What an excellent dining experience!! We were able to get a table for 2 last minute which was great! The service from everyone was fantastic, very kind and welcoming and knowledgeable. The food was amazing!! Such a creative use of ingredients, textures, flavours, and presentation. The ambiance was really cozy and hip. 10/10 recommend! Can’t wait to go back!!
Amazing vegan food. I enjoyed every single item we ordered. Everything is thoughtfully made and spiced perfectly. Service is courteous and pretty fast for such a busy restaurant. Will definitely be returning!
What an experience! From the mixed cocktails to Desert hands down the best meal I've had in ages and it was the FEED ME VEGAN MENU!! Every bite was an elevation over the last like a symphonic crescendo to the climax!! The servers were charming, genuinely sweet and just as interested in every plate they presented with pride and care.. sincerest compliments to the Chef! Innovative delicious and beautifully presented food.. will be back again & again! 👏 BRAVO FatChoi BRAVO 👏 👏👏👏👏👏
This is probably my favorite restaurant in Toronto. It slaps every time, I’ve had the vegan tasting menu 3 times now. This review is for fat choi, but I’ve dined with people who eat meat and I love how they accomodate a vegan tasting menu with non veg ones. Every dish is just so delicious, nuanced flavors and textures. The turnip cakes and bao buns are standouts, but really every single dish is killer. I love that the menu regularly changes too so there’s always something new to try! Service is excellent too. And they just upgraded their seating to look more upscale and plush, also more comfortable. It is a consistent, solid choice for delicious food. Some of the best value for money with the tasting menu, very affordable at $55-60 with tons of food (7 courses) but as good as places like Lee and DaiLo that are $150-200.
We had the “Feed me” tasting menu and this was great! Really, each dish was unique and we had a great meal. Staff were lovely as well.
Fat Choi is an exceptional Malaysian vegan restaurant hidden inside Soos restaurant near Ossington and Queen. Entirely vegan, they have a creative east and south Asian inspired menu. I recommend the Feed Me tasting menu and letting the chef take you on a tour. Favourites include tofu and sticky rice, cauliflower and broccoli, and rice cakes. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Parking is difficult as always on Ossington, take transit or ride share.
Came here for a birthday dinner. The menu is inside of Soos restaurant and advance reservations are recommended. I think we had a total of 8-10 courses and they were all delicious. From the Char Siu Bao, noodles and dumplings they were superb. The ambiance and staff attentiveness were on point. Drinks were strong and smooth too. Looking forward to my next visit.
Cannot recommend this restaurant enough. We did the “Feed Me” tasting menu and it was so flavorful and filling. We also tried both desserts and a few different cocktails. The cauliflower dish and fried bananas were our favorites of the night.
Fantastic vegetarian medley of dishes. We loved everything but the slaw. Would definitely come back.
Booked on a Friday evening, and we had the Fat Choi feed me menu. I was excited to try an entirely vegan menu. The service was great and accommodating. The experience itself was not bad, but it wasnt great either. I left the restaurant feeling very tired and gross. The 7-dish menu sounded promising, but it was mostly fried food (I remember one salad), the dishes came randomly (no thread, sometimes dishes came very fast, sometimes more slowly), and there was too much (I never say this). Lastly, none of the food I tried was incredible or super tasty (though I loved the homemade roti). The worst part for me was the unpleasant set-up (high chairs with no back panel and a tiny table). After 2 hours of sitting on that chair, I was glad to go.
Omg their vegan menu is amazing !! 10/10 recommend
Vegan menu is the best
One of the best plant-based / vegan table across town!
As a vegetarian, I love Fat Choi. Super tasty and lots of delicious options
Cant say enough good things about Fat Choi and its amazing vegan food. The feed me menu is 100% worth it...it was great to try different dishes and we were really full after. Cant wait to come back again.
Delicious food! So good!
Food and cocktails were so amazing! I would especially recommend the bao!
Great food, great service. Weve been wanting to try here for a while and it did not disappoint. Def will be back.
Did the feed me option. Only the first two was decent. Food was too salty.
Food and drink was so flavourful
incredible food and cocktails!!
I was very excited to try this vegan Asian (Malaysian in this case) restaurant for my love of Asian food. I was lucky to secure a same day reservation and the checkin was smooth. The host was wonderful and the service was good overall. The atmosphere was pretty decent. Now talking about the food, I am a foodie and love exploring various cuisines and I rarely go to a restaurant to socialize but always for food. We ordered the feed me option and were excited to begin the tasteful journey. The first dish was rice cakes with radishes and onion and just 1 piece each for 2 people. Both the portion and the taste was very disappointing. The Kari puff was the 2nd dish, taste was ok, filing was dominated by seitan with no sight of chickpeas. Sharing 1 between 2 was ok. 3rd course was the seitan bao bun. The bbq seitan was sweet which was overwhelming and I had to use some Sambal to enhance the taste. 4th course was the wontons again dominated by seitan and that s all. 5th course was flat rice noodles, bit over cooked, the noodles were broken and lots of pieces of seitan and very little mushroom. No dessert included for that price which was unfair. Overall the food was dominated by seitan and it was not a very pleasant experience. I asked to pack my main course and it was forced into the smallest container possible, wasn t worth the price. The sambal was the star of the night otherwise. Overall not satisfied with the price to quality ratio. The drink was mediocre. I wish I could change my mind to give it another try.
Great place for plant based and vegans
We came to this place at 5pm and it was empty and the host stated that they don t take reservations and they won t get busy till 7.30pm so we decided to walk around and explore the area. We came back at 5.30pm and was told there was no available space except the bar and only a few tables were taken. The experience was not very positive and we will never come back to this place.
The food was OUTSTANDING! Had a vegan feast for four people, the dishes were so delicious and beautiful. 20 ingredient slaw No mapo eggplant curry Wontons BBQ Bao (OMG the BBQ seitan!!) Fried banana dessert with the vegan vanilla ice cream (Honey s)
Loved it. It was busy for a Friday evening but we got a table quickly. It was lively. The service was quick. The food was delicious. It was my first visit and did I say I loved it :) Vegetarian options: There are many Vegan options to choose from Parking: Ossington is always busy. There are two parking lots nearby (One near Queen and Ossington and one near Dundas and Ossington). There is street parking on Ossington too but it s crowded especially on weekends.
Absolutely incredible vegan journey! Where is your Michelin star?! Some of the dishes have an exquisite umami punch-through that hits the mark hard. So spot-on! Other than that, the bar area tables should be replaced as you cannot fit your legs between the table legs due to the design of having a table leg at each corner. Very uncomfortable in the bar area. Sore thighs and back pains.
The share menu is super perfect for a date of any kind. The portions are proper and it will leave your taste buds happy. Super awesome for plant-based and non plant-based folks. Also, the music selection was A1.
Love the atmosphere, the vegan food and the overall vibe ! Vegetarian options: Lots of vegan options here Food : 5/5 |
Easily my favourite restaurant in Toronto!!! I ve been several times and everything I ve tried has been incredible!
Cannot get enough of this place. Every time I go, its life changing-ly delicious. Great menu, I have yet to order something bad!! Vegetarian options: LOVE that its all vegan!
A nice selection of vegan dishes. The rice cakes and winter tofu were our favourite, and the cauli/broc dish was nice and tangy. However, the noodle dish was an odd assortment of veggies which seemed to lack flavour cohesion and had a very soft texture. Would ve loved a crispy element (more than just kale) and less sauce perhaps. Overall nice vibe and service.
Didn t even bother to update their google page that they d be closed for a month.
Delicious. A very special treat for date night.
The menu is a mind-blowing, palate-pleasing journey with incredible flavors and textures! I had the Feed Me option where they choose multiple dishes at a set price and loved every little surprise that came to the table! I walked away completely satiated and will 100% be back. Thank you chef! Parking: P Parking is just a few blocks down the street.
We ordered from the SOOS menu (non vegetarian). YUMMY food but too few options on the menu
While the Feed Me tasting menu started off a little slow, by the end I was stuffed on the best food in Toronto. Unpretentious and approachable, the food, service, and saying are all extraordinary. Let me say this again - The Best Food In Toronto. Vegetarian options: Vegan menu.
very good vegan food! very expensive but good service
Rating so I remember to try it
Amazing food. The feed me menu is so much food for the price. We loved every dish.
Great stop for vegan and non-vegan food. It was crowded but luckily we got a seat at the bar. Our server was very warm and she gave us great recommendations. The char siu bao was my favourite. The steamed bun was soft and the seitan was a perfect filling that was crunchy and flavourful. The tofu was cold but the black bean sauce was delicious. Unfortunately I missed taking a picture of the fried chicken but that was perfectly made. Thank you team Fat Choi! We will be back for more very soon!
Located inside of soos, this is one of my favourite restaurants in the city. Every dish is so good, and the tasting menu allows you to try a bit of everything! Vegan Malaysian food at its best!!
They have 2 menus: a vegan one and a non-vegan one. You can mix and match at your table if you wish.
Delicious vegan food! I honestly don t think a meat eater would be able to tell that it s vegan. Everything we had was great but the bao buns were particularly outstanding.
What a gem. It was so delicious. We were celebrating my daughters graduation. Loved the food. Top notch. Vegetarian options: We ordered the vegan sharing dinner.
This venue was great the service was on point the bartender was great he makes amazing margaritas! However will make what ever you like There is 2 menus a vegan menus and the regular I had the roti and this other dish sorry can t remember the e name of it but; it was great I really enjoyed it I will see you again
Visited Fat Choi last night with some friends. There were originally supposed to be 5 of us but a 6th joined at the last minute. Because we then had 6 people, we were forced to order the tasting menu and the restaurant had no flexibility on this. We arrived at 6pm and were told that despite our table spending almost $600 including drinks, tax and mandatory tip, we would need to be out by 8:00pm for the next seating. The service was incredibly rushed and new dishes came out before the last ones were finished, to the point that we had food piling up on our plates. The server was incredibly rude and inflexible and made the dining experience very unpleasant. In addition to all of this, the restaurant was unbelievably loud and despite being in the back, we couldnt hear each other speak. The food itself was plentiful and tasty, but the price tag was unnecessarily high for breaded cauliflower, coleslaw, pad see ew, fried vegetables and bao. Overall, this was a terrible dining experience. We live in Europe and this was an annual reunion with our local friends which was very negatively impacted by this meal. None of our party will be returning to Fat Choi anytime soon.
Fat Choi was phenomenal! My partner has several food allergies and they were so accommodating, and the food could not have been better. Delicious food, warm atmosphere, excellent service. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience!
Also named and under roof off Soos , was bit confused when I try to find it. Foods were great, tasty, creative, able to see and feel the passion of chef, specially it s Char Siu Bao and Spring tofu , very impressed! Food : 5/5
Everything was perfect! The food, the service and the ambiance. Best vegan restaurant I ve been to!
Lack of gluten free options. Very expensive for the portion sizes. Our server had a rude attitude. Vegetarian options: All vegan Dietary restrictions: Only three gluten free options
Unbelievably amazingly delicious. Fat Choi was my favourite restaurant before going vegan, and they never disappoint.
Ribs are fabulous.
Just the best. Wish I could come here every day.
Delicious food! Feed Me option is a must! Love the La Rambo cocktail
The absolute best vegan food in the city. I hype Fat Choi up to so many people because I know its that good. It remains my favorite spot in the city.
Holy heck This was such a welcome surprise. I heard this place was good but it s amazing. Definitely worth doing their chefs menu to taste everything. It s a tapa kind of place so get ready to exchange astonished looks!
Bomb vegan spot. Everything was proper
Highly recommend the FC Feed Me! We mentioned we would especially like to try the bao and noodles they made sure those dishes appeared.
Easily my favourite restaurant in the city. Super flavourful food, friendly staff, and I never leave hungry. Always best to get the tasting menu and I look forward to my next visit.
Great vegan tasting option called Feed Me is so much food. We were so full, but we got to take some home. The bao sandwiches with crispy stuff in it were they best. There were mushrooms which I dont normally like but I couldnt tell they were there. So many good crispy things.
Tasting menu. This is the way.
Food was wow, service was great, patio was fun!
My favourite meal of my entire Toronto trip (and possibly my favourite vegan restaurant thus far). All the food was 5 stars and none of them disappointed. The roti and dahl was perfect to start us off. The roti was flaky and the dahl was nicely seasoned. The crispy mushrooms had a nice chewy texture and a nice dip on the side. The red chili broccoli/cauliflower was flavourful with a mild hint of spice and the batter was crispy. The char kway teow might have been my favourite as the faux meat was smoky and the noodles were perfectly cooked. Portions are a little small considering the price but considering the quality and taste of the food Id say its worth it. They change up their menu so I dont think they have some of these items anymore but Im pretty sure whatever you get its gonna be good :)
Great little vegan menu hidden inside Soos. The char kway teow and murtabak were both delicious!
Yum. Food and drinks were superb. Adjusted dishes to remove my partners allergens.
My partner and I went to Fat Choi last weekend, and it was one of the best dinners we have had in the city so far. We ordered three of their plant-based dishes, and each one was equally as delicious as the next. I also had a house brewed ice-tea which was refreshing and crafted with care. The restaurant itself is small and intimate, and the wait staff are kind and attentive. We cannot wait to go back!
Easily one of if not the best vegan experience in Toronto. The food is unique and flavourful, well presented and great for eat in or call ahead for takeout.
Shared the vegan Feed Me. Every single plate was wonderful. A+ Attentive and excellent service 10/10
As usual the vegan menu was perfection, and the service outstanding.
I came here for my birthday and loved everything. Food, drinks and service is top notch. I been here many times and will be coming back again and again.
Amazing food, great atmosphere, lovely wine.
I made a reservation a week in advance to take my daughter for a special birthday dinner. We got seated on very uncomfortable stools a few feet from the bar. As there was a table in the dining area free, I requested we be moved there but were told that someone reserved that table. When I reserved I was not given the option or made aware that you can choose seating so I realized this was a lie. The hostess/waitress did not offer to move us when something opened up she was very unapologetic and unprofessional. She neither guided us to the coat stand and one would not be able to hang ones coat on the stool, lol. For a restaurant that offers multiple small dishes to share they should have larger tables to accommodate this with a table large enough to actually fit the dishes. I noticed she was not our server and she probably saved the choice seating for her own guests We just left. Luckily we were a ten minute walk from Fresh where we were treated really well and seated in a beautiful space and ate at a fraction of the price. I heard really great things about Fat Choi and we were very excited to eat there but they failed on a very basic level. I worked in the food industry for years as a server so I am usually very understanding and not picky but this was stupid. Its not enough to serve good food especially when you are charging a lot, you have to be hospitable as well its a whole package Fat Choi!
Chef in the back showcased an aura of respectability with his strut. Goes great with ring bolt wine!!!!!
Jackfruit sloppy joes were amazing
AMAZING flavour-packed, dishes! their Char Siu Bao is to die for. Mushroom Rendang and Roti, Prosperity Slaw, Red Chili Cauli/Broccoli...basically every dish is so damn good, we are addicted
One of Toronto s best vegan options - holds up for takeout or dining in! Ate on their patio on the weekend and got the Feed Me tasting menu, everything was amazing! Great and attentive staff, especially considering how busy they ve gotten with indoor//outdoor dining opening up. Can t wait to go back!
This was my 2nd time here. Very flavorful vegan food, nice atmosphere, clean washrooms, friendly staff and did I mention how amazingly flavorful their food is!! Only thing Id change is their portion sizes because theyre a bit small but packed with flavour.... but even with that said I still think theyre 5 stars!!
Not as great as I hoped it would be. The fried mushrooms were good but very greasy and hard to finish. The char siu bao was incredible and definitely the star of the meal. Disappointed in the char kway teow as it was very oily, not super flavourful, and it was missing the seasoned seitan that is described of the dish on the menu. Overall, not as flavourful or innovative as I expected. My tastebuds were bored. Maybe will be back when the menu changes.
Amazing service, amazing food! Especially good for a mixed crowd of vegan/non vegan. I was blown away.
Really really tasty vegan food. Char Sui Baos - tastiest baos i have ever had. Smashed Cucumber salad - refreshing Satay asparagus wrapped with impossible vegan meat - full of flavour with a lovely peanut sauce. Rice noodles with seitan - tasty smokey flavour. Dessert- fried banana with Honeys ice cream - unbelievable ice cream which was perfect with the fried banana. Every dish was amazing and the staff were so friendly and patient. I cannot wait to return.
I dont think I could say enough to do this restaurant justice. Ive been dined in many times pre-covid and have ordered takeout several times during, and its always been a culinary adventure. Every dish is just exquisite. If you ever had any doubt about vegan food and its infinite potential, this place will blow your mind. And if youre going in person, order the feed me option. Youre welcome!
One of my favorite dinner places in Toronto. Non vegans will love it too !
SO. GOOD. Bring your vegan friends here, and your non vegan friends. Delicious food, cocktails, good service. Grab 2ish dishes per person.
Interesting vegan tasting menu with unique/delicious flavours and great portion sizes! We will be coming back. Also, try a cocktail. You wont be disappointed.
This is my favorite restaurant in the city. I am not vegan but their testing menu is out of this world..I am.a pretty good cook but this menu gives me tastes that I have no idea of how to recreate..Great service. Just exactly what you want in a restaurant
The food here sent me on a journey like that food critic in Ratatouille. I am really glad I had the chance to eat here, the food is so good and made me reminiscent of Malaysia! We ordered the FC Feed Me set menu and it was so worth it, there were 7 dishes and each one was so flavourful! 10/10 would recommend!
The food here was incredible. Expensive, but incredible. I have no idea what they put on the edamame, but it took a whatever dish at most restaurants to something out if this world. We had the tasting menu and were so glad to try such an array of foods. Everything is veg, which is also awesome. Highly recommend for a special night.
Had a great time here with my wife. We chose the Feed Me dinner service off the Fat Choi menu, and boy did it ever hit the spot. One of the better dining experiences Ive had in a while - the food was exceptional. Johnny behind the bar was awesome.
Fat Choi serves up a plant focused menu, with Asian flavours. We ve tried: Xo edamame, smashed cucumber salad, Rempah fried mushrooms, and their scrumptious cakes (Chwee Kueh) My fav was the scrumptious cakes. I ve never had this before, but apparently, this is a popular breakfast dish in Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. I thought the cakes would be chewy like mochi, but they were soft in texture. The bits of salted turnips and sambal chili added crunch and spiciness to the mild tasting rice cakes. I thought this was interesting and delicious! In addition to the Scrumptious cakes, I think the fried mushrooms were also yummy, however, their fried Banana dessert is a must order! The Banana was soft inside, caramelized, and slightly brûlée on the outside as parts were sweet and crispy . Take a fork full of that with the Cashew gelato.. it was absolutely heavenly In any case if you want to switch things up and eat more plant based dishes, give Fat Choi a try
Literally the best vegan meal I ve ever had in a restaurant. Service was impeccable, Frances was an absolute angel!
Everything was delicious and the tasting menu is very well priced. You wont walk out hungry!
Walked in at 9.29 pm sharp after calling them 10 times on their landline and they declined to take my TAKEOUT order saying last call is at 9.30 pm. Nobody answers the phone even at 8.15 pm even . The server went to the kitchen and did me a favor by saying 90% dishes are unavailable. Later the owner walks in and declines to accept even that. Being a vegan and always supporting local restaurants, l thought l would patronise this one as l LOVE Asian vegan food. But take your business to SAIGON LOTUS IN KENSINGTON MARKET. SKIP this outlet. They DO NOT need your business. Ruthless. I drove 25 kms away just to try this place and order for 4 people. I do not wish to review this way, but hope this review saves other enthusiastic patrons to stay away to avoid disappointment. PS : Tell your servers to answer or return calls if they ask you to call ahead and order.
Fat Choi is making us all fat boys with how good their food was. Go for the feed me option if you can. Everything was delicious, good portions, for two people. The charsiu was way better than I thought with the seitan cut into thin slices, cooked well and somewhat similar to charsiu, and the sauce was good. The cauliflower and broccoli was also scrumptious.
Great vegan option place at the beginning of the week. Went with 2 friends and since most of the dishes serve 2 or 4, they adjusted the portion for three. Everything was delicious and we ordered practically every dish. The drinks were equally delicious and went well with dinner. Wish this concept was every day if the week, not just Mondays and Tuesdays. It would be wise to arrive early as the place fills up quickly with local and visiting vegans and non-vegans alike. I look forward to going back there again soon.
Literally one of the most flavorful (vegan) places Ive been. Hopefully it become a full time menu
Service was awesome. Super lovely and knowledgeable. Food was good, that cant be disputed. Just missing that bit of oomph. Still totally worth having. Just wish it had a bit more depth of flavor. Seemed a bit soy sauce heavy. Super salty food. 3 dishes is enough for two people. 4 if youre hungry. Atmosphere is romantic. I highly recommend giving this place and food a try.
Probably the best vegan food we ate in Toronto.
Most inventive and well executed vegan resto in Toronto hands down! The tapioca was the best dessert everyone at the table had ever had. Will come again and order everything on the menu...again.
Had the Feed Me tasting menu and was not disappointed. Incredible vegan food. The mistake we made was that we finished every course, because they were all so good. Once we got to the 7th, we were too stuffed to even touch it. Brought it home for lunch the next day. Only thing Id change is to swap out the last course in the tasting menu for a dessert. Theres already more than enough food. Highlights: Beet Maki, Wontons, Satay!
Awesome food. Amazing service. We had the Feed Me tasting menu. Every course was delicious!
My fave vegan restaurant in the city!
We brought my mom who was visiting from out of town here as she always said she d be vegetarian/vegan if someone would cook for her. She said it was the best meal she ever had, it made her cry and now she is moving to Toronto. We will be back.
Fat Choi is simply fantastic. I normally come to this location later in the week and on weekends when its running as Soos. The vegan affair that comes with Fat Choi is simply delicious. I hosted a Christmas dinner with some coworkers in the back family room, everyone in the group did the feed me menu which includes 8-10 dishes that come out one after another. EVERY SINGLE DISH WAS DELICIOUS! Especially the jack fruit sliders and the famous slaw salad. The cocktails were delicious as well, thank you Johnny (the bar tender). The service was also great - fresh plates halfway through service, always quick and very friendly. If youre thinking about coming here on a date or in a larger group, dont hesitate. Theyre also really good with allergies and dietary restrictions, substituting and making other options for those people that are equally as delicious. If you havent been to Fat Choi - go experience it!
Came to this restaurant with a group of friends. None of us were vegan, but we all loved the food - its sooooooooooo good! We did the feed me option, which was perfect for tasting a lot of items. Youll leave stuffed to the rafters. Great service. Great atmosphere. Im coming back.
Pop up restaurant operating out of Soos restaurant two days a week. Their dishes all look amazing and prepared with care.
I was super excited about trying this place. My friend wanted to play it safe, so from the menu we ordered the noodles of the day (Singapore style noodles was featured today) and the Nasi Goreng (Indonesian fried rice). The noodles were actually a bit dry, but the fried rice was decent enough. The menu offers other creative dishes as well, so if you are coming here, try those items, instead of the usual noodles/rice.
The food! The flavours! You definitely can t get this anywhere else! What an extraordinary experience! Everyone needs to go!
Had an incredible experience at fat Choi. Each dish was delicious, deep in flavour, and built on the previous one. Had the seitan lettuce wraps with super tender, juicy, and delicious seitan. The smashed potatoes with mushrooms and chimichurri was fresh and savoury with nice texture. The tortellini in a soy/wine jus perfectly balanced . No mapo no tofu was very nicely rich and filled with.umami .The noodles of the day were hakka style with broccoli and seitan in a szechuan chili oil balanced with some acidity very well. Overall one of the best plant based restaurants Ive been to. Excuse my awful photos.
Excellent vegan meal! A menu built to share multiple things. Do not miss the pineapple pie or the No Mapo Tofu.
Just a delight. Share as many things as possible to take full advantage of these delish eats.
Malaysian street food veganized! Amazing!!! My taste buds were dancing. The flavours were perfect. The service was amazing! The decor, music and overall ambiance was cool yet inviting! I highly recommend the Okonomiyaki, the FC Tortellini, and for dessert the Sticky Ginger Pudding!!!
Really good good. Not mind blowing 5-Star but very good. Definitely recommend trying this place out.
Wow, these guys get it: tasty, fast, well priced and hip. This team has a deep understanding of flavors and textures which is something that is totally lost on many purveyors of plant based food .
Best vegan food I ever had!!!! MOUTH WATERINGGGG.
Best vegan food in Toronto! Order the Peking Pancakes, Okonomiyaki and tortellini, they are a must!
I would have never ordered the cold tofu ($9) without prompting from a friend why would I want something cold, especially if it s tofu? But, as I bit into the silky soy bean block, swimming in a salty Szechuan hot chili oil and topped with onion frizzles, green onions, garlic, and peanuts, I wonder what inventive thinker came up with such a delicious take on tofu. This isnt your regular boring soy bean dish. Make sure you ve finished your conversation before biting into the satay wrap ($11) once you start you just have to keep eating it as it s impossible to put down and if you wait too long, the filling will start sliding out. The seitan adds a meaty texture against the delicate Bibb lettuce and the crunchy pickled vegetables; it s then drenched in a diluted peanut sauce that starts out slightly sweet but ends with a spicy bite. Even before finishing the okonomiyaki ($13) we were already contemplating if another order was needed. The light thin chewy batter with the crispy edges is slathered with flavourful shallots and spicy kewpie. On its own it would have been too heavy, but Fat Choi balanced the dish off with raw crisp red cabbage and Brussels sprouts to create a slaw topping on the savoury pancake. A dish that seems so simple but is surprisingly delicious.
Really enjoyed the food here and I m not a vegetarian! Had the okonomiyaki, mi goreng and stuffed roti. All were great!
Underwhelming and disappointing Had the Peking pancake, sloppy jack and okonomiyaki. The flavours of Peking pancake just weren t there, and it was a sad attempt to replicate the real thing. The sloppy jack s flavours were lacking, though the bun helped to provide some substance. Meh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing dish. Lacked substance and depth. Thank goodness for the Open Face Beet Maki. While mediocre at best, it was far better than any other dishes. The nori was nice as well as the overall flavours. Sadly, that s all the good news... We followed this with Stuffed Roti, Nasi Goreng, and daily Noodles. These dishes were carb heavy to make you feel full, but it was a poor and odd mix of flavours that just didn t work well together. One would hope for a tasty stuffed roti, but it was nowhere to be found. Have had so many rotis elsewhere that were very flavourful - truly disappointed. Don t get me started on the nasi goreng, let s just say it was nasty goreng. Blah. Meh. You get the point. The daily noodles lacked the wok hay that should star in this Malaysian dish. A below average dish to finish the main course. Onto the desserts - pineapple pie and sticky ginger pudding. The pineapple pie was an odd creation, and it just didn t work well. The sticky ginger pudding was sickeningly sweet... we left about half of each dessert, as it was too difficult to finish. I came with an open mind, and was sorely disappointed. Maybe a clean slate revamp of the menu would help... I don t know. It s an interesting concept, and if the food were tasty, it would do better. Price was high for what we ordered. Very disappointing. I hope they can make their dishes tastier and do well with this concept, but they need to put in some hard work to get there.
Unbelievable flavours and a wide variety of options for vegans. Great service as well! A must visit for anyone!
