969 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON M6H 1L7, Canada
We are a ethiopian bar
Can someone tell me if this restaurant is open? I remember it closed down few years back
Nazareth is the best in town. Period!
It's an awesome place, you are always welcome there, affordable prices. Would always recommend to visit
Best spot in Toronto to eat, drink, listen and watch videos, dance and play hand drum! She undercharges her customers and loves each and every one. Tip her well and make up for her modesty! This is such a welcoming and unique environment. You won't regret a visit no matter who you are
Let's start with the food. This is the reason you're here. It's delicious, and there's a lot of it. There are vegetarian options, but you won't be disappointed with a meat dish. Everything is well spiced, well prepared, and it wouldn't be a stretch to say this is the best Ethiopian food in the city. The decor is nice, too. But it ends there. The staff are plain nasty. It feels as through they'd rather not have diners in their dining room. When you order, they drift away without acknowledging anything. It's not clear whether they have heard you. And sometimes it's important to get that clarification, because you might have to order the same thing more than once. The restaurant is so popular, there is always a line-up. And yet food takes forever to get to the table. Bet on at least two hours here or you'll be shoveling a few bites in your mouth before packing up and rushing out the door... something that won't necessarily happen because it takes just as long to pay. Honestly, as delicious as Nazareth's dishes are, the food wasn't worth it. Nearby Ethiopian places offer comparable meals and aren't nearly as packed.
The food is amazing. The wait (to be seated and subsequently served) not so much. Took almost 1hr for each. Even when, another time, arriving just after open the food took close to an hour so be prepared to wait. There's simply no way around it as they apparently cook nothing ahead of time. All the same, the food is fantastic.
The prices are low and the food is exceptional; no other Ethiopian restaurant in the area offers the same overall value. However, the restaurant is small and the owners work at their own pace, so expect a wait time to sit down and a wait time for food to be prepared. The food is worth the wait though
Awesome Ethiopian food. There's a reason why this place has a line up, their food is top notch! All dishes are reasonably priced and portion sizes are generous. The restaurant is a little small and I would suggest a group size of 4 people max. If you haven't tasted Ethiopian food before, treat yourself to this restaurant.
Great lil spot.
Wonderful vibe....beautiful souls and the Ethiopian music never thought i could jam too!!
Irregular opening hours are frustrating.
Nice place great customer service very friendly I enjoyed it I would definitely go back.
Fantastic food at low prices. My only complaint is their irregular opening days. Ive gone there at least a couple of times to discover them closed.
amazing food. too bad its closed
This place is closed since about a year ago
Restaurant rating: 5 Update: Used to be a restaurant, but the kitchen is now permanent closed. Its essentially an Ethiopian bar now. No rating
Best lamb tibs Ive had in Toronto! Very affordable too. But in the event you show up and theyre not open or the lineup is out the door, the restaurant is surrounded by other Ethiopian joints in the neighbourhood on Bloor Street, so you can still get your fix.
I had to be rushed to the hospital after eating here. Awful.
Best Ethiopian food in the city. Lamb is heavenly. Very small and long wait and no reservations, but worth the wait.
Its great when its open! Weve planned so many times to go during regular dinnertime hours, driven in from the burbs only to find it closed. Yesterday, doors were open but a sign on the front window saying kitchen was closed. Public Health sign in window is green.. so what is the reason for this? Makes me wonder. We have since found other Ethiopian restaurants that are also good in the area. This location isnt consistent enough for me.
Amazing food. Great prices. Long waits. Worth it when its open.
Lovely atmosphere awesome food! missing so much...
Absolutely delicious food, long wait but worth it. Small place very popular. Taste like real Ethiopian food. No cutlery allow, cash only.
Food is amazing and so is the value. The major downside is that the service is so slow and there is a super long line up for tables because the space is so cramped. Bless the one server that works here.
This place is now closed! But the restaurant next door has some equally good food. Not as great as Nazareth, but still really good. Plus, Im standing at this restaurants closed door and taking the closest option!
Second time reading Ethiopian food and loved it. The place is small and cozy and run by two people. It takes time but its worth it!
Super yummy, huge portion and cheap!
Long wait, delicious food, great price
Unbelievably good food and super reasonable prices. Get the veggie platter! Be prepared for a wait to get a table and also for the service to be a little slow. But the wait is so worth it, I promise.
Best Ethiopian food Ive ever had. Just order the veggie platter and be happy. Cash only, but theres a atm, be prepared to wait for a table at busy times.
On our never ending search for novel experiences, we headed to Nazareth Bar to experience Ethiopian dining for the first time. Not knowing much else other than that we were soon to be eating with our hands, we walked into the restaurant on a Friday night. Youll promptly see that the restaurant is quaintly small, which makes for a bit of a wait for a free table. As you wait, youll take in the warm, dim atmosphere, and be teased by the hearty aroma of your impending Ethiopian food experience. Bringing a small group is fine, but I would suggest keeping it under five. The big deal about Nazareth is the variety of injera dishes that they serve. Injera itself is a porous, and essentially spongy sourdough flatbread. It is not bounding with flavour, which leaves room for the various toppings to shine through. You eat the dish by tearing off pieces of injera and using that to scoop up the toppings. We ordered the kitfo and the vegetarian special. Despite each dish costing $10.61, we were advised that were we about to be served a substantial amount of food, so were we stuck to our choice for the three of us. The dish was served on a platter with both the kitfo and the veggie special on the same injera. The kitfo is minced lean beef, butter, and mitmita (i.e. typically chilli peppers, cardamom seed, cloves, and salt). The first couple bites were delightfully buttery and really hit the spot, but would have quickly become too one note had we only had the kitfo. Thats where the veggie special came in. Honestly, the veggie special wore the pants in the relationship on this plate. The special comes with various components including: lentils, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, green beans, spinach, kale, and a strong white cheese. None of the veggie components are going to knock your socks off, but together with the injera, and various combinations of the items on the plate, youll be satisfied viscerally. Honestly, I wouldnt order any of the meat dishes without the veggie special. Though the food was pretty damn good, I have two beefs. Firstly, the seating room is small to the extent that you will likely be bumped a number of times during your stay. Secondly, after we waited in line for ~30 minutes, we had to wait for ~1 hour to get our food. The staff are relaxed, fun, and welcoming, but it looks like they arent necessarily hustling and bustling to get you your food. That being said, its hard for me to complain since the waitress is so welcoming that you feel like shes your aunt, and that you should just be patient. I would probably try one other Ethiopian restaurant first, but Id be happy to come back with a couple friends for a calming and soul warming African dining experience.
Long wait at the door, but the food is definitely worth the wait! Highly recommend the goat tibs!
Great experience, incredible value for price, but always a long waiting time
i dream about this food! its that good! having never experienced Ethiopian food before, wow! amazing! the atmosphere has a cozy hole in the wall feeling mixed with a bit of Stranger Things because of the random lights strung up all around. its constantly busy so if you arent a patient person, dont go. or go alone so you can sneak past the line and ask if theres room for 1 at the bar. veggie tibs, get in my belly!
Long wait , but its honestly the best wait because you get so hungry and if youre lucky you can try and finish the whole portion. Delicious food, very authentic and cozy
Great food, one of my favorite places to eat in Toronto. If you dont mind ~60 min wait after you order and okay service, youll have a great time. Very reasonably priced too. Get there before peak times.
Delicious and inexpensive, the veggie platter is vegan, I believe! Theres usually a long wait unless you come early. Love this place, though.
Best ethiopian place around. The line up is long for a reason
Nazareth is the best Ethiopian food, so delicious, huge servings. The vegetarian plate is the best. Exceptional taste and quality for $10. Service is what it is. You will have to wait for a seat and then you will have to wait for your food. But trust me the wait is worth it.
Good food & very bad service. My friends and I waited over 90 min for the food. Not worth it.
Great food, but service takes forever. Hard to communicate with the staff. Long time to get seated, fed, and to pay and leave. Still though, so tasty.
Very good food
Long wait but amazing food
Some of the cheapest, best food Ive ever had in my life. Service is atrocious though! Unfortunately for the quality of food and price you pay, its worth it. Definitely check this place out especially if it isnt busy, theres usually a lineup during dinner
Never ask for cutlery Big glasses of wine Disco party after dinner is fun Veggie injera dish is the best Ive had in the gta
The only thing that saves Nazareth from 1 star is how delicious the food was. Service was completely atrocious. We waited over an hour to be served, and they gave us a meal we didnt order. We ate it anyway, because by that point we were hangry, but we literally ordered the two dishes on either side of it on the menu. There are only around 10 items on the menu, so this was a pretty terrible mistake. We had the most rickety table, too, and multiple times throughout the night it got bumped, sending our drinks all over the table. The staff were inattentive and not friendly. Now I understand why they always have a line-up out the door. Its not because its so incredible, but because it takes forever for them to get food to each table. This place is one of the most over-rated restaurants Ive ever been to. I really dont understand why everyone loves it so much when you can get equally delicious Ethiopian food with better service and more selection elsewhere in the city, with no lining up.
Amazing food, friendly service but be prepared to wait...its worth it!
Great staff, good food, decent price
Great food and ambiance.
We went there on Saturday around 9pm. The place was busy and we waited about an hour in the line to be seated. Staff was friendly and generous. Our meal was delicious and totally worth waiting for. Great place
One of the hidden gems of Toronto. There might be a line up on the weekends but its totally worth it. The menu features gigantic platters of delicious food for around $10 each. The staff is very friendly and approachable considering how busy they are. Cant wait to be back and try other dishes!
Excellent food, but wait times could be horrible. The service is not always good - depends on when you come - it could be either good or really testing your patience. Still worth, just for the food
Cheap,filling,delicious and great for sharing.
Food is unbelievable. Very authentic experience. Expect to wait a while for your order as the meals are prepared fresh. Its worth the wait. The lamb and fish dishes are among our favourites.
2 hours wait for the food, they forgot what we ordered. While waiting, I was showing my friend a video on my phone and the owner came by and rudely told me to put the volume down on my phone. An hour later still waiting for the food she blasts the speakers of her stereo to the point I had to plug my ears and starts horribly singing on the mic Happy Birthday to someone... Last time I come here. I also ordered take out one time, I came an hour after I ordered and they still hadnt made it, I had to wait there another hour.
Great atmosphere, food and drinks.
Great food, huge portions, nice atmosphere!
Great fun and food
The best Ethiopian place in town - highly recommend the veggie platter. The staff are also very sweet.
I love this concept! Eating with your fingers all on the same plate, very convivial! The prices are really affordable, and the flavors excellent. However, the second time we went there we got sick.
The restaurant is small and feels quite crowded. The wait times can be over an hour long, BUT the food is amazing and the prices are even better! If you have the time to wait for a table this is a must try place. Just be sure to bring a snack for the line.
Said was closed but was open a few hours after we checked it out.
Awesome food. Need to go back.
Hey thats pretty gud. Gave us extea injera bread at no additional cost
Amazing value. Amazing food. Service is wildly varied ...
Food was good, and the atmosphere is cozy. However the line wait is a turn off and you cant help but feel rushed when ppl are staring at you. I recommend going at less busy times.
Exceptionally amazing food!!!! Great staff! And very affordable! My only complaint is that they are not open enough. Last 4 times I ve come here they were closed :(
This place is great. Good food. Reasonable prices and lots of fun. Great vegetarian options.
Terrible service. Owner kicks attitude. Terrible food. Avoid .
Came in with a friend because we heard its really good.... Waited for over an hour for the food, even thou there are only 5 tables... The food is fine but the services is brutal...if youre hungry or in any hurry at all do not come in.....
All time. wowza! best! In a very long time. thank you. m
Long waits are part of the experience
Amazing food, great atmosphere, first time I tried Ethiopian food and I will definitely come when Im in Toronto again. Service can be a bit slow but still a great place! I would definitely reccomend this to a friend!
Good food, great prices. Laid back atmosphere is nice, but be prepared for your food to take a bit longer than average to be prepared.
Best Ethiopian food in Toronto.
Incredible, no cutlery, huge portions, low price Long wait but totally worth it!!
Excellent Ethiopian cuisine, neat ambiance! Service was a bit slow, but we were not in a rush to leave.
The best Ethiopian food on this side of the Mississippi. Slow service though. Who cares, food is great and really cheap. Check em out
Great service, amazing food, huge portions
Excellent food, great atmosphere. Its popular so you might go early to beat the line.
Simply incredible. Best Ethiopian Ive had anywhere.
So slow
The cheapest, biggest veggie platter of Ethiopian awesomeness you can find in Toronto. Expect to wait of youre going at peak times though. Cash only!
We had a bit of a wait but it was well worth it! The vegetarian platter is delicious and incredibly good value.
So good
The middle-aged server with curly hair is kind of rude and thats why I never enjoyed my experience there. A couple times she talked to me badly and last night, after the man at the door told us to sit anywhere, she came to us later on and rudely said we had to get up because someone was going to sit there (and we saw no one). The way she talks is so offensive my friends decided we should just leave. I think Im going to try other ethiopian restaurants from now on.
Ive literally been to every one of the Ethiopian restaurants on Bloor (on the west side of Young) and NOT ONE compares in the amount, Deliciousness and price that this one does.
Horrible customer service. I tried ordering take out online but the person on the other line was VERY RUDE. They said 45 minutes which I was ok with. I called back again 10 minutes later and my order wasnt even put through. I understand they are busy, but this isnt how you speak to customers.
the best Ethiopian I ever had.... food is great and portions are generous.. service is not the best but staff are super friendly...
One of the best and cheapest restaurants Ive been to in Toronto.
Amazing! You get a TON of food that is delicious. The owner is also lovely :)
Super cheap. Even With a pitcher of beer. More food than my friend and I could eat. Amazing.
Food is amazing. Service is generally good though last time I was there, about 2 years ago, the owner/manager accused us of not paying the bill. Havent been back since but might give it another chance.
Food poisoning coupled with bad service. Avoid this one.
Amazing food.. slowing service but value cannot be beat! Wife and I had full meal there for under 22 bucks!
Best in Toronto
Price is about 70% of a comparable meal of other ethnicity. Ethiopian food is fantastic, and this place is, too! The plates are huge and the injera bread is great. If you order two plates for two people, youll probably have leftovers.
Fantastic food and price
Seafood platter was simply *AMAZING*! ...the vegetarian platter... well, was not. It was good, but nothing crazy, really. And the service... The service was close to non-existent. We waited for 15 min for anyone to even approach us, 35 mins to get a single dish and 20 some to get the bill... Apparently patience is not of my strongest virtues.
Definitely one of my favourite restaurants for so many reasons. Great taste and inexpensive and Ive been served by the same person in each of the numerous times Ive been there. Veggie Tibs is my staple.
Best ethiopian food in toronto
