Insomnia Restaurant and Lounge in Toronto

I had a truly delicious dinner. The meat was slightly salty, but the salad balanced it out perfectly. The sauce was incredibly flavorful, and the atmosphere was just wonderful. I highly recommend this place, especially for couples. It s a great spot to enjoy a lovely meal together!

Went to Insomnia for our company Christmas Dinner on Dec.10.2024. A total of six persons. We had a great table by the window. Food was delicious. Service was great. We had people in our group that were vegan and vegetarian and the choices for these options were great. Will definitely be going back. Vegetarian options: Many options for vegan and vegetarians that were in our group. Dietary restrictions: Many different gluten free options

It is a great place to have brunch in Toronto.

Probably the best meal we had in Toronto. Salmon was delicious and fresh. I do wish they had poutine on the menu. Even though we came in around 8pm, it wasn t an issue that we had a toddler with us. We were offered a large table so he had space to play. Hands down would recommend this eatery to anyone looking for some authentic Canadian fare. Local beers on tap.

I saw they re did their menu, I miss the Ceasar salad, but still had a great time. Our server was great despite being busy, drinks were good too. They do a really nice French 75 cocktail, also the flaming drink was very cool. They also specials some days, and a drink special every day after 10pm.

Long time patron (use to come at least twice a month). However the new menu misses the mark. Not enough options (especially for weekday brunch) and lack of shareable options. I have tried a few of the new items and they were VERY salty. Sandwiches are really wet and fall apart.

I had the most delicious chicken and waffles! Added the decadence of extra syrup and some hollandaise for dipping - sooo good! We also all shared the special French toast as a birthday cake

i d been meaning to try insomnia for over a year and finally found myself in the neighbourhood wow was it good! went on monday midday for the brunch special and had maybe the best grilled cheese of my life! great portion size for the brunch special price, wonderful and engaging service. place had a great vibe and i will definitely be returning at night to try out their delicious looking cocktail list! 100% worth the stop for any kind of casual eats you could hope for

What an amazing experience. I m in town from BC and was intrigued by insomnia s chic vibe and super talented bar staff. Dara is the best bartender I ve ever had the pleasure of being served by. The cocktails were beautiful, the flare and excitement was exactly what I was looking for on this trip. Phaedra is amazing. Talya is lovely. I ll be coming back to Toronto just for them! Thanks Dara! Totally lives up to its name... morning brunch is super good and the cinnamon flavored coffee is warm and plentiful Not sure about how much I love the ketchup home fries. But the staff is so lovely you dont mind. Perhaps just making the brunch space brighter so that us coffee gollums can work on waking up would be helpful -- especially in the booths and dark corners.

I ate the breakfast burger, heaven on earth, grapefruit mimosa, and pineapple mimosa. It was delicious. It came out to be 79CAD(including the taxes and tip). Service was amazing. Its a popular place so reservations are highly recommended. They have about 2-3 tables that can seat 6+ people and the rest are more date-like seatings. Kid-friendliness: Theres no kids menu. Beyond upset. Booked a birthday brunch and asked for booth seating, they placed us in ridiculous low table seating at the back (a lounge area that s not suitable for eating, couldn t even fit knees under table, supposed to hunch over like I m eating on some coffee table). Server couldn t be bothered to try to find us another place to sit when I mentioned this, told me to ask the front host , like I m supposed to go get up and do that. Been here many times and this was the last straw. Not to mention they ve increased the Eggs Benedict by $2, and have reduced the amount of home fries you get. Laughable. So 0 stars never coming back. Lost a repeat customer.

Love food from this place

Hosted a bday brunch yesterday for 11 people. Food was awesome..but mostly the service was superb!! Our waitress went above and beyond with our large group and took amazing care of us.

Visiting Toronto for a few days and I m fortunate enough to be staying just across the street from this gem. The menu is great, but Mitchell is why I will come back. He went out of his way to help me with a question about local tattoo artists. Such a kind soul. Thank you Mitchell.

I came here for some drinks for happy hour to catch up and hang out and it was such a vibe! Phaedra took care of us and she was an absolute pleasure. Super sweet and attentive. Thank you for making our experience Phaedra! Will be back soon :)

By far the best place in the Annex for brunch, afternoon bites, and evening dinner! Also an amazing place for nightlife! Shout out to Dara, Mitchell, Katie, Thalia, all the late night weekend DJs and all the awesome chill people that make this place feel like a place where you belong will always recommend!

Bray is the best server ever. Atmosphere is always great, no matter how dead/popping it is. We always end up snacking and that s great too!!! Anyways, if you have the privilege of Bray as your server, you will surely have the greatest experience ever.

We came here before a show in the city, and it was amazing. There was what looked like an office party happening in the front, but we were seated in the lounge area where it was a bit more quiet. Despite them being pretty busy, service was super quick, and very friendly. We hung around for a couple of drinks. Would definitely recommend if youre in the area.

This is SUCH a great brunch place!! I came here last Tuesday with a friend, and we had a great experience all around. We ordered the Classic and Isabelle Eggs Benedicts and then split the warm chocolate brownie dessert -- everything was delicious! The prices are reasonable, especially considering how the meal filled us up for the whole day (neither of us had room for dinner several hours later). Our server, Valentina, was also very friendly and attentive! Highly recommend brunch here.

Dont go there, my family and I had a bad experience. Service was ok, but food was very dangerous: one plate had raw fried chicken and the other spoiled tomatoes that made me sick for days.

We were there for brunch and we didn t like the ambience, it was dark and dingy. The place didn t look clean either. The food was ok but the service was good. Wouldn t go there again.

Absolutely loved the sunrise mimosa! The classic breakfast was nice too but the eggs were a bit salty. I also loved the BBQ ketchup sauced used on the homestyle fries. I do recommend reserving as it is a popular place. Luckily we only had to wait about half an hour.

This place was absolutely mouth watering! Highly highly recommend. I got the omelette which was cooked perfectly with the right ingredients. My boyfriend got the waffle and chicken, which I usually don t like, that was perfectly juicy. It was made with chicken thighs. Definitely coming back here.

Very nice brunch with a friendly and welcoming waitress. The Memphis and salmon are very good (slightly lacking in quantity for those with a sweet tooth). I recommend the address.

The huevos rancheros is highly recommended. The sauce is a highlight for the dish accompanied with a wrap bread.

Food and service were fairly good for a Sunday Brunch, but we did have to try a few times to get a servers attention. VERY loud at times, but the feel and art on the walls were great. Cocktails were very spirit-forward, but the Ceasar was excellent for my taste (though a little spicy for someone who doesnt like Tabasco)

A crusher for late night drinks and a snack or two. The staff here is pretty happy go lucky and isn t afraid to send out a shot if it improves vibe quality. Tap list is lager centric but varied, back bar has some cool deep cuts, food is home-y, staff is friendly, open late. They could probably shoot a decent cheers remake here but for overworked millennials.

Ive been coming to Insomnia since the 1990s. While the food is as good as ever, the menu and the service have suffered somewhat since the COVID-19 pandemic started. Wheelchair accessibility: I use a rollator walker rather than a wheelchair. Getting in and out is a minor inconvenience but there is an accessible ground floor washroom.

Inexperienced waiters and managers, slow service, the spot has gone downhill

This is a go to spot for me, been coming here for 6 years now, but unfortunately this time, a very young server, seemingly brand new, put a bit of a damper on the evening for us. Group of 6, she sat us, came back for our orders. She then ID d us all for the drinks, mind you we re all 24-26, 4 out of 6 of us present valid ID, but two of the guys didn t have anything on them, as it was left at the apartment beforehand. She was quite nervous and timid and came back to tell us that she couldn t serve them. But given the rest of our ages on our IDs, (and our physical appearances) you would think she would use her better judgement and realize we re all of similar ages. She looked to be quite young, so it must ve been the lack of experience and confidence, but it was just laughable considering one of the guys has a full grown beard and is veryyyy much mid twenties. We were looking to all have dinner together, and weren t going to just let the two [grown adults] not be able to drink among us, so we left. It was just disappointing and unprofessional, anyone with sense would ve looked at our table and seen we were grown people. And to lose out on what would have been a decent sized bill was even more nonsensical on her part.

Our waitress Brya was the most amazing angel i have ever met. Such a beautiful smile with an even better heart. Her recommendations not only for the drinks and food at insomnia but also her recommendations to other bars and clubs near by was extremely helpful and wise. I will definitely be coming back so excited since every thursday she works!

Very disappointing and disorganized! We checked in as usual and told to wait for 40 minutes for a table of 5. We waited for almost 80 minutes and we were not offered a table, and we checked they kept stalling trying to fit 5 in table for 4. I spoke with supervisor who was unhelpful and showed no empathy. Eventually, we decided to leave as it was clear that there is no table. Wasted our time and paid parking! We end up going to School Restaurant , which was very organized and get a table in no time. Will not go to Insomnia again!

Visited twice for brunch and loved it so much we are planning to visit every week. We had very kind and nice staff these two past times; one of which was an archeology student who was very sweet and helpful.

The service was very good, the waitresses were all very friendly and they adapted my dishes to be gluten-free.

The best martini I ve had in a long time! I had 2! We shared meatball starter. Delicous! The tomato sauce was so good I want to take it home. I also had the trio of tacos. Joel had the burger. Both were yummy. Atmosphere was fun and lively and waitstaff caring. Enjoy!

The food was amazing. The sauces (the one that comes with the potatoes and the hot sauces) that were served appeared to be house made, which always have a special place in my heart. The food presentation was beautiful, the portions well served and everything well seasoned! Delicious! Their French toast can be eaten without worries to be too sugary due to its well balanced lemony flavor. Definitely the star of the show for me.

We ordered the chicken sandwich and the burger of the day deal. Unfortunately we found both to be a touch bland and under-seasoned which was sadly underwhelming for the large price tag. We also ordered drinks, the pineapple mimosa was okay, and their rye drink (I think it was called rye and shine) was a pretty unique twist on an old fashioned. The service definitely bumps my rating up as there was only one waitress working and she was exceptionally competent and friendly; she managed to juggle multiple tables during the lunch rush while also mixing cocktails. Her ability to handle such a fast paced environment with ease was admirable.

My girlfriend and I came here for some drinks on a Friday night, we were seated right away, we only came for a few drinks and Lili was our server and she was amazing, very attentive and assertive. Our experience at Insomnia Restaurant on Saturday morning was extremely disappointing. Despite arriving at 11:23, we were told the wait would be 20 minutes, but it ended up being a staggering 40 minutes before we were even seated. After placing our order, we waited for over an hour while others around us were served promptly. When I finally inquired about our order, the server informed us it would be an additional 15 minutes. So after wasting my whole morning we left. This level of incompetence and disregard for customer service has completely shattered any positive expectations I had for this restaurant. I cannot in good conscience recommend this place to anyone, regardless of how appealing the food may appear

Insomnia never disappoints! The poutine is phenomenal and they re very good with allergies such as gluten free. I have coeliac disease and they are very safe and I have never had any issues. The waitlist for brunch can be long on the weekends, they don t take reservations so just come prepared. They will put you down on a list and text you when a table is ready so you can wander around Bloor until then. Dietary restrictions: Very good at accommodating for coeliac disease I have never gotten sick and I m very sensitive

For years this has been my favourite brunch spot in the city. Prices are reasonable, food is always delicious, and portions are generous. The service is pretty good - anyone I ve ever interacted with here (servers, managers, etc.) have always been pleasant and accommodating. I took my family here for Mother s Day and while it was a bit of a wait for food, it was worth it and we were constantly tended to. Will always recommend this place for brunch and even dinner!

While passing through Toronto, we went to this restaurant which was recommended for its poutine. It was simply perfect, the poutine was excellent with homemade fries, just the right amount of sauce so the fries didnt become soggy and very well-measured cheese. Additionally, the service was exemplary. We asked for two beers and the waiter told us they were out of that beer and made us taste 4 beer samples to make our choice. Everything was perfect! Waitresses have bad attitude and horrid service. Have us squat table when there are regular tables available. When other clients walked in without reservations they gave the regular table even though we came much earlier and asked to have regular seating. Bartender was friendly.

Delicious food, easy to park as there is a green p nearby. Seating is tight- so if you need a bit more space I d suggest calling ahead and asking. Service was awesome. It s a go to spot for us!

It has been a good place in the past, and many of the staff seem excellent, but recently there has been a bartender I encountered on a few occasions who truly seems to not care at all about the patrons (at least some patrons). You will ask this person a clear question about the menu, what is on tap etc., and they will give a half-hearted disinterested answer and then walk off, and forget about you. Hard to know what their game is? Perhaps theyre just thinking about who they think will give good tips? Jokes on them because there are a lot of people like me who give very good tips, but also give reviews like this instead. Based on what Ive seen recently, this is a place to avoid. There are other good places in the area.

Insomnia is a Toronto staple as far as Im concerned. Id only ever been there for brunch before (they make fantastic benedicts - but as for the home fries without ketchup otherwise they come pre-doused). Last night I went there for drinks for the first time and it was pretty great - my apple martini was delicious.

This was the worst experience Ive ever had in Toronto! We booked a table for my birthday and Id like to mention how weve a whole conversation about if you ate late for 10mins you are not gonna get any table on the table and then we got there and they had already given our table to someone else! After waiting for half an hour not only didnt we get any apology, we had to leave hungry and my birthday was ruined. Again the worst service ever!
