Atmosphere is pretty good, the service staff is friendly and the food was pretty good. They offer a fixed priced menu - comes with a salad, 10oz steak and fries for each person at $60/person. Fries are unlimited and they re fried in beef fat, it s delicious! We wanted to try it all so we got 2 cocktails, a bottle of wine and 2 deserts (red velvet and pistachios). Bill was a little high however pretty good experience to try out.

Food salty and overpriced. Spent over $200 for two people, with that price range you can be dining at a more elevated steakhouse with a 5 star experience.What really killed it for me was the ambience of the place. Place desperately needs to be renovated, washroom was super dated and gross. Chairs were uncomfortable. Servers were lovely though.

For 3 drinks and a fixed meal +tip my boyfriend paid OVER $200. The quality and quantity of the food did not justify the price at all. I m so disappointed to have chosen to splurge on this restaurant. We would not recommend. I chose this restaurant for my birthday dinner, but it was a big disappointment. Drinks were lovely but a bit overpriced. We were served a small single serving of bread to SHARE, it tasted hard and stale and cut into small pieces - on the menu it specified that additional bread and sauce would be an extra 6$ - which is crazy because it was a single serving. The salad was also a small garden salad underdressed and nothing special, and while the fries were great, they resembled the classic thin cut from McDonald s. For the steak, we requested medium-rare, it arrived cold with a very weak sear. It was also very thin compared to the pictures on the website. We assumed it would be a result of a cold pan because it was also so chewy. To top it off it had been specified on my reservation that the occasion was my birthday, yet we were not even OFFERED a dessert before having been offered the bill. The ambiance and energy from the staff was cold and sterile. I wish we would ve saved our money :/

Overall, it was a good experience. As others have posted, they serve a pre-fixed menu each night which is actually part of the reason we went. The steak was good, fries were okay, and the salad was nice. The food was somewhat underwhelming for the price, but we had a nice time!

Always saw this place pop up on my IG and TikTok so had to give it a try and came with my gf. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the set menu made ordering very simple! The salad was night a light, good for starting off the meal. The steak was cooked to medium rare as instructed and the sauce provided was delicious. The unlimited fries were amazing, cooked in the beef fat it reminded me of the OG McDonald fries, they were deadly as I couldn t stop eating them. Definitely would come back here for special occasions and craving a steak.

Every thing from food to atmosphere was top notch and above all Maria made us feel extremely taken care of and we couldn t ask for a better spent Saturday evening overally ! Thank you guys for sure will comeback soon

I was having a good time but it was hard to get service often and then on the way out the waitress came to complain about the tip she received and said what you can t afford a tip on the way out but couldn t be attentive to our table. The blonde girl with glasses and a neck tattoo. It has been the most disrespectful thing I have ever heard if I knew how they re staff was I would not have gone in the first place. I am shocked to see the nerve people have after we already spent over 300$.

Amazing spot for a date night - the steak was cooked perfectly and placed on a warmer. Cocktails were also amazing! They always have a five tier cake rotation, which is exactly what I needed. Thanks to Jasmine for her stellar service!

Save your money. You re better off at the Keg. Food was mediocre at best. Also, we finished our meal around 830pm and then around 9pm, with no one else in the restaurant, they asked us to honor the 90 min table policy and clear out. Literally no one else around. Absolutely lame.

The steak does not live up to its price, The Keg is tastier in every aspect (the meat, the salad, the fries all better at The Keg). And to top it off the staff were extremely disrespectful. Have some self respect and just go to one of the endless option for steak (Jules Bistro is literally down the street and has a superior steak platter offering. And they won t chase you out of an empty restaurant while you re enjoying post dinner drinks with you friends, but rather engage in the conversation). The food industry in Toronto is tough and restaurants need to realize it s *their* privilege to have people spend their hard earned money there unless you re the owner of J s (they believe the complete opposite, as you can read for yourself). Look forward to never coming here again.

Was looking forward to coming here. Food was great- although the salad portion and bread weren t very substantial, they were tasty- as was the main event. The steak was cooked perfectly to order, fries were fresh and crispy and the sauce (like a tarragon sauce) was on point. My issue was simply the very disengenuous, off-putting service. It was robotic and lacked any sort of personality. It was as cut and dry as the menu. What ticked me off most (and which is why I prefer to pour my own wine) we ordered some $90+btls of wine. The server filled each of our glasses- like we were at the keg or a banquest hall wedding and emptied the bottle. Ordered a 2nd bottle and I said, it s ok I ll pour. She insisted profusely that she had to. (No- she doesn t) proceeds to pour and I politely tell her where to stop and simply explain why for her reference. She again fills all 4 in one go- and says well I like full glasses . (??!!) If you re going to sell wines that are that pricey- have the decency to train your staff to have a little knowledge on how to pour a glass. They don t have to be sommeliers- but it s wine ffs, not pop. Appreciate the cut and pastels reply- hope it helps. As mentioned- off putting . A return visit isnt likely.

The food was really good, steak full of flavor with good sauce. Another remarkable point is the service, our server Sarah was so attentive and kind, we would recommend to anyone who wants a good date to go and enjoy the vibe.

This restaurant fantastic! My girlfriend wanted to go because she saw some tiktoks about this place and the videos were great, so our expectations were high! And yet, it exceeded our expectations. Every aspect of each course was delicious, the house butter sauce with the steak is just the most fantastic combination. The fries are also perfect every time, they almost remind me of Bâton Rouge fries. For drinks we had the red lipstick cocktail and the Bordeaux, both were absolutely fantastic and the Bordeaux paired super nicely with the strip loin. There are 4 dessert options made in house that they bring to you to pick from. Everything from the atmosphere, the food, and the drinks from this place are exceptional. Dietary restrictions: They ask if there are any dietary restrictions before they bring you any food.

Better steaks than The Keg and other steakhouses in town. The bottomless fries are awesome. Other than just a bit pricey, everythings good.

My partner and I went to celebrate our anniversary here and it was both of our first time visiting. Its a cute atmosphere, great for a date night or a dinner with friends. Our server Lucia was absolutely amazing, she was great at being personable and checking in on us but not being too overwhelming. Everything came out with great timing and overall everything from the apps to the dessert was phenomenal. The unlimited fries are the cherry on top. Overall great experience and would definitely recommend!!

In the world of so many choices, it is a perfect solution to have just one option. The was done right and it just melted in your mouth. The fries are also a great accompaniment and are cooked fresh and served to your needs. The service was excellent and they are so attentive to your needs.

Staff was great over phone and when we came in. Lucia served us and was very personable and attentive. Unfortunately, steak came out and was somewhat warm, borderline cold. Cooked well but the temperature was just too cold and a little candle was lit under it that I was told would make the steak sizzle but that was impossible. The fries were amazing, taste very similar to the addictive McDonalds. However, on several occasions we got it, when being served it would either spill over the plate and twice it fell on my clothes and my partners as we were being served. For the price you pay, youre better off going to a real steak house where you can get hot/fresh steak (they dont do chicago style here) and gently be served your sides that dont spill on your expensive clothes. Their default tip options are also insane, I believe the mid tip option was 22%...Overall, would not come back but worth trying if youre okay overpaying for steak.

This is a concept that was based of a restaurant in France called L Entrecote. J s felt like a watered down version of this famous place. The star of the show is supposed to be the steak with the sauce. For me, the sauce at J s fell very short. I had hoped for a bit more complexity but I understand that things cost money however a slight variation of a béarnaise felt a bit like a cop out. Relative to the cost it s ok value. I wish the bread was fresh. It was cold a chewy and try. Certainly not the best steak I ve had but not the worst but close. At $60 a head you won t find many meals that can compete because food is so expensive but the kitchen s execution is saddening as it s steak. Service was super good and friendly. Ambiance was pleasant. Go for a drink if you have money to burn as a Shirley Temple was $8 eating out ain t cheap but if you re going to do it go somewhere where they can execute very well.

Only 1 option on the menu which often announces quality food and indeed, very good meat, well cooked, delicious homemade sauce... the matchstick fries, generally not my favorite, were also very good. Conclusion the meal is worth the price!

The food was really good for the most part. The fries were outstanding! The steak was good. The burner which they use to keep the steak warm is virtually useless. Our steaks were cold within a matter of minutes. The salad was great but the vinaigrette was VERY strong on the lemon. Super acidic. I wanted to keep eating because the other ingredients were great but couldnt. My friends also had the same concern. Either way, the food was still pretty good. Would have given them a 5* if the salad dressing wasnt so acidic.

You might think I m writing this review just to (hopefully) win the Review Us on Google for a Chance to Win a Dinner for Two Contest. And you d be right. However, that doesn t change how good the food and service were when I went. Real good.

I visited Js Steak Frites on Wednesday June 19th. It was a hot summer day in Toronto (34 degrees). The A/C at Js was broken and inside the restaurant - it felt like 40 degrees +. We were sweating buckets - our entire group. The restaurant didn t inform us well in advance, and when we got there, that s when we found out. Dining in the sweltering heat trying to enjoy steak is a miserable experience and the restaurant did absolutely nothing to make the situation better. I know it s not their fault the A/C broke down - but at minimum, keep water flowing? Comp a portion of the meal? Let patrons know well in advance so they don t come? The steak comes out and sits on a candle to stay warm - which we blew out because of the heat. The temp in the restaurant kept the steak warm on its own. Half way through the meal we asked for everything to be packed and left - it was an awful experience - didn t even they to take advantage of the unlimited fries! While the AC breaking down wasn t their fault - their lack of sympathy and care for patrons was awful. Likely never returning.

Service was so nice! We came for my birthday and everyone was kind and hospitable as soon as we walked in the door. Atmosphere was perfect, service was fast and restaurant was extremely clean. Will go again for sure!

TLDR: not worth the price tag, dont even try once My boyfriend wanted to take me out for a nice dinner while were in Toronto so he made a reservation for a Friday night. It was a red flag when we entered at dinner time and the restaurant was not filled. Otherwise, food comments below: *The bread couldve been warmed up *The salad feels like Costco prepacked salad *Fries reminds me of McDonalds *Steak is not bad, they cooked with a fool proof method so its more evenly cooked and not overcooked, which is why there was no char. Another table also complained about the chewiness of the steak. Only saving point was the service (reason for 2 stars instead of 1), the maitre d gave us complimentary macarons as we did not enjoy the meal. The server didnt do anything. But looking at other reviews on Google the macarons were given out randomly, so maybe it wasnt to make up for lack of food experience.

The steak was cooked perfectly! However I would say it was cooked closer to medium than the medium rare we ordered. But that s ok because it was still very tender. The fries were very similar to McDonald s fries but much crispier. Salad was good also. Overall, for $60 a person before taxes it s a pretty good value for the price!

Unfortunately we dined here because multiple influencers said it was soooo good. Um no. Save your money and time this place is disgusting the meat is cold,chewy and flavorless. The signature sauce has this strange aftertaste I got nauseous after awhile. The only saving grace was our waiter. She was VERY sweet. Not to mention at $60 a person you aren t getting much food or at the least quality food.

Amazing. Ive been trying to eat here over the last 4 trips to Toronto, and lucked out on a cancellation tonight. The hostess was amazing and helpful, even stopped by for a chat during my meal. My server hit everything spot on - rounded out the experience as a total class act. Go there. Eat steak. Save room for dessert.

Ive been to Js a few times and its always epic. The most recent time was about 2 months ago when my uncle was in town visiting from Mississippi. He was staying at the Drake and hes a big steak guy, so I exactly where to go lol The concept is simple: fixed price of 60 CAD gets you bread, salad, steak and all you can eat fries. Cocktails and wine list is small but very solid. The food is epic. Classic steak frites cooked to your specifications with your choice of classic sauces. Theyve also clearly got it down to a science too. It comes out fast without sacrificing quality. Im a former server/bartender myself and I really appreciate good service. Js was some of the best Ive had in a while. Our server was charming and attentive, quality checking at all the right moments, keeping our wine glasses full and enduring my uncles crazy accent lol. It was an amazing meal. Will 100% be back :)

We had an amazing birthday experience last night at this place. Have been meaning to go for some time and have only heard great things. The vibe is casual but dressy felt like we stepped back into a restaurant in Europe. We each got the $60 all you can eat fries with the steak (medium rare) served with butter sauce and the walnut salad to start. Everything came swiftly but not too fast giving ample time for conversation. As a treat we each got a drink (mocktail: cranberry fizz) and (cocktail: purple). The steak was juicy, not dry and done at just the right temperature for medium rare. They had ketchup and mayo for fries but I just used the butter sauce for everything to be honest. The fries is my favorite kind cooked in beef oil and thinly sliced. The host and waiter we had was amazing always checking up on us and making small chat which is always sweet. To end things off for the birthday we got earl grey cake. One of the best cakes Ive ever had, I love the fact its not only sweetness that empowers the flavor but the earl grey and the tartness which stuck. Highly recommend! They also gave us a little gift of two macarons to go

J s steak frites was a fantastic experience. Mixed green with candied walnuts was a great starter. Steak was delicious and cooked perfectly. The house made sauce was amazing. Unlimited fries it doesn t get better than that. Our server was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the night. We definitely recommend this place if you want a nice steak dinner. Can t wait to come here again!

The wait and bar staff were friendly and conversational. The only drawback was the food was average. The service is prompt because of the 90 min time limit. It s a simple menu and strategy but for $60 I m expecting a much better quality steak than was served. I understand there are unlimited fries, which I took advantage of, but the salad and steak and fries were not worth $60. Perhaps if dessert was included then I can see some value. I hate writing average reviews but J s steak disappointed.

It s a nice enough place with nice enough steak. Would I return? Probably, but would not go out of my way for it. Pricing is definitely on the steeper side. Good cocktail program though. Salad was slightly wilted and weakly dressed. Wish the salad was also unlimited like the frites.

J s Steak Frites is my favourite restaurant in Toronto. I ve went to so many different places and none of them even compare. The food is so good, not to mention their impeccable service. The steak is always cooked perfectly and the fries are to die for; I can t seem to stop asking for more. I will ALWAYS love this place and no one can tell me otherwise!

Lucia is literally the greatest!!!

We were excited to be in a fun French style bistro, spend some time enjoying some wine and dinner. Atmosphere felt rushed by the staff there unfortunately, told right at the beginning (7:30) we had to be out of there by 9. Steak was great. Salad was very small and minimal ingredients. Felt skimpy.

Lucia was absolutely lovely and a darling. Our table was never neglected. We didn t even pour our own water at the table at all. The food and drinks came out quickly. This was one of the best meals I ve had in my life. The steak was cooked to perfection. The starting salad was fresh and had great flavour. Nate made the most scrumptious drinks. We tried the French 74 and Red Lipstick. The flavours were wonderful but not overwhelming and tasted so fresh. Even the garnish of blueberries and raspberries were supremely fresh and tasted great. We also enjoyed the Red Velvet Cake. It was light and delicious and everything I was hoping a great red velvet cake would taste like. I cannot wait to go back.

Perfect experience, great food, beautiful vibes. Steak is made to order and perfectly cooked. Fries are very basic and delicious. Service is spectacular by servers. Chocolate mousse is very rich and delicious. Place is a must for date nights and celebrations. One star down for somehow obligatory tipping. I know tipping is a good thing for servers but it should never be obligatory. Least suggested tip is 18% which is ALOT.

Not a place for children The hostess wanted to charge the same price as an adult for a 6 year old and would not accommodate a bigger group. Told us we can be seated for half n hour because their seating starts from 4:30, 6:15 and so on. Turned away a potential customer and not worth the drive.

Wonderful fixe prix establishment with beautifully cooked steak, nice frites, wonderful bread and a worth writing home about butter tarragon sauce. Service was lovely and attentive, but it is quite clear that you are being rushed ahead of the next seating. Desserts were lovely and home made, if slightly high priced for the portion size. The wine list is good, with a few standout bottles, but mostly French and Napa vintages. Coffee is advertised as Nespresso, and it is very much just that, the only true fault of the menu. Lovely spot, Id be happy to return, and look forward to my next 90 minute visit.

My friend and I had a great time here! The steak is perfect and the fries are to die for. Who can be upset by unlimited fries?!! Cocktails were strong and delicious. This place is a must-visit! The service here was excellent! I was blown away by the food; they serve exceptional steak cooked to perfection. My medium-well steak was exactly how I like it, accompanied by a delicious side sauce and unlimited fries. As a delightful surprise, they also offer cute macarons. Plus, we indulged in a decadent chocolate mousse, which was incredibly rich and satisfying.

We went to J s Steak Frites for my boyfriend s 24th birthday and we were more than satisfied to say the least. From the minute we stepped foot into the restaurant, we were greeted by welcoming faces and helping hands. The lady who welcomed us quietly confirmed with me who the birthday was for, which was a second precaution as they had already called me hours before confirming we were coming for a birthday, what we wanted as the birthday dessert, and what the name was of the birthday boy. After being seated, we were offered drinks, the menu was dictated to us, and soon after our food started arriving. Everyone was so welcoming, open handed, and smiley. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the great food. After finishing our meal, the birthday cake was brought out with the ladies singing happy birthday! Couldn t be happier that we chose this restaurant to celebrate the special day! Even though you shouldn t have any doubts, but if you do, take the chance, I promise you ll thoroughly enjoy your time here!

My 2nd visit here. It wasn t as phenomenal as my first time. They have cut costs on the sald and bread. The first time I went, it was warmed up baguette of a decent size. This time around it was cold and tiny. The salad was just a few leaves with one or two pecans versus a full plate last time. The steak was still good and cooked to my liking. Sauce and fries all good and dessert was delicious. They have raised cists- which I get- but I wish they had not compromised on their food.

I m basing it off all their reviews and the disgustingly rude hostess over the phone. My boyfriend had made a reservation for a nice dinner date night, i got sick with food poisoning and had been at the hospital that day regardless. She said she was going to charge him for cancelling with zero consideration to the other party. It s not in our control that your girlfriend is sick . Girl let me see your loved one being sick then come here with your BULL. OH RIGHT you can t come here with your bull so you asked your manager instead as you should ve in the first place. PUT URSELF BACK IN UR PLACE.

An incredibly simple ordering process when there is only one dish on the menu and you know it s going to be good. Service is impeccable, steak is cooked and seasoned perfectly. The house sauce complemented the steak wonderfully. Fries and salad didn t stand out but the fries are unlimited if you re feeling hungry.

Everything about this tiny steakhouse is amazing. From J himself greeting you at the door. To the two people that bring the desserts out at the end for you to chose from. Love the idea of no menu and you get what they ve got. Because the food was perfect. The butter tarragon sauce for the steak was amazing. Didn t go to waste either. I used it in the fries as well. Speaking of the fries. I m surprised McDonald s hasn t come after them. They are basically the same. But better because they don t come in cardboard and get soft. Eat here!

I had a fantastic dining experience celebrating my husband birthday. Every bite was mega delicious, from the perfectly cooked steak to the crispy fries. The standout of the evening was Lucia, our attendant, who was super nice, professional, and friendly, making the meal even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this place for great food and excellent service!

The moment I found out about this place I booked a reservation IMMEDIATELY. Lol it s literally 2 of my favourite things ever. You can never go wrong with a perfectly cooked steak and fries. We got our order cooked medium and ordered their salad that comes with your prix fixe. Had to accompany it with a nice glass of red wine of course! Unfortunately had way too many unlimited fries and didn t have room for dessert. Lastly I just want to say that the service here is great, all of the staff members are sooo friendly. Excellent experience, if you re reading this, just listen to the hype and gooooo!! I m coming back forsure.

My girlfriend had taken me here for my birthday and we had an amazing time! Our server, Jonathan, was amazing! He was informative, funny, helpful and suggested things that matched what we liked! The food was great, steak was juicy and delicious, fries were great and you have an unlimited portion for them (just dont over fill on them), and the desserts were great! My girlfriend got the red lipstick and I got the Russian roulette for our drinks and they were tasty. For dessert, we got the chocolate cake. It was rich and delicious but we had to take it to go since we ate too much fries and got full. You do have to make a reservation prior to coming in! All in all, it is a small intimate place but we had an amazing time here! Thank you Jonathan for giving me a great experience for my birthday! Well come back soon!
