Food was excellent but service was not. Ambiance also wasn’t as nice as the Montreal location. Overall I’d give it 5 stars for the food but 2 for the service, hence the 3 star rating. I love Sushi Momo Montreal and decided to try the new Toronto location for my 30th birthday - to be honest I regret it, and wish I had chosen a nicer restaurant. The staff was very clearly untrained and the bad service put a damper on the whole night. The ambiance also wasn’t really nice - bare decor and way too squishy seating. First I’ll start with the food - it really is spectacular, explosions of flavor in every bite and you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. We tried the agedashi tofu (excellent, and not greasy at all unlike most fried tofu), mushroom arancini, and several of their sushi’s. All of it was 5 stars. It’s an explosion of flavor with every bite and my meat loving brother said it’s one of the best meals he’s had in Toronto, vegan or not. I love their use of truffle on several dishes. The vegan meats are so so flavorful and the vegan cheeses are extremely realistic. Crispy rice was delicious and perfectly crunchy. The drinks were good too - I enjoyed the Japanese rose ume liqueur though it was a little pricey for a very tiny 3oz pour. Their sparkling sake was also delicious, we got the cheapest one on the menu and it was incredible, like sake Prosecco and would get again! The ambiance needs help. We were 4 people and the booth really only sat two comfortably. My brother and dad were extremely squished and they don’t even have coat check so we were shoving our heavy winter jackets and scarves too. They need to rethink the seating and perhaps keep the booths for 2 people max. And I really don’t know of any upscale restaurant in Toronto that doesn’t hang coats - I guess this is not upscale. The decor left much to be desired. It was bare white walls not at all the darker and dressier ambiance of the Montreal location - felt like I was in a casual takeout spot like a pizzeria. Finally the service. It was honestly really bad. First of all we were running late from drinks before, called to push our reso to 30min later and the man on the phone said no, they were packed and fully booked. Only to find out online they were showing tons of availability at that time in every section (including indoor which is what we wanted)!! So I changed the reso online, we arrived to find the tiny restaurant empty so I really can’t fathom why the man lied on the phone - there were several large empty tables around us, only about 2 other indoor tables were occupied. He had the potential to ruin our night and for absolutely no reason… it’s baffling and vicious! Then our server just didn’t know anything. For every basic question she shrugged and said she didn’t know, including basic descriptions of the sake and liqueurs, whether the sake was served warm, etc. She wrongly told us the sake was by the glass and I had to correct her based on what was written on the menu. We didn’t even bother asking her anything about the food. They brought out 1 tiny ginger and wasabi bowl for 4 people with 7 orders of sushi - we had to keep asking for more and ration it. The waiter then abandoned us for the last 45min and we had to ask someone else for our check after waiting and searching for ~30min. Overall the experience with service, seating, and ambiance means I will likely only enjoy this restaurant’s food through takeout moving forward. I do hope they make some improvements to get it closer to parity with the Montreal location in this regard!

The service was excellent. Good food recommendations and they accommodated our big group. I loved my spicy habanero cocktail. The food presentation was on point. I really liked this experience and being able to enjoy it with my vegan family but don’t think it will become a repeat go-to sushi spot.

Great food! Cute vibe. Good service. The DIVERSITY on their menu is something I’ve struggled to find at other restaurants! Loved the flavours and they have such a wide range of sushi. It’s a dream come true for people who are vegans/vegetarians and love sushi. Can’t wait to bring more love ones to try this place.

I’m honestly blown away by this place! I had heard amazing things about their vegan sushi in Montreal, so when I found out they opened in Toronto, I had to check it out. Let me just say—it’s beyond incredible. I can’t even believe it’s vegan! The flavors, textures, and creativity in every dish are out of this world. Everything we tried was perfection, and we loved every single bite. If you’re in Toronto and love sushi, this place is an absolute game-changer.

This place is a gem. This plant based, vegan sushi place gives you more then it's promised. The display of the food makes you excited to eat, the different flavours of every dish explode in your mouth and everything has its unique taste. From appetizers over the main course to the dessert I was sure in heaven. The service was amazing and my birthday dinner even more special. Even the place seems by the first look very busy and buzzing, but as soon as you sit down, you have your own oasis and can enjoy your meal relaxing and winding down.

It was a pleasant surprise to find my Montreal fav spot open up a location here in my own backyard. It didn't disappoint for sure. Although the menu has slightly different options than Montreal, it is totally worth it. The flavors, textures, taste does not disappoint. Heaven for vegan food lovers. Make a reservation and hit the spot !! The service and the staff is great. Would love to see more of Montreal menu items added here. Will return.

I was thrilled to hear that Sushi Momo was opening a location in Toronto, having been a fan of their Montreal restaurant. This new spot doesn’t disappoint—it perfectly matches the high quality of the original. Each sushi dish we tried was a masterpiece, both visually and in terms of flavor. The use of unique ingredients and creative combinations really sets Sushi Momo apart; it’s truly my favorite sushi place, even though I enjoy traditional sushi as well. I highly recommend this restaurant and suggest ordering around three dishes per person. The Big M fotomaki was a standout, tasting like a delightful sushi take on a Big Mac. The Kamikaze roll quickly became one of our favorites, and we ended the meal with the Darling roll, which was refreshingly sweet and light. Overall, Sushi Momo in Toronto is a must-visit for any sushi lover. We’ll definitely be back!

Being a huge fan of the Montreal outlet, I was quite disappointed with the Toronto version. The food was beautiful but the tastes and textures were not as harmonious as those found in the Montreal restaurant. Still very good but not so outstanding compared to other places to eat. Vegetarian options: The whole restaurant is vegan. The oyster shooter was tasty. The tiradito was beautifully presented.

I ve been ordering from Sushi Momo since moving to Montreal, and they ve never disappointed! As someone with multiple allergies, I deeply appreciate their careful attention to ensuring I never receive anything I can t eat. The food is always delicious, and I never have to worry about unexpected ingredients in my order. Tonight, as a starving artist who could only afford to order one sushi roll, I was so touched by the extra food they included as a gift. An unexpected gesture of kindness on a rough day. Thank you, Sushi Momo, for your fantastic customer service and your generosity. Your kindness and incredible food mean so much! Dietary restrictions: Very good about respecting dietary restrictions!

I am vegan and love to support vegan establishments. I m not from Toronto so when I m in the city, I try to eat some amazing food! The last time I was here, I ate at Planta and thought I had died and gone to heaven. It was so amazing! This time I came into the city, a friend suggested Sushi Momo so off we went. The atmosphere was nice although we found ourselves shouting over the loud music at times. Because our neighbours were also shouting over the music, we also now know about all about their personal problems. The menu was overwhelming so we ordered the tasting menu at the recommendation of the server and some cocktails. The cocktails were tasty but very tiny. Sip slowly! I m not a food critic so I won t pick apart every detail of the meal. Some of it was tasty. Most of it was too salty or too covered in sauce to taste much of anything. I tried one sushi roll that taste like a ham and cheese sandwich(I think it was supposed to be a burger?) and it was disgusting. If you are hungry, you will be satisfied as the servings are plentiful. We took home a lot of leftovers for our adult kids and they seemed to like them. One of our group spent unhappy time in the bathroom when they got home and I have a stomachache. I probably just ate too much. Maybe it was the $300 bill for 3 people. Ouch! We won t be eating at Sushi Momo again but thank you for the experience!

I dont understand the hype. Got the tasting menu. The sushi had extremely weird flavors (curry, basil, lime) that in my opinion did not work together. The chocolate dessert thing was so bitter it was inedible. I never complain about restaurants but I paid a lot and it was not good. Oh well. Maybe they were having a bad night. Had an absolutely delicius dinner! They have a very unique take on vegan and vegetarian sushi. They respect the ingredients, taste and texture of the ingredients rather than trying to mold it into a version of meat/seafood ingredient. The appetizers and soy sauce were delicious as well. However, I would not recommend the desserts. We got the poached pear and flour less chocolate cake. The poached pear flavour did not mesh well with cream served with it, and pistachio was tasteless. The flourless cake was too sweet and lacked depth in the chocolate flavour.

October 22, 2024

I went with my partner and the two of us got the tasting menu. To start off, the soya sauce must be watered down. A couple near us actually had theirs swapped out because they noticed the same thing, with no improvement. The miso soup was good, chocolate mousse at the end was good, but Im sad to say the rest of the menu was..pretty terrible. Shockingly so. Ive genuinely never had an array of different sushi roles with not ONE being tasty. All had very potent and off putting flavors, and I kept hoping the next thing Id try would make the price tag worth it, but unfortunately it was actually brutal to get through. The crispy rice items were super chewy, the rice in the rolls seemed under cooked. The service was fine (although no one actually asked us how our meal was going), atmosphere was fine, but Im glad I dont live too far away because nothing sat well in my stomach. I wish them all the best, but Id say the menu needs a serious revision and it isnt somewhere Id recommend.

I absolutely love sushi but this place was shockingly bad. I dont think Ive ever had worse food while at a restaurant in my life, no exaggeration. My partner and I had the tasting menu, the miso and dessert were fine, but the mushroom tartare, tiradito, and sushi were just plain terrible. The staff didnt bother to ask how our meal was, and I had to ask to get more water at our table when paying $180 for my meal. The electrical outlet by my table didnt even have a cover on it lol. At least it wasnt just us who were experiencing a fluke bad dish, the people sitting next to us were also suffering through their meal which gave me a good chuckle to know I wasnt alone.

After hearing nothing but positive things about Sushi Momo in Montreal, I was really excited to go to their Toronto location but I left with mixed feelings. My table got the tasting menu and there were highs and lows. Service wise was okay. We felt rushed at the beginning through the first and second course as they would be bringing the next course before we were even finished. In fact we had our soup before our drinks. Then ended up waiting a while for them to clear our last course and finally our bill. We also had to ask our server what rolls we were given as she didn t tell us when she put the plate down and when she did tell us, it was so quiet I didn t hear and had to look it up later online. Drinks: the Marg my partner got was great. I ordered wine and had to ask if it was sold per glass as it didn t say on the menu and only showed the bottle price. The only wines that are per glass are the first ones on each list (red, white, skin contact, etc). Food: Before I go into each item I would also like to call out that the tasting menu for Montreal and Toronto is the same but it s only $49 in Montreal and $65 here. Starter- miso soup. Pretty good. While it was sweeter than any miso soup I have ever had it was hot, had a good broth, and I liked the addition of mushrooms in the soup. Probably the best thing I had there. Would get again. 2nd- salmon tiradito- sauce it was swimming in was good, the salmon itself was just okay and hard to eat/pick up. You couldn t really take bites of it so it was all or nothing. The texture was somewhat similar to salmon and it looked like it but it tasted nothing alike. It didn t really have a taste at all so it s a good thing the sauce had a nice bright citrusy flavour to dunk the fistful of spring mix plopped on top. I had heard how amazing the salmon was from TikTok s about this place so it was disappointing to actually try it. I would eat a salad with the sauce as dressing if they added that. Main: I was given the Big M roll. It s the roll with the bacon pieces on it in the pic. The presentation wasn t my fave, the bacon seemed carelessly placed on top. I wish it was one per roll and cut in a more appealing manner. It seemed like torn sandwich meat at first. Texturally it was great but taste wise all I could taste was the vegan meat. I get what you were trying to do but it was too overpowering. Momo roll. It was probably the best out of the sushi but I wouldn t get it again. This roll had a more complex flavour and was a more enjoyable bite. I was thrown off by the basil in the sushi roll though. It was not something I expect to taste, even if this is just Japanese inspired. It lingers too long on your palette and impacts the flavours of everything else. Thankfully the ginger helped. Lastly- the avocado and black garlic krispy rice. Worst one. 1) too big to eat 2) hard to bite into because the rice was overcooked so chewy and hard thick outer layer 3) because the rice part was so big it tasted a lot like the oil it was fried in 4) the avocado and black garlic was too liquidy so when you tried to pick it up/bite into it, it got everywhere. Wouldn t get again. All the opposing flavours didn t sit great in my stomach and I was starting to feel off by the end. We finished off with a chocolate puddling/mouse. It was great- both texture, and flavour. No notes. At least it ended on a high note after the mess of the rolls. I wanted to love this spot and I hate to give a vegan spot a negative review but after hearing nothing but good things and spending $105 each after tip/tax I needed to share my experience. I might come back to try other menu items but if I am being honest I would rather go to Planta for vegan sushi.

The food was most definitely 10/10. The waitress service/pricing however may have tarnished the experience. My partner and I went for their tasting platter for $65, so we could both try out the different offerings. We were told by the waitress that the platter could not be shared, even though it comes with an appetizer, soup, main and dessert, which would have been impossible for one person to finish. We mentioned we would be getting more food and the waitress was then ok with that. As its not AYCE, I am not sure why the business would regulate how the food on the table is shared, which felt odd. I ordered the Nakano Toro Lychee drink for $15, which turned out to be a shot size drink in a larger wine glass (pictured), which did not feel worth it at all.
