O&B Canteen is a bright and casual restaurant and Grab & Go counter located in the heart of Toronto’s Entertainment District at TIFF Bell Lightbox.
Had not been for awhile but wanted a light meal. The server was very nice but the service was slow. My sense is they are under staffed. Once my order was taken my Protein Green Bowl arrived very quickly followed by my wine. Loved the Protein Green Bowl. My server checked in after I was served but then disappeared when I was ready to pay. Realized she was tied up at the other end of the restaurant. I would like to go back as close to home, light menu with good food but wish they would staff better or seat customers together making easier when staff limited
A pleasure to have a restaurant like Canteen to eat at when visiting the Bell Lightbox for a film. Bright street level restaurant. Good food but the service, tho friendly enough, is a tad slow. I think if you let server know you’re off to a film they will give faster service though. Creative menu, good sharing options. Our table shared excellent poutine and guacamole with chips. Both dishes were a treat! Everyone had their own entree. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered: Burger, Eggs Benny, Halloumi Wrap, Shakshuka. Very reliable restaurant.
Play is minimal but very beautiful. The food was just mid. Had the OG Squid Taco, which I mistakenly thought was grilled Squid but it was just fried calamari in a soft taco shell. The flavor was on point but would have tasted better with grilled squid. The Southwestern Chicken Salad was bland as per my wife. Happy Hour Drinks were plentiful And very affordable.
Really great little place to go post-theatre. We went after Wicked today as it was literally across the street from the Princess of Wales theater. We didn’t eat lunch or dinner but enjoyed a latte and dessert. The menu isn’t very extensive for desserts but it is easy to find something wonderful to have from pannacotta to brownies. I enjoyed the marshmallow brownie with a latte which was a perfect size. The place itself isn’t tiny nor is it too big but even with it being half full the volume was perfect enough to have a good conversation with my party. The prices were a bit steeper than usual, with each dessert being $12. Our bill for three people having a coffee and cake each came to almost $60. So definitely not some thing we could do every day but it was definitely a nice treat. We will be back again after our next show.
I can’t say that I’ve really had a great experience here, although I haven’t been in some time and wanted to try their Summerlicious dinner menu. I also think it’s convenient if you have a movie upstairs in TIFF Lightbox right after, which I did so I gave it another shot. I had the popcorn shrimps for my appetizer. The shrimp was dry and with the breading just tasted like frozen or store-bought shrimp in a bowl with a wedge of lemon and some aioli. I think this is missing something as a dish because you’re really just eating a heap of small dry shrimp and it gets monotonous. I had the wagyu katsu for my entree. This was really disappointing considering wagyu is known for some great marbling and being tender and rich. The meat was an unpleasant grey colour and was bland and dry. The breading falls off as you bite it and you’re just left with the not so appetizing sight of the grey meat. The jasmine rice was also really disappointing. It tasted old and poorly cooked. My friend ordered the same thing and we sent both of them back because we felt the same way about both of ours. The manager came over and we expressed our feedback on the dish and he was accommodating enough to provide us different entrees. I had the salmon bowl this time, which was a lot more edible. It’s a filling dish portion-wise, and the salmon was cooked fine. My dessert was the black forest cake. This was again to me a poor dish. You have this mountain of whipped cream covering a slice of dry sponge cake. There are two types of cherries used in the same dish which doesn’t look very cohesive to me. The server was nice. After we complained about our entree, it felt a bit like she was avoiding our table for some time for some reason. She had asked at the beginning if we were in a rush for anything and I mentioned we had a movie at 7:30pm. It would’ve been nice service-wise if that was actually kept in mind because I had to flag her down to get the check and dessert at the same time because we weren’t getting much attention after the entree. This is I think a restaurant I’d recommend if you want to fill up on food and need to see a movie or go to one of the nearby theatre venues. I can’t recommend this after all of the times I’ve been here now getting this consistent level of food and service quality for any higher expectations.
The food was good and the service was OK. Prices were fair. It took a while to get the food and our bill, even though the place was only half full.
Beautiful spot, super busy but didn't wait long at all for our food. Had my birthday dinner there with family. Truffle Mac and cheese was delicious!
My mom and I enjoyed the atmosphere, the vibe of the place was lively and the service was impeccable. The manager Aditiya was so gracious, kind and helpful. Our server Vitaly was truly a sweet young man. We loved getting to know them and enjoyed our experience at this establishment in the downtown core of Toronto. I recommend to try out the food and the dessert was delicious! Great place for a lunch/brunch gathering! ❤️🇨🇦
Its not a bad restaurant location. The food(fish and chips) was OK and the service was good, a little wait for my food. Will come back in the future.
The food is great, something for everyone from your gluten free friend to the burger lover in your family. The mac n cheese is perfection. Also love that the washrooms are accessible, and the staff is always great about accommodating food sensitivities. My favourite place to go after a show.
We waited a really long time to get our dishes. The dishes were small, so we were still hungry. Food
If I could give this place zero stars I would. I ordered the pizza and they brought out what s essentially a raw piece of dough. I could not even hold up a piece without the toppings dripping down the entire limp slice
Soup was probably the worst Ive ever had! It tasted like some cheap sachet stuff to which they added hot water.
Visited here at the beginning of TIFF and the atmosphere was buzzing. We had fantastic service and great food, both choosing the Canteen Breakfast, a massive portion. At the weekends they do a Mimosa Flight, it would have been rude not to try them. The Watermelon Mimosa was particularly delicious.
We went there for lunch before the theatre. We know this place is on slow side from previous experience so arrived particularly early. The drinks were slow to come and tbh, the pomegranate juice tastes more like cranberry juice. Then 40 minutes in and no food came. We inquired the server and the manager. The response is that kitchen is busy. When we said the restaurant wasn t busy at all when we arrived, the manger has the audacity to say now it s getting busy (btw, we smelled pot on the manager - while smoking pot isn t technically illegal, it s not right to do so the job). Eventually the food came and food itself is decent - nothing blow you away but solid. Then came the bill and of course they didn t offer any discount for the delay. Vegetarian options: They have a few VF dishes.
Stopped at the Canteen during TIFF. Great service & food. Also get to watch the TIFF crowd whilst sat on their patio. Food : 5/5
Best smash burgers in town! Both the regular one and the French Connection.
excelent services
The location was good, service was as well. Buffalo chicken wrap (~$20) was 90 percent lettuce, felt like eating a forest. The fries were also drenched in salt. Gave us 15 percent off, which was nice.
Was here Aug 8 12-1pm. Good atmosphere, good $5.5 beer on jays home game days. Server didnt check if I wanted a second beer, maybe was almost done when food got to us. Peameal Bacon on eggs Benny was too salty.
This was absolutely dreadful. Firstly you pay for pop refills, fills the Caesar salads with Kale, could not eat the wrap, terriblr
Great experience, attractive early evening happy hour formula. We were there quite early and the restaurant was deserted, the service was very fast!
We stopped by on a Saturday evening. It is basically a fancy fast-food place with drinks. We had tacos and burgers and they were fine. Do not expect more.
Went there with friends before the Blue Jays game. Their menu mentioned game day special of a burger & beer combo for $27. But when we tried to order it, the server said they were out of the burger. Funny thing though, when a couple of us ordered the burger off the menu, they seemed to have it. So seemed awful weird. If they dont want to give you the game day special, they should just take it off the menu. A few of us ordered the salads which were too small for $20+. My Margarita Pizza was very bad. The crust was tough. It wasnt fresh. Was cooked for frozen and the sauce was too salty. The people who had the burgers said it was good.
We arrived right when they opened but it took almost 1 1/2 hours for two eggs Benedict and their s mores brownie dessert. The food was very good, but for brunch they don t have chocolate milk and as I stated above the service was way too slow. I was also asked if we wanted to eat indoors or outdoors and due to the temperature choose inside. It was cool inside when we arrived however, by the time we left we were sweating because they had opened their sliding doors and left them open. This also meant we were joined by either quite a few flies or a couple of persistent ones. Either way it wasn t fun defending my food. So even though the food was outstanding it s not enough to make us want to go back.
There was absolutely no effort put into preparing the Summerlicious orders. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement.
What a remarkable experience! Food and service were both fantastic. The server was very helpful and knowledgeable. We felt very well taking care. Definitely recommend this place. Thank you to everyone
PSA: Dont eat here if you care about food or service or time. Came in at 2pm, one table in the restaurant. Took an hour to get chicken fingers and fries for a 3 year old and was charged 20 dollars. Portion was child sized but the same price as an adult burger meal. Pulled pork sandwich was bone dry, when mentioned I got ice cold BBQ sauce from the fridge. Not one good thing about this whole experience. At the end asked about the billing, was told they would talk to their manager and never saw the server again. Kid-friendliness: No listed kids menu, said they can do chicken fingers and fries for us charged $20, same as an adult meal.
I was very disappointed by the food and it was overpriced. Im vegan and I wouldnt recommend vegans coming here. There were only 2 options on the menu - mushroom empanadas or green protein bowl. I went for the latter and what came out was something slightly larger than a side salad. The menu had chickpeas and quinoa listed as the first 2 ingredients and I think anyone wouldve expected a bed of chickpeas and quinoa with the greens on top. Especially since its called a PROTEIN bowl. But unfortunately what came was a bowl of mostly arugula, with maybe 10 chickpeas and a sprinkling of quinoa. Im sorry but $19 for a side salad is unacceptable. Sorry but I cant justify spending that much. I would stay away.
Celebrated my husband s birthday there and had a great time. Luis went over and above to make our experience was fabulous !
Made a reservation well in advance, and when we arrive we were sat at a table in the middle of the walkway/service area rather than a nice table in the otherwise empty restaurant. We had to request to be moved. The food was good, but the prices for some items were ridiculous. A side of French fries was 10.00$, which worked out to 0.75$ a fry. 5.00$ for an ice tea which was a tea bag in cold water. The service started off ok, but then our waiter disappeared. This was our second visit to this restaurant and were super disappointed.
O&B Canteen is a total vibe! The atmosphere and the service was on point. We got the guacamole and the burger and both were absolutely delicious! Definitely will be coming back!
The food was horrible (below average brunch), flavourless, the service was awful as if we were bothering them by being there and the server had no idea what was on the menu and needed to go back and forth to the kitchen- it was not a good brunch experience. I would not recommend this place for brunch.
Tasty food, nice cocktails. Felt like our server forgot us at one point. Nice simple decor.
Delicious brunch menu, especially the cinnamon French toast (Omg the best Ive ever had). Super fast service; attentive of show times next door. Will absolutely be back.
Average restaurant with rather smaller menu. Nice staff but nothing special.
Thank you to the staff for an incredible date night dinner! Great atmosphere, great hot food to perfection and amazing kind hard working staff:) recommendations: Caesar salad, fish and chips, steak and fries, apple pie and ice cream
I have eaten there a few times before going to the theatre. The service has always been great. Last night however, a cockroach crawling around under my table was enough for me. I assume where there is one there are likely alot more.
Service and cocktails were good but food in general was average, nothing remarkable there.
Food and service were mediocre at best. Waited an hour for food that was pretty bland. The steak i got was cold and not cooked properly. Im also convinced that it was smaller than 6 ounces. Nothing great or outstanding about this place. I wouldnt recommend going to this restaurant. When there are so many better options within a 2 minute walk. Disappointing forsure.
Great staff, mediocre food. Not worth it
Service was great and food is not bad. However, the portions are so little relative to the price you pay. I paid $30+ for food but was still hungry afterwards. Had to go get a burger at the A&W nearby to get full. Would not recommend and would not come back again.
Not one to write negative reviews typically but I simply would not recommend this restaurant. Worst margarita I have ever had in my life and mediocre food. Prices relative to quality and portions were bizarre. On the bright side, the servers were nice. I presume this will get the same boilerplate reply from the restaurant as all of the other negative reviews.
Great service and the food was very good. Everyone loved the smash burgers. Dessert portions were a little small for the price but tasty.
Brunch Affair Food: plating 4, flavour 2.5, execution 1. To note flavour profile gets messed up when execution is poor. Staff: friendly, but low key ditzy. Atmosphere: Tables too small. Reno is modern and fitting for being in the dead centre of the entertainment and financial district. Wall to ceiling windows are a great vibe, but would be concerned if I were to dine here in the summer due to possible air temperature problems. French Toast: I ordered the Love me Tender, French Toast. When it arrived, it had no chicken ..? When the server came to check on us, mind you we haven t even taken a bite of anything yet, I told her this is wrong. To which she replied, you said cinnamon French toast. Me, no I did not. I can remember thinking the name was strange, but fitting when saying it out loud. I didn t appreciate that she knowingly made a mistake and told me I was wrong. To the FOH, own your mistakes and stop putting stuff on the customers or BOH. She took the plate and returned with the same plate of food but with the chicken tenders SLAPPED onto the side. The chicken was somewhat crispy, light in colour, BUT WAY OVER COOKED AND DRY. I did not eat it, I took it home for my dogs. The french toast itself burnt and not enough syrup. I appreciate the playing effort. Shashuka: bread to sauce ratio was way off. Provide more bread or offer/suggest a surplus charge side when it is ordered. Eggs not runny, not fully solid. Favours of this dish was well balanced. Salad: very standard salad. Made well, but ingredients, such as the romaine had some piece that were off. Therefore there were pink rot on them. I would only return again after a period time aka when turn over of staff occurs to see if this place gets better.
Good place to get Brunch, staff were friendly, even though it was busy.
This must be the worst place on king st west. So sad. Disappointed disgraceful Good luck good bye
Great hospitality - held our table for 20 minutes due to an unforeseen traffic delay. Emily was our server - a really outstanding server - professional, knowledgable, engaging & attentive. We are very satisfied regulars at this location as well as Blue Mountain - Emily is a star.
Cool place. Lively environment. Relatively nice staff. Okay cocktail. Awful food. I ordered Lentil Pie and still feel bloated :( It s better to work on foods quality than updating the menu! :)
Saved by the Butter Tart. We shared 2 plates. Poutine and Avocado salad. Perfect sizes for 2 people that dont have huge appetites. The atmosphere was pretty good, busy and on the louder side but it fits with the concept (and we were there pre-curtain call for the nearby shows). The food was great! I loved the buttermilk dressing on the Avocado salad. Two things that didn t meet the expectations of an O&B restaurant; we reserved for 2 and were seated right by the doors, washroom, and host stand. There were other tables open in less trafficked areas. I would understand if there werent. Of course when I inquired to the host we were politely moved to a more enjoyable spot and could converse. The other was the general attentiveness. Took awhile to even get an acknodgwment from the waiter, of which switched back and forth, it was very sterile. No water brought unless asked, would I like a drink from the menu? Sure, but no one asked so we didnt. Same for dessert, except this time we asked for it because my partner knew it was amazing and annoyingly enough it was a great Butter Tart.
Nice location but food is way overpriced for what you got. Paid $18 for two patties that just tasted like taco fillings. Rest of the stuff was average american breakfast food that tasted alright but with portion sizes worth half of the cost.
Out walking looking for a breakfast place and we came across ...Canteen. was a great choice! Food was so fresh made to order.. service was also excellent! We have the swanky BLT belt. And it was delicious! Also we had the maple eggs Benny. Definitely would order again! Also we had the Phylo wrapped cheesecake! It melted in your mouth it was so good! Highly recommend this restaurant!!
Good spot for a bite before hitting a show on theatre row & but reserve!
Came here with a buddy for lunch and got the pokebowl. One of the best I ve had in the city! Buddy got the fish and chips which looked really good too. Will try that next time.
Came for winterlicious lunch. The appetizers were delicious and the dessert was decadent. The mains were good too, but we are vegetarian and both vegetarian options were of a similar cuisine so it would have been nice to have some variety. Overall very happy with our meal there. The service was excellent! Our mains were slightly delayed in coming out (we didn t have any issue with this) but the staff were all very apologetic and even gave us a discount because of it. We appreciated the customer service!
Went for the Winterlicious tasting menu. Our meal was very tasty and the flavors paired well, the mushrooms empanada was amazing. The dessert was my least favorite, would be paired better if it was served with ice instead of the creme it was served with.
So went with my friend to try the winterlicious menu and absolutely loved the portion and it was worth the price! The server was very friendly will be back to try the regular menu for sure!
We had an early dinner before our show earlier tonight. Four of us, 2 had fish and chips, 1 had pizza, I had the pasta. We started with the calamari appetizer. The 1st 3 meals were good portions but the pasta($24) and calamari($19) were very small portions, especially for the price. I even asked the server to recommend between the pasta, pizza, and fish and chips, she recommended the pasta. When the meals arrived I knew instantly it was the wrong choice as the proportions seemed so off. Good thing my daughters had lots of fries to share with me. Our server was pleasant and attentive when we made requests but seemed very busy and we didnt see her much. Disappointing as I expected more from a OB location.
We got the tacos, the Impossible burger, and the guacamole. The guacamole was good and but there wasn t enough guacamole for all the chips. Then the two entrees came and the portions were absolutely minuscule considering they were $20-$25 dollar entrees. Also the $4 up-charge for the Impossible patty is excessive ($2 sure, but another $4 on top of the already expensive burger is plain greedy). The food tasted okay, seating was nice wouldn t go back.
March 28 went for lunch and ordered Carnitas Tacos. They were terrible! Would never have known the meat was pork - dry and no flavour. All I could taste was jalapeños and vinegar. I make better ones at home! Vegetarian options: Good options
Chef Devo makes the best salmon. It was savoury and presentation of the food was great. Ill be back
Mar. 20 - Wonderful server, cheerful, helpful and very accommodating. Great fries!
The staff here are extremely kind and professional. The place has HORRIBLE ventilation and you will leave smelling like a deep fryer - promise. The way they serve a glass of wine is silly - an empty glass, a carafe with your wine in it which you simply immediately dump into the glass, on a plate with a napkin - 3 things to wash instead of 1 and a napkin to throw away. so wasteful!
Food was great, just wanted the portion to be more. Had the chicken and waffles.
Good but not great. Nice ambiance.
Salty hollandaise. Absolutely disgusting. Shakshuka was really nasty as well. Chef did not understand how I asked for my eggs. They were slightly hard medium poached. Even tho I asked for runny yolk.
food was terrible wait was forever. don t waste your time of money
Service was excellent, for some reason, fish and chips had a bit generous amount of salt...
Great place for a pre show drink/bite to eat. Can get very busy and service therefore can be somewhat slow at times but overall its a great spot.
Went here for brunch, had a horrible experience. I ordered the Canteen Breakfast and Blackberry Bomb beverage. Food was very mediocre and took forever to come even tough the restaurant wasn t busy. The potatoes were cooked very poorly; there was a lot of burnt crumbles. Canteen Breakfast clearly said two eggs your way and I was only given one egg. When I asked the staff about it she said the kitchen has it that it only comes with one egg and that they are working on the menu so she has no idea. I never got my other egg. When I received my bill the Blackberry bomb, I was charged $6.00. However, it was listed as $4.50 on the menu (on both printed menu and online menu.) The staff said they changed it in the system but it wasn t changed on the menu and held out the machine asking me to pay. I asked her to check the menu again because I shouldn t be paying more than the amount on the menu. I did eventually get the price of the beverage adjusted. However I only got one egg and did not receive the adjustment for missing food as per clearly written in the menu. Waiter staff was very dismissive and impatient. Horrible, horrible, horrible experience overall. It is very disappointing as I ve always held O&B in very high regards.
What used to be an excellent, upscale experience in the TIFF Lightbox has become wildly disappointing if not angering experience. We went for Fathers Day brunch only to find the space has become shoddy, the service lacklustre, the menu massively underwhelming and the quality of the food embarassing. Our server was incredibly polite but admitted to being overwhelmed as they were under staffed. My wife ordered the avocado toast which was intolerably bad - we never send food back, but this grocery quality barely toasted bread and paper thin layer of avocado that tasted like prepared guacamole with a sprinkle of pickled onions and sprouts for $19. Ridiculous. Absolute cannot recommend and will avoid in the future.
Came for happy hour. 1oz pour drinks for $5 but don t taste any alcohol at all. Ordered PEI medium cut fries ($10) and smashed avocado and chips ($16). Overall not worth it.
Ok experience. Long wait for food - we noticed that this was not just with our table. 2 orders - one came out early long wait for the other. Ordered the Love My Tender and French toast and the Canteen breakfast for Brunch. Had the breakfast at TIFF drink. Servers seemed tired & distracted - sorta just there.
Came here before a show; waitress said food orders will take 20-30 minutes due to the kitchen lunch rush. Half the restaurant was empty and she took awhile to seat us. We ordered what we thought would be fast to make (avocado toast). DONT ORDER IT - they spread avocado like its butter, a thin amount, with no flavour, a few radishes and microgreens for garnish. Overall, skip this place if you can, I wont be going back.
I just want to start off by saying the service was good, however the cutlery/cups were dirty and the food was not very good. The calamari was expensive and we didn t get that great of a portion (photo included). It was good to try but I probably won t be going back.
Went for after work drinks and sat in the patio. Overall good experience. Great location, friendly staff...recommend.
Convenient brunch spot and good service. Food is good but nothing special or to brag about.
Terrible place for vegetarians. 1. Menu states that its all day with good vegetarian options however the all-day wasnt available till 4 pm... Not sure why theyd call it all-day. 2. Brunch menu has very limited vegetarian options. they didnt know how to make appropriate substitutions. We asked for extra egg and fries in place of the sausage and bacon and they barely put anything. 3. We also got the shakshuka but it came with stale pita bread instead of the advertised challah bread. The shakshuka became more bitter (?burnt olive oil). Black olives were unnecessary and didnt add to the dish 4. Mushrooms were disgusting in the canteen breakfast... Seemed like they boiled it and dipped it into vinegar 5. Home fries were normal fries and way over salted Overall this experience was abysmal
Arrived over an hour before a Mirvish show on a Tuesday evening. Asked for a table for 1 (catching a show on my own) and was told they dont accept walk ins. Restaurant was half empty both inside and the patio. I stepped outside and went onto Open Table - they had plenty of seatings available. I was tempted to book a table and walk right back in to prove a point, but ultimately, I was so turned off, I decided to leave. Have been a regular customer for YEARS because of a mirvish subscription, but I definitely will not be returning after this ridiculous customer service for an average restaurant. Enjoyed a meal across the street and Canteen was still half empty as I walked by.
Our waiter had the worst attitude. First there was a miscommunication about our beer order. From then on, she purposely avoided coming to our table. We had to wait 15 minutes for our order and the same time for our bill. Her service was appalling. We should not go there again. Food is average.
Ordered Hawaiian pizza, but something seemed off , lot off fatty pork , had to spit out and within few seconds threw up. bad place to eat pizza.
We went for an early dinner on a Saturday. The atmosphere was nice and casual. Our server was friendly and attentive. We ordered the Spicy Tuna Bowl, Fish and Chips and the Burger and Fries. All 3 meals were delicious and good sized portions. I will definitely go back.
Friendly staff and tasty food.
Good food and drinks after a nice movie at TIFF. Service on point as well.
A place worth visiting !
Steak frites was surprisingly good. Staff was attentive and fast. Much better than I expected!
We went here for a brunch. We wanted to celebrate our anniversary for dinner but they were already full committed. The servers were all exceptionally nice. I loved their ambiance. Note: I wished their menu and their dishes had a bit more protein. Food : 3/5
Everything was very mid. The food was super mid. I ordered tacos and they looked pretty but they were lackluster in taste. Wouldnt be so bad except it was 2 tacos for $22, so $11 a taco for very mediocre tacos. Service was good. Vibe was mid. Overall, an overpriced and mid experience. Only thing it had going for it is its right next to the TIFF theaters.
The location is great, especially if youre seeing something at the Lightbox. The food can be very good at times -- the French Connection burger is a highlight, maybe one of the best burgers Ive had in Toronto. The service, unfortunately, can be very amateur and unprofessional -- not rude, just clueless. Many of the serving staff seem very new to the business (or the country) and cannot always communicate very well. They also dont seem to have been taught the art of service and how to properly tend to diners in a dining room. I hope management reads this and trains their servers a bit better, as the restaurant has many positives to build on.
My family and I went in this past Sunday. After we sat down, we were completely ignored. No one came to the table. They did attend all the tables around us. It was as if we were not there. We waited and waited and eventually got up and left. No one from the staff even asked why we were leaving. The customer service here is pure trash. Im sure the food must be just as bad as the service.
Food was okay, server was pleasant. But the portions were very disappointing, tiny burger for $22, and there was probably $2 worth of calamari for $19. Never seen such a small portion for such a steep price.
Good afternoon theatre lunch spot
We have eaten here on a few occasions because it s so close to the Mirvish Theatres. My lamb tagine was very tasty, but I will say, it was really the only option that jumped out on the menu. I felt very underwhelmed by the food and wine offerings. Our young waitress was very friendly and she saved the experience, but I do think it s time for us to move on. At least until they change the menu.
The rigitoncini pasta dish was sort of good but unevenly cooked and not terribly flavourful. It was mixed with pine nut pesto, spinach, ricotta, and basil as well as squash. To be clear you get big chunks of the squash and not so much of everything else -- though they did top it with a fairly generous portion of parmesan cheese. 6.5 out of 10 @ $24.00
It looks more like a diner inside and same for the menu
My family and I were super early for a show so we had Brunch here. I had the Canteen Breakfast Burger, and it was delicious!! One of the best burger patties Ive had, it was seasoned so well. The French toast was great save for the blueberry compote that was a bit watery but the creme was amazing. I also had the raspberry Creamsicle mocktail and it was just okay. By far the best part was Maddie, our server. She was personable and sweet. We sat for 2 hours and she never made us feel rushed or like we were a nuisance. Great customer service!
Nice first time experience. Service was great and good menu options. We had an assortment of items because we wanted to share everything. Everything was good.
Very disappointing! Didn t have many of the meal options. Didn t have certain hot drinks. Service wasn t the best.
Great spot to stop and eat! Close by to a ton of great shows and event locations. (TIFF cinemas are right beside the restaurant, and are accessible from indoors). Staff was incredibly friendly and accepted a slightly larger walk-in group (6 adults, 2 kids, & an oversized stroller). Menu was wonderful and has a good range for all types of eaters. Highlights included the Eggs Benny, Avocado toast, and the French toast. Dont forget the Baileys shot for your coffee. P.S I hear the upstairs (dinner service) is top notch too.
Good place.
A really good variety on the menu. And they know how to get you out before the theater shows start
Been here more than 20 minutes and never even seen a wait staff, let alone been served by one. Maybe hire a few more people.
Good food.
Great atmosphere great food and service first time ...will be back ...oh and cold lost craft beer
The food is half decent but what youre really paying for is a good patio. Its nice to be right on King but still have *some* protection from the street noises while eating, but given the half-decent food and a pretty subpar draught beer selection, I probably wont be going back soon.
Shocked that O&B would put their branding on a restaurant this poor. It s more like cafeteria food.
I ordered ceviche here and it literally did not have one drop of lime on it. It had cabbage and dill in it?? I had to ask for limes and jalapeño. Upon requesting they said they did not have jalapeños. I got a stomach ache and the ceviche tasted terrible. Overpriced and ugly food. Do better and don t have Latin American food on the menu if you aren t serving Latin American food.
Warm beer and bad food .
Nice!
Amazing service. We love this place
Great experience. Service was outstanding and food also good. We will be back for sure
Excellent in every way...from the service to the food. Thanks especially to Cassandra for her awesome recommendations! Great music and vibe.. and the birthday treat
Food was good. Acceptable price.
When I went there I got a French Connection Burger and the burger tasted good but the issue with it was that it was super loose, in the sense that when you would it eat it, the patty would just slide out of the buns and when I took a bite out of it, it was a bit more mushy than the tradition beef patty should be. But the service and all the other food such as the fries were good.
A Lovely experience, as usual.
The space is very nice and comfortable. Its relaxing, the decor is welcoming. I enjoy sitting there. At the same time its a bit on the expensive side and not all prices are clearly laid out. I ordered a glass of lemonade for the kids and was surprised by the 5.50 tag for each that was not shared with me when offered at the table. The menu options work hard to be original but in my view they are a bit disappointing/over-thought.
Kind of regular simple food, not too many options
Lovely place, great service, delicious food and cocktails, we really enjoyed ourselves!
It was a weird experience. I went in with my newly wed cousin and her husband (we went in for a quick bite before we headed to the airport for our flights). We went in around 430pm. The restaurant was practically empty since they open at 4pm. The hostess right away asked us if we had a reservation and we said no. And she said do you think you will be done by 545pm and as a trio we said yes, an hour is more than enough time? . We were just confused as to the question so we asked. The hostess said oh, majority of my reservations are in at 545pm . - I m sorry but since when do they not have walk-in tables at restaurants? We ignored the comment and got seated outside after asking if we can sit inside. Upon ordering, I wanted the poke bowl but asked if they can cook the salmon since, I was getting on a flight in a few hours. The waiter said no the salmon couldn t be cooked, so I said no problem and asked can I substitute for shrimp or chicken? She literally told me if I m not going to have the salmon with the poke bowl then it s not worth it? I was so confused? Why couldn t she give me alternatives? Not all poke bowls have salmon. Again shrugged it off and ordered something else. It was just a very strange experience. The food was good but not amazing and honestly after the encounters with the employees and the service I wouldn t go back. Seems like this is how all the staff is at O&B restaurants lately.
Always a pleasure.
Service was good but the food was just ok. Pizza was undercooked and the dough was still stretchy in the middle. Overpriced for what you get
Best mac and cheese to ever exist. Service is always great, helpful and kind!
Finally got to try this restaurant out thanks to the featured Summerlicious event going on. Came here for my friends birthday and we all decided to order from their three course summer menu. For appetizers, we got the Mexican street corn - honestly so good! Then we got the calamari tacos and bbq pulled jackfruit bowl for our entrée (it was okay, not the best tacos Ive ever tasted and jackfruit was decent) and for dessert, we finished off with the decadent pecan tart which was super rich and nutty in texture. Personally, it was a bit too many pecans for my liking. Overall, our server was the sweetest and provided amazing service throughout the night. Worth a try if youre passing along King St and John St. Vegetarian options: Vegan and plant based options available. Vegan friendly menu!
Grabbed dinner here before a concert and the food and drinks were delicious! A good variety of things on the menu, something for everyone.
Jerk chicken empanadas were very good, and service was efficient.
Terrible !!!! Waited in line for about 30 mins to get a table for two. Got to the host stand and was told they were fully booked and didn t even have any sort of wait list !!! Host said rudely Nothing available Sure I get it , busy Saturday , at lest they can tell you before you wait in line for so long !!!!! Terrible guest service !! Poor customer service !!!! They don t care about their guest !!!!! So disappointing!!!!
Fantastic experience. Our server was terrific. Although the restaurant was full, they managed to deliver an outstanding service. We will be back again!
Several weeks ago made a reservation at a nearby restaurant. When we arrived they didnt have a table for us as they had a large group inside and they wanted us to eat outside on a very cool and windy morning. We went down the street to CANTEEN. They werent quite open but sat us at a table with menus. Service was excellent, food was good and the T-shirts were puzzling and clever!
This was my second time here as it s a great restaurant to go to before a Mirvish show. The hostess and waitress were both very friendly and nice. I had the French burger and it was delicious. I would definitely come back.
Arrived for our reservation very late due to the marathon stopping traffic in all directions. Hostess still seated us! We had a short timeframe to get to the theatre and our wait staff Sicily was wonderful when we told her. We had veggie mac&cheese and a turkey club with house salad. The veggie mac and cheese was delicious. The sauce was tasty and quite light. The veg were delicious. I would have loved twice as much veg and less pasta but it was an outstanding meal regardless. The turkey club was also delicious. The side salad was super fresh and lightly dressed with a homemade(?) mustard vinaigrette. Sicily got us fed but didn t leave us feeling rushed. After our nerve wracking start, O&B made our day. Not my first visit- wont be my last.
Great food and service!
The burgers tasted great and fresh. Poutine was a little too salty The pasta was also pretty good Would recommend as a good affordable place Recommended dishes
Varied choice, nice atmosphere but a little noisy during peak hours. Very good food
Delicious.
Great brunch. Nice atmosphere.
Best Veggie Burger in Town
Very nice place for hanging out with friends. Staff are extra nice and cooperative. Food is very tasty, fresh and quickly served. I ordered latte too. I liked that as well.
bougie expensive and not great. just got some appetizers to share. got some soda for my drink and they give the tiniest glasses, half filled with ice. so about three sips for 3.25 and no free refills.
Was our second time here after a Mirvish play. So many of the prices have gone up in just 3 weeks. Some by $1, others by $2! I was very disappointed. In this time of economic hardship, I find this action by management to be disgusting. The little vegan chocolate dessert was not worth $7, let alone $9. I won t be returning. Also, it was hard to find the turkey in the club sandwich. It should be renamed the cucumber club! And it is $19!
A great place to hang out while you wait for the movie to start. These guys have the spot bang on. Pick your tickets from TIFF. Then hang out here. Nice well ventilated restaurant serving great food. The food is not crazy expensive like other king street spots. You don t feel you are being taken for a ride. The options too are great and it does taste delicious.
Being in this area, the food is decently priced. Service was great and friendly, only thing I would say is during busy times, they don t have a dedicated host to seat customers coming through the front door. I had waited for 5 mins before a server came to seat us. For a restaurant that s run by O&B, I m very disappointed in this level of management for a simple hostess.
Appreciate their service and atmosphere - high ceiling glass walls on King St W. The food was also well made and fresh. A great place for a date or a gathering
The tourtière was horrible. Too much spice (I think nutmeg) and meat was chewy. Ate 1/4 and threw the rest in the garbage. On the other hand, butter chicken was amazing.
Ate out for the first time post-stay-at-home for Fathers Day 2021, and my wife booked O&B Canteen. The menu was unfortunately limited as the most popular items were sold out (buck-a-shuck oysters, fried chicken platter, mac and cheese) but we found several other items we wanted so it worked out. The food was tasty, the Prosecco was half-price, and the service was top notch as usual. The homemade ice cream sandwich ended our visit perfectly. Well be back again.
Great wine range + delicious food options. Ordered the fried calamari and the Buck-a-Shuck oysters. Perfectly pairs with the Leaning Post Rose.
Man, all the food was awesome. Even the fries were nice and crispy. Service was on point, food was fantastic and we just had pizza, burger, fries and drinks. Highly recommend. Best place weve been to since lockdown has eased up.
This place is terrible and the female manger is rude.
One of my favourite places in Toronto and definitely my fave on King W. Always fantastic service, I ve been a few times for larger tables and it s always perfect! Most recently we went for 50% off wine on Friday and $1 oysters. Oysters were perfect! We got the house bubbly wine and it was to die for. All of our other dishes were incredible too like the fresh mushroom soup, calamari, green bean caesar, and fish and chips! I do miss the pad thai on the menu though.
Decided to have a Sunday afternoon meal at O&B and it did not disappoint. Half priced bottle of wine and $1 oysters between 4-6 meant we left in good mood for less than we expected to pay. Service was pretty great and the patio walls are just high enough to not be interrupted by people walking along King St.
Absolutely incredible experience! Jacob was so incredibly accommodating, patient and professional with all of our dietary requirements/questions. Location was clean and felt very safe with the precautions put in place. And of course the food was GREAT - And reasonably priced as well, look forward to coming back soon!
Worst fried chicken Ive ever tasted. Server forgot our drinks. Took 30 minutes to realize I didnt want my food because he didnt check on us. Truly a horrid experience.
I went back in June The servers are very friendly and food is delicious. Its great that they have a covered patio too. I got their hard lemonade and thier spicy salmon sushi bowl.
A wide variety of foods on the menu will please all your friends. Service is very friendly and outdoor patio is comfortable. Check for buck a shuck hours if youre going for oysters!
Mediocre food, but incredible service and good ambiance
Service is great. The staff are so sweet even when they re busy. I think they can work on the portions a little bit more. Otherwise another solid O&B restaurant.
Looking for a buck a shuck place? I suggest you keep looking elsewhere - it s quite misleading here. With a purchase of 1 drink, you only get 12 oysters at the buck a shuck price. This isn t something they openly advertise unfortunately. The oysters were quite fresh although a bit too briny and fishy at times for me. Drinks were also decent. When factoring in the cost, I suggest you look elsewhere for a more transparent buck a shuck experience.
Went for brunch. Very disappointed in the quality of the food. Dont think Ill be going back.
Nice experience, food is decent.
Simplistic menu items at outrageous costs. So many better places to have brunch in the area so save yourself the trip and book something else
Decent food...nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing to recommend. If you are in the area and have no other choice hang out at O&B.
Tried the shawarma bowl and it tasted pretty well. Although the serving size was a bit too small. My friend had the shakshuka and that was delicious too.
Amazing super friendly cafe with an excellent menu
Went on a Sunday afternoon so the place was relaxed with only a few tables full. Food was typical of a greasy spoon but that suited us. The service was a bit messy as there seemed to be no organisation amongst floor staff. We had about 5 different staff tend to us which meant the order was chaotic. I ordered tea which came with no teabag and no cup. The bill was incorrect and did not reflect the meal we had. Otherwise it was fine. Perhaps a more structured approach would make this run seamlessly.
Great sweet potato tacos! seriously great. 3 stars for a Brunch visit: Service was good. but the breakfast was inconsistent and disappointing.
Great burger for lunch! Option of sweet potato fries is a healthy choice!
Great food selection lots of menu choices for vegan vegetarian and gluten free choices
I love all the O & B restaurants. I can always find something there for me.
Conveniently located in the entertainment district in the Bell Lightbox building, this eatery is exactly what you before going to see a show. Quickly and friendly service. The food was amazing. They have clearly labelled gluten free and vegan food on their menu. It was all delicious. In fact, our server was unhappy with the fact that the crust had fallen off my friends dessert when they were cutting it into the pie pan and he went back and found it for her. Eat here.
Great food, and very busy location. We had a reservation for approximately 15 people, and were seated immediately upon arrival. The menu was extensive, and there were several vegetarian options as well.
Friendly service but slow. Salads pretty solid. Good pricing. The beyond meat burger was a bit hard to eat though
Came on Wednesday evening with some friends and at outside in the patio. At the time Toronto was still not allowing dining inside as it was still during stage 2. Outside wasnt too crowded and we were spaced very well from other tables that allowed for physical distancing measures. Wearing a mask was required if you needed to go to the washroom. Floor markers lead you directly to the restrooms and also lead you back outside. We ordered a few drinks and took advantage of their buck-a-shuck promotion which starts at 2pm when you purchase a wine, beer or cocktail. I had a great time catching up with friends while sharing a couple menu items. My highlight of the night was the $1 oysters, which was a great deal if you come between Wednesday to Sunday.
Friendly service, good covid patio spacing in the evening. I think no one sat in the spot we were in previously so it was a bit dusty on the patio. But our waiter easily wiped it down without us asking. So kudos to him. Went for buck a shuck and it was just average. Drinks were standard as well, nothing spectacular but it wasnt watered down or anything so thats alright. Its not exactly known as a bar spot with crazy drinks anyways.
Excellent food and service. Top 5 meals I ever had.
Decent food, good price.
Amazing. Best oysters im had in a very long time.
I order the burger there and was not very impressed by the beyond meet burger
The avocado toast with fries and fried egg is very good!
Buck a shuck is worth it and very clean. Well organized for COVID era. Also try the calamari tacos. Definitely will visit again!
Good location poor selection staff could be more professional
Good food and nice cocktails. Service by the hostess could have been significantly better but our waiter was ok.
Food was good, nothing too spectacular. Service however was fantastic! Very friendly, accommodating, and quick service from the staff while sitting on the heated patio.
Just came for the buck a shuck but its from 2pm until close... which is unheard of!!!
Social distance between tables maintained and all servers wore masks even on the patio, so thank you. Food portions were a bit smaller but delicious!
