800 Sheppard Ave E, Toronto, ON M2K 1C3, Canada
This shop offers fresh seafood, plus Japanese groceries & a wide selection of rolls & nigiri to-go.
I believe the management has changed. Horrible service. Due to traffic (Taylor Swift days) I entered the Shop 6.59 I was picking salmon an Asian girl came to ask me to be quick they would not slice the salmon in a quite menacing tone. I have been a long-term regular client for more than 5 years. The service and the staff's cheerful reaction when service was denied was nothing less than pitiful.
I've been looking for a place with good sushi grade fish and I'm glad I found Taro's. We got organic salmon, chu-toro and o-toro and they were all very fresh and tasty. I'll definitely be back!
Best place to buy sushi grade sashimi! I really like how you can pick your own piece of fish and have it sliced or made into sushi for you. Lots of fresh options but do come early cause some options do sell out fast. You can also purchase other frozen seafoods or Japanese items at the store. Service is also amazing as well!
Very high tech compared to when it first opened. You are given a beeper and get beeped when your order is ready so you can go shopping. Lots of young staff who were helpful. Atmosphere was that of a fast food joint, but then, it is not a sit down restaurant. Parking was not easy to come by. I parked in a non-spot. Fish was very fresh, 5*. Now comes the less than 5* critique: I bought a beautiful piece of bluefin otoro, thee fattest piece in the fridge and had it sliced for me. The slicing was butchered; I have never had slices that were already falling apart when I opened the tray and fell apart when I picked them up with my chopsticks. No complaints about the fish itself, but the preparation was very disappointing. The chef could not have been very experienced; someone more skilled needed to have handled that piece of otoro. Nigiri sushi: again, fish was very fresh, taste was good, but the rice fell apart when picked up. The sushi rice tasted a little dry compared to what I have had at other restaurants. I shall go back because the fish is so fresh. Perhaps next time, I shall try to slice the fish myself. I did phone to speak to the manager. She was very polite and pleasant and told me she would speak to the slicing chef, an apprentice and taste the sushi rice. There was no sushi/sashimi mixed platter. I would have appreciated that. Edit: Returned. Sushi rice disappointing -- on dry side Will just buy fish and slice myself for sashimi
Amazing place for fresh sashimi takeout! A large variety of cuts, with the option for having it sliced and/or with rice. They also sell sushi/sashimi rolls/sets/trays to go. It’s not cheap, but seems comparable to sushi restaurants and arguably has better quality than most places. It’s usually quite busy, but service is fast!
I finally went to visit Taro and his fish. I went on a week day with my S.O. during lunch time and it was popping. I was immediately drawn to the wall of fridges which offered a variety of fresh seafood selection. We wanted to try them all, but our wallet did not allow us. We ended up picking chu-toro SS (medium fatty tuna), o-toro SS (fatty tuna), organic salmon, scallop, and hamachi (yellowtail). We asked the sushi chef to slice it up real good. While we waited for them to prepare the sashimi, we browsed the frozen food selection. Some items that caught my eye included the teriyaki salmon head and the prepackaged spicy ramen. After the fish was ready to go, we also grabbed two packs of cooked sushi rice for $3 each. The total was around $155. The amount of food fed my S.O and I for two meals each. We ended up doing a "home-akase" (omakase at home) and made our own handrolls. We got the nori at a local grocery store, but Taro also carries this. The quality of the fish was on par with omakase in Toronto. A fun date idea for half the price of going out.
This was one of the best sushi’s I’ve ever had! It was really fresh and tasty, and they had a really good variety! We have got the sushi for two from the menu, it was really enough for two person and I loved the selection. I suggest ordering on the phone in advance before going directly there as it might takes some time to prepare it.
Product/Service: 5/5 Amazing quality sushi and sashimi. If only I lived closer then this would be my go-to Japanese take out spot. Service is great, and although we had to wait, it was well worth it. Top notch. Location: 4/5 Better for driving. Parking was okay when we got there but I could see that it probably gets full sometimes. Price: 5/5 Reasonable prices for fresh sushi. Atmosphere: 4/5 Clean supermarket style. Definitely a great concept.
Fresh uni and sashimi!!!
Yum
Real good Japanese take away
Good place
Clean efficient environment with well-made seafood treats. Many items are ready to take out, and many more can be ordered for immediate preparation. Food
Fantastic deluxe sushi. Pricey compared to other options.
Freshest sashimi in the GTA especially the scallops and bluefin tuna (otoro). Not cheap but worth every penny. When you pay ask them to slice it for you. You can also order nigiri sushi a la carte if buying the large pieces in bulk is too much in portion. Just know the chef goes on lunch break 1230-130 so no sushi made during that time period.
I think there was a management change. The place has been revamped so its more of an assembly line. Sometimes, they dont have the basics in stock like the fatty tuna. I hope its been resolved. Prices on the higher end but tough to tell the quality difference. The bonus is that they still slice it for you. Vegetarian options: Its a fish shop but there are a few things Dietary restrictions: Confirm with staff Parking: Small lot. Park on side street if full Kid-friendliness: You could bring your kid but its a take out place Wheelchair accessibility: Sure. There wont be a washroom
Drove out of my way to get sushi here!
Good sushi grade fish!
Delicious and authentic Japanese food, highly recommended!
Lots of choices of fish, fresh and tasty. I wish they had sittings for grab and eating.
I come here every week for sashimi, sushi and fresh rolls. Ive yet to find a better place in Toronto. Parking: Theres usually at least a few parking spots available.
Super fresh and amazing Japanese food
We used to frequent this store weekly but after the service my dad received I have not been back since and instead go to another store that values our business. I would recommend them treating ALL customers with respect.
Great place. Excellent products.
Best place to buy take home sashimi! Salmon tasted great and the octopus was bouncy and delicious! Sometimes they have uni but not today. I always like coming here for sashimi and their tako wasabi when I m in the area and love that they slice it on the spot. The rolls are good as well but sell out quickly and last call is 1 hour before closing. The staff were friendly and efficient!
Good fish
Fresh and delicious fish. Price is fair, no need for tips and quality service from staff.
Great service
If you are looking to get fresh sashimi and seafood, this is the best spot in the GTA region.
Legit Japanese food. Love it
swag 1 hunnid million
Great sushi and fish market. Very fresh and authentic. Get there early or order in advance cause this place always has long lineups.
Great fresh fish and a selection of Japanese snacks, drinks, noodles and other grocery items. Sushi is the big draw with the sashimi being a standard higher than other sushi places. Prices reflect this, so keep that in mind.
This is the only place we go for takeout sushi. Fish is incredibly fresh always. Make sure to order ahead if picking up for dinner, they run out fast!
Real Japanese Sushi very fresh high quality fish as good sushi as you would get served in a high class Japanese Resturant - not cheap but very good value Parking: Lots out front
The best place for fresh sashimi.
High quality food and helpful staff.
I love this place. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with the sounds from Persona, and other video game music. Chefs kiss. The times that we have gone is for the fresh sashimi grade fish. The employees will cut the fish for you in any way you would like, free of charge. Friendly, speedy service and the atmosphere make this a great place for anyone that is looking for fresh Japanese ingredients.
Great place for sashimi and sushi!!
such a cute shop, with deliciously fresh fish. lots of great options. i had the salmon sashimi with rice. i can t wait to come back and see what else they have! staff were all very nice, especially the girl cashing me out at the front. she helped me find a salmon cut that was more along the belly; my favourite!
Yummy salmon sashimi
Great tasting and excellent service, but imo overpriced
Its a take out fish store, and some other, small amount of Japanese food. The fish are fresh, and the food Sushi and chirashi that we had were one of the finest in Toronto. Loved the food.
The shopkeeper was extremely rude. He got very upset when I asked for an extra soy sauce and the sushi I ordered was very mediocre considering the price they charged.
Friendly service, fresh fish and sushi. Would definitely recommend!
I always get my fish here. The cuts are always fresh but just make sure you go there early so you can select what you want, I once go there around 5pm and theres almost nothing to shop from.
My favourite place to grab sushi grade fish. Love the service too!
I started buying their seafood since they were in J-Town when their price was much more lower than now. Their fish and seafood is always good. Service was also very good in the Japanese style i.e. staff always greeted customers with pleasant smile. The overall experience was very authentic and good! Still bought a lot since they moved to Sheppard at the the beginning. However, they cut their business day to just 4 days a week, and only operates from 12pm - 6pm, which is very inconvenient. Price is so high that I can easily enjoy an authentic Japanese meal at the restaurant with the same amount of money. Looks like they forgot their set up is just a Japanese fish market, which offers fresh fish at good deals! But their choice of fish or seafood is very limited, and overpriced. Sad to see they lost the Japanese way of doing business.
I hate it that they arent open all week long! If you are sashimi obsessed, this might be the place for you! Seafood is fresh and definitely cheaper than getting sashimi in a restaurant. I drive by everyday when I get off work. Its hard not to go in there to pick up a little treat myself dinner. Parking: They dont have lots of parking spots, but people are there to pick up and go. Even at a busy time, you usually will be able to get a parking if you wait for a few minutes. I almost always able to find parking most of the time I get there.
The best salmon sashimi Ive found in the area! Great selection of other great Japanese food too. Friendly helpful service every time.
Food always fresh, staff are very nice and efficient. Store gets packed on weekends and so does the free parking lot.
The store doesn t have a menu, just a QR code for you to scan. There s an issue with the website, and the menu doesn t open after scanning with a phone. have no idea what they are selling.
My go to sushi place. Freshest fish and at affordable prices!! I also love the mochi and organic natto they have! Wish they were open 7 days a week hahaha, I could get take out every day.
Fast food restaurant service with high quality ingredients. Hold lower expectations.
Once a week it s a sushi night, Taro s on Sheppard is our favourite and only place!! Always fresh!!!! Food
Highly recommended for fresh sashimi! Pick up the ingredient and you can ask a staff to cut them into sashimi pieces. Go early as this place gets packed real fast as soon as it opens. Or put an order ahead of time.
The taste really went down... Did not know ownership changed nor did I know it got remodeled so I was happy about the remodeling. The quality of the sushi was very below average, there was a very fishy smell from some fishes which I never experienced back from the higher quality taro I know. We spent over 180$+ dollars for my wifes birthday but I wouldve been more satisfied at an all-you-can-eat sushi instead or drive further to a chain sushi restaurant.
A cute fish market with fresh selection of seafood to create your own chirashi. We pair our chirashi with a maki roll, takoyaki, croquette or fried salmon. The fried salmon is simply seasoned but so tasty! I also love the daifuku. Its sweet, soft and chewy. Kinda feels like a little piece of Japan in Toronto.
I feel overrated. Taste is like normal Japanese food in Toronto. I ordered Tuna sashimi and salmon sushi, price is higher than others restaurant but taste is not meet my expectation, not really fresh.
Best/Freshest sushi grade salmon and tuna options in the city. Second to none! This place is incredible. Wow.
I have been to this store twice now, and I pretty much timed my second trip to Toronto to ensure it was within the operating hours of this location- its incredibly clean, the selection of fish/ the cuts are quite impressive and freshness cannot be beat, they also regularly stock nishin kazunoko which is a personal fav. As well as frozen selection of frozen specialties I tried a $12 bowl of chirashi to tie us over while we brought our fish to build hone and it was very fresh and tasty as well. Ps their bathroom is magnificent
If you want fresh sushi and sashimi, I highly recommend Taros Fish. The products are excellent quality. You will probably pay more for their food but it is worth it.
Change in ownership is apparent, because there was minimal stock in the fridge (there used to be a lady bringing fresh fish out often). Missing the organic salmon, some tunas, other fish. The regular salmon (in terms of the cut) did not look as good as Galleria supermarket at York Mills and Don Mills. Farm raised. For seaweed, the hand roll one was $4.00 but for the whole sheets, it was over $20 for one! New layout, making it more an assembly line for the sushi platters. Its not Jiro from Japan the master sushi chef. Service always efficient. They will cut up the fish for you, give some wasabi. You just need to let them know how many chopsticks and soy sauce packets you want. Vegetarian options: Its sushi. You can probably get egg but check website Dietary restrictions: Yes. Parking: Small parking lot. If full, park on side street Kid-friendliness: Sure. Its a takeaway place and supermarket. Its not a restaurant. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes. Not sure about the broader shopping plaza
Sushi is really fresh. During my recent experience, I encountered a staff member named Gloria who displayed crude behavior when I asked for extra soy sauce alongside our four trays of sushi. Rather than responding courteously, Gloria showed a lack of enthusiasm in fulfilling our request. And said : it s not healthy for eating salty. Glorias behavior left a negative impression on my experience, emphasizing the importance of professional conduct in customer service.
Very unhappy experience. Bad service and food is not fresh at all. They are very rude to me.
This is a place I go to often. I m satisfied.
We went for the first time even though I had researched this place for a long time. The quality and freshness was awsome and they had basically everything. If you have lived in japan you get the feeling that you are in japan and the staff were all very friendly. I would definitely drive there again if I have to order sashimi for my parties!
Fresh ingredients and friendly services! Must try.
This place is the best. The fish is very fresh. I have ordered sushi and sashimi from here numerous times and they never disappoint! Highly recommend! Parking: Parking is available though it sometimes can be a bit busy.
Uni, Hamachi, tamago, tuna, otoro, bluefintuna and chutoro are fresh. Great place for fresh seafood. You can select the fish and ask them to slice it up. .Staff are very helpful and friendly.
when to buy some sushi, the shop was closed at 4:30 while it was supposed to open till 6. I burn gas and wasted my time. Extremely disappointed!
Great sushi!
Youve found it. The absolute best in the city. No question. The only place where Ill buy fish for tartare.
Ordered a sushi platter from here after hearing how amazing the place is. Always saw a line up around the corner for this place. I am not sure if we are just unlucky but our platter had a terrible moody smell coming from the tuna and shrimp sushi, the salmon had a terrible almost rotten fishy smell to it. I am not sure if they used old fish or if they made our platter and left it out for the day (our pick up time was 530pm) but we had to throw the entire platter away. It smelled and tasted horrible. Would not recommend.
Fresh fish. You can call and pre order for pick up. They don t have a lot of fancy torched options (which I would suggest added) but the fish quality is ridiculously good.
Very very expensive place with medium level of quality. Same as other places but with very higher price. They even charge you for wasabi. Sushi roll is $20 and they dont have even place to sit.
My go to place for sushi and sashimi take out
Very expensive and constantly out of stock excellent quality Food
Love this place! Great products and amazing service, literally addicted. The people here are super kind and personable. I wont waste my time elsewhere when I know I will receive the best from Taros every time.
Been with Taro for many years and each time bought $100+ worth sashimi. But since last year, we felt everything changed in Taro s both locations. The variety of seafood and the service are all different now, and to be honest, very disappointing.
Amazing sushi you can t get for even close to price at a restaurant and most likely not close to the quality.
Very fresh.
The rolls were yummy and fresh. The chai was ok if you look for free sugar cold drink. Food
Great selections, great people, cant complain. (Cant give 5 stars because it was my first visit and just like proposing to a girl after a first date, giving 5 stars after the first visit will be awkward to say the least).
one Chirashi bowl: two starts PRO: plenty of rice CON: not my favorite of some of the single small piece sizes of some kind of fish. Not liking the textures. One piece not sure what kind of fish it is. It was so chewy, Id to spit it out. That goes for 2 pieces of Tako, chewy also. Freshness is acceptable. Kind of disappointed with the unknown quality & quantity of the fish combination. One piece of Yellowfin Tuna...pretty Fresh & tasty...4 stars One piece of Tako...nice, soft & Fresh...quite tasty...4 stars 2 small containers of Tobiko...very good & Fresh...my favorite. Total costs: $72.88
The seafood is fresh and cheap considering the great quality. Uni sashimi is absolutely highly recommended and the they offer slicing as well... Service is good, only take out, but staff are helpful foe sure.
A not so well kept secret in the GTA! One of my go to places for catering or quick Chrashi bowl takeout .. check their hours, and reserve in advance! Polite + helpful staff made stellar recommendations.
Fresh
Great selection of fresh fish to go. There Sushi to go to is a bit expensive but worth it!!!
Cashier was not only ignorant but also arrogant. Another store associate was rude and unfriendly to customers but Ill forgive her because I can tell she had neck and shoulder pain.
10/10 THE best spot for sushi. I ll fight you over it. Best selection, freshest fish, crisp seaweed, rice is perfectly sweet and the people are even sweeter
The sushi were fresh, especially the Chutoro (medium fatty tuna). Will definitely try more next time.
Delicious sushi grade fish for homemade sushi
Knowing it was close to last call, tried ordering by phone and was told to come in to choose my fish. Got there and was told the kitchen was closed. I wasnt ordering from the parking lot, so why bother telling me to come if you cant serve? Waste of time
Good place to find sashimi grade fish. One star off because the choices of the fish getting less and less also the slice skill is not that good if u want them to slice the fish for u. Generally still good to go.
I have been here a couple times, I was recommended here by a sibling. The seafood here is fresh. A huge selection when it comes to sushi rolls and maki rolls. Very knowledgable people, ask questions and you will be answered. A very great place to go to for your fresh sushi platters or fresh sashimi platters! Parking: Lots of parking!
The quality of the food was amazing but it was the not real poke I ordered one and got salmon on rice with other thing no sauce no veggies just the rice and salmon. The quality is really good but it was a boring dish
Fish tastes fresh and chirashi bowls presentation is on point, with some tamago made in house which is difficult to find. The rice is marinated well with a slightly sweet rice vinegar, however I felt the meat to rice proportions were off. Follow @bredgyeats for more food posts!
I go to Taro s when I want to make special sushi, ie with chutoro, otoro, hamachi, Hokkaido scallops, and specialty seafood for sushi or sashimi.
They always have a good selection and their seafood is fresh and delicious. They will also slice it for you into whatever size you want (including thinly sliced for crudo) for free. Prices are reasonable considering what you are getting.
This is your one stop shop for a sushi date night or sushi party with friends at home. SSS Otoro and chutoro were the best tuna sashimi I ve had in Canada, and I have had a lot. They restock the fish throughout the day - I arrived at 5pm, browsed around the store for a bit and when I circled back to the tuna fridge, I saw newer and better selection. You can buy seasoned sushi rice for $3/pack. Note: unless you own a long Japanese knife that s meant to cut meat/fish, I would just ask them to cut it for you since Otoro especially is quite delicate and will break apart if not cut by a razor sharp blade.
It was ok. It did not really meet my expectations, but still 4 stars. I ordered the assorted Nigiri, I think I ordered 9-10 of the different sorts, so that was like 18-20 pieces of sushi! The number thing I noticed was the rice of the nigiri, it was really thin and because of that the fish above it is loose, at least for some of them, and when you try to pick them up they are not united as a sushi should be... Also, I did not like particularly the Mackerel, I did try the mackerel sashimi in Tokyo and the one here had a stronger smell and taste. I believe I ordered one in Miku here in Toronto, and it did not have the same taste and smell... I obviously ordered the different slices of Tuna: Otoro, CHutoro and Maguro and it was good, I think there one or two slices that was kind of not as fresh, it was kind of soggy, but considering I am eating them in Toronto, so it was relatively good but not the best in Toronto, the one I tried in Miku was amazing... I will probably try them one more time and see but this time in the Woodbine area.
The only place I go for sushi and sushi grade fish. Always fresh fish, always amazing service.
Kept hearing how good this place was, so decided to give it a try. It a small fish/sushi shop, located in a small plaza. Parking is very difficult to find. Generous fish portion, although we thought it tasted only okay.
Such a great business model with wonderful fish selection and good prices. Tbh the best place to get sashimi in North York imo
Super fresh fish, the best place to buy sashimi in Toronto Make sure to go before 6pm. Food
The store is closed for renovation. They should reflect that on their Google listing.
Super fresh sashimi which you could customize different kinds of fish that you like! Highly recommend this place!
on the pricier side but worth every penny. Super fresh fish as none of them tasted fishy, like red tuna. The sushi rice is done perfectly to my liking, not too warm, not too much vinegar taste. No sit down area so be prepared to do take out.
I always get the Hamachi kama on the way home from work. Good quality and ok prices.
they always have what you want, good quality
Taro Fish has the best quality, freshest fish in the city. I enjoy their rolls and premade sets but what makes Taro Fish amazing is that you can take top quality sashimi to have at home or have them slice it for you in store. Its great to choose exactly what you want and customize your own meals. The only issue I have is that wasabi and ginger arent included and its always a struggle to get enough soy sauce (the only condiment thats complimentary with your fish purchase). Everytime I go to Taro Fish, I spend at least $200 so it would be nice to have wasabi, ginger and soy sauce provided (enough for the amount of fish bought) for a family sashimi dinner. Other than that, I love their products!
The fish was super fresh and delicious.
Taros fish is perfect for real sushi lovers. You can choose from a wide, fresh variety of fish and shellfish you can use to create your own unique sushi and sashimi platters! Torched Salmon, Squid, scallops you name it. They offer a great cut for you service. They also sell a ton of other Japanese cooking products and side dishes to pair perfectly with your meals. The pickled scallions, tako-wasabi, seaweed salad and even Japanese Milk Bread can all be found here! Not only that but they also sell a bunch of frozen fish, Miso Marinated Frozen Cod that measures up to any fancy restaurant for a half of the price. 10/10 couldn t recommend this place more!!!
A very good fish market, can buy sashimi!!!
Freshest stuff in the GTA. And good variety too. Thats why they have multiple locations now. A one stop shop for all things sushi/sashimi/Japanese related!
Great high quality sushi takeout spot in Toronto. Friendly and busy. Order before you go. I have coming here for years. Lots of free parking. You can hand pick whole pieces of tuna, salmon, yellowtail etc from their fridge and ask them to cut it into sushi or sashimi on a takeout platter. Great idea for parties.
went to go buy sushi grade salmon, it was the freshest salmon Ive ever had and it was a reasonable price, highly recommend, so delicious
I am so disappointed. It is my second time to have diarrhoea after eating the fish here. I ordered tuna and salmon this time. Last time I thought it was just an accident since this is a reputable restaurant. So I gave it a try again. I didn t get diarrhoea by having salmon and tuna sashimi from other restaurants. This restaurant should really be careful with the food quality and cleanliness. After having diarrhoea and getting sick for two times from this ..never again.
Great food, fresh.
Great assortment of high-end sushi grade fish. Very friendly and helpful staff. Choose your fish and they will slice and arrange. Awesome!
My go to place for fresh sashimi and sushi!
I wouldnt be exaggerating if I said the sushi they offer is among the best I have ever had, if not THE best sushi Ive ever had! Absolutely heavenly!.. I tried Taros sushi for the first time in 2015 and didnt get to try it again until today, and just as I remember it, premium quality!
Waited 50 minutes for an order
I love coming here to get fish. There is always a wide variety to choose from. I would recommend going early since it does get busy during lunch time.
great fresh and they have a wide variety of sushi and sashimi available Parking: a lot of parking is available, but it is shared with the other establishments beside it.
Wow. Awesome experience. I ve walked by this place a couple of times but wanted to give it a try for the first time today. I picked up the sashimi platter from the fridge section $40. It was a bit pricey but honestly much better quality than what you d find at restaurants. The main attraction was the tuna. It wasn t terribly defrosted and bland like most places. I d say the freshness and taste rivals to at of Vancouver sushi. Worth the price if you re in the mood for good quality fish
a little pricey but obv you get what you pay for! Good selection of high quality Japanese ingredients!! My only Major knock is its cashless Who turns down cash in this economy ?!?!?
Clean sushi grade fish..well staffed and helpful..probably the best selection in the GTA for Japanese seafood.. wish their prices were better and more affordable.
I bought a bunch of sushi tonight. With all the positive reviews I have to say I was a bit disappointed. Like its fresh but it tastes really, really fishy. Also the salmon and some of the tuna all had hard white, chewy pieces that made them inedible for me. I would have expected leaner cuts. I dont even feel like finishing it, when is crazy considering how much I like sushi. It could be it was a bad day, but considering the hype, I wont go out of my way to buy it.
Good sushi at reasonable prices. Would love to try more of their other items and offerings.
Bought some sushi grade salmon, tuna, tobiko, etc. to make homemade sushi. The quality of the fish is very good. They will also slice up the fish into ready to eat sushi, if you ask. We also tried their takeout platters - theyre pricier than most sushi places, but the quality is better and tastes better.
Absolutely splendid! Taro has never let me down when it comes to fresh fish and selection. Been a customer since the days of j town. I love being able to pick what I want from the fridge and having everything sliced to my liking while I waited. Service is always pleasant. Do note the new hours...theyre only open 4 days a week now. Will not hesitate to recommend!!
Small local seafood market with top quality fish perfect for sushi making. We ll usually select a few varieties and have the fish cut sashimi style, bring home and make our own poke bowls. They also carry other sushi making ingredients and imported Japanese goodies.
Excellent Chirashi Don! Great service when you order online - my order was ready when I arrived.
Was reluctant because of price. Best sushi Ive had in a while.
Great place to get fresh, delicious sushi. There are different set platters you can pre-order 24 hours ahead of time or in store if you re willing to wait a little while they are prepared. The sashimi are fresh and they can slice them for you while you wait. The place can get busy but staff are efficient and friendly.
Lots of fresh fish, parking is a little difficult. But great place to find good sushi/sashimi.
Order was prompt, good communication, food was fresh, employees were courteous, As of October 2022 - only debit or credit is accepted as payment.
DIY sushi has never been easier
They have more selections, sometimes they even have some fish you have never heard of. But you have to pick a right time to go there. Long line up on the weekends and they only open 4 days a week. Quality wise, cant complain. They are very good.
Busy place with a wide selection of fresh seafood. Never disappoints my cravings. Super nice staff as well. Go at lunchtime so you get more options since everything goes out of the door fast! Parking: Not a lot of parking spaces, but people tend to make short stay so its not too bad.
By far the best sushi in the city Hands down. I tried a lot of places but no one can compare to these guys. Mouthwatering melt in your mouth fresh sushi. I ve recommended many friends and I will continue to suggest to everybody. Very high-quality delicious made with love and care. They are only open four days a week which is the only downfall
Great selection of quality seafood and other Japanese products to go!
Very fresh fish and sea urchin, we also bought natto, etc. They are all good. We will go there again in the future.
Got a piece of ocean trout and a premade sashimi platter today, which came out to just under $90. The ocean trout was nice and fresh. The premade platter, not so much. The torched pieces of fish were mushy, the salmon and tuna were old and oxidized, (only noticed once we got home and under good light. Note that the store has fairly dim lighting) and the worst part is my dad got diarrhea after eating the platter for lunch. Totally not worth it since spending $90 at almost any other sushi restaurant will net you a platter (granted, its way less variety) that is fresher and more filling.
Have Returned. Highly Recommended. Countless, countless times ever since I found out about this fresh fish market. The quality is as consistent as if youre in Japan, though prices have recently skyrocketed. I would recommend coming no later than 45mins prior to closing or you will not have the full selection available (but they will sometimes re-fill right before closing). Tuna - skip the low end Toro. If youre going to do it, go straight for SSS. The rest is mid, but sometimes rarely, youll find a SS that is SSS. $35- $50+ Salmon - One of the best value cuts. $12 -$16 Hamachi - Great cuts are available unfortunately theyre all huge blocks of $25-$40. Aji/Sickleback - Great value cut. $9 Scallops - Super fresh, sweet and firm texture. $12 - $16 ShimeSaba - Top 2 buys from this place, especially if you like Mackerel. Super high value buy. $9 - $12 They sell pre-made, rice, vinegar, soy-sauce, frozen ramen, some drinks. They have it all, including cutting your fish into nigiri or sashimi slices. They also sell perfectly made shari/sushi rice for $3 to save you the trouble. So plan your next omakase here! Takes AMEX.
Very awesome local fish and seafood shops. Have chef onsite to cut fish or sashimi and lots of related products to buy from. You can order sushi rolls or poke bowls from here. We order the seafood don at the end. The seafood don is loaded with fresh sashimi taste fantastic. With soy sauce I finish everything within minutes. Definitely will come again if have time.
Excellent food and quality. A bit pricy but satisfied.
Nice seafood place! You can choose what sashimi you want and they can do the slicing for free. Only open from Wednesday to Saturday. Hope they can open more days!
I bought zirashi don and the taste was great. I come here very often. All items are fresh.
Fresh sashimi, but very expensive
if you have been to The Tokyo fish market it is very difficult to find anthing like that in Toronto. But Taros does very well with range of products in a small establishment in North York .Friendly manager and staff they are very helpful and the fish is wonderful. The prices are similar to Tokyo but this is gormet food.Happy feasting
Food and services are of high quality, but the selection is limited
i love taro s fish!! honestly saved me so much money from ordering sushi and the fish is always super fresh. parking is really hard to find though, the parking lot is always full so sometimes you d have to wait a while or park on one of the side streets
Quality, clean and organized. This is a better option than going to a Japanese restaurant. You can pick your sashimi and get them to slice them for free.
Fish is really fresh. Price is on the expensive side but totally worth it. Be prepared it s long line up.
