A neighbourhood cafe, restaurant and bar
The food was so fresh and flavorful. The sourdough bread was 😍😍😍😍My hubby and I shared the Niçoise salad and the Mediterranean platter. I thought the salad was going to be an actual fresh tuna steak based on the price of $27 but I still really enjoyed it. Will be back to try more menu items
We went to Manita Ossington for a brunch. It's a very nice, bright, and inviting neighborhood cafe/restaurant/bar. The menu has a good variety of options to choose from. I ordered the Manita Breakfast (smoke salmon, soft egg, capers, red onion, tomatoes, dill, and griddled bread) and a cappuccino. The food was nicely plated, and the ingredients were fresh. I personally enjoyed the breakfast, so I highly recommend giving it a try!
I really like the atmosphere at the place, especially the outdoor patio that looks out to the busy street of Ossington. There wasn’t a huge selection of food options here, the food was good and it wasn’t bad. But it wasn’t anything special and outstanding. They don’t specialize in one cuisine. The Mediterranean platter seemed like an appetizer platter not a main dish. The lemon spaghetti was very good, but the spaghetti pieces were a little too thick and tough.
Cozy little restaurant with a nice patio, serving brunch and other lunch/dinner dishes, make this a versatile stop to dine during all times of the day. Food is very well made as we sampled some brunch, sandwiches, and entree's. Inside dining space is limited, so larger parties is a bit hard to accommodate, make reservations! I give them 8.5/10!
Is this the best burger in the city? Idk but it’s totally up there. Vibe late on a fri was great and we just walked in no reso. Drinks were yummy and friendly staff. Unfortunately the anchovy crostini was just bread with 3pm of butter and an anchovy which was far too much butter. Japanese sweet potato was yummy, but tbh I couldn’t get over the butter on the crostini. Burger came first which was strange so had the apps last?? Anyways I’d totally come back and try the rest of menu. Btw came for lunch and had the Panzanella salad which was unreal.
Dined in on a Friday afternoon. My group made reservations so no wait. Food was delicious and service was friendly. I ordered the Manita Breakfast, the portion was good for the price and tasted very fresh. The downside was the patio. The metal chairs were really uncomfortable.
It was my second time there, which was quite different. Make sure you have reservations to prior to coming to avoid 45 min waiting as it gets busy. Menu looks different and got pancake and my friend got another dish. It was simple 2 pancakes stacked on top which butter and syrup, it would be better which some toppings but there no option given nor the server offered. Portion was okay for the price of the food. Outdoor patio is great but tables are little too close to each others, you could hear the conversation from the other table. chairs are not that comfortable for someone who is little healthy. First time it was quite different, i loved the restaurant in 2023, came to visit second time but couldn’t secure our spot. After today i might not prefer to drive 30 mins to downtown for the spot.
The food and aesthetic was on point but I’m a little disappointed with the service. Our waitress had a stank face the entire time, and just looked so annoyed with our existence. We were nothing but nice and friendly to her but she looked so bothered to be there and just kinda ruined the mood. I work customer service and know people can have bad days, but when we’re a paying customer we expect to be treated with a little bit of respect and kindness at the bare minimum.
as of 2024 manita burger this is my favourite burger in toronto i went at least once per month dining here genuinely brings so much joy get their house made orange juice too Food : 5/5 |
Hey gang, I dealt with the owner Colin Tooker, who eventually replaced my burger with extra fries, with extra onion/pickles on the burger, & on the side, with a bottle of coke THE FOOD WAS SO AWESOME The location @ Yonge is very different from Ossington Im still upset how the Ossington restaurant handled my complaint Zachary Quinto must of been super hungry, maybe he should go to the Yonge location instead
Food was good atmosphere is cute (what you would expect on Ossington) but was taken aback by the server. She could not have cared if we lived or died.
Wonderful restaurant, tasty food, a bit too pricy.
Very nice vegi burger!
We couldnt wait to go to Manitas for dinner. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment. It was good, but nothing more. The plate of chicken skewers was very disappointing, they were really tiny. The piri piri chicken, although excellent, was $40. In addition, the service left something to be desired: the employees seemed to be chatting together (the restaurant was empty, despite the weekend evening we went). Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place.
Ate here twice and the burger was mid af but I thought Id give it a second chance, got super sick from the chicken scures. Avoid.
Everything about this place is the best! I absolutely love the tall beautiful model like manager who walks around with the iPad! She s so kind and patient. The food is top tier and all the employees seem to really love their job! Favourite brunch/lunch in Toronto!
How they managed staffs & time is a joke. We put our name down for a table for 2 for 45mins wait. Got a text msg for 1 hour wait. 55 mins close to the wait time, I called them when is our next turn and the host told me there is no table available and their reservations are booked throughout the day. If there s anything available, they will msg me. Then I told her they should at least let their customer know there was no table so we didn t have to wait. Then she goes there is still 6 mins until your wait time is over and it s not guaranteed - so this is your way to talk to someone who waited for almost 1hr to get a table? Will she get me a table in 6 mins? If you do not see a way to get a table for walk-ins, at least say it so no one has to waste their time and they could have gone to another restaurant. The way she worded it sounds like we would have to be on our phone all day, waiting for their texts to get a table. If there is 0 start, I would rate this experience and customer service provided to customers. Such a joke
The food and service was great
Cozy little spot on Ossington. Great for a quick lunch visit, highly recommend the club sandwich and the coffee! Definitely going to stop by to try more of the menu. There is street parking all around, it can be a bit tricky to find a spot but there is also a Green P nearby.
Came here a few months ago with a friend and we were seated on the stools by the entrance. Usually enjoy spots along Ossington, but this was a bit of a let down. We felt like we were forgotten; we had to stand up and flag down a server after sitting for 30 minutes twiddling our thumbs. We both ordered steak frites, which were extremely lacklustre for $49 a pop. Cherry on top, it took about 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food to arrive. I ve never walked out of a restaurant before, but this was about to be the first time. Alas, we committed because we needed to be somewhere after and wouldn t have time to wait anywhere else. Overall, not worth your time, money, or stomach s real estate. Plenty of better options along the street.
Service was good but the burger is soooo overpriced and tasted like nothing spectacular.
The perfect fries. I come here whenever I m craving fries and always get the same thing: the turkey club, salad and a glass of chilled bubbly. The coolest staff group. Club sandwich is solid, love the patio as well. You get to people watch while you re eating. They also do half wine Wednesdays. Get the orange wine if you can
The coffee was delicious and the food was just okay. The servers were friendly however there was almost zero service. My friend and I reserved a table and we still had to wait for ten twenty ish minutes when we arrived.
Small portions, uninspired flavours. Took my in laws here this evening after hearing rave reviews about it for weeks. Don t go here, overpriced and underwhelming.
Took my parents here for dinner and was unfortunately let down. Their burgers were too rare after being advertised as medium rare and they couldn t eat them and my shrimp were bland and over priced. I feel let down with my experience and won t be back.
I feel ripped off. I paid $29 for a basic burger that any of the incredible burger stands in this city could easily outshine for a fraction of the cost. I wish I could chalk this up to my own preferences, but it wasn t just me. The other dishes at our table were subpar, small, and poorly presented. Normally, I don t mind about the plating, but at this price point, it should at least look appealing. This place seems to have ridden on the wave of a few good reviews, but the reality falls short. I d still be disappointed even if the prices were lower, but their premium rates suggest phenomenal food, and that s not what we got. I understand that prices are high right now, but I know plenty of places that still deliver amazing food at this price or less. Food is bad, service is passable, and the price was $250 for 5 people (1 drink per person). You be the judge.
Food was decent, small plates. Great location. Small tables.
Food was phenomenal. Great space for a cute dinner date or a nice lunch. Would recommend !
we got the manita burger and mushroom croque madame - both were great. probably the best fries i ve had in a long time
One of the nicest lunch spots in Toronto with a delicious menu.
Waitress said 30 min wait time and we waited for 40 min (no text no call, there were at least 4 empty tables inside). We walked in to check our spot and was greeted with this waitress with a big attitude. She was supposed to bring us to our table, instead she walked straight without a word or a hello. She led us in the middle of the restaurant and we didn t even know where to sit down .. Told us if you guys want to avoid wait time, try to make a reservation next time with such a rude tone ..maybe get another job since you clearly hate being in the service industry. food was mid as well.
Ive been twice. Food is average. Service average.
Manita is really a gem , if you havent been you need to go, I have been for brunch & dinner . The service is always top notch , the food is fresh & delicious and the atmosphere is relaxing . I cannot wait for their second location to open up.
Long wait which was to be expected since we came during Ossfest. Seemed to bother my friends but I didnt mind - small space and busy weekend! Everyone loved their food, no issues there, though I found the falafel not really to my liking. Service was cold, not involved, seemed like the server had no interest in being there. Im noticing a common theme of servers doing less than the bare minimum in Toronto, and as a server myself its quite frustrating given how there is constant conversation about tipping culture. We all tipped according to the service we received, or didnt receive, rather. Id encourage the team here to be warmer and try to connect with their tables since there arent that many in the restaurant itself. Maybe offer a recommendation, or if a table inquires about what kind of oysters you are serving that day you could provide a tasting note or two. And never approach a table and simply say what can I get for you? without even a hello! I really hate tipping less than 15% but Im just not going to reward poor and unfriendly service any longer. Shame that all the restaurants in Toronto with reputations for spectacular food, also have a reputation for bad service staff since theres many who would gladly take these positions and make an unforgettable experience for the clientele. Probably wont be back any time soon as a result, since the prices are quite high per dish and the service does not match that price point at this time, in my opinion.
OUTRAGEOUSLY DELICIOUS!!! Earlier in the day we stopped at the Nile Coffee Club (also a must stop, the coffee is bar none the best) and the owner recommended Manita to us for lunch! I had the Marmalade Oxtail and it was just a beautiful gastronomic experience! Highly recommend!
Small casual spot for brunch. The coffee was 10/10. We had the GF avocado toast with an egg, simple but delicious. Nice vibey spot to sit outside and people watch on Ossington. Dietary restrictions: GF bread available
For a tasty, heavier dish, get the oxtail marmalade dish! Its heavenly!
I dont get it. The food is mediocre, and takes forever to arrive (3 different visits), and the prices are out of touch with the quality of food. I will pass from now on, 3 times in a row of same experience.
Great place to go out to eat. My breakfast (the mushroom meal) was delicious. Very great atmosphere.
Food tastiness varies from good to excellent -- but their service and attention to customers is trash. Servers need re-training by the people who run Bar Vendetta or Bar Sugo or Burdock or pretty much any wine bar in Toronto. Hospitality means much more than dropping off food and drinks.
I had shakshuka with friends. Good brunch place though it is a bit loud.
The sweet Oxtail Marmalade is very good! Its just that its a bit more expensive per person. There are a lot of people in this store, so be sure to make a reservation. If you want to walk-in, the waiting time may be a bit long.
patio+vibes+good food+cocktails
Not sure why the bad service reviews from so many but had a great experience our first time here. We arrived really early and prepared to wait until our designated time on the patio for our reservation (definitely make one or youre asking for disappointment) with our pup; but the team was nice enough to figure out a table for us outside vs waiting for the table assigned to us that was still occupied. Service was on point whether it was filling water, taking orders, or getting me a new beer. Very nice, fast, accommodating. Food was amazing. For some reason I had this place bookmarked for their burger and it was reallyyyyy good. Perfectly cooked and a must have with their well seasoned fries. Also ordered the shakshuka which definitely blew my mind. Great tomato freshness with a fresh egg and lots of spice, seasonings and herbiness served with super crispy slices of baguette. Would definitely be back. Cheers
Don t understand the hype on this restaurant. Food is nothing special. Server kept trying to take away one plate that still is half full without asking if it s okay to take away. Washroom is a little gross. Please wash that tiny fabric cover hanging at the door. And the separate hot and cold water knobs don t make sense. For your food prices, please do better.
When for lunch for the first time. Food was good and portions were standard size. We had a club sandwich, Burger and the prosciutto sandwich. We had reservations for 1245 on the patio and we were seated on time. We got our food within 20 minutes and we re given 15 minutes to eat and we re told that they needed the table by 130. When we made reservations nowhere did it state that you had 45 minutes. it just was a very rushed lunch took away from the enjoyment. If I do return and this happens, I will ask to speak to the manager.
My food was not well prepared and the servers were very rude
Childish and unwarranted from a restaurant that has a mediocre rating and numerous 1 star reviews.
Had a wonderful lunch!! I highly recommend this restaurant.
if you are into thin crispy fries they did not disappoint. the shakshuka was amazing as well. was not too salty or bland, it was just right. we also got prosciutto and burrata !! it was french kiss haha. totally recommend if you are a sandwhich lover and is looking for a fancy breakfast/ brunch date with someone :)))
My friend and I came here for lunch around 2pm on Sunday. When we walked in, there were no spaces so they put us on a wait list, indicating it would be approx. 30-45 mins. We waited for over 1 h with no text and decided to head back to see what the holdup was. When we arrived, we were shocked to see four empty tables inside and three outside. The server told us we would have to sit at the window because all of the tables were reserved. Even though it was 3:15 at that point and the kitchen closes at 4. We were decidedly unhappy, and it took a while to even bring our menus. Only one table ended up getting taken out of the four that were apparently reserved. Two women also walked in after us and were seated at one of the reserved tables right away, even though they didn t have a reservation. I assume they were regulars based on how friendly the hostess was with them, while she was unpleasant and verging on bitter towards us. Our original server did not once ask how our food was, and I had to ask for the bill after 30 mins of sitting around and waiting. The only redeeming thing was that the fries were great, and the burger was quite good. But not worth it for the dismal service we received. There are many places in Toronto with better food, and certainly better service.
Great service and food, quaint & cozy ambience
Great spot on ossington with a nice patio that gets tons of sun during the afternoon! Highly recommend the burger, salad, and the jam and cheese crostini (i forget the actual name)
They have great Palestinian-style falafel and shakshuka!! Must try
Second time visiting, I can see why they re super busy. The oxtail marmalade is delicious. Service is very very slow. Decent price for decent portion, defo worth the wait.
It is a small place, and the vibe of the place is very warm, the customer service is very efficient and friendly. I ordered a capuchibi and it was very good, and I decided to order the smoke salmon dish and it was very fresh and delicious My friend ordered the burger that many people say is one of the best burgers in Toronto and it was very delicious.
Food was very good (especially enjoyed the fries). I did find the prices pretty high and the tables small but I would go back!
Amazing fries!! Service is great! Avocado smash is very good but a tad too much lemon juice. Only advice is, tables should be timed during peak times, and chairs (barstools included) are SUPER uncomfortable
Good lil spot. Came for breakfast and crushed 2 mimosas and some food. Vibes are great and decor is thoughtful, place is small though so try to keep groups to 5 or less Food : 5/5
I suggested trying Manita after seeing it pop up a bunch as well as one of my favourite chefs has raved about it. Once getting their for our reservation it took a while for the server to come around and ask us for drinks. This place is quite small and no one was seated on the patio, so unsure why it was quite slow. Drinks were good, we ordered 2 apps and 1 main to share between the two of us. The apps did come quickly and they were okay. nothing amazing but still tasty. We then proceeded to wait for what was about 45 min to not get our main. Another party was seated next to us, a while after us, and then was served their food before us. About 20 min later the server proceeded to let us know that they made a mistake and gave our main to the table next to us. Regardless of this, they offered we could re-order but would take 30 more min and they had another reservation coming so we would need to move tables. We just said dont even bother and we would get the cheque. He brought us a complimentary drink (which I could not have since I was driving), which then thinking he would comp some of our bill he did not... Overall was super disappointed with our experience. The vibe seemed great when we first got there and I was super excited about the menu choices, but the service is what really put a bad taste in my mouth. For such a small place you would think the service would be top notch compared to a larger restaurant.
Had the turkey club sandwich that came with fries and it was perfect! I can t wait to go back and try their Mediterranean plate and carrot cake. Only criticism is that they use A LOT of OJ in their mimosas. The OJ is wonderful but I wish I had more Prosecco in the mimosa. Food
Nice vibe, but 19$ for a bacon McMuffin with no side is too much. Same for the plain pancakes. Too pricey for what you get. However, service was good and the place is cute.
Fantastic sharing plates. We did oysters, mushroom burrata, oxtail, mussels/frites, sardines and beers. For 3 people, this was a quality eating experience; all the boxes ticked for the palate, mouth and belly. The only downside was the 90 minute limit we had to experience it all. That being said, the service was friendly and accommodating (especially since the original reso was only for 2). Thank you!
A cute little spot, albeit a little cramped. Not great for larger groups. Yummy cocktails with good food. We tried the steak, Mediterranean plate, trout dip, and the ham croquettes. Croquettes were hot and crispy, very delicious. Only one per order. The trout dip was a good portion size and well seasoned. The Mediterranean plate came with a great variety of dips and pickled veggies, I wish it came with more bread, or maybe even pita seems more fitting. The steak was cooked very well, slightly chewy but with a flavourful sauce. The fries that came with the steak were also delicious, maybe my favourite eats the whole night. The cocktails were also yummy and well balanced. It s certainly a pricy place with the servings or food being on the smaller size. But a nice spot to stop for a drink and some snacks with friends.
I was very excited to try Manita after hearing rave reviews and it sure did not disappoint! We tried the zucchini fritti and both the veggie and Manita burger. The zucchini fritti was delicious dusted with honey. The best parts were the scattered crispy batter pieces. The veggie burger was probably one of the best in the city! The mushroom patty was savoury and an umami bomb, perfectly dressed with cheddar, crisp lettuce, onion and pickles. The Manita burger was seasoned and cooked to perfection. My only criticism would be the accompanying fries that were soggy. In addition, I would like to extend my gratitude to the staff - as a new mom I was ~1/2 hour late for our reservation. They were so kind in accommodating us despite it being a very busy Friday evening.
Wasn t a big fan of the pappardelle but the oxtail marmalade and japanese sweet potato were everythinggg
The vibe is cute, and the servers are friendly. Aside from that, I don t understand the hype around Manita. My friends and I went for brunch the other day and the food was very mid. One thing to note is that their pancakes are not a meal. It s more of an appetizer size with one or 2 thin pieces. For $19, I would rather get something else. We also got the oxtail, croque madame, the mushroom croque madame, turkey club, and the soppressata sandwich. Everything was very underwhelming for the price of each dish. Again, service was friendly, but they were slow. Food took 40-45minutes, getting our bill took another 25-30minutes. I think Manita would be a cute sipping spot to go to if you re not hungry. Otherwise, I don t think I ll be back again.
Love the ambience and the food were amazing! Id say reasonable value for the sumptuous treat. Id go back here, certainly!
Food was great. Our server was also great. Unfortunately the hostess was super rude - weirdly I have come to expect this little *quirk* from Manita after dining here multiple times over the last two years. It really puts a damper on an experience that would have been great otherwise. Managers should focus on hiring hostesses who actually like working in hospitality, for the good of the restaurant.
If only this wasn t the first time this happened, but it was the 4th, 5th or maybe more. When you consider yourself a local at a restaurant and still receive the same horrible service from every single person who works at an establishment, you learn that it s coming from the top down. My final straw with their entitled service was when one of their managers messaged me after an afternoon on the patio where I accidentally forgot a blanket. I quickly responded to apologize and said I would be in to pick it up within a few hours (this was all within the same day) to my surprise by the time I arrived the manager, the same one that told me I forgot it had mysteriously lost it and said that it was no longer to be found. It s one thing to leave an item at a restaurant, forget about It and go back a week later to find out it is no longer there. In this scenario the manager personally knew me and went out of their way to message me and let me know it had been left behind to then go and toss it away. On top of the countless rude encounters I have had with their staff, this one had be left in utter shock. It s so unfortunate that a place with great food, and a great location is run by some of the most selfish, entitled people in the service industry.
Burger was tasty, liked the olives and fries. Nice vibe in general for a cozy little place in Ossington , worth the try. Croque Madame was so great.
Cute restaurant with a great menu but the service is super off putting
The burger was awesome. The service...was not. There is a vibe across a lot of restaurants on Ossington where the staff have an air of its your privilege to be there and not their responsibility to provide you with service that aligns with their price points. I had to prompt our server to speak when she approached. No lie. She stood there in silence. There was maybe three tables occupied inside and every dish took very long. This didnt bother me too much since I was in deep catching up with a friend, but we noticed the staff just hanging out at the bar as if this was just a social setting for them. The burger was great. Service needs a ton of work.
A very cozy place to dine in. Far better than the franchises for medium budget restaurants. Food : 4/5
Food and vibe is great. Cozy, calm and charming. If you want a low key evening to catch up with a friend or go on a date it s perfect. Food is great the bread! Get the bread.
Food and service will never disappoint you, haven t tried drinks yet. Highly recommend the mediterran plate, salmon plate, any sandwich they have on the menu. Recommended dishes Mediterranean Platter
Order: Breakfast Sandwich The aioli, hot sauce, and ketchup combo really sealed it together. Flavour town. Fried egg, cheddar cheese, braised kale and house made English muffin was kinda perfect. Food : 4/5
The perfect place for the Influencers of Ossington to avoid the poors. Case in point: a $22 ham & cheese sandwich
My new favourite llunch joint! These fries and toast with ox tail was super good ! Couldn t get enough and ordered extra! Coming to try that burger next
Falafel sandwich was pretty good. The breakfast sandwich wasn t so great, the kale makes the sandwich taste bitter and just not great.
Excellent food and service. I got the vegetarian burger and my partner got the regular burger. Both were amazing, and arrived very quickly after ordering. Parking: We parked at the parking lot around the corner. Only a couple minute walk at most.
Went here on a Wednesday around 12:45 pm for lunch with my 10 month old baby and husband. We were wary about bringing a baby to the Ossington strip because I find some places aren t that kid-friendly, but immediately after inquiring about a table the staff went above and beyond to ensure we felt comfortable there amongst the rest of the lunch crowd (they even had a high chair.) They did the same for another couple who came in a bit later. As for the food, it was also great. Amazing fries! The falafel sandwich was a great portion and very tasty. Definitely not inexpensive but fair value for money in my opinion considering inflation lately and the great service.
$17 for an english muffin breakfast sandwich with no side...not worth it
Went to dinner here for my birthday & it was amazing! The evening menu allows you to try either a main entree or to have many small plates. The house fries are a classic & the oeufs durs mayonnaise were a pleasant surprise. Also, tried here for breakfast & it was equally great. I had the veggie croque madame & found it to be a great option for vegetarians who want a filling & hearty breakfast.
Quality food, well presented in a small but cosy spot with nice ambience. Service was pro. It always seems to be busy he no matter what the time is so be prepared to make a reservation or wait a bit.
The service was more than lacking - no one greeted us when we arrived or offered us drinks, once served drinks were left empty for so long and no one came up to us, we had to flag our server. Food was just ok - I found it to be really salty. There are many other places on Ossington that are more enjoyable.
Been going here since it opened, everything on the menu is great. Consistency and service is 10/10
Slow servicing and overpriced english muffins for what you get compared to other higher-priced brunch spots
Had the Croque Madame with a glass of Stella Cab Sav from California. Excellent, I mean really good. Now waiting for the carrot cake. Service again first class and friendly.
Popped in based on recommendation. Really yummy brunch. We had the yogurt and granola and a breakfast sandwich. Both were great.
Food was good, but the service was terrible. The worst I ve had in years. Wouldn t come back. The table beside us left after waiting over 15 minutes for someone to come to the table after they were seated. We should have done the same. It was distractingly bad.
Fantastic food! Croquet madame was delicious!
Most ridiculously priced average clubhouse
Loved the Mediterranean platter, the salted cod crostini, and the meatballs. Veggie burger and spicy rigatoni were okay. Fries were absurdly salty and the carbonara only tasted like lemon. And, it was cold. Not a warm dish that lost heat, but actually cold. ??? Espresso martinis were lacking flavour. Service was laughable. Our server was nice but basically MIA. Our cocktails took 20-30 minutes. A water refill was entirely forgotten. Nobody asked us how our meals were when we started eating. One of these blips would be fine, but this is clearly the general m.o. - and this wasnt a short-staff issue.
The Manita burger itself was solid. Wouldve gave 5 stars but had issues with getting seating. Ended up waiting over an hour despite signing up for text alert and not recieving a text. The host wasnt sure why we didnt recieve a notification but after a few minutes we were given seats. Would recommend getting reservations instead of dropping in for this place.
Loved the staff behind this place, and Oxtail Marmalade is to die for! Make sure to come with plenty of time to enjoy the restaurant.
I ve had the pleasure of dining at Manita a handful of times and it has quickly become a favourite of mine! The food is just top notch. The burger, smoked salmon plate and oxtail marmalade are standouts for me. The fries are insanely good. The prices are up there but you can really taste the quality of the ingredients and the love put into preparing each dish. Service is solid as well. Would recommend coming on a weekday or making a reso as the wait times can get pretty crazy.
Manita is one of my favorite restaurant on Ossington st! I love the variety offered in their menu. The place has a bustling yet cozy vibe. I have been here 3 times already and will be returning soon! Parking: This restaurant is close to a Green P parking lot and on-street parking is also available.
Manita was truly exceptional in their service. We went there after my cousins wedding and they were extremely happy to have hosted us. The owners both took special care of us and had great service with a wonderful smile on everyones face. The wines are great. Food options might be limited based on the time of the day. Perfect ambience and all positive energy in this place!!
I decided to try Manita s after hearing so much about it on social media, but I was a little disappointed. The atmosphere was great, I really liked the cozy feel, however the food was just okay. We started with the smoked trout dip, and had the meatballs and braised oxtail for our main entree. The dip was tasty, but I d prefer it to be served with crackers rather than potato chips. The meatballs were a little dry and oxtail a little salty. The service was mediocre, not the most friendly server and had to stop him to take our order. I d probably come back for a morning coffee but I wouldn t go back for the dining experience.
2.5 for the dinner service however if you just want a coffee and a breakfast sandwich, it is great. Have been coming here for breakfast for a while and the sando does not disappoint ( though it is a bit pricey) Recently came for a friends birthday dinner however and the entire thing was extremely off-putting. Firstly the server was not friendly, he would leave for long periods of time between us trying to order food and drinks and it basically took us over 45 minutes just to get our food order in. He rarely came back to check on us and near the end he told us we had to wrap it up because there was another reservation ( totally understandable, its ossignton) but then never came back to give us the bill and proceeded to eat dinner at the bar in plain view of us. Eventually we flagged another server to give us the bill ???! The food was good however nothing exceptional, I would stick to the breakfast.
Great food, service, and ambiance! I enjoyed my Mediterranean platter. Will definitely be back again. The only issue is my partner didn t like his ham and cheese sandwich. He said that it was too buttery for him and he didn t think it was worth the price. Would love to convince him to try again and pick something else next time.
My girlfriend and I recently visited Manita and were impressed with our experience. We ordered the burger and curried mussels, which were both delicious and offered great value for the price point. The wait time for our food was reasonable, and the flavor of the dishes made it well worth the wait. The standout dish for us though were the olives, which added a unique and flavorful touch to our meal. Overall, we had a great time at Manita and would definitely recommend it to others looking for delicious food at a reasonable price point.
SUCH good food!
Popped into this quaint neighborhood resto on a friday night on Ossinington st. and found a relaxed, friendly, cool vibe happening. Service was quick and accomodating, our server actually paid us a compliment,(bonus points!). We kept it simple with a very flavorful and juicy roast chicken and a smokey, medium steak frites with an avocado, pepitas and arugula salad that left us satisfied and content. A few glasses of vino and classic cocktail rounded out this great neighborhood joint. Definitely coming back to try one of the citys best burgers, the Manita Burger!
i ve heard many good things about this place so i was very disappointed when both me and my friend had to send our dinners back, the steak was way too chewy and the tagliatelle tasted like it was just pasta & bland tomato sauce with no other ingredients. both dishes were overpriced, better quality food would have justified that but it wasnt good. if the service was better maybe i would give it another try but our waitress seemed so annoyed that we weren t happy with our food.
Painfully overpriced. $12 for a side of fries? $15 for a virgin drink?
The food was really great. Simple, no fuss delicious. Great bread! However .the girls working there are like zombies. No smiles, no empathy, and not interested at all in anyone entering. We ate early at 6 and were told we had to leave at 7:30. Fine. I get it. However they continued to turn away countless guests and the place was empty! Because of the staff I will not return.
Food was good but overpriced (we chose to eat there so thats fine). What is terrible is the service - had to keep asking for sugar 3x and we were near the bar on a weekday. Server kept saying sure and then would forget coz he would go back to the bar talking about his evening before with the other staff and barista. It was loud enough for tables to hear. Also took a while to bring anything - menus, take our order etc. This would be understandable if it was busy but it was a weekday before noon. Unless theres an item on the menu that you really enjoy, not worth the price for dismal service, even if the food is good.
I had a brunch on the weekend on their beautiful patio. Shared the falafel plate and fries with a friend and the serving was enough to fill us both. The person who greeted us was also super friendly. The food was good, but nothing special. Falafel was nice and crunchy, but we both agreed the dish left a lot to be desired.
Good vibes and yummy all around. Warning, there may be a lineup and if you re in a rush you should let them know. The breakfast sandwich is delicious and sloppy. As it should be.
Loved the atmosphere, service and food!
Must-try place to go for brunch! Excellent veggie burger and sandwich. Fair-price drinks. Vegetarian options: Best veggie burger ever.
good spot, tasty burger but wish it had half the fries and twice the meat
This place is great if you have an excessive amount of money and you can only spend it on mediocre food
yes, it is expensive, but the food is delicious, portions are bigger than the toronto average, and the atmosphere is great. i love the mushroom croque madame and the manita burger. they are generous with the fries too! and to top it off they have mexican coke and serve it iced with a lime
There are better places to spend $23 on a sandwich. Terrible service.
I had a horrible experience at Manitas. The waiter was extremely rude and upset at us because we moved a chair. I will never go there again.
Simple great food for brunch. I had the turkey club and was a good size. Simple. But high quality. We waited a while but they made it up offering complimentary drinks. Service was top notch
A quaint and lovely little spot on Ossington, perfect for drinks and apps in the evening! I can t wait to go back to see the atmosphere during the day as the space transforms into a cafe / grocer!
I went here for brunch and it did not disappoint! We got a croissant, scrambled eggs, French toast and the falafel sandwich. My husband and I were ooing and aahing the whole time. The eggs were a standout because they tasted like they were made with some amazing quality butter and cooked slowly. Everything was 10/10. The French toast was fluffy and the toppings were delicious. The sandwich had so many different flavours and fresh herbs inside. The service was great and quick. I m def coming to try their dinner menu.
Ive heard amazing things about Manita and finally decided to stop in for brunch. Upon arriving around noon on a Saturday the place was packed! I was dining solo so I was able to grab a seat within a few minutes indoors, but larger parties behind me were quoted about a 30-minute wait. What I got: - Croque Madame (Gruyere Cheese, Dijon Mornay Sauce, Parision Ham, Fried Egg, Salad, Cornichon) Final Thoughts: Manita definitely lived up to the hype! The Croque Madame was a large portion and piled high with ham on a crispy piece of toast and the egg on top had the perfect cooked but still runny consistency. The salad had a vinegarette and alongside the pickles helped cut through the richness of the sandwich. The tables were pretty close together and the wait for your food was a bit long, but well worth the wait in my opinion. This is definitely a sit-and-enjoy type of restaurant and not a quick bite. Ill be back to try to famous Manita burger and fries, but Id highly recommend this spot for brunch!
Had a lovely dinner as a group of 5. The Mediterranean plate was delicious, great for sharing or as a stand alone dish. The prices are pretty high for what you get, especially the cocktails.
Amazing place for brunch. Friendly service. Oxtail marmalade is a must have!
Food is so delicious and with larger portions. The Mediterranean plate and burger are stand outs for me. Love the casual, relaxed ambiance. A spot worth repeating on Ossington!
Edit: Was walking along Ossington after having dinner at Astoria and was looking for somewhere to have some cocktails. We noticed there were a few open tables on the patio so we sat down. A waitress showed up a few minutes later and scolded us for seating ourselves. Then a couple minutes later the hostess showed up and scolded us again. It s not like there was anyone else waiting to be seated. We ordered some drinks and the waitress was extremely rude to us. We had a few drinks and asked for the bill at 10:45om. When asking for the bill the waitress pointed out that it is illegal for us to be there after 11pm yet we were leaving anyway. She could have told us this in a nicer manner and we were leaving anyway so I didn t see the need to point this out. I hate to say it but this waitress was a total b1tch. I have been to this restaurant several times and never had such appalling service. Management needs to get rid of this waitress and the hostess was equally as bad. _________________________________________ Headed here to try out the burger that is plastered all over Instagram. While the burger was delicious, I was disappointed they would not accommodate my request to have half fries and half salad as my side. My choice was one or the other. Meanwhile my friend ordered the steak frites with half fries and half salad. The service was also very slow and their wine selection by the glass was way overpriced. Good little spot but these little things were annoying.
The service at Manita is the worst, and the food is not good. I really don t recommend coming here, everything is slow which is inexcusable since it wasn t busy and the waitresses here just don t care. Ordered The Soppressata sandwich and The Oxtail marmalade to try and the Oxtail took forever to come. While waiting for the Oxtail, my sandwich got cold, and it was really bad. The baguette was so hard, after biting it a few times, my jaw actually was getting sore. My waitress was non existent, I flagged the hostess since she was the only one available and she gave me a generic response don t worry it ll come out soon. I noticed other customers who came in way after us and already got their order. I asked another waitress (my waitress still no where to be found) about the Oxtail and my sandwich was already cold, but since she wasn t waiting my table, she kinda just brushed me off. Finally I saw my waitress and I asked her about it, I was just told it ll be out soon. No apologies and her attitude was basically I don t care and don t want to be here . Do yourself a favour and don t come here, there s a lot of better options in the area and you ll definitely be treated better than this terrible spot.
Great Food, Horrible Service We really enjoyed the croque madame and the french toast, but it was such an uncomfortable dining experience. Definitely not worth going the second time. I made a reservation 4 days ago for a party of 3 people at 12noon. We were seated at a single, 2-person table and had to bring an extra chair for our friend. The table was so small that we can barely fit 3 individual plates, glass cups, water bottle, and a cup of latte, let alone the food. So, we asked the servers if we could get the table next to us since there really isnt enough space for all 3 of us only to be told that the seat next to us was reserved. I looked around and all other 3-people parties (who arrived before and after us) got 2 tables to share, even the reserved table next to us had 3 people! Also, by the time our food arrived, there were empty tables around the restaurant so we asked if we can get an extra table again but the servers still said they couldnt since all tables are reserved. I dont understand why they couldnt accommodate us, especially when I also made a reservation for the 3 of us???!! It was such an uncomfortable brunch experience since we had to cramp around the table, and even got rid of our own serving plates that were supposed to share the food...totally speechless. Servers were so not helpful that my friends and I have decided not to come here anymore even though the food is nice.
Servers are ok. Not attentive or friendly but not rude
Cute little restaurant in the heart of Ossington area. The vibe and atmosphere transfers you somewhere in the Mediterranean. Menu variety is good, with both veg and gluten free options. We got club sandwich and shakshuka for brunch, and the first was a top notch with perfectly crisp fries. As for shakshuka, it was okay. As for me too many tomatoes and too sour and too crisp baguette, in my opinion something more sweet and soft would suit better (pita or chiabatta). Overall, recommend for a cute lunch or dinner
A beautiful restaurant in one of the best areas. A true gem.
Good service, great food, sat on the patio and it was a nice environment.
Such sweet staff, incredible interior, delicious food and great coffee!
I came here to try the famous Manita burger and I was slightly disappointed. For a price point of $28, it was honestly nothing special for me and my partner. We also tried the crostini with manchego and quince. It was good, nothing mindblowing, but for $8 i was quite satisfied. Instead, I wanted to draw attention to the oxtail marmalade. I felt like this dish was EXTREMELY UNDERRATED! I have never been to a restaurant that wasn t Jamaican that made a dish this unique, and was utterly in love with this dish. I dont rly understand the hype of the manita burgers, when you have a dish like this!!!! The fries were also amazing, i rly enjoyed this dish. Service was decent, but upon requesting for a takeout container, the server cleared my table without leaving me any cutlery or additional condiment containers for me to pack my condiments for the fries. Just a lack of attention to detail but nothing serious. Regardless, i wished the server was a little more attentive with packing the marmalade as it is key to the oxtail dish. I would come back here for the oxtail dish and try something else but i wouldnt care for the manita burger. Tiktok trends are always so misleading, i dont understand the hype of this burger.
Delicious breakfast sandwich! Perhaps the salmon sandwich was a little overpriced for the quantity on the plate, but quite frankly the atmosphere is nice, the staff almost all very friendly and we had a good time.
A charming Italian gem nestled in the hipster haven of Ossington, Toronto. Quite a delightful journey through Italian & Mediterranean flavors. The Mediterranean plate, lemon pasta, and meatballs were absolute highlights, each dish exuding freshness and authenticity. A side of fries is a must as well! To complement the meal, my girlfriends and I indulged in espresso martinis and aperol spritz, which perfectly balanced the savory delights. The atmosphere, with its cute and quaint ambiance, was enhanced by bay windows that provided a picturesque view of Ossington street. Manita effortlessly captures the essence of a hidden culinary treasure, making it an ideal spot for anyone seeking both delectable Italian cuisine and a cozy intimate dining setting.
Meatballs were excellent.
Except for the friendly wasps, great service and great food: variety of snacks (really nice platter of fries) / coffee / salads and pasta...etc
Terrible customer service. Even one star is too much for the service I ve experienced today. The lady who was checking reservation at the front door destroyed my long weekend. If you want to treat people with such a sour face, just go home. You decrease tips for your coworkers because of the attitude.
Great and thriving relaxed neighborhood urban vibe.
The food and location are great! You can make a reservation on their website for indoor dining which is recommended since it can get very busy and is quite small with only about 7 or 8 tables that each seat 2 people. It is very expensive though considering a breakfast sandwich is nearing 20$ for just the sandwich, no sides.
The service here was absolute trash. Slow, unkind servers. Food was mid. Go literally anywhere else on ossington for a better experience.
Lentils were absolutely drenched in vinegar! Duck was not crispy. Spicy Margarita could use a little more heat. Otherwise, everything here is quite good. Friendly staff and great music. We had no trouble walking in and getting a table at 5 p.m. on a Saturday without a reservation.
What a little gem!
What an absolutely top notch food experience. That was the beat meal I had in a long time. Tries so many dishes they were all incredible. The steak absolutely melted in my mough. The service was outstanding all around. Highly highly recommended dining spot!
Came here for Sunday brunch. We ordered two cold americanos which tasted as if the coffee had been burnt and a short espresso which ended up being an americano with the amount of water that was in it. The three items that we had planned on getting were not available so we ended up getting the shakshuka, salmon toast and vegan breakfast sandwich. The food took a very long time to arrive (40 minutes from when we got our drinks) and weren t very tasty. In my opinion it is very over priced and not worth it.
The burger and fries were incredibly good here!
Wow!! Brunch here as excellent! Im really into Shahsuka and this place had an amazing dish! Prices were reasonable. Portions were good.
I previously wrote a 2 star review for Manita because we experienced really bad customer service from multiple employees but since then, I ve come back and have enjoyed my experience. The breakfast is yummy and the patio outside is nice on a summer or fall day. Most notably for me are the fries and the chocolate chip cookie. The fries are skinny with parsley and seasoned well. It comes with mayo that feels homemade and ketchup. They don t always do takeout but sometimes they do and we are realllllllly grateful for those times! The chocolate chip cookie is made with high quality ingredients and salted to perfection.
Good vibe Good food Good Vegan falafel platter Good bread Good coffee Good service Good decor Good times Vegetarian options: Vegan options
Love this little spot on Ossington. Great coffee and nice choices for a light lunch. Open throughout the entire day into night and always popular. Outdoor seating gives you a chance to people watch over a drink. Very friendly wait staff.
Get the burger. Dont think about anything else
Manita Restaurant - Where Salmon Croissants Steal the Show! My recent visit to Manita Restaurant left me in absolute awe, all thanks to one spectacular dish the salmon croissant. It was so good that I couldnt resist the temptation and ordered a second one to take with me. Picture this: a flaky, buttery croissant embracing the tender, melt-in-your-mouth salmon. It was a flavor explosion that deserves a standing ovation. Manita Restaurant has officially won my heart with this culinary masterpiece. So, if youre in search of the best salmon croissant in town, dont hesitate. Head straight to Manita Restaurant, and let your taste buds thank you later. Its a salmon sensation you wont want to miss.
Great service, great tasting food! Note to staff: please label when your ingredients include nuts!!! Had an allergic reaction and had to leave early. Food
Shakshuka was delicious. I want to try their burger next!
Nice brunch spot on ossington st. Great burger and fries
had been waiting for 45mins for the table, and 1hour more for the food to come out. the restaurant is not that packed but everything there takes forever. the food came out was not as good as expected. they dont even deserve my 1 star review!
Awesome
I come to manita often - with the boyfriend, with girlfriends, whenever my parents are in town. The food is consistently decent with something on the menu for just about anyone. The issue is the absolutely horrendous, rude service here. This place gets very busy, so if you walk in there s often a wait. The issue is that I have NEVER felt genuinely welcomed - the girl who is often the hostess on the weekend is cold and makes you feel like you re annoying her by just walking in. The last time I was in, I put my jacket on the seat behind me (the restaurant was empty), and rather than let me know where to hang my jacket when I first walked in, the hostess walked up 5 minutes later and demanded (quite rudely) I move my jacket to the hooks in the back of the restaurant. I was taken aback by her tone, and she quickly followed up saying I m not your servant . I was absolutely rocked by the entire experience. This is not the first time I ve witnessed this hostess blatantly awful behaviour, and the worst part is everyone working at the restaurant saw the whole incident and didn t do a thing. The entire meal was awkward after that but I was relieved knowing that I will never be coming back. When I think back to the many times I ve been to Manita, I actually recall that it has never been a warm experience. When I shared my experience with my girlfriends, they all said they have also had the same impression of the place. Save your peace of mind and go to milou around the corner, or if it s for lunch - Haifa room or union (higher end but much better food and experience).
Went to a private party hosted at Manita on Friday and the whole thing was exceptionally done. Staff were friendly and present, atmosphere was beautiful, and the food was fabulous. I ate the most glorious olives, cheese and oysters = heaven. Will be back for a seated meal.
Soon to be an ossington staple.
It s a nice cozy place, the food was great(pretty expensive) small portion sizes but tasted amazing. We sat next to the door and it was freezing!!! The door kept opening and closing and opening and closing causing our experience to be horrible we had to keep our jackets on! They need to invest in some sort of door space heater or something cause it isn t pleasant!
Its really hard to rate this place with stars, since, in my opinion, its a really mixed bag. Is the food good? Yes, almost all the food Ive had (and all the food my partners had) has been quite good. A low point would be the avocado toast and a high point would be the falafel plate. The falafel balls were up there with the best Ive had in downtown Toronto, and while the whole plates composition was a bit confusing, each element did taste good. Other things to recomend the place are great, friendly service, and reasonably priced and delicious beer and cocktails. I dont own a restaurant, and I cant say what the staff here are getting paid, but $28 seems pretty steep for the falfel plate, as good as it is. The wine list is fine (maybe even good if it wasnt surrounded by a dozen better ones within a 10 min walk), but again the prices seem steep, maybe a 3x mark-up. Also only accepting cash with the caveat that they cant give change is annoying. They dont seem to need to make any changes to attract more customers, so more power to them, but IMO a few small changes could make it a pretty exceptional restaurant.
Honestly, I didnt want to go that day for brunch and boy was I ever surprised. We all had an incredible breakfasts together, beautiful restaurant, wonderful food and large portions, was one of the best brunch experiences Ive had.
Went to Manita during one of the hottest days of the heatwave and it definitely didnt fail to deliver. Had a BLT for lunch with a salad. The salad and its dressing were acidic enough to balance out the fattiness of the BLT, it was really delightful! The bread was incredibly good and sourced from Blackbird Baking Co. I ate it with a mimosa that was neither too sweet or too dry, it was also delicious. Service was so kind and personable, really made the atmosphere comfortable and you felt really tended to! The outdoor eating arrangement is nice, as well.
I loved this place! Stopped by for lunch with a few colleagues after one of them recommended it, and all of us thought it was fantastic. The menu was so unique, the food was excellent with good portions (i shared the turkey club and burrata & jamon and loved both). The fries are to die for. The side salad had an really unique lemony dressing that i loved. Our server was a total pro, and it turns out he roasts the beans for the delish coffee they have. Briefly chatted to one of the managers who was passionate and polite. If i had two tiny pieces of feedback they would be: would love a slightly larger soft drink menu and the outdoor chairs are kinda uncomfortable. Neither will dissuade me from going back asap!
I came here for brunch with a friend. I loved the vibe and its on the popping street of Ossington. We had a Burrata and proscuitto sandwich with tomato jam on the most wonderful bread with a side of fries. Next we got an oxtail dish with toasted & olive oiled sourdough with a side of salad. There are so many more lovely things Id like to try off this menu. It really reminds me of a cafe in Spain.
A superbbbbbb place for lunch. Can t wait to go back
The food and ambience was really good. We also got a burrata and jamon sandwich and it was delicious! However, the basement was flooded. I, as a heavily pregnant woman, almost the slipped. The reason I didnt slip was it was really narrow in the basement, so I hit the wall. The waiter was right beside me and heard my screaming, didnt even check on me. Nor did anyone bother to mop the basement. That was seriously unsafe.
Cool vibe with great cocktails, but the food is overpriced.
Good coffee, got an iced americano. It was a tiny bit more expensive but i enjoyed it.
Loved my lunch experience here on the patio. I came back a couple weeks later for dinner and our food was OK. The service was chaotic, and we were even delivered the wrong bill. We paid it, and then the server cam back and told us about all of these things that were missed and made us pay again. I would return for a brunch or lunch but would pass on dinner service.
Such a cool place, although a bit intimidating for someone that s from out of town. Literally everyone knew everyone, which is a very good sign. Beautiful spot, tasty food, the best fries, a different take on a breakfast sandwich which was lovely. I would absolutely visit again. Great experience!
Really lovely lunch at Manita! My falafel sandwich was delicious and their fries were also really lovely like everyone says. Staff were kind and attentive and the atmosphere was really relaxed and airy. Really enjoyed my meal and I d definitely come back!
My first stop for a splash and a nibble on Ossington...some days I dont go any further. Go, just go !
Amazing meal. Had brunch there this am and everything we ordered was incredible.
Food is amazing, so fresh and delicious the service is great, and the staff is so nice and helpful. No pictures as we are outside on the patio and they did not show up in the dark. But we will be back and will definitely post pictures in the future! A must visit for proper tapas and fresh food!
The perfect spot for a solo mid-week brunch on a snow day. Manita is small yet vibrant, buzzing with positive energy interlaced with soft jazz in the background. It s cute, inviting and intimate. The perfect Ossington cafe. I had the blueberry pancakes (yup I was bad) with a cappuccino. Lovely, rich and fresh pancakes. The blueberry compote was rich, juicy and sweet with just a hint of tartness. The bread was fluffy yet spongey in the middle. The mascarpone cream was the perfect topping. It s heavy though - I couldn t finish it. I ll definitely be back!
I only order the burger and fries when I come here (almost monthly) and its always the best burger and fries Ive ever had. Small place, but always buzzing. The last time I went I had to wait for a table, but it was only 20 mins and they texted me when a table became available.
Loved everything about this place. Our server was great and the food is amazing. For all the carrot cake lovers this one is to die for. We already made reso s to go back in a week.
Awful
