I've been here once for drinks and had a good time and was impressed with their beers, so I decided to bring my girlfriend here for her birthday dinner. Despite making a dinner reservation and seeing a few empty two-seaters with reserved signs, we were seated at the bar, and when I asked if we could get a table instead we were told they were expecting large groups (?) The vegan burger was served on a very soggy bun like it had been sitting on the counter too long and the rest of the food was rather bland. I'd go back, but only for the beer selection.

Great brewery and restaurant on the east end! A lot of great beers in a beautiful space! Was here for a group event. I arrived right before happy hour ended, told I missed it by a minute. No problem! After I ordered my sour, the server mentioned for my next one to get a bottle since they are half off on Sundays. Would have appreciated the heads up before I ordered a pint. As for food we didn't have a private room. The food was tasty but there wasn't a whole lot of it. A table of 6 has two sliders come our at a time with time in between. So venue great for smaller groups bit the food definitely not paced or portioned for groups. It was like a rotation of snacks but only two people eating at a time. Service might be better in a non geoup setting.

Follow @bredgyeats for more food photos! Beer Can Chicken - The perfect sort of pub food, half of a chicken cooked for a beautifully golden brown skin and served with a chicken beer jus and ultra-fresh vegetables taken straight from their own garden on the upper floor. It's completely different from the supermarket stuff.

The beer selection was at Avling was wonderful, and the snacks (both appetizers we ordered and the sticky toffee pudding dessert) were very tasty. Not sure I'd say the same about the main dishes, which were just fine but nothing to write home about, so I'd heartily recommend this place for a night out for some drinks and snacks, rather than a restaurant experience.

The place is stunning! I loved the island bar and the colors. Simple but elangant. The service is very good. The different beer and those that we tried were really good. We got some sanduíches, they were ok but could be better, the ketchup chips were too seasoned to my taste.

Stopped in for Sunday brunch for the first time in a while, and was sadly not impressed. We ordered the smash burger and the fried chicken sandwich, along with a side of fries since the fried chicken sandwich doesn’t come with anything on the side. The burger was quite good - great bun, nicely seasoned patty, generous amount of crispy bacon, and a very tasty secret sauce. Fries were also delicious, perfectly golden and crisp. However, the rest of the meal just didn’t live up to expectations. When I asked for vinegar for my fries, it came out in a little metal ramekin rather than a proper bottle, making it difficult to properly sprinkle on my fries. And the fried chicken is inexplicably served between two slices of heavily toasted brioche, which makes it too thick to just pick up and eat, but also too awkward to eat with knife and fork. It’s just a hot mess of a sandwich. The worst part of the meal, though? The side of plain fries cost $8. So be warned… if you want fries, just order fancy fries they have on the menu that come topped with cheese and served with a side of aioli, since they cost exactly the same. Overall there’s lots of room to improve. I know there have been some changes in the kitchen in recent months, hopefully the team can find their groove soon.

We attended Avling restaurant yesterday for dinner and drinks and this place is beyond cool. They grow their own vegetables, spices etc. on the roof and they brew their own drinks in the back brewing area , which were all amazing. The food was incredible. The staff goes all out to make you feel at home. Trish and Sam always had a smile and were very welcoming. Amazing experience I would recommend for everyone to go. Thank you for an amazing evening.

I followed up 3 times and called multiple times over the course of a month and a half to book a wedding date. This was an 80% chance of booking (just needed to verify quote). But for the absolute lack of regard of the event coordinator to even provide a copy and paste reply, this was a sure bet. Absolutely disappointed I m gojng to be explicit here about the excuses I was given when I called: so and so was on vacation, should get back to you soon, I ll let them know. *a week later with no reply* so and so just had a birthday party. F off. I would ve spent $30,000 on you . You can t even be bothered to collect money

Outstanding brunch experience! The decor of the space is cheerful and bright. I was initially skeptical about the twist on Eggs Florentine with rainbow chard, but it exceeded all expectations it was absolutely to die for! We visited for the first time (definitely not the last!) recently with 2 kids under 7 and another family with 2 kids under 5. We were a party of two and got turned away, despite only half the tables being occupied inside and literally only two people on the patio, nor was the bar an option (which also had a few seats available). When we asked what the wait time would be, we were told there s no waiting , though after checking the reservation site after we left, it suggested otherwise. Not sure why we were turned away like this, which left a bad taste for my friend who has never been. And disappointing, because they actually have decent beers and a food menu. Fortunately, there are other breweries in the area with better hospitality.

I would ask that you get chairs that are more accessible for people in larger bodies. The food was awesome, we ended up getting 3 orders of the Brussels sprouts. Good food and excellent beer but not worth what they charge. What annoys me the most is that the default value on the credit/debit pinpad for a tip is 25%. Even in the bottle shop it defaults to 25%. Im not tipping 25% for someone to take cans of beer out of a fridge and put them on the counter. I dont even see why I should have to tip for that at all. I dont mind tipping for bar or table service but to suggest 25% demonstrates how out of control tipping culture has gotten in Toronto.

From classic to Asian fusion, the brunch menu offered various tasty options. The Korean plate with its spicy potatoes and sweet potatoes gave me the kick I needed on this cold winter day. Various beers on tap are also proposed, I went for an ontarian pale ale (calm) which I would recommended. The restaurant is spacious with large glasses letting you see the brewery. I would also recommend for family as they do have a kid menu and the large space and seating area makes the space welcome for little ones. The only thing missing in my opinion was the option of having fresh juices with the brunch and coffee other than the drip option. I would love to come back to try their weekday and dinner menu.

As an Asian person. My taste buds were confused. I appreciate the farm to table concept ..... But its like a mix of random things in the fridge/garden to make a meal. $300 for 4 people is an experience, but ... It was a very confusing and unsatisfying experience. (I never thought I would hate fermented cabbage and chicken breast so much. ) There were some good dishes, but I just dont get it. PS we went home and made a charcuterie board for ourselves cause we were still hungry :(

I cant really give avling any stars as everytime I go in here Im refused service for one reason or another.. 7 months ago the server said she was really busy. And might not get to us for a while.. we left and I didnt go back for a while. 5 months ago I went in with my fiancée for brunch. The server said they were finished serving brunch (@1pm) and that they were getting prepped for Dinner service and no one was being seated until 4:30pm.. ok Thursday night last week I went in at 9:30pm.. I said hi Id just like a cocktail. The server said and I quote oh weve already done last call, because of the rain. At 9:30. On a Thursday. There were many people still in the restaurant. Many.. I guess Avling must be doing well if theyre able to refuse customers so often.. but as a server.. Im shocked.

Avling is a beautiful, spacious restaurant which I found quite refreshing since many restaurants downtown, uptown, midtown wherever are small. I was with a group of 8 which included three kids and a baby, with a massive stroller and there was more than enough room. I ordered the cod tongues (which are pieces of cod fish) battered and sits onto of a mayo/cream coleslaw - I think that is what it was anyways. It was alright. I find that when you deep fry food it loses the flavour so if they sprinkled it with salt or something after they took it out of the fryer, it woulda been great, but it ended up being just okay. I also ordered the not a wedge salad. It was also just okay. It was doused in dressing with was off putting. Its nothing to write home about. I would skip this one. The bacon was overcooked and cold which made it hard. I think if it was served earlier, it being candied would make it taste amazing, but it was alright. I shared a small smorgasbord and again it was okay. I liked the cherries, it was a nice pop of flavour when eating strong cheeses and meats. Again nothing to write home about. Ive heard the brunch is pretty good so maybe I will visit it Avling again for that. It has a brewery on site and thats pretty cool. They have an extensive beer menu and I wanted a blond type beer but my waitress, who was lovely, didnt think they had any and instead suggested a pale ale, which again was meh. The location is good, lots of street parking. If a friend was like, hey where do you want to eat - I wouldnt jump to make reservations at Avling, unless they were going to pay for my meal.

Very cool concept of a restaurant. Not too much choice for a full meal and portions are quite small. Food and drinks were overall very delicious! We ordered lamb burger and flatbread. The portions were a bit small and not much effort in plating or accompaniments, but the ingredients quality and flavours were amazing. Half price oysters, while worth it, is not recommended. Not much info were given on the oysters origin and flavours. The oysters we received are quite small and for some reason, it was drowned in salt water. Please include lemons on the side also. One star decreased for service and atmosphere. They were very friendly. However, they brought us the incorrect drink at first, then the incorrect amount of oysters we ordered. There is also unacceptable amount of fruit flies and larger flies. The bartender was seen zapping flies in the bar while making drinks

Super cute space. V vibes. Great wine and beer menu, youll find something you like no problem. A lot of crafty stuff which we love. Food was also incredible. Underlying Asian influence to the menu, really refreshing and well executed. The drunken chicken - Must get. Shrimp toast - great. Scallop - amazing Smorgasborg - tbh - could skip. didnt feel like everything was flowing.

Our servers Adam and Denize were amazing! My friend and I came in for a casual lunch and we split the oysters, chicken sandwich, fries and a salad. Everything was a 13/10. The sandwich has the fluffiest bread, juiciest chicken and the best sauces I ve ever had. Amazing portions and the sours on tap are refreshing and incredible. The loveliest staff and atmosphere! We went to the restaurant and booked a window table in the afternoon When we came back in the evening the a different waitress told us we could not have that table because she wanted it for a group of 4 , then led us to a small table at the back of the restaurant next to the brewing vats and told us that was all that was available. Needs to say we declined her kind offer and left Fortunately there are several good restaurants in the area and we celebrated my wife s birthday elsewhere and had an excellent meal with a restaurant that actually respects its customers

Ive been wanting to try Avling for a while now, having saved it on my beer bucket list, and Im saddened to say that it was disappointing. My girlfriend and I took our best friend here to celebrate her birthday as shes a big craft beer lover, and we wished it could have been a better experience. To start off, we ordered a bunch of dishes to share, from small plates to mains, but what was strange was they brought out everything at once, making us feel rushed to eat everything, but not in the most enjoyable way as the food got cold quickly having it all sit out. We had the tuna crudo, sausage & pesto flatbread, smorgasbord charcuterie, wedge salad and beer can chicken - it was good, but overpriced. The beers we had were great though and fairly priced for Ontario craft. What made the experience a letdown was the service. Our main server was polite, but not friendly. It was just such a strange vibe - there was a lack in kindness, warmth and customer care that evening. The worst part was when towards the end of the evening, another sever (or he may have been the bartender), came to our table and in an abrasive tone said, in 10 minutes Im going to take away your glasses. That threw us off. No hi or any form of greeting. This was right after another server told us it was last call for the bar at about 10:50pm. 15 minutes later he came and took the glasses and said its time to go. I was shocked. We immediately got up and just left. Ive never experienced this level of rudeness and lack in customer care at a restaurant. There were groups of people next to us, but it didnt seem like they were told the same thing. Maybe they were just having an off night, but while I was so excited to go here and Im sad to say I dont think Ill be back.

I have been to Avling a number of times and loved the food and service but feel something might have changed since the last time I was there (approx a year ago). The atmosphere just felt off. Though the reservations were full the place was pretty empty. We found the server unfriendly. She dropped off water glasses that were dropping wet as I think they were just used. She disappeared for a long time, never offered dessert or other drinks. We ended up leaving right after we ate instead of eating dessert or having more drinks which we had been considering. I gave the review 3 stars for the food. For the food my friend had the scallops which he said were excelled and 2 of us had burgers. The burgers were really good but soggy.

We live in the neighbourhood and visit Avling every 2-3 months or so, and pick up their beers regularly. We used to get really excited to come in for their innovative, high quality food. Even though it was on the pricier side, it was definitely worth it! While we were very sad and disappointed the previous chef left, we wanted to try the new kitchen. Unfortunately it was disappointing. We got there for happy hour and ordered mainly from their Bites menu plus the cod tongue, and planned to order more if the food was good. Overall, the foods were more fried than expected, and doused in sauce, so much so it was hard to taste the ingredients that I believe would otherwise be so fresh and delicious! The Brussel sprouts/broccoli dish was soggy, being too drenched in sauce. The cod tongue was described on the menu as crispy, but it was thickly battered and soft to the bite, paired with coleslaw that was equally soft & creamy (probably better paired if it were more citrusy/acidic). The croquettes were quite good, but became too much after eating the all the very heavily seasoned dishes. While we could have eaten more food, we decided not to order any more food. We really like the space and were hoping the kitchen improves over time. We do love their new cinq-à-sept happy hour, which includes $6 draught beers and selection of ~$35 bottle of wine.

Attached is my receipt (only ordered appetizers/shareables and drinks for the table of 4 people). We asked if splitting the shareables on the receipts would be any trouble - we were told it wasnt any trouble. I didnt catch the mistake of our bill being split 3 ways instead of 4. I paid an extra ~$10 because of this (also I wasnt eating with people I know well). Earlier in the dinner, we found a long hair in the Ontario burrata dish, but we decided not to notify staff because we know how tired they must be at the end of the day but now I wish I voiced that issue! :(

Avlings Disregard for a Senior Patron - A Lone, Disheartening Experience I am deeply troubled by the treatment my mother received during her solo visit to Avling at 1042 Queen Street East, Toronto. Avling, an establishment that prides itself on connecting to Canada s regenerative food system and fostering community values utterly failed to extend these principles to my elderly mother. She was met with stark indifference and ageism, left unattended at the bar without even the offer of a drink or coffee. This neglect is appalling, especially in light of Avlings claim of community engagement and ethical sourcing. The food, which should have been an expression of Canadian landscape and craftsmanship was disappointingly mediocre. Its ironic that a place with a rooftop farm advocating ecological methods shows such disregard for a dignified, senior community member. The gap between Avlings advertised sustainable, inclusive ethos and the actual experience of my mother is not just disappointing but deeply troubling. This incident reflects poorly on Avling, revealing a lack of genuine commitment to the values you espouse. I urge you to reflect on this experience and make earnest efforts to ensure that all customers, regardless of age, are treated with the respect and attention they deserve.

I mentioned that I had been trying to get her attention and asked if she could find a way to honor my order. She starred at me with attitude and then blamed me for not ordering it on time. Food: came for brunch, and we had the Korean Fried Hash and the kids portion of the Smorgasbord. It was very good. I noticed one of the reviews mentioned no butter, but honestly, you didnt need it. Everything had so much flavor, all the components stood out on their own. The yogurt is to die for. Normally I would not order yogurt for brunch, but they should sell jars of this stuff to take home. I will be dreaming about it for weeks. The Korean Fried Hash was flavourful, the potatoes were crispy and buttery on the outside, fluffy and moist on the inside, it had a topping I couldnt place, but it was delicious. Aesthetic: Danish minimalism. They are also growing a variety of plants. I heard one person commenting she saw ginger growing. Service: from the hostess who sat us to the server who brought our food, to one of the chefs who chatted with us, everyone was absolutely lovely.

I think this is probably a good place if youre looking to have a drink or two and maybe an app. But absolutely not somewhere to come for a casual dinner. Dinner menu is wordy and INCREDIBLY underwhelming. It sounds very fancy but in practise the food is just not good. I thought I would treat myself to a $32 (!!!) lamb risotto. It was very meh. Very salty, undercooked and there were literally 2 pieces of lamb in the whole thing. Portion size was small and I left hungry. Not one person in my large party was impressed with the food. No good non-alcoholic drink options. Just fermented small cans of juice that cost as much as a beer (literally). Not a coke or soft drink option. Service I can forgive. I know every place is short staffed due to the pandemic. Our server came to our table only for us to order and to bring our order. No other visits. Had to flag down another server to get our bill. What I cant forgive was them allowing an employee to walk around without a mask. It was busy and she was cleaning up and delivering food/drinks to most tables and chatting. If she had Covid, she wouldve given it to everyone in the place. I thought it was irresponsible and unprofessional and honestly shocking. Its one thing as a patron to be seated closely and be exposed to a couple of people you dont know. Quite another to have an employee expose you to the 40+ other people in the restaurant. Every other server and bartender was wearing a mask, Im not sure why she felt it was ok not to. Definitely something management needs to address. It upset me so much I felt like I needed to leave my first ever review. Im giving them some kudos because the space is nice and my friends who drink enjoyed their beer. But definitely a lot of places with better prices, better food and safer covid practises.

Nice atmosphere, pleasant service and interesting food. However, a heads up to those with food intolerances/allergies! I cant eat gluten due to an autoimmune disorder (I know, why was I at a brewery?!). We ordered the everything bagel potatoes and charcuterie to split as thats what would accommodate my dietary restrictions. They swapped out the sauce for the potatoes so I could order those (which I appreciated, as every menu item needed to be changed to accommodate a gluten free diet). However the charcuterie came out COVERED in bread. And I mean covered. They carefully placed slices of bread over top of the entire platter. Im sure this was an honest mistake and misunderstanding of allergies, however I couldnt eat a single thing on that plate which really sucked. This is a great place to go if you dont have allergies or other dietary restrictions. Genuinely. But if you do, go somewhere else.

Beautiful, open space; mix of industrial and contemporary. Beer selection was excellent. Spinning yarn sour was delicious! The quality of the food is definitely high BUT does not necessarily correlate with the high prices on the menu. It s also difficult to gauge what menu items are dinner portions vs appetizers. The burger is super juicy and flavourful but keep in mind it comes as a stand-alone without any sides. The risotto, the most expensive dish on the menu, didn t quite justify the price. Some of the dishes were also overly salty (for my taste). Good for groups though but expect to pay high prices if you come hungry.

What a unique and unexpectedly delicious combo! 2)BBQ pork bao: was surprised to see it come in the form of a slider! Adding even more to it s uniqueness is that the char siu was flavoured with rhubarb and the buns were made with black sesame. 3) shrimp toast with plum sweet & sour sauce. I did not expect a Chinese pancake like toast when I ordered this but man, it was yummy. The toast features sweet summer snap peas (the green inclusions in the filling). 4)Roasted spaghetti squash with quark cheese and topped with crispy rice?! So good

We love Avling as its one of our main go-to breweries in the area (and there are lots of them). The space is fantastic and the beers are awesome with fresh ingredients. The food is high quality but expensive, as theyre trying to tackle more of a fine dining vibe it seems. So dont go in expecting normal pub/brewery food. The staff are all awesome and friendly and were glad to be regulars.

I expected more. The beer was great. The space is amazing. The food is ok. Expensive for the size of the portions. Inventive, but the invention doesn t come together in every item. You should go and try for yourself. I won t be back, which is not really a criticism of this place, but because there are so so many better places to eat yummies in Toronto.
