Bardi's Steak House in Toronto

My wife and I were in Toronto for a corporate event and we walked into this downtown restaurant at 7:30 pm on a Saturday (Sept 28 open til 10pm) and asked for a table for 2. We were told to wait a moment by the lady at the front who appeared to be shocked at our request, and before she could take 2 steps this guy walks up to us (manager or owner I presume) and coldly told us we are not accepting anymore guests tonight, we are full as I stood there staring at a half empty restaurant. We were obviously not welcome there. We do not recommend this arrogant restaurant.

I see that a manager provided a reply, indicating that menu was only off by $2 between open table and in restaurant. That s not the problem we were given a menu and it matched the website for the $37 steak special, however it was removed indicating that that s not available on the weekends and the website says nothing to that fact, so that s a $30 difference not $2. We asked them to honor it with 6 people who already sat down and ordered drinks and they wouldn t so we left. Don t waste your time, menu on website not even close to menu in restaurant. We were a table of 6 and walked right out, scam restaurant.

The place is an old school restaurant, nothing fancy but classic, food is just ok, food wise don t expect anything fancy or flavorful, we when there just because it was (a little chilly) and needed a place close to our hotel to get a meal and honestly, nothing to be excited about, gotta trust google.

One of the best Steakhouses in Toronto... perfect Service also!

Big, big disappointment!!! Ordered Bardi s Special, a 20oz ribeye w/ bone and the striploin, both medium rare. Steaks came out cold, dry and medium-well. Ribeye bone wasn t big at all and yet, there was far less meet than what you d expect for 20oz! Also, Caesar Salad wasn t any good; tasted like bottled dressing. No wonder there was only 1 other table besides us! Won t be going back definitely!

Admittedly I was hesitant to book a business dinner based upon some of the negative reviews. Our experience was nothing but positive. The staff were exceedingly friendly (and funny), and extremely attentive. Food and drinks were all excellent. Yes, the decor may be considered by some to be run down but they are not understanding the old school steak house vibe of this restaurant. Highly recommend.

It was a vibe, the server Eugene was amazing and had great recommendations. Food is pricey but it is a great low key stake house with an amazing wine collection.

I ve been to Bardi s a few times now and it s always a great experience. Whether you are going for a date, with some friends or a bachelor party they have you covered. The service is always incredibly and Jamie is the best. Always greets me by name and does a great job of making you feel important. The food is absolutely terrific, the steaks are always cooked to perfection. I also recommend the shrimp cocktail, the size of the shrimps are massive. The decor is slightly outdated but it s definitely your traditional steakhouse which I love. It s also conveniently located steps from union station and near Scotiabank arena so it s a great stop before a game. I will 100% be returning again as soon as possible. Highly recommended .

Amazing food with amazing service!

Toronto is sleeping on this spot! Its been here for a very very long time, the food and the service are unparalleled. This is a real deal old school steak and upscale meal spot. I try to arrange my business dinners here whenever I can and enjoy seeing first time guests morph from being a bit reticent upon seeing the decor (could use an update) to utter delight as soon as they meet the waiter and have their first bite. There arent a lot of spots that offer family style steak service anymore; theyve always been so amazing with me to create a family service from anything on the menu. Dont skip the cheese bread, either! Bardis is on the higher end for cost, but you absolutely get what you pay for. Places like this are what make Toronto unique and worth visiting!

Bardis hasnt been relevant since Ella Fitzgerald walked in! If you are looking for a decent meal at a good/decent steakhouse price go to Bardis. If you actually want a great meal, go to just about(minus 1 or 2 obvious ones) every other steakhouse in the city. Harbour 60 and Hys are close by and are way better. Its 2024 Bardis you guys need a whole new redo top to bottom!

Its a little outdated inside but what a meal we had. Drinks food and service was all great. I had a 35oz steak and it was so delicious. My friends all had different cuts of meat not as big, they all really loved the food. 6 men 7 appetizers of course mains as well a bottle of wine many drinks. $200 a person including tip. We also had desert.

This is the worse meal we ve ever had. The steak was horrible (we ordered medium well and it was beyond burnt) the potato was a disaster and the waiter s attitude was terrible then to top it off no crème brûlée either. The crab cakes were the best thing in the whole restaurant. Parking: Parking entry is close then you get lost underground

Bardis was such a great experience. My girlfriend and I went there for lunch and we were taken care of by Jamie who was such an excellent host. He is a charismatic and down to earth person who served our meals & drinks in a timely manner. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the fries were also really good. A great spot for great food and even greater people!

Waiters are very snobby, out with the old and in with the new! They clearly hate being there and ruined what could have been a great meal.

The food and service at this restaurant were excellent! Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, and the dishes we tried were expertly prepared and absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!

Our second time to Bardis and will be the last time. Went there for lunch in October and it was pretty ok. However, today was beyond aweful. No wonder why the restaurant had only 2 tables between 12 and 2 pm including us. I ordered exactly same thing - The Ontario steak. Funny that they do not have dish size but I did not ask since I knew it was the same with last time. BUT the steak was like half of the size from before, perhaps less than 4 oz. I ordered well done but it was 50% burnt and very dry. I had half left in the plate and was starving that I stuffed myself with french fries which was also burnt mostly. The waiter was very unprofessional. He was mumbling all the time that we could barely hear what he said but well ,fine. My glass had full of lipstick print on the edge. It was so gross and when I called him, he took away without saying a word. We asked for some bread which was usually provided before steak comes. Until we asked, he did not bring anything; when asked, he brought some old bread - used to be sourdough... Not sure what happend to this restaurant. We all understand that inflation hits pretty bad but doesnt have to shrink the food quality and service this much while charging more and more!

The service wasnt very good at least from my experience and they didnt cook my steak that well after I asked for well done.

Classic steakhouse atmosphere, but your money is better spent at Barbarians. Service was off on too many occasions to be excused or overlooked - especially timing (its called surf & turf, not turf and lobster for dessert). Frustrating refusal for separate bills or payments of different amounts for a party of six. Excuses about not having a computer are insulting and only confirm staff laziness and entitlement. When your last interaction with your waiter is them nearly ripping their own tip themselves out of your wallet before unceremoniously disappearing, youll know there is no need to return.

I got the Bar-bque back ribs and mash potatoes. My wife got the surf and turf. Everything was delicious. I recommen getting the mash potatoes as they taste amazing. The steak was cook perfect and taste great. Ribs are a bit messy but overall still tasty. We also share a The fried calamari witch was about average tasting.

Old school steaks missing flavour... Steak was similar to other traditional style steakhouse but lacking a bit of flavour. If you like basic seared ribeye style cooking then I can see the value. Service was acceptable but not over the top... Value I would give to other steakhouses I have tried nearby

A business lunch

Enjoyed a very nice lunch with some colleagues from work. The shrimp are amazing.

Went a few nights ago for a NYE dinner. No special menu/prix fixe but that was alright. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server, an older gentleman who seemed like he didnt want to be there, took our drink order. My girlfriend ordered a cocktail called a Last Word. A not often heard of, but simple cocktail. Without missing a beat our server said A what? No, we dont do weird stuff here.. Not Ill see if the bartender can do that or Could you tell me whats in that? Just a flat out refusal. From there we ordered our food which came out promptly and was actually very nice, if a bit dated in its presentation. Crab cakes with a mango salsa, a cold smoked salmon plate, and we both had the NY steak for our mains. Now, when I say dated I mean the plates could have been from a fine dining book from around 1997. The steak had just a simple plating with the meat, side and a cherry tomato and sprig of parsley for garnish. No jus, no veg. As I looked around, I couldnt help but notice the small things that made the whole experience feel a little cheap. Theres a large cabinet fixture in the middle of the restaurant, likely holding various supplies, but the handles and doors are all very worn and faded. The wood paneled wall we were seated beside had dust all in between the slats and on the sill. And, for some reason, all other tables had candles but ours had a beside lamp with an ugly shade. On the whole, the restaurant (decor, service, food) has an air of Weve been here since 1966 and were still here, so why improve? And I have to say it was a little disappointing. I understand that with covid precautions and protocols, service can be interrupted or altered, but I have a strong feeling that the problems at Bardis started long before.

Cute atmosphere and friendly service a little forgetful, unfortunately the french onion soup was pretty salty and the opposite as the calamari was under salted. Overall it was ok I think that there s definitely better options in Toronto.

Very disappointed with the level of service, as the waiter came across as pompous, rude, and lacking the time of day to answer our questions. Also a major red flag that they did not include refills on soda, thats standard in Canada and I was appalled when told that they would not top up my diet coke. As expected, the steaks were great, but the overall experience left a sour taste in my mouth. Also, skip the Brussel sprouts.

Sickening. Host was a pompous old man who couldn t be bothered to look up from counting his tips for 5 minutes when we walked in. When we FINALLY earned his attention and asked for a table for cocktails and appetizers, the response was a curt I don t think so. I hope there s a dent on the outside of the building from where I threw the door open upon leaving.

Best Steakhouse in Toronto! The waiter was very kind and the Steak was BEYOND 5 stars! Would recommend to anyone looking for a fancy dinner. Keep up the great work!

Met with some clients and had a great experience. Warm and quiet environment with a solid menu. The steaks had a perfect cook on them, sides were fresh and it all tasted good.

My son and I just shared a delicious meal at this wonderful restaurant. I believe our server s name was Eugene (quiet blond guy) and he was fantastic. The scallops were the best I have ever tasted. We also enjoyed the steak with mushrooms and steamed veggies. We finished with some chocolate cake and cheesecake. Every bite was outstanding and we cannot wait to go back!

Delicious food in a very traditional plce

Steak house is not my first choice to go out for dinner as much as I love steak its just two simple in flavour profile my coworkers wanted to get a steak that night and we choose Bardis. However even though I ordered some of the cheapest stuff in the menu, striploin I believe and ceaser salad, and their in house chocolate desert. Nothing blew my mind but it the steak was cooked perfect and buttery smooth, salad and desert were delicious as well. Service was old school and very professional even if we werent dropping ad much $ as the others in the room. I would recommend it if youre looking for a good steakhouses downtown.

Classic old school steak house, great food, great service, classic looking joint. You never know who you may run into when visiting this establishment. Prime Ministers, CEOs, actors and athletes frequent this place due to the great food.

Ordered takeout here for the first time yesterday for Valentines day. As you can see in the photo, presentation was below average for the price paid and class of restaurant as well as portion size was minuscule, especially the two salads - the take out containers were giant but no where near filled. Also, the baked potato that came with my steak was a joke. It was one giant potato, nothing added to it, wasnt even cut in half - I did that myself. The taste was good, but pretty average despite the price. This is why I am rating Bardis two stars.

First time ordered through Doordash. Food was good but presentation was poor. While I understand that delivered food is difficult to present but Bardis lost 2 stars for not even trying.

Save your money, time and outfit. Atmosphere is not modern very old looking. Waiter sat us we were not offered a wine list /drink menus at our table. The waiter did the bare minimum, not really checking in until we asked for the bill. The wine list/ drink menu was not digital here as most establishments have converted to digital menu due to covid. I could see it being passed around to other tables around us. I ordered the peasant salad and surf and turf. My steak was so salty it was the equivalent to high blood pressure in a plate. Our dinner came up to 200$ for our table of two, which is normal for a good steak dinner .

Steaks are amazing as always but interior hasnt changed in many many years and they havent adapted well to COVID safe dining.

The environment is small but cozy and romantic, the staffs, owner and waiters were very friendly and welcoming. We tried Cheese and Garlic Toast that was delicious, Wolfhead Cold Smoked Atlantic Salmon (picture), it was very good too and the largest shrimps you ve ever tried (Shrimp Cocktail). The stake was good as well.

**UPDATE** Came here again tonight for my bfs birthday. I had a few requests which they actually did! I requested 2 glasses of wine to be ready at the table for our reso with the shrimp bardis appetizer, and they came through! My bf was very thankful and surprised! Dinner was beyond amazing thank you guys for helping to make this night super special for us. Everything was perfect! I love that they are attentive and welcoming. They even let us take a photo with the beautiful cellar! We will always come back here. They have a digital menu, sign in for contact tracing, sanitizer, and everyone follows the covid protocols. :) Staff are extremely pleasant. The food is beyond amazing. I had the bardis special. A giant rib steak (bone in) and had the shrimp bardis as an appetizer. Their wine selection is out of this world. The zinfindel was a nice pairing to the steak. Overall simple yet beautiful place to eat. Thank you Bardis!

Excellent filet mignon with bernaise

I have eaten at so many restaurants in Toronto but this right here my friend is a gem. I initially thought the menu was expensive as I m really a steak guy. I eventually ordered the Bardi chef special and boy! Was that the best thing I ve eaten this year. Soft, buttery, juicy and lovely. Henceforth, I m not interested in mid class restaurants like Joey s and Moxies and co as those steaks are really just beef I can make at home. It s go hard or go home!! I have seen the light, you should see it too!

Service was 5-star. We avoided beef and werent disappointed; poultry and seafood were great. Chris is a real professional; service attentive but not intrusive. My lovely niece raved about chicken done to perfection. Well be back. P.S. best dinner bread Ive had in a very long time.

My hubby and I are in Toronto for the weekend celebrating his birthday and this restaurant was absolutely amazing. Beautiful atmosphere, charismatic and friendly staff that felt like they really wanted to be there! The food was to die for, the most delicious steak Ive had and you have to try the brussel sprouts! A wonderful meal topped off perfectly by our delightful waiter delivering a piece of spectacular chocolate moose cake complete with candle for us to share of course in celebration of my hubbys birthday would recommend all day everyday and will be back when in Toronto! You will not be disappointed.

Quick service, very friendly stuff, delicious food they have, this is my last day to stay at Toronto and i was looking for good steak with garden salad as a lunch and finally founded in Bardis steak, definitely i will come there again if i return back to Toronto

This is an excellent place with unmatched steak anywhere in the world...I have travelled the world so I know. The staff did a private wedding dinner for us and were exceptional! Christopher and Manuel were attentive and on top or everything and made us feel welcome and that they would do anything to meet the needs of our group. This place is a bit pricey but you need to pay for the best....and this is the best! Ambiance and décor is also excellent! We will come back!

A bit dated inside so it needs a renovation. Steak was good however expensive....took a while to make a medium steak on a Saturday night before the leaf game.

One of the best restaurants Ive ever been to. The staff is very friendly and courteous, service was amazing! The filet mignon was perfect, best Ive ever had. And the dessert was delicious! Would highly recommend this place! (Reservations recommended as this restaurant may be busy)

Thank you to Bardi s for helping to make our Anniversary special even in these perilous times. We ordered takeout steak dinners, and they made it extra special and added a lovely piece of mousse cake. Even though these are awkward times, our meal was special.

Ribs are overpriced with good sauce. Chicken breast could be better with basmati rice. Asparagus was good.

I was disappointed with Bardis Steakhouse. I dont think there was anything really wrong with the place, but I do think there are better steakhouses in Toronto that you can go to for the same amount of money you may spend at Bardis. I had the New York Cut, rare, with fries. They do not have a mashed potato option, so I was a bit disappointed with that. However the fries were tasty. As for the steak, it was a good steak, it was cooked exactly as I wanted. The steak did taste like it had a lot of salt on it, however I do like salt so that did not bother me. If you dont like a lot of salt then maybe this steak is not for you. I also had the French onion soup. It was also good but once again maybe a bit heavy on the salt. I did not have desert as the creme brulee was not available and the rest of the deserts didnt really apeal to me. Overall I think Bardis is a good restaurant but nothing really spectacular. I do think that the prices are a bit high for what you get... And for that reason I will probably pick other steakhouses that are similarly priced but provide a better experience.

First time in Toronto and this was the first restaurant I went to. The food is very good with very quick and attentive service. The food is not necessarily memorable but is of good quality with decent presentation. I wouldnt object to a second visit.

I was pleased with Bardis. I paid the price for an expensive meal, expected excellent food and service, and feel that is exactly what I got. My ribs were delicious, service was very attentive, and generally I felt the experience was distinctly superior to what I would get from a less expensive restaurant.

Nice spot downtown with a great T bone steak!

We really enjoyed the meal, and they were very accommodating since we didnt have reservations. My steak was quite tough and chewy despite being cooked properly at medium rare, however.

Great food. Pricey menu. Very dated.

DONT BOTHER!!! I ordered a 10oz New York Strip ($54) last night along with rice and mushrooms. The steak was tender (but too salty), the rice was bland and the waiter forgot to order the mushrooms! A steak without mushrooms is like summer without the sun. There were only 2 or 3 tables being served including mine. Apology accepted but no excuses for missing such a standard accompaniment. They suggested I wait for the mushrooms but then my steak wouldnt have been at the right temperature. I ate my meal, didnt give a tip, and walked by Earls which was packed with people on the way to my destination. Hmmm.....

A long time fixture on the Toronto retaurant scene, this is a restaurant which knows how to cater to its customers. Always impeccable, unobtrusive service. The steaks are always excellent and perfectly cooked. Unfortunately, they are getting pricey but whos arent these days. If Im in Toronto and have a red meat craving, Bardis is my first choice.

The service here is great and despite their high prices, the staff really do not try to up your bill. They had great suggestions and were knowledgeable about their offerings. The steak was delicious. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. Baked potatoes with trimmings served at the table was a nice touch. Side vegetables (brussel sprouts and asparagus) was oily but tasty. Not giving this 5-stars because their menu and prices online is not the same as in the restaurant (not way off, but it should be accurate), and because the price is far higher than other steakhouses and the higher quality did not really justify the huge premium.

Service excellent! If you want to try different selection of wines. This is he place. Just tried the tomahawk steak that they cooked it to perfection!

Impolite service. Dont order their steak diane. They just throw a slab of sirloin on a frying pan, add some wine and flame it. Tough, and served with raw veggies? THATS NOT STEAK DIANE. The veggies should be pan fried and flamed with the steak and not a slab, but with strips of a fine steak. Stay away from this place, not worth the money, not worth the food and certainly not worth the service.

Bartender is rude and uptight. Dont come here if youre looking for a casual drink.

Old world charm and great food.

We were walking to the Royal Alex from our hotel hoping to stumble on a place for dinner. As soon as we walked out of the hotel it started raining and Bardis was right there so we went in and are very happy that we did! The wine list is impressive, the seafood chowder & Shrimp Bardi that I had was excellent. My husband had the beef bourguignon and he didnt need the knife they brought him to cut it with. It was a lovely meal, a bit pricy but you get what you pay for. We will definitely be going back the next time were in town.

The fist impression when you access the restaurant is like the place is a little bit outdated, but dont judge the book by its cover. They have a limited number of cuts in the menu but the quality of the meat is excellent and its cooked to perfection. The sides of mushrooms and Brussels sprouts are also really good. The sommelier, Jaime, has been recommending wines to customers for 30+ years in a row and has a vast knowledge of wines from all regions (not only in North America but also from many regions of Europe). Let him recommend the wine based of your favourite bottles and you wont be disappointed. Overall, an amazing dining experience at Bardis.

Good food, attentive servers, extensive wine list, but be prepared to pay for it....easily $200 PP with drinks and a bottle of wine

It was my first visit for a business meeting and I kinda liked this place. The ambience is very pleasant, staff is amazing. Only had a seafood chowder and its nice, will explore more options in the next visit.

Overpriced for poorly cooked steaks.
