The best ramen place ever! I can confidently say that Kyouka ramen is the best ramen place I’ve ever visited! It was incredible. The broth was perfectly seasoned, and the toppings, especially the chashu softly melted in my mouth. The noodles were the ideal texture, and every bite was a delight. Also the service was outstanding. The staff were knowledgeable and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. I can’t wait to visit this place again!

Such a delightful experience. Food and service were both excellent! We tried the house and shio ramen and it was amazing! All of the ramen toppings were really good but the pork chashu topping was the best I’ve ever had. Karaage was very well seasoned and tendon donburi was awesome too. Will visit again to try the miso ramen!

I visited Kyouka Ramen after a long break and was pleased to see that the restaurant has maintained its commitment to quality food. From the outside, the restaurant is easy to spot with its striking red, black, and white signage. The red walls, plants, and hanging vases create a cohesive look that draws attention, even if you're just passing by. Inside, the predominantly black decor seems designed to allow the food, served in white bowls, to take centre stage. However, the seating and tables are on the smaller side, giving the restaurant a tight, somewhat cramped feel. The menus were also a bit challenging to read, as they were printed in fine text with no pictures or numbers to differentiate the items. Here's what I ordered: Dipping Tsukemen: The dipping ramen was a highlight of the meal. Served in two bowls, the large bowl held a generous portion of noodles, along with three thick slices of chicken chashu and a halved soft-boiled egg. Although chilli paste was technically a $1 add-on, it was offered for free during our visit. The small bowl contained a rich, thick soup with a layer of fat on top, perfect for dipping the noodles and toppings. I appreciated that the soup wasn’t overly salty, yet still packed a robust flavour. The blend of pork broth into the chicken broth seemed to be crafted to appeal to a wider audience. However, the chicken chashu, while plentiful, was a bit dry. Since it wasn’t already immersed in broth, the slices were cold and dry, needing a soak in the soup before I could enjoy them. Kyouka Donburi: As a lunch option, I could add a donburi of any size to a ramen for $2 less. Although the menu indicated this deal was only for weekdays, the server kindly allowed me to order it on a Saturday. The donburi featured a healthy serving of pork chashu pieces and veggies on top of perfectly steamed white rice. The portion was generous, big enough to be a small meal on its own. Boneless Karaage: I had mixed feelings about the boneless deep-fried chicken. While the chicken was definitely juicy, it lacked the expected crispiness. The accompanying sauce didn’t particularly stand out either. Service was adequate, though our server didn’t check in on us much. The restaurant was clean and well-maintained. Overall, I had a good experience at Kyouka Ramen. The restaurant continues to deliver high-quality ramen, despite a few minor disappointments, such as the dry chicken chashu and lackluster karaage. Considering the overall value, I might revisit if I’m in the area to try their other dishes.

how pretty is that bowl of ramen. “kyouka paitan apple miso ramen” is what i had truly shocked / blown away by how great this place was. super calm, very comfy in there, with AC, clean washroom. food was top tier as well. dozen bowls ranging from 16.99 to 19.99, spice extra, double toppings for 4 or 5$ service was excellent too, our waiter was kind, respectful, and filling our water. the food is a little spicy but not overwhelming. you can remove ingredients if you need.

This ramen spot is great and offers unique flavor combination, although, it doesn't really fit my personal taste profile. I really appreciate the portion size, which is very filling. The texture of the noodle is also good and the toppings are well season. The service was amazing, friendly and efficient staff members. I am looking forward to give this place another try and revised my review in the future.

Best ramen in Toronto. I think I cried when I ate it because it reminded me of Japan so much. Thick twisty noodles just like in Japan. You won't regret coming here. Ikkousha is amazing but kyouka's kind of ramen is far more ubiquitous in Japan But you can probably skip the donburis. Bring back your mazemen!!

This place is perfect. The ramen was just beyond delicious. I guess Ive never had ramen before this. Not like this. Heavenly. Prices are good. Portions are perfect, I had one bowl and think I might explode. I had the Kyouka ramen, medium spicy, my toddler son had the dipping ramen, and we shared the spicy chicken dish (I forget the name). Dipping ramen is just genius, Ill be getting that next time. My son loved the fish cakes and the meat pieces the best, silly boy. Though he put away his fair share of noodles as well - and slurped like a pro. He was a bit rambunctious and messy, but these wonderful employees were so graceful about it. I gave them a 20% tip because they deserved it. Lastly, the green tea was perfect, not too bitter, light and tasty. I cant wait to go back when were not driving so I can try the plum wine. Thank you, Arigato, Kyouka! Delightful! (Love the little info cards at every setting, very interesting to read. Seriously about to shed a tear over how much I love this place. )

STAY AWAY This is hands down the worst ramen I ve ever had. (If this even qualifies as ramen) Only come here if you re willing to pay $20 for a bowl of flavourless hot water with slimy instant noodles. The table water served was room temperature. Side note - Owner was being rude to the server which made me uncomfortable. The owner should feel ashamed for serving this mockery of ramen while simultaneously treating his staff poorly.

Food is good but service was kind of rude. We came during dinner time and the server quickly made us pay and rushed us out even though i haven t finished my drink that I paid for yet.

October 23, 2024

I ve been to Kyouka three times and initially enjoyed my experience. However, my recent visit left me disappointed. I arrived 30 minutes before closing, so perhaps they were rushing, but the ramen s presentation and taste were subpar. It was overly salty, and I even ended up swallowing a mouthful of eggshell. When I expressed my dissatisfaction to the server, she consulted the kitchen, and they offered me another egg, which I felt was insufficient. As someone with half-Japanese heritage, the lack of care and attention to detail was embarrassing...The ramen bowl looked haphazardly thrown together. I hope you can improve next time!

Edit: decided to give this place another shot and had their house ramen. Broth was flavourful but not a fan of the chicken and beansprouts. Chicken were thick cuts (although Im not particularly fond of chasu either) and beansprouts made it more watery and limp. Disappointing experience considering the ratings. It isnt good ramen (shoyu) and wont be going back. The broth was boring and overall everything was pretty bland, noodles were overcooked. $11 for 3 wings not worth. Best thing we got was the tsukudani.

This was saved on my maps to try for a while so when I found myself around the area, I was really excited to finally get to go. We tried the recommended House Ramen and the staff picked Shio Paitan Ramen. The broth of the House Ramen was pretty heavy. After awhile, the flavour gets a bit salty for my preference. The Shio Paitan was the opposite, really light. The noodle texture was very chewy and bouncy. Topping were well cooked and portion sizes were also generous. Overall it was a decent bowl of ramen, just not my preference.

I usually would order extra noodles but it was able to full me up I hated the chili paste taste like chinese spicy hotpot I think this ramen spot caters too much to white people s taste and the ramen is not authentic at all If you are into ramen you are better off giving other places a try. Said it was the best ramen he d had since he was in Japan. In the interim, I ve been to Japan and he s right. Maybe it s better than any ramen I ate in Japan or maybe it s close.

I was really excited to try out this restaurant given the many good reviews, but it was unfortunately the worst ramen Ive ever had. I ordered the vegetarian miso ramen, and my friend ordered their house ramen (he rated it the worst ramen he had ever tried as well). My ramen tasted pretty much just like hot water with slimy noodles. I hated the texture of the noodles and couldnt even get through eating them. I added as much spice from the bottle on the table as I possibly could to try to add any flavour to the broth, but honestly it didnt help much. The veggies were also rather tasteless. What stood out particularly was the temperature of the broth and the proportion of the various components. If the soul of a ramen rests in its broth, then half of the soul is in the proper temperature of it. I m not a fast eater but the broth s temperature was on point throughout. The portion of the broth, ramen, and the many ingredients are also very considerately controlled. This is a bowl of ramen that truly sings, and sings in harmony.

Edited to add: I walked down the street to Hajime where the woman behind the sushi bar was smiling and saying hello before I even had the door all the way open! The tonkastu ramen was delicious. All the staff, including the sushi chef, were super lovely. Go here. At 3:54pm I went to open the door and a white guy sitting in the window table on his phone waved his hand to say go away. I was confused because A. I thought he was a customer sitting at that front table he looked so dirty and underdressed, and B. The gesture was so rude I was sincerely shocked. Then he says, equally as rudely, we re not open. we open at 4. It was 6 min before the kitchen opened. Had I been greeted by the owner I m going to safely assume they would have said Our kitchen doesn t open until 4pm, but please sit down, would you like anything to drink? It s ironic because I don t think I ve ever been greeted by a white person at an authentic ramen or Asian restaurant. Maybe it s Toronto s level of customer service by people who don t seem to want to be there. It s too bad. The food reviews are great.

Super friendly staff, and a unique house kelp broth with chewy thick noodles. The house broth is salty and surprisingly light but super savoury and flavorful. The pork topping with the dipping noodles is a bit on the dry side but otherwise soft and delicious. If you like thick squiggly noodles this is your spot. Also love the option for spicy and FIRE level on most of the bowls, haha. Bowl at the table in like 2 minutes too. Update: Returned to try out another super unique bowl of ramen... with a dill broth! Basically tasted like dill pickle chips in the form of ramen. Incredibly unique and really well executed. Love to see a ramen joint in Toronto doing some exciting things with ramen and totally pulling it off. Upped to 5 stars from 4.

Service was good but the ramen was very poorly done, the Donburi was way too salty. Feel like it was just whitewashed flavoring, no real authentic flavor. The only thing I would recommend would be the plum wine.

Incredibly fast service! But everything about this place is FAST. Youre even supposed to eat quickly. (There s a note on the menu that states noodles should be consumed entirely within 10 minutes or else they may get soggy, etc.) Which is great if youre waiting for a table in the very, very tiny spot. Not so great if youre out for a chill, catch up dinner with friends. But I wasnt so it didnt matter to me. We came in, waited maybe 3 minutes around dinnertime, sat, ate, and left. All very effective and perfunctory. Ramen is what it is, and is fairly large. I find it very hard to be overly impressed by ramen/soup in general but this hit the spot. So, it seems like its good. Its tasty enough, but at the end of the day its just noodles in broth like most other ramen joints. Be warned that because the space is so small you may be subjected to weeabros talking really, really loudly, trying to show off how much they know about Japan, and it doesnt matter where you sit, you are their captive audience. Boys in too small anime t-shirts use your indoor voices challenge. I would come back here for ramen sometime because its quick and tasty enough.

I ordered directly from the restaurant trying to support local business. 2 vegetable ramen for a cost of $35 + $5 tip I gave. Worst Ramen Ever No vegetables in the soup other than cabbage and green onion Soup arrived barely warm I guess I m used to Kinto Ramen quality Called to let the restaurant know and I was told that ramen soup and noodles I got are expensive. Not sure how that justifies the poor quality. No offer to replace or refund.

Great Ramen spot on the east end. Soup was not hot hot hot, but its was through delivery so that is to be expected. However, what was not expected was the message they sent me on the Uber Eats Receipt. Just so the owners know, when someone has a group order, 2 names pop up and its not a request for it to be packaged separately . Even if we wanted it to be separate, putting it in another bag vs. the 1 bag ultimately shouldnt take too much longer. Will continue to support, but I think these messages are unnecessary, and ruin the experience overall.

Ramen here is great. If youre looking for an authentic tasting ramen in the East End, this is a great spot. Chashu both the pork and chicken have a notable hint of smoke to it which is welcomed. What could be improved: - be consistent with how patrons are treated - take pride in what you have and rally behind your menu. Theres a noticeable difference of treatment between patrons dining. I was dining by myself, and had the appearance of a student. I was kindly directed to a seat. The difference in interactions were noticeable when I saw others come in and the immediate change in tone, assistance, casual banter, and menu recommendations. I asked what they would recommend on the menu and the server replied with, whatever you feel like. As a first timer, I feel that this is the restaurants time to shine and draw patrons to what makes this place stand out. On contrast, other patrons that walked were kindly ushered to their seat, and the server spent time to talk about their specials and what their recommendations were. And yes, there were demographical differences and it was difficult not to pin point it on race. But im not going to make false assumptions and jump to that conclusion. To be clear, the staff here are courteous and were polite to me. But in comparison to other folks during that lunch service, I didnt feel that my patronage was welcomed. First time impressions mean a lot, but im also sympathetic that perhaps there was a bad experience with folks that look like me in the past. Ill be coming back again and hope the interactions will get better over time. I want the staff here to see that patrons do notice the smaller things. And those things matter to the whole experience and where our support goes.

4.6 rating on Google and 4.8 rating on Uber Eats are very deceiving. We ordered Yuzu Paitan Ramen through Uber Eats. The restaurant is about 850m from our house and driver picked it up right away once it was ready. The ramen arrived barely warm. The broth was sour and the flavours were not fresh at all. We also requested extra broth on the side and our request was just ignored. When you pay $19 for a soup you expect it to enjoy at least a little bit. I am highly disappointed with my meal do NOT recommend this place for ramen.

My parents are very fond of this place! They are regular customers, and order takeout at least once every two weeks from here. Theyve been ordering from here for quite a while.

December 23, 2020

I cannot rate this place on the food, but solely on the worst customer service I have received. Not knowing what to order, I went in and asked the person working there if they could recommend a dish or explain the difference between two dishes. It was before the lunch hour and there was nobody in the restaurant, but the person working there told me to go outside and read the menu,.not once but a few times. I live in the beaches and will never go back there or recommend this place. A restaurant isnt just about the food, it is about the service also.

December 23, 2020

I don t think I have ever written a google review before. I just called them to order a take out. A guy answered so I asked what is the most popular item on the menu since it was my first time ordering from this place. The menu he suggested had 3 different spicy levels (I was looking at the menu online) so I said um then and he pretty much said just see the menu online, ok? And hung up on me I m sorry I didn t know that restaurants didn t allow questions lol He said something about he got so many great reviews online so I should just go check it as well (sorry it s not 100% clear because he yelled at me so much so fast and hung up ) I guess he is proud of his work and good for you! But maybe next time, remember, yelling? Bad. Hanging up on people? Bad. Also, if you own a restaurant, people can ask questions! Lol I won t be going back though and by the sounds of it he doesn t want customers who don t know what s popular on the menu either
