350 King Street West 2nd Floor REITMAN SQUARE, Toronto, ON M5V 3X5, Canada
Luma is a contemporary restaurant that pays homage to Toronto’s rich, multicultural landscape. Globally inspired and locally sourced, Chef Michael Wilson’s menu showcases a diverse range of fresh fish and seafood, quality meats, and seasonal vegetables. Warm and inviting, the dining room and bar are designed with rich woods, leather and stone, and the cozy lounge is filled with plush sofas and eye-catching artwork. Luma’s second-floor location in the TIFF Bell Lightbox and its floor-to-ceiling windows offer outstanding views of King Street West and the downtown action.
I came here tonight for the first time for a 10 person holiday dinner. Service started out okay, not super attentive but not terrible. However after ordering things fell apart pretty quickly. Our server didn't order the right entree for one of our guests. Not only did it take an extra 25 minutes for them to receive their steak, so they weren't able to eat with the rest of the group. The rest of us found the food extremely salty, waters were not filled even after asking to the point where one of my friends grabbed a water bottle off of the host stand for the table. To top that off, we were charged for sparkling water without being made aware, the charge is small and I don't care about that but you should allow people to make the choice for themselves. When we asked to speak to the manager, our server returned without anyone else and offered no apologies, or explanations. I get with holiday season in full swing things become busy but we were one of 4 groups in the whole restaurant and for the price it wasn't worth it at all. Most definitely won't be returning
Went here around 530pm, it was fairly empty. This was my first time here. The staff was attentive and friendly. I ordered the ceviche and one wine from their happy hour selection ($1 less expensive). The ceviche was small; like 5 bites small (don't let the pic fool you; the shell it's served on is almost fkat). It was delicious, but for $28 it should be bigger. Sorry but will opt for a bit more food for the sake price elsewhere.
Luma delivers amazing food and attentive service. Highly recommend the truffle mushroom rigatoni! It was so rich and creamy. Also, the Scallops ceviche was a crowd pleaser. It was super fresh, and the presentation was cute.
To start we had the Luma Parmesan Fries. They were too salty but overall still very tasty. The Beef Tartare and the Scallop Ceviche were fresh and flavourful. The Cesar Salad was enjoyable and the white anchovies were a nice touch. An entrée that stood out for me was the Roasted Pork Belly. The different textures and flavours were complementary to one another. The herbed farro risotto made every bite so satisfying. The Truffle Mushroom Rigatoni was also a favourite amongst the table. The Chocolate Mousse Cake is a great choice for chocolate lovers. Not too sweet but very decadent. Having it accompanied with a cappuccino on the side was exquisite. The assortment of cocktails were delightful. Love the names. The table was thoroughly impressed by the presentation for The Queen of the South cocktail. Not only was the ambience and setting superb, the staff were also very friendly, attentive and courteous. The second floor patio overlooking King St West with a perfect view of the CN Tower was a charming touch. This is random but the hand soap in the bathroom was so pleasant. The small details are what make a restaurant enjoyable. You can tell by the attention to detail how much care and thought has been put into this establishment. One of my new favorite spots in Toronto.
Went around 2pm and it was super empty in the restaurant side (late lunch so we were very hungry)- yet we still got our mains 1 hour after 😭 the carbonara was surprisingly not that tasty, i would not get it again. Service was also pretty bland. I would recommend the fritters
Hidden gem on the second floor of the Lightbox. Food was superb & TIFF was just beginning so very busy around the building. Views are also a plus dining here. There is also an outside patio if you're after alfresco dining.
I remember visiting this restaurant before COVID, it was not a bad place to eat in this neighbourhood. I visited this place again this week and I was really disappointed. I think there is a pretty big gap between the quality of the food and the prices LUMA charges for it. For example, the crispy pork belly risotto was not well prepared. The pork belly was not thoroughly cooked so the inside of the pork was distinctly different from the outer edges. The fatty part in the middle was pasty where the outside was translucent. The cocktails were decent, but not $20 decent. The service was attentive and that remained the bright spot of the visit.
Lovely restaurant located in the TIFF building on the second floor. Very open ambiance with friendly and attentive service. Decent happy hour drink selection. I got the salmon dish - it was cooked very well with a crispy layer on top, and corn chowder that was very tasty!
Delicious food and excellent service!! The washrooms are also really nice lol
(Nov 9, 830pm) - Stopped in to Luma by accident while looking for somewhere for a late dinner and what a pleasant surprise! Our server Dhyey was an absolute doll, he was attentive, had great recommendations and so much personality - he was the perfect mix of polite and professional, but with the right amount of gentle ribbing/sassiness that was a delight! We ordered a few cocktails, bottle of wine and a couple appys as well as our mains. Everything was delicious, although the pasta I ordered was just not hitting as I wanted, and when he came to check on us we said everything was great (and 99% of it was!!) but he could tell I didnt love my dish and insisted on having the kitchen make me something else. I really hate sending food back, but Dhyey was so insistent on making it right, which I really appreciated. We were stuffed and werent going to have dessert, but he brought out a surprise creme brulee (my absolute dessert weakness) with a Congratulations spelled out in chocolate as wed mentioned we were celebrating our recent elopement with a friend that evening. Overall it was a top-class meal, and we had the best server experience - thanks Luma & Dhyey!
Had dinner at Luma before catching a show. Ambiance was beautiful and food was excellent. Most of all, the service was phenomenal. Our server went above and beyond and made sure our occasion was celebrated. Huge thanks to Dhyey!
Chewy roast pork belly, salty fries, vanilla sauce like crème brûlée, everything we ordered were disappointing. A ery nice restaurant in good location but disappointing food. Not worth taking photos Service
I didnt feel welcomed. Its a really nice environment, quite empty on a Sunday evening around 7pm. Its my friends go-to place so he invited me to eat there with him. It was a surprise so I wasnt really dressed up for it (I was wearing a hoodie). My friend came in and asked for a table, the waiter insisted we go to the bar and pointed to the direction. We went and it was not too comfortable so we decided to go back and ask again for a table. The waiter took a while in finding us a seat. We asked why, seeing that the place is empty and he responded because these seats in front are not good . The waiter then asked if we are leaving soon for a movie or something. My friend fesponded no. We got a seat, but again I felt watched. Im not casually going to places like this if Im not dressed for it. Lesson learned.
What a wonderful restaurant this is. We visited a few weeks ago and it was fantastic. Service was great and the food delicious. I had the Chicken Supreme which was SO gorgeous. I feel the name doesnt do it justice as there are so many different versions of Chicken Supreme. Id add the word Deluxe at least My partner had the Snow Crab Carbonara, another delicious dish. Cant wait to come back and try more dishes.
Delicious prix fixe theatre menu. Super speedy service to get you to your show on time.
Dined at Luna this past weekend and I have to give the wait staff all the stars in the world! The attention to detail and attentiveness was incredible!! Dinner was very sad, and tasteless. Fancy resturant with little to no culinary skill. As I was walking to my table I stepped on a roach as well, so that set the tone for my night. Coffee came out like warm at best. Definitely will not be back as there are a number of other restaurants to try. The communal washroom was disgusting no one cleans the area. The stairwell which leads into the building has homeless people sleeping right by the door, be careful as your safety should be kept in mind. All in all, unfortunate experience.
Nice view from patio. Pre show drinks and meal with girlfriends
Its a nice space with a nice atmosphere and the service is excellent, but the food and drink fall very short. They are both very bland and basic. The cocktails lack complexity and the food seems to have no seasoning or herbs other than salt and pepper. My partner said his carbonara was the worst hes ever had. Despite the amazing service, we wont be back unless the food and drink improve.
First time at Luma, we hosted an event there, and it was an amazing and great experience. Our attendees had a great time, the food was great and the staff was amazing!
A fantastic city centre restaurant. Great menu, lovely food - something for all tastes - a very good wine selection and to top it off brilliant attentive friendly staff. Great evening out.
2024 update: Luma still an absolute gem for those in TO seeking a cocktail experience thats nothing short of extraordinary. Shoutout to Tarun, the new maestro in charge. This guy knows his stuff and adds an extra sprinkle of magic to the already fantastic vibe. Magic Hour, from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm and kicking in again after 8 pm. Perfectly crafted cocktails The staff? Lets just say theyre not just attentive; theyve mastered the art of mind-reading. Shoutout to Sam and Rhodri. Your wish is their command. Food quality always top-tier. Lumas esthetic and ambiance is classy. Its the reason I keep coming back. New menu alert! More deliciousness awaits! Massive thanks to the hardworking squad at Luma for making every visit a memory worth toasting to!
We were there after work and it was happy hour so that was a fun first time trying the place out.
Great location. Terrace views and atmosphere are excellent. Food was very good and service was excellent!
Ouff; unfortunately, our Luma experience was a bust. Pros: -Focaccia 9.5/10, soooo good. -Caesar salad 9/10. Traditional, with lots of anchovy flavour. - Steak was tough, but thats due to the cut. 7/10 -Burrata 6/10. Beautiful plating, but oil soaked bread and too much salt. Needed more flavour to contrast the subtle cheese flavour. Bland. - Drink service was a bit slow, but the staff were friendly. I dont think I noticed a manager on the floor. Cons: -Truffle pasta tasted like mushroom soup pasta. Would not recommend. However, pasta was cooked well. -Lamb Ragu was very gamey (to be expected) but tasted a bit sour. My Dad could not finish it. -Servers did not refill waters (and the restaurant was emptyyy, maybe 6 tables) -The washrooms were bad, and Im only saying this because of the $$$. If I was at a McDonalds, I wouldnt care. Soap dispensers were very dirty, and toilet paper low (refills on the side, but for $$$, staff can do a washroom check)... just not up to expectations. - The ambiance, in general, was so off. Empty restaurant, soft piano music, bright lighting, and dated decor. Unfortunately there are better options in the radius.
We went yesterday (Friday) and it was completely empty. They took forever to come check on us, so much so that I had to keep getting up to grab their attention. On top of that, everyones pasta was undercooked and when they brought new plates, the pasta no longer had any cheese (did they run out? strange since we were the only people there). We were a large group, so we had to pay gratuity, which I dont mind normally, but given that I had to keep getting up, I feel like this whole experience was a waste of money. I am extremely disappointed.
Just dropped by to have a quick drinks. I liked the view of King St. Will come back to try food.
Very lovely place. I had a good time.
Great food, drinks and atmosphere
It was a beautiful restaurant and the service was good but I didnt like what I ordered , the bathrooms were clean and they had live music which was great
Great happy hour priced cocktails. I had the salmon which was excellent. My partner had the snow crab carbonara, but it was far too salty. She probably should have sent it back, but she was too polite and didnt say anything, so we didnt give them a chance to correct it .
Service good and atmosphere ok but food was terrible. Came for a corporate dinner, the starter (brandade) was terrible, I replaced to the soup which was not good either. Got the truffle pasta as a main and stopped eating after three bites. The key lime pie was not good either. Very disappointing meal altogether
Our waitress greeted kindly and took our order fairly quickly. We ordered a Caesar salad and they accommodated us splitting it so we could share it. We were disappointed in our snow crab carbonara. We realized as our dishes were almost completed that they had NO crab in them, and the peas were not cooked. We brought it to our waitresses attention, and then she seemed to avoid us. We were told that since we ate our meal they could do nothing for us. Pardon? This was the special of the night, we paid a higher price for the meal, your chef forgets to put crab in the dish, and we are at fault for eating it? In addition , we were uncomfortable complaining, but thought it best to say something. The response to their error was subpar as we were not lying about their error. We ordered desert which was probably the highlight of the meal, but were nervous because while our waitress knew we were attending a play, she was no where in sight. We just barely made it to our play. Honestly, it was a nice atmosphere, but I don t know that I d go back for a second meal.
Our experience at Luma was great! Specially thanks to all the staff; they were friendly and knowledgeable! Food in general was good but a little bland. Would come here again Food : 3/5
A very nice dining experience RUINED by loud live music playing SO LOUD that conversation was IMPOSSIBLE. Pity. Wheelchair accessibility: Good wheelchair accessibility.
The five stars are for the drinks. Get the Wolf of Bay Street
I like the vibe of the restaurant. The washroom were clean however the water was freezing cold. The service was good. We had 2 kids with us and the brought out smaller cutlery and small plates. The food was ok. We had: The luma burger, I wish the mushrooms were cut smaller because they were falling off my burger. The egg benedict, Im not sure if they were consistent with the type of bread that was used for the it because I saw other tables with different breads. Our bread was super difficult to cut, really hard. The eggs, and the side salad were good though. The mac and cheese, was probably the higblight of the meal. My kids rated this was their favorite. The chicken tenders, I felt they could have been crunchier. Fries couldve been crunchier as well. Drinks We order the luma-ade which was super tasty. Really enjoyed that. Parking: Parking can be found underground the Tiff. Kid-friendliness: Had a kids menu and gave smaller cutlery and plates.
Very friendly atmosphere thanks to the presence of a jazz group. However, $26 for 6 tiny, flavorless oysters is insulting. The cod was good but the accompaniment very basic. The restaurant especially seems to benefit from the fame of its owner, the cuisine was without surprise.
Luma is an incredibly luxurious lounge located in the TIFF Lightbox Theatre that provides an opportunity for a great variety of meals and beverages including cocktails. Their vodka martini is not exactly where it could be. And come on, what is a vodka martini without jumbo pimento olives. I give Luma 4 out of 5 mustaches. Uncle Carmine is not impressed with Lumas vodka martinis.
Weird food idea bland. Slow service despite no crowd If you re looking to impress people for a corporate dinner There are better places in Downtown
Food was bland. Honestly, the food looked kind of okay, but very little taste. The place was kind of nice looking, but the food itself not good enough. I don t recommend it, sorry. Food
The food was average at best. Ordered the focaccia bread, which was dry and the octopus starter which was overcooked and bland. Was happy it came with lemons to add a bit of flavour. My husband ordered off the winterlicious menu and seemed to like his beef but the apple fritter with ice cream was one of the worst desserts weve had. It was a cooked apple coated in raw oats. The service was slow, but at least we had a great view of the CN tower.
Winterlicous here was amazing. The food was great and filling. Thank you all staff BOH and FOH for making tonight feel extra special Food
Great
Great place for a happy hour cocktail.
Dined at Luma yesterday, everything from booking in my reservation to the service went very well. The host that took my reservation I wish I could remember her name was a total gem. She was very cooperative and asked me if I wanted to book for valentine s which I thought was a nice touch. The Star was my server Ileana , being a valentine s weekend the restaurant was quite packed up but she never made us feel left out. She was very hospitable, caring and her menu knowledge was incredible. She made us feel like home and truly was incredible. Thank you O&B team for giving us such a caring service and we will definitely see you guys soon :)
Went for a company dinner. It was a set menu.
Waiter was attentive. Ambience was wonderful, great view and never felt rushed.
Great place to grab dinner before a show
Delicious food with complex flavours. Chef Michael Wilson is awesome.
Quiet and very nice place. But food selection is very limited. Quality of food is great and service is amazing though.
Amazing food and selection of drinks. Went for New Year s Eve dinner and the service and food were great. Everything was professional and handled with care. Fiona and Camila took great care of us!
It was my 60th Birthday and wanting a special trip and supper for my milestone we chose this restaurant close to our hotel. We were delighted with the craft cocktails and prices as well as the dinner choices quality of food and taste. More than anything we were both impressed and pleased when they offered me anything on the dessert menu to help celebrate my birthday. % we would return to this restaurant if we were back in Toronto.
The cocktails here are delicious and well made. The Pretty in Pink and Rosemary Holiday had a nice sweetness to it, while the Entertaining Thyme and the Raider of the Lost Grapefruit had a balanced bitterness to it. The food was ok and not very memorable. The Atlantic Cod was lacking flavour, however, their apps were quite nice, especially the tartare and the focaccia. Aside from the hostess, service was a bit lacking. Half of our table were offered coat check upon arrival, while the others werent provided that option. We had to flag our waiter down on numerous occasions to order rounds of drinks. Tuesday wasnt particularly busy for dinner, and the bar was doing last call at just before 10pm from what I can recall.
Great service, two of three meals were meh, but the third meal was excellent! Sadly, it was a special. Their regular menu is lackluster. Go on Mondays for cheap drinks! Wheelchair accessibility: Restaurant is wheelchair accessible
Great atmosphere, tasty cocktails and great food.
Great spot to enjoy an afternoon or evening cocktail. Service in the lounge can be a little spotty and food is pricey for what you get but the magic hour (tues-sat from 4-8pm) offers $8 cocktails which can t be beat.
I thought this place is gonna be expensive and not as good, because it looks like a TIFF canteen thats gonna be overpriced. But the food here is surprisingly tasty, very good atmosphere. Theres cheaper cocktail before 8pm which is amazing. We ordered Valentines Day special and it was really good. Amazing view by the window, you can see CN tower.
Love it at Luma
Went for drinks nice place to chill
The bar on the top floor is great pre movie drinks spot. The bar offers great drinking options with a special discounted menu on weekdays.
The food and drinks were fresh and well prepared, making it an enjoyable meal. Atlantic COD recommended. The lighting was a little dark and the music was too quiet.
A big thank you to Betty and Chef Michael for doing an incredible job with a private function we hosted. Betty asked lots of questions and organized a detailed executable plan. Chef Michael did a fantastic job with the menu and we received overwhelming positive feedback from every guest. Vegetarian options: Thank you for providing a tasty alternative Dietary restrictions: - Dairy intolerances -Nut allergies - No pork - Seafood allergies Parking: Fantastic versatile venue with lots of natural light
Happy hour is great at luma. Costumer service is really good.
Great service & amazing ambience.
It was a quick bite before a show, but will definitely come back
Beef tenderloin was excellent, however, a bit heavy on the salt.
Im always amazed by Luma. Its always a wonderful experience. They do such a great job
Foods are good! The restaurant is on the second floor of Tiff lighthouse. We are recommended with the entree special and it is a duck meal; much better than I expected! Environment is nice too.
Very good food, extensive wine & cocktail menu, & great service. I had the steelhead trout which was amazing, & sampled the tartar, dorade crudo, cremini mushrooms, garlic shrimp, & oysters, all of which were amazing. Very convenient access to the movie theater adjacent to the restaurant, & a nice view of the city as well.
Went for the happy hour at Luma The good: reasonably priced drinks and happy hour was till 8pm which is awesome The bad: drinks were cheap but lacked luster so kinda defeated the purpose. Also despite being in a high traffic area it was pretty empty and lacked ambiance. Not really a happening place We didnt eat food there just for fries. After the drinks we didnt have much faith in how good the food would be
This dish was fantastic!
HH every Tue to Sat with a pretty decent selection, their magic cocktails do have some magic fun
You definitely come here for the atmosphere. While Luma had good oysters, you can definitely find better ones at a more boutique place.
Awesome service
We went here for an after work gathering. The patio is nice and has a beautiful view of cn tower. I tried margaritas and old fashion drink and it was great. Friendly staff also.
Went for Summerlicious after Honda Indy and it was fantastic! Everybodys meal was a delightful experience and each dish had a lot of attention to detaill. The chef(s) really put a lot of thought in how each dish told a story. I loved the simple ingredients used to really have a tummy filled with love
great happy hour prices! Havent been here for food but the drinks are great, and they have a pretty good selection
The summerlicious menu was incredible!
Great magic hour deals during August with cocktails costing $8 from 4 pm to close. Clean venue. Nice servers. Drinks arrived a bit slowly.
Came on a Thursday for magic hour drinks and must say I was a bit underwhelmed. Cocktails were all sweet and odd (one was completely undrinkable and we sent it back). Not sure how the more classic ones on the rest of the menu are, but I won t be back to try. The truffle fries were pretty good though and decently priced Our server was super nice but service was a bit slow as soon as more people flowed in. Not her fault, but still didn t make for a great experience Atmosphere was decent. Nice room but no character I didn t do dinner here, and the food looked decent, but I would probably forgo Luma in favour of the many other great restaurants in the city with a bit more of a vibe - personal preference though!
Very beautiful atmosphere, extremely untrained and unprofessional staff. Not the high class experience TIFF is going for here. Not the worst, but not worth the aesthetic
Ive been a fan of dining at Luma for some time, so I was excited to try their updated menu featuring more seafood options. However, my recent visit left me somewhat underwhelmed. The host was welcoming and helpful, but our server appeared quite busy and distracted. There wasnt much in the way of friendly banter. I ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail, which I enjoyed, but my partner had to return his Old Fashioned as it was overly sweet and carbonated for some reason - guessing it was a creative spin but missed the mark in my opinion. I must commend them for their effort in trying something different, though. To start, we ordered focaccia, and as always, Lumas bread and desserts were delightful. However, the main courses were a bit disappointing. I went with the recommended green curry sea bream, and while the fish was well-cooked, there were far too many green beans on the plate. It felt like 70% beans and 30% fish, lacking creativity in flavour and in presentation. I believe for an Asian-inspired dish, incorporating more diverse Asian vegetables like bok choy could have elevated the experience. Another setback was the tenderloin, which came out nearly raw. We had to send it back for a proper medium-rare sear. The manager was gracious and checked in to ensure the kitchen got it right the second time. Unfortunately, even on the second attempt, it was still a bit rare and had a slightly crispy exterior *see photo*, leaving me questioning the chefs meat-cooking expertise. Considering the high-end price point and my previous positive experiences at Luma, this visit fell short of my expectations.
Over priced and very mediocre food. Service was good.
This was a cute spot downtown for date night (and it looked like a few business dinners and groups of friends also like this spot). We chose to split some appetizers and an entree and they were all good. The burrata was probably our favorite dish. The chocolate cake was actually ordered only because we were trying to kill time but ended up being really good.
Delicious!
Love love love the happy hour! $8-12 drinks and so far they re all very good. Perfect place to pre game on King Street and the atmosphere is great. They had a wonderful live jazz band last night!
Great location. Food was good. Service was great. Recommend as an event location.
Luma Restaurant is an iconic wedding venue that perfectly blends an intimate space for your guests, warm relaxed and sophisticated ambiance, incredible dining experience, and an outdoor patio with a breathtaking skyline view. I always love working at this venue because there is plenty of beautiful natural light and the bustling King Street below has so many stunning spaces to photograph in!
Fun, yummy and reliable, as O&B always is.
Wow! The best happy hour for fall in my opinion. Went there for magic hour and got some $8 margaritas which were delicious. Focaccia and fries were great. Skip the beef tartare though. Amazing ambiance and view.
The food was okay
we sat down at 4:15 and waited over an hour for starters which tasted good but not worth my time and energy. we waited well over two hours before the main course rolled out. the only positive is that the restaurant is beautiful and has the perfect location.
Great ambience and food. The dessert was incredible. A passion fruit masterpiece. Not much to say, but I did have a great time.
I ve been to Luma many times, so this past weekend did not disappoint. In a great location, always great vibe, romantic, GREAT views, and the staff is always above and beyond, accommodating, whatever you need. Highly recommend for a date night, friends night out, or any special occasion.
Went for December 31st dinner. My partner got the surf and turf which was amazing. Unfortunately my risotto was way undercooked and crunchy. I was disappointed. Please try the grilled octopus. I had one tiny bite and when I looked up, my partner ate everything because it was charred perfectly. It was a nice ambience. It was cloudy that day so couldnt get a clear view of the CN. I would give them another try in the future. Maybe it will be 5 stars then
Really nice ambience and interior. Was a little disappointed with the food portion sizes, especially the dessert.
Really good
I was in the restaurant for my birthday. Octopus salad was very good. For the entrée we ordered halibut cooked in tajine. It was not tasty at all. Plenty of red spicy sauce with pearl onions, hardly any fish and a weird taste. We kept ordering bread as you would not be able to swallow anything from this dish without adding a piece of bread. Service and ambience were good, but I wont come back again.
Awesome awesome awesome!!! Our night out at Luma was a night to remember! Great Atmosphere with right level of music ambiance to hear our conversation to wonderful staff who never let our glass be empty was most appreciated. Our server Jacob was on the ball and was very accommodating and made great recommendations with great choice of wine! Food was amazing! I included all the pictures of even my finished plates! Chef Danny and his team did a fabulous fabulous job! From Oyster, Roasted Beet Salad and Grilled Octopus wow Octopus amazing. Grilled Branzino with garnish and sauce was soooo good! Can t get it out of my head Grilled beef Striploin and marinated chicken was very impressive~ to top it off, i highly recommend the Chocolate Bar tart if you like sweets and chocolate! Overall great night to be with friends and we are thankful to Luma and their entire staff! Give yourselves a raise! Bravo
One of a decent restaurant in the city. You can enjoy your meals at a reasonable price. Not only their food quality, also their staff attitude well trained. Outside patio is really nice in the summer.
If you want to pay a lot and not get your money s worth try this place. They told us they ran out of bread and butter at 9 pm on a Friday night and the restaurant was almost empty so it didn t add up. The lamb was nice but you have a look at the picture. The portions were super small. My friend ordered the fish and it was small and filled with bones. My other friend asked for rare lamb and got medium rare. Quality to portion I think eating here is just a waste of your money.
Nice view with modern amenities. The food was average, the service was excellent.
Beautiful place and the salmon was AMAZING!!!
Came here to try the quality of the seafood as I heard this place is very popular and heard that this was the restaurant that suits filmed many episodes. All the food was very fresh however this is clearly a fine dining restaurant so be prepared to pay a premium. The service was great and they were very thorough to help us pick the most popular items. The ambiance is beautiful and is definitely a reason why people would come for happy hour after a long day at work. The winning dish was definitely the grilled octopus and I wish they had an entree sized portion. The salmons vadouvan sauce was rich however I was unfamiliar with it and probably wouldn t have ordered it as I m not a huge fan of curry. The salmon however was cooked well however it could ve been slightly more tender. The chicken breast was tender but the drum was a little dry. The Branzino I was definitely the winner entree with the uniqueness of jerusalem artichokes, swiss chard, pickled grapes, almonds, parsley brown butter. I was not familiar with this kind of fish it I La similar to cod and oh so tender. Would definitely come back and try some more of the apps.
Food was excellent.
Unfortunately my friend and I were not able to enjoy the food at Luma due to the absolutely poor and discriminatory service from their staff. We arrived on Saturday, May 7th at around 730pm. When we arrived to the hostess booth, there was no one there, and we just stood there waiting. We had several employees of the restaurant look at us both, and just proceeded to walk on by, and did not even acknowledge us. At first I thought it was because they were busy, however after a quick scan of the dining room/bar I noticed the restaurant was pretty dead - I would say it was only 20 to 30% full at best. After another 5 minutes of staff looking at us & walking right by, we were finally able to flag down someone who worked there, who was willing to acknowledge our presence. We mentioned we had reservations, and we were soon brought to our table. A few moments later, our server appeared. Our server was a 20 something year old young man with blonde hair. The server came over, and did not even acknowledge us, say hello or introduce himself. He was silent. He proceeded to just fill our cups with water, in complete silence which we found odd. After he finished filling up our glasses, we said thank you, and he simply just walked away, no eye contact, and not one word spoken. We found this odd. I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt, thinking perhaps he was just really tired, and was working a crazy shift. However, I again took a brief scan of the restaurant and to my point earlier, it was not busy at all. There was more empty seats in the restaurant than actual people dining. We proceeded to read the menu and decided on a few appetizers and drinks to start. We just sat there waiting for our server which seemed to be an eternity. We eventually got the attention of the hostess and asked if she could send our server over. The server came by eventually (same guy who filled our waters when we first sat down). Again, he didnt introduce himself or really say much. We proceeded to order the Octopus, a few drinks, and the Beef Sliders to start. We then mentioned we would be ordering main dishes after a few more minutes of going through the menu. The server then mentioned the Beef Sliders come in 3, and if we would want an additional slider. I said we were fine, and I declined. The server seemed to get really annoyed at my response, looked at me with a prolonged stare, which seemed almost aggressive in a way due to his silence and the duration of his gaze. After that he just walked away. At this point both my friend and I felt very uncomfortable, and just didnt want to be there. Both of us are visible minorities, and were the only folks of color who were dining at Luma that night. We do not like to just casually throw out claims of racism so lightly, however we both truly felt an air in the room from the moment we stepped into the restaurant, from the several staff staring at as us/walking by us when we arrived, to the cold/rude behavior of our server. I was wavering, whether to post my experience at all, especially since I didnt have a racial slur or a more blatant act of racism occur. However, I realized that racism is not just within the blatant or extremely visible acts, it also occurs within the minor things that people do ( or do not do), and the micro aggressions that are present. Additionally, I feel it is important to write this review, because as a person of color, I dont want other POCs to have their night ruined due to ignorant staff like we clearly had at Luma. Im not saying Luma as a whole is a racist establishment, however their staff clearly need some Anti-Racism training. Luckily, our night was not ruined. We informed the staff that we would be cancelling our order, and would no longer be dining with them that evening. We went to another Restaurant on King street which treated us just fine, where we spent $300+ on dinner/drinks. If youre a Visible Minority, I would not recommend This restaurant due to DISCRIMINATORY PRACTICES. Spend your money somewhere else!
Sophisticated, modern decor. Service is impeccable. The food is very good but not great, and the portions are large. We stared with a caprese salad and grilled octopus.
Great place to experience with friends. The food is good, and the service is great.
Bright and spacious location with a view of the CN tower! Very delicious plates. They stole my heart from the warm yummy bread served with a salted honey butter, to the octopus appetizer warm salad and the branzino fillet main dish. Just wish the server was a bit more knowledgeable in describing the dishes - the menu is not too large, so it shouldn t be too hard. :) Nevertheless, we will be back to try their famous truffle fries.
Luma wasnt bad, per se, but it certainly didnt live up to the hype. The dishes were very hit and miss. The risotto was plain boring, the salmon was decent but not spectacular, but the fillet was excellent.
Good food
Very attentive service.
Company event.
We expected for much more for that money. The place looks really great and the service is outstanding. Nevertheless the food was average. We ordered 4 different dishes and 2 cocktails. Only one dish and one cocktail deserve 4 stars. All the rest were below average. Food
Unfortunately I forget the name of what I ordered but I had THE best fish there today. Everything was awesome even down to the individual vegetables and sauces I almost wanted to ask the waiter if I could ask the chef how he cooked each part Will definitly go back again! Also really good cocktails.
Stunning views, the friendliest staff, great service from Camilla our server. Good food. Three issues: steak well done instead of rare, sent back to be redone, threw the rhythm of group eating off. Second time perfect. Huge error on bill: charged for 3 bottles of champagne instead of 3 glasses. Ahem. Then on entry told their POS not working for credit - debit. Took out cash at ATM in TIFF lobby. Asked at end if working now, it was. Mixed.
Over the weekend, we visited Luma. Their outdoor terrace is great to enjoy dinner with a city view. The servers were friendly and accommodating. The food was flavorful with well balanced ingredients. Also, they have gluten free options. Definitely recommending this place.
Very beatiful and fancy/modern place where to enjoy the evening. Food was delicious and pretty unique in the way has been cooked and presented. The staff was professional, kind and friendly at the same time. I definitely raccomand it.
What a great experience here at luma. From the bartender Maddy to the manager Laura. Felt welcomed from the moment I walked in.. check this place out...in the TIFF building....WOW FOR SURE
Camilla was a fantastic server, helpful and customer service oriented. She made us feel welcome. Easy to get a patio table Sat evening. Food was good, although the tuna sashimi was a bit off, so we returned it. It was not charged but nothing was comp ed, not even a coffee. Would return.
Went here for a corporate event and it was phenomenal. Great wait staff, delicious menu, spacious, great views, and neat venue. Definitely a wonderful place to reserve for groups!
Don t waste your money. This was amateur at best. If not for the location the entire night would have been a waste. A group of 6 of us went to Summerlicious yesterday. We have been enjoying this tradition both in the summer and winter since 2013. About our experience last night. Firstly, the food was cold and not what was promised. Secondly, the waiter was HORRIBLE! I wish I could give you his name but he didn t introduce himself to us. The ceviche was fishy and one of our guests didn t touch it at all, you would think he would have picked up on it - but he was oblivious. The meals came out randomly and weren t served at the same time. The so called seared calamari was limp and cold and came across more steamed than anything else. The fregola was overcooked and cold and everything lacked salt and flavour. We waited forever for sub par dessert even though the restaurant was basically empty and never once did our waiter think to ask us if we wanted coffee or tea. Funny enough, I was at Michael s on Simcoe two days earlier and it was the best experience ever. Highly recommend you go there instead of Luma. O&B - we expect much more from you! Very disappointed and will never be coming back to Luma!
I did Summerlicious. Staff was friendly and helpful. The ambiance was nice. For the price paid, food and drinks were underwhelming. My drink was ok. Beware, potted shrimp is like 5 or 6 potato chips and some dip. Really small portions and nothing positive or memorable to say about the taste of any of the dishes ordered. Your really are just paying food presentation and that is it. I prefer not posting negative reviews, without providing some things that would have improved my experience. Portions especially on the ingredients that cost nothing like chips should be increased. Probably a reformulation of the recipes to make the food more tasty would help as well and bring people back.
Only getting 2/5 because atmosphere and service was decent. The food was an absolute joke. Everything tasted like a kid trying to cook for the first time. Not sure if it was because we chose a summerlicious menu or if the chef was out to lunch. The food was bland and presentation was mediocre at best. I think they used canned food in all 3 courses.
Went here for summerlicious. Its a bit on the pricy side, but the food is really good. No flops or duds among any of the things our party ordered (among 5 of us we got almost everything on the summerlicious menu). Definitely recommend.
Beautiful atmosphere and food. I had the steak and it was perfectly cooked.
Underwhelming food and cocktails. I was disappointed in this place. Service wasnt great either.
Went for Summerlicious. Ordered Beef skewers it was excellent. Service was excellent. Very nice atmosphere
Better than I expected, as it was one of the few places that actually had last minute reservations available during TIFF. I really enjoyed the Luma Caesar salad and the octopus of the dishes that I ordered.
The bread and butter at the beginning was the only thing worth eating.
I had a truly awful experience at Luma last Saturday. Our waiter was shockingly rude and condescending when we said wed only be ordering drinks (at 9pm). After our drinks arrived, we were presented with the cheque not 30 seconds later. Clearly he was trying to get rid of us and decided that we were not to order anything else. I am appalled that such service is tolerated. This is not to mention the 10+ minutes it took to be seated in a half-full (at best) restaurant with a reservation and no line, as well as the 20 minutes it took for anyone to bother approaching our table once we did eventually get seated. The drinks were okay, but theyre certainly not the part of the night Ill be telling people about. As a fun bonus, we were asked to move tables to one that was not set with plates and cutlery. In the time it took us to finish our drinks, another group was placed at our initial table, ordered a round of drinks, and left without even finishing them. It seemed they got hit with the instant-cheque move as well. Classy.
A great place for date nights, service was pretty fast and the salmon and couscous dinner was very tasty. Cocktails were very average and watered down but the wine selection is great.
Had dinner at Luma during the height of TIFF and evening of Pearl Jam at Scotia Bank Arena. Suffice to say that section of town was electric and very busy. Luma service was as fine as the food. Attentive without being overbearing and every attempt made to make our experience a memorable one. Oysters, Salmon, Cornish Hen and Fungi Truffle Pasta were all delicious and would recommend. Special thanks to new GM Chris who made us feel like special guests in the centre of all the evenings action. Would go back in a heartbeat.
Points only for the vibe. Lots of potential but they arnt there yet.Food lacked flavour and needed an extra kick. Venue and atmosphere is great but food was disappointing.
Good food limited selection but tasty.
Great view of the street! Friendly service and tasty food!
Nice setting and service. Food was great--good size steak too.
seems understaffed
I was there on a Wednesday night so it wasnt busy, the restaurant is spacious and modern. Candle sticks on the table which I loved. I had the beef tartare, it wasnt the traditional French tartare but more of a fusion and it was really good but a bit over priced for the size. Food
The best place in the town to enjoy seafood and canadian french infused dishes sitting on the lap of king street and the beautiful view of CN Tower. Big fan of how they do their lobster, salmon and atlantic cod paired with their wines and magic hour cocktails. Kudos to the service and the kitchen team to make every visit worthwhile! Dietary restrictions: Happy to accommodate any dietary requests.
Workers dont allow residents (like myself) to use the Festival Tower entrance. Well I wasnt allowed anyways and was told to leave. Pretty rude workers.
Took our family here for dinner. The restaurant was beautiful, service was excellent. Food was super flavourful, desserts extra delecious. Very lovely time, would definitely recommend.
We wanted to try a new seafood restaurant, and this came up on open table. The seafood was delicious and very creative. But the dish I came for (lobster) was already sold out by 8.30pm which seems early for a restaurant that is open late. They gave us a range of free food to try as a makegood which was excellent so silver lining. Id go back but we went on a quiet night so they closed early and we watched them put tables away around us as we ate. The staff and food were lovely but definitely not a place for vibes...
A few points to make here. Restaurant was empty but only available reservation online was at 9pm 1. Got served an old fashioned (smoked one was not available) on the rocks with literally crushed ice. 2. Tuna tartar was very little chopped tuna (finely chopped) on top of guacamole. The ratio was off 3. The sliders - the bun almost looked store bought and ice berg lettuce. 4. Oysters were excellent, but hard to mess up live malpeque oysters . 5. Had to ask for drinks 3 times before receiving them They could not make a monte cristo as they were short on Kaulua and didn t have whipped cream. Their tap didn t work, so no draught beer. You have to ask yourself; why would you eat here if you have much better choices out there for far better value.
Classy, yet cheap cocktails during their happy hour. My fave drink on the planet is actually their High Park. A tad sweet, but great smoky hickory overtones. And $6 from 4-9 pm. A no-brainer.
Great food.. Wonderful service
Service: On the slow side, server seemed to lack experience and was not on the ball. Did not create rapport. Could tell he was trying and maybe was new. Ambience: Not my style. Big open space, quite empty, loud music didn t match, too bright. Food: Shockingly bad. Started with oysters which were fine. Partner has kale Caesar salad which was underdressed and bland. Croutons were stale white bread with no seasoning. Next were polenta fries - they were good. Mains were the whole grilled octopus - good texture but overwhelming char taste and the rest of the dish lacked seasoning and flavour. Also the beef short rib was an abomination. First of all, it wasn t short rib, it was chuck roast or similar. No bone, dry and bland. They oddly served it in a broth which only dried it out further. No spoon btw for the broth. The accompanying veggies in the dish were undercooked and under seasoned. Just a total mess. Whoever tried this and said yes, that s what we should serve for Winterlicious to intro people to our restaurant should be fired. I ate one bite. Dessert: average. The boudino was not bad, but had a strong spicy kick not mentioned in the menu which I can see turning some people off. The cobbler was bland lol everything else and poorly textured. Odd choice. Overall menu lacked a coherent theme, all food lacked seasoning and suffered from poor execution. I did tell our server my thoughts throughout the meal. He offered to replace dishes (I declined). I will not return nor will I recommend. This is the second O&B restaurant that has let me down.
Been here multiple times, always had pinnacle quality experiences for both taste and service.
Great winterlicious experience. Friendly staff and great food.
Great atmosphere great service and delicious food
Cocktails are amazing here. Even the food is pretty good
Good place to hang out with friends and colleagues!!!
Great happy hour!
The fish n chips are to die for, homemade tartar sauce, could eat is as a spread!
Tasty lunch in a very open, well lit setting.
Nice view from the window table. Fish and chip is pretty large portion. The cod is super tasty and soft
Always a good time.
