Came in last night with a large group (25 people). Not only were they able to accommodate us, the service was EXCELLENT. Mike and Ryan were super attentive, and Mark (in the kitchen) CRUSHED it with the food! This was my first time at the venue, but it wont be my last. 5 stars!!!

this place on halloweekend was the best! they didn t charge cover yet the party was bumpin. it was super busy and yet somehow spacious enough for everybody. good crowd of people, really nice all around, from mid 20s to about mid 30s. the drinks were 10$ which is awesome and it was easy to get the bartenders attention, and they worked hella hard!! the bouncer was also super chill. i loved the ambiance in there and the decor, everything about this venue is awesome. coat hangers were such a saviour as well as all the seating space. the bathrooms are unisex but so tidy and proper. the only question mark at first was the dj: we were expecting house music like it was two nights ago but it was more for the girlies, playing every 2000s song you can remember from your middle school dances. don t get me wrong the music was great but that wasn t for everyone. i think the dj caught the vibe and started to play more recent tracks mixing pop house hip hop and latin. that s the only thing that could ve improved but even still it was a fun saturday!!!

My friends and I kicked off our night out at Death and Taxes Free House, and it truly turned out to be the highlight of our evening! The drinks and the service was absolutely amazing, with special shoutouts to Ashley and Ryan, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and have fun. Their vibrant energy enhances the already lovely atmosphere, making it the ideal place to unwind and have a great time. We cant wait to come back!

We had a good time here. We came as a group of 8 on Saturday afternoon and we were seated immediately. The server tool care of us and recommended drinks, which we ordered and were good. We ordered the shooters that were the special for that day. We ordered wings and some dumplings and they were delicious too.

Ordered a margarita during their $10 happy hour...was charged $18, and when brought to the bartenders attention was told it was because I asked for it to be made without sugar (the most basic and common mod.) Bartender should have given the heads up absolutely no modifications can be make before charging almost double their listed price.

Hidden spot just off Ossington that surprisingly has good food. The pizza was my favourite. Sat on the patio which had decent space. I would recommend this spot to anyone that s looking to try a different vibe.

Such a fun vibe at this bar!!! The DJ did not disappoint nor did the cocktails, my friends and I had a blast! Definitely coming back again and maybe on a Tuesday to try out their trivia night!

Great food and service

Lone customer at the bar was asking racist and harassing questions of the waitress, and the male bartender who was right there at first said nothing, then just contributed his own racist and anti-immigrant thoughts when the drunk customer addressed him directly. I felt terrible for the waitress, who didn t deserve any of that, and was so disgusted by the bartender s behaviour that I walked right back out without ordering. I will never come here again.

Had the best time here this weekend - thanks to Anika for being the most lovely host and bartender. Can t wait to be back!

The best place for trivia in the summer - Are We Having Fun Yet Food

We dined here earlier, I didn t catch our servers name but he was such a sweetie. Service was great but his personality was super charming and lovely. So genuine! Good luck in Costa Rica thanks for the great time today !! Also the food was absolutely amazing as always !

The drive from Niagara is so worth it. Not only are Alex, Eric and and Cierra so great but they make me want to come back all the time! Tonight was so busy and both Alex and Eric CRUSHED it. I was there for brunch, and would recommend coming for dinner or just drinks instead. Servers were great, but the food took forever to come out, and wasnt great once it arrived. Undercooked eggs, raw potatoes, burnt bacon. New cook is needed in the kitchen. Great playlist though

I dont want to sound hyperbolic (and it could have been the alcohol in my system) but the food here was insanely good. I was pleasantly shocked! You dont expect the food in these type of places to be THAT good because dive bars/bar food places are just exactly what you need nothing more nothing less. But this was definitely some of the best bar food Ive ever had. Our server was also super super nice! Had a good sense of humor and treated us very well! Definitely coming back!

One of the best bars on Queen Street West? Its in the running. Been there a couple of times, always dealt with very friendly and accommodating staff. I know people are a bit numb to bad service in this city, but when you finally get served by genuinely agreeable staff, it just lifts your experience significantly, and I felt that bump in enjoyment at Death & Taxes. Drinks are great and well priced, food was tasty and well done, got the classic burger and fries. Came for trivia on Tuesday, had a blast, well organized, fun and engaging. Came before, had a lovely time on the patio with the fire pit. Ambience is nice, probably one of the best happy hour menus Ive seen in a while. Gets my recommendation.

Staff are friendly, but I ve been twice and both times the drinks were not good and the food was quite bland. The automated billing system was also buggy.

Dropped in for drinks with time to kill, good atmosphere, small tables. Definitely the opposite of free ( i know its just a name but seriously) payed $36 for a beer and an irish coffee. A very watery and boozy irish coffee as well. The service wasnt great, didnt really check in or offer assistance. I also was not a fan of the online menu, and table pay system, it kept popping up on my phone to pay/add card, which felt intrusive.

Our waitress Rachael was amazing! She was not only extremely friendly but she was really attentive even though it was a super busy night. She knew the menu really well and checked on us at the perfect times. Love this place & would like to shout out Rachael.

I had a blast at trivia night tonight! I don t normally leave reviews but I have to because it was honestly one of the best experiences i ve had with a restaurant. Our server, Jake, was great! He was so friendly and fun and helped make this night unforgettable! Will definitely be back.

I love this place. I always feel so welcomed here. The food is great, the beer is cold, the vibe are good. Amber has always been so attentive and very personable. Ive worked as a bartender before and for people who havent worked in the industry before, it can be hard to understand how difficult this job is, but Amber always seems to do everything she needs to do (serve, bartend, food runner, manager) to make my experience great. Ill see yall there for a drink (or two)

This is a neighbourhood gem! The staff are super knowledgeable and fun. They make great cocktails and the food is always good. You can come here for a pint, for dinner, on your own or in a big group and you ll have a blast. One of my favourite spots on queen west. I highly recommend.

My mum and I checked out Death and Taxes for the first time and it was a wonderful experience! Had the shakshuka and it was so good - we were served by Rae who was so helpful explaining the menu for my mum who is vegetarian. Excited to go back!

Pros: Friendly servers, good vibes, delicious drinks (generous with the alcohol yet tastes good still) and the pizza and burgers are pretty good with large portions (what you expect for pub food) Cons: Seats aren t very comfortable (hard wooden chairs, benches are a bit too high for the table with no backrest), some of the bread for the burger was a bit soggy from too much sauce, and food is a bit expensive for what it is

Came in for a friends birthday and we had such a good time! Our waitress was amazing, her name was Rachel and I would definitely ask for her again. She recommended we get the prosceco. For only 30 bucks a bottle it was the best deal- such a reasonable price.

My friends and I came for brunch and had the best time. We had such a good time because of one reason. That reason was our server Rachel. She was absolutely incredible. She had us laughing and started very interesting conversations with our table. The food was also excellent and it s a great atmosphere. I will definitely be telling my friends about this place and coming back here hopefully to have Rachel as our waiter again.

Honestly thought it would be like Insomnia on bathlerst and bloor but its was kinda stale. I did go on a sunday late lunch but i dident expect the fries to be almost rock hard like they were re cooked from sitting in the bowl. The chicken burger was a dry schnitzel from frozen to fried on a small amout of chopped lettus and some mayo. I have honestly had better food at A&W. From all the positive revews i can just say im kinda dissapointed i got them on a bad day. The severs were nice tho.

We just LOVE this place. Food and service is amazing! We just moved to the area and have been navigating local places to to hang out and have a good time. Definitely great time everytime we there. Hockey game or just evening drinks its always great.

Came for dinner. Grabbed a bunch of dishes to share. All of them were fantastic. Cocktails were really good as well, and they had a good cider special on as well. Place itself is very clean, servers were super friendly and menu is online, and paying is available from an app or at the bar. Atmosphere is good, not too loud and you can hear yourself talking. Would go again!

Nice and calm spot for brunch. I had the shakuka and my friend had the chicken and waffles- both were delicious. Service was fine, the person serving us was a bit short- didnt ask us if we would like anything else after wed done eating, just asked if the bills were seperate and bought them immediatel, so we werent inclined to stay, nor was the place very busy.

Wasnt going to write a review but the more I think people need to be warned. There are better options around with better service and amazing food. Scroll down to the bottom for some suggestions. 1) We wanted to sit close to a window. The seat cushions need a good cleaning, I could have pushed passed that but the tables were dirty. We had no other choice but to sit in a dark area in the back. 2) Male waiter was nice enough but the blonde waitress was awful (did not get a name). I noticed the blonde waitress was waiting on everyone else, which didnt bother me until the end. 3) Party of 10 came in, blonde waitress was suddenly eager to wait on them. She asked the group not only what type of drinks they wanted but if they wanted, spicy, mild, sweet etc,. she was the one to ask. 4) I noticed when she walked by she stared hard at our table and then it all made sense. Blonde waitress was being so nice to the party of 10 because of the tips she would be receiving at the end. I think she was looking at our table because we had order a lot for 2 people. I guess we did not look like the type that would have ordered so much food and her tip would have been good. 5) My sister asked for the cheque from the blonde waitress and she was all to happy to go get. I paid with card and my sister paid with cash. She did not return my sisters change and pocketed it. When my sister asked for her change back, she replied, Oh, you want your $1.40. Excuse me! SHE DID NOT WAIT ON US AT ALL. I hope that my tip went to the guy that did wait on us?!?! My sister went up to the guy that waited on us and gave him her tip, I am not that gutsy. Whoever, does the hiring you need to fire that waitress or at least show her proper etiquette. I may have looked like a bum that night, I was dressed according to the way I felt. We only went there to try something new, I like beer and I thought they would have flights, which they did not, but did have a good selection. I could have easily come in with a party of 10 but will never after this experience. If you want better options around there, I highly recommend Hello123 (vegan but very delicious) and Bar Poet. I dont live in the area but would travel in for these 2. The only good thing at Death and Taxes is there beer selection.

I wish I could get pass the rude, disrespectful, racist host to try this place. If I was the owner, I would fire her today. She told us all the seats are reserved. I went across the street to drake hotel and had a nice meal and they lost a customer because of bad service.all the time we were eating our food across the streets all the tables we asked for were empty so the reservation was a lie. I felt being discriminated being a woman of color.

Been many times, had good and bad experiences. Usually a good crowd and vibe. Once I went and ended up w some random ladies drinks on my bill. They wouldnt remove them as they thought she was with our group. She was actually just bothering us and was not invited to sit with us. Was very disappointed how they dealt with the situation.

I went here after an event to socialize with friends. This was late evening. The music was being played by a live dj which was cool. But was way too loud to chat with friends. We actually left shortly after ordering some mediocre appetizers because the young lady who served us was not polite and we just couldnt hear each other. Not writing this place off. Ive only ever been here once, just want what we were hoping for when we walked in. I would come back on a date as a pre drink type of thing. Kid-friendliness: Not for youth.

Amber and the staff always go the extra mile to make the experience at death and taxes a memorable one. The service is some of the best in the city and the hospitality is like no other. This spot quickly became one of my favourites to return to and one of my best recommendations when asked where to go for a great time!

I visited for dinner with a friend. We ordered Korean Chicken Bao, Rosemary Fries, Speziato, and Funghi Pizza. I was in the mood for something with a spicy kick, and if you love the fiery heat, you should order Korean Chicken Bao. Pizzas here were a little different (they were really good). On Speziato pizza, they put Salami as one of their toppings, but if you are a vegetarian you can ask them to avoid it. Believe me, Fries were so good here. I have had fries at other pubs and they are so oily. Mushroom lovers, you should definitely order Funghi Pizza.

Death and Taxes Free House is a mixed bag in my personal opinion. Located right in the heart of the downtown area, Near Queen Street and Dufferin Avenue, Death & Taxes depends on who you are being served. The staff seemed really up right and not concerned about others and very arrogant for no apparent reason. I was really taken back by the atmosphere the staff were given back to their customers, its as if they dont enjoy working there. The menu at Death & Taxes is your typical pub grub that includes appetizers, wings , pizza , salads and burgers. I thoroughly enjoyed their Chicken wings as it was a treat to have and their pizza is a personal size pizza thats perfect for munching down on. They do have a wide variety of drinks to choose from their menu and its locally owned and serves the Parkdale Community and more.

Our group of friends decided to have dinner at this restaurant, and we were pleasantly surprised by the combination of affordability and deliciousness in their food. We had the opportunity to sample various dishes and unanimously agreed that the brussel sprouts were an absolute standout. The waitstaff impressed us with their friendly demeanor and extensive knowledge of the menu. However, the outdoor atmosphere left something to be desired, as a large flickering light hovering over the patio hindered our enjoyment. **On my way downstairs to the bathroom, I encountered a large mouse, indicating a potential infestation issue that should be addressed promptly. Due to this, my girlfriend decided to wait until we returned home to use the restroom.**

Went with our family of 4 for our daughter s birthday. I had the crispy chicken. It was too fried and dry. The fires were similar to McDonalds but not as tasty. The kids shared a pepperoni pizza that had a great crust but sauce was mediocre. Overall a rather expensive evening with the family, but it s expected in downtown Toronto. Last Saturday, I went back to my favorite bar in downtown Toronto with a friend to escape the rain. The atmosphere here is always amazing, and the bartenders, especially Hayley, were super friendly and talented. They really made our night special. The music was okay, but I still have a soft spot for the 80s playlist they had last year. Now, lets talk about the star of the show the rosemary fries. They were absolutely fantastic, bursting with incredible flavors. This bar has become my go-to spot downtown. The vibes are always amazing, the service from the talented bartenders (a big shout-out to Hayley!) is outstanding, and the unforgettable rosemary fries make it a must-visit for anyone who wants to have a great time in the city center.

Absolutely amazing service from Henry and the food was amazing. I got the D&T burger while my husband and friend got the mushroom and pepperoni pizzas. Definitely try the parmesan rosemary fries! Drinks were tasty too and the vibe is chill. Will definitely visit again when Im in the area.

Came for brunch on a Sunday. Was disappointed with the food. The kitchen was out of key ingredients (chicken, potatoes). The replacement shoe string fries were too greasy. The hollandaise sauce tasted like it was from a powder and the plate was wet so the bread became soggy. Service was also somewhat inattentive. I don t usually leave poor reviews but I felt like the restaurant didn t really care whether we enjoyed our meal or not.

I had the pepperoni pizza, and it was SHOCKINGLY GOOD. I also had a slice of my friends mushroom pizza, and while Im not generally big on mushrooms, this was exquisite. The crust was phenomenal on both. Our waiter, Henry, was an absolute peach. We just wanted a quick bite before the Randy Feltface show nearby, and man, I am going to travel all the way back here from my little hole in North York, just for another dang pizza. WOW. (sorry about the mostly empty photo, it was so good I forgot to take a before picture.

Got the Gouda burger very average! Nothing special.

Delicious pizza, great ambience, lovely location. Overall its a place you definitely have to come and have a great time and good drinks. Service still have some room for improvement (I had a miscommunication issue)
