Have been here twice now for the goat roti, and it has been delicious. Fat Belly Bri approved.

I ve been an Island Foods customer for over 30 years now, and every single time I m on my way there, I think, There s no way it can still be as good as last time. I prepare myself for what I assume will eventually be a letdown. And yet, in all these years, that letdown has never come. Not once. They nail it every single time. Without fail, without exception. On my last visit, I pulled the owners aside and said, I don t know how you do it. Well actually, I do know. You stick to the damned recipes! That s the secret to their unmatched consistency. The boneless chicken roti is a masterpiece last meal worthy. I d crawl through the desert on my hands and knees for it. It s easily one of the top three most amazing things I ve ever eaten, and it never fails to impress. This is, hands down, the best roti money can buy. 10/10 every time.

Best doubles in the city

Stopped in for lunch. Delicious with large portions and reasonable prices.

We ordered 2 rotis. One boneless chicken and One boneless goat. The chicken was excellent with extra gravy and my wife said her goat was the best. 2 Rotis for about $22.00 Been a fan for over 15 yrs. Never had a bad roti.

Very happy these guys reopened. Best Roti downtown by far - chicken roti with spinach extra hot extra gravy. Staff are very nice and location is nice to sit in.

Boneless chicken rotis are amazing, make sure to add chana (chickpeas). Getting a side of rice and peas with oxtail gravy is always a good call. 10/10 would always recommend.

Love this place and their food. A bit of island music would bump the atmosphere up from Foreigners Eye Of The Tiger to ... actually im not sure how that could be better. Next time im there im buying one of their 3/4 length sleeve two tone shirts ... even if theyre not for sale. Dietary restrictions: Love that as someone who cant have dairy that the foundation of their food is vegan. Pro tip; add spinach to everything !

I went there when they opened & ordered doubles. The owner is nice, he tries to be cordial to customers. I stood by the counter waiting on my order. It was very tasty. Next time I went there I ordered the same: (2 doubles so 4 pieces) & since there was lots of people, I waited by the other side where they prepare the orders. It s open counter so you can see everything. I was shocked to see the older lady preparing my doubles with bare hands, she didn t even wash her hands prior. Mind you the filling is liquidy so the more reason to wear gloves. In prepping the doubles, she has to press the filling in between the doubles,so seeing her doing this with bare hands made my skin crawl. I patiently waited for her to finish my order & when she came to hand it over to me, I leaned over the counter& whispered why she didn t wear gloves, I was very polite & didn t want the rest of the customers to hear. She rudely said & I quote: we don t wear gloves here or wash hands and walked away from me! I took the order but I didn t eat it. I don t like to waste food but since I already saw what I saw, I couldn t bring myself to eat it. I thought to myself the first time I ate it because I didn t see the preparation. Since then I have never gone back there. Mind you, they are next to the dollar store so they could buy kitchen gloves for a few Pennie s but hey.. I go to normal Timmy s, a&w or macd s & I request them to wear gloves prior to making my order & they do so willingly. You can t be mad if some of us don t want to promote local businesses. Ty

Been a customer here since the Dufferin and king days . I love this place and the people here and so happy they re opened . Cant wait to come back when i visit my bestie . Weee coming here for lunch.

Few weeks ago we had an office lunch party so we ordered from island foods queen street. I thought it was the same quality/quantity I had growing up in Parkdale. Well I was totally disappointed the rotis were smaller and the food didn t taste same.. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED

The person who took our order seemed like he couldnt care less. And people got their food before us, didnt feel like good customer service. Food was good. Average

The best place and roti ever hands down! My family have been going there since the late 70s, the owners and staff are the best! The taste is amazing and unique Always fresh and great! No other compares to this gem!

Almost wrote off this place. Walked in and didn t have the best first impression, owner seemed mad. Not a biggie. Ordered the roti bone in chicken curry. Chicken a bit dry but sauce was good. The taste wasn t all that compared to another spot I d go to. Maybe it was just bias. But as i ate and thought more about the portion, quality food (well made, not messy) and price. Price was more than decent. Portion for the price was more than expected. Wanted to try their other stuff, maybe it s better. Went to make a second order, oxtail this time. The owner had such a big smile as i went up for a second time. It was worth it, glad I didn t just write this place off. Plus the place is clean and the ambient is vibrant. Definitely will come back and try their other stuff. Also their happy pop was great, super refreshing No regret giving it a second chance

We were so excited to see Island Foods reopening after almost 4 years. We were devoted customers in their previos location for probably 15 years. Goat roti is just as good as it ever was. (Can they please verify that the goat dinner is gluten free -- seems like it may not be...) The only thing is that it was sooo very slow - (45 min sitting there waiting) to get our order. Its early days, so I hope they resolve this soon. Dietary restrictions: Chose the goat dinner with rice because previously understood it to be gluten free. Unfortunately had a reaction so it would be good to know about this

It takes WAY too long just to get your food ready, and the quality is not even that good either! Last week I ordered the boneless chicken dinner, but I requested a refund since it taking so long to make. The owner/cashier is very rude, and super unorganized. I find he gets really chatty with his regulars and disregards the lineup in front of him when it gets busy. Had to walk out a few times, don t think I ll be going back there again.

Excellent vegan /vegetarian options. Their doubles are unreal, and not over priced! Great service and happy to have the business in our neighbourhood. Their scotch bonnet hot sauce is now going to be a staple in our home .

Their in-house scotch bonnet hot sauce is an ideal deep, warm burn rather than painfully hot. I ll be keeping a bottle on hand at all times.

I took the chicken thighs roti to go.the atmosphere while I waited was very friendly and the roti was fantastic a s was the pineapple guava juice .

Love Island Foods! When they returned to the neighbourhood my friends and I were thrilled. Even in these belt tightening times we get out to Island Foods almost every week for our regular order. Food so delicious and warm, youll forget all the dreary winter weather and construction grime. Cant go wrong! Vegetarian options: Lots of veggie options!

Im 52 years old my first potatoe roti was st Dufferin Mall at 8 years old! I was sad when only 1 location was left and the booth at the CNE was also gone. Today I saw the sign in Gladstone and was so happy. Guess where Im going for lunch! Amazing food and service! Hope to see a familiar face, I remember the twins!!!

So happy this place is back. I used to go to the King St. one a lot. So far I have only had some beef patties but I will be going back for other items. While the lines are long, thats a good sign that this place is going to do well. Going at lunch time, expect a wait. But the wait is worth it. What a good location with all the condos around. Again, happy they are back in the area.

We went on a Wednesday evening and there was a very long line and had quite a bit of a wait. For good reason. Their rotis are worth the wait. We ordered beef, goat and chicken. So delicious!

Glad to see they are back. Smaller venue, but nice and fresh in a new clean building and a very busy area. Rotis are outstanding, nothing in this neighborhood beats them. Hopefully over time they will hire more staff as the lineup is quite long and one has to wait.People spill over to the sitting area which doesn t make attractive to dine in.

Food is ok but they ran out of chicken and shrimp when I was there today. Expect service to be EXTREMELY slow - I waited about 25 minutes for my food to come out. The workers look miserable and work at snail speed.

I got the beef roti. It was not very flavourful even after lots of hot sauce. The beef itself was overcooked and chalky. The gravy was very bland. In addition it took quite a while to prepare. Quite a disappointment given the history.

I love the atmosphere it is so beautiful, the family working is so kind and lovely. This restaurant has been open for so long I have never seen such an amazing community and js for the store, the food is soooo good I m 100% going back and 100% recommend.

Do you love choking on chicken bones? How about taking a big bite and have a bone shard lodge in between your teeth? Then this is the place for you! You will also be waiting at least 15 minutes to be served something they have ready in the back.

Soo slow, takes for ever to get food and looks to be run very ineffeciently. Food was not great. Very wet rice with little to no gravey. It took over 30min for chicken that was already made. The majority of food is coming from steam trays and still takes forever. Over 5 people in kitchen. I do not recommend.

Glad theyre back, but expect to wait at least 30 mins to get anything, not counting time in line. Roti is smaller than I remember, but pretty good, doubles are great. Asked for spicy everything, and I saw they put zero hot sauce on either the doubles or roti, but was too over it to argue about it. This is a beloved place, but service has always been an issue, at least theyre nice about it.

Not yet there, just found out today sunday civic holiday/ after years of trying to locate. after your king&duf closed, can hardly wait to come in, all the way from niagara falls on! note no ratings yet, *taken all basic ratings for now as iIhave not yet got there! This place used to be great. Now they seem to never have bone chicken roti and Friday and Saturday they close at 7pm not 8pm as posted on their site. It takes so long to get my order, the whole food thing is so disorganized. The food delivery to the restaurant in the morning is not dropped off for the staff to cook. Spinach is not always available. Come on people I know you can do better.

The best roti and doubles ever

Mediocre doubles. Nothing compared to the options in the suburbs (e.g. Mona s or Drupatis). Barra was ok, but the channa was still kind of hard and lacked flavour. The goat roti was passable. The dhalpouri is alright, but I was surprised they don t have any paratha/bussupshot options.

Goat roti was , the curry will make you very happy inside. so glad island foods is back. I do wish the roti was a bit bigger, but at least the prices are affordable.

I have been a customer since they opened in Dufferin Mall back in the early 70s. I loved it then and still do now. The staff is always friendly and courteous. Love the new location, I have missed the place on King St. Thanks for reopening in Toronto. Food

SOOOOOO happy that Island Foods is back in the neighborhood! I was heartbroken when they closed shop at King & Dufferin. The atmosphere and vibe of this new location isnt as good as the old place, but the food is just as delicious. Theyre definitely on Island Time tho lol! Came in at 7pm on Saturday, only 3 other customers here and took foreverrrrr.

My grandfather used to take me to the location their parents managed, now the kids are running it with great passion. Love, love, love this place and the roti is on the top three foods in the world for me!! Just the potato roti it self is amazing and much much more. They make everything from scratch, from the Roti to the hot sauce. Thank me after your first bite!!

So happy to see Island Foods return to this part of Toronto! We didnt mind driving up to the Don Mills location occasionally. However well definitely be frequenting this location more often as its just a short walk from home! Food is just as delicious as expected!

Finally my favourite roti place is back. Been a fan for about 20 years over on King Street. They closed down due to a condo building. This location is great and the food of course same recipes amazing. Beef roti extra gravy doubles/ patties I m in heaven!!

Roti are fantastic! I used to stop by the original location in the 90s, had to visit the new location when I was in Toronto last weekend and the Roti was just as I remembered. GREAT!

My friend ordered me the oxtail plate and I was completely disappointed with the meal. The food was cold the taste was awful. The beans in the rice were gross. I m sorry but this place was not up to the standards. I will not be returning or trying another location (if there is one).

10 dollars approx for doubles the size of a half patty, less than a table spoon of chickpeas n sauce. I got 3 and honestly have never been more disappointed in my life. Gave you guys a chance, wish I never did. This is dough and chickpeas. 1.3/10

A very busy place with good reason

Came today and had the best melt-in-your-mouth goat roti. It s always really fresh here and you see them do the bread to order. People complain about wait times but it took 5 minutes (and it seemed busy). I ve waited through lineups here but never what other reviews cite. I generally never line up for food but their roti bread is something I dream of and crave when I m sick/hungover/sad. So soft and comforting but somehow doesn t get soggy even when we get takeout and drive home. The curry fillings are also always tender and they don t hide old food with over-salting. I ve been going to Island Foods for decades and never once been disappointed. They are consistently excellent. Another complaint I ve seen is about prices - but they re so reasonable! People de-value ethnic, family-run places. Meanwhile will pay more than double what two dinners are here for some basic appetizer at a bougie place with instagram-worthy interior. I will take Island Foods over and over any day.

Been eating Island Foods for over two decades. So happy to have them back in the neighborhood and I try to support them often BUT.....the service model is outdated and I am certain they could increase their sales by 2X or 3X if they would allow customers to order in advance using Ritual or a similar service to pick up their food. EVERY TIME I order food its 25 to 35 minutes for 2 rotis and 2 patties. I often dont have that much time to wait. The service is way too slow. They definitely need more staff but they also need to allow reduce the wait time for food. Its simple, use the tools available to provide your customers with convenience, we will pay for it. Now lets get to the food, its not as flavourful as the original spot or the Markham location. The food inside the rotis were cold and insufficiently spiced leaving it all quite bland. Dont get me wrong, its still pretty decent Caribbean food in the area but it aint what it used to be. I hope that they stick around but sooner or later people wont have 30 minutes to wait for their meals and will just go elsewhere; as we have done a number of times because we cannot order in advance for pick up!!!

Amazing food !

Rotis are pretty good, would recommend over the jerk chicken. Chicken almost tastes like it was cooked in a sous vide. Fresh ingredients, and clean facilities.

I was 1st introduced to this delicious food at the King and Dufferin location that sadly closed ....then __ (3-5years later) boom one of the sisters and her husband run/own this place #awesome

I grew up eating the doubles from Island Foods and I was so sad when they left the city. I m so happy they re back now - all of the food is incredible.

I tried the potato roti, which is basically a big square wrap. It was very fresh and hot, all quite flavourful and super filling. Their rotis are saucy though, so I recommend sitting down to eat it and do not attempt walking and eating like I did. Will definitely try something else next time Im in the area.
