Best take out sushi place in Downtown. Sashimi was so good, reminded me of Japan (and im not usually a sashimi person) and the sushi is so good. They season thier sushi rice so well, you can really taste the difference and I find I get full with much less compared to other Sushi places. Dont hesitate... youve found your new fav sushi spot!

I always ordered thru uber eat and every single time I asked for a pair of chopsticks because I have no utensils to use at work. 4 times out of 5, I got no chopsticks. Just ordered again today, specifically asked for a pair of chopsticks under note section, food still arrived without them. I dont understand how this restaurant expected people eating sushi with their bare hands. Truly disappointed after ordering from them numerous times over the years.

The girl in the front is very rude. Evening shift 6pm,Dec 12,2024. I ask for my order for how minutes should be ready and she never answers. If I pay for my order I have a right to know the waiting time.

Its good because you can eat it at a low price. The Signature Roll is a fried roll and contains cooked salmon, and the Volcano is also a fried roll with cooked salmon, so it was a bit greasy, so it was disappointing. The basic salmon maki was delicious without any unnecessary ingredients.

I ve been ordering the deluxe chirashi don from DoorDash for two years, and most of the time, the food has been fresh with decent portion. However, I ve recently noticed that the portions have become significantly smaller, even though the price hasn t changed.

The portion of the food is getting smaller and the price is still the same. The quality is also not as good as before. I think I won t buy it again until they get improved.

Can always count on J San to delivery high quality sushi and sashimi.

The sashimi was sooooo fresh. Havent had any better than here. The makis were okay, good filling but felt a little dry. Will definitely come back and maybe even get A BIGGER platter! The 40 PCs for two people was enough but it was so good we wanted more!

they ran out of tuna and said they ll replace it with tilapia. i told them i wanted a different fish (tilapia is super cheap) and opted for red snapper. the lady at the counter told me tilapia is basically the same thing as snapper, just different colors. when i challenged her on this she doubled down instead. walked the hell out of there

Take out only restaurant. Place order online at 11:40 and received estimated pickup time to be 12:05. Arrived at 12:08 to be told that it will take another 10 minutes but actually waited till 12:40 to finally receive the food. The quality of the fish is pretty good but the wait time is crazy, took up the entire lunch and almost missed a meeting. Have to plan your time wisely if you wish to receive your lunch on time.

I was the only single customer in the restaurant, and despite there being no other customers, I had to wait for 30 minutes for my food and they dont offer dine-in service.

UPDATE: I ve been ordering this place all the time and recently the food has not been fresh at all. I had to refund my order because it was inedible. I don t know what is going on the background but this used to be a top tier place with fresh melting in your mouth type of sushi. Now, it is simply horrible and I won t be reordering again. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I keep ordering this on ubereats. It s very reasonably priced and the sushi melts in your mouth. Highly recommend. Comparable to high end sushi restaurants.

I did takeout and Im super happy with the food! Packaging was excellent, portions are large and priced fairly. Most importantly the sushi was delicious, one of my favorites in the city. I would highly recommend it.

The deluxe chirashi don is my go-to, but haven t had anything bad. Prices are reasonable for quality.

The food is good. However the portions that you pay have SIGNIFICANTLY GONE DOWN. The sushi is incredibly small and no actual salmon or Shrimp in it. I ordered a Salmon Avocado Roll & Shrimp Tempura Roll. They did not even have Avocado in 2 of my Salmon Avocado roll and barely in rice on the rolls, also No Shrimp in one of my orders. So disappointing in this place it has become over the past 2 years. You cannot raise the price of food and give half portions that your paying. What kind of Sushi place is this? TERRIBLE, ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE The price of the food has gone up tremendously and portions gone down significantly. Overall the taste is good . But if your going to go here and you have another option. Pick the other option at least you will be satisfied with what you pay for.

Absolutely terrible service my bag broke and i asked for an extra bag and the lady at the front desk gave me so much attitude and food might be alright but the customer service is absolutely horrific!

The food was good, and I d definitely order from here again. While it may not be the absolute best Ive ever had, it s great for what it is, and I enjoyed my meal overall.

Limited option compared with other branch This is my second time visiting J San. Compared with the one nearby town, here is so limited. Sold out quite a few popular items. And I do not see that it refill any other day online. No blue fin tuna, no sea urchin,no Donburi, no sweet shrimp, no dine in as well. Wish that both branches could sell the same product

Would not recommend this place outside of ordering delivery or calling ahead. Its a 25-30 minute eait with only two seats availible for anyone to wait. There is also no space to eat as its take out only.

Update: every time I order the exact same thing. I can confidently say the last two times, the tuna is not as fresh as they used to be, other fishes are fine. Easily tell from the colour, texture and taste. I used to order sushi from both J San and Kibo. Ordered Kibo a few days ago and the fish were not fresh, which did not satisfy my sushi cravings. Today ordered from J San, the presentation, the freshness, quality and thickness of fish, the quality of soy sauce and sushi rice are all amazing, while comes with a reasonable price. keep it up, J san!

We had a party. We ordered alot of food and when we got the food out to serve there was a bone in the Philadelphia roll, called and spoke to the restaurant they told me to take a picture and email. Never heard anything back.

A relative and friend introduced me to a takeaway today and I just had the opportunity to try it out. Originally, this sushi was for internal use, but after the epidemic in the past few years, it was no longer available for internal use. It has been changed to takeout and it has continued to this day. I brought a portion. There are 15 pieces of sashimi and two kinds of sushi rolls. The sashimi is not cut very thin, the size is moderate, and the freshness is good. The ingredients in the sushi rolls are also rich in ingredients. The portion is enough for two people at the price. For Toronto, the price of such more refined ingredients is acceptable. I will continue to try other items in the store if I have the opportunity in the future

My GF got food poisoning from the scallops at the Jarvis Location last week. This is the first time we tried this place. Lots of reviews and uber delivery bikes were lined up outside. We figured it must be good. Good friendly service, but they seemed rushed and understaffed for how busy they are. Disappointed to say the least.

The fish quality went way down. It used to be really good but last two times I ordered the fish was not fresh and tasted very fishy . Really disappointed I m going to have to look for a new place.

Great food for the price! Better than Kibo. As long as they don t increase the price, I ll continue to order from here. 2 things that keep it from 5 stars. 1) They give you a laughable tiny amount of soy sauce and wasabi. They give you the standard takeout container for soy sauce, except they always have it 1/3 full. For 20 pieces of sushi.. it s never enough. I always get through half of my sushi and there s no soy sauce left. What s worse, is that when you ask them for more soy sauce, or even to just give you a container that isn t basically almost empty.. they want to charge you. I m sorry, but soy sauce is required for the sushi, so I m not sure why they re so cheap with it. It s like ketchup for fries. I m not even asking for extra.. I m just asking for enough to give each of my 20 pieces a dip. It s just such bad practice and I feel it s so unnecessary. If you re going to only give one small thing of soy sauce per order, at least fill that one tiny container up. They also give you a tiny amount of wasabi. 2) I wish they didn t charge you an extra $0.50 for any substitution. If my combo comes with California roll, but I d prefer a different roll (that is the exact same price), why am I being charged? I understand if the roll I want is higher priced than they should charge me.. but if it s the same price, I don t get why I have to pay more. Not the biggest deal in the world, but it would be nice if it made more sense. Besides these two things, it s really a great option for takeout. It tastes great and it isn t overpriced.

I had some really disappointing sushi recently which left me craving the good stuff. I m so glad I decided to try J San for the first time today because it was really excellent! Everything was so fresh and the quality of the fish exceeded my expectations especially for the price point. Presentation was lovely too. My only complaint was that they didn t include chopsticks in my order which made my chirashi don hard to eat but I managed. Mistakes happen. Overall I d highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for great sushi at a modest price.

Everytime I order sushi downtown, no other place can compete with J San. The quality of fish to the price is literally unbeatable super fresh and high quality as always.

Used to be my go-to for decent sushi in downtown but now they re cheaping out and giving super thin slices for sashimi, for $30 that s robbery. The location uptown is more consistent, the downtown branch just cheats cause they know they can. Disappointed.

Firstly, the salmon, depicted as beautifully aburi-seared in the picture, arrived fully cooked, lacking the exquisite flavor and texture promised. Additionally, the tempura-breaded items were instead deep-fried, deviating drastically from the visual representation. To add insult to injury, the tobiko provided bore no resemblance to the type displayed in the advertisement. Such blatant inconsistencies between presentation and reality not only shattered my expectations but also eroded my trust in the establishments integrity. As a result, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this establishment to fellow diners. Buyer beware what you see is definitely not what you get.

Absolutely fantastic. A gourmet experience delivered at your doorstep. I definitely recommend the 136. deluxe sashimi combo 18pcs for fresh, melt in your mouth and flavourful sashimi. The 139. torch sushi & roll combo 13pcs was a delight, you can taste the smokiness of the torch, not overpowering, just right. Great sushi and sashimi, everything tasted premium, well balanced and so beautifully presented. I will be back and J San Sushi Bar is now one of my favorite restaurant in Toronto. Delicious.

I ordered in or pick up at this location on their website over the last long weekend. The pick up process was seamless, the only situation that stressed me out a little was the street parking as I wasnt sure what to expect along Jarvis at 6pm on a Saturday. Luckily, I was able to find a parking spot in front of the restaurant so I made a quick run for my food. I bought the salmon combo and the deluxe roll combo for dinner and was the perfect portion for 2. I have always bought take out from the Woodbine location uptown, the downtown location did not disappoint and their quality is very consistent. Now that I know what to expect of their parking situation, Id definitely order on their website for pick up again in the future.

Trying out this place for the first time and I loved it! Got the torched combo with an extra salmon avocado roll. Super flavourful and the fish are super fresh. Also very generous with the ingredients, you can tell each roll is filled to the brim!

My favourite sushi spot in the city. I have been ordering from them almost every week since they first opened during COVID and I gotta say J San never disappoints. It is definitely the best bang for your buck spot you can find with excellent quality for an affordable price. The fish is always super fresh and the rice to fish ratio is very well balanced. My go-tos are their chirashi bowls, rolls and torched sushi. Even though it is mostly a takeout spot, their customer service is outstanding too. I recently had a great experience placing a large catering order for a company event. The staff was very professional and responsive. They helped to tailor my order and went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. The food was amazing and everyone loved it. Highly recommended!

I got the deluxe chirachi from Uber. Use to order at least once a week... The size of the take out box they use has decreased by at least 30% which came as quite a shock. Quality is still good but portion for everything is now appetizer sized!

The first time I had J San was at a potluck and it was all gone within seconds! I had to go back for more. They ve got great high quality sushi at a good price point. I always reco my friends to go to J San for sushi. They ve got a good variety of rolls, nothing too crazy or complex but I love it. Their J San roll was really crunchy and deep fried but it was delicious! Their karaage is yummy too.

Great sushi restaurant for platters of well made rolls. There was a lot of avocado, maybe a bit too much compared to the fish, but everything was delicious all the same. I appreciate that you can ask for no tempura bits in the rolls if you choose.

A fantastic spot for take-out (dine in atmosphere is more of a canteen environment so if thats what youre looking for, then this is it...especially if you want a quick meal). I love how you can build your own donburi/sashimi bowls exactly to your liking. The rice is flavourful with great texture and the sashimi quality is excellent, fresh and nice, thick cuts. They use the lovely, white ginger with the spicy, bite which I love (no thank you to the pink stuff for me). The aburi sushi was also delicious with a nice smoky flavour from the char. The rainbow roll was the only item that I wouldnt order again because the rice was a bit soggy and not as flavourful as the rice in the other dishes. I love how you can order online, in advance and their website is incredibly easy to use! Overall, a fantastic place to come for great quality sushi.

Went to dine while it was snowing outside, only to be denied to dine in as they said they are take out only. This was not mentioned online, so be careful as you might end up not eating, walking in snow, and having to search for alternative at a short time frame.

My daughter ordered a platter today. It looked okay but tasted very rancid. We were surprised as she ordered before and it tasted great. She messaged doordash and was told she needs a doctors prescription before she could get a refund. I thought,ok, I will call the restaurant, at least I could let them know the food was not fresh. The person who answered told me the sushi was checked before it was sent. That she smelled and looked at it before sending it. She obviously did not taste any from the batch. I asked to send someone to collect it so she could see for herself as it is not edible. I wanted to warn them in case someone else was sent the same batch and become sick. The sushi was definately not made fresh today and our stomach is sick from what we tasted so someone will definately get sick from it. She showed no concern whatsoever and my daughter loses her money. Over $70. I advised the lady to please check if there was anymore from the batch we were sent, to please just taste it to prevent anyone getting sick from it. Again no concern. Will never order from them again.

Best sushi in the neighbourhood. The fish is always fresh, rice has a perfect texture where it s not dry and well put together. Tempura is not greasy, it s just the right texture. Compared to all the other sushi restaurants I ve tried around the area, this one is my favourite because it always taste so fresh. The prices are competitive, it s really worth the quality.

This is definitely not a top-notch sushi experience. However probably live up to its price tag. Not all materials are fresh, there re even some sourness in the tuna dishes. The torched sushi also have too much butane flavor. The most fresh ingredient of my order is the salmon, which seems to be their most popular item, however not a good fish type to consume raw IMO.

Got a J San Roll (8piece). It was okay but it didnt look like the picture online. Got highly confused if we received the wrong order. Online it shows bright orange on the rice roll part even if torched a bit on top. But when opened up, it was black? Not entirely sure if this was the right order. Picture online didnt match current sushi roll.

We ordered a couple of different rolls and some aburi sushi. The fish was fresh & tasty, but all the rolls had a lot of tempura stuffed in it, which added an odd texture and didn t add much to the flavour. The aburi sushi looked super promising but it too was interesting. They used a ton of mayonnaise and that was the only torched part, as opposed to the fish. The sauces they used on the rest of the pieces were a little on the sweeter side and weren t my favourite either. Overall, I was a bit disappointed considering this place had excellent ratings. Might have been an off day for them.

J San Sushi Bar is the best for take out sushi party trays Ive found so far. The quality of sushi you get for the price is fantastic! We get the party tray D, which can feed up to 4 people. This tray comes with chutoro nigiri and sashimi. The slices of sashimi and rolls are large. The rice used is cooked well and lightly seasoned. The packaging for the tray is elevated compared to other places. The base is painted to look like real wood. Weve also ordered the chicken teriyaki and seaweed salad. You get a good portion for the price paid on both of these items. The taste is as youd expect. The staff are efficient with your order and the take out process. We were very excited to have a sushi night in and watch a movie. UNFORTUNATELY this restaurant accepted our order but NEVER made the food and then CLOSED the restaurant. 5 total Uber drivers went to this restaurant to pick our order and could not because THEY CLOSED. They never cancelled my incomplete order though so we sat here through nearly two hours of delays wondering what was going on. Thanks for ruining our night. My family is now going to bed with no dinner.

I went to this sushi shop because of the good reviews. Unfortunately the order took almost twice as long as stated. The classic sushi was ok, but the salmon was a bit too fatty for me... unfortunately I wont continue eating the Signature Roll J San. It tastes partly burnt and unfortunately doesnt have much to do with sushi anymore. Too bad! Even though the store is really reasonably priced, it was still too expensive for the quality.

Ordered chirashi bowl and sashimi from Uber eats. Very limited variety and raw fish was going bad. Fish slices were sour tasting and other pieces were very rubbery. Had to throw out the order. Never again. Ordered on December 10, 2023
