2250 Queen St E, Toronto, ON M4E 1G2, Canada
Relaxed Japanese eatery that specializes in ramen noodle soup, with vegetarian options available. Every ramen dish is served with homemade noodles. Pair off the ramen noodle soup with a variety of appetizers and drinks.
Sub-par ramen, which is to be expected of this area of Toronto. Broth was good, but that's about it. Ramen noodles were soggy, sloppy, and lacked any bouncy chew that ramen noodles are supposed to have. Charsu meat wasn't very tender or flavourful. While food was disappointing, restaurant itself was a cute spot and had a laid-back, charming ambience. Unfortunately because there's so little competition, Hokubo is pretty much all the ramen we'll get in the neighborhood. Not sure if the people who are giving it 5 stars ever had actually good ramen...
Best ramen I've ever had in my life. Quality ingredients, seasoned perfectly and the black garlic broth is the best I've ever had! Will come back.
My go-to ramen place. Wasn't even a big fan of ramen until I ate here and now I can't get enough. The ultimate comfort food! The staff and quality of food are always consistent. Black garlic miso + beef (pictured) is my fav
I visit the place Friday afternoon not so crowded, the server is very welcoming and helpful. Table is spacious and private. Tonkotsu ramen and Takoyaki is really good
My husband really wanted ramen for lunch today. First time here and we will most definitely be back. The broth was excellent, not too oily and the flavor was so authentic and really delicious. Very generous portions and the owners are so very sweet and attentive. Best ramen we have had in a long time! The wood interior is also very warm and welcoming.
This ramen spot offers a pleasant dining experience with its exceptionally friendly staff and wonderful atmosphere. While it's a worthwhile visit, I personally believe there are better ramen options available in the area. However, it still stands out for its inviting ambiance.
No need to head downtown, Markham, our Richmond Hill for really good ramen anymore! This is the spot in The Beaches for a great meal! What a cozy, relaxed, and welcoming atmosphere, with such warm, friendly service. (Thank-you for being so welcoming, Bob & Hannah!) The chicken gyoza are quite flavourful, and the rice soboro was very satisfying. The fresh in-house ramen noodles were fantastic! We're so thankful that they could accommodate our allergies, and made suggestions for other options! We really appreciate such thoughtfulness! I know you'll enjoy your time here!
A true hidden Beaches gem if there ever was one! Everything from the chicken gyoza to the sweet chili chicken karaage to the yakisoba was cooked to perfection! Add top tier professional service and a warm cozy atmosphere, and you've got yourself a place more than worth coming back to!
We ordered two dishes and neither tasted authentic, taste was also mediocre at best unfortunately. Dont believe this place is authentic.
Spicy miso Ramen was incredible!
Great ramen. Went here on a whim and totally fell in love. Service is great and the restaurant itself is very cozy. A hidden gem on Queen SE!
Very nice staff and the food was excellent. One of our party is celiac and the lady went above and beyond to make sure none of their ingredients contained allergens before serving. I appreciated the extra effort. Thank you!
Very cute and laid back spot. Service was excellent and the soup was decent. Tan tan was rich and well seasoned. The agedashi tofu was absolutely perfect.
What a fantastic place! The food was so fresh and flavorful. I left feeling the most satisfied. I highly recommend this gem!
We ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen and the Black Tonkotsu Ramen, and both were absolutely delicious. The Spicy Miso had the perfect balance of heat and flavour, while the Black Tonkotsu was rich, creamy, and packed with umami goodness. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and the toppings were fresh and flavourful. The ambiance was cozy, and the staff was friendly and attentive. Definitely a must-visit for ramen lovers can t wait to come back and try more from their menu!
Best ramen in the city. Tasty broth and great ingredients. King Black Tonkotsu is my go-to.
amazing thank you
This was our first visit, and we wanted very much to like this place. However, it was a bad experience. We ordered two ramens- spicy miso and vegetarian shio. The miso ramen was missing the nori, and the shio ramen was missing the nori and the narutomaki, so basically half the ingredients outside of the noddles. Also, the bok choy was was almost completely raw. Overall, the shio broth was very bland and the added tofu was completely tasteless, as it was not cooked or seasoned in any way. A complete waste of money and a big disappointment. Also, the staff did not seem to be able to communicate effectively in English, so it was difficult to leave any feedback. We will not be back and will go back to Kyouka Ramen a few doors down for a much better experience.
I visited this place food was really good and atmosphere and service was awesome. Hailey was really kind and patience taking our order and explaining us always has smile and sweet way of talking. The food came and it was really good i order vegetarian ramen best ramen i ever had in this area. I visited few other nearby restaurants but i think here was the best. I recommend everyone to try this out
The best Ramen in Toronto! Cozy place and the best food Food
Great spot on Queen St. We had Gyoza and the ramen. All were delicious. Service was quick and pleasant.
The food is exceptional and the employees are very kind, it can be out of the way but the miso ramen is completely worth it
Got out of my food comfort zone and tried this restaurant , 10/10 recommend! They have amazing food and friendly service !
Very tasty dishes
The best ramen!
Legit shio and shoyu ramen. No need to go downtown. Excellent service and price is good.
Honestly this place is amazing!
Best ramen ever! I had the one with black garlic oil.
Great ramen! Great food! Great ambience! Better service!
Love the ramen here, tastes authentic and the place has a really nice vibe. The waiters are always so nice. 100% my new go to place! Although I would appreciate it if they served a full egg rather than half an egg... But otherwise, love the ramen broth and everything
The best ramen!!! The staff is so nice there as well.
Spicy bull ramen is definitely spicy but so good! The sweet chilli chicken karaage is very light and delicious! We will definitely be returning!
Everything Ive tried at this place has been absolutely delicious! The best thing in my opinion is the black tonkotsu ramen. It just goes to show once you go black you never go back lol!
Very shocked and mad to see just 2 pieces of THIN and DRY pork and half a hard boiled egg on top of a regular size tonkotsu (pork bone soup) ramen. Soup was much like the msg in instant noodles. We ordered it about 3 weeks ago after seeing its wonderful reviews and photos online. Then they charged $16.50 for 1 ramen in such poor quality!! Karage (fried boneless chicken) were small pieces coated by thick flour coating only. This restaurant is totally failed in using Ramen as its name!! It is just ripping the customers off!!
Amazing food!!! Can t recommend more.
Great athmosphere, very nice service and excellent food.
If youre in the Beach area and craving some ramen, youll love Hoboku. I had their Hoboku ramen and it was amazing. Noodles were super fresh and the broth was amazing.
Fresh handmade noodles! Amazing service and after a big bowl of ramen you can walk by woodbine beach :) ALSO best miso I ve tried!!
Strongly recommens if you want authentic japanese Ramen
Top notch service and food! 100% coming back!
Amazing food, great portions and the friendliest staff in the beaches! A refined and cozy ramen shop! Will definitely be coming back Dietary restrictions: Very accomodating for dietary restrictions
Amazing.
Uh., where has this been?! Their Miso is to DIE for. Im still here, half asleep, writing the review. I couldnt wait to let everyone know this is a great Miso spot! Please, come, enjoy the delicious food and atmosphere.
Really glad to have this Ramen restaurant in the neighbourhood! Interior decor is cute and menu is extensive. Had the King Shoyu, will be returning
Delicious ramen! A bit pricier ($17 for the one I got) but well worth it
Service was sweet. The tonkotsu broth is very flavourful. I would have preferred harder noodles but still very tasty. Karaage serving is small for the price. The seating setup is great for cozy indoor dining.
Ramen and Tonkatsu plate were delicious, service was great. Will be back
We came here for dinner and had a great time. The food was amazing and so was the service and decor.
Sadly, Not the best ramen I had. friendly staff. Food
Just delicious! The fresh noodles are delicious. Al- dente processed plebs take a backseat!
A delicious ramen restaurant. I liked it because it wasnt salty compared to other ramen restaurants. The taste and atmosphere are good. The owner was friendly and I had a comfortable meal.
I would posit that this is the best ramen restaurant in eastern Toronto and perhaps beyond. As we all know the broth is sacrosanct to a good ramen. The broth found here is superior to the other ramen restaurant located just down the street. Superior to a popular ramen restaurant on Broadview near Danforth. No doubt about it, the next time I have a hankering for ramen Ill be visiting Hokubu. PS I had the King Ramen with x3 spicy. Very much on the high end of spicy. Really good.
Very home style ramen, very large menu to be honest that offers lots of options. Noodles are a tad softer than I would prefer.
Delicious!!
Soggy noodles :(
This is the best ramen place I ve found in Toronto . Worth the trip to the beaches
What a lovely find. The staff was kind and attentive. The food was very flavorful and prepared quickly. Will definitely be going back often. If youre like me and like spicy, get the bull ramen.
Another great place for ramen. Good service.
Salmon Poke bowl was delicious! Ramen was delicious too. Staff is so sweet. Local and family owned, was lovely.
I am happy that this business moved in recently. The food is very good, not amazing, but very good and consistent. The staff is very friendly and attentive. There is no here is your food, wave me down for anything else after nonsense here (other restaurants dont check up on you and expect you to bring your butt to the counter to pay when youre done). A common problem I find at ramen restaurants is that the amount of protein you get is just not sufficient. They know this because there is always the long list of options on the menu to add more protein. Hokubu also offers a BIG RAMEN, which bypasses this dumb game of offering a standard meal that will leave a Canadian man feeling hungry again an hour after he eats, unless he pays for various upgrades. I realize that the big ramen is just the same thing worded differently, but somehow their solution feels right to me :).
Lovely ramen bar, I had the black garlic tonkotsu and it was fantastic. So rich, creamy and aromatic. Will definitely be coming back for more! Vegetarian options: My wife asked for the tantan ramen to be made vegetarian and they did a great job accommodating the request.
Yuuuummmm, what a good find! Ramen is my favourite food and I was not aware of this gem in the Beaches. So glad I found it and Ill definitely be coming back. We had the black garlic ramen and the tantan ramen which they were able to make vegetarian!
Excellent and authentic Japanese Ramen.
Finally! I can enjoy ramen without going too far from home/East Side . I got the chicken gyoza and Nagasaki Champon and everything was delicious! The customer service is also amazing and Ill definitely be visiting again.
Family had an amazing time!
Much better than Kyouka next door, which really has gone downhill since the original Chef left.
Amazing spicy ramen, great service and atmosphere. We will def be back soon! Highly recommend
Ok.....so Sansotei is my all time fave in the city but this place has tied it. I tried it for the first time & the noodles are out of this world. They are made in house. Broth was good. The egg was not gummy/runny. I will definitely be back!! I would give it a 4.7.
Our go to Ramen restaurant was closed so we decided to walk around & saw Hokubu Ramen. Delicious! Excellent variety. Friendly attentive service. So happy we discovered it!
Some of the best Ramen I have eaten in the city. Seriously, was very impressed and rivalled some of the Ramen straight from Japan. Ordered KING NETSU RAMEN & SPICY BULL RAMEN. The King Netsu was fantastic with a delicious smokey flavour. Ordered take-out and the service over phone was fantastic and woman was very pleasant and helpful. During pick-up, noticed ambience inside was wonderful (lots of families eating dinner together). This will be my go-to Ramen place going forward.
From the moment my friends and I walked into the restaurant, we were greeted by a welcoming atmosphere that set a positive tone for the entire visit. The interior of the place was aesthetically pleasing, with a warm and cozy ambiance that made me feel right at home. The food was absolutely delectable, showcasing a perfect balance of flavors and textures. We tried both the ramen and the poke, and each dish was prepared to perfection. The ramen had a rich and savory broth, complemented by perfectly cooked noodles and a variety of fresh toppings, however the meat was slightly overcooked. The poke bowl, on the other hand, was a vibrant medley of fresh fish, vegetables, and a flavorful sauce that tied everything together beautifully. What really stood out to me, however, was the level of service provided by the staff. Every single staff member I interacted with was incredibly polite, professional, and attentive to my needs. They made sure that our dining experience was seamless from start to finish, and their genuine kindness added a special touch to the evening. I left the restaurant feeling completely satisfied and with a heart full of positive emotions. The combination of the delightful atmosphere, scrumptious food, and outstanding service made for a memorable dining experience. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone who s a fan of ramen and poke, or to anyone simply looking for a great place to eat. You will not be disappointed.
Awesome spot for fresh delicious Ramen! So happy to have this in the neighborhood. Please dont change! :)
This is my second time coming here now, and it surely didn t disappoint. It s a nice little ramen shop on Queen St E by the Beaches. The server is really nice and constantly made sure that we were doing okay, constantly filling our water glasses. The first time we came here, my girlfriend wanted specific toppings on a different broth and they were able to accommodate that, which is nice that you can customize your bowl instead of simply choosing a set bowl or dish! +1 points for that Now the food, mad tasty but doesn t feel too greasy like other ramen spots. I was hungry so I got the King Black Tonkotsu, which is a bigger bowl than the regular one, with more noodles and more toppings. This is like a supersized regular Black Tonkotsu for only $4 more. It s a rich and creamy pork bone broth with black garlic oil. I rate the dish a 9/10. My girlfriend got the Netsu Ramen. It has a small spicy kick to it but nothing too spicy, more of a taste. She rates the dish an 8.5/10 I really like the taste, it s not too salty and it still gives a fresh taste at the end of each bite. It s a salt based broth, but wasn t too salty where you d get tired of the flavour. Overall we enjoyed, and we ll be coming back! Parking: Parking on Queen St E
This is the best Ramen in the beach. I used to enjoy the other option but after eating here I can t go back.
The creamy veggie Ramen is absolutely delicious. The broth is light, yet creamy and smoky, the bok choy is crisp and tasty and the noodles are velvety smooth. My son loves the tonkatsu ramen. This is 100% our favourite ramen restaurant. Vegetarian options: The creamy veggie ramen is amazing. I think they may have a few more vegetarian options too.
Having read so much about ramen in travel magazines I always wondered what the hype was about. After eating at Hokubu I no longer do. The food was fantastic, the service on point and friendly. A great introduction to ramen and I cannot wait to go back.
Excellent place for Ramen! Good choice of broth bases that are amazingly flavorful. The chicken Karaage is delicious and would recommend here.
