood Linguine. Both great choices! We felt the portion of tuna was a bit small to justify the price but otherwise, a tasty dish. The linguine was simple yet delicious with ample meaty seafood on top. Yum. We ll be back! Review from Nov 2022 Great place to visit after a long day at the office. The ambiance is warm and relaxing. The food was tasty. Good use of spices and herbs. Yum! The servers were attentive and pleasant. Would definitely return!
Best Fresh food, staff and atmosphere in the financial district and Toronto. There s great places near by, but when you pair the fresh seafood with great selections of wine, beer of sparkling wine the experience doesn t get any better. The staff by far make this place super special as if they recommend a special or a specific item on menu, listen and order. Special of the day always something new. Chef is experimental and food is always delicious! I d give more than 5 stars if I could. Cheers!
Great food and great service. Highly recommended. All dishes we tried were nice, especially French fries.
Absolutely loved this restaurant. The service was excellent. They were able to answer our questions about the oysters available and gave great recommendations. We loved our food. I will definitely be back!
Food is great Place is really nice They need more servers at lunch Food : 5/5
Quaint restaurant that has amazing food! I ve been here several times and the consistency is amazing. The service can be slow but the food is worth it.
Awesome seafood restaurant, Very good and fresh oysters, But average lobster roll . Recommended!
The scallops were perfectly made. I cant recall last time I had such nice scallops.
Awesome you will not be disappointed. Just go!! Great service great vibe. Food : 5/5
Incredible selection of oysters from across Canada if thats what youre looking for.
The black girl server was very unfriendly and her service was very bad
Made a reservation here for 7:30 on Saturday Nov 2023. The place was half full. We got 18 oysters and a couple drinks. The oysters were the smallest I ve ever seen. They were like comically small. The service took forever. If I hadn t flag downed the server they would ve forgot I was there. we didn t even bother ordering mains and just asked for the bill. Oh and when the bill came I reluctantly tipped and it was over $140 for basically nothing. I felt like I had been robbed. Just go to Rodney s if you want oysters. This was the worst dining experiencing I ve ever had in my life and I ve never reviewed anything before, however I feel like have to warn people as dining become increasingly expensive our date night as a newly married couple was ruined.
Best fish and chips in Toronto. Super crispy and a full fish, not the over battered you see in other places. Variety of oysters, on the pricier side for oysters (4$ a piece) but I guess that s just inflation. Staff is extremely accommodating and friendly. Will go back !
Best Fish and Chips in Toronto. While they have a lot of seafood options to choose from, the fish and chips are a must if you come here. I have had fish and chips at numerous restaurants across the city and can easily say this is the best by far. The fish is lightly battered and is not greasy. Moreover, the two pieces of fish are huge and meaty unlike a lot of places which has too much batter. The fries were also delicious and the coleslaw was great. We were seated at the bar as tables are limited due to the size of the establishment. Overall, a must try for people who like fish and chips. Just make sure you call in advance to make a reservation if you want to be seated at a table.
Great variety of different types of oysters that are shucked infront of you. The wine selection is great and staff is knowledgeable on pairing. Great location as well. 10/10
Came here for our anniversary. Amazing fresh food, awesome and friendly owner, no other restaurant like it downtown. A touch expensive but very reasonably priced given the quality and type of food. Definitely recommend!
Great food and great ambiance! Beautiful place. Scallops were delicious and also was the key lime pie. BUT no smile from any of the servers sad. It would have been nice.
Even the manager was kind and helpful but I must say the two female servers service was terrible
Came in for a birthday dinner. I was so pleased with such a friendly service, excellent food and cozy atmosphere. The octopus and key lime pie are must try! Food
Love me some oysters.
This restaurant let us book a reservation online, texted me twice - once to confirm the day before and another time 30 minutes before the day of to remind me of my reservation. My partner and I arrived just to find it closed. Huge waste of time getting ready for what was supposed to be a special dinner. And at no point was I informed the restaurant would be closed. Please close down your booking system if you are going to be closed without warning.
Been here many times over the years, the service and food has always been great. Its my little hidden gem in the financial district
You can t get a better dining experience. Food is great. Oysters are fresh. Staff is like family. Can t miss!
Excellent food, very expensive
Delicious and fresh food
Great food. Great Vibes. Staff was awesome. Oysters were fresh and delicious. Definitely will be back.
Came here with a friend last week to catch up, ordered the Lobster Roll. Great service, staff are very helpful and friendly
Great oysters selection and seafood in general. The fried smelts are flavourful and spicy, a must have. Very busy during peak hours.
Cozy, casual yet elevated seafood place. My booking using Google map s reservation booking, Resy, did not show up, yet we were able to get a table at that time. The food was delicious. My lobster roll was quite tasty. The oysters were fresh. Service and staff were great. The key lime pie was good but very cold in the centre. I will come back again to try the other menu items.
This restaurant already be my top 5 in GTA. Our dinner experience was fantastic from start to finish. Our servers were very attentive and took great care of us. 100% will return.
The oysters were decent, but the seafood linguine was an unexpected standout.
Very good cuisine, the shellfish and meat are of superior quality. The homemade mayonnaise and fries are super good too. Warm welcome but a little noisy room. We recommend without hesitation
Stopped in right at the end of their serving time but the Oyster guy happily got his tools back out to make us a big plate full of BC Oysters!
Great Service and the food was top notch Fresh Oysters! And you have to try the Lobster Poutine
Excellent seafood. Lots of choices on the menu. Good wine selection. Friendly staff. Great selection of oysters. Definitely will return
Went for a birthday dinner before a show for my partner who loves seafood and oysters. He said they were the best oysters and red snapper hes ever had. Im not a seafood/fish person but my meal was also delicious and the key lime pie was superb. Service was wonderful and we will definitely be going back and be recommending this place to our friends. Thanks for being part of a great night!
Delicious seafood, great service and fantastic music :)
Absolutely fantastic food and service! We ordered both lobster roll and the special of the day - which was absolutely amazing! One of the best meals I ve had in ages! To top the experience off, the waitress Kuku was absolutely amazing - a real credit to the restaurant!!
Horrible management. We re transiting in Toronto for 2 hours. Saw on Google maps that they re open. We go through the trouble of traveling from the airport to the restaurant only to find them closed at 12:30 in the afternoon. Wish there was a responsible manager that updates their Google listing. Would have saved us cost of taxi and a very valuable hour that was wasted to get there and to find another spot to eat. Very frustrating.
Date night for dinner and a show and John & Sons did not disappoint. Well worth the visit. Tamila was a great host and made our visit very enjoyable. She selected out oysters and we shared fish and chips with a keylime pie to finish. I recommend it all! Thanks again Tamila! Some have pointed out a pricey menu but we got what we paid for which was great food, a great experience and even greater company.
The atmosphere was amazing! We sat in a corner booth but next time I really want to sit at the bar it looked like such a vibe. The oysters were good, but I think the best part of the meal was the key lime pie for dessert... best pie Ive ever had. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because we arrived for our 8pm reservation and there was no table available for us. We stood in the doorway for 15 minutes waiting for our table and then waited another 10 minutes before any server came up to us.
This hidden gem is a must visit! John, Ryan and staff are the best and helpful. The food is fresh and perfectly cooked.
Wonderful service and the sea food - amazing- thank you for such a great meal
Kahri was a great server and very knowledgeable. Super friendly, would definitely recommend to anybody
I love this place sooooo much! Dont forget to have dessert
As a very picky reviewer, I have no second thoughts in giving this place 5 stars, would give even more if I could. When we came in as a party of 3, and saw the place packed, we assumed we couldn t get any seats. However, they were able to accommodate us at the bar, and made sure we didn t feel left out compared to the tables. This is where the level of service comes in. The service here is amazing. Everyone is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. You don t feel guilty asking them questions, and they answer every question with detail and a smile. We ordered the Tuna Tartare, Fish and Chips, Seafood Linguine, and the burger, along with some oysters. All of the foods came in a timely and organized manner. The tuna tartare was first, which was great. This was followed by the best east and west coast oysters I ve had in Toronto by far. Very creamy, and flavourful. These were all followed by our main dishes mentioned above. The fish and chips were simply great! However the stars were the pasta and burger. The seafood pasta was one of the best pastas I ve had overall, the flavour balance was amazing. But the most pleasantly surprising was the burger: couldn t believe they were hiding one of the top 3 burgers I ve had right here in an oyster bar. The burger is much recommended, and absolutely amazing! We will definitely be back for more! 5 stars, no regrets!
Good services, detailed explanation and good recommendations for oysters. Will come back again
Stopped by for an impromptu business lunch and had the pleasure of sitting at the bar and being served by Ryan. I would give 5 stars just for Ryans exceptional service, and i haven t even gotten to the amazing food. Exceptional service, amazing food, tied in with a cozy intimate atmosphere make this spot a must go.
Small restaurant on a side street in busy downtown core. Nice selection of oysters, from east and west coast. Cozy interior. Happy hour deals with oysters and drinks. Fresh and one of the better lobster rolls in Toronto. Great tuna main dish. Although I had a bad experience with the staff, I honestly found everyone extremely rude and inpatient. It was hard to get attention to be able to order another glass of wine or anything. Anytime I asked a question, I was made to feel stupid and uncomfortable. Although the food is great, I love my oysters, but when the staff make you feel uncomfortable it ruins your experience... I dont know if I will be going back anytime soon.
Great service and delicious food!
Wonderful staff. Superb food. What more can you ask for?
Plenty of seating with great ambiance. The oysters came fresh and very quickly after ordering. The staff knew their stuff. I also got the scallops and it was both light and delicious! Perfect if youre not super hungry and just want to fill your stomach a bit. Their Caesars were pretty good too. Also had their lobster poutine and it was very fresh and tasty. My friend got their fish and chips and the fish tasted so fresh too. Highly recommended.
Charming venue and decor. We sat in one of the comfy booths by the window. Service was pleasant. Oysters and tacos were a hit for us. Oysters were served with several homemade accompaniments. Would be interested to try the lobster roll and poutine next time!
Really good food and service!
Great food in general, and seafood in particular. Went for lunch with friends, had the oysters (very fresh, get the west coast ones, they are plumper), the fish tacos, the scallops and the daily special, blackened fish sandwich - all were excellent. And the fries are to die for. Prices are above average, but appropriate for the quality of the food. Go for a special occasion, it is worth it.
Great vibe in the establishment. Foods good and the music is great too
Fresh and delicious, staff was amazing. Great caesars! Had the lobster roll and oysters.
Smelly rotten oysters. Theyre old. They sell it, you buy it.
Servers were really nice. Happy hour oysters were delicious and lobster poutine was so good.
visiting from out of town. Decided to try this off the main drag restaurant....Fantastic place for oysters and any type of seafood.... Enjoy.
Since I ve been raving about this place, I thought I might as well drop a google review just to express how much I loved the experience , food and service * chefs kiss*. What a hidden gem!!! My boyfriend brought me here for my birthday dinner and I m hoping we start a new tradition. We ordered oysters ( one from each province-there were over 7 different types!) tuna blt (Seared yellowfin BLT, maple-miso glazed pancetta, panko fried green tomato, orange soy vinaigrette, edamame) and the Octopus(Grilled Tunisian style octopus, harissa, caramelized cauliflower florets and puree, pickled red onion) both 10/10. They also brought me a birthday shot on the house Can t wait to come back, you guys just gained a regular!
What a gem! Hubby and I stopped by for dinner last night and cannot wait to visit again. Food was outstanding! Great selection of oysters, seafood and other options. Highly recommend a spot at the bar to watch the staff in action.
The oysters were obviously incredible, but further to that, their fish and chips were (without a doubt) the best I have ever had. The breading was tremendously flavorful and the fish was just perfect. I would highly, highly recommend!
Cute little spot decent oyster selection but a little pricey
Never disappointed with the food here, great service too
Best oyster
Great food. This place gets busy and loud, but the food is superb.
Long time patron! Food and service has always been great
I grabbed a quick lunch here with a friend and the service was excellent. I got a Caesar that was excellent. For food we picked oysters (shout out to the fanny boy oysters), shrimp cocktail, tuna tartare, the lobster roll and fish tacos. Everything was delicious, fresh and the portion sizes were great.
Varied menu but no catch of the day on a Saturday evening for dinner, limited oyster selections and the mussels pasta dish ( can t remember the name) was a bit too pungent with the spices. All in all decent time
Great food and friendly service!! Tried this place out in hopes of getting a taste of all the lobster rolls in Toronto..this was our first stop and it did not disappoint!!
Fun place!
This place is awesome! Wonderfully warm service, with a tasty and unintimidating menu. Everyone makes you feel like a regular by the time you finish your first meal. The food is simple, fresh, and extremely flavorful. Absolute gem!
Oysters oysters oysters!! You cant go wrong when deciding to dine here. Nice ambience, great food at a reasonable price (lobster roll was delish for just under $30) and friendly service. A must go before games
