Salad King has been proudly serving Ryerson and the downtown Toronto neighbourhood for the past 30 years. Our Thai food is delicious and affordable, made with quality, homemade ingredients. Our service is fast and friendly. Our restaurant is vibrant and full of energy. Our aim is to make sure all our customers leave Salad King with bellies full and big smiles on their faces.
IntSalad King, located on the second floor on the west side of Yonge Street, just north of Dundas, is a spacious and casual Thai restaurant that impresses with its wide variety of dishes and generous portions. The menu caters to diverse preferences, including vegetarians, with dishes made from fresh ingredients and packed with delicious flavors. During my visit, I enjoyed the vegetarian Glass Noodles, which were both flavorful and satisfyingly portioned. The restaurant's layout is versatile, offering seating options to suit any occasion. Whether you’re dining solo at the window or bar, sharing a meal at a table, or relaxing in a booth with friends, there’s a comfortable spot for everyone. This flexibility makes Salad King a great choice for both small and large groups. In addition to the appealing food and welcoming atmosphere, the restaurant delivers excellent value. The pricing is fair, and the staff are accommodating and friendly, adding to the overall experience. In summary, Salad King is a dependable option for those seeking tasty, well-prepared Thai cuisine in a relaxed and spacious setting. It’s a great pick for a casual meal in downtown Toronto, whether you’re grabbing lunch, dining with friends, or enjoying a quick solo bite.erior
I came on a weekday night and it was pretty busy, but not loud. The food was great value and flavour for the price, and Salad King is my new go-to when I don't know where to eat in the area! The curry was delicious and filling, and I recommend the chicken satay skewers as an appetizer - the peanut sauce really makes the dish pop! The waitress was nice and came to refill our water and check in often. Overall a great place if you're a student or go with a group of friends with good pricing and lots of seating!
We stopped by for lunch as we walked Queen Street and wanted to give it a shot. Trust me when I say the food was so fresh, so tasty and the servers were very kind. I’m going to be back and bring more friends. Highly recommend this place especially for yummy lunch specials!
The Islamic noodles were great, felt a bit close to a red curry and panang curry style of sauce over noodles. Portion was very big. The mango salad is also very good value and recommended for sharing. The fried rice was tasty and the rice they use is exceptional as it is very soft but not mushy. The flavors and umami were on point.
Salad King has been around for such a long and im amazed that the quality of their food had not gone down despite the demand being much higher for them nowadays. Fresh tasty and as spicy (or mild) as you want it, if you want great thai food for pretty affordable prices THIS IS THE PLACE YALL!
I went to Salad King after years and was so happy to find that nothing had changed ! The same friendly wait staff, the same fantastic Phud Thai with tofu. This once I also tried this amazing 'Pineapple Tamarind Soda"! Kudos Salad King for maintaining a high standard 👌🙌
Food, service and atmosphere are fantastic! Mango salad was good. A steal in my opinion for $8 and you get a lot of mango. Would recommend asking the sweet mango sauce on the side so that you can enjoy the mango without any sweetener sauce. Pad Thai with chicken is good. You can’t go wrong with the Pad Thai here :) Slow roasted beef wrapped in a puff pastry with Penang curry was good in hitting that beef and curry cravings. It kind of reminded me of the English Beef Wellington but Asian style. This dish is one of their specials that our server recommended and it was a great choice. Would definitely get this dish the next time around again!
I have been coming here for years and continue to get the same dishes. It always taste consistent and I have made so many memories here. Highly recommend the seafood fried rice and Thai Islamic noodles. Service has always been great here too, love this gem.
Excellent experience! Friend s atmosphere
Really good food, spice levels are nice, portion sizes are generous, but music was a bit loud and boomy so 4/5.
Fast, clean, good value food was good all around
Love the food , spicy level goes from 1-12. I tired 3 and it was good spicy. Food
Food and service was terrific. My dish was so spicy but awesome and our server was the nicest guy. Overall we had a great time.
Dont let the lame name discourage you, it is a great restaurant with great food. The only complaint I have is probably that their seats are not that comfortable.
Amazing food and great customer service. One of my favourite places!
Good food.
Great food, great staff, great experience
Owner was very nice and the food was great. If you re feeling risky go for the level 20 spice.
I used to love Salad King. I hadn t been in a few years and was really surprised to see that the quality of their food has decreased quite a bit (while the prices have gone up). The beef in their Khao Soi felt very low quality - so chewy. The dish itself tasted strange. I m not sure if I just caught them on an off night. I went on a weekday around 6pm and the place was pretty empty, yet we felt like our waiter was trying to rush us out. Overall not a good experience and will not be returning. You can get amazing Thai food elsewhere in Toronto (for the same price)
the best. always trust the secret menu. Vegetarian options: So many delicious vegetarian options! Food : 5/5 |
Best spot for high spice thai food. My go to spot when Im in the area.
Fresh, fast and great flavours!
Manager doesnt understand city by laws. He wouldnt let a service animal inside the restaurant when myself and 5 of my friends wanted to dine in. Poor guy. He didnt want to listen to reason when we tried to explain and show the dogs certifications. Regardless, sorry that they were happy to lose 5 customers when the restaurant wasnt busy and the dog was quiet and calm.
I have been here many times with no problems but on a recent visit my husband found fur growing on his rice and they told us that it was a piece of cloth that got stuck and cooked into it. They brought us new rice and we paid full price for the meal. Whether it s mold or cloth, gross.
Really nice place with great Thai food. The mango sticky rice was amazing!
The food was amazing and for a good price!
Very bad behaviour while accepting order
Bad customer dealing
bad behaviour
They don t know to deal with customers. I want to their restaurant and they told me use back door for exit. Idk
Finding the place was super confusing, lol! But the food was the star of the show! I ordered their Panang curry with chicken, which came with rice, and then their mango sticky rice. I will absolutely come back to eat here again! Food
Really poor behaviour with the delivery guys.. please don t order here online by Uber, skip and or any other delivery app
Poor behaviour with the delivery guys
Having been coming here for years now. Very consistent taste, great service and atmosphere. Highly recommend the curries and the noodles.
Vegetarian options: lots available Food
A Toronto staple for average mediocre Thai food, where you ll find edible curries and overly sweetened cocktails. You won t die here but you ll question why you came.
Food was good but i saw them discriminating the dasher who deliver food. They asked him to use back door and come to the same place around. Wasting his time and making him run all around and also the customer delivery time. There colleagues were laughing seeing him struggling. They were unsatisfied with him coming from the front door and refused . Never going to such place seeing the discrimination clearly myself.
My wife and I have been here so many times and will keep coming there. Its been awhile since weve been there and nice to see some additions to the menu. Well be back.
Quick, friendly service. Delicious food, with plenty of Vegan options.
By far best Pad Thai I ve had. We come here often, very casual, food comes out quick. My only complaint - the young man who has been at the host desk is unfriendly, has no idea how to greet people, but even worse than that is the HORRENDOUS body odour. My first encounter walking in today is smelling this stinky mess. And it s lingering over my food. Bad business decision.
Great ambiance, amazing food and terrific service! Wheelchair accessibility: There is an elevator to take you upstairs... Food : 5/5 |
Amazing food and drinks
Best Pad Thai ever Food portions were large and prices very reasonable for the area. Service was quick and efficient. Will come back when returning to Toronto. Highly recommended
Waste service
Delicious green curry and Phud thai !
You have to find the entrance to the restaurant then find the right floor because it is located on the 2nd floor of a building. The prices are more than fair and a waitress comes regularly to put water in our glasses. The curry soup is delicious! Too bad the room is very noisy.
This place epitomizes western Thai food. There are essentially no authentic thai dishes on the menu. Dont expect som tam, pad kra prow, steamed whole fish or stir fried morning glory. Expect curry that is more coconut milk then anything else, protein options that do not include pork, and western vegetables.
The food is great and the service is quick, It just turns noisy for that rush hour which is typical for Downtown but also shows that people love this place! It never disappoints!
Best part of the food was the plain rice
Busy (so come early for lunch), loud, but excellent food for a decent price. Name might confuse you, it is a Thai place. And might be hard to find, as restaurant is on 2nd floor.
I have been going to Salad king since they were located across from Ryerson. Back then the food was fantastic! I have recommended this restaurants to hundreds of people. And have always brought my friends here. Today I decided to take my niece to Salad king for her birthday and we ordered her favorite, Golden curry chicken and two portions of spring rolls. Big mistake! the food was absolutely horrible! The waitress kept apologizing, saying the rolls were brought out to early. However regardless of how much we tried soaking up the oil from the spring rolls it didnt help. Our group of five all got sick after the meal. Salad king missed the mark on this one. We wont be back. Today you lost a customer who supported your establishment form the beginning.
Rude behaviour with delivery drivers
I love salad king but I have to say that the water tastes like chlorine more and more every time I go.
Bad staff
very bad staff nd food
very bad staff nd very bad food
Thanks a lot Denial. I was injured and asked him for first aid. He helped me instantly. I will remember you brother. Take care!
You cant go wrong with thai food from salad King, love this place.
amazing Thai food, pleasantly satisfied with the heat of the dishes
Cant go wrong with this place
Best golden curry ever! This place never disappoints. Everything is delicious cheap and fresh.
Omg food is top tier!!!!!! So so yummy. Literally anything you get is delicious!! I got the chicken ball fried rice and my husband got the golden curry. Dont skip on the spring rolls!!!
If you are thinking of going to salad king, do it with no hesitation. Everything about this place is perfect. Very high quality HALAL food (My favorite meal as well as drink of 2024) at a very affordable price, along with a premium atmosphere and very kind employees. The owner, Mr. Paul, also often personally approaches customers with kindness and care, and he even gave my kids free tokens for the claw machine game down the stairs, displaying acts of kindness and just how good this restauraunt really is. Once again, if you are considering eating at salad king, do so with no heaitation Vegetarian options: Very good vegetarian options with almost every dish Kid-friendliness: Very very kid friendly and kids are free to eat as they with and are always treated very nicely by employees and customers alike Wheelchair accessibility: Since this restauraunt is on a second floor, you might think it has no wheelchair accessibility, but there is an elevator that can be used to go up.
Very rude behavior by staff with delivery driver
A Toronto classic! Got the Islamic noodles level 6 spice. It was very good!
I ve known this place for 12 years. The food is delicious, the service is great and the atmosphere I always enjoy. I will keep coming back for more and more. Please don t change how you do things. I will keep telling all my friends to also come abs eat here.
It s a decent place with good food. Great service and cool ambience.
Thai basil noodles were good, and big portions as well. But I chose a 6 chilis and it was not spicy at all. If you casually like spicy food Id choose a higher chili level for the Thai basil noodles. The Thai lime iced tea is very refreshing.
Delicious everytime. Go for the hidden menu dish, Islamic noodles. Awesome
Terrible service here tonight. Sat down at 6:00 PM, and was ignored throughout our stay. Flagged a server down 20 minutes into waiting to be served and she told us someone would be coming to take our order. Nobody showed up. Wasted 30 minutes at our table waiting for some service and did not receive any, so we left.
I have been going to this location on Yonge Street for years. The atmosphere is noisy but the food is delicious. My most favorite dishes are the Islamic noodles with chicken & shrimp, and the Beef Panang, which reminded me of a beef wellington without the pork. Very tasty and excellent dishes. So sad that I forgot to take pics.
Food and service were both good. The phud thai (pad thai?) was one of the best Ive had. I did spice level 7 (out of 20) and it had a good kick that wasnt overbearing. Would recommend
Was in the city for the Pride Parade and decided to stop by Salad King for lunch along with two other people. I had eaten here once before with some friends and had a pleasant experience and I definitely do not regret coming back again today! We had stopped by a few minutes after opening and were seated immediately and served drinks. I really want to commend the service we got before anything else. Our server (not sure about the name but she was the kind Asian lady with a short black haircut!) was extremely attentive and friendly. While I enjoy spice, I may have ordered 1 spice level too high so I ended up going through my glass of water quickly but there was never a single time that I had drunk my glass empty as our server came by frequently to refill our glasses. Especially with the heat outside and our exhaustion from walking through the city, this was very appreciated! There was also another man (who I assume may have been the manager?) who came by a couple times to have some friendly conversation which was quite nice as well! The two people I visited with were fairly new not just to Ontario, but Canada in general, so I feel like this experience left a positive impression of the people here. Now when it comes to the food, I did mention that I ordered my dish (The Bankok Stirfry Noodles pictured) a tad bit spicy but that did NOT stop me from finishing the plate. The flavours were excellent from whatever sauce they used to the subtle char of the ingredients from the wok- it was perfect. And the portions were very fair for their price- I ve had worse Thai food for similar prices but this? It s both authentic and well-worth the price. My uncles who came with me also thoroughly enjoyed their dishes (pictured as well) and were happy about the large portions as they were able to take some home for later! All-in-all Salad King is a favourite stop of mine whenever I m in the city and I will always recommend it to people both new and old to the area!! Eating here was one of the highlights of the day for me!
Nothing against the food here! I have had food twice before and its been nice. However, the experience this time precisely on the 30th of June (Pride Day) left a bitter taste in our mouth. We couldn t sit there so cant comment on the food as the person (old male) who received us was extremely rude and arrogant. Initially when we arrived we were asked to wait by a lady who gave us a 15 minute wait time. Soon after I went back to check how long will it take as we had 2 kids (1 infant) with us, just to be make sure they have tables in 15 mins else we could go some place else as we couldn t keep the kids waiting. This time this old guy responded even before letting me complete my sentence that I cant give you a time and looked away to continue chatting with his colleague. I said your colleague just told me 15 mins and he looked at her and then checked the time and responded its not been 15 mins yet and all in a tone that was so disrespectful, demeaning and borderline racist. That ticked me off and I asked why are you being rude to me and he had no answer but this time he started talking to all other guests who were in line and roped them into the conversation saying look at her am I being rude to her? now should i listen to her or attend to you guys. That was it, it got so uncomfortable that we decided to leave. I cant forget this and neither my friends. I hope the owner reads this and takes an action against the employee (hoping this was not the owner) so he doesn t repeat this entitled behaviour with others. But for sure they lost a customer forever.
Food 10/10 Service 8/10 Atmosphere 10/10 Great yummy food with good portions! The wontons were good, would definitely come back for more options
Cant share photos from here because we eat everything too fast. Secret menu still is the best thing ever.
Green curry was delicious! Staff are friendly but it takes time to get our orders. Food
Salad King is a true gem in the city, deserving every bit of its stellar reputation! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere and friendly staff eager to ensure a delightful dining experience. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the hot Thai noodles. Bursting with flavor and perfectly spiced, they provided a tantalizing culinary adventure that I won t soon forget. The restaurants attention to offering vegetarian options is commendable, making it a perfect spot for those seeking delicious meat-free dishes without compromising on taste. To complement the meal, I indulged in the mango ginger ale, and it was simply amazing. The refreshing drink perfectly balanced the sweetness of mango with a hint of ginger, making it an ideal choice to pair with the savory dishes. Overall, Salad King exceeded my expectations in every way. The exceptional food, excellent vegetarian options, and delightful beverages make it a must-visit. I can t wait to return and explore more of their diverse menu. Highly recommended! Vegetarian options: Good options
Fantastic. Cant wait to return!
Gave it a try multiple times and dont understand the hype yet. Chicken tasted gamey and bland. Wasn t crazy about the mushroom soup. If I recommend anything at all, try the Islamic noodles; it s really good.
Randomly stumbled on this restaurant, ordered food on the recommendation of staff. And i must say food was really good loved every bit of it!!!! Staff is also very nice and has good attitude. Would love to go back and try other things Keep up the good work!
Its ALWAYS fun at The Salad King. [I have been a fan since the late 90s.] My great friend and I had dinner before attending a live musical performance. I, almost always, have Orange Beef, 5 chilies, but chose to order chicken curry with 5 chilies. It did not disappoint. Staff were incredible. Waiter magnificent. Very comfortable experience.
I ve been coming here for years. Visiting Toronto again and for the first time I feel they are really pivoting into slipping on quality. Service not so great, food got pretty greasy and just missing stuff, and it feels like cost cutting is in full swing. Ordering the same dish for years, and noticeable decrease in the meat they add in. It s still a legend, but I do hope it s a once off bad night, and not a sign of the end of a legend
Incredible Thai food that is perfect for large groups with the discount that comes with it.
Decent Thai place with excellent service. I got the crispy beef panag curry and soup coconut milk and chicken. Both were really good, especially the curry gravy The Thai milk tea was not the best so you can consider skipping it.
Food is not bad but don t go here if you want authentic Thai food.
I felt the tastes of dishes were not Thai food but prices were high Food
As a customer from Asia, mango salad is a meal you absolutely must experience. The full American mangoes and the sweet and sour mango sauce with lime flavor give your tongue a stimulating experience. And other meals can be selected from 20 spiciness levels. I believe that choosing a spiciness level of 10 or above will definitely satisfy customers who love spicy food. This is a local restaurant worthy of 6 stars.
My family visited Toronto for the day and we ate dinner here. To summarize, the service is amazing, the food is good, but amazing with their chilli, bathrooms are okay, and the whole restaurant is mobility aid accessible. And they have deals throughout the week to save money. Has STD&UE When we arrived, there was no parking, but its in the downtown so you can just take TTC there. There is no step and there are buttons to open the doors automatically. The restaurant is on the second floor but there is an elevator, so our friends with mobility devices dont need to worry. Once we got in, we were greeted under a minute and we could get a nice booth close to the middle of the restaurant. They didnt have four menus at our booth but by the time we sat down, they had already given us 2 more for everyone. We all got water, and it was brought to us before I could finish reading the first part of the menu. Our waitress was extremely kind and enthusiastic and would be refilling our water constantly. I think the longest I went without my glass completely filled was around 45 seconds. One note about the waitresses, they are multi lingual. Across their staff, they can speak English, Mandarin and Indian. So you dont have to worry about communication. One thing I noticed is at the table, they do not have salt or pepper, but they did have chilli oil and a house made chilli sauce. My brother and father tried the chilli sauce, and oil, the oil was extremely spicy. However the magic is in the sauce. My brother and father praise the sauce HIGHLY, they liked it so much they wanted to buy a bottle even though they do not sell it. However after talking with the waitress, she offered to just give us some for free and put it in a plastic container for us at the end of our stay. When ordering they have specials, on Monday the bigger your group, the more of a discount you get. There are other specials on other days, I cannot remember the details but I will attach photos. Students with a valid ID get 20% off their orders Monday to Friday from 2-5pm So once I finished reading the menu I decided to get the fried rice with chicken balls and the sauce on the side (Im quite a picky eater). And it took 18 minutes to get to us. The rice was delicious, fluffy and tasty, the veggies (carrot and peas) were alright, but the egg blended into the mix WONDERFULLY, they were fluffy and light. The texture of the mixture was consistent and it all blended well together. Though a little bland on its own, then again I didnt use the sauce on the rice. The chicken balls were a little soggy, though I had to wait a few minutes before eating, that was likely the cause. On their own, they chicken balls were okay, but when combined with their sweet chilli sauce... IT WAS AMAZING!!! The texture and taste complimented each other well and it was delicious. Also side note, you can ask for chopsticks and they will give you wooden ones. We finished eating, no one got desserts or drinks of any kind. However they do have a unique variety of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Their beers have names and ingredients Ive never seen before. They have many house made juices/sodas and also some fountain drinks. As we ate I couldnt help but admire the lovely ambiance, artwork and lighting. Everything was stylized and it was a great experience (Would recommend for dates). They had music that I couldnt put a name on it, but it was quiet as not to disturb you, but loud enough to fill silence. After our meal i had to use the restroom, I used the family bathroom. It has a baby changing station there (and mobility aid accessible). The bathroom was alright but it was dimly lit and kinda hard to see. The sinks faucet was a little awkward and had low water pressure which made it somewhat difficult to wash my hands. There is only a blow dryer to dry your hands, but it gets the job done in a few seconds. Overall it cost us around $76.00 for the four of us to eat there (only ordering main dishes) so definetly come in on Mondays and with your Student ID.
Havent been in years and its better than I remember. I had the Thai basil chicken. Potion size amazing, flavors amazing great service. Its a bit pricy but its worth it. Cant wait to return
Fast Thai food used to be better back in the day when they had old location. Good for a quick stop but some foods lacking like the Tom yum soup was spicy water and mushrooms and mango salad had no seasoning just mango sauce which was weird
One of the best halal Thai food restaurant. I am in love with their thai red curry! Also, thai basil noodles is a must try. They have amazing customer service! Everything was so good Food
It was wonderful, the food is superb and the portions were good, and the price is still reasonable. I loved it!
I love all the aspects of this place, especially food. But it would be great if you could add nutrition facts for all the food on your site. I m on a diet right now, I m counting calories, and I was thinking to go grab something at your place, but I won t, because I won t be able to add this food into my journal
Servers were great, food was awful. Don t know what s going on, I ve had great experiences at the Yonge street location but today the food was incredibly disappointing. SO bland, just unseasoned rubbery veg in a watery curry broth.
It was okay. Not really authentic Thai food but its okay with this price.
Nice
I have not been here for years, as I moved out of the country. But I was back in town for a conference. I only remember the old place, but I understand that it was lost in a fire. I ordered my old standy, Thai Islamic Noodles. I wish I had a bigger stomach to order the Phud Thai too. It was as excellent and superb as always. Missed seeing Ernie and Linda in the back, and the PA system. But the food was fantastic. Hostess and Server were most excellent as well! Glad to see Salad King is still going strong! This place is great! check it out ! thank you!
If you are looking for some inexpensive Thai cuisine in a hurry, this is the place for you. I love the service. The woman who seated our party also served us. She had a very amusing quirk which made the experience more fun. The food is plentiful and the prices are very affordable. The ambiance is also really quite interesting and chic. I recommend this restaurant.
Typical sweet & sour dish with spicy source. Price is reasonable but you can find better Chinese restaurant in downtown area which tastes better. 12% tip minimum is not same as service.Like fast food not typical restaurant atmosphere.
The food was good. I was upset by the service. They seem to have too much on their plates. I saw a total of 2 waitresses and the place was packed, yikes. Tables are also way too close together, I could hear every word of the conversation next to me and it was very awkward.
Atmosphere good, Food was okay
I frequented Salad King a lot during nursing school and often rewarded myself with one of their dishes after an exam. I was happy to dine here again recently and enjoy their wonderful food. They have a lot of dishes to choose from! My favourite is their Hot Thai Noodle with extra tofu. As others have mentioned, don t go crazy with their spice meter 3 chilies is plenty hot! Vegetarian options: Plenty of vegetarian options
After hearing great things about this restaurant, I finally decided to visit. The location provides a birds eye view of Yonge Street, and its bright and airy. Service is swift and friendly. Really enjoyed my noodles and spring rolls. I appreciated that we could order to control the spiciness.
Ive been eating at Salad King for a long time now, and this restaurant never fails to impress me with their food and service. The food is always fresh and tasty, and the wait time is good. I love how helpful the employees are, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. Two of my all-time favorite dishes at Salad King is their Pad Thai and the Fried Rice. Overall, Salad King continues to be one of my go-to spots in the city. If you havent tried it yet, I highly recommend giving it a go. You wont be disappointed! Wheelchair accessibility: The restaurant is on the second floor, but they have an elevator to get there!
Quality food. Great portions. Reasonable price. Friendly manager and staff.
Very nice
Excellent service, huge portions, I had ordered Thai Islamic noodles - off the menu, was delicious
Whatever you do, don t order the basil beef. This is honestly one of the worst dishes I have ever had in my life, and it is a disappointment to Thai people. The beef is extremely low quality, it is spongey and has zero flavor. The sauce is also watery and has very little flavor. The reviews on this restaurant are for sure fake
Always a great choice for a good Thai meal in the downtown core. The food is always fresh and delicious. Be careful of the spicy rating, for most people 2 or 3 chillis is a reasonable spice level , go higher at your own responsibility . The place is wheelchair accessible and being on the second floor there could be a reasonable view, depending where you sit. Recommend the sticky rice mango desert. Overall a positive experience. Two thumbs up .
One of top Thai restaurants with quality food in my book , they have great options I ordered panag curry with mango salad. It was satisfying to eat.
The first time I ate at this place was in 2009. I m glad this place still here and continues to serve tasty food. I love their curry coconut soups, it s already a bit spicy, but if you want to add more they can do it up to 20 chilis. The portions are big and some look small but fulfilling. Salad King made me fall in love with Thai cuisine.
Love coming here for cheap eats, portions are always great. Staff is friendly
The food here is so delicious, I have an outer body experience every time. My favorite is the chicken or shrimp pad thai 3x spicy and the green thai curry with white rice.
My favourite Thai place downtown! The portions are generous and the price point is right- their seasonal specials are what really shine
I ve been coming to Salad King for 20 years. My dishes of choice are the spring rolls, the Hot and Sour Mushroom soup, and the Golden Chicken Curry (4-5 chilies). The food is always fresh and flavourful, and served at just the perfect temperature. The portions are always amazing - definitely good value for the prices charged in my opinion. While I don t live in Toronto anymore, I still make it a point to go to Salad King everytime I m in town! Keep up the amazing work!
Vegetarian options: some dishes are available as vegetarian dishes Wheelchair accessibility: stairs: not accessible for wheelchairs. Food : 5/5 |
While the prices are not as cheap as they used to be, Salad King remains a downtown institution, remaining a great spot to grab some hard hitting, flavourful Thai food in the downtown core. Make sure you dont go too crazy with their spice meter though. 3 chilis or below is enough for most people to really start sweating!
As a Thai food enjoyer I really felt like this place lacked alot of authentic flavour. This time I went, the noodles were really over-cooked and soaking in the soup. The soup couldve had more kick to the flavour, it tasted really diluted (tomato water). Thai expresss tom yum is better. The staff are super nice and the environment is comfortable. I gave this place 3 tries and the best thing I had here was the mango sticky rice. I probably wont come back again :(
Best ever
Good service, really good my choice and they are so fast in the attention.
Got the lime leaf beef with 7 chilis, which was spicy enough for a spice lover like myself. The beef was quite tender and the vegetables were still crisp, and the sauce is thinner than a curry but still pretty flavourful. Service was good, our water was refilled constantly.
Just ordered from Doordash. Rice is instant rice and not even jasmine. Slimy canned mushrooms, sinewy chicken slices in the sauce and green curry flavour tastes like its from a can also. Menu says home made curries. Very disappointing.
It use to be one of Toronto s hot spots but I found my soup watered down with no flavour and my friends curry was Indistinguishable from curry or anything Resembling Curry
Low quality food. Low prices but still not worth it. Go to the food court of Eaton center or BKK to have better Thao food for a lower price. Food : 2/5
Delicious and a very clean facility. The Islamic noodles were a knockout! Salad king rocks. Dont ever change.
Excellent atmosphere with awesome Thai food!
Tried the islamic noods for delivery, huge portion and lots of meat/protein. Dont rly like the sauce bc its sweet (coco milk) but the noods itself is just pad thai which is tasty. I rec going for a higher chili level as the milk cuts a lot of the heat, I tried 7 spice level but 10-12+ would be better imo. Overall good value, a bit salty afterwards tho edit: tried 12 chilis and still not spicy enough, I think 15 would b good
Always enjoy this place. My friend and I both had good meals. I took half mine home and enjoyed it for lunch the next day. It can be a loud place to go, but always busy.
This place seems quite new and very nice. The service was efficient and the food was delicious. We will be back. Thank you for a very nice experience.
Good take on Thai flavours. Really creamy dishes with modular spice levels (they dont add spices until the end). Veggies always taste fresh too. Vegetarian options: Lots of non meat dishes available. Wheelchair accessibility: Elevator access and some tables arent booths.
Edit- this is not same any more, had lot of good memories here with great food. I believe original owner sold it to new management and it s gone downhill, food has lost its taste, quality, appearance, soul. Good bye SK, you will be missed.
The food didnt taste good or authentic. PAI is so much better. The service was acceptable. The environment was good but too crowded or like sitting too close to others.
This restaurant used to be very good. However, now it s absolutely overpriced. Take out gives you less quantity. When you eat here and eat this food and then you see you paid over 40 dollars per person for a restaurant that targets students then you realized that you need to stop going there to make it clear that they are abusing. It s a restaurant for students are you kidding me with the prices ?? Really ? I have been a customer for over 10 years but I m so disappointed so this is my wait to say good bye
Nice Thai spot in city.
Mango Chicken the best in the GTA, have that with a mango ginger ale. Your welcome.
Quickly seated and huge portions and selection. Would definitely come again
tastes bad and overpriced
It s one of the worst Thai food restaurant
Salad King, a Thai restaurant, has been around for many years . Standard dish is around 17.00 cdn The food is high quality- the Tom Yum soups are great and are 6.50 medium bowl. Definitely would recommend this place. Food
We went to Salad King after many years and the food brought back so many memories. The food is amazing and we both got the Thai Islamic Noodles. Service is fast and very efficient, but we always feel rushed there. Their turnover of customers is always so quick. Mind you, it is a student spot so this makes sense. Regardless, this restaurant has the best Thai food and it is well worth it!
I ve been to many Thai restaurants and this was the worst! The quality of the food is very low. Meat smells like old meat and fat and the dishes do not look and taste fresh at all, spring rolls taste like burnt old oil. I don t recommend it at all
All dishes had great flavors and ere well priced. Only issue was that the beef smelled and tasted like freezer burn.
I do not recommend the meat and cashew stir fry, the sauce was kind of bland. However, the noodle dishes were quite tasty Dietary restrictions: They accommodated my friend who is celiac with no issues
Love the food everytime and service is usually pleasant most of the time! Recommend their curries and their noodle dishes!
Wonderful meal, great portions, good comfortable service, lots of choices. Kids and I loved it, and it is also well located just north of the Eatons Centre close to Dundas Square.
Really disappointing experience. The chicken was very dry, like it had been sitting around and reheated and the curry sauce was thin and tasteless. Having eaten hundreds of Thai meals before, this is the first time I had to throw out my meal. Wasted $20. I ve eaten at Salad King many times before and had a good experience. Not sure if I would take another chance given how many excellent Thai places are around.
As usual, the food was delicious. One my favourite places to eat.
Been dining here a couple times; the green curry was delicious! This time I got the Phud Thai, with 7 chilies be careful, if youre not good with spicy food then I suggest get the non-spicy one or maybe 1/2 chilies. I love spicy food and this is a perfect heat for me. The sauce was tasty and savory with hints of sourness and strong cilantro taste. I also got the mango sticky rice, it was good, but I expect the mangoes to be a tad sweeter.
The place is mid, good if you dont care about the coziness of the place
The food is superb. The portion sizes are decent. The service is prompt. Probably they can improve on the ambience. But overall a great place to go to.
Very nice staff and the food is always great.
Overall it s a good place if you are looking for healthy low cost food. They have lots of halal and vegetarian options if that s important to you. The food quality is good (it won t wow you) but it s a nice place.
I used to eat here and the Queen st location. But since they went to a full Halal menu, I cannot eat there anymore. Halal slaughter is NOT a food choice, or way of preparing food. It is animals slaughtered according to outdated Islamic precepts. Only muslims can slaughter Halal, and money goes to the certifying Islamic authority. Im not sure why they need to support one particular religion, but since they do, I cannot support Salad King anymore. I dont want to participate in Islam, (thats my ethical moral choice) so I can no longer eat there. Halal is not about food choices or multiculturalism, it s about supporting religion. The fact that the entire menu is halal, and so caters to only ONE religion excludes those who cannot or do not wish to support Halal for ethical reasons. So, you want to support religious homophobia, misogyny, intolerance, and Islamic supremacy, eat at Salad King. If you don t want to support Islam, don t eat there.
Currys with coconut milk was tasty but the meat dishes were not as expected. They were all stir fried and sweet in taste.
Took 20 minutes to have order taken.
very tasty and inexpensive. very nice staff. Thank you Mr. Rain for the great and fast service
Although I had been here many times before, I hadn t added a review. The menu selection is excellent, portions are generous, and the taste is so good. We had the mango chicken and the golden curry with shrimps. To drink, Shinga beer. Highly recommended!!
Great Thai food for a decent price
I really like the food especially for the price its a killer deal
Great food. Very loud and busy.
Came back after years and years - had a great time! The flavours have gotten better, but the service is just as quick. Got the spicy tofu, siam noodles and the thai lime iced tea. Spicy tofu was the best, so many veggies and cashews. Glad I tried the thai lime ice tea but probably wouldn t reorder, was just ok! So many veggie options, affordable and great vibe - will be back!
Salad king is my favourite Thai place in Toronto! It is affordable (an effort they do to make the students from TMU be able to buy food from here),incredibly delicious and very well-portioned. The trifecta of food when eating out. I went out with by boyfriend and our mothers. They both got the battered shrimp fried rice with sweet chili oil, my bf got the panang curry and I get my signature: chicken Siam noodles. We all had to take our food home because of the amount of food that we got. For the 20$ you will pay,it is worth it. Please visit this place it is a downtown staple!
Great food and drinks. Only if the staffs were more welcoming and friendly in term of taking table and phone service. Great location in downtown at night
As a vegan they said it was vegan food.they were frying tofu in oil after they fried meat.they told us they do this all the time.
I have been here multiple times, and while I always take pictures of the appetizers, I am so taken by the food, I inevitably forget to take pictures of the main course. All food items are delicious and well made. Update, finally remembered to take pictures before eating. Food
Great fresh food, fast service, affordable
Mediocre food. Staff seemed to be overworked and the quality of service was compromised. Got the green curry, portion size was good. Parking: Park in the Eaton Mall Parking and walk about 7- 10 mins to salad king
I love salad king! I get the same thing every time and it s delicious.
Nice spot to satiate your Thai food cravings!
Excellent Thai food, friendly service and a nice dining room with great prices. A fantastic Thai restaurant with a great menu and a decent set of gluten-free options for a celiac sufferer like me. I was limited in my choice of gluten-free starters.
This is my go-to place since Ive started working downtown. The service is quick and the food is tasty. I always get the islamic noodles with a 5 chilli spice level with shrimp. The 5 spice chilli level is perfect for me. Not too mild but not burning hot either. Its perfectly balanced between flavour and spice. I recommend this place as prices are reasonable and the food is excellent :)
Excellent flavor, exquisite
Toronto legend. Tasty Thai food and good prices.
Great food, service can br better...staff has a bit of a low-end chinese restaurant attitude that can be better.
One of my favourite place when in Toronto - Mandy and the staff are so professional offering different choices recommending a variety of delicious Thai dishes hitting the mark on flavour and fresh ingredients. Keep up the excellent work. Highly recommend for traditional Thai cuisine! Lino Food
Delicious Thai food, friendly staff and gorgeous atmosphere. Was expecting more salads to be available on their menu though.
Its my favorite Thai place when Im in Toronto. Food and service are always great! Portions are generous and affordable.
Still The King. A Ryerson icon, and still pounding out the great portions and flavours.
Affordable prices and even better food.
Amazing Thai restaurant in the heart of the city. On the second level opposite Ryerson Uni. They have the best noodles in the secret menu(not mentioned in the real menu) -ask for Islamic Noodles. It s heavenly, I always order extra sauce when I get takeout as you can t have enough of it.
