Thank you to all the staff at Butcher Chef for the incredible experience. First of all, we were pretty late for our reservations due to issues with the Go Train. Celebrated my husband’s birthday at this steakhouse, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience! The surf & turf is a standout, pairing succulent seafood with rich wagyu. The Alberta ribeye was seasoned to perfection, with the ideal balance of saltiness, tenderness, and a generous portion size. Can I say the mashed potatoes that come with the steak is beyond my wildest imagination? Its creaminess, richness and the slightly crispy crust make it absolutely divine!! We loved the arugula and truffle salad, which had a unique blend (though it could’ve been a bit less salty). We booked our table three weeks in advance, and Daniel’s service was exceptional. He called us beforehand, suggesting a slightly later arrival to dodge the hockey crowd. Throughout the evening, he was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. And don’t skip the cheesecake! It’s a must-try, with a unique flavor profile that leans toward the savory side. Yes, the place is on the pricier side, but for a special occasion like this, totally worth it. 🥳 We’ll definitely be back with friends to explore more of the menu!

Truly incredible experience. We celebrated our anniversary and it was magical! The food was so delicious, never had a meal so amazing. Highly recommend it for a special occasion or if you feel like having an amazing dining experience. If you appreciate a great steak and don’t mind spending a little more this will be an awesome place. They offer a great selection cuts of meat from variety of farms. I’ve been here couple times and I was impressed every time. Service is excellent, ambiance is beautiful. Corn soup is my favourite. The charcuterie plate was well put together. The corn side dish and mushrooms are very good I highly recommend them. Dessert option is good. I enjoyed the Lemon Posset. Over all I would definitely recommend this place for beautiful cuts of steak.

A modern yet classic steakhouse with phenomenal service. Attention to detail is a superb here, from the embroidered napkins to the Japanese steak knives to the constant flatware replacement (don’t get too attached to your plate because it will get replaced a few times throughout your meal). Although the quality of steak is expectedly high, do not discount the pasta. The wagyu truffle pasta was incredible. The fennel salad with the puffed rice crunch and miso dressing was also fantastic. Enjoyed a set menu on the covered patio during the rain and had a wonderful meal.

Unbelievable service and incredible food. Went there for an end of year celebration / birthday celebration with my fiancee and we were blown away by the service from the moment we stepped in to when we finished our dessert. Dont get me wrong - the steak is great and the service is great too, but its steak. Im not sure how I can justify an $800 dinner when I had steak and some sides. This restaurant has a certain vibe - either you have an expense account and you dont care how much it costs, or you have a new girlfriend that needs a mortgage payment dinner to be impressed. I did like it but not THAT much.

We went out to dinner here with our wives before watching the hockey game. The food really was exquisite, but there wasn t enough of it. The prices were also outrageous and the portions were very small. We were still hungry at the end of the dinner. The food was really tasty, but I would never come back here again. After I saw the check it felt like I just left a colonoscopy.

We ordered a 24 oz ribeye steak, and though the quality and taste was really good, I doubt that it was anywhere near 24 ounces what we got. Seemed more like 14 ounces. The black cod dish was really good, but the french fries weren t very good, they were way too thin, not like in the picture we saw of thicker fries on Google maps. And then they had too many people clearing our table between courses because all of a sudden my $35 glass of whiskey got taken away by a bus boy before I was even half finished it.

Nice looking place. I was invited in a large group unaware of cost of the place. I was a little blown away seeing 350 to 1200 steaks on a menu so I opted for something off the other parts of menu. I went with the rabbit. It was nice but not alot of flavor. Sides are ordered seperate from the meat and purchasing a side salad for 28 dollars on top of the dish was a little over the top. Anyways it was enjoyable experience but I do feel there is alot of restaurants that i know of on the food side will put this place to shame. Enjoy but dont expect something crazy for spending your paycheck to eat

We were able to get seated on a Saturday evening in the dining room. 2 of us, even though the online reservation showed only the patio was available. Perfect service, performed in an elegant way. The 8oz tenderloin was cooked to perfection, which we shared. The beet salad was not overdressed, and the roasted brussel sprouts, chefs kiss! Our desserts were tasty, delicate and plentiful. In fact all of the sides were more than enough, we carried 2 home with us. Its a perfect date night experience that we look forward to doing again.

I had a wonderful birthday experience at Butcher chef the staff made my birthday so special. The staff s hospitality doesn t go unnoticed, they are attentive and go above and beyond to give you exceptional service. The food was fantastic and had a great presentation. I will definitely be coming back again for more special dinners. Vegetarian options: There s also lots of vegetarian options and the staff can alter (mostly) any dish to your preference. One of my friends couldn t have dairy and has a gluten intolerance and they made her food specifically special so she could enjoy as well.

Took my partner here for a special birthday dinner, was an overall disappointing experience. There was a long wait for our entrées and when our steak arrived it wasn t the steak we had ordered. On calling the server back to the table and asking, he confirmed that it was the wrong steak, he offered a remake but at this point we didn t have time as we had reservations after dinner and had already waited a long time. Instead of offering any kind of discount or drinks on the house etc, the server gave us one dessert to share on the house. But we were never offered dessert menus or asked if we wanted dessert. It was just put in front of us as if it would make up for the $100 steak we didn t get. We didn t want dessert as we would be having some at the next reservation. We were short on time and as I said, didn t even want dessert, so we just ate a couple bites and left it. I didn t want to make a fuss and complain as it was my partners birthday. I did contact the restaurant afterwards but never received a response. The food itself was average and I ve eaten at much nicer restaurants for half the price in Toronto. Service felt awkward and the server made a huge mistake that should have been handled better. Forcing a dessert on us doesn t make up for not getting the food we ordered.

We selected a quiet Sunday night (a week before school started) to dine at The Butcher Chef. It was a perfect pick! Steve, our server, and his staff provided top-notch service throughout the evening. Steve gave very thorough descriptions of Canada beef to two Texans who were not knowledgeable in Canadian beef finishing practices. Presentations (nitrogen-infused berry cocktails and corn bisque, in particular) showed creativity and delivered on flavor. Our standards in beef are high; but we enjoyed our Alberta tenderloin and aged ribeye selections tremendously! Everything from the cocktails (perfect espresso martini) to the corn bisque, foie gras, steaks and sides was fabulous. Chef also sent a tasty fish crudette and rabbit tasting. First of all, I would like to thank Peony for her warm service and my wonderful evening in this restaurant. The first surprise was the complimentary appetizer. Even though it is free, the ingredients and ingredients are not behind at all. I like their salad tomato salad the most. The sweet and sour taste is very appetizing. There is a lot of food in the salad, and different ingredients have very different textures in the mouth. I really like the taste of Wagyu carpaccico . It was a bit difficult for two people to finish this dish. Although it tastes sweet and sour, it is a bit greasy overall. Suitable for three to four people to share. Octopus I think it is frozen octopus and the price is a bit high. But the octopus is relatively large and tastes chewy. My favorite is their steak. This time I chose the P.E.I Striploin rare cook recommended by a certain store clerk. 12oz is just right for the two of us. Because my boyfriend cant eat it too raw, Peony told us that we can ask the chef to brown the outside of the meat a little to keep the inside rare. At the end of the meal, I declined dessert because my stomach was so full. Peony also brought out free desserts. It s chocolate and macarons made with Australian beef butter. Since I didn t want to waste the ingredients and the restaurant s efforts, my boyfriend finished the meal instead of me. The food is perfect, the service experience is great, and the restaurant environment is great. I will visit the butcher chef again. Finally, thanks again to Peony and other staff for their service.

I was racially profiled at this eatery. I needed to use the restroom. I gently inquired if I could use the restroom, and the manager informed me that I couldnt. I wasnt told why. The manager told me that I could use the restroom at the bar across the street. I left and looked about, but I couldnt find the bar, so I walked back in and asked if I could buy something from the menu so he could allow me use the restroom. The manager on duty said no. I inquired if he was denying me services. He continued and said no. After advocating for myself, he gave the menu, made sure I chose an item, and paid for it. Before letting me go ease myself. While I was speaking he was so condescending and disrespectful. I ordered a pasta worth of $63 (please see attached ) I have never been so humiliated by anyone in my life. He was extremely aggressive and unprofessional. After I got the food i opened it in my car and noticed what I served. I immediately went back to the restaurant and dropped the meal to them without asking for a refund. I would never ever recommend anyone to eat at this restaurant!!!

What an absolutely incredible experience. My fiancé and I went here after our engagement and it could not have been better! The food was amazing, the duck and cheesecake were phenomenal. The service from Stelios was the best Ive ever had, so personable and helpful along with great attention to detail. It was a smidge loud in the restaurant but otherwise beautifully decorated and had good vibes. If you want your special days ruined and being discriminated, make sure you come to this place. The incompetent kitchen crashed a birthday cake that cost 200 dollars, said oh we are sorry and we will give you 20% discount . It was not even enough to cover the cake itself, which was unbelievably humiliating. The manager Steve came by and said 50% discount is the best I can do , when I insisted I wanted to speak to the owner, I want an apology, he said I could only call on Monday. My request of waiving the bill was called unreasonable . Oh I m pretty sure if we are not Asian customers his reaction would be different. If you are prepared to spend $1000 on a restaurant that is absolutely chaotic, racism and provides zero customer service, this is a one-stop for all .

Terrible service and racist manager! we were here to celebrate a friends birthday and they ruined the cake we bought in! Apparently some staffer bumped into the cake in the kitchen, which is a custom made cake and a very symbolic piece showing bull market for my friend whos in Finance, so as you can imagine having it literarily crashing is not a great look.The manager Steve did not show any empathy towards this horrible situation, and frankly has been quite racist about it (Im sure if we are a bunch of white folks insead of Asians well be treated very differently, I can just tell by his tone and how he treated us). He basically offered to compensate for just the cake (Which cost over $200 alone) and waive the tips (which of course we wont give anyway). When we said then you are going to lose us as customers forever, Steve basically said - be my guest. Anyway, terrible terrible experience and suffice to say we wont ever come here again.

After finding a late reservation on a Saturday night we had a meal to remember. The Butcher Chef is by far on top of my list of steak houses. Very nice atmosphere when you walk through the doors. Our table was outside on a beautiful Toronto night. 4 of us sat down for our first time experience. Experience it was. Ceviche was the first round. Presentation was 10 out of 10. The taste was 10 out of 10. Compliments to the chef. Second was a loaf of bread with some amazing toppings and a lamb reduction poured over the bread at the table 10 out of 10. On to the mains 2 of us had an American grass fed strip loin 12 oz 1 had a Australian Wagu 12 oz and 1 16 oz PEI strip loin. When the steaks came to the table they mixed up the placement. Plus brought us an extra steak which we still have no clue what it was. So the staff jumped into action. I mean full hands on deck. After realizing the mix up they insisted we start eating our food as they prepare more steaks. In total they brought us 7 steaks between 4 good sized gentlemen. Each and every cut was by far the best of the best. Instead of us eating our own steak we served them up as quarters and shared the 3 different cuts of meat. As we were ready to pack things in and leave the waiter insisted we stay for Complimentary deserts. 3 of the best deserts Ive ever tasted. My hat goes off to the Chef and the Crew at the Butcher Chef. How does this restaurant not have a Michelin star or 2

One of the best restaurant experiences I have had in the city! This beautiful hidden gem in downtown Toronto serves some of the best foods and cocktails in the city. The minimal seating allows for an intimate personalized experience. I came for the first time with a friend yesterday and made a reservation at the bar for Saturday night. The staff are incredible, with impressive high quality service. A huge shoutout to Sky (the bartender) and Mo (lead server), these two made our experience the BEST. Sky is so kind and extremely knowledgable, we asked him to surprise us based on our tastes, and he made the best cocktails. He is so so talented! Mo, was so friendly, and asked us many times if there was anything we needed or to help us with making menu choices. We had several cocktails, Skys espresso martini was fantastic and we also ordered asparagus and mushroom dishes, as well as a beautiful chocolate gateau that came with chocolate crumble and vanilla ice cream (ugh to die for)! We cant wait to come back and have dinner, and enjoy the steak and extensive wine list!

The tasting menu prepared by the talented chef at this restaurant was truly outstanding. The evening started with cocktails and drinks. My Breakfast in Paris was refreshing, delicately prepared and well presented. The first course was an appetizer combo with ceviche, sashimi and raw oyster, each creatively garnished and topped with caviar. The three distinctly different raw seafood each offered its unique texture and flavour, cleverly united by the common theme of caviar. The salad of pea shoots topped with gold flakes was fresh and pleasing. As a salad lover, I wish I could have more of that. The dressing was minimal and that allowed the flavour of the pea shoots to remain as the dominant player in each bite. Beef carpaccio with king crab salad stuffing was an absolute delight. Pairing two chilled items together this way was a stroke of genius. The presentation, texture and taste were all off the chart. Definitely one of my favourite dishes that evening. Steamed diver scallops from Nova Scotia was the next dish, and the sauce was delicate yet commanding enough to tie the protein and snow peas together. Steaming at first came across as an usual way to prepare this protein, but with scallops this fresh and flavourful, and a sauce so harmonious, steaming turned out to be the perfect preparation method. The ravioli with truffle shavings was everything one could possibly expect from a dish that highlighted truffles heavily. When I used a spoon to fold the truffle shavings into the pasta and sauce, the aroma released from the truffle was simply intoxicating. The sauce was robust and a perfect accompaniment to the pasta. I used to fancy myself as an expert in preparing slow braised short ribs until I tasted the chefs short ribs. In addition to being perfectly seasoned, the meat literally crumbled under my fork with just the slightest pressure and it figuratively melted in my mouth. Simply spectacular. The final course was a combination of three steaks: Ontario Wagyu, tenderloins and rib eye. They were served with copious quantities of grilled mixed mushrooms, hefty asparagus spears and fries. The meats were minimally seasoned to allow their natural flavours to come through. We were provided with 4 types of exotic salt to elevate the steaks. The steaks were tender and beautifully grilled. However, as good and tasty as they were, they seemed anticlimactic after the previous 7 superb courses. The service was simply outstanding. The wait staff was attentive and accommodating. The chef came to the table twice to chat as well. He was friendly and warm. It was very apparent that minute attention was devoted to everything from preparation to plating. Speaking of plating, one could not miss the pleasing visual delights that were the creative pairing of serving vessel and the food in each course. Take a look at the pictures and you will see how the plates and bowls accompanied the food perfectly in terms of shape and colours. Overall, I would rank this as one of my top 10 meals of all times. I need to come back again.

Its really delicious. Ive eaten raw beef No. 1 so far. Seared Foie Gras: Suddenly I discovered that foie gras is hard to handle. No exception. I felt there was bitterness. The liver oil itself had a lot of oil and soaked all the bread slices that were paired with it. It tasted like a greasy bite without either Foie Gras or bread aroma. Steak The last hybrid Wagyu steak in the store. It is 90% Japanese and 10% Australian. It provides three kinds of salt. You can ask to add black pepper. We choose Medium. Perfect on texture tender & juicy. It is really delicious. You can choose your own side dishes for the steak Roaster Mushroom There are several types of roasted and seasoned mushrooms. When served, there is a layer of blue flame (there are tricks again) that goes out after a while. The mushrooms are grilled and have a meaty texture. They are delicious. Asparagus The shape of this bamboo shoot is very unique. It looks very thick, but it doesn t taste bad. And the ring of puff pastry can also be eaten, so don t waste it. Truffle Raviolini The filling and sauce of Wagyu pasta are all made from Wagyu beef. Creamy and tasty Fresh black truffle is also given. I am really satisfied with this Wagyu beef meal! Three courses of desserts Daily Sorbet & Ice Cream: I chose vanilla flavor and it turned out to be yellow and the vanilla seeds were visible. Mille-Feuille: Let s see which milleleuca is better. Sorbet is paired with pineapple flavor. Milleleuca is generally a tropical fruit flavor. The mixed aroma of mango and passion fruit is good balance between sour and sweet. Cheesecake The overall shape is a milky white cheese cake. The waiter will personally spread the freeze-dried strawberry cream foam/focus on the fillings: white chocolate, strawberry and rhubarb preserves, Vanilla cream cheese, strawberry jam. You will be satisfied with it.

The place presents itself as an upscale steakhouse. Prices for the food is very high. For the price you d spend on this restaurant, you can go to any high end restaurant in Toronto that is 10x better. Two of us ordered a steak to share and a couple of appetizers with drinks came out to be over $400. At this price point, the atmosphere has to be top notch (which it isn t) the food has to be excellent (which it isn t although it was good, wasn t enough) Lastly, I tipped $55 which reflects the overall impression of the restaurant, and when the server saw the bill, he changed the attitude and mumbling multiple times that it s not fair. When I confronted him about what s not fair, he told me that he was talking to his manager even tho it was clear he was talking to me. Any problem with making $50 on a table serving few food and pouring drinks? Probably this is why the restaurant was half empty on Friday night.

My husband and I had high expectations for butcher chef and we left feeling disappointed. We don t mind paying a high price point for quality food, cocktails and service. We were underwhelmed and felt ripped off. All the cocktails were 25$ and above but there was nothing special about the mixing, tasted like lemonade to a point where we ordered raw drinks. We have had better steak, better braised beef that is actually accompanied with a side (mash or some sort of purée) for 92$ the taste and flavour didn t go with the recommended side. The server told us there would be a little bit of potato mash but there wasn t. Overall the price point doesn t match the service and food quality.

This was my second visit to the restaurant, and I couldnt help but notice a significant increase in prices. While I understand its fine dining, paying $5 for a glass of water and $30 for a side dish felt quite unexpected. Our order included one appetizer, one side, two entrees, three drinks, one dessert, and the final bill amounted to $500+ including tips. That said, the food was delicious. The Seared Foie Gras was a standout. The foie gras was perfectly seared, its richness complemented by the crispy French toast and the special sauce drizzled on the side. Each bite was a symphony of flavours, with the foie gras melting in your mouth and leaving its aromatic essence lingering on your palate. Moving on to the main course, the rabbit dish I had was incredibly tender, and the meat sauce added a perfect flavour enhancement. The meat itself was also well-marinated. We tried the sautéed mushrooms for the side. The mushrooms were deep-fried and flavorful. For dessert, the chocolate mousse was rich and creamy, a perfect wrap for our experience. Needless to say, their drinks were tasty too. Their service was also great. The staff was professional and attentive, ensuring that our dining experience was nothing short of excellent. Overall, it was an exceptional dining experience, but I may not return for another visit again considering the price. Its easily 300$ per person, the review sites say 50$. They charge you 33$ for water even if you say just regular water. The steak wasnt even that great, the keg is a much better experience with better food. The best thing was the ceaser salad but the bacon meat grossed my wife out. Honestly we felt we wasted 600$+ and it felt kinda scammy because we walked in expecting a much lower menu prices. The steak was literally cold when it arrived, we waited over an hour. We had reserved a table for 6 people for shortly after Christmas. It was our first visit to Butcher Chef and we were greeted very warmly. A service member brought us to our large table. He introduced himself briefly, handed us the menus and gave us brief advice. We were happy to take advantage of his recommendation that we could order different dishes and share them. So we ordered various starters, main courses and desserts. First we received a greeting from the kitchen (amuse beech). This was a small beef tartare on pumpkin puree with truffles. As a starter we had the Caesar salad, Australian Wagyu beef carpaccio, tuna and A5 beef tartare, with home-baked bread and butter. The individual dishes were fantastic and we were looking forward to the main course. We had Wagyu beef ravioli in a truffle jus. The taste was incredible. We also had three different steaks (including an A5 Kobe steak), one of which was better than the other. They had the perfect cooking point and an incredible taste of their own. You could choose from three different types of salt. The side dishes included a potato gratin and fries. The Bernaise sauce that was also served was perfect. To round things off there was a large selection of desserts. These included a pumpkin spice cheesecake, a Bailays cake, baked Alaska ice cream and other creations. If youre wondering which one was the best, we couldnt decide because each of these desserts was delicious in its own right. Our waiter accompanied us perfectly throughout the evening and we felt very comfortable. The performance and quality of the various dishes from the kitchen were also at the highest level. As you can see from this detailed review, we were absolutely thrilled and we will remember this evening for a long time. Many thanks to all Butcher Chef employees for the unforgettable experience.

Worst service ever provided by our waiter Steve. He rushed us through every course. Once you have less than 1/3 of food left on a plate, he came over to point at the dish and ask you to enjoy the last bite so he could take the plate away. When he tried to serve us a side dish, he dropped some mushrooms on the table, and then re-picked it up and serve those mushrooms onto your plate!!? We were all watching him while he exhibited this ridiculous behavior. He also rushed us into paying for the bill before we even ask for the bill or the machine, twice! How dare he pre-selected the highest level of tips when he handed over the machine?? Just absurd. Not my first time dining here, food was good, but this whole waitering thing just threw me off!!

I don t even know where to start. This was top 5 restaurant experiences I ve ever had in my life. It s most definitely deserving of a Michelin star (or even two), I ve been to starred restaurant that aren t even close. Went there for the first time a couple of weeks ago to celebrate a great milestone in my career, and haven t been able to shut up about it ever since. As we walked through the discreet door, we were welcomed by the staff and entered a sophisticated room with an upscale steak-house decour and ambiance, with very few tables (the place seats 30ish people) - very intimate and cool. To say that Daniel served us would be an insult to his role. He was a sommelier, an entertainer, a true host. He put together a special tasting menu for us, advised on which of the wines we brought should be served first and with which course, walked us through the different dishes with a je ne sais quoi that had us pay attention to his every word. He elevated the experience to the nth degree with an obvious passion and enjoyment for his job. We started with a oysters which were super fresh and flavorful, with a few different sauces. Then they brought a soft bread with caramelized onion and beef sauce that was fantastic. Then a brassica salad which was good, but definitely at the bottom of the ladder. After that it was just knock-out after knock-out. Chicken two-ways, one piece roasted which was tender and juicy which had an amazing sauce, and one piece fried that redefined what i thought was possible for fried chicken. A game dish with a mix of a great duck breast with crackling skin topped with foie gras, plus a roasted rabbit and rabbit sausage combo which blew everyone away. The raviolini with wagyu beef filling was unbelievable, and the truffle (freshly sliced in front of you) just took it to a different level. The wagyu shortrib was great, just falling apart as you bite into it and punching you right back with all those sweet and fatty explosions of taste in your mouth. Then we finished with a selection of 4 or 5 different steaks, one better than the next - frankly i don t even remember which (the selection of steaks is huge) because I was too drunk at this point, but i do know they were all stuff of dreams. Sides had throughout the meal: pastrami carrots were unbelievable, sauteed mushrooms and crab & spinach were amazing, even the fries were very good. The chef was even kind enough to make substitutions for a person who couldn t eat beef, replacing it with items such as scallops, octopus and lobster which were all impeccable. To finish we had a selection of desserts: white chocolate cheesecake, chocolate gateaux, mont blanc. All great, but the cheesecake takes the crown. Obviously all of this means it s extremely expensive - even though we did byob, we paid north of $1000 each, but if you re looking to celebrate a special moment in your life, look no further. Note that cork-fee is $100 per bottle, so it s really only worth it if you re playing with bottles that cost more $200 at lcbo - honestly anything less would not jive with the rest of the meal, so it d be well worth it.

Its the first time Ive spent over a $1000 on dinner , and did not enjoy a single thing I ate. Nothing was good. Jacobs and Harbour 60 are much better! They sat us outside in an enclosed space with no ambience, no lights, it was literally a glassed outdoor balcony. Steak were not seasoned well, not salted properly , unevenly cooked, and cold when served at the table. Ceaser salad was worst than what you would get at The Keg. Overall, all of us were pretty disappointed. Not what we expected from a $$$$ restaurant. Service was good tho, and drinks were okay.

To my great fortune, I was invited to join a group headed here for dinner after a work event. Without a doubt it s one of the best steakhouses in the city. My new favourite steak house. I am very grateful to have been able to have a dining experience at the Butcher Chef. Fantastic selection of steaks, perfect sides and an awesome wine list. Kicked off with a lobster and caviar amuse bouche. My bouche was amused and ready for more. Started with oysters for appetizers. Really good choice with the Malpeques. Accompanying sauces are all great but the jalapeño cucumber is by far the best match. Tried the Argentinian ribeye and it melts in your mouth. Also went with a Chicago finish to get the perfect crust, flavourful and perfectly executed without going to the point of burnt/bitter. Also got the PEI sirloin, so good I m going to look for PEI steak from now on. You get the real beefy taste of sirloin without any of the gamey finish you sometimes get with this much flavour and cut. Both great recommendations were perfect from David who provided warm and friendly service all night. The sides showed the range of the kitchen. The shisheto peppers and shrimp take your meal to the surf and turf realm while adding a flavourful punch of the peppers that stand up to the steak. The mushrooms have that great table side fire presentation. Really modern twist on mushrooms that elevate it out of the the boring steak and mushroom combo, it could be a stand alone dish. This was my second visit to Butcher Chef, and it wasn t bad. The service is always exceptional and our waiter made sure we were taken care of, despite the fact that we had to wait a bit longer for our food than normal. If you re visiting this spot, make sure you like to eat steak and meat. We tried mainly fish dishes this time around. The Tuna & A5 tartare and the Shishito & Shrimp were amazing dishes. The other dishes we ordered weren t bad, but I d stick to the meat. With that being said, the plating is an 11/10. Each dish felt too pretty to eat. We also were served complimentary desserts. The cheesecake was unreal and something you shouldn t skip out on. Presentation and flavor was very memorable. The outdoor patio is also a vibe. If you re looking for a more upscale, chill vibe in Toronto that isn t too crowded, this is a great spot.

Don t dine here! If you re reading this review, you re probably contemplating if you should try this steakhouse, my suggestion is please don t!! If you want to skip the details and get straight to the point, the best high end steakhouse in the 6 is Jacob & Co. Go there instead, and NOT here.There are plenty of nice steakhouses and this is not one of them. The interior of the restaurant is small, dimly lit, with minimal seating. The patio looks like the patio of a Jack Astor s. The prices are very high for what you get. The good: drinks, bartender, cool toilets. I didn t come to spend $500+pp on toilets! The bad: the vibe- it s not hip or cool, if that s what you re looking for, go somewhere else. The food was mediocre at best. Overdone, overpriced, under seasoned steak. Fishy seafood. Apps were meh. Limited sides. The ugly: The service. Inattentive, slow, and awkward. We were served by Steve, who I believe is the manager (shocking IKR?!). He was unfriendly, slow, and had a nonchalant attitude. Probably because we weren t buying $1000 bottles of wine?! Waters were not topped up during the entire dining experience. We finally asked someone else who came 10 minutes later. He looked disgusted when we said we d take regular water. Scoffed when my girlfriend said she wasn t having a drink, didn t check in during our dining experience. How is he in charge here. In sum- please don t walk, run, run away from here and pick another dining experience.

Overall, an excellent experience. Considering the food, the service, the environment, and just the atmosphere created by the staff. The food: The preperation, consistency between dishes, and the quality were all top tier. We got exactly what we asked for, and we were provided all the information needed to make that decision. We were also given some additional dishes to try, and they were also great - maybe it was chosen based on our orders, or maybe at random. Either way, it was excellent. That said, if you are just looking for food and none of the other factors of the over all experience, I would not say the price tag is justified. The service: Sebastian and the team were wonderful. Kept tabs on everyones needs made us feel comfortable throughout the dining experience. Very knowledgeable about the menu items and helped us through with all the questions we had - also provided suggestion that they can only know with experience. The only minor complaint we had was that the main courses came a little too long after the appetizers had been finished. Hunger kicked in very quickly after the appetizers. Maybe its for a better experience down the line? Or maybe its some organizational oversight. In the end it didnt take too much away (A personal complaint would be that the 24oz dry aged ribeye came very bare and did not need additional salt - it would have been nice to have more options to tailor the flavour in addition to the dry-aged funk). The environment: We were seated outside in an area well suited for our larger party. There was plenty privacy and the setting was well decorated. The spacing between guests were enough to have some privacy regardless of where you are seated, but I dont recall boothes being a thing here. The inside is a bit more calm than outside, given we are in downtown toronto. Nothing can stop the occasional sirens and loud people on the streets. Once again, not enough to ruin the experience. Overall: We had a great time, and thats all that matters in the end. Its definitely not a place Id come regularly, but its on my list of places to visit for special occasions for sure. I visted this time with a party of 8, so smaller parties may have different experiences. Id recommend this place for the whole package, but would not if food/cost are the only considerations.

I recently dined at The Butcher Chef, and I must say it was an exceptional experience. For appetizers, we started with the Caesar salad, which had a delightful surprise with the bacon; it added a unique and delicious twist to a classic dish. The Tuna & A5 Tartar was simply amazing and a real highlight. We also enjoyed a cocktail to start the evening. I had the Southside Lime with Roku Gin and mint, and it was incredibly refreshing and complemented the appetizers perfectly. Moving on to the main course, we had the game selection, which included rabbit sausage, duck breast, and confit. Each element was cooked to perfection, and you could tell that they used different pans for each, showcasing their culinary expertise. Should be a 5 star! The food and service is amazing- no complaints whatsoever. We had apps, salads a couple mains (Game/KC Strip-loin)and the steak was perfect. Here is my main complaint- The prices are very high, especially for alcohol. I can understanding paying a premium for food quality and presentation but I have a problem with restaurants gauging for wine and spirits. A normal Old Fashion should not cost $34 and the only CAB by the glass option is $44 for a 5 oz. If you bring your own wine it s a $100 corkage which is the highest fee (by double) that I have ever heard of and quite ridiculous. Rely on your food quality and service and we will pay a premium for it, but downtown restaurants should stop with 500% margins when they are only opening a bottle and pouring. It s a shame that after an amazing experience I m left with this feeling of getting ripped off on booze.

One fine night, we decided to give this place a try because I basically live above this place. No reservation, just walked in. I got the feeling it was a bit fancy, but when the hostess said do you want to see a menu first, or are you comfortable , I was sure it was fancy and a little bit concerned about my wallet. Nonetheless, the t-bone steak was fantastic, and the cheese cake was memorable. The service was really top-notch. The sommelier was on hand to help with the wine selection, and our server knew everything about the beef they were serving. Turns out they have a pretty thick handbook (with pictures) of everything about the beef they serve. They are serious about their meat. The cheesecake was no everyday cheesecake, either. This cheesecake had extra flair. It comes to your table with smoking cold nitrogen. For a walk-in, it was a really amazing experience and totally worth it.

My wife went in first and I went to park the car. So she was sitting at our table for about 10mins before I came back from parking. I stood at the reception/front desk for about 5 minutes and no one came to greet me. I did not know where my wife was sitting. So I just walked inside myself and saw my wife at the patio. There are servers walking around and just ignored me. After we sit down for 10 minutes, there was no one came to us for water or even a hello. So my wife was sitting there for 25 minutes, without any water or anything. Finally, I did a big wave, and this guy noticed me. The chef was walking around here and there greeting other people like we were transparent. There were also other two gentle men dressing in suite and walked around here and there. I did not know what they were doing. Give me some water at least. My wife said to me, I guess other guests were more important than us. That was not cool.... Finally we decided to try the tasting menu. Without even told us what would be on the menu, he just told me that the tasting menu is expensive, like I could not afford it..... I smiled at him.....really I wanted to slap on his face and show him how much tax I paid last year. Terrible experience for the first half an hour. The food, I have got to be honest, they were amazing. Beautifully presented and prepared. I got the bill and added 15% tips for the food and the girl who actually served us. She was the only person nice to us. We left our table walked through the patio to the exit door. No one said thank you/bye/have a good night... Thank you for your hospitality and keep treating your customers like this.

I have been wanting to try this steakhouse since they opened a couple years ago and must say what an experience! Extremely bad service! Horrible nightmare! I can t believe I spent 200+ per person here and I was treated this way. I was suspecting if there is racial discrimination. There are people wearing T-shirts and shorts and slippers and they ask me to take off my cocktail hat. And throughout the dinner the waitress has dropped either the utensils or plates on the floor right in front of us for THREE times! Waiters or waitresses are poorly trained and even the manager shows NO Apology and speak in very bad attitude!

After touring about Ontario for the past few weeks we thought we would splurge and have a crazy good meal out with our 10 month old. The staff was super accommodating bringing a legit high chair (one found in a home as opposed to the wood ones). They created a meal for our little lady off the menu and brought it out promptly. We had the Tuna/beef tartare which was amazing although small in terms of portion for price- also brought out promptly. The wheels fell off after that- our meal took well over an hour to be delivered and then only in spurts- Tortellini- incredible but tiny portion and then our mains came out 30 + minutes afterward- scallops and chicken. The meals were tasty- there is no denying- but the price for portion is extremely high and the service was insanely slow. For this kind of money, I expect next level service and good portions. I definitely would head to a different restaurant on our next visit to Toronto.

Charged $39.00 for 3 bottles of plain water ? I thought they were offering me just regular tap water they failed to inform me that . The price wasnt listed even on the website menue $ 16.00 for a small French fries . $48.00 for a small appetizer of corn and octopus. $24.00 for a Pea shoot and fennel salad . And $ 178.00 for a steak that I doubt very much weighed more than 16 OZ . All steaks come with NOTHING else . You will have to pay for anything additional . I had no idea that Id be out almost 40 bucks for a few glasses of water!! Would I recommend this place to people ? Would I ever step foot in there again ? Never . I should have walked out as soon as I saw the menue . If your in the mood though ... They do have authentic and properly certified Japanese steak for only $ 1,120.00 Have at er Luckily for me Im only out $ 400.00 including tip , taxes and parking I didnt appreciate the man that was presenting the bill payment system hovering above my wife as she was entering her sensitive credit card information and pin. She felt he was very intrusive and also it appeared as though he was making sure that a proper tip amount was being entered. Please tell your staff to give people the space they need when they are using their bank cards and credit cards its very rude to stand besides somebody watching them so closely. 4.0/5 We started with the Caesar salad followed by the main course. The Caesar salad was okay, nothing special. As for the steak, we tried the A5 Miyazaki and the 24oz dry ribeye. The meat was juicy and the sides we ordered (sautéed mushrooms and potato/leek gratin) complemented the steak well. The food is good, although it wasn t anything impressive for the price. I m rating it a star less as the service was not up to par and the atmosphere was less than relaxing. I had called in advance letting them know that we would be 15 mins late. I was told then that they could not move our reservation as they needed the table back within 2 hrs of our reservation time for the next party. I was a bit taken aback but I understood. We rushed to get there only to find that our table was not ready so we were seated at the bar until a table freed up 15 mins or so later. We were then moved to a table, and weren t really sure who our server was initially as he never introduced himself. He was pleasant but was not very knowledgeable in answering questions about the menu, and he was quite consumed with entering our order in his iPad. There were servers rushing back and forth from the kitchen entrance near us, and the other guests were rather loud it was not a relaxing dining experience. We spent around $800 for the two of us yet didn t come away feeling quite satisfied. Nothing memorable, unfortunately. We won t be back for this reason

Came here for my golden jubilee with a few amazing friends. Personally this is easily one of my top 3 restaurant visits all time. Service was friendly, attentive and prompt. The food, flavours, plating and presentations were elite and amazing. Lots of depth, color, dynamic, deep and rich flavours, variety of textures and pleasing to the palate and eyes, dishes. Top notch chef grade knives like Shun and other brands for cutlery. Global offering of steaks. Plenty of choices from appetizers to dessert. This is a restaurant that serves up only the best. I had an absolute brilliant dinner out after a long and dreadful pandemic that saw no eat-in service for a long time. If you can afford eating here, even just once, you will find your expectations will be exceeded.
