SIMPL THINGS is a unique all day cocktail and snack bar. Lunch and Brunch features Italian comfort food by Chef Cody, with a daily cocktail hour followed by Neo-Chinese at night by Fat Bao. Look for a cozy, intimate vibes with fun, vibrant craft cocktails, natural wines and local beers. Perfect for date night, birthday celebrations and a friends night out.
I absolutely love simpl things. Chef Cody’s food is always outstanding and the cocktails are always a highlight. I just recently tried they’re new concept and would highly recommend.
FOOD: too bad and too slow. • Croquetas: no flavors, taste like a simple deep fried potato ball. • Pappardelle: pasta sitting in a bowl of water, undercooked and meat is mushy, zero flavor in it. • Wedge salad (add steak): the lettuce is underneath mountain of dressing, there're 5 slices of steak added to my salad and they're very chewy. DRINKS: • "Fresh" orange juice: is poured out from bottle and it took them 40 mins to serve it. • Coffee is made from tiny home coffee machine. SERVICE: my juice is served after 40 mins and food is over an hour. No apologize, no explanation what so ever. There's only 1 person in the kitchen cooking for about 6 tables there. VIBE: tiny restaurant that they tried to squeeze in as many seats as possible. It's so tight and uncomfortable sitting in there, tables are too small. It's lack of air to breath as there're too many people in a small room so people have to open the window although it was not a warm day.
Great brunch, wonderful atmosphere. We had The Weekday Fry Up, and Shaksugo (crispy polenta fries - yum!) with original martinis to start, and espresso martini. Everything was delicious! Will definitely be back 😁
We had brunch at SIMPL THINGS, and it was quite an interesting local spot. This place has a unique setup with two restaurants in one location. Until 4-5 PM, one group runs it, and after an hour, it turns into a Chinese restaurant. The brunch was nice. The sandwiches were very impressive, though the egg sausage dish was not that special. The mashed potato, which was placed in the oven and roasted, was a unique and tasty experience for me. The server was nice and attentive. The location is close to a food shelter, which wasn’t ideal, but the unique decoration inside made it feel separate and cozy. Overall, a pleasant experience and worth a visit.
Checked out this place for dinner on Wednesday April 24, 2024 and wow! What a culinary experience. It’s small and cozy with amazingly kind and attentive staff. The food is delicious as are the drinks. The ambiance and decor is easily my favourite I’ve seen in all of toronto. I cannot wait to be back! I truly felt like I was getting a Michelin star experience with the mouth watering taste of the dishes, with affordable pricing. I don’t post reviews unless I absolutely love something or totally hate it, so the fact that I’m writing this means a lot. What a gem of a spot! Oh, and make sure to try their dessert- wow! Tons if veggie options on the menu too :)
Cute local spot with cool decor and delicious food. Stopped in on a whim on a Saturday afternoon around 2:30. Was seated immediately. Service was friendly and attentive. Was recommended a steak sandwich on special and it did not disappoint. Also enjoyed the croquettes and wedge salad. Prices were roughly $14-25 a dish. Portions are reasonable and the food was delicious. Cocktails were tastey. Beer is served in cans and approx. $7-$9 a piece. Would be happy to return.
Hidden gem! The vibes are pleasant and while the food + drinks are a bit pricey they're so good! Our server was very helpful with recommendations, decor has a unique pretty ambiance with fun pops of colour and even the bathroom is cute. I'd definitely return to dine on the patio now that it's open with more friends (it's a little squishy inside with small tables, so I don't recommend big groups!). I really enjoyed my avocado toast.
Cocktails were good. We had the late night menu and it felt really pricey for the portion size ($17 for fried mushrooms, there were about 5-6 mushrooms). The food was imaginative but didn’t feel worth the price. Update: I returned to simpl things about a year after leaving the above review and I am way more impressed! I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken, and it was delicious - crispy chicken, savoury cheese, just an extremely well put together and high quality plate! I’ve raised my rating to four stars.
Very original cocktails
Lovely staff and great food in a modern but calming interior. Nice cocktail too, hard to do akvavit right but they managed!
Always have a great meal and very good value imo.
Brilliant food. Furikake rice crispie surprise is not to be missed! Vegetarian options: Lots Recommended dishes Wedge Salad
I went in the evening so it was the Asian small plates menu. Everything I had was good and I would go back to try the rest of the menu.
I love simpl things, their new menu?! Delicious. And Ana Laura is the best Vegetarian options: Onigiri, kimchi salad, cold noodles
Cute spot for drinks that s changing the game in Parkdale!
Amazing experience! The food was exceptional, we tried the Chef Lus menu and it was so hard to choose a favorite. The staff were incredible such a fun atmosphere from perfect lighting to great music we even got a mini performance as the staff were sininging with the customers! 10/10 would recommend! Also the prices were so reasonable incredible food without breaking the wallet! Dietary restrictions: Almost half the menu was gluten free!
Excellent food, the cole slaw almost killed me (in a good way)
Cute and affordable bao & other dishes and cocktails. Most of the Asian menu is fried, possibly due to the lack of a full kitchen, but the flavours of the bao were fabulous making up for it. The dumplings and noodles were okay but bao is clearly the go-to.
The gnocchi pasta was amazing. Their pasta is freshly made! They also have so many unique and fun cocktails. We ll definitely be back!
Really cute and interesting space. The servers there were very nice and friendly to chat with. A little over priced for both drinks and food. The pasta I got was a bit on the smaller portion sized, but I did enjoy everything nonetheless.
Absolutely fantastic food and service. A very cool and relaxed vibe.
Mini chicken parm sandwich is GREAT and always have wonderful wine recommendations
There is nothing simple about how incredible our experience was! The interior makes it feel as though you re at someone s fabulously decorated home and the level of service and hospitality further reinforced that! Emma and Megan were not only so kind but very helpful in making recommendations to fit our tastes and ensuring that we had everything we needed. When one of the items we wanted was unavailable they recommended an alternative that knocked our socks off! The drinks were beautifully presented and tasted even better, and the food was delightful (the mushroom bao changed my life). I will absolutely be returning and recommending my friends to check it out!
Had such a great dinner here that we rebooked for the next week. Need to come back to try the Italian lunch! Full video on IG.
Good service and atmosphere. Food was not great. Mine was the wedge salad with added chrispy chicken. I could have made it better at home. The french toast was nice but too rich. Overall disappointed. Food
So surprised by the reviews. This restaurant definitely isn t for everyone , all 5 of us were unable to eat the food here. We found the cocktails almost as bad as the food .
We had a fantastic time here for dinner tonight! Fantastic food, currently with Chef Eva Chin. Beautiful and creative cocktails.... just wow... with non-alcoholic options galore. Highly recommend!
The evening menu only has appetizers. They tasted good but you need 5 appetizers for 180lb person, and then the price doesnt make sense. I havent tried lunch or breakfast.
Dropped by for brunch where we ordered the Eggs Shaksugo and the Fry Up. Both dishes were really delicious, I especially loved the fried mashed potatoes. It s a cute tiny little restaurant, so I would definitely recommend making a reservation.
This place is so fun! If youre looking for a great place for small plates and drinks, this is the spot. Cozy, comfy, great cocktails and fantastic small plates from Fat Bao. Service was warm, friendly and inviting. Will have to come back to try brunch!
For what it is, absolute 5 star. Delicious, reasonably priced cocktails. Awesome vibes/design. Great service. Food was very good for bar snacks. Stuffed chicken wing was particularly great.
The cocktails and bao were good but some of their food was too salty, the shanghai noodles and the dan dan rice especially. The service was very friendly!
Fun and creative hidden gem in Parkdale. Chef Scotts pop up today was excellent.
Tried this place for dinner, very nice spot, server was very accommodating food was delicious! Surprised to see a nice selection of non-alcoholic cocktails as well
Simpl Things is a different restaurant day and night. This review is about the nights by Eats by Betty. Chef Betty hails from Taiwan and her food although very Asian in flavours has the depth of good French technique. And her flavours are glorious and her presentations are very cool. It will sounds crazy by someone who likes, doesn t love tofu to say it s one of the best dishes on the menu. In the other side of the spectrum the bone marrow is out of bounds. The space is really cool. Reminds me of a hot spot in Brooklyn. Drinks are absolutely fantastic by Evelyn Chick who is a mastermind and wines are creative and delicious. There is a salad on the menu that s so complex and it s heavenly. Actually everything is. Popcorn mishrooms are a must. Now, I know and am very aware the kitchen is small but I think one dessert should be created. Sweet tooth s like mine need to be fed.
Lovely experience. The bread & pickles and arancini were really really enjoyable and well priced. We were the first table there, our server was so kind and positive (I cant remember their name but this was on Jan.26th). Go & have fun!
What a little gem. Decor is on point, the vibes are immaculate and the food was so flavourful and delicious. The staff was attentive, gave great recos and although the tables are tiny the feel of the space is so warm and welcoming. I cannot wait to go back!
Love the food and vibes! Went there for a second time with family and they couldn t stop talking about how tasty everything was. Great addition to the area!!
Croquettes were delicious and the best Ive eaten in Canada so far. The brunch bolognese spaghetti really tasted off and the in-house canned cocktail is rather overpriced. The decor is great and super cozy. Very nice servers!
Incredible experience and an awesome location. My first time here with a friend and I had a great time, the cafe is clean and gorgeous, lots of natural light and interesting decor. Food and drinks came quickly, and were also fantastic. Malik served us and was a joy! Service was fast, hospitable, and warm. Can t recommend this place or Malik enough for a great time and will be back soon for sure :)
Went for dinner. The food was outstanding. Debated giving it 4 stars based on how long it took to get the food, but the dishes made up for it. Make sure to order the tartare on bone marrow.
Service is great food is amazing . If you reading this juts go. Go . Go. The pictures is our plates . Empty Thats right. Lol
Some of the best non-alcoholic drinks in the city.
Great atmosphere, good vibes here. I would definitely visit again!
We went as a table of 6 for the happy hour menu then stayed past 7 for the dinner menu. Drinks and snacks for happy hour were delicious! Then at dinner we almost ordered everything on the menu and shared it between the 6 of us. Everything was incredible! The ambiance of this little restaurant is so perfect too. The service was so good as well, our waiter was the nicest guy! I would definitely recommend this place!
Nice little spot featuring some creative Asian cuisine. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable and bubbly even though it was quite busy for her. Would definitely recommend!
Food 10/10 unreal! Some of the best Taiwanese food ive ever had in my life. Chef Betty Chia NAILS IT!!!!! The ambiance of the restaurant is just a little off--kind of like an overdone, budget millennial aesthetic. Maybe its more of a daytime aesthetic? Any how..FOOD IS INCREDIBLE !!!!!
Staff: 11/10 LOVE the aesthetic and what they ve done with the place. Got to interact with their chef and am still dreaming about the bread and butter. GET THE BREAD. Eat the carbs. Our girls group went for brunch and we sampled a bit of everything, but the Shaksugo was the perfect hearty brunch meal and we ll give the polenta fries a moment too . We also loved the little arancini balls as a great starter.
this is such a good spot. everything is delicious. several options for non-alcoholic cocktails and absolutely great vibes
This place is perfect. Calm colourful environment, amazing cocktails, delicious food and super nice staff. LOVED it.
I came here for drinks with some friends on a Saturday night. The 3 of us sat on their patio and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The popcorn mushrooms and brussel sprouts were delicious and the drinks were excellent. In particular, the Not your average marg was a hit - not too sour, spicy salt on the rim, and easy to drink. So much so, that it was ordered multiple times. Great vibe, great music, and great service. Looking forward to coming back to try more of the food and drinks!
I cannot say enough good things about this place. Service was amazing. Food was outstanding. Drinks were top of the line. Vibe: I felt cooler the minute I stepped inside and never wanted to leave. 11/10.
The staff were really nice. Really professional, too. We had an issue with one of the drinks being too spicy/medicinal/herbal for our taste, and were able to switch it out without fuss and with specifically catered recommendations based on our feedback. We also had the tartare on bone marrow. There were these lotus root chips included. They were sliced especially thin, which was cool. They were extremely crispy, and not at all oily. I m curious how they achieved this perhaps with the microwaving chip technique? After we were done eating the bone marrow, they gave us the option of a special tequila shot that you can drink from the bone they pour the tequila down the bone, and you re able to taste the alcohol mixed with the fat of the bone marrow, which gives the intensity of the tequila a nice, savoury cushion. I thought that was pretty innovative. We also had steak and Lou Rou fan (fatty pork and rice). Nice, though a little expensive to me. There was only a small bowl of that pork rice, but comparing to other places I ve eaten it in Toronto, that seems to be standard. We also had these fried tofu baos, which is probably worth a try. Small portions, but I feel like that s kinda in line with the theme of this restaurant. Nice atmosphere. Especially if you re an alcoholic. But it s cool in general if you can appreciate a small, cute bar. Slightly too cramped for me, but it s not a big deal.
Came for a double date and had a wonderful experience. Malik was our server and he was fabulous!
Creative dishes and cocktails, kitchen was slow to get dishes out, servers were trying their best but seems like they were over stretched. A good spot for a casual bite and drink.
Really cute space, good balls of fried meat.
We were looking forward to dine here as our friend recommended this place. We arrived on time for our reservation at 8:30, stood awkwardly by the door for 5-10 minutes to finally catch a server s attention to be seated. The ambiance and the interior of the restaurant is beautiful. Very trendy eccentric vibe, menu looked terrific too but the chairs we were sitting were extremely uncomfortable, small whimsy bar chair only good for its look. We asked to be moved to a sit down table but we were told that there were reservations coming up. These reserved tables were left empty until we finished our visit, likely a no-show or cancellation, but we were never offered to be moved despite us asking number of times. It took us 1.5hrs to receive 3/4 food items and 2 cocktails, each menus taking 30 minutes to be served, two of them were cold dishes. Our server looked very busy and just left the dish on our table without any word and walked away. After our third menu waiting for our foruth to come we lost our patience and asked our server to cancel the fourth if the chef hadn t started it yet. Our server was kind enough to cancel the menu and not charge us for our drinks. The restaurant looked extremely short staffed for a busy Saturday night; two servers (one making drink and another serving), and two chefs. I don t blame the staffs for our unpleasing and unsatifying experience, they were doing the best they could but this place really needs to step up their staffing.
Our go-to lunch date spot. Consistently delivers great food, great wine, great patio, great service. This is a great spot.
Incredible food. Cool concept. We went for lunch on a whim and came back for dinner. Would def go back.
Unfortunately the vibe is better than the food. Went in the evening for taiwanese. Portions were small and food was not authentic. Also felt weird that the white root ends of the green onion was served with our steak - that part usually goes in the trash
Great patio just off of Queen st w. Service was perfect with an extremely friendly staff both times I visited. The chicken parm sandwich is the best I ve ever had. (Before 5) highly recommended.
Cute cocktails and great service ! Space is a little small so I don t suggest a big group. The decor and aesthetic is very cute with pops of colour. Definitely recommend for a girls night.
Lovely space! Amazing food and drinks. Servers are fantastic as well. Such a cute date spot!
We will be back for sure. Loved every single dish. Its rare in this city that everything is perfect and that not a single dish could be your favorite. Great service and fantastic cocktails. Food
Beautiful decor, even better food
Tried this place for the first time today for fathers Day brunch. Its cute. Tables inside are very cozy (by that I mean close together). First off the food was very good. I had shaksugo and polenta fries and my dad had a breakfast Sando that looked great. The not so great part was waiting an entire hour for our food after we ordered. I mean...it doesnt take that long to bake eggs. I think they forgot. I also had a cucumber nojito. It was delicious and refreshing. However it was removed from the table before I was done with it :/ overall worth a second try.
Went there just for cocktails on a date. They were DELICIOUS!! And definitely packed a punch. Service was wonderful and it was good vibes here! Recommend! Menu is very creative.
Drinks were delicious, we were there during shift changeover so we experienced some very slow service but otherwise great spot for drinks and snacks!
We had the Cartl Avo Toast and the French toast which were both very good and plentiful. Be careful, the Cartl avo toast is spicy!
Nice patio dinning
This place blew me away. Try the mushroom tagliotoni.
Great experience, service is on the slower side but well worth the wait for cocktails and food options!! This place is meant to be an experience itself so go and enjoy.
Fun aesthetic spot in Parkdale for shareables and cocktails. There is seating outdoors as well as two indoor areas. Enjoyed the Mushroom Taglioni and the Shrimp Pappardelle. Would recommend ideally for groups of 2-4.
Every single thing we had was delicious and the service was exceptional! Casual but great. I love when you don t know what you re doing and the server tells you! Can t wait to go back
I really wanted to love this place, but I was not impressed. The tables are set up in a way where you re basically sitting with the table beside you. The cauliflower bao being $13 is absurd for what it was. The only redeeming thing was the popcorn mushrooms, delicious! and the girls working there were very nice
Every dish we had on the evening Taiwanese menu was top notch. Service was friendly and attentive. Great patios too!
Delicious food, great service! The French toast is amazing. Can t wait to try their dinner menu & cocktails. Food
The Taiwanese food is excellent and cocktails are good too.
Great new place. Love the cocktails. Their mini Eggplant parm sandwich is possibly the best ive ever eaten.
I really would love to give this place a great rating. Loved the extensive cocktails list. The dish from Chef Betty Chia was scrumptious and the plating a work of art. Unfortunately, like with all things in life, I like to be at choice. I was dining alone and ordered according to my photos timestamp exactly at 7.09. My dinner arrived at 7.59. There was a check point by the server at 45 min. I mentioned it has been 45 minutes very quietly and she answered very short that theres only one chef, so thats that (paraphrasing). Not an apologetic response, a rebuke. My thoughts: 1) The place wasnt full but was busy. Understandably hard for one single person to cook quickly. But why? The dish was $48. Not cheap. Why didnt the chef have helpers during the busy times? 2) Consent[! Usually when one orders something that is going to take a while, the server offers a warning sorry, we are very busy right now or even in the menu: this dish will take 20 minutes. There was no warning whatsoever and perhaps if I had had company I wouldnt be so disappointed for having had to wait 50 minutes for one dish. 3) could have been offered something else or an appetizer. Could have gotten some bread? Instead, when I point out the wait I am shamed because theres only one chef in the kitchen. Please see my other reviews, usually very positive all over the world, and take my comments in that context. Most of my reviews are 5 stars! Sad. As I said, its around the corner!!!
Me and my girlfriend went here for brunch and both my Avocado Toast and her Pasta were fantastic! The atmosphere is really beautiful and service was top notch. Only the iced coffee was quite weak but apart from that were very excited to try the dinner menu next!
fabulous meals, great staff and awesome ambience. Must go!
Betty, the resident chef at Simpl Things for dinner and owner/head chef of Eats by Betty, is a culinary genius. Bringing a twist of Taiwanese to Toronto, Eats by Betty is dishing out some of the best eats weve had in a while. From the service, to the food, to the atmosphere, everything here is done right. We got the steak, the lobster, the tofu, and the tartare and each were absolutely incredible. For lunch/brunch, Chef Cody is bringing his Italian flair on brunch and lunch. With a rotating menu, but classics remaining as staples, Chef Cody and the team at Pasta Cartl are pushing out some delicious brunch and lunch fare. If youre in the area, this is definitely a must go-to.
Superb cocktails and food. Atmosphere is on point, service is great. Would recommend to anyone.
Delicious food in a cute atmosphere, make sure to luge it up if you order the bone marrow
This place is amazing, I love the concept - the food is so fresh and unique, I look forward to trying everything. The interior design is so beautiful this is the perfect place to come with girlfriends, your Mom, your partner on a date night, anything so good
Amazing brunch item! Everything is so fresh. I love their bread and potatoes cubes! Definitely will go back!
Went there for brunch and was not disappointed. Their beef sando was amazing. It comes with polenta fries and reduced beef stew kinda like a dip for your sando and everything pairs so well. Definitely coming back.
Fantastic brunch experience. It s my first time trying steak & eggs and the one here is so tasty. The place was a bit crammed but food and service both made up for that.
Really great experience at Simpl Things. We reserved a table at 7pm, and had the Taiwanese menu to choose from. Everything was top notch. Service, atmosphere, music and of course the food and drink were all on point. Will be going back many, many times.
I held a staff party here with 13 people in the attention to detail was second to none. Menu was amazing and the staff were incredibly friendly, engaging. Would definitely recommend this, especially for groups! Dietary restrictions: Halal nut free, and vegetarian all catered to perfectly
Phenomenal!!!! Thank you Chef Eva for a culinary experience. I cannot wait to go back, but have no idea what dishes I liked best - every bite was scrumptious. Team was fantastic and warm and the cocktail I had was spot on. Loved it! Parking: Was easy to find parking on Dunn
Hidden Gem at the Parkdale area servicing Italian during the day and Pan Asian inspired cocktail and tapas dishes by night. I was here for my Bday and we were greeted by the owners cheerful and warm welcome. Such a simple thing to smile and treat your guests with greeting and it goes a long way making their night! Drinks were very interesting and food was creative and flavour combinations was good, but not balanced. The rice cakes sauce was a bit too strong, and needs a bit cheese to softened a bit I feel. I am Asian so I am a tougher judge. I would definitely be back to try more drinks here!
Immaculate spot with a blend of mid century and modern vibe. All dishes are made in house, the bread and pasta are made fresh daily. Wine list is fire, and cocktail list is fun and flirty.
Great atmosphere and perfect place for a snack.
The best avocado toast I ve ever had. They make their own bread & it s great; fluffy, airy & chunky. Also the decor and servers are great too.
Chef Cody is a true master of his craft! The food and drink here are truly unbelievable and you can clearly see that there is passion for what is being done here. I cant recommend this place enough!
Charming little spot with exciting food and such a cool vibe that will remind you of a retro club! This place offers different menus depending on the time of day. For dinner, the option is an Asian fusion menu which includes excellent food. A couple of must tries include scallion pancakes topped with shaved mortadella and parmesan and a vegetarian gnocchi with peas and nuts. Both dishes are bold but so good! I suggest having a few dishes to share to try as many options as possible The cocktail options are wide and tasty and the vibe of the spot is effortlessly cool complemented by an even cooler staff. Prices are honestly reasonable and worth the quality and creativity of the dishes.
BEST IN THE WEST. Food. Drinks. Ambiance. We live in the area and know all the best spots west of Yonge and south of Bloor. SIMPL: Excellent food by Chef Cody. Superb server team.
Such a lovely cute restaurant in Parkdale! Our server was absolutely awesome - they were attentive, kind *and* also a fantastic bar tender! And the sesame shrimp bao is worth dying for. As is the Dan Dan bowl though it s not gnocchi but rice cakes (menu needs some updating, more below) I am reserving a couple of stars from this review as we were hella confused by the online menu (what s cocktail hour vs happy hour?) Also the Neo-Chinese dinner is 6pm in one place and 7pm at another. Once those tiny kinks are worked out - it s 5 stars all the way! I want to see this place thrive because they are the type of friendly, accessible place that we need around here!
My friend and I passed by to check this place out. I didn t realize when coming here that the menu from brunch/lunch to dinner would be completely different. The dinner menu looks way more appealing to me, as it focuses on Asian dishes. I probably should have researched into this place more. Regardless, the bread and pickled veggies were great. The seating I found was very uncomfortable and way too close to your neighbours. I d return for their dinner menu and check out the vibe during the evening.
Great cocktails. Fun staff. PK4L!
Was in Toronto visiting a dear friend and we chose Simpl Things for lunch because chef Cody has been one of my favorite chefs in the city for a long time. We were both very happy and got to enjoy a chefs table experience in the intimate dining area. Our server was awesome and we got to enjoy handmade pasta and excellent cocktails. Chef Cody always puts great care into his craft and he certainly took great care of us! Thanks guys!
Very tasty jjabong. Mando. Thank you
Incredible pasta and vibes, chef is super cute
Excellent food and cocktails.
Excellent food, excellent people.
This place is unreal !!! The food was so delicious, the cocktails so unique and the atmosphere 10/10! It is definitely Miami vice with gorgeous vintage stools and such unique touches! will definitely be coming back to try the lunch menu
Amazing vibe and friendly staff! All the cocktails we tried were great. Ordered the beef tartare and cauliflower bao which were both insanely good. Highly recommend and will return soon!
Delicious food, delicious drinks, vintage glassware, a vibe so cool you didn t even know you needed it, and a chef(s) that cooks with heart and soul. The wedge salad is *chefs kiss* one of the best things I ve ever eaten. The pasta is made fresh daily. The smoked fish croquettes were perfect. Perhaps my favourite part of the meal was the chilli compound butter that paired insanely well with the fresh sourdough and little focaccia rounds. This is the restaurant Toronto needs, and Toronto finally has. Unpretentious, delicious flavours in an environment that make you instantly cooler.
Great food, friendly staff, cocktails on point. Ive been three times since they opened and Ill be back a lot more. A new neighborhood gem for sure!
Kind, attentive staff and great food. We stopped by for lunch and had the house bread and two pastas. All incredibly delicious. Very welcome addition to the neighborhood!
We had an amazing wedding lunch here with 14 guests. The seating is intimate and the tables were beautifully set up, our server was super attentive and we couldnt have been happier! Ambiance is top notch with the bright natural lighting and gorgeous curation of decor. Everyone really enjoyed their food and drinks (both alcohol and non-alcoholic options were delicious). Will definitely be back to try the evening food menu and this is easily one of my favourite spots in the city now!
Fantastic place. Great cocktails and food. Loved the Lu Rou Fan, probably one of the best in Toronto.
Beautiful space. Amazing house made fresh bread and fresh pastas. A gem in parkdale.
The Simpl Things is a great place to go for a date, with an intimate group or one of the best places to start or end your night. The setup is very visually appealing and Im not going to oversell it because I think the experience is best enjoyed as a reveal if youre not familiar. I also just can not say enough nice things about the staff here. Honestly one of the best experiences from not only a customer service level but also on a human to human level. A real hidden gem, dont spoil it Toronto ;)
The place is fine, however the service is lousy, especially the waitresses. We were a table of 4 people, after finishing with the first round of drinks and food the table was left full of plates. A long time passed and no one offered us anything else to drink or picked up the dirty dishes. When we asked the waitress to help us, she got annoyed because we asked her to please take the things away, after that she didnt return to the table. The person in charge of the drinks at the bar realized the situation and continued to serve us. They should not hire people who think they are doing their customers a favor, we went with the best attitude and wanting to have a good time. I know Toronto is especially bad when it comes to the level of service, but yesterday was especially bad. The food is pretty average... I hope the owner of this place reads this and takes action.
High quality delicious cocktails and thoughtful, innovative plates in the most adorable little space. Staff were knowledgeable, attentive and courteous- thanks to the whole team for such a great visit. Can t wait to come back.
I love this place, from day to night the food and drinks are delicious. Particularly the daytime pasta menu and that fresh bread!!! But, if you re in the neighbourhood late night there is delicious Taiwanese food that goes down well. Beautiful venue, excellent service and delicious food 10/10z Vegetarian options: Both menus have vegetarian options Dietary restrictions: Chefs are willing to work within your dietary requirements.
Upon first entering the space, you re greeted by the smiles and warmth of the chefs in the kitchen. The cocktails, incredible. I ve told so many friends that this may be one of the best espresso martinis in the city! As for the food, I think I ll be dreaming about the beef sando and wedge salad for many nights to come. Can t wait to visit again and try the night menu!
Simpl Things is fantastic! The decor, the bar, the food, the service - just impeccable. People who take this much care into every detail should be applauded and five starred. I went out of my way to review them positively, you should too after your visit!
Simpl Things is one of the most well thought out and eclectic restaurants in the city. Two menus for both food and drinks from day to night, a beautifully curated vintage vibe with bright colours, creative drinks and amazing food. Top notch service with a great knowledge of their offerings. Definitely a must try!
I came here for lunch with my sister and we had a wonderful time! The staff and space were very accommodating, light and friendly! The atmosphere is kitschy and retro with lots of charm, the staff is attentive and kind, happy to walk you through the the food and drink options. We had a few drink and pasta and loved it all! We will definitely be back again!
Came in for late lunch on a Sunday. The vibe was chill, the room is beautiful and the playlist was perfect. Picking a drink was difficult.. I got a glass of textural white my friend got an espresso martini. Loved everything we got from pasta cartl too! Can t wait to come back for the Taiwanese street food and to try the cocktails myself. Happy to have another rad spot for drinks with two rad menu concepts to try alongside. Yummm!
We popped in for late afternoon cocktails last weekend and had such a lovely experience! The bartender who was just arriving to start work stopped to ensure we were greeted promptly as the other server was busy with tables and a full bar - which was super sweet. The service was professional and warm, and our server took the time to explain everything to us. The cocktails were perfect and we can t wait to come back for dinner! Also the space is beautiful - unassuming from the outside but bright and cozy inside. A wonderful addition to the neighbourhood!
Simpl things does a phenomenal job with such a small space! Having lived in the neighbourhood for many years, this is a great addition. Fantastic food, speedy cocktail service (especially the canned cocktails) and a wonderful staff that is laid back, yet attentive and knowledgeable. We have now been 6+ times, with more trips planned in the future, I encourage you to go give it a try for yourself. You will not be disappointed!
Went here for brunch today. Got served by Joyce, they were super knowledgeable and friendly. My friend and I shared 3 dishes - portions were huge and we even had left overs. Service and vibes were 10/10. Can t wait to go back for dinner!!
This place is absolutely iconic and the service is top notch! Its so refreshing to see a place in Toronto with unique personality! I definitely recommend it and will be telling all my friends about it! 10/10
Love Simpl! We have brought our toddler there for lunch, my husband and I have been there for a dinner date, I have been there with a girlfriend for dinner, etc and every single experience has made us want to come back for more. The food from two different menus (day vs night) is insanely good, the cocktails are to die for, the decor is beyond cute, and if that wasn t enough, Simpl has some of the nicest, sweetest, most genuine, best service staff I have encountered - not just in Toronto but globally (I am fortunate enough to have a job that does give me an opportunity to travel the world to experience some of the best restaurants internationally so I know amazing when I see it). Simpl, all I want to say is Toronto (and Parkdale) is so lucky to have you, keep doing what you are doing because you are AMAZING!!!!
Cozy spot with fab food, drinks and service. Had a great lunch and can t wait to try the dinner menu too. The homemade pastas were amazing, especially the short rib tagliatelle. I also did a catering order for a staff party and Evelyn was so helpful to curate a delicious menu that took food allergens into account.
Daytime (Past Cartl), Nighttime/Late Night (Eats by Betty) or just cocktails, Simpl things delivers in all areas. The space itself is beautiful, and every single dish & cocktail has that extra level of thought. The owners, chefs & staff are all incredible, inviting and make you feel like family. I ve already been 5+ times since they ve opened & I will continue to frequent often. Not only because of the quality of the food and drink but because of the people who run it. Would encourage everyone to check it out!!!
Amazing food, amazing staff and most of all, the best chef Betty!!
Funky space, lovely staff and the food... ...it was eye-poppingly good. We shared 4 dishes and each one of them was amazing. Finally, a shoutout to the cocktails, which were also so surprisingly different and delicious!
Croquettes and the pappardelle were great, but the duck dumplings broth could have used a bit more seasoning. Drinks were pretty good too, especially the canned ones.
A very high quality 12oz Ribeye cooked perfectly FOR $45?!!!! Beef tartar + bone marrow = is the staple dish for a VERY good reason! From the Popcorn mushrooms, cauliflower bao, each dish that came out was just as good as the next. It all gets tied together with great cocktails, company, and ambience. Undisputedly; 5 stars.
SIMPL THINGS is an exceptional establishment. The service, food, drinks, and overall vibe are great. We visited during brunch. The food is fresh, delicious, and the portions are huge. They make a lot (if not all) items in-house. I still cant get over the homemade sourdough and confit tomato. Well be back for lunch and dinner asap. Thank you for the wonderful dining experience.
Pasta Cartl review: you can reserve a table for weekend brunch -- nuff said! Okay, fine, Ill elaborate on the excellent daytime menu: fish croquetas (2 for $9) are spectacular. And although the tagliolini ($19) is almost overwhelmed by a heavy-handed black peppering, the pasta is absolutely perfectly-textured with plenty of plump mushrooms and cheese. Difficult to twirl -- but I didnt regret it. Chef Cody knows flour. Going to return soon to try the sandwiches. Canned house-made soft drinks are excellent ($7) and served with a flourish. Simpl things (space) review: Gorgeous art deco inspired interior design. Comfy padded banquette. Nice main floor washroom. Eats by Betty, youre up next! (The evening Taiwanese restaurant... messaged them for a reservation as it seems impossible on the website)
