Lucia celebrates hand-made pasta dishes and simple Italian cooking. Inspired by neighbourly hospitality, the goal is to create a casual, unpretentious, dinning experience.
Our party of 6 arrived at 6:30 and asked to leave at 8:30 for another seating. Good server and lively atmosphere but many reminders of our 2 hour timeslot making the whole experience feeling rushed and frankly, unpleasant. The food was substandard at best and the server said they could not do separate bills for our group. Overall very disappointing especially for our dear friends who were visiting from out of town.
Rly cute gem for a trusty menu and friendly service. All food was great (arugula salad, tartare, gnocchi and lamb… esp the lamb) but I did throw a lot of salt on every dish. But that may be a personal preference for me, and a chance for the local freshness to shine
Nice spot for dinner, but nothing special. Food was OK not great. We sat outside for dinner on the patio so was not loud at all. The patio is cute and cosy and the service was really good. we ordered a number of things from the menu from the drinks to the appetizers to the mains. Definitely come here for the pasta you can taste that it’s fresh and made in house which is lovely. My only criticism of the pasta options is that most of the dishes had no protein. We ordered the coconut margaritas and they definitely did not taste much like coconut or lime. I felt like mine was a little watered down. From the appetizer menu, we ordered the mozzarella, which was really nice, but you have to order bread to go with it. We also ordered the steak tartar - I personally didn’t think this was great. It was a little chewy. I’ve had lot of steak tartare at different spots in the city and this one just wasn’t great. All of the pasta dishes we ordered were really good highly recommend them. We also tried the Brazilian steak (bistecca)- it had good flavor, but it was really chewy which is disappointing for a $36 plate. We left a few pieces of steak on the plate because they were just inedible. The Espresso here is amazing and I would recommend getting the desserts. They are delicious. Overall, this is a great spot if you’re looking for a pasta dinner …also, I highly recommend the desserts and some coffee - really good! Everything else was really lacklustre and I kind of regret ordering so much. Service was great and accommodating. We had a good time on the patio.
We came here for our anniversary and had a great time! The food was delicious, the vibe of the place was great, and the service was fantastic. I felt like the music was a little too loud but other than that, it was a great evening.
Delightful Dining Experience at Lucia’s Italian Wow, wow, oh wow! My experience at Lucia's Italian was truly delightful. The food here is exceptional, with flavors that tantalize the taste buds and presentations that are a feast for the eyes. I had the pleasure of trying five different dishes along with some sides, and each one was a culinary masterpiece. However, I must admit that the steak I ordered fell short of expectations. It wasn't cooked as a steak should be, and the texture was disappointingly chewy. Thankfully, the other dishes more than made up for it, particularly the shrimp spaghetti, which was absolutely divine, and the ricotta, which was heavenly. The ambience at Lucia's Italian is simply enchanting, making it the perfect spot for a romantic date or any special occasion. The staff here are incredibly friendly and attentive, adding to the overall warmth and welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant. There's a beautiful energy and vibe that permeates the space, making it a highly recommended dining destination—just steer clear of the steak!
Table of 5 went for dinner yesterday and we sat on the patio. They’ve got a fire pit or oven of some sort outside which also keeps the patio warm in the winter. The inside and outside is cozy & peaceful. Their Italian menu offered a unique variety of foods along with a wine menu. We were recommended by a friend crash and was extremely thankful for the experience. I haven’t eaten at a restaurant like this and enjoyed every dish. For starters, their bread they get from a bakery down the street was off the charts. Wine recommendation went great with our food. I was also told that they change their menu seasonally which is exciting. Our server Alex was amazing! Friendly and knowledgeable, I especially loved how easy he was to ask for anything. I feel that some servers are not only present and available for us to seek assistance so 5 star to Alex! We will be coming back again, hopefully in the winter on the patio! Can’t wait to try their new menu.
With lots of Italian restaurants in Toronto (let’s face it in Toronto Italian food IS Toronto food) you’d have to really pull out the stops to make your Italian restaurant stand out. Nestled in the DuPont and Symington area Lucia nails the culinary experience. Buts it’s pricey. Without a bottle of wine but including cocktails our price for the experience was $100 each. With perhaps $150. For dinner. Did I mention no wine? And two of my companions had the Summerlicious prix fixe menu. And I had a salad and spaghetti. Service was efficient. The music was at times so loud we could not hear one another (please see my other reviews on this topic). Worse we all agreed the staff would probably not welcome our request. I thought it was just me who felt there was a mood the staff were giving. Note - My niece lives down the street and me and my companions are professionals. I wore a tshirt and jeans. The point being these things shouldn’t be a factor in how you treat a guest. To be fair I think it just could’ve been an off night. Also need to mention the kindness of one of the staff (?) in taking an oversized package for me and holding it till we were finished. And so I’m erring on the side of generosity the 4 stars are for the food. I’ll have to come again to confirm attitude/atmosphere. Please let me know if you had similar or differing experiences. This is only my second “qualified” review out of 199! But my reviews are in the top 10% for a reason.
This was our first time dining at Lucia. My husband and I were seated at their lovely outdoor heated patio. The food was INCREDIBLE. The portions were perfect. We enjoyed every single bite. The cocktails were also such a delight! Our server Emily is such a sweet soul. You have got try this gem of a place out! You will be so happy you did. Thanks Lucia! We can’t wait to come back.
Wonderful dining experience. Cozy, excellent service and fabulous food.
Our server was great and the drinks were good but honestly the food is awful. We had apps, salad and pasta, all horrible
Vegetarian options: Limited vegetarian options - they do exist but its one salad and one pasta dish. Check the recent menus if youre more on the picky side! The focaccia and the brussel sprouts were delish. Food
Some of the best food you ll eat anywhere.
The pasta was amazing. We had the tortellini and Ziti and both loved it, the flavours were so yummy and the pasta was cooked perfectly. Would recommend both these dishes, as well as the focaccia, kale salad and tuna crudo! However, I do wish the bread was served with butter or something to dip it in.
Super fresh and delicious every time.
Asked to hurry up and finish my wine cause he needed the table and actually a bit RUDE over it. Rushing me to leave. Food was substandard. Prosciutto was cut to thick , any real Italian knows that the thickness of the Prosciutto makes the texture and taste very different. Theres better places that are more respectful to customers.
Best Italian menu in the city.
Four of us met for dinner on Saturday at 5:30. Food was very good but while waiting for one person who was later we were pressured to order. An hour later 6:45 we told we had to leave they needed the table. We had to finish our dessert and coffee on the patio. when It started to rain we paid and left. Next time tell customers of time limits up front
Been meaning to go to this neighbourhood spot for a while. They apparently have a new menu. Everything was excellent. This place definitely punches above its weight.
We loved everything about Lucia! The food and service are phenomenal. The mozzarella is a must! We re still talking about it today. We had the focaccia, mozzarella and steak tartare to start. Ziti, pork chops, Cod and lamb as mains. Everyone loved their meals. I had the lamb and it was delicious!!! Highly recommend Lucia and will be back!
Went and has a great meal with my family. The steak was better than any steakhouse in the city. The sides were amazing. The mozzarella is a must. The kale Ceasar was great aswell. My favourite was the porkchop Parmigiano
We loved the atmosphere, the service was impeccable (alex) and the pasta was honestly delicious. We had a great night and look forward to returning.
Had the pleasure to dine at Lucia last night with my daughter and son in law and my friend, the food was amazing especially the Smelts, reminded me of home, the tortellini was delicious, would definitely go back!
Awesome place! The food is outstanding. I was celebrating my birthday and they made it extra special
Ive been to Lucia 4-5 times for special occasions and casual dinners. It has always been excellent! Wonderful pasta.
I m not a blogger and I wouldn t embarrass myself taking a picture of the food at any table Last summer my friends Marla and Brian took me to Lucia for dinner. I live way downtown and it was quite a hike getting there from my hood. We sat at this unassuming laid back patio with super polite seemingly unaware staff and servers. Holy Mackerel! I can t express enough my intrigue. The wine knowledge and the frigging food blew me away. I had been trying to fit in a trip to Lucia the other side of the world for me ever since. In the rich cultural neighborhood they are in I had a couple art gallery openings to go to. Perfection. I got a reservation for exactly the time we required and believe me all the tables are great tables to sit at, remember it s the food and wine I was hunting down. I m a big guy and can eat! I had to try everything and I mean almost everything. I m not going to recommend anything in particular to order because that s nonsense in a place like Lucia. They give their all into every dish. Again the service and the wine recommendations were right on! Go crazy and share the dishes if you need to, so you can taste as many offerings as possible. Unless of course you are so fortunate to make this your local
cool relaxed vibe, delicious Italian food with excellent service! Grazie :)
Terrible place and terrible staff! We booked a birthday dinner for 8. When we showed up we found out that we had mistakenly booked a table outside. The patio was freezing, the heater was ineffective. When we wanted to leave after 1 drink (because we were cold), we were told that we needed to pay $35/person. The inside was full but the patio was empty yet they claimed that we were preventing others from booking. Very short sighted management wanting to make $35/each instead of having us revisit and spend hundreds of dollars.
I had the pleasure of dining at LUCIA for Valentines Day and in one word: Carina! This cute hidden gem is a local favourite. As soon as you walk in, you feel the ambiance - welcoming and charming. The food is made with love everything I tasted melted in my mouth. Hospitable and delicious dishes. Mike and Team have established a cozy restaurant that has left the best impressions. Do yourself a favour and visit this lovely restaurant LUCIA!
Lucia is one of our favourite restaurants, the food tastes like its right out of Italy and the service is top notch. We recently hosted my grandmas 90th birthday, we were setup on the patio with a family style menu. My family was ecstatic, the food and wine pairing was out of this would. We all left full and feeling like we just ate in a piazza in rome. Would highly recommend!
Enjoyed everything. So yummy. Would definitely recommend for authentic Italian. Also enjoyed the espresso martini!
Fabulous little restaurant! Great food!
They pack you in like sardines. Dont bother reserving a table they dont honor it.
Very disappointing. We made a reservation for a table over a week in advance. When we arrived at the restaurant, despite the fact that the majority of tables were free, we were informed that we had been assigned a table on the outdoor patio. Its February and despite the fact that the terrace is heated, it certainly wasnt warm enough to enjoy a nice meal. Very disappointing we will definitely not return.
Attention to ingredients and detail in every dish always executed at a very high level. The owners put their heart and soul into every evening and it shows. Bravo! Cannot wait to return.
Had a wonderful patio night out with a friend. Service was incredible and super friendly, for was very fresh and light and I didnt feel like I had a carb overload (despite definitely having a carb overload). Seasonal, fresh and simple well done dishes. Definitely a place I want to return to.
We dined at Lucias last night for the first time and we were very impressed. We ordered the bufala, speducci and focaccia as our appetizers and I would highly recommend all of them. For entrees, we ordered the gnocchi, garganelli, veal cutlets and the special pasta of the day -- everyone loved their meal. The gnocchi in particular I thought was delicious. We finished dinner with their Nutella tiramisu; Im not a big dessert person but I kept going back for more bites. Other than the food, what made the experience so great was our server, Alex, who was attentive and very friendly. If youre looking for a great spot for a date or small group, Lucias has amazing food and a great ambiance. Will definitely come back.
Really good...
This restaurant is a very delightful little spot tucked away on Dupont. The service was impeccable. The server suggested an excellent wine that was very unique and was highly knowledgeable. The interior is designed very nicely, its got warm dim lighting, and its fairly cozy. The seating is a little tight, but not too bad. Theres an absolutely gorgeous heated patio with little fire places, it was available in the middle of February, so I assume thats open all year round. It was sealed in a tent. Very cool. The food is high quality and fresh, the shrimp appetizer was the best thing I think we had. We also ordered the steak tartare which was lovely, but could have used maybe a little more salt or flavoring. Our mains were also very good, and fresh, I had the rockfish and the dish was delicious but again, could have maybe used a little more punch. The desert was awesome, and cocktails were also very good. I will definitely be going back. Dietary restrictions: They are able to make many dishes gluten free, but do not have GF pasta, crackers or bread. Many dishes were already gluten free. Kid-friendliness: I wouldnt bring kids to this restaurant in the evening. Its very adult.
Absolutely loved this place! I ordered the Agnolotti, Gnocchi & the Garganelli..it was phenomenal! I loved the twist of honey on the Agnolotti. All the pasta was fresh and the sauces had a unique twist. For appetizers we got the focaccia and the Bufala Mozzarella (from Puglia). Overall great experience-- HIGH value for your money.
The food was really delicious. Service was friendly but they took well over an hour to serve our food and forgot one of the dishes on top of that. it was too loud and hard to hold a conversation (small space, lots of people, loud music)
Love it here. Great food and atmosphere.
Great food, service and atmosphere!
I wish this was a better review. Server was alone with a trainee but she did her best. We felt rushed with the menu. Speaking of which the very pricey wine list is QR code only. I don t know about you but I love reading a wine list in print not on my phone. The menu is woefully inadequate with fresh veg starter options or sides for that matter. We split the Zitta pasta which was delicious. They were out of focaccia but the grilled sourdough made up for it. My main, old fashioned breaded veal cutlets were mostly breading. Veal was pretty sparse. The mixed greens were dressed with oil. No nothing else not even salt. My husband ( it was his birthday and I made a point of letting them know when I booked and when we arrived) enjoyed his ribs and gave the kale salad a 4 out of 5. Nothing was offered in the way of a birthday dessert. In fact no dessert was offered: I truly wanted this to be a great dinner. It was a celebration evening and the resto is in our hood. But we won t be back.
Wonderful food, terrific service, highly recommend!
Nice food, cozy place, but not worth the money spent on food
Delicious food and friendly staff
Love this little gem. Food is always excellent, and the service is always present without being intrusive. Great date night spot
Fabio has a cool car and a vibing locale for delicious eats and smart drinks. Dietary restrictions: Some gluten and dairy free accommodations available. Food : 5/5 |
FYI this is not a kid friendly restaurant as they dont have high chairs. Similar to previous reviews, some of the staff werent the most welcoming, perhaps because we had a 1 year old with us. I think the food quality is overrated. Pastas were good, secondi plates were disappointing (rock fish and veal cutlets). Nice patio vibe.
Achieves an amazing feeling of a local neighbourhood treasure while offering creative and superior cuisine. Reminds me of the places one stumbles upon by the roadside in the middle of nowhere in Italy yet feels intimate and is right here in Toronto and I can walk there!
So much potential to be excellent. Tons of little misses that could be easily solved for. Like, maybe QA the food before sending it out and make sure its not too salty or under salted.
I was really disappointed with Lucia. We went here for my dad s birthday (which I now regret), and the atmosphere and food were both far from ideal for a birthday meal. We sat on the patio where they were playing house music (lol) that seemed to get louder and louder as the evening progressed. My dad s pasta had very little salt, and the pork ribs we ordered lacked flavour. I was unimpressed by the really really good mozzarella - it was really really quite average. I wouldn t go back here, there are far better Italian restaurants in Toronto.
Such good service
We were looking forward to celebrating two birthdays at Lucia restaurant. The restaurant appeared inviting from the outside, and we made a reservation for a party of six people on Saturday. Unfortunately, two people fell ill with a severe flu on the morning of our event, so we proceeded with a party of four because we didnt want to reschedule our celebration. Upon entering the restaurant and informing the staff that two people wouldnt be able to attend, they promptly seated us and separated our table to accommodate two additional walk-in guests. This very table was occupied shortly after. We had a generally good time despite our 2 friends coukdnt make it; however, most of us ordered gnocchi, which we found to be overcooked. One of our group members tried a fish dish and found it quite tasty. Our evening concluded with a delightful tiramisu for dessert. Throughout our stay, we sensed a bit of rush from staff as the restaurant and heated patio were both fully occupied. Given the limited space, the owner seemed eager to maximize the number of guests for the evening. When it came time to settle the bill, the staff informed us that we would be charged $75 for the two missing persons (the average cost of 2 meals), despite the fact that they were able to fill those spots with other guests. We attempted to discuss this with the owner, who, unfortunately, exhibited extreme rudeness toward us. We felt unfairly treated because the two spots were used for walk-in guests, and we didnt cancel, but rather, two of our friends fell quite ill and couldnt attend. Its worth noting that we had notified the restaurant when making the reservation that it was a birthday celebration, but our experience was marred by the owners disrespectful behaviour.
I love Lucia. The food, wine and ambience are outstanding. The staff are efficient, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and super nice!
One of my favorite place in Toronto
Great ambiance, lovely service and delicious food. We sat inside but the heated patio looks really cozy! The fried cauliflower is soooo good.
We were able to sit in the enclosed patio with heaters and a wood burning stove. Very enjoyable. The food was great. We tried the Charred Cabbage Salad and the Fried Cauliflower as our appetizers which were very tasty.
Fantastic experience. The food was some of the finest cuisine I ve ever had. Alex our waiter made our visit so wonderful too.
First time there. Just average, very very far from making the list to the top Italian place in town. It was a lot of first time - having to pay for focaccia or bread to accompany to mozzarella di bufala .. which was served as is with 2 slices of prosciutto .. - no balsamic vinegar!! - no side offer to accompany the main courses (please refer to the starter options for that as per waitress comments) In fairness, the steak was good, the lamb chops (even though on the menu they say lamb rack .. which is not what you get) were good, great cooking and tenderness, good flavour for the lamb. The sausage pasta were good too. The place itself is cosy and the patio looks very nice. So yeah a mitigated average overall experience.
Awesome place fantastic appies. Fantastic steak. Great atmosphere. Wonderful staff
One of the best restaurants in the city. Delicious food and fantastic service.
Had a lovely dinner last night for a friends birthday party. Excellent service and the food was delicious!
very lovely! excellent atmosphere, great service, great food/wine/cocktails...and the tiramisu was heaven on earth!
Amazing food and great staff!! Grill was fresh and amazing
Excellent food with a creative twist and good portions. Cozy atmosphere
The food was incredibly fresh, the service amazing.
My family and I just had dinner at Lucia for the first time. The food and cocktails are absolutely amazing. Our server Alex was very attentive and kind. The attention to detail really made this experience special. Will be back again soon!
We had such a wonderful meal at Lucia - the menu was based on seasonal availability and the best ingredients, and everything we ordered was a grand slam. Excellent service and a beautiful ambiance. This is a sleeper hit on Dupont - don t miss it!
The BEST dining experience Ive had in a long time. My partner and I are visiting Toronto and we chose this place as our first dinner spot and it did not disappoint. Evert single dish we had was next level delicious. You could taste the care in it. The folks serving, cooking, and slinging drinks were amazing. So good. I would say that this is a must go to in Toronto if youre wanting Italian food that is cooked and served with passion and love. Also, the wine - divine. Thank you!!
Full disclosure, the owner is my neighbour. An authentic Italian experience. Quoting my wife: he makes the pasta sing , all the pasta dishes are amazing. Go enjoy what I think is one of the best Italian restaurants in the city.
The food, the service, the Atmosphere was outstanding. A true gem in the neighbourhood. Dont walk run to this beautiful gem
Service was lacking and so was the food. My partners hanger stake had very level of cook on it from rare to well done. It was very confusing and we couldn t even flag down a server if we wanted one. Dishes were very salty. Our dessert took over 40 mins to arrive. Would not go back or ever recommend
Lucia is an incredible dining experience with true farm to table local ingredients. The seasonal menu is deeply rooted in Italian dishes and executed flawlessly.
This place has a nice ambiance on the patio. The menu options sound interesting but overall, we felt that something was lacking in the flavour (maybe salt?). When we visited, they had a special menu item of pasta with shredded rooster meat which sounded interesting. The speducci consists of skewers of bbq lamb. The centre was a bit pink so watch out if you are avoiding raw food. They also had a starter called The best tomatoes youll ever eat which basically is sliced tomatoes with salt and slivers of basil. Honestly, you can make that yourself at home... order something else. The restaurant charges for bread; we did not think the bread was special. There is free street parking on Parkman avenue and Perth street. Parking: Free street parking on Parkman avenue, Franklin and Perth streets.
Went for Summerlicious 2022. Nice atmosphere, great food, excellent friendly service and good company. What else can I say, sat in covered patio and overall great night out. Parking: Local street availability.
I live in the area and noticed the charming, romantically-lit patio as I walked by. Figured it could be a cute spot for a date night and popped in to ask if you have a vegan option on the menu, as my partner and I are plant-based. I was told that you do not - could you consider adding a vegan menu item or two? Lucia looks like one of the cutest patios on Dupont and Id love to enjoy a meal here before the end of summer!
Ive never given a one star review in my life, but Lucia gets one. Id been excited about the restaurant for a while sounded like a great wine-centric add to the neighborhood. The main reason for my one star: they completely screwed up and miscommunicated on my partners food allergies, claiming theyd given her a dairy free dressing which in fact included milk. She was sick for days. Also, the food and wine list were mediocre at best. The only good thing was the seasonal heirloom tomatoes. (Thanks mother nature!) Deeply disappointed.
Best food in Toronto. Clean, quality, and professional staff.
Great food really really good service!
Love Lucia!
We are on the outdoor patio and even though it was cold outside (-1°) it was pleasant with the blankets and the heaters surrounding us. We ordered the fried artichokes and the focaccia to start; the artichokes were the best thing we ate, the focaccia was nothing special. For dinner I had the special which was a stuffed pasta with mascarpone and truffes; I usually love mushroom and truffle items but this didn t do it for me; it wasn t bad but it felt like it was missing something.
Once upon a time this place was a neighbourhood fav. You ve changed. Horrible service and the food close to inedible. I ll never go back and never recommend anyone to go.
I understand that prices have gone up in the economy, but you still need to match quantity/quality with price. Way too expensive. I would not eat here again very disappointed.
Had the most amazing dinner. Great food and service. Cant wait to return.
Best restaurant I ve been to in a while. The food was absolutely amazing and the pasta is all fresh and made in house. Service was impeccable. Love love love the farm to table. Definitely will be returning soon
I went to Lucia Saturday the food, cocktails, ambiance and staff were great! The ziti , veal cutlet alla milanese and tiramisu were all amazing. Ill be going back!
I got this referral from a friend and it is a good place to have a sandwich. They have a good structure outside where you can stay a bit warm while waiting. Otherwise, you can pre order.
Wonderful first experience here - with the insane difficulties surrounding opening with zero to little notice in Covid times, they have done a beautiful job. Patio is so cozy, with warm fireplaces that leave your clothes smelling like a beautiful campfire without the smoke in your eyes or exhaustion of setting up a tent! ;) the food was amazing - recommend the shrimp and lamb, and their cocktails are ready to withstand any season. All of the staff- regardless of it it was our server or others checking to ensure we were warm and comfortable, were outstanding. Thank you for a little piece of normalcy in all of this!
Food was good but definitely not worth the price. Service was AWFUL. We were there over 2 hours, just 2 people! And for the food, the price definitely feels overpriced for the portions. I get its busy but the table next to us, who seem to know someone got food super quick. Guess we have to be VIPs?
Great food. Awesome service.
Every dish is a hit! Great seasonal fare. Excellent for many occasions.
Extremely overpriced for what you get. Four of us spent $330 for a couple of plates of pasta, a couple of appetizers and the grilled meat platter and a few drinks. Their least expensive bottle of wine is $55. This is not a high end restaurant, its a trattoria!! I just dont understand why anyone would want to pay those prices for average food and drinks. If Im spending $165 per couple, I want to be impressed, at least slightly. The cocktails were stingy in terms of amounts, the service was not great, too cool for school kind of attitude. The food wasnt bad, just way too much $$$ for what theyre serving.
Very impressed with the food here last night. Talented chef. Favourite new place in the Junction. Only request would be more depth on the old world Italian reds.
Lucia is a somewhat expensive restaurant with delicious and inventive food as well as excellent service.
We had a nice meal, but a bit inconsistent. The perch was a little bland, for example, and quite expensive. Heads up that you cant access the menu unless you have a cell phone; we had to borrow one from staff.
This place used to be good - it is now just an overpriced place with horrible service. Food was mediocre at best - we tried the mixed grill for two and the meat was very dry. Restaurant manager / owner was very rude - we arrived with a reservation and he just let us stand there while he chatted with his friends and did not acknowledge our arrival; then when more of his friends came, he seated them. When I confronted the manager / owner about this, he said it was my fault for letting other people go by. Never going there again - spare yourself the big disappointment.
A true gem. One of the best restaurants in Toronto. Great food, great service, fabulous vibe. Inventive cooking with an Italian bent. Also one of the best patios in Toronto. Kudos to Lucia!
We have been here several times and loved it. Not so much the last time. The food was pretty good but has become overpriced. The corkage fee is now 50 bucks if you bring your own wine. We are not sure if we will come back or not.
Success can turn on a dime--and this may become the case with Lucia post-COVID.. After a wonderful meal at this Dupont eatery in July, my wife asked that we return there for her 60th birthday. I booked for six people at 8 p.m. (the last sitting) tomorrow and was told for that number theyd cost $75 each. Never heard of that but I agreed because my wife loved the food. Then I found out from one of the owners, Michael, that their policy was that he got to choose what our party would be served -- and by the way, the $75 didnt include liquor. In other words, if my wife liked a particular dish, she couldnt get an extra. He informed me, rudely and without regret, that this was the way it was and I was free to cancel if I wanted. He told me that three times. Two days before my wifes birthday I had to scramble to find another restaurant. But as a retired journalist of 31 years, who wrote about how business suffered during the pandemic, I have no sympathy for a restaurant owner who treats patrons in such a cavalier manner and who seemed to be terribly bothered by a larger party. Good luck to Michael. I will never return to Lucia and will make sure I spread the word.
Staff wasnt very friendly, suggestive or polite, there to work and thats it didnt seem to enjoy themselves. Food descriptions were awesome, but when it came out portions were so small but what was worst was flavour. Very bland all around for most items when they had so much potential. Left here hungry still after 2 apps and main. Unfortunately nothing that would draw me back here. Seems like a place people just want to be seen at more than anything.
Amazing
The only thing going for this place is the patio. The food is bland (does anyone in the kitchen taste what leaves the kitchen?), the homemade pasta tough and if I wanted to open some canned tomatoes and pour them over pasta I can go to the spaghetti factory and shoot myself. And the service is boring and lacklustre like it s menu. Save your money and if you have to go because, oh I don t know, you re invited and can t say no, stick with a liquid dinner.
Great food great ambience
We had our first experience at Lucia a couple months ago and it went well; the service was ok (a couple hiccups but we really enjoyed the food so wanted to try again); and we wanted to bring another couple for our second visit. The other couple unfortunately had to cancel the day before the reservation. However, Lucia makes it very difficult to cancel a reservation. You can book through the OpenTable app, but you have to phone to cancel. Aside from being inconvenient, the main problem is that no one answers the phone so that you can cancel. I called the restaurant, no one answered and I could not leave a message. We wanted to reschedule, but I m pretty upset that they charged my credit card $140 because we needed to cancel. We would have been return customers, but it will be hard to enjoy a future experience when they treat customers this way. I understand the need to charge a fee for repeat offenders; and perhaps even for first-time offenders - but $140 is WAY too much. Also, I can t control whether our friends cancel, so even if we ended up going, we have to pay $35 per person that didn t show on top of our bill? We ve been eating out lots to support restaurants and make up for lost time, but these kinds of policies to recover from Covid will lose customers over the long run.
Fantastic food. Amazing service, and a great patio. Id recommend anything on the menu but the meat platter was unreal 10/10
Had a great meal and some beautiful wine. Its as fine dining as im interested. No comments
Great food and service. The Gnocchi were clouds dipped in tomato sauce. We will be back.
Best food ever! My favorite restaurant to T.O!
Ive gone a couple times this year since I live in this neighbourhood and each time my experience has been truly mediocre the cocktails are the only reason to come here. I was denied service by the owner which I was about to drop a of money on share size bites to eat and cocktails for two. Strictly dinner service only . Ok I Got it. I took an Uber over to Bar Isabel food is better there anyways. I won t be returning back to Lucia due to lack of service and transparency.
1st visit for NYE Prix Fixe dinner. Dinner date & I made sure to order both dishes when there were 2 choices, with only time that did not work out was for the main. We tasted everything and it was all superbly executed. The amuse-bouche was intriguing savoury ice cream. It made you want more food, setting us up for the antipasti. Steak tartare was a revelation! I had a version last year, and could not figure out why people would go nuts over this dish ... I now have a standard for this dish thats worthy of adoration. Carrot salad was a beautiful dish that was perfectly dressed and had delightful texturtes and accents of roasted almonds. Pasta dish was truly amazing. Unlike other restaurant pasta dishes, this was something I could not create at home. The mains of Osso Buco, and Sea Bream were so comforting, and arrived piping hot. I loved both dishes. The dessert course was like the amuse: olive oil gelato, with chocolate pudding ... beautiful mix of sweet and savory in ice cream form. Will come back again to this local neighborhood for sure! Service and food are absolutely pro!
Came here on a Saturday night for a date night and the food & services were excellent! The restaurant is new - only opened 3 months ago; its the same owners from local kitchen and wine bar on Queen west, which we also love. I had the scallop for appetizer and ribeye special - they were fantastic! My partner had the pappardelle lamb ragu for main and he love it. We are so glad to have this great spot in our hood and cant wait to return!
Everything from the wine to the dessert was fantastic. I highly recommend this restaurant. Great food, great decor, and great ambiance. Perfect for a date night.
Good food and service with nice atmosphere
Great Italian restaurant with exceptional food.
The best Italian dining experience I have ever had. I came here with my wife on Valentines day and found every dish delicious, from antipasti to dolce. Will definitely come again!
Second time here. Food was beautiful, as was the service and ambience. Highly recommend if youre into modern Italian food.
We had such a lovely experience at Lucia and cant wait to visit again. Our server Stephanie went above and beyond to make our dinning experience one we ll remember. The flavour profiles are unique and homey all in one! A great place for a date night! 10/10 recommend!
This place was great. Loved it. Very good wine, delicious food, great service.
Absolutely delicious food and Michael could not have been more of a delight to deal with. We ordered from the limited time (shelter-in-place) takeout menu - dinner for two with sides. Ordering and picking up was a breeze. All the food items were packaged perfectly, heated up well, and easy to transport. The portions are big - we fed a family of four (two little kids) easily and had leftovers. This brought so much joy during a tough time of being cooped up at home in quarantine!
I came here with my partner for a patio dinner this Thursday, made a reso by phone the day before. The patio is well spaced for social distancing and super cute and shady in the Toronto heat. We ordered the Brussels, sardine toast, pork parm, gnoccci and a seasonal dessert. Loved it all, great value, service and portions. Will be back!
Patio is great for a nice dinner option during a crazy time.
Had a pleasant dining experience at Lucia. Felt safe dining on their patio.. tables were distanced, and they had hand sanitizers readily available on their tables. Service was friendly and prompt. Food was delicious, but the appetizers we chose were a little lacking. While the steak tartare and octopus crostini were good.. something was missing in flavours - needed a little more intensity for me. We also had the lamb, mackerel and gnocchi. Those were all very tasty - especially the gnocchi... the sauce was delicious.
Food, service and drinks were impeccable!
Outstanding dinner ... we worked our way through five appetizers and a couple grilled sides....each plate was better than the one before!!! Brilliant!!! Staff friendly, service excellent
What a cute restaurant. Great Italian food. A must go.
Awesome place, awesome food
Amazing food! Tiramisu is crazy good and the patio looks great!
Terrible customer service
Beautiful patio and nice waitstaff but inconsistency in food and wine. The steak tartare and octopus crostini were good but not great. The pasta special, spaghetti alla chittara with bolognese, was not good, the spaghetti noodles were not salted enough and the sauce was lackluster, bolognese should be rich, unctuous and full of flavour the dish did not meet those characteristics, the last dish we had, mackerel with romesco was ok. We also had 2 glasses of wine which were inconsistently poured. One glass was really stingy and well below the 2nd glass pour. If youre going to pour small glasses they should at least be consistent. This was my second time at Lucia and I will not be going back.
Here on a Friday evening. Even with covid, gorgeous vibes on the patio. Great server: informative, attentive but not hovering. Food: disappointing. To say the least. Bland, warm. Pasta didnt feel fresh. 2 stars only because of vibes and service.
Not only is the interior of Lucia elegant yet comfortable but so is the food! I absolutely love @eatwithLucia. Every item on the menu has been perfectly thought out and every ingredient compliments each other. Lucia is a must go to restaurant!
$$$, limited menu.
Wow, has to be the best Italian food I have eaten in the city in a while. I got the squid ink pasta, hands down one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had. Highly recommended!
Thanks so much for the incredible service and delicious food on our 19th Anniversary. Our little table on the sidewalk outside was romantic at best
Lucia is a great little restaurant with a nice patio. It is heated and slightly enclosed so it should be good for most weather conditions. The staff were great and the food was good as well. The brussel sprouts are absolutely fantastic, a highlight dish! The gnocchi was very nice as well. I had the roasted rooster and found it to be lacking in flavor and texture. Otherwise this is an great place for a date. The patio is a little loud, but its not awful.
Had a great experience here with some girl friends, nice heated patio with blankets if you get really cold. Food and drinks were good, portion sizes are on the smaller size but the soup and apps were amazing!
We had a lovely experience at Lucia! Romantic/ intimate ambiance with delicious Italian fare to match. Out of all the dishes we ordered, I would highly recommend the Bruschetta dellorto & cappelletti (featured below). The calamari and the gnocci werent our favourite, but its likely due to the other items being stand-out dishes! Beyond the food, all staff were outfitted with safety masks, there was well thought out outdoor seating to try accommodate as much physical distancing as possible and there was also a heat source in close proximity to most of the seats. Will definitely look to return.
Delicious.
Weve been to Lucia a couple of times and are so glad it is in our neighbourhood! I hope they are able to survive the pandemic because it was an amazing little spot before Covid and we dined on the patio in July when we were finally able to start dining again and it was amazing then as well. We are INCREDIBLY picky about food and everything weve had at Lucia has been fantastic. Especially the beautiful dish I had in July (homemade tortelli in a cream sauce which I usually shy away from because Im lactose intolerant. Totally worth it!!!) The service has been great as well. I highly recommend Lucia! On a side note: I feel its unfair to judge our restaurants during this pandemic as harshly as we would under normal circumstances especially if you are ordering takeout. Food of this caliber is never going to be as good once you get it home. Please be kind during these insane times. Our restaurants have been through a lot and are doing the best they can and our city would not be what it is without them.
Fantastic restaurant and space with amazing and attentive staff. I am excited to have this gem in the neighbourhood, so much attention to detail with the food. Went for lunch with my coworkers, and we all loved it. Will be back again to try some of the other menu options.
Ambiance is great. Fresh and contemporary but still cozy. The food is spectacular. We have had 2 fantastic meals and can t wait to come back. You can see the attention to detail in the food. Service was excellent.
My wife and I dropped in for a Thursday evening dinner, and had a lovely time. We didnt have a reservation, but were able to get a couple of spots at the bar, and we were super happy there. The staff were friendly and welcoming, despite it being a packed restaurant, and the bar stools were very comfortable. The menu is great, with plenty of vegetarian options. The wine list has an extensive by-the-glass offering, and we each had a couple of glasses of something delicious. We started with the house-made burrata which was ridiculously good! We shared the gnocchi (without lardo), and the pane panelle, and were very happy with everything. We dont usually order dessert, but had the cassata, which was also outstanding! Were very happy to have Lucia in the neighbourhood - thanks for a great meal!
Food was great and Host and wait staff are on point.
Not a good/friendly place to eat with young kids, based on our experience. We got the clear impression they didnt want us there with our one-year-old. We made an online reservation for a celebratory lunch. We noted that the reso was for three adults and one baby (around a year old) who needed a highchair. An hour before the reservation I got a call saying they didnt have a highchair. No prob, I said we would bring the booster seat. They told me a booster seat wouldnt work and told us to seat our kid in the stroller to eat. I checked photos of the dining area and a booster seat would have worked...? When we arrived they offered us a table for three people, not three people and a baby. Its a tight space and there wasnt room for us. We decided to go down the street to Mattachioni (which has two highchairs and was more than happy to serve us). We were really looking forward to eating here as a family and were disappointed with the roadblocks that Lucia kept putting in the way.
Lovely Italian restaurant in the Junction area serving house-made pasta and amazing desserts! Good service with casual vibes.
Excellent, a big fan of their other restaurant this did not disappoint. Every dish was fantastic, really enjoyed the burrata and gnocchi dishes.
Another fantastic restaurant by the team that is behind Local Kitchen on queen queen west. Really great home cooking down to earth Italian food. It is already popular so BOOK in advance
25 for a three course lunch that was definitely worth it. Delicious.
I had the most amazing meal and experience - this restaurant is a gem!! I took my cousins here for a birthday and it was the best meal I have had in ages. The food was out of this world good especially the pasta with fresh truffles. I should also say that Mike and Vlad also deserve special mention there service and attention to detail really raised the level of the meal and experience, as was their dessert choices for us. I would highly recommend this restaurant and I will be back
Great food, great service, great atmosphere
