This place is special. I’ve lived in this neighborhood for 6 years and this was my first time here. Food was very good and very reasonably priced. They really care to treat you to a good time. Plus a martini is only $10!

My partner and myself have been to Chef's House a several times, and never been disappointed. Today we introduced our friend, and we are happy that she had a great experience, and enjoyed the delicious and flavorful menu. Amazing service! All students working their hardest, doing their best. Our server, Abdul, was very attentive, polite and friendly. We really enjoyed his service! Complimentary to the chef that made Port Wine Poached Pear! Our friend loved so much the dessert, and she ordered second portion of Port Wine Poached Pear. My friend and I planning to come back next month to be our Christmas celebration. Big thank you to the Hospitality Manager! I am sorry, we missed his name.

A very charming experience overall. The food was lovely, nicely presented, service exceptionally attentive, great atmosphere. Was it the perfect execution? Of course not, but the effort and care from everyone there certainly was. I'd be happy to come back anytime, plenty of intriguing options on the menu, and they all cared that we enjoyed ourselves and had a great experience.

First let me say that I ate at this place on an evening after a long day and I was starved. There is a pretty good selection of appetizers and main dishes with a small selection of desserts. The meal was presented beautifully but I was expecting more (remember I was starved!!). Delicious combination of tastes on 1 plate. Love the environment! The restaurant looks like a hard loft with a large but not overpowering kitchen. Tastefully designed, the space is bright and "high end". I had 2 different people serve the drinks and the meal. The server of the meal didn't seem too interested in our presence or what she was doing. Same for when the plates were removed. Everyone else was exceptional, even the staff that didn't serve our table. An experience that should be had by all. Kudos to George Brown for offering such a culinary experience. This is not the place to go to on an empty stomach. However it is the ideal place if you want to experience a well-curated meal in an outstanding restaurant.

I recently dined at Chefs’ House and it was an enchanting experience with an elegant ambiance and a diverse, flavorful menu. Each dish was beautifully presented and expertly crafted, and the staff provided impeccable service. Especially my server Chloe gave me an excellent dining experience. Overall, Chefs’ House delivered a phenomenal dining experience that I highly recommend

5/5 plating, and the appetizers were delicious! The bread and fancy butter was a nice surprise too. The beef main course was not quite what I was hoping - a bit dry for my taste. They did offer to add more gravy or make a new one for me. I didn't take them up on their offer but it was nice that they offered! I'd happily go back and try a different main.

This restaurant is 5/5 in my book across the board. The restaurant is a training ground for the culinary and hospitality students at George Brown but let me tell you that the food and service easily surpass most of professionally run restaurant. Nothing in this restaurant suggest that it is a trial restaurant. The food is a highlight. Each dish (Chicken Pabili) is cooked to perfection and seasoned well. The crisp of the chicken skin, the balance with the black bean is a wow. The salad is arranged leaf by leaf. The soup looks like an art canvas. I mean.. this restaurant can easily match any fine dining in Toronto. The service is polite, quick and responsive. Each tables were perfectly set. One of the best service for restaurant we encountered. Overall, it is one of the more unique restaurants we had in Toronto at a very affordable price. The students in this program will go far in their career with this much attention and care put into their craft.

Amazing bang for your buck. A meal like this in a full service restaurant would at least by double. Staff tries very hard accommodate you. Nice to see that everyone is in training. Favourite dish was the sea-bream, which was very tender with a great sauce. Soup was also great and the addition of chili sauce gave it a nice spice. Focaccia bread was fresh and soft on the inside and the house made flavoured butter was really tasty

I attended the Chefs house for a dinner in conjunction with Big head winery and I must say I was blown away by the food and service provided by these young people. I had heard George browns culinary program was excellent but I had no idea the advanced techniques this next generation of chefs were learning. I was very impressed all the food was excellent and well prepared. The temperatures and textures of each dish were perfect. I ve eaten in many high end places and the chef house delivered a meal as good as any that I ve had in terms of technique and preparation. I expected to see at least a broken sauce or two from the students but they were on point that evening. The service delivered by the students was also excellent

We were there for dinner. You have to be aware that this is a restaurant run by trainees. So you should be able to ignore small mistakes. On our evening there was a relatively fresh service team at the start. You could tell by the uncertainty. But they did an almost perfect job. It was more about a lack of self-confidence and not about inability. The students will certainly achieve this security quickly. They can do it just a little more self-confidence. As for the food itself: excellent! For starters we had the tartare. Perfectly seasoned and prepared like in a Michelin star restaurant. For the main course we had lamb and duck. Both prepared perfectly. The lentils as a side dish were also on point. So not mushy and not hard, perfectly cooked as it needs to be. The meat was perfect. And here too the plates were beautifully prepared. The dessert was also excellent. I chose the pumpkin cheesecake. A poem. The ambience is very nicely designed. I was lucky and got a table with a view of the kitchen. The price-performance ratio? Too good. Its very cheap. Well, they dont really have to make a profit, but I still found it very cheap. I was happy to leave a tip. This is then paid into a fund for the students. Would I go again? In any case! Next time Im in Toronto Ill plan a visit to this restaurant.

This was my 11th or 12th for dinner at this restaurant. The quality of the food was the worst of all my visits. This was Summerlicious, the choices were very limited. Two of us ordered duck breasts and in both cases the maple glaze was undetectable. The fat side was well rendered and medium rare but the bottom third was Raw. Chewy and flavorless. The vegetarian course was a p risotto

I came down from Vaughan during a torrential down pour for a 1pm reservation. I tried calling them at 12:50pm to say that the subway had literally broken and I was walking. They called me back at 1:14pm when I was one block away to say that the kitchen at had already closed and I could not come. Why do you take a 1pm reservation if the kitchen closes less than 15 minutes later, not notify guests about that in advance, and not allow any leeway during a massive rainstorm that cripples the TTC?

We came here for winterlicious as part of a birthday celebration. We made sure that we had a reservation because this place is pretty busy. This restaurant is run entirely by George Brown culinary students, yet there were not many mistakes and we were served with care. There is complementary focaccia, onion roll bread, and butter. For the first course we got the terrine de campagne and the malt glazed smoked salmon. It was well-plated and prepared, but these dishes were all meh to us. For mains we all got the sea bream grenobloise, served with fondant potato and Swiss chard. This was a comfort food dish and was also well prepared. For dessert, we all got the Meyer lemon tart. Since it was my sisters birthday, they wrote a message on her plate. Overall the food was good but not outstanding, I probably would not pay full price for these dishes. We also got some peach Bellini, which was a great price. In fact, all their alcoholic beverages are affordable. Servers were very attentive. Wash rooms are downstairs and theres also a private room you can book for a party.

March 22, 2024

The food was incredibly expensive for what I got! For $20 I got a can of Coke and a salad. I had to ask for a little wedge of bread with it! Crazy. The service wasn t great. We wanted a sandwich and the person at that booth just shrugged and said they didn t have any. To top it all off there were thieves in the places and someone stole my wallet right out of my bag! Nobody on staff seemed to care much that this happened in their establishment and I had to get firm with staff to announce it to get any help at all. Will definitely avoid going back here!

February 22, 2024

The food is amazing.. however, despite making reservations in December...my reservation was cancelled. This has happened to me 4 times. I will no longer be trying this restaurant.

Winterlicious is out and The Chef s House did an amazing job! It was super delicious and very very affordable! $35 for 3 course meal! It was our first time visiting and we would definitely recommend anyone to try it. Our server made us feel very welcome and they did a phenomenal job. They kept the food and drinks flowing all the time. Their cocktails are delicious. I tried their paper plane and it was spot on. For my appetizer I had the Jerusalem artichoke soup for a for my main dish I chose the Chicken pibil and finished the meal with the sticky toffee pudding. As this establishment is run by the George Brown students I can honestly say it was an absolute delight. They also do not accept gratuity - if you do leave a tip it goes towards the college and helps with eduction funding.

Wow! It was incredible! We got in and it was so nice to see so many students cooking and learning, but the food was amazing. We went for Winterlicious and we were served a three course meal, consisting of whatever we wanted off the menu! We got the Terrine de Campagne, a sort of Pate with brioche toast for appetizers, as well as the Artichoke soup, which was really tasty. For Entrees we got the Chicken Pibil, which was kind of a Mexican mix of beans and guacamole and some other combinations to make a cohesive dish, as well as the Sea Bream with Grenobloise, which was a nice seafood dish with a nice sauce, and then for dessert we got one of each, a Meyer Lemon Tart, a Chocolate Creme Brulee and Sticky Toffee Pudding. The presentation of all the dishes were perfect and super intriguing. The servers were super nice and paid a lot of attention to what we needed, as well as picking our plates up soon after we were done with a course. Great experience and we cant wait to go back!

Visited to try their winterlicious menu. Food and plating were great and nice customer service but there is some room for improvement. We had charred broccolini salad and terrine de champagne. Loved to eat terrine de champagnr with salad. For our main meal, we had sea bream and chicken pibil. I personally dont really like black beans but as a sauce for the meat, it was okay. We had lemon tart and chocolate creme brulee, which was the most popular choice. I want to try their sticky toffee pudding next time. Overall, I would recommend this place to others

My family and I went there for Valentine s Day. Our server did not understand how to take an order properly by asking the right questions. I understand that this is a teaching situation, however, I don t appreciate the rudeness of our waitress. I had asked for a bottle of wine, she said absolutely she left the table with everyone s drink orders. Came back 20 minutes later I asked her if the one was coming she said oh I m not sure if we have that. So I told her don t worry about it. If you don t have it I ll take this other one I pointed to it and she put the order in. Another 15 minutes went by she brought the wine to the table did not show me the bottle to ensure that it was the correct one. She also did not know to pour out a sample so I could taste for the quality. For the rest of the duration of the meal, she ignored our table. Our food was not hot when it came to the table. The floor manager ended up looking after us. I made sure that I complemented everyone that helped out, especially the busboy. The chefs house used to be a wonderful place to go , the portions are smaller. The food quality is not up to par as it used to be. For example, the crème brûlée was not a fine dusting of caster sugar. It was a disc of hard candy. For these reasons we will not be going back. I hope that the management reads this And adjusts what s going on in the restaurant.

The Chefs House (a student run restaurant) is one of those neighbourhood gems that isnt always on the radar, even for the locals, but is highly recommended must to visit for lunch, or a fine dining dinner experience. The 2 oz cocktails are reasonable priced and delicious - we enjoyed a margarita and an old fashioned - but if youre AF, sober or sober curious, the Lavender Fizz option is for you). For appetizers we enjoyed the Burrata & Roasted Plum at a reasonably priced $14 and Crispy Cod Cakes $11. Both were absolutely delicious recommended (but were pretty confident whatever your choice, you wont be disappointed). Portions are perfect and perfectly satisfying. For our mains, we had the (vegetarian) Channa Chat ($18) and Roasted Sea Bass. I was originally torn between the House Made ravioli and Channa Chat but went with the latter and glad I did, as its THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER TASTED (but you do have to be okay with heat and spice). I cant recommend this dish enough - seriously. This is something Ill crave and return for. For those who arent afraid of carbs, the rolls that get served with dinner, albeit simple, will knock your socks off. We doubled up on them - they were so good. Unfortunately we skipped dessert (we were full) but they do have 3 offerings that are sure to please as well. This place literally does everything very well and you can taste the passion of these Chefs in the food. If youre thinking of going to The Chefs House, although your food experience will be one of fine dining, dress how you like. Some people are casual and some a little more dressed up, all will fit in and be welcome. It can be a drop by, or special occasion. Pro Tip: Pay attention to the hours. This is student run and is a weekday (Monday to Friday) 5:30pm to 8:00pm seating. But try and fit it in, we highly recommend it and you wont regret it! Thanks Chefs House (and Chefs) we will be returning and cant wait to visit to try Lunch.

its a cooking school but the service is bad. But its not the boys fault but certainly those who didnt teach them how to serve at the table and how to behave as waiters in a restaurant. For food, sometimes mixing too many elements leads to dishes where you lose the flavor of the main dish. Location: the environment is warm and inviting but the entrance door that opens onto the main hall is a disaster, a lot of cold air enters

Somewhat unusual experience. The place looks nice, almost upper-scale, but it is a training restaurant for future cooks and restaurant managers. The service was a bit awkward and a bit too intense but not bad at all. The food is ok for the price, dont expect it to be haute cuisine but thats not what this restaurant is about. I think it is worth trying if your expectations are reasonable and you want to eat inexpensively in a stylish dining room, although theres somewhat of a dissonance between the quality of the meals and the decor.

The Chefs House is always a delight. This George Brown-run resto is the opportunity for the schools hospitality and culinary program students to put their learnings into action. You can see teams of chefs being shown techniques on the floor, and the serving staff are led by a maître d who is always on point. The food in this restaurant is a bit more upscale, but youll experience a lovely lunch or dinner at a nice price. Wait staff are very attentive. I enjoy bringing people here for a business lunch as its an exceptional experience to share with others who might not know it, and to also support the growth and development of the students. While you dont have to, you should plan for all 3 courses. Save room for dessert! Vegetarian options: The restaurant, even though it offers a limited menu, aims to provide several options to satisfy a number of palates and requirements. I noticed more than one vegetarian offering. They do update their menus online so you may want to have a look before you visit. Parking: Its downtown Toronto. Theres always construction in the summer plus this area is impacted by King Street Closures. Still, I did manage to find. Green P spot on the street while my colleagues opted for the paid parking garage across the street from the entrance. Wheelchair accessibility: The facility is accessible with one area of caution; the entrance is just a wee bit tight getting in. Curb ramps were present, and push button entrance doors. Inside an elevator can take you from the main floor to the lower level for the accessible restrooms, or the upper floor for the event space.

Awesome idea! You have the opportunity to know what students are doing while you support local talent. Food was very good executed and nice plated. We felt a little overwehlmed because of the large number of students working in the restaurant; I think this could lead to misunderstandings and poor service. Food

This hidden gem is an unbelievably great restaurant that deserves 6 stars! It is associated with the culinary school at George Brown University. It is located in a superbly renovated old building, with many modern and thoughtful touches The food is absolutely superb and incredibly tasty, with many flavours complimenting each other in a dish. The service is very attentive and friendly. They have a wine list, featuring several different Canadian/Ontario wines. Overall, a very good dining experience!

What a gem! My husband and I fresh off the plane for our first night in Toronto foodie heaven and we were lucky enough to discover this lively and lovely little restaurant. Creative and tasty cooking, excellent service, local wines, unpretentious and pleasant atmosphere. I hardly ever give 5 Stars for anything, but The Chefs House richly deserved them all!

Had a wonderful experience at The Chef s House. Our server was a friendly student-in-training who provided excellent service. The cocktails were delicious and very affordable compared to Toronto-prices. The food & dessert were exquisite. The menu is limited but tasty. There was a mix-up with one of our orders but the manager quickly fixed it & gave us the second item, without charging us. You can also watch your meal being prepared on the screen, which was fascinating. 10/10

Had not been for awhile. Every dish was a pleasant surprise. Interesting inventive menu and ingredients had me googling a few although the wait staff very informative and very attentive service. Very reasonably priced. Smaller menu (available in advance on line), appropriately portioned and creatively plated. Menu changes every 7 weeks. Dont trust their on line reservation system if it tells you they are full as it can be wrong. Phone and check. I would go back more than once in the 7 week rotation.

I finally got a chance to come down and try the winterlicious menu at the chefs house. I got the three course option, which was a lot of food and the presentation was beautiful. What I really liked was that you can combine items with the winterlicious menu and the featured chef menu. I wasn t I really wowed by the winterlicious menu this year as I had the smoke salmon as an appetizer and the grilled pork chops for my main dish. However from the featured Italian menu by Jason I really enjoyed the dessert, the Butterfly Pea Blossom Gelato, Ricotta Cake, with Gooseberries. I thought it was unique and enjoyed every bite, thought the flavours really paired well. Check them out when your in the area and sad that winterlicious is over this year.

There is no seating indoors. They have some seating outdoors. Support local students! Previous review... A wonderful luncheon experience. Really enjoyed the ambience the food and the service.
