Pizzeria Via Mercanti is a small family operated Restaurant! With over 40 years in the restaurant business and 30+years as a Pizzaiolo; Romolo Known as the “Grand Master “ of the Margherita Pizza, finally opened up his place in January 2012. The restaurants specializes in Neopolitan style pizza, however, they do offer house made pastas; paninos; antipasti and dessert! They have become recognized as one of the top eateries in Toronto. They have topped the charts for number one pizza, ranked on Joanne Kate’s top 100 restaurants , won Best in Chow’s hit show “Pizza Wars” , as well been featured on the Food Networks “You Gotta Eat Here! Pizzeria Via Mercanti were awarded BEST PIZZA IN ONTARIO from ICCO Unico Primo Pentola D'oro Awards 2018.
Ate lunch today with my cousins. The food was great, the servers were polite and professional. We did not feel rushed to eat and leave nor were we pressured to get drinks or desserts. A light-hearted impromptu moment occurred while the next table beside us was being served their food. Our server and another server was carrying all of that table's orders. The server called in to assist the main server accidentally turned to serve us their plate but we pleasantly re-directed her to the other table. That server was embarrassed but it was all in good fun since miscommunications happen. After properly serving the plate she turned to me and I just gave her the "ok" hand symbol. She reciprocated with her "ok" hand symbol and smiled pleasantly. Basically these little social, impromptu interactions is what makes an activity more memorable, enjoyable and basically personable. I will deduce that she is allowed to have these light moments with patrons because she feels comfortable and relaxed in her job. That comes from management and is a reflection of the entire restaurant (for good or for bad). For me, at this moment, at that time, it is good. I would most certainly come again. The food was "lights out"! So good, the gnocchi quattro sauce was creamy, the gnocchi itself was firm and forgiving, the lasagna tomato sauce was a good balance of tarty and sweet flavours, the pizza was flavourable with crispy crusts (wood stove oven!) and our main meat was so tender! Thank you for capping off a fantastic time with my cousins with a great meal to share!
One of the best Italian restaurants downtown! We really liked their Arancino di Riso, nice and crispy on the outside and cheesy inside. Their meatballs were great as well, the tomato sauce is delicious. Highly recommend their Romolo's pizza, you get the best of both sides.
Ordered the ciambella ripiena and had a bite of the bambino. The ciambella ripiena was undercooked. Dough was chewy. Cheese was yummy but could’ve used a little bit more heat to melt it some more. Pepperoni on the bambino was undercooked. Fries had a weird aftertaste. As if they fried it with oil that was used to deep fry something else. Server was hospitable but not stellar. Saw the bambino was only half eaten and we did not request for a box and did not inquire if there was anything wrong with it.
Good crust on the Diavola, but below average overall compared to other restaurants in Toronto. Was with a group of 10 and service was slow and inattentive, especially with the baked-in 20% gratuity. Took forever to get the bills on a Monday evening.
We had a great Margarita pizza! The dough was amazing! A little more sauce would have been nice. Pizza came fast. The only downside was the washrooms were quite dirty
I asked the waitress if she could recommend any dishes without tomatoes because I am allergic to it. I followed her instructions and guess what, I got a plate of pasta full of tomatoes🤣 Then when I complained it to her, she said I should read the menu carefully next time because she ‘ won’t be able to remember everything’.
Food and pizza were great, thin crust, chewy, the only thing was that the toppings fell off the slice. It’s more of a knife and fork type style of eating pizza, however the flavours were delicious.
Being from New Jersey, I know good pizza. But this place, this was shocked me. Who would have ever thought such good pizza would be found way up in Toronto!? The pizza was made in a wood burning oven, and it was very flavorful. We also ordered rice balls and they were awesome as well. My only gripe was the pizza was a bit small. The prices are what you would expect in a city area. The service was excellent and very friendly and welcoming.
I had high hopes but unfortunately this was single handedly the worst Italian Pizza I ve ever had. As an Italian I can t even understand how they market it as such let alone serve it and I hope people don t consider this to be what real Italian pizza is like. Where to start: - Pizza was ice cold (probably delivery s fault - Pizza was BURNT and not just those coveted charred spots, I mean burnt. - The crust, oh my. The crust was so thick it was like bread that didn t rise. It was like the pizza was surrounded by a thick, chewy, burnt dough ball. The polar opposite of what a nice airy crust should have been. The tiramisu was 15$ and fit in the palm of my hand but at least it was good.
I have dined at this restaurant on several occasions and consistently enjoyed my experiences. Unfortunately, after my most recent visit this past Sunday, I am certain I will never return. Although the antipasto and bufalina pizza were, as always, quite flavorful, the real trouble began the following morning. I awoke violently ill, enduring relentless bouts of vomiting throughout the entire day an extreme case of food poisoning unlike any I have ever suffered before. For both Monday and Tuesday, I found myself confined to the bathroom, unable to tolerate any sustenance until Wednesday. Only today, after speaking with the friends who shared that meal and learned they had fallen similarly ill, have I fully realized that this restaurant was indeed the source of our collective misery. This was once one of our most cherished culinary havens in all of Toronto, yet after such a devastating and unforgettable ordeal, I will not be returning.
Very good , personal size pizza. Not too big , not too small. Perfect
Amazing pizza, really tasty and delicious. Crust was amazing. Loved the ambiance.
it took way to long for food to get here we pre ordered it and its been 2 hrs save yourself some time and dont come here
Just don t ever order their gnocchi, it was horrible and the service made it even worse
Got their specialty pizza. The dough was chewy and sooo good. The toppings and cheese blended together so well. The pizza is thin dough.
We love Stefano!!!!!! Give him a raise
We love this place! Best pizza, good service and friendly atmosphere.
I had a very unpleasant experience at Viamercanti. First the server didnt greet us with a friendly attitude, i understand it could be stressful, I told the server I was not expecting all the food coming at once, him looked at me and gave me no reaction then took off, I think he didnt understand me because he didnt speak English well. I saw them speaking Italian to each other while watching TV. The pizza was good but the rest made me want to leave, than finish I saw cockroaches climbing on the tables, and please if you have an open kitchen why dont you lower your voice you could hear the noise of pots and plates being thrown, ringing the bell multiple times is annoying. This experience make me feels like Im eating at a fast food restaurant.
The best Tiramisu !!!
If you leave Italy, you can get Italy back in this shop. The pizza was really good.
I have been to this place in the past and the pizza was much better. I returned recently and the pizza was tasteless. The dough was very soft (like pita bread) and the sauce was acidy. Food is over priced for this location.
Very good pizza, certainly one of the best eaten outside Italy and better than many eaten in Italy.
Really nice quiet place with great Italian food! Us and our 3.5 year old daughter really enjoyed the food!
Delicious pizzas. Great drink selection. Lots of sides and starters. Staff are very friendly and the service is excellent. A must visit when youre in Kensington Market. Youll love it. I just dropped by for a visit a few days ago. The service was outstanding. If 5 stars is the limit, Id give the staff that day a 10!
Showed up at 9:16 pm , Their timings are 10 pm for closing , The guy told me we are closed.Update your timings online if you are not serving pizzas past 9 so people wouldnt come all the way from freaking Oshawa to eat the pizza.Never coming back ,Badiali is way better
Super authentic yummy pizza, similar to what I had in Italy. I loved it, the Via Mercanti double layered pizza was super fun and good value as well. Split it with a friend and easily satisfied
Great Southern Italian foods. They were little saltier than usual Italian dishes but affordable. Parking: 17 st. Andre st. Affordable parking
Only gluten free pizza Ive had in Toronto. Napolitano: anchovy AND capers, very nice base, crispy, thick, stonebaked, sort of like wholemeal so tasty! Nothing like the boring gfree dough in pizza chains back home. 10/10 Food
Really delicious!
The best Italian restaurant in Toronto. Very affordable. Great service. Generous portions. Do yourself a favor & eat here.
One of the best Italian restaurants in Toronto. Food is delicious made with fresh ingredients. Ive had several of their pasta dishes and the gnocchi pomodoro is one of my favourites. The fried calamari are also fantastic, a must try, and they have the best tiramisu. The service is great and staff are friendly. Dont pass this place by!
Amazing food and service
The pizzas are amazing. Didnt like the meatballs or tiramisu. Unfortunately, the service can be hit or miss. Food
Its a Wonderful Italian restaurant in one of the best in the city. They have a nice unique and Charming inside and a bit of a patio outside. They offer an absolutely delicious assortment of dishes and each and every one of them is worth the try. Ive never had a disappointing visit. The service is great and very attentive. They also make delicious and beautiful cocktails that are just very enjoyable with a great meal. This is a place to definitely try
We were forced to pay a 20% gratuity because we had 6 people in our group. No special orders, only two people had drinks, and all on one bill. The place was not busy. A total rip-off
Every world is a country.... I think thats what they say. But here you feel like youre on the seafront of Salerno even though youre in Canada. Here you can eat real pizza. Excellent service and quality. I highly recommend it
We love the place, food always hit the spot! Staff is friendly and very professional.
Visiting Toronto and was nearby, didn t plan to have lunch here but very happy we did. Highly recommend. Only a slight knock on bathrooms which could use some updating. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free pasta and pizza crust
suuper good
Calzone was very salty and had almost no flavour/seasoning, but tiramisu was amazing! Very very good tiramisu- would come back just for that. Service was alright, a little slow but they don t rush you out which is nice.
Very good pizza
Update: Returned in 2024 to unfortunately find out that Via Mercanti has abandoned the authentic flavorful sourdough crust in favor for the tasteless non-sourdough but economically viable crust every Neapolitan pizzeria in the city is using. Its really sad but I guess post covid economy got to them. Sauce still tastes great, so does the cheese, but barely any air or flavor in the non-sourdough crust. OLD REVIEW: Finally, a real authentic Neapolitan pizzeria that uses double fermented sourdough. I was surprised by how many certified Neapolitan pizzerias used bland tasteless dough, but not these guys. Its a 5* on account of nailing the basics.
We had, our friends at Via Mercanti at 188 Augusta Ave restaurant I had pasta bolognese it had an odd taste, I didnt finish this pasta Within 4 hrs after eating this meal I vomited only the meat and pasta I ate at the restaurant I ate appetizers and dessert and coffee I was totally disappointed with our service After a 20% gratuity not even a thank you from this server I had ordered a dessert to go which I did not receive I suspect the meat in this dish was contaminated
Excellent pizzas Nice places where you can see the pizza maker working
Nice Italian place in downtown Toronto, calamari with tomatoes especially nice and of course pizzas are legit.
Whilst we enjoyed great food and excellent service in humble surroundings I was disappointed in the conditions of the washrooms and the downstairs in general. There was a room full of random items where a mop, pail, broom and filthy dustpan lay outside its open door. The washroom: There were no paper towels to dry ones hands and the toilet was in a generally unkempt condition. Weve been coming to dine here for many years, I do hope its standards return to what they were in the past.
We Loved
I went last night to have dinner with a friend and we shared a Bianca crudo & regula pizza and was just delicious. Also, we had bolognese pasta and wow incredible tasty. Food from this place is always good
I would highly recommend the Pesto pizza, just amazing taste and flavor. If youre visiting this place then you should definitely give it a try
Really great, fresh and tasty. Loved it
I went to this Italian restaurant for lunch with 4 friends. We had linguine with seafood and pizza, both delicious. A very kind and attentive Italian girl served us, we will definitely be back!
Amazing pizza
The Margherita pizza was great. I got it to go and couldve had a second pie. Highly recommend if youre around Kensington market in Toronto.
Nice staff, fresh products, excellent real pizza
We had pastas. They were good.
What is this thing to real Italian pizza Toronto has to offer. You can tell that this restaurant focusses on quality quality of food and authenticity left every bite of everything I had, and definitely wanted the best tiramisu in town. The staff were lovely and helpful. Dietary restrictions: Very responsive to dietary restrictions and allergies Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly
Really the best Italian pizza. When you taste it you feel like you are in Rome, or better yet, in Naples. The attention is very warm. Why 4/5 for the atmosphere?: There is no Italian background music. Although maybe its not bad.
Truffle pizza will u mary me?
Authentic Italian Pizza. Great service and awesome taste.
Amazing pizza!
Excellent Neapolitan pizza.
Amazing food!!
The most authentic Italian pizza in all of Toronto, the oven is imported from Salerno and the pizzaiolo s are from Italy.
Awesome Naples-style pizza, the flavor of the cheese is unique. I was there in a very busy day and the team, even small, could attend me and my wife with a lot of empathy and kindness. Definitely recommended ;)
Great food, although the service was horrible. And the restaurant was practically empty. We didnt see our waitress again after we ordered initially. And we would have liked to order more but she never came back around. We gave up and asked for our bill and went elsewhere for the other items we wanted to order. Plus, she added on a gratituty and then took it off after I pointed it out (20%). I left zero after that whole interaction and time there. Plus, my friends drink was $14! For a simple ceaser. No wonder why they dont have a drink menu, so you order then are hit with the surprise on your bill I wont be returning
Loved the pizza, wine, and apps. Wine deals on Thursdays.
Good pizza, although slightly burnt, the taste was just how I wanted it. Definitely worth it
Fix your washrooms. Not having a functional womens washroom is bad enough, but at least maintain the one sad mens room.
Pizza was good but the salmon definitely could be better
Delicious pizza and knocci.
Love this place for pizza, one of the best in the city and comparable to Italy. Good selection of drinks from Italy as well. The service is absolutely horrible, I ve had this experience on multiple occasions, but the food is what keeps me coming back. Maybe I ll just switch to takeout.
Having passed by this pizzeria by chance, I go to look at the photos of the pizzas and I am impressed. After eating I confirmed my impression! Its a little corner of Italy in Toronto! Superlative pizza, excellent appetizers and also a super coffee!
The food was great and the restaurant is centrally located in Kensington Market. The servers were super friendly, and the food came out quickly. Prices are fair. Highly recommended!
I come here every couple of years and its always such a treat :) Great food and lovely service! Probably my favourite pizza place in the city.
Pizza was overall good, especially the one with pesto, liked the dough as well. Margherita was lacking of salt
Very good service, spectacular stone-baked Neapolitan pizzas. All at a good price.
Great pizza, although more classical topping combinations. Decent beer selection. Other dishes look worth trying
Came here a for a birthday dinner and the pizza was delicious, great atmosphere and our female waiter (don t know her name) was incredibly sweet and helpful.
their pizza was amazing, but their four cheese gnocchi was incredibly salty. didn t get many photos, but it s a cute place; service is kind of inconsistent but staff is nice and they have a huge menu
The taste was good. And they make pizza in a wood-fired oven. Wheelchair accessibility: Its spacious.
We had the tuna salad, rigatoni bolognese
I have gone several times, especially when I miss Italy. Well done. I think the best pizza in Toronto. Quick in service too. Quality.
Excellent food.
The pizza was good. The service was cold. The atmosphere could have been better.
Great spot for a meal. The food was excellent and pricing is competitive. The overall experience was great. Ill be back.
No matter what youve heard about other pizza places, they dont compare to this place.
Vegetarian options: Vegan options are few. Food
I had a meatball panini (served with salad), it was very good! The service was nice as well.
It was such a good pizza the one I tried with truffle. However the entrance had a little piece of plastic. I put it apart of my plate but just watch out with this.
Always a blast eating here Have been coming here for years and always always top notch Italian dining Food
Very delicious wood oven pizza, nice and quick service,
BEST pizza in Toronto hands down. The dough is perfectly crunchy outside and chewy inside. Tomato sauce is banging. Quality cheese. Loads of toppings. I love the topping combinations of the Mercanti pizza and would highly recommend it. The only downside is that the service is hit or miss here. There have been a few times where we were ignored, menu not brought out, nobody to come take our order until we literally walk up and flag someone. This only happened when it was patio season and we were sat outside - same guy who would throw the menu down on the table and appeared like he really didnt want to be working there.
The pizza was good here, not the best Ive ever had, but pretty great. Topping combinations tend to be more minimalistic, which isnt a bad thing. The prices are also reasonable. The major flaw that this restaurant needs to overcome (and the reason I wont go back) is the overwhelming smell of the deep fryer that permeates everything. I was at the restaurant on Wednesday, today is a Saturday and my coat still stinks of frying oil. Quite frankly, I dont want to smell frying oil when Im eating dinner, and I definitely dont want to smell it 4 days later on everything I brought into the restaurant.
The chewiest pizza dough ever had. Would recommend the pizza to anyone, even the crust is chewy and not dried out. The spaghetti bolognese is rich in tomato flavour, but the meat is too dry and absolutely tasteless. Tiramisu- I like the cream, thick and not plasticky, but single layer of sponge is clearly not enough, and the sponge cake is too plain, I can t taste any espresso (or liquor) in it.
Recently discovered this gem! Delicious pizza and food overall. We had the Eggplant parm, salad, veg pizza, tiramisu and lattes. Cozy local spot. Will be back again.
First time going to buy pizza for take out, however; it was an experience! Really enjoy it!!!
Best pizza in Toronto. Yummy!!!
This place has the nicest servers I have ever met. Katy gave us complimentary bread because it was very busy and our order was taking longer. The chef is very talented. Food was amazing and they allow for meat substitution, which is great for vegetarians. Overall 10/10
Wood fired pizza of the higest authenticity.
All the food was delicious and everyone was very kind.
Excellent... Still a little expensive! A pizza, a draft beer, and a starter for $60...before tip!
Highly authentic cuisine and staff. Will come back again!
One of the waiter was giving us attitude, but I still pay tips back few in years ago. Me and my friend are East Asian and he s an Italian male. Could be racially driven, didn t spoke up back then but I didn t forgot and just recalled it. Food is okey might visit again.
My friend and I visited today. I m a vegetarian for religious reasons and I ordered a vegetarian pizza. When the pizza came out it has pepperoni in the crust which I had to send back. We also were not given any side plates, napkins or cutlery and had to fetch it ourselves or flag someone down to get it.
First time coming here..omg Selena was so helpful to me..I found her so attractive and she delivered just as good as her looks, felt very welcome by her pretty face and she served me like I was at a 5 star hotel..whoeve is reading this Selena deserved a raise above raises. In love with her as much as I m I love with this restaurant..all the best to via mercanti and their futures..thankyo!
Yummy yummy in my tummy
Thank you so much
The best Italian pizza in Toronto so far. 4 stars cuz they didn t cut the pizza. I had struggled eating it cuz i had no knife. Food
Fantastic Italian Pizzeria! A real Neapolitan pizza in Kensington market that you absolutely must try.
Excellent and would go more often if I lived in Toronto!
Follow @bredgyeats for more food posts! Bufalina - a wood fired, softer, neopolitan style pizza with focus on a bubbly, airy crust and a charred, chewier undercarriage that provides a different experience altogether. Fresh mozzarella is slapped ontop of thinly sliced prosciutto thats condensed with salty umami thats balanced with the freshness of the basil and mellow out the harshness of the meat. After eating all those carbs and cheese, a tiramisu is the perfect ending. Tiramisu - Creamy mascarpone with a dusting of cocoa powder, and a thin layer of sponge cake.
A Culinary Journey to Milan at Pizza Via Mercanti! I had an exquisite dining experience at Pizza Via Mercanti yesterday, and it deserves nothing less than a 5-star review! The culinary delights I indulged in, including the wood fire oven pizza, tantalizing ravioli, heavenly dessert, and delightful bread paired with a superb coffee latte, left my taste buds in pure ecstasy. The freshness of the ingredients truly shone through in every bite. The woodfire oven added a perfect touch to the pizza, making it a delectable masterpiece. The ambiance of the restaurant transported me to the charming streets of Milan, creating a memorable atmosphere that enhanced my dining pleasure. The staff, particularly Saimoom, our friendly server with a perpetually happy face, made the experience even more enjoyable. Their warmth and friendliness added a personal touch that made me feel genuinely welcomed. The extensive selection of drinks further added to the overall excellence of Pizza Via Mercanti. From start to finish, the attention to detail and commitment to quality were evident in every aspect of the dining experience. If youre looking for a taste of Italy right in your neighborhood, coupled with outstanding service and a Milanese ambiance, Pizza Via Mercanti is the place to be. Five stars without a doubt!
cozy spot for good pizza and groups
Frittura Di Pesce, Scarpariello and Vegetariana pizzas were yummy. Tiramasu was heavenly tasty. Worth repeating.
The pizza was good and the eggplant parmiggiana also. The service was good. The arancini was not hot all the way to the center. Parking: This pizza location is in an area filled with food shops, many of which have little seating areas.
I don t recommend the pasta, but the rest of the food was amazing.
Had the pizza, would definitely go again!
Best pizza I ve had in DT! Service was spectacular and amazing food
Everything was good, its a good family place to bring your kids. Great atmosphere. It looks ok from the outside, but once you go inside, theres a nice ambiance. The food was ok. Good customer service. Good pizza and pasta. I do not recommend the chicken. The ice cream with a espresso shot was the best dessert. I would go back there to try a different pasta dish on the menu. The prices were better than all other places. Thank you for your service.
Great service, atmosphere with a touch of Musica italiana. The antipasto and Pizza was out of this world ma che buono . Grazie Food : 5/5
Excellent pizza especially the crust. Staff was friendly and did their best to create a happy meal. TVs for kids. Perfect spot for a big meal and then a stroll around Kensington Market. Nobody strayed from pizza. Would be curious how their other dishes taste
Excellent Pizza
So we can hear with our family and our daughter and thought about sitting on their patio , the atmosphere was absolutely disgusting because the reality is the patio wasn t set up to accompany customers, the service was poor, they charge you $8 for water ! Disgusting, there were 3 different mentally ill men walking past our table yelling curse words while we were trying to eat, the smell was bad . Kensington in general is not known for being a clean and nice hygienic spot to begin with but yo add this restaurant it really makes no sense. To top it off the girl work in the restaurant who was by the gelatos counter was double dipping from the very tub she scoops for customers. She was eating with the wooden spoon and thought no one would see her but we saw her and were disgusted by how unprofessional all this was. Long story short , don t waste your money nor time trying to have a great experience and good by going to one of Torontos most unhygienic and disgusting streets and visiting these guys. You re better off searching some other spots where the vibes nice.
A delicious pizza
Dietary restrictions: Gluten free Food
Best pizza in Toronto. Hands down. No competition.
Pizza the way is done in Italy, very good ingredients and nice prompt service.
There was a cockroach in our water glass tonight . We were sitting at the table right beside the bar. I told a waitress and she took the glass away. Im sure if theres one theres many more and I must not have been the only person to have seen a cockroach here at this restaurant. Great food. Please take care of your cockroach problem. Have ppl seen cockroaches in Kensington market ?
I picked Pizzeria Via Mercati because of the google review which indicates it closed at 22:00. It s 20:45 pm, I just walked in the place, there were people in the dining room eating but they told me they are closing early and would not seat me me. Horrible attitude. It doesn t matter how good the pizza could be, they are too unprofessional.
Delicious food, a bit pricey for the portions that they served, I will go back
Great Italian food!
The atmosphere is fantastic and the service is top notch. Me and the wife really enjoyed both the pizzas we ordered. Next time were in the city this place is definitely be on the short list of places to eat.
I actually love their fresh pastas. They also have the citys best tiramisu in my opinion.
Great pizza. Friendly staff.
Authentic Italian cuisine. Wood stove pizza. Pasta and coffee are good too.
Great experience
The overall experience was good, I really liked the cheese taste of the Pizza. It was different from other places. The Pizza dough was good too, but not Very exceptional. The portion of fries was great and the price was so fair. This was absolutely a great place to visit and trying for once.
Without a doubt some of the best pizza in Toronto! Unassuming pizzeria but surprisingly delicious. Only tried 1 pie so far and it was incredible, best white pie Ive had in the city. Will definitely be back to try a lot more. Food : 5/5
The service and the food were very good. Specially, the tiramisú was delicious. I definitely recommend this place.
The food is always amazing, the fired pizzas are my favourite. It may be hard to get a table during busy hours, so I recommend making a reservation
We had the calamari/shrimp, bruschetta, lasagna and pizza - all of it was very delicious! The atmosphere was warm and friendly
It was amazing pizza pasta tiramisu omg to die for highly recommend a little pricey but worth it
You can breathe an air of Italianity... in the hospitality and professionalism!! Not only that, but the food also tastes Italian...cooked with skill...well done, keep it up.
delicious pizza
The food was great and the staff too!! The pizza crust was excellent Vegetarian options: Some vegetarian pizza on offer
Great place for Italian! Loved the food, the sauces and the ambience of the place. It can easily host large groups as well as small intimate meet-ups! Fair few vegetarian options as well which was great to see! Vegetarian options: Fair few options in pasta and pizza both.
The ingredients werent writen in English, there was solid objects inside some of the pizza like fish bone, and the Napolitan tasted like unwashed fish.
Such good pizza!
Very tasty food that came very quickly. The staff were lovely and very friendly, helping us out whenever we needed it. I ended up coming back during my stay in Toronto since we enjoyed it a lot and were nearby. I highly recommend it!
Just went back. Still an excellent place for Italian food. They make excellent Naples style pizzas. And their eggplant Parmigiano is pretty decent too.
I think that most of the menu is overpriced given the quality. I make better spaghetti bolognese and wouldnt dry out the beef even more so when the price is over 20 dollars. I find better tiramisu at Rabba. Sorry.. Pizza was good though!
This is an excellent Toronto pizzeria and Ive been to many. Quite authentic and delicious pizza.
The pizza was delicious, but the pasta was also delicious.
Went in randomly, great service, kid friendly, food was fantastic. I had the diavola pizza and they added red sauce on it, my wife had the mushroom pasta and was extremely happy with it. Definitely would recommend, even with kids. Kid-friendliness: My daughter accidentally spilled her water, our host immediately came and cleaned up the table and was very friendly with her. The high chair was available immediately for my 1 yr old son. Couldn t have asked for a better lunch spot on a Sunday.
Great staff
First time I went it was drafty, the pizza wasnt the best and the pasta dish too salty. The pizza was much better the second time I went, albeit being on the pricier side. Still wouldnt recommend the pasta.
Best pizza in town hands down. Reminded me of NYC pizzas.
It was great, the food, the service, everything. Pizzeria vía Mercanti is a most try restaurant in Toronto.
Probably one of the best wood oven Pizzas Ive ever had!!
great place!!
Good location in the heart of Kensington Market, with many other shops around. Walking distance to Spadina and China Town. Very tasty food! Their pizza is traditional Italian pizza, with thin crust and generous toppings. Big menu with lots of traditional Italian meals, including a wine list and desserts. Great place to hold a birthday party, like we did. They put a long thin table together for us which sat about twenty people. One of the best Italian restaurants I have been to in the city!
Sad food ! Really really flavorless & sad food. Ordered the Fried Mozzarella - Five bites served on a bed of stale Arugula. The breading had absolutely no flavor in it. Was not seasoned breading. Could have been served on marinara or with a side of marinara. The Ricotta ravioli with a truffle mushroom sauce was the only palatable dish of the evening. The sauce was albeit too thick though. Didnt see any shaved fresh truffles on a 32$ dish. It was truffle oil. The pizza was forgettable. To call it Neapolitan would be a shame to pizza. Ordered the Cherry Tomato - Pesto. Tasted like they forgot to salt the pesto. Had to reach out to some parma on the table to find some flavor to it. The cornicione to the crust ratio was so off that we were left with just bread with no sauce or toppings after a few bites. Chilli Oil to the rescue. All things said, the Chill Oil was the best thing they served all evening. The saddest of the lot was the Via Mercanti - their famous double later pizza. Was just raw uncooked dough all around. We couldnt even enjoy the toppings or the sauce as we were eating just uncooked dough. If theyre serious about being an Italian restaurant, they should really revisit their pizza dough. Assuming that it was a one off day, they should bring consistency.
Such a nice looking resturant but the food left a lot to be desired. We were seated quickly and went through the menu. As we waited we started to smell smoke coming from the kitchen. Throughout our meal we would smell smoke or burning which ruined the atmosphere. When my meal arrived the sauce was clumpy and it was clear the food was not fresh. The pasta it self was fine but the sauce was tasteless, clumpy and unappetizing. The wine glass after inspection was found to be dirty and had a sour smell likely because it hadnt been washed well. The food is not worth the price and service was just okay. The waiters spent more time having inappropriate conversations near guests. Dont think Ill be coming back here especially when there are better Italian restaurants in Kensignton or on College. I would also say the menu lacks variety and meat options but likely its faster to make defrosted meals than cook fresh recipes. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options here but the quality is sub par.
Pizzeria via Mercanti preserve the ambiance of pizzeria from Napoli. Located in the lively neighbourhood of Kensington is the perfect place to stop by and have a good pizza. Their pizza menu is full of classics with some innovations like via Mercanti pizza. The antipasti are delicious supported by fresh Italian ingredients. We had pizza frita and it was great. When you get to the deserts, tiramisu is a must, homemade, creamy and just fantastic. Service is very friendly and they help a lot to feel that you are a different place. A couple of things to improve is the air circulation is not great, and we had to open the windows to get some air in and also the drinking menu could be a bit more ambitious, their offering is just ok. But overall it is a great experience and recommended to check in Toronto.
