At Master Pot, out culinary journey is defined by the charm of clay pot cooking. We specialize in clay pot cuisine, bringing you rich and authentic Hong Kong flavors. Come savor the tradition with us!
Best Hong Kong style rice pot everyone should try especially in the winter times. The crispy rice on the bottom, stream fresh rice with all the proteins and salted duck egg on top. Amazing!
Awesome, clay pots dishes. I ordered the preserved meat with the side of preserve sausage and Liver sausage and it was fantastic. Highly recommend the food tasted fresh and the rice was wonderfully crispy and it had a little side of bok choy. Felt very spoiled by the staff as well. Baldwin was great and Fonte the chef is excellentin her skills. Also, the pork bone soup was fantastic. It’s a daily soup and highly recommended. Bring your friends you’ll be spoiled!
Love it!! The claypot rice here is amazing! The steamed chicken and steamed beef are incredibly juicy and tender, and the steamed pork patty is packed with flavor. The preserved sausage adds a perfect touch, making every bite so delicious! It's such a cozy spot, especially for a winter meal. The rice takes about 20-30 minutes to cook, so we called ahead to place our order, and it was ready as soon as we arrived. The claypot rice also comes with a soup, which is a lovely addition. Highly recommend this place if you're craving authentic Cantonese comfort food!
I come here semi-regularly for clay pot rice. So far I think it’s the best place I’ve found in the city. Flavorful but not overly salty, rice is fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside edge. This restaurant is located in a place with not a lot of foot traffic, so hope it stays open. Would recommend!
Me and group of friends visited this restaurant on the second floor Dragon City. I want to give a big shoutout to the staff at Master Pot for their incredible service. Despite having only one person managing our group of 13, along with a few other tables, they were extremely attentive and efficient. The food was served hot, in great portions, and tasted absolutely delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely be visiting again!
I ordered the Steamed Chicken and BBQ Pork Claypot Rice, and it was absolutely delicious! The flavors were spot on, and the texture of the rice was perfect. The complimentary Corn and Pork Rib Soup was also very tasty and a nice surprise. Highly recommend this place for satisfying claypot rice!
Located on the upper level of Dragon City Mall, this restaurant specializes in Hong Kong-style claypot rice. The decor is charming, with street milk carts hanging from the ceiling. The restaurant's Chinese name pays homage to an old Stephen Chow movie, which adds a nostalgic touch. The portions are very generous, and the food tastes great. The best part is the burnt, crunchy rice at the bottom of the pot, which you can scrape with a rice scooper. It is a hearty meal perfect for a rainy or cold day.
We ordered 4 clay pot rice with different kind of toppings. They were all tasty. My favorite part was the crispy rice in the bottom. The trick to get that part is to scrape with the smaller spoon from top to bottom. It can be very sticky! The assorted preserved meat is a mix of 3 different kind of meat: red chinese sausage, liver (darker one) sausage and the third seems like a thin sliced cured pork belly. Service was great and it takes about 20 minutes for the food to be ready . The meal was very kept hot in the pot and adding their soy sauce is a must. A drink is included with the meal. We had a milk tea and it was good. I would definetely comeback!
Nice claypot rice with crispy rice base, staff is friendly too. The claypot rice comes with either a drink or soup of the day. We had the dried Bok Choy soup which tasted like home, clear broth with no MSG.
Amazing! Highly recommend. On the second floor of the Dragon Mall. Hard to find but a total gem!
Follow @bredgyeats for more food pictures! Now this is clay pot rice that I can get behind, the rice boasting a moist centre and the illustrious crispy edges that are a delightful contrast of textures. The chicken is a humble piece of silky smooth protein, thats complimented with the umami bombs of the preserved sausages, salted egg, and a tender pork patty that oozes fatty juices that are absorbed by the rice. The vibrant pieces of bok choy, chilli oil, and sweet soy sauce complete the symphony of flavours for a satisfying meal.
Very delicious, drinks included
Just came back from Hong Kong and the food here is even better can you believe it? The mushrooms are gold, it has given a wonderful scent infused in the rice like good cocktails. Ill be back again next time.
Excellent. We ordered the beef with a hot pot egg. Successful taste and flavors.
great for a homesick hong konger
Very authentic clay pot rice! Especially the burnt rice bottom, very crispy! Yum
I personally love clay pot rice. And when your able to pick your own toppings one by one thats a +. Price is fair, service is good. Should give it a try
I come here for a quick lunch. Its on the second floor of the Chinatown Center. The food is ok, not much special. Good for a quick meal only
Came across this place by accident while wandering around. Got the Clay pot with chicken & mushroom. Bottom could have been a bit crispier but cant complain as its the only one of its kind dt and prices were good Food : 4/5
I order from here frequently. The most recent order, they did not give me the meat patty that comes with all the bowls, they only gave me the toppings that I selected. See photo.
I remember eating quite a lot of these claypot-style rice bowls growing up, so I expected this to be quite a bit of a nostalgia trip. Unfortunately I thought the food was pretty mid. The beef bowl had way too much rice, not enough gravy and the meat layer was too thin. It felt basic and lacking in flavour. The chicken and mushroom was definitely better but the rice proportion was still off. Some of the sides were okay, like the stuffed chilli eggplant. However some didnt taste fresh at all, like the shumai tasted like frozen food thats been reheated. Overall, there was nothing bad but also nothing too special.
Ordered through Uber eats. I was impressed with the presentation; it came in a metal container within a box and the vegetables were packaged separately. The rice was still crispy on the bottom and it was still really hot. Portions were good.
absolutely disgusting i found a fly in my food and the workers are so disrespectful. one old lady and one young boy. avoid at all costs
tasty
I have ordered takeout from this restaurant four or five times. The first time there was no problem. The eel rice was two pieces of eel. The other times it was all one eel and it was very small. Damn it, can it still be opened? Let s close it down as soon as possible.
The barbecue pork is excellent and suits a North American palate very well. Some other links require adaptation. The service is very good, the server smiling but does not respect all the usual conventions. I recommend this restaurant.
Ive ordered from master pot several times as take out now and I must say, Im very impressed! Its not easy to find a place that makes proper clay pot rice, and even as delivery its still really really good. I dont know how, but even with delivery they manage to get the crispy rice at the bottom! The price is reasonable for the amount of food you get, and the quality and taste is good too. Its a simple dish, simple flavors, but not easy to make well. A bonus is that it comes nicely packaged, using recyclable materials! I cant comment on service and atmosphere since Ive never dined in, but based on the food alone Id give it full scores. Id be interested in trying dine in if Im in the area for sure!
Delicious classic claypot meals. Reminds me of claypot dishes in HK and Singapore. Perfect comfort food, and nice restaurant vibes
A true clay pot rice restaurant serving crisped rice edges.....so yummy!!! Very hard to find in Canada that serves claypot rice like this. Been to other cities and provinces and couldnt find one like this.
Good service, good atmosphere. The rice is tasty. Food
Its terrible. When I walked in, I asked how long it would take to wait for the meal. The aunt said it would be up to 17 minutes. Then we waited for a full forty minutes. I went to eat here when I had nothing to do.
The chicken was a bit undercooked, and the barbecued pork was delicious but not too charred, but if you stick to the claypot rice, it would be better because too much rice would be burnt! So full after eating!
Fills in a very niche space in downtown Toronto. Not very man restaurants (if any) that focus/specialize on clay pot rice. Pricing is extremely reasonable at around $16 per pot, with portions being large enough to be more than filling. Biggest pro is that they also do takeout/Uber eats and they package the food in a container that somehow manages to still create a crust.
Wow finally, a clay pot rice restaurant that s great in Toronto! The flavors and portions are awesome. Rice and meats were cooked perfectly.
Highly recommend this hidden gem for classic claypot rice. Absolutely delicious.
We had a pleasant time at this Chinese restaurant specializing in claypot rice. I tried the preserved meat on rice, while my boyfriend got the preserved meat with pork ribs on rice. The portions were great for the price, however the dishes consisted mostly of rice (I would have preferred a bit more veggies). I also found that the taste was very simple (perhaps traditional?) since there wasn t much seasoning however, they do provide chili oil and soy sauce to up the flavour profile. Since the food is freshly made, it took a bit of a while for our food to come out (around 20 minutes despite there being only one other customer in the restaurant). However, the workers are quite nice and the atmosphere of the restaurant is great!
Absolutely delicious! rice is sticky and flavourful, and the meat is very juicy and adds perfectly to the flavour of the rice. The dish is warm and fragrant, and I love that the rice near the pot gets crispy as a treat right before you re finished the meal. Portion is quite generous as well. I always did think that Toronto lacked a good claypot rice place, so this is a great addition to Chinatown. I will for sure be back
Great value, huge servings!
Definitely an authentic taste of Hong Kong Clay Pot rice you wouldnt wanna miss!
Tastes good
Very cozy place and authetic HK pot style rice. Portion is great for the price. Yes it does take 20 minutes to prepare a real pot rice, if you think that s too slow then you are just dumb
Have been here a couple of times. Loving the clay pot rice. They give you a scraper to get all that delicious scorched rice on the side. It even tastes great overnight. It has also passed the HK parents test. Highly recommend Vegetarian options: Has vegetarian clay pot - has veggies and I think some form of mock meat. The marinated tofu is also really good
I just ordered a delivery from uber eat: Preseved meat with steamed chicken on rice 16.99. No chicken at all, not matching with store photo. This is not the first time i got cheated by this store in uber. Dont order food from a cheater
Perfectly crispy clay pot rice with lots of choices for toppings. Food is fresh and made to order, so give the kitchen 20 minutes.
Delicious clay pot rice! Hot, tasty and crispy. Authentic just like in Hong Kong. The server was great too. The restaurant was super clean! What a gem!
Ordered the chicken feet and pork ribs rice, the meats were very tender and well marinated, everything remained juicy and nice crispy rice at the bottom!
Really good
Unexpected delicious taste and acceptable price
Not too bad
Just walking around Chinatown in search of new food to try. Pleasantly surprised by authentic HK clay pot rice. Ive ordered a preserved meat and steamed pork patty on rice and the Chinese style marinade assorted platter. The preserved meat is sweet, savoury and provides a toothsome texture that contrasts with the fluffy rice. Steamed pork is juicy and flavourful. The simplicity in the pork patty allows the pork natural flavour to shine, while the cooking wine perfectly removes the undesired pork scents. The rice itself is cooked to perfection. The middle layer in the pot is steamed to the appropriate texture, while the bottom layer is crisp, but not burnt. Of course, I have to compliment the sauce that you add by yourself. The sweet soy sauce brightens the entire dish while subtly giving a deeper flavour. This unique cooking method with the clay pot surely made it a transcending dish. The marinade assorted platter is however rather disappointing. The marinade is neither sweet nor savoury enough, while the herbs and spices are rather muted from the long boiling process. Combined with the short marinating time on chicken wings and fried tofu, this has left a lot of room for improvement. I recommend against trying this dish. The cooking time could be a little long (20ish minutes), but thats a short time to wait for the spectacular rice. Overall, Im very surprised by this hidden gem on the 2nd floor of dragon city mall. I will certainly be back to try the customizable clay pot rice. No wonder the restaurants chinese name is translated to be god of cookery.
The lady serving us was so sweet, kind and welcoming. The pork patty dish was great, I d say expect the food to take idk.. 10 mins to arrive? It felt longer than I expected but well worth it. Licked the bowl clean. Such a comforting meal. I d easily come back. The food was more than satisfying, it was affordable and I really enjoyed the service.
Location is new and clean. Equipped with individual washrooms. Menu has lots of options and comes with a drink. Would appreciate a non-disposible packaging of drinks when served inside the restaurant. Food is delicious and utensils are clean. Seating is spacious, large aisles, wheelchair okay. Servers speak English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Lastly, they play a good music playlist, 90s HK pop, all your favourite karaoke singalongs, which gives a nice atmosphere for a casual meal. I would go back just for the music! Kid-friendliness: There are highchairs available
[Visited 2024 March] I visited during lunch hour on a weekday. I opted for the 3 topping clay pot rice salted fish, meat patty and mushroom. I really enjoyed it and the special claypot rice soy sauce was really good. For those who don t know, the typical Hong Kong claypot restaurant would cook up their soy sauce, adding house seasoning mix to it. It is often a little more mild and sweet than plain soy sauce. The portion was quite big, I think one claypot can be shared between two people. Since they make the claypot rice fresh, I recommend accounting for about 20 minutes for them to make your order. Perfect for a colder day. I will definitely visit again.
Authentic taste of HK style claypot rice! Servers all speak Cantonese and are very friendly. Every claypot includes a hot drink. Tasty, delicious, authentic and reasonably priced.
I just want to say it doesnt worth the 4.6 overal. I waited for like half an hour. The rice is super hard. Nth you cant buy at a Chinese supermarket. It probably worth like $3 but selling for like $15.
I was craving some clay pot rice and this place came in clutch. Generous portions and the food is delicious. Highly recommend!
Tasty rice bowl, crunchy but not burnt. 2 thumbs up
Amazing food in a cozy environment with attentive staff. The portion size is quite good with a wide variety of choices! Specific drinks and the daily soup are free. Please note that they only take cash and debit.
It s rare to praise a restaurant in Toronto, but this claypot rice dish is really good. Liked by a young man from Guangzhou Follow-up review: Except for the Claypot Rice with Cured Meat Rice, I don t recommend the others. They all have some flaws. Basically, they have too much water and the rice is not crispy. Then be prepared to wait for 20 minutes.
Great food, generous portion. The service staff is also amazing, making you feel right at home. If you dine in, you also get a free soup or drink.
Hong Kong style clay pot rice restaurant that serves marinated snack items at reasonable prices, located in Torontos Chinatown. Ordered the $10 marinated snack mix platter. It was tasty, egg was sauced perfectly, tofu was silky, chicken wings were decent. We ordered the silverfish with spare ribs clay pot rice. Took longer than expected to arrive, but it tasted normal. There was crispy burnt rice on the pots edges. Restaurant gets a lot of delivery orders, so they prioritize those over dine in customers. Decor is modern, mostly hard seats with some cushioned bench seating around the sides of the restaurant. Service was reasonable. Wheelchair accessibility: Can ride elevator to 2nd floor. They have wheelchair accessible doors.
We were exploring Chinatown. This place looked interesting and had good reviews on Google, so we decided to give it a try. This restaurant s specialty is Hong Kong-style clay pot rice. I ordered a classic one - chicken feet with pork ribs. It was flavourful. Even though the server forgot to give us soy sauce while every other customer had one, we didnt feel like we needed it. The rice was moist. I would prefer it to be a bit dried so that that would be more crunchiness at the bottom of the clay pot. I believe they could cook it according to my wish next time I come. When you dine in and order one clay pot rice, you can get a $2.49 valued drink or daily soup for free. The daily soup was pork ribs with pear. It was quite tasty. We also ordered a milk tea, but it did not taste strong enough for us. The interior design was fun. We liked it. The server was not rude or anything, but not very attentive, perhaps new. No complaints, though. I already recommended this place to my friend.
Flavourwise, great and authentic. But the rice was a bit mushy, and the service was slow.
Great value and excellent clay pot rice. Rice is so fragrant you can smell it as you enter the store, which is a great sign. Meats were tender and well seasoned.
1. 2.49 drink is complimentary, but the server forgot to waive it. Please double check your receipt to avoid being over 2. Rice is too wet and soft. The taste is not authentic. 3. Food service is too slow, we waited for 20 minutes before my food arrived even though the restaurant wasn t busy. In addition, I have almost finished my food before my friend s meal finally arrived. 4. Poor service. Server couldn t speak English proficiently and we had difficulties understanding him. We also have to top up water ourselves. The server did not ask us how the food tasted or check in on us. He also has difficulties remembering what we ordered and asked to confirm our order twice even though we only ordered two simple dishes.
The casserole was DELICIOUS! I ordered two: one with pork ribs and chicken, and the other beef with preserved meats. They were warm and comforting, perfect in this cold winter weather! The staff were very nice and welcoming. I will definitely come dine again.
Friendly staff, delicious claypot rice
Really good food and big portions for the price, worth a try!
New place that opened up in China Town! Authentic and very delicious Chinese food :)
Tasty hot pot rice, friendly service and clean environment.
Very delicious claypot rice! Definitely the best in Toronto. The only other time I actually enjoyed this style of rice was back in Hong Kong. The staff are super friendly and the stylish decorations along superb cleanliness provided my family and I an excellent dinning experience. 100% will recommend to friends and family
Food is great! Portion is generous and taste and texture both great. They just grand opened so the food might take a little time. Other than that it is fantastic.
Great atmosphere, the entire experience gives me feeling that we are back home in Hong Kong, which is not common in downtown Chinatown. The place is also newly renovated with street style! We re greeted with waitress speaking Cantonese as well as canto songs in background :) Food was great too, big portion, grand opening and offer 30% off. They took my mom s order by mistake but they made it up offering free dishes. Overall it s awesome and highly recommend if you want some comfort food nearby!
Still grand opening , 30% off until Nov 5. The place is still quite new and clean! The rice pot is nicely cooked in the pot and taste fresh and quite good! Seems fair for the asking price. The rice is freshly cooked with the ingredients. The mince pork we got is quite soft and juicy. The rice dish is 5 stars for the asking price. It has on the bottom of the pot. The hot HK milk tea however was not great to be honest. It lacks the tea flavour and only luke warm when arrive. But since it came included with the rice dish I will forgive this but I would be upset if I was to ordered this and get charged from this milk tea separately for this quality hope they will improve the milk tea. Overall still good experience!
The food is super good! I love the crispy rice, one of my other friends also love that so much!!Will come again definitely. Even they are so busy, but the staff still so polite to every customer.HIGHER RECOMMEND!!!
Wasnt expecting much, but when the pot arrived it really change my mind. The clay pot rice is super good! Salted fish is very tasty! Chicken is extremely juicy and tender. Pork Patty made perfectly with great texture, not too soft not too hard. Rice is cooked to perfection, a little toasted at the base and soft on the top. I like you can add you own soy sauce, because the meats are tasty enough, you dont have to add too much sauce in it rice. Will definitely come back for more, especially during cold weather!
Amazing food great price
Went with friends. The restaurant seems to be newly opened. There were not many people dining when I went there. Do you pour the water yourself, cutlery, napkins and dishes, or do you open the drawer and get them yourself? The meals ordered by the six of us were all OK for 5 of us. One of them has to say something. Claypot rice with chicken feet in black bean sauce is not delicious! ! The ribs are dark, they must have been marinated for too long. I also heard some complaints about meal times from the tables next to me.
Food is tasty and servers are nice however service times are extremely long and everything is DIY (get your own utensils and water). Largest complaint are meal times tried twice and first times my meal took about 45 minutes to arrive and second time I waited 45 min, they got my order wrong and I waited another 40 min to get it wrong again but decided to eat it anyways
We came in at around 9pm, the staff were very friendly, the pot rice was very delicious
This new place a nice, spacious atmosphere. The servers are friendly and patient. Food was very good with generous portion. Very good price and highly recommend.
Tasty food, good service, will def come back again.
Absolutely delicious! Love that all the staff members were able to speak Cantonese. One of the waitresses actually learned Cantonese in 3 months and I was super impressed. They were also playing classic Cantopop in the background, which I appreciated so much. Wait was a bit long but it was worth it because they were making the claypot rice from scratch. You get awesome at the bottom of the pot, which was definitely part of the charm of claypot rice. Highly recommended!
Really authentic and delicious clay pot rice! Each pot comes with a free drink as well! Will be back!
Amazing, fresh, great value, nice presentation
Great food with a good price!
very impressed, authentic Cantonese pit rice with flavorful meat. Will definitely go back for more
New 2nd floor spot right in the mall. The M1 and M4 were pretty good with quite generous portions. Friendly staff as well.
