3365 Yonge St, Toronto, ON M4N 2M4, Canada
Maki, rolls & sashimi are prepared at the namesake bar in this snug spot also offering rice dishes.
Sushi Bar, just north of Yonge & Eglinton, has been a neighbourhood staple since 2009! Jimi & Ju consistently serve up delicious sushi, and the staff are always warm and welcoming. A perfect balance between casual and upscale dining.
I have been a customer for a number of years and have yet to be disappointed. The food is consistently good, the service is consistently warm and welcoming, and the R&B music is excellent! We have dined in and ordered takeout. Our children are fans, as are our grandchildren.
Everyone at The Sushi Bar is so wonderful, friendly and kind. The sushi is my favourite in the city and the atmosphere is always very welcoming. It sort of feels like coming to hang out with your friends/family when you go here! I always recommend this spot to others. I really can't emphasize enough how much I love The Sushi Bar! I'm eating the spicy tuna and avocado roll right now.
Small sushi bar serving great white and brown rice maki, sushi & sashimi. Small seating area. The owners Jimmie and Jun are great. Sushi is fresh and the have wonderful brown rice tea and delicious miso soup.
We ordered from skip the dishes and we are very disappointed. The rolls were falling apart, very poor rolling technique. There was no proportion for the fish size across the rolls. The avocado had black spots. None of the spicy rolls were spicy, not even a bit and everything was very dry. There was barely any seasoning to the rice. Not to mention that they barely put any soy sauce in the container and I have never seen such a small amount of miso soup before. I do not recommend at all, and very disappointed.
Starter: crunching spicy tuna, sqiud and jellyfish Apps: beef gyoza Mains: Teriyaki and rice Tokyo sashimi Platter Desert: Japanese cheesecake All good teriyaki sauce quite strong flavor, but good. Beef gyozas were good...the complimentary 3 taster was a nice surprise...
A hidden gem sushi joint with superb sushi at an affordable price. The staff is friendly, helpful, and generous. I was not expecting such great sushi for a spot that we randomly stumbled across. My family and I decided to have dinner here after another sushi place down the road was takeout only. Some of our favorite dishes were the sashimi yuki, hamachi kama, lobster roll, and sashimi dinner. All of the sushi looked aesthetically pleasing and tasted very fresh/wonderful. The inside is not very large so it wouldn’t be great for a large party but definitely can fit a table of 6. They also have a full bar with beers, saki, and some high end whiskeys. I Highly recommend.
This sushi bar place has been my go-to sushi joint since 2016-2017. Many years we have either go there for casual dinner, anniversary dinner, school lunch, takeout , birthdays and etc. This is a family run business. The owners are always working very hard and their food is always taste very good, very fresh, good looking, pack with quality. The master chef is Japanese, if it is a deal breaker to some of you. He had years of training back from Japan. His Miso soup is amazing! And I am telling you this because I have been to Japan eating those sushi bars ;Tokyo, Hokkaido, and Kawaguchiko. Sushi bar miso soup beats all of them. We love their Salmon Sushi pizza a lot. Unagi topping Sushi pizza is also very good. I like their Yukke dish. Here are the list of some of our favourite; Hotate sushi, saba sushi, , salmon hand roll, spicy salmon roll and black dragon roll. They also have many rare Japanese whisky to offer, sake, soju and Asahi black!
Feel like in Japan. I really enjoy the sushi here.
The omakase was a fabulous experience, servers were fun and efficient and the atmosphere was more like a party with everyone getting a greeting and a goodbye.
Best sushi ever! Food amazing! Staff amazing! Great experience!
This is the best Sushi spot in Toronto! Highly recommend. Staff is amazing and very welcoming.
Exceptional Japanese food that is fresh and original. The staff make you feel like family.
We found this lovely sushi place last weekend, and it was fantastic. The tuna tartare was excellent, and the sushi was delicious. The staff was super friendly, and the atmosphere was charming. We cant wait to go back! :)
Excellent sushi and service
Best sushi in Toronto
Im so grateful for this place. The staff was so unbelievably kind and gave maybe the best quality sushi Ive had. So glad that I found it as I was passing through town.
Been here multiple times, food is always fresh and service is top-notch. Will definitely return!
Great vibe and service! Sushi was fresh and served very fast. We left with a smile on our faces. A friend of mine said that there is a sushi restaurant that we always go to together with. Its his cousins restaurant, but I didnt know it was here I just Googled it and found it, but I never thought it would be here... We decided to go again together next time. I promise haha. Ill see you again next time. It was a good meal!
It was a great evening!!! The decor needs an update but I m a designer so I can t help noticing. The food & music and the service couldn t get better!!! We shared so we were able to try a lot!! I m not one for the exotic fish but my husband enjoyed all but one it was a salad scallop, but that s just a personal taste. Not sure of the cost as he paid but it seemed to be competitive. Beautiful presentation for sure!!! We ll be back for sure!!
Great sushi!
Absolutely a neighborhood gem.
Consistently the best sushi experience I have had in Toronto. The tuna tartare, Passover roll & kamikaze are some of the most unique dishes. The fish is always fresh & well prepared with love & attention to detail, the staff really cares about their product & their guests. Such a cozy, unique spot. I love it.
The best sushi in town !!!!!!!!!!!!
Had a great meal with my father this evening. Everything here is 5 STAR!!
really like this place. Torched sushi is awesome. Super friendly staff and great daily specials. My favorite sushi in the Young / Lawrence area.
Got the udon with soba, it was very salty not good. Had a few bites, stopped. Wasn t asked if it was okay. Sushi was decent. Not 4.6 star review imo.
This is one of the sushi place the I go when I m craving for sushi
Every time I come back to Toronto this is a must visit.
Excellent food and environment!
Beautiful restaurant, delicious food, and very nice people. Also have some great whisky
Great food, great service, and ambiance. The owner is also a good businessman. Love the specials. Especially the lobster roll and black cod. The clam is on the salty side so dont drink the base like soup. The food is the most important to me. Fish is fresh and rice is well prepared. Definitely worth the trip.
Very homely type of feeling when you walk in. Staff are extremely nice, helpful and friendly. I went here with my cousin yesterday and between the both of us, we ordered some rolls, beef dumplings, yam, cheesecake and green tea ice cream. It was a pleasant experience from start to finish.
Friday night sitting here with my family....while a dozen takeout orders have come through, we sat starving. The food came...small portions... missing Wasabi in one roll.ordered more food...more waiting...more pickup orders....will go home to eat.
Friendly service, fresh food, charming wood decor! Solidified as a go-to local spot.
We had a great meal at the Sushi Bar! The food was tasty, and the service was great. Their menu has the standard sushi offerings but also some interesting specials -- Im looking forward to dining in again to give those a try!
After a thought week we stop by as a family to enjoy and reconnect over dinner. I must say, the food was really really good and the quality of the sushi was spot on. We try many places for sushi and we can honestly say that this place is now one of our favorite. Keep up the great service and the quality of food. Looking forward to be back soon again. :-)
the food n music are excellent
Went with my a friend, atmosphere and vibe was a Japanese Izakaya style. Quality of foods are amazing for the price.
Best Sushi place in town!
Great little sushi spot. Fun atmosphere if you eat in. Take out is nice too. Meter parking on Yonge..
Their mixed seafood teriyaki dinner is delicious. I would not recommend the beef or chicken teriyaki.
My favourite sushi restaurant in the neighbourhood! Great service and friendly staff too
The best staff I ve ever encountered!
I have been to many such restaurants but this restaurant stinks so bad. They forget to pack some items in the bag and call us and expect us to come back in an unapologetic manner. Very rude.
Great food with a great aesthetic place. The staff were super nice and greet you in their language which I thought was cool
The staff are always so friendly, the decor is eclectic and the tunes are fun. AND the sushi is great too! Always a good time, and of our favourite local spots.
Had some super delicious chirashi dons here. The wait staff were all really nice and attentive. Some of us were gluten free and had food allergies and theyre very accommodating.
Incredibly good foid, fish is fresh and tasty and specials are delicious. One of the few places in the city that have tuna belly
Delicious. Fresh. Authentic. Everything was phenomenal! The sushi and sashimi was served fresh by charismatic and charming staff. I will be coming back for occasions and our regular sushi night.
I ordered Red dragon, squid sushi, and squid sashimi the rice was warm and the sashimi was cold which means it is freshly made! I really like the Red dragon roll! they even offered me a free ice cream it was awesome (it was so hot outside ) people are all nice and friendly I would definitely visit here again:)
Excellent food!! Excellent ambiance! Highly recommended for all Sushi lovers!!
Friendy, comfortable atmosphere. Staff are helpful and quick. Owners are great. Food is full of flavour. Sushi and Sashimi have large pieces of fish with just the right amount of rice. Specials are definitely worth it! A must try, and definitely a regular place to visit.
Amazing atmosphere, very friendly servers and very welcoming! The food was incredibly delicous, the udon has a delicious broth, the sushi tastes very fresh and is very delicious!
We went to this restaurant for two times in a week, the food was fabulous and the service was very good. You must try its miso soup, pizza, hot sake and many other things, you won t be disappointed!
I had Dynamite roll and Salmon tarta. The taste was average and the price was expensive for the quantity.
This has been our go-to sushi place for over a decade. We used to live walking distance, bit even now that were a subway trip away, its still our fave. Delicious, fresh food, super friendly staff and atmosphere.
Omg where do I begin! Our first time and we ordered a platter worth $50! When we got home the size of the sushi was so small, then tasteless, was falling apart when we grabbed them and just very disappointed overall. We have had the best sushi in other places and this just doesn t compare. Even my 7 yr old didn t like it. Cheap to give you such small portions for the price. Same we paid elsewhere and they were huge. Never again! They should really reevaluate what they are doing wrong!
Good food and service.
The black cod sushi ($10 for 2 pieces) is an interesting take on the fish, the nigiri torched tableside so the fish s fat begins to melt forming slight layers in the cod. Being a denser fish, it does need a fair amount of flavour and while the sweet soy was a start, it needed something else for interest. After the experience, I m still on the fence of whether a nigiri is the best use of this prized fish. My preference is still for the baked miso marinated black cod ($15) where the fish is hot and flaky and infused with a slightly sweet umami flavour. The palm-sized portion is just enough for sharing amongst two people. Sushi Bar s other a-la-carte nigiri is just as good with large pieces of barbeque eel on the unagi and a thick slice of ruby red tuna on the maguro (both $7 for 2 pieces). Displaying the lobster on top of the lobster roll ($18) was a great idea as it becomes the first thing you taste, and diners can see the full tail in its glory. However, it was already overcooked and blowtorching it at the table made it even more dry and chewy. Ideally, they should undercook it to begin, and the torching will help heat and finish off the doneness at the table. It s a dish with promise and the thin cucumber lantern a great idea for a beautiful garnish. Starting every meal is a bowl of rice crackers that arrives with drinks, a pre-pandemic tradition that I m glad has been kept, providing something to snack on as we peruse the menu. A new addition is an amuse bouche of seafood, squid, and seaweed salads, enough for a bite each to enjoy while the rest of the meal arrives. As the temperature drops, the complimentary starter is sometimes a rich hot bowl of miso soup with cubes of tofu and seaweed flakes. A welcomed respite after a cool walk to the restaurant. With a variety of maki available, the black dragon ($17) was an interesting take on the fancier dynamite roll. In this case, sweet-glazed barbeque eel, tempura bits, fish roe, and green onion wrapped around the shrimp tempura. It s a colourful creation offering a variety of textures and flavours and it s ideal that the pieces aren t overly large so that they are enjoyed in one bite. The red dragon ($17) is just as good, substituting the barbeque eel for salmon instead. If you re in the mood for shrimp tempura ($8 for 3 pieces), I d recommend having it in maki-form as the fried shrimp by itself is underwhelming, the batter too thick and the temperature tepid at best. Upsold to the tuna tartare roll ($10), we should have stuck with the tried-and-true spicy tuna ($8). In the tartare, the tuna too pulverized and the filling including dreaded tempura bits that causes the roll to become gummy. It also needs more heat to be considered spicy tuna. Despite their name, Sushi Bar also makes a variety of non-sushi dishes. You get a hefty portion of hamachi kama ($19) with the full portion, a meaty cut of the fish s jaw. A thicker cut, there were parts of the fish that could have been done a touch less but being a bone-in piece, it can be hard to gauge. Nevertheless, the skin was crispy and the fish hot and delicious. Served with a radish ponzu soy sauce, a bit more salt sprinkled onto the fish would help it pop.
Amazing food, awesome owner.
Best sushi in the neighbourhood though I have not tried the $200 a plate Japanese restaurant across the street. Great rolls and gyoza, edamame you know the deal. Freshly prepared and tasty. Good value. Wheelchair accessible.
Tasty sushi with great Japanese izakaya sides. Extremely friendly and professional. Definitely recommend!
They need to improve their service to all cutures.
There is a rude and disrespectful girl. As soon as I went to there, the girl started to yell at me. I was there as an uber driver. I did not do anything, just I was getting my bag. I can not understand this behaviour.
Ordered Sushi from here on my daughters recommendation - it was fantastic! very fresh and the portions were of a good size. Order was ready on time and the staff were very friendly ! we will definitely order from here again!!
Nicest people. Came and visited my terminally sick uncle (who was a long time customer) and brought him food.
We had chef special course meal to celebrate our friends birthday. Great presentation and so fresh and delicious.
Superb food, friendly wait staff. Trust Jimmy, the sushi doctor, to give you an authentic and tasty experience
Excellent quality friendly staff and the owner is like a japanese rock star
One of the top Japanese fine dining in GTA. Service is excellent!
Great place, Good quality sushi and cheesecake is nice too !!
Really great food and service. Salmon tartare is fantastic. Everyone was super friendly.
Ordered take out yesterday, sushi was not fresh at all.
Outstanding! Great service and great sushi
Really good wait staff and great tasting sushi. Very nice quality food and comfortable atmosphere. The sashimi was excellent. This is now my new favorite local sushi restaurant.
cute little place with cozy atmosphere and great food!
Go try it! Nothing more I can say... blew my mind!!
very disappointed with the food they served with. although the service is friendly, but still cant accept the sour taste of the un fresh sashimi. I have diarrhea right after having dinner at this place. really upset
Love this little Sushi bar which is conveniently located to where I stay when I visit Toronto. Super friendly staff always makes a delightful visit. Not to mention good sushi with a good quality/value ratio. highly recommend if you are in the area.
Love! Love love love. Sashimi is amazing. Spicy salmon avocado roll is a favorite. This place is the best.
Great service, delicious, fresh food, set in an authentic-looking atmosphere. I most certainly will visit again.
take out during COVID-19. They were closed or almost closing when we arrived but they still took our order with a smile. We ordered green dragon roll (to die for with the green onions and other stuff on top!), Spicy salmon roll (very tasty!), Chicken teriyaki roll (good stuff)
Jimmi (aka Dr. Sushi) has been feeding sushi lovers in the city for well over 20+ years. A North Toronto fixture, he and his wife Jue run the restaurant with much love to for their customers. Platters are definitely great to feed a few. Go Omakase and let him decide what to make for you. Restaurant is fun and full of interesting curios. Be sure to pick up some Japanese snacks on your way out the door!
Fresh food, fair prices, good service.
One of the best sushi places I know in Toronto! And Ive been to quite a few lol
Crazy quality of sushi that I have ever eaten before
Extraordinary services and exceptional sushi - thick cut fish and always fresh. Best sushi in North York!
great food. great service
Excellent service ..delicious sushi. Must go!
Great restaurant, food is always amazing and staff is very friendly.
Food was good, very fresh. A tad pricey
Great service and the sushi pizza is amazing!
Very good food and cozy atmosphere.
The Sushi Bar is a great and busy Japanese joint. The sushi tastes very fresh :) We have been here a couple of times and are always happy with their service and food quality. We tried the sushi, sashimi, unagi, miso soup and the portions are generous. Also tried their cheescake and its fluffy and light as they said. I recommend checking out this restaurant if you like Japanese food.
Staff were friendly and the food was delicious
Service is really excellent! But the food is disappointing :(. I had the udon noodle and the sauce was too sweet. Then I had some sushi rolls, the basic salmon & avocado. It was so bland, it tasted like those sushi you buy in a grocery store.
Sushi was mediocre and pricey for what it was. Sashimi was not the freshest. The service is great and so was the atmosphere but the food is not good enough to deserve a recommendation.
Top quality sushi. Lots of selection and friendly staff. Great atmosphere. Highly recommended :)
Food was good. Service was not as good as usual, but still ok
Best sushi in Toronto! We live in the neighbourhood and we ve been coming here for years. The staff is friendly and the sushi is amazing.
The food was good, small portions, $5 for a small piece of cheese cake though which was disappointing. They gave the white people beside me all free ice cream for reason and didn t even mention anything to me which I thought was off putting.
Excellent sushi, fast service, good price. Highly recommended.
Food is great! Service is good!
Delicious. Great service.
Really good food, fast/ friendly service, reasonable prices.
This is a good neighbourhood family sushi restaurant. Good quality, friendly service, with a decor that oozes with the character from the owners. They also have a small stand at the front of japanese foodstuffs as well. My kids dont let me leave until theyve grabbed some extra hi-chews.
Great food, service and atmosphere
Sushi made above average, but today the fish werent very fresh. Overall, they charge fairly
I had wonderful dinner with my friends. Staffs were friendly and kind, the main chef was professional. Calm and fancy atmosphere,, affordable price. My favorite was salmon sushi. I also recommend to try teriyaki udon! They had half price maki promo on Wednesday. If you wanna enjoy sushi maybe you can visit on Wednesday!
Cozy space, great sushi, and amazing service. Highly recommend
This is THE Sushi bar. From the moment you walk in you feel welcomed. The combination of the authentic wood laden decor and the natural warmth of the staff transports you the choice sushi locals of Kyoto. The food was crisp, flavourful and prepared with care. The ingredients are high quality and fresh. The prices are fair and the servings ample. I recommend the green dragon roll, it is simply Dynamite! The Ninja platter is wonderful as well.
Missing a taste of Japan, the pricing in yen made me curious to try. The sushi was excellent and the atmosphere was welcoming.
Great Sushi and Rolls
One of my fav. Places for Sushi, friendly, nice clean. Sushi tatses amazing..especially red dragon roll
Great sushi!
REAL DEAL from a japanese chef owner..... Izakaya style shop ....cozy....its fresh, the veg in the rolls have a crunch to it....rolls arent loaded up with rice like chinese/ korean sushi shops.......STAFF is super friendly and attentive....price is reasonable too............ i will visit again 100
A gem in my neighborhood. Very authentic and efficient. Warm welcome, not too loud ambiance, very clean. Always have a good dinner there.
The best of the neighbourhood.
Always dependable... best local sushi evaaa!!!
Best in the city!
Authentic. Tasty. Friendly. Great place.
Good Sushi Salmon Don. Have it with 2 tablespoon of wasabi and WOW BANG! The trick is you have to soak ALL of the salmon sashimi in the wasabi until it looks very green (like money). And then you eat it really fast. Really good food!
The sushi was amazing here, service was great too and I like the atmosphere! Thank you!
Sashimi was very sweet with barely any fishy taste; amazing textures, especially the octopus which can usually be rubbery. Very satisfied with Tokyo Sashimi platter, Hotake sashimi, and oyako don (chicken and egg rice; sauce was so tasty). Great 80 sclassics music, cozy, low light, fun atmosphere during dinner, and friendly service. Witnessed wait staff greet at least 4 regulars during the course of our meal, they are definitely well liked.
Very good sushi. Worth the price.
Great food and great people working there. Wish I lived closer and could eat there more often.
Awesome place! Staff are so nice. Food is great. Very popular with my coworkers.
Awesome little nook with atmosphere and great food.
Had a lovely lunch yesterday at this charming sushi bar on Yonge Street, north of Lawrence. The server was really attentive and helpful, and the food was delicious. We will be back!
By far the best sushi Ive had in the GTA. Put yourself in chef Jimis hands and let him choose your dishes. The fish is excellent and the chefs skills outstanding. This isnt a cheap all you can eat place but the prices are very reasonable for the quality. Service is excellent.
Outstanding. Fresh fish. Friendly and informative staff
Decent place. Sushi doesnt always have to be All You Can eat.
The food could be much better. The menu/options could be much more inspiring. The onigiri with salmon teriyaki could be much more flavourful. The yakitori chicken could be fresher. The rock n roll maki with grilled yellow tail could be less dry. Servers were really friendly.
Im confused... Why is The Sushi Bar(f) receiving so many good reviews? Ive been here maybe 10 times (my kids like it and its walking distance) and it is consistently awful. The food ranges anywhere from rescued-from-the-garbage to barely edible, with raw fish that is so clearly past its due date. And the dishes (salads, appetizers, etc) are really poorly executed. Taka wasa smelled too bad to eat. Green salad is literally just lettuce and dressing! Hot things are rubbery and soaked in sugar and tempura. I love Japanese food, and have explored most of Torontos sushi and sashimi. The Sushi Bar(f) is in the bottom tier. Now I get it. Some folks have misplaced their Yonge Sushi reviews here. Sushi Barf doesnt have AYCE but some reviews here indicate AYCE. Trust the bad ones - they are right!
Excellent service! Great food.
Great food, great service, reasonable prices
Loved this spot! Amazing sushi, great service and awesome vibes!!
Tasty but salty...across the board
By far the best sushi in the GTA
Excellent service. Food was delicious!
Always outstanding!
Staff are friendly, and the food is great!
Very good sushi and customer service
Great service. Food was yummy. Will be back again.
Sushi you will travel out of your way for. Fantastic!
My daughter really likes the beef terriyaki here and the stuffs here are so nice.
Great food! Great service! Gluten free soy sauce is available.
Charming place with great friendly service and amazing black cod
Fabulous. Our new go to spot on date night.
Great vibe, real food, and exceptional service. Just finished a dinner and drinks here and despite a lot of local competition well be back! !!
Absolutely the best sushi and udon
Amazing food and great prices. This place is a gem.
I love this place....I come every Friday for lunch...best staff they are so welcoming...great atmosphere
Quality ingredients used. A bit pricier than the average Japanese restaurant.
Let just keep it simple. Our family eat here at least once a week. Our son said this is the best sushi ever everytime eating his favourite handrolls here. Our fav dishes are sashimi yuke, salmon sushi pizza, chirachi, banzai roll, tuna tataki, different handrolls, hotate sushi and black sesami ice cream. Service is also outstanding and very friendly.
Its a mediocre place...based on food and price (higher than most places based on quality/quantity) but the service is pretty amazing. Their organic salmon was most delicious and I would recommend it. Their tartare was also worth it.
Good service , great music . Chill out with my big family here...
A good local sushi restaurant for sit-down meals. Great decor and atmosphere of a cozy Japanese restaurant. Very happy with the service too.
This place is exactly what we were looking for - very cozy, great service, great food and very cool decor. The sushi rolls were delicious!
Beautiful fresh fish, perfect sushi, authentic Japanese food, friendly staff, cozy environment, great sakes.
Really cool place , good vibes good service and food is about 4.5 from what i know about sushi i will be back:)
