Local craft beers and upscale spins on rustic pub favourites, served in a charming and spacious setting
Nice spot! Was surprised at the mayo like consistency of the hollandaise sauce on the benny. It was okay but, absolutely did not look appetizing. Buttermilk pancakes we're really good though!
Excellent place for brunch! Delicious and reasonable price. Not that much variety of the food menu when compare with the beverage. Btw love the vibe of this restaurant.
Nice place to have a good meal. Menu selection covers a good variety. Place is bright (though you may not know it from the outside), clean and spacious. We ordered the fish tacos and the fried chicken meal - no complaints!
Review is based on brunch. I ordered the huevos rancheros. The person I was with ordered the standard breakfast(eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes) and pancakes. We also ordered a mimosa and an old fashioned. The breakfast was pretty delicious. However do note that the huevos rancheros is very small in portion. Had I known it was small, I would have gotten the typical breakfast. The pancakes were also good but they weren’t served with syrup. The old fashioned was not good and not worth it. Get a mimosa or beer instead.
Seriously incredible brunch! The eggs benny was cooked perfectly, the breakfast burger was so good that when I was taking a bite the smell was the only thing that rivalled the taste. Banana pancakes were gooey in the middle in the best way possible. Dan the bartender was great! 10/10 would come back!
Quite a pleasant evening spent here with friends. Really liked the paratha eith feta cheese dip and the truffle fries were decent. The nachos were not bad, but nothing special. Very good selection of craft beer with a lot of styles and breweries. Service was friendly and efficient
Went here for a work Christmas dinner! It was an amazing experience and atmosphere! Servers were very knowledgeable and excellent at suggesting items on the menu! I recommend going here casually or formally for any event! Truffle fries are a must try, great starters and tastes amazing! Chicken wings are not worth 18 dollars for the size of the wings very small. Burger was delicious and the goat cheese salad with added chicken is a must try!
The service provided was exceptional! The waitress attending our table was incredibly friendly and attentive. Although the food was good, it could have been less salty and a bit less dry. Additionally, the ambiance was adorned with fascinating vintage items that added an interesting touch to the overall experience.
This place unbelievable l went in for takeout l said to the guy l wish to order fish and chips to go and l will wait outside he asked why l told him l have a ostomy bag and lam leaking l dont want to sink up your permiss he said sit at the bar its ok asked me if l needed the washroom l said no but thankyou l had a couple of beers waiting for my order he was very pleasant and accommodating and he was able to smell my order and said nothing l wish all restuarants were like this as per food outstanding the quality is very good the count large l will always go back check it out you wouldnt be disappointed John Krievins
happy local place. Sunday brunch...short menu but good variety
*Brunch Experience* My partner and I just moved to the area and have been looking for a new local brunch place to frequent. Unfortunately our first visit to The Commoner will be our last. As someone who has spent over 15 years in the F&H industry, I am usually very forgiving with a Saturday Brunch. This is not one of those cases. We were greeted and sat within minutes, per our reservation. Received coffee, water & food in a timely fashion - but the service stopped there. We ordered the standard breakfast & breakfast sandwich. The potatoes on both plates were cold (not room temp, cold) to the touch and chewy. For a $20 breakfast, I expected my toast to at least be buttered. It was not. And also cold to the touch. This would have easily been remedied had our server checked on us even one time but we instead got to watch him prioritize people who were drinking. No coffee top up, not a pepper shaker offered, not even a do you have everything you need? . Our finished plates sat in front of us for (no exaggeration) 20 minutes before we were asked if we enjoyed the food (our plates were half full). After requesting the bill, we enjoyed another 15 minute wait before the bill hit the table. The potential is there but we will not be back. Bad service - sure. Bad food - okay. But both? Thanks but no thanks. 1.5/5 (the only saving grace was the bacon).
Service is good and the food too! Chill place! Would def come back! Ordered the fall rum drink it was divine
Beautiful and cozy, the vibe and the music were nice, we had a couple of beers and order the special, the fries were so good, the service was very good, we are visiting from Mexico so it s definitely the vibe I would expect coming to a bar and restaurant in Toronto
Came here randomly. Very pleasant place. Food was great. Chris ,our server friendly and accommodating. My only complaint if you want to call it that was the physical plate size. Portions of the food was great, they just didn t fit properly on the plates lol. 10/10 recommended
Cute little restaurant - came here for lunch and had the commoner burger and it was one of the best burgers I ve had in a long time! Service was a bit slow, but overall it was a pleasant experience!
Gentleman who served us was the ultimate professional. Knew his menu and his bar
We had a wonderful brunch with close friends.
We live around the corner and go here from time to time, either for date nights, or with friends and family, and although the food is usually good, the service has a lot to be desired, particularly if you re attempting to get takeout. Every time without fail, if we ever have the audacity to call and ask to get a burger or two for takeout, we are told an unequivocal a very snippy no, sometimes with a friendly hang up. It doesn t matter if it s a Wednesday afternoon or a Friday evening. We love to support local but every time we get treated so rudely, it makes us rethink whether we should keep supporting such an establishment. But if you re just looking to eat a relatively good meal, and don t care much about service, have at it!
Staff were very nice and seated us without a reservation yesterday (a Friday night). Very nice atmosphere/interior design. I enjoyed my food, however my girlfriend has woken up today with severe food poisoning from the porkbelly bao she ordered (which was a little disapointing to her in the first place), so I think we will not be returning sadly.
My friends from different provinces show up every 4 months and this is one of our favorite placessss
Went yesterday and got horrible food poisoning from their burger. I d be very cautious of the ground beef here; it was cooked medium rare, but they likely were not using high quality fresh meats.
Nice place. Duncan the bartender made a great Gin Martini.
Amazing food. The waitress we had wasnt great. She wasnt blatantly rude but wasnt friendly. She rolled her eyes at times which I didnt appreciate. The guy at the front however was fantastic! Food was phenomenal
Was in the area and found this restaurant via Google. Excellent place. Food, service and drinks were awesome. Definitely will try dinner soon.
The Commoner Burger is the best burger in the west end.
A really great place if you just want to get a bite or for drinks. A nice location to watch the streetcars go by. The service was really good and the floors were really clean. The food was amazing and I really liked the picture of the old Toronto streetcar from around the late 1960s or early 1970s. Highly Recommend.
Visited with friends on a Saturday. We were hoping to sit on the patio, but alas, it was pouring. There were plenty of tables. My only complaint is that it was too cold inside. I would have needed to wear pants and long sleeves to be warm enough...but it was August. The Commoner burger was incredible!!! And I dont even like burgers or condiments. The meat was perfectly cooked and the crunchy onions put it over the top. Cocktails were expertly crafted and the staff didnt rush us. Cant wait to return!
What a nice find. The 3 of us and our son s dog Billie had a warm and welcoming reception. The patio is very relaxed, the restaurant itself is comfortable easy and laid back but engaging Cob salads were wonderfully delicious. Not sure what the dressing was but it took the salad to a high! Southern chicken sandwich was prepared perfectly Hot and spicy every other bite. Lovely A must return and often for us
MMMMMMHHHHHHHHMMMMMM lets talk about The Commoner, folks. My partner and I went to The Commoners patio on June 22, 2022 for a drink and dinner for what was really our first traditional date in about 18 months (COVID can kick rocks, for so many more important reasons than stunting my social life, but also for stunting my social life). The patio was fantastic, warm and welcoming with heat lamps should we need them and plenty of space, and the food couldnt have been better. We got the tuna tostada, braised beef sliders, and truffle fries to share and walked away with that feeling of being pleasantly full but not bursting at the seams. Achieving such a balance can be a Wallenda-esque highwire act performed in tandem between an enthusiastic diner and a generous restaurant - Im happy to report that we arrived on the other side of this tortured metaphor in great shape. Lets talk drinks! Now Im a simple man who doesnt need much to be happy (read: can be boring) so I sucked down a couple of Blood Brothers Inner Eyes and could not have been happier. But do not let me guide you down the path of mistaken assumptions that may force you to conclude that my lack of creativity was the result of a limited drink list! Whereas many others have shortened up their offerings in the face of COVID (understandable, of course), The Commoner seems to have prioritized choice among their beers, wines, ciders, and cocktails. The Future Sanchez Life Partner (programming note: partners feeling like they need to take new last names is an antiquated patriarchal practice that takes on colonialist undertones in interracial relationships such as the one in which I find myself engaged - dont let the Boomers guilt you into reinforcing institutional inequity) got herself a glass of wine and, more notably, the house radler which is highly recommended for anyone looking for a light summer offering. 10/10 But alas, weve come to the part of the review where its time to enumerate our regrets, of which I have but one: not getting our servers name to call out. This Guy (and were actually going to make that a proper noun because, again, no name) was friendly, kind, warm, welcoming, funny, respectful of ongoing conversations yet attentive and seemingly right there anytime we needed anything. In the hopes that his manager sees this, he was (and presumably still is but I cant say for sure) tall, had his hair in cornrows, and seemed to have some pretty extensive tattoo action going on. Sweet guy, took our experience from great to exemplary. Life is all about relationships and This Guy made us feel like friends from the moment we arrived. Also he didnt rip on my Boston hat, which I appreciate. Go Sox.
Great Nachos. Lovely personel.
Great looking spot, food was good. Service was attentive at first but pacing was off by the end. Will definitely be back.
Best Nachos
Sat outside, had the bowl for lunch. Food was okay, service nothing special.
Great place, just off roncy. Elevated atmosphere, great for dates as well as catching up with friends, but also family friendly.
Our favourite place to go when we are in the area! Staff are always friendly and we love the atmosphere. Great for gathering with friends and family. My go to is the veggie burger!
Had an awesome date night here before hitting up the Revue after!
Super chill Roncy spot, with killer truffle fries and a solid negroni.
Great local spot. Yummy food. Nice staff and a laid back atmosphere.
Awesome place , chill vibes, amazing staff ( Kelly is so fun!) highly recommend!
Nice little local spot. Great service and eats, and drinks.... will def be going back. Highly recommend - check it out !
Great vibes, delicious comfort food, and very helpful staff service! Anything goes with the truffle fries.
Great spot in Roncy for a bite to eat and a drink!
Had a wonderful time here, the food was great and service was fantastic! Will be visiting again next time I m in the city!!
I had a great time here. Very relaxing, good food and lovely people. A nice place to chill.
This place is GREAT! Food was delish, and everyone was so friendly. It had a really nice vibe to it, and ill be coming back for brunch with friends next time!
Epic brunch menu, do yourself a favour and try the Heuvos!
Great spot, incredible team. Service was very good, looking forward to my next visit!
Best food, amazing staff and beautiful atmosphere!! 1000% recommend!
Will definitely be back! Friendly staff, quality and delicious food! Took friends from out of town for dinner and we had the best time. They couldn t stop talking about how wonderful everything was. Thank you for a great night!
Visited for a friends birthday, the food atmosphere and service were great!
Amazing place and staff!
Hearty and delicious portions. Pleasant and well decorated environment. We arrived around 3pm and the kitchen was almost closing. Even so, we had our orders delivered very friendly.
We have been here many times but unfortunately tonight the Caesar salad lettuce was Brown! We did let our server know
My family and I came for brunch for the first time last week. The service was wonderful. Our waiter was so attentive and accommodating. The ambiance was perfect and the portion sizes are a really good!! Overall, this was an incredible dining experience and will definitely be returning!
My most recent experience here was disappointing. Be aware that the kitchen closes right at 2:30PM on Saturdays even though the brunch menu says it goes to 3pm. They allowed me to order one item, but did so begrudgingly and then didn t take our drink order, give the rest of the party water glasses or ever check up on us unless we asked for assistance. The table beside us received their order a moment before our table did and the restaurant was busy so it didn t seem like a quiet time in the service. The hostess and server were unfriendly. We were luckily moved to a much better table and server once the lunch menu opened at 4:00pm.
I will start by saying the atmosphere is nice and relaxing and the food is ok. We did not feel welcomed from the moment we arrived. There was some misunderstanding about our reservation. Then, after we had already ordered drinks, they came to tell us they had a new policy, they no longer provide individual bills. The reasoning was the lack of time to process multiple transactions. They had maybe 3 other tables to attend to. We were not asked if we wanted more drinks, we were not asked if we wanted coffee or dessert at the end of our meal. It was a disappointment.
Nice place, the veggie burger is pretty good , it s actually well spiced !! A big win for people with vegetarian preferences. Ambience and drinks and servers are great too !!
go here for their brunch!! staff are always so kind too 10/10
Delicious food, great cocktails and fantastic, quick service!
Can t knock this place for anything. Loved the cocktails, and had an incredible craft beer selection. The fried chicken sandwich is messy and worth the sticky fingers at the end, so good! Food
Maybe the best FRESH CUT FRIES in the city.. perfectly salted. Amazing Verity of local beer. Wonderful specials. Burgers are unique with Arugula... Nice location.. its just not a square. Its a sliver with multiple viewing angles. Nice patio and dog friendly
Food is overpriced and lackluster. Service is fine.
Nothing common about The Commoner ! The food here is delicious! I had a Commoner burger & fries. I will definitely be back to try the fish tacos and buttermilk chicken as they looked amazing & my friends really enjoyed theirs. Don t get me started on their donuts, served warm with a delightful dipping sauce - out of this world!! The staff here are super pleasant, happy & helpful. Rave reviews all around from me and my group -
I have been to the Commoner several times and I would just say it was an OK restaurant. The food is OK. The atmosphere is OK. The service is OK, but they were always able to accommodate our group work parties, which is why we went. The last time we went, which was in June 2024, we had a horrible experience. The first thing is after we ordered our meals, we were told we could not have separate bills, even though the last few times we were there, we did have separate bills. Most of us were not too happy about this and wish we were told earlier. In addition, the waiter was very rude, disrespectful and condescending. For example, when we were paying, she said, I have other tables to get to! which, of course, we found very rude. Also, the food was not great. I ordered nachos and they were one of the worst I ve had. Lastly, I decided to talk to the manager about some of the problems we had mostly with the waiter. She was nice and apologized many times and said she would talk to the waiter. She even took my email saying she would follow up and of course did not! I will never be returning to this establishment and neither will all 12 people in our group. DON T WASTE YOUR TIME EATING HERE! There are many better options in this area.
Great time all around, enjoyed both of my visits so far and totally see this as my future watering hole. Thank you for being a great host!
Such a unique location, scene and feel. Theyve built a great corner patio that gets plenty of natural light past noon. Indoor space is gorgeous with heritage photography, leather bench seating and a U shaped bar. Food and drinks always on point
brunch place with traditional brunch menus, above average food and service with pub vibes and streamed soccer games
Great place to watch the finals!
Great restaurant with the bar staff reccomeded favorites. Easy going family friendly atmosphere. Highly reccomeded.
I came in on a Monday, bad mood and such . Not my kind of day. When I tell you this burger was so good, it made me happy. It ain t no lie. They had this unique beer I ve never had before it was crisp and perfect on a hot day. The burger was so delicious and perfect it has quickly become my favourite burger in the city. Burger ate my hyper fixation food so believe me. It s GEWD!
The burgers were decent, the breakfast dish was heavy and the fries portion is huge
Easy spot to get a table during brunch rush on weekends... but I know why. Hostesses always look like at you like you couldnt be more of a bother to them. Food is mediocre for the price. Avo toast is hella overpriced and bread came out soggy. Servers are sweet and attentive.
I upped my rating from 4 to 5. Absolute best veggie burger. Made in house. Not beyond meat. And some of the best fries Ive ever had. Staff are great. Staff is great. Good wines and beers.
Great place to go for lunch or dinner! Lots of good menu options and drinks. Also just generally a really cozy place. Go in the winter to warm up on a cold day
We had a reservation and arrived at the restaurant to be told they were overbooked and couldn t serve us. The staff seemed overwhelmed.
Had a bad experience here last night. We had a party of 12 to grab dinner and a drink before a show at the Revue theatre. The service was incredibly slow to begin with, but the main reason for the bad review is that my wifes meal was somehow forgotten. While we were all eating, she had to sit there and wait as they made her forgotten food. She finally got her food as we were finishing, and had to scarf it down so we could make the show. Whats worse is they didnt explain what happened, or apologize at all. The wait was also not worth it as the food was met with a meh all around. Will not be returning here.
I recently dined here with my boyfriend, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. While the ambiance of the restaurant was charming, with its cozy decor and inviting atmosphere, the service was disappointingly poor. Despite the restaurant not being particularly crowded, the waitstaff seemed overwhelmed and inattentive. It took an excessive amount of time for them to take our orders, and even longer for our drinks to arrive. Moreover, when our food finally did make its way to the table, it was evident that it had been rushed. The presentation lacked finesse, and the flavors were underwhelming. It was evident that little care had been taken in the preparation of our meals. Additionally, the dishes were lukewarm at best, indicating a lack of attention to detail in the kitchen. For a restaurant that prides itself on quality cuisine, this was a major disappointment. Furthermore, the issue extended to the bar, where the drinks we ordered were not served at the appropriate temperature. Cocktails that should have been ice-cold arrived tepid, detracting from the overall enjoyment of the dining experience. While I appreciate the effort that goes into running a restaurant, The Commoner fell short of expectations in terms of both service and food quality. Its a shame, as with some improvements in management and attention to detail, it has the potential to be a much more enjoyable dining destination.
10 of us ladies went here for a Bachelorette brunch. The food was very fresh, the restaurant was very clean & the service was friendly. A must try place.
I regularly daydream about the veggie burger. Period.
Nick was a wonderful server and the brunch was amaaaaaazing! Thanks for a lovely time!
We had brunch and the food and Nick s service were outstanding
It was a cold sunny winter afternoon and we just decided to get a drink and some munchies. Great selection of craft beer and the snacks to share are yummy. Been for Brunch a its worth making a reservation for.
Stylish interior and lots of great menu options
Great food, coffee and atmosphere. We had a lovely group brunch here for a few hours.
Even though I have lived in Roncy Village for some years, today was finally my first visit to the Commoner. The staff were great and the food was delicious! Loved the chicken and waffles! Definitely coming back again soon for dinner.
Stopped in for a drink at this excellent little pub. The bartender Duncan made me an amazing cocktail, On the Rum From The Law. Such a great cocktail. Will definitely come back!
5 mins late due to parking, weren t accommodated
Amazing
Fried chicken sandwich is great! This place was a very nice surprise when I stopped in for lunch. Keep it up.
Wanted to like this place as the design and aesthetic were lovely. We came for brunch, the waitress couldn t tell us which drink was which, the food was bland and tasteless, and didn t really satisfy, especially for the price paid. Won t be coming back.
Great food. Great service. Yummy cocktails
A great local pub. Lots of great food and a nice atmosphere. Families as well as adults are welcome.
Great spot for a drink and bar food, the wings with beef are amazing! And the cocktails are delish! Almost there is high table bar style music was not to loud and a great mix for Bar Conversation. Definitely will cw back!
Had a Cozy brunch there.
I think the french onion soup gave me food poisoning. ambience was cool and other food looked good. probably won t be back though
Decent sports bar/restaurant
Really well made food at good prices. Good beer menu.
I have been to The Commoner Roncy a handful of times now and I have never been disappointed. I organized my boyfriends 40th with so much help from Kelly...she was a delight to work with. Drinks, atmosphere and food are on point!
The food was great and the service was superb
I m so glad I finally went to the Commoner! We arrived for the brunch menu and it was fantastic. My husband had the Eggs Benedict with peameal bacon and I had the breakfast burger with fries. Both were excellent and the burger was huge and super filling. Our waitress was really kind and attentive and we felt well taken care of. The space was bright and cheerful (even on a cold winter day) and the decorations and detail were just lovely. I highly recommend to anyone wants to enjoy some great food and coffee in a great environment!
Great place. Nice service food was great, they could use longer potatoes for the fries, as the picture show, we order fries 2 times and both was really short pieces. Other than that, everything amazing.
Very pleasant and attentive staff. Kid-friendliness: Family friendly. Food : 4/5 |
Friendly service, good food
The food is amazing. I went with two friends and we all raved about the food. Burger was juicy and delicious. The Cobb salad had a perfectly cooked soft boiled egg on it. The beer selection is vast. The different beers show what temperature theyre poured at. Nice touch. And the bathrooms arent in the basement. Hallelujah! I mean Im including the bathrooms in this review. They were so nice and very clean. One last thing, the service was great. Our server was busy and she really hustled. She always made time to check on us. Ill be back soon. Vegetarian options: The veggie burger is delicious. Kid-friendliness: I saw children and strollers in there today. The space is big enough to accommodate strollers.
Like an upscale elevated pub. Great food, service, decor and vibes. Thumbs up all around.
Stopped in for brunch on Sunday. Brunch was tasty but perhaps I ordered the wrong item as it just wasnt enough. Service was pleasant and the place was bright and vibrant. Had a lovely cocktail called Little Miss Roncy, delicious! Mimosas however are a steep $10 for what feels like a shot of orange juice and champagne. Overall a good experience and I would come back again to try some other things on the menu.
Solid brunch menu!
Nice chic place with delicious food and great atmosphere
Great brunch spot near High Park. My favourite was the breakfast sandwich. I requested the bacon to be extra crispy and the chef did not disappoint. I requested for my potatoes to be extra crispy and my server suggested french fries instead and those were a perfect addition. The eggs benedict was great too. If you like spice, request for their home-made hot sauce. Our server was brilliant and we shall definitely come back. Keep up the great work The Commoer Roncy team!
Great server
Food was yummy and had a good set up for a large group. Nachos were delicious!
Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly with patient staff. Recommended dishes
A true Roncy gem - amazing brunch, beautiful decor, and a great patio. Highly recommend.
Slow and bad service. Waiters and waitresses are not friendly and welcoming
Nice ambience, friendly service. Drink selection is great, bunch of nice sours and a couple of ciders! However, the food portions were small/overpriced and average. I would say 4/5 for drinks: just grab a drink here. 3/5 otherwise, go somewhere else for food.
Ambiance plus...big windows looking out over a quiet, rough and tumble section of Dundas. Every now and then a streetcar glides by. Garage doors open onto a peaceful patio. The place is roomy. Not overcrowded with tables. Theres actually comfortably space bar seating! With big barstools!! Unheard of!! No screaming loud music! What a concept! You can have a conversation! Lots of tvs to watch the game...usually no sound...maybe for a big game but not normally. Food menu is varied, tasty, and lots of options. Ppl complaining here about small portions...its not the Mandarin. Service is attentive but not overly. Staff always seem to be happy, which is a big indicator. This is pretty much the most civilized bar I know of.
2nd time here food and service.. great
Im a fan of the brunch menu here. The servings are huge, and the salmon egg benedict was also pretty good. Highly recommended (Pancake score: 5/10)
Cozy spot with tasty food. A neighbourhood favourite.
Cool bar. Poor service
Food quality suffering
Went there for a quick dinner service was okay, food was bland and expensive. Got a salad, fries and ginger ale for $50. Ridiculous pricing for average food.
Food is good. Coffee is good. My only complaint about the food is that the kids menu cheeseburger is slider size, but nowhere says that is so small. The complimentary water that they give you is filtered, so you wont be tasting chlorine when you drink it, which is a big plus. Everyone there is very friendly. Place is extremely loud though. But not because its packed but seems to be an acoustics thing, even my wife sitting next to me sounded way loud than how she was actually speaking.
The restaurant is nice enough however it could do with a deep clean
Relaxed pub place. Good assortment of beers. The menu was concise, and the food was well priced. One thing to be aware of - the tabletops are super sticky (apparently, they need to be revarished), so be prepared for that.
Had a few drinks and some dinner everything was good and had an amazing time ... Definitely check it out
Good food! Fun place. Service was somewhat inattentive though. Could use more veggie options.
Not crowded when a friend of mine and myself went for a lunch. Just a salad and some fish and chips. Very quiet outdoor space. Warm atmosphere inside and out.
We walked this place at 9pm and their sign said it closes at 11pm Monday thru Thurs. We are 10ppl looking for a quick bite. We were turned away saying they are short staffed and closing soon. Very disappointed
Food is better than average. Maybe its sacreligious when there are tacos, burgers, and schnitzel on the menu (all serviceable), but I tend to love their salads the best- perhaps Im just getting old. Service is always friendly, fun, and helpful. Tbh the vibe of the restaurant itself is kind of boring and caucasian but thats fine. A good and unfussy place to take your out-of-town parents.
They have a patio with water bowls for dogs. The brunch was amazing and the servers are very kind. We will come back for sure
great beer selection, comfy atmosphere that feels like youre back in time in a good way Vegetarian options: veggie burger = yum
The Commoner on Roncy is an absolute gem! From the moment I stepped in, the warm and inviting ambiance made me feel at home. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who went above and beyond to ensure a delightful pub experience.
Very nice place, clean and food was great. Would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxed atmosphere and a quick meal.
This place is wonderful. I love the atmosphere, the food, but most of all, the service really is amazing. The servers went above and beyond to relocate my partner and I from the patio to the dining room as I am terrified of wasps and kept getting bothered by them while eating. I really appreciate their kindness.
Great service and good food.
What we ordered and our thoughts: - Buffalo cauliflower: delicious! The buffalo and blue cheese sauces were soooo yummy, we couldn t get enough of it. - Veggie burger + truffle fries : burger was pretty good, although the fries could do with a bit more salt. - Chicken schnitzel: the texture of the chicken was delicious and crunchy. Other parts of the dish could do with a bit more salt. Overall, good spot, although dishes could do with a tad more seasoning. The atmosphere was chill for a friday night not too loud, and there was enough comfortable spaces between tables.
Nice beers
A little pricy
So they dont grind there own meet I found out,They buy it pre made. as I ordered 2 burgers the first one I can says best burger I had in the city. I ordered a second .... The second came out burnt and dry and tasted horrible toppings everything amazing the meat when u tapped it on a plate sounds like a rock it was dry and rather eat any fast food burger then that burgers dont have to be burnt to taste good ruined the qauilty and taste actually very dispointed that a mistake tasted good best mistake every made. Night was ruined by finding out what tasted good was a mistake
Heads up: if you don t like BBQ sauce don t get the nachos. They put it in the refried beans without mentioning it on the menu and they are awfully sour. Doesn t help that the waiter tried to mansplain the definition of refried beans to me.
Food is delicious but nothing to rave about, I come here mostly for the location, vibe and the drinks
For dinner: Don t sleep on the nachos or fried chicken bites!! Skip the schnitzel (too dry and lacked flavour). We went back for brunch as well because we re brunch people. It was decent (potatoes were yum) but benny was drowned in hollandaise and I prefer a different sauce ratio. Service and pub vibes are on point. Love the summer indoor outdoor situation though wasps are a terror.
I have gone to The Commoner since it opened. The food and service have steadily declined over the last few years. The menu is stale and is in desperate need of a complete update, as is the very dated food presentation. I had Huevos Rancheros yesterday. Melted mozzarella - really? A can of black beans instead of refried beans - yuck! Dry tortillas. The poached eggs were done as I requested and good, but they were not enough to save the dish. This is a simple dish that is delicious when executed well with fresh ingredients. Unfortunately, that was not my experience with The Commoner s version.
We went there for brunch last Sunday. Very nice atmosphere and very nice staff. Service was great and food even better! Potatoes are just delicious, dont know what they do to them. I got the english breakfast and it was a must. Wow. So delicious. Thanks, will come again! :)
Was there for an early dinner with my daughter who is a vegan. We were both able to eat fabulous food. And as a bonus the entire restaurant was accessible. Service was incredible. Cant wait to go back!!! Best french onion soup, that I have had in years.
I had not been to the Commoner in many years so it was nice to check it out again. It seemed to have transformed more into a bar than a restaurant. Being there on a Saturday evening, we expected it to be busy and loud and it was. No big deal. Sports on the TV was enough to keep our teens happy. After a brief wait, we were set up at our table. Again, the music was a little loud, meaning everyone was trying to talk over it. But we adjusted, the level of noise dropped and it was no longer an issue. Food was fairly quick. Burgers, chicken sandwich and steak were ordered. No complaints on the food. My chicken sandwich was hot, crunchy and hit the spot. Kids devoured their burgers. It was a nice evening out. My only slight complaint was the unnecessary urgency we were feeling from staff to move on and pay. There were empty tables around us and they brought the bill before we were even done eating. Small things are big things these days with how little people are going out and of course the cost. I am sure it was not intentional, but it put a small sour taste on the evening. Maybe when kids are involved, staff think parents are trying to hurry through dinner and get out. Anyways, all in all, it was good meal. Great people watching on the corner and even though the TVs got switched to hockey, the boys were happy. Its great to see a local place like this doing so well and it certainly is a good spot if you are in the Roncy/Dundas W area.
The design and atmosphere of the place was so intriguing and amazing, the service was quick and friendly and the food was the best burger i ve ever had. It was crispy and saucy and not too moist. The truffle fries were also amazing.
Had to try the commoner s brunch and I was definitely not disappointed! The food was amazing, good quantity and quality for the cost! Only down side was the service was not as great but not horrible. The hostess was quite dreary/uninterested in their job and didn t make us feel welcome. And things were a bit slow.
My family and I been to The Commoner Roncy restaurant many times. They serve up good quality, tasty food at a reasonable price with friendly & efficient service. Each time they deliver wonderful flavors satisfying my whole family even my teenage kids. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant location is very convenient, also very clean and well maintained.
Great vibe during adjustment to covid. Slight issue with one dish. But the team quickly jumped on it and corrected the issue. Will go back again.
From the moment you step into The Commoner, nestled in the heart of Roncesvalles, you re greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere that blends the charm of a traditional pub with a sleek, modern twist. This quaint spot has quickly become my go-to for not just a meal, but an experience. Let s talk about the stars of the show - the burgers. Calling them the best almost feels like an understatement. Each burger is a masterpiece, crafted with the freshest ingredients and an evident passion for culinary excellence. The flavors are robust and perfectly balanced, satisfying even the most discerning burger aficionados. Whether you re a classic burger lover or someone who enjoys adventurous toppings, The Commoner has something that will tantalize your taste buds. But the experience doesn t stop at the burgers. Whether it s a casual night out with friends, a family dinner, or a special date night, the warm lighting and tasteful decor set the perfect mood. And it s not just the interiors; the pub exudes a welcoming vibe that makes you feel like a part of the Roncesvalles community. Moreover, a special mention must be made for Daisy and Cayla, arguably two of the best bartenders in Toronto. They are more than just bartenders; they are mixologists with a flair for creating the most innovative and delightful drinks. Their expertise in blending flavors is unparalleled, making each beverage a unique piece of art. Watching them in action, skillfully crafting each drink with precision and care, is a treat in itself. They truly embody the spirit of The Commoner, making each visit memorable.
great atmosphere and food
Our server, Hannah, was wonderfully attentive and recommended the Southern Chicken sandwich. It was UNREAL! SO incredibly, tender, delicious and flavorful. The french fries and cocktails were also incredible. 10/10 recommend!
The place is open concept and looks very welcoming. We went there for brunch. Out of the things we tried Egg Benedict was good but the Commoner and chicken were dry.
Great spot, good specials. Small but good menu.
First and foremost, this is a welcome improvement over the wild wing that used to occupy this location however many years ago. Beer selection is excellent here, and the service is almost always great. The burgers are nice, and the fried chicken sandwich is also very agreeable. But please: Under no circumstance should anyone order the fish tacos. It is a cold, hopeless piece of nondescript white fish in a thick and gummy batter. They top it only with a dreary slaw and a lemon on the side. This whole nightmare is built upon a cold, raw tortilla. I resisted the urge to send the dish back, though serving a cold tortilla is such an act of aggressive disdain. Instead I asked for hot sauce and a rather nice scotch bonnet sauce arrived in a squeeze bottle. It made the whole chilly mess palatable enough to trudge through. I have been trying to forget this experience for weeks, and very much hope to guide any other hungry folks away from this menu item. Don t get the fish tacos. They are not good.
They had a great Monday special of any burger and beer. The crispy chicken sandwich was delicious! The service was also great, we actually forgot our bag there and our server came running down the street to give it back to us. Will definitely be coming back for the great vibes, food and drinks!
Nice place. Friendly staff. My only complaint was it was freezing
Ambiance was good and server was great and responsive. Unfortunately the food wasnt. I got the vegan chorizo tacos and it felt like a microwaved soft taco shell. Half of one of the tacos was very hard and plasticky - I couldnt even chew it and had to rip that piece off. I also had a stomach ache after eating the food so it didnt sit too well with me. From the other reviews it sounds like a burger would have been the better option, but I probably wouldnt return anytime soon.
Nice spot
The food was great, the drinks were nice, and our waitress, Andra, was so fun and personable. One of the best dining experiences in a long time (in large part thanks to Andra). Missing star is for taking the sticky toffee pudding off the menu (we came specifically for it but it wasnt on the menu anymore )
I do not recommend the brunch Very poor coffee No espresso option Low quality food ingredients
We went for brunch. The food and service were excellent, the room is beautiful and the prices reasonable. Two minor comments - it was weird that there were no lights on (at first we thought it might be closed!), and the coffee was pretty mediocre. Overall a very good experience and we will likely be back.
Great atmosphere, with lots of references to the neighbourhoods history.
I enjoyed the fish tacos for lunch along with a Partake de-alcohollized IPA. My buddy got the burger and enjoyed it as well. Ill definitely stop in here again for either lunch or dinner.
