Pho Rùa Vàng Golden Turtle Restaurant in Toronto

I don t think I ve ever gotten my food so fast at any other restaurant, literally took less than a minute. Good place to go if you re in a rush. Waiters and waitresses didn t acknowledge anything I said to them, and avoided eye contact altogether. They didn t even smile, it was kind of off-putting and made me feel like I was committing a faux-pas just by saying thank you. The cup they brought me for water was dirty, but I didn t ask for a replacement because of how uncomfortable the service made me feel. The food itself is alright, I was initially suspicious because of how quickly it came out but there was nothing wrong with it. The flavours are mediocre, but it s good for the price. Despite the prices, the service has turned me off from coming back here.

Dont waste your time going anywhere where else Ive been to pho 90, vu, thanh, linh for pho. This pho is the best! The only pho that comes close is pho tien thanh and pho asia 21. Golden turtle trumps them all. Even there spring rolls were on point.

The female waitress was incredibly rude she rushed us out by handing over the card machine as soon as she cleared our plates and utensils. We even thanked her, but she didn t bother saying a word back. As for the food, it was average at best, with tiny portions (well its around ~$15 but still doesn t worth it Wouldn t recommend this place!

This is my go-to place for pho and vermicelli! I feel like the broth compared to other vietnamese restaurants isn t as oily which is really important to me since I feel like I get a little sick of the soups after awhile if it s not. A solid place to go to for lunch :)

Of all downtown pho spots, I gotta say Golden Turtle wins it for me. From, Vegetarian friendly options that are carefully made everytime (gf always finds meat bits at other places) to crispy and yummy spring rolls golden turtle got me coming back since 2016!

I have been going here for years! The quality of the food was always excellent and consistent. Unfortunately today was not the same by far. The beef was dry, the vermicelli noodles overcooked and it was completely tasteless. I wonder if they have a different chef? All together disappointing

The food was good and served quickly. However, the service was terrible. The servers seem like they are doing something they dont want to do. They never greet or check how our meal is going. There is no smile on their faces. Why did they choose the server job if they really hate it? I dont understand.

I found something questionable in my soup a few months ago. What a shame cause this used to be my favorite spot! Will never go back.

I have been doing takeout from GT since 2013 and love the food. However, I am not a fan of the staff, including Linda, the owner. Linda s mother is very nice. but Linda is often surly and can be rude and dismissive. Tonight I witnessed the staff demean three bicycle couriers picking up orders. They were rude and abrupt to the couriers. When I said something about their behaviour, the staff countered that they [delivery couriers] have to follow the rules and they are rude to us too . Never okay! GT Be kind and professional because the delivery people are an integral part of GT s business profit! Customers appreciate kindness and professionalism.

This restaurant doesnt respect delivery drivers. I got a doordash order, and the pick-up was from this place. As soon as I entered the cafe, the guy started shouting on me that You delivery guys dont understand. Just go out of this place and read the notice posted, For delivery, you have to pick it up from a different door. Just go out, But it was my first time. I didnt know why so angry, man. never picking up orders from this place in the future.

Pho broth was good. Noodles were clumped together in soup and in pad Thai.

I have numerous food allergies. Staff is always great making sure I can eat safely. The only pho place where I havent had an allergic reaction. Their staff cares and the food is great.

I had a worst experience at this restaurant. The servers(2 women+1 man) are very rude and no respect to customers. Even foods are worst taste I ever had in Toronto. Don t go there! Waste of my money on New Years Eve!!!

Good service. Came for pho on a rainy day, and it hit the spot. A clean tasting broth with a good level of salt, but could have a stronger beef flavour. Not my favourite, but conveniently located and was able to get a table right away. The avocado milkshake was terrible. Very very icy/not creamy, not enough avocado or condensed milk. The mango milkshake was also icy.

Avoid this spot like the plague. This was our favorite spot for pho and we came here weekly. Unfortunately, the past few times have been a combination of bad service and worsened quality of phood. Sorry it too appealing to insert that in there. But for real, I dont know what has changed but bullying customers is not cool. Last time they argues with me over their employee giving me am extra $5. They proceeded to yell and stare at me like I robbed them and then realized they made a mistake. We laughed it off and said this is a one off.After that time I stopped tipping. This time (one month later) I was trying to save them time and put the menus back in their place (on the table on the left side of the counter) and again death stares and sassy comments while then ridiculing us. Both times I was treated terribly for a paying customer who did nothing wrong. Also, this time the pho was so greasy, it was really hard to enjoy it and the oil was all over my mouth. Shame to see another restaurant fall off the cliff I dont understand why anyone would treat customers who are giving them hard earned money (weekly) such a bad time. Both times I just politely nodded them off and continued enjoying my day. I wish you the best and we will be taking our business elsewhere.

I would put a 0 if I could. This place used to be my favourite place to eat Pho, I brought so many friends and family here, but the quality of their food has gotten worse not to mentioned that the staff is EXTREMELY rude. Seems that they forgot what customer service is. My pho was so disgusting and oily I couldn t finish it, I tried to eat the beef only but the oil remained on my lips. A true shame that they push away loyal customers like that.

The food is decent and very affordable, and good for a quick lunch, but the portion is a bit small. FOOD: #45 Com suon nuong, trung: the portion is a bit smaller than I thought. The meat is marinated quite sweet. It comes with tasty pickles. The rice is not the best but overall I like this dish. #7 Pho nam gan sach: the broth is quite good, decent amount of meat. Not a big fan of the noodles. Again the portion is small but its only $15 so not a big deal.

One of the best pho spots in Toronto, Golden Turtle has been an Ossington staple for years. Particularly during peak times, theres always a long wait here (and at their down-the-street competitor, Pho Tien Tranh) but patience will yield delicious and large bowls of flavourful pho, really good fried spring rolls, and a must-try Vietnamese coffee (which, for the uninitiated, is served with condensed milk - read: delectably sweet).

Quick, friendly service and fair prices for very good Vietnamese food. The patio is nice for people watching on busy Ossington. While maybe not the best pho in the city, its nonetheless very good and the price is right. The shrimp fresh rolls were super fresh tasting and the sauce was yummy. Drinks are pretty cheap too! Ive ordered takeout vermicelli from here many times, which for me is the standout - try the spicy lemongrass shrimp.

The staff is friendly and accommodating. I am not an expert in Vietnamese food and didnt know what to order, but the vermicelli noodles were fine. They have a patio, and the indoor was recently remodeled.

I had a terrible experience at this restaurant and wont be coming back. I also suggest that if you are a person of color (Black/Indian), do not go there; they dont want you there. Firstly, I called to ask if they had a patio and if I could make a reservation. A lady answered and told me there was a table available at the moment and that no reservation was needed. I hinted that I would be there in about 10 minutes to have dinner. Upon arrival, my girlfriend spoke to someone who happened to be the owner or manager. I could sense her reluctance to host us until I mentioned that I had called earlier and spoke to her, as I was able to recognize her voice. She then asked us to wait outside in the rain, with none of the other staff members aware of us waiting except her. Minutes later, she showed up and asked us to do a COVID screening. By that time, there were two white guests ahead of us, even though we had arrived before them and waited in the rain. We could have been asked to wait at the entrance for a table to become available. Eventually, we got a table and were served, but they never gave me a straw for my drink, nor did anyone check on us to see if we needed anything. We literally had to shout to order some appetizers. When we were about to leave, I paid my bill and left a 20% tip. As we were about to exit, one of the staff members, who seemed to be LGBTQ+ from his appearance, literally showed us out while I was still commenting on the meal and expressing that we would come back again. He nodded with a smirk and then pointed to the door. That was when I came to the conclusion that something wasnt right with this place! Its kind of weird that an LGBTQ+ individual would show discriminatory gestures towards a person of color. Its ironic, to say the least! Despite all of this, I tried to maintain a positive attitude in front of my girlfriend, even though all the negative energy resonated with this restaurant. I didnt know if my girlfriend noticed anything, but today when we were in the same neighborhood to have dinner, she didnt want to come back here. Instead, we went to Pho Tien Thanh, just 150m away, where the food was not only better but also delicious. It was probably the best customer service Ive received from a Vietnamese restaurant, and we didnt feel uncomfortable. The staff there were attentive, helping new guests get seated and assisting them with their dining experience. Unless you are Vietnamese or white and want to dine with your Vietnamese partner, I advise you to avoid this place by all means. Its not worth it, and this is the first time Ive left a review for a restaurant. I just had to. No one deserves to support a restaurant and not enjoy their meal in peace due to such a discriminatory attitude. It seems like your restaurant is doing well, so you dont need my business. Its just a matter of time before those four stars become three, two, and one.

I ordered a rice dish from here via ubereats. I got the chicken and pork chop on rice dish. It was okay I found the pork to be lean and dry, would ve been more flavourful if it was a fattier more tender cut and it seemed a lil overcooked. Chicken was fine though I wish the texture was also more juicy, it was also more dry. Overall, the meal was just mid. It satisfies the appetite but doesn t do much for the palette either. One of those neither here nor there dishes imo. There s better places lol

staff are with bad manner. Food is ok, not super great. I would not go back again and won t recommend. It made me feel more mad by seeing the review response by the restaurant. The restaurant did not ponder and try to make improvement with their services after getting the bad review but just fighting back with their reasons . Didn t they know it s also wasting my time to write a review?!! I never put on bad review and this is the first one I did. Of course I know some restaurants having a common 18% gratuity. You DID NOT remind us like you said but just we ACTUALLY DID put 18% included in the bill for a table with just having 3 or 4 party the time we re paying the bill. We totally didn t get it but couple of us still just paid by simply tapping on the credit card machine. Some wanted to understand why we were sort of forcing to pay 18% on a table of 4. Tips is a way to say thank you for servers for their services and the satisfaction of the services. We don t mind paying 18%, 20% or higher if the service we feel good. What made you mandatory put that 18% on the bill with table of 3 or 4. We wish we had the recording to show you the attitude you had towards the conversation. If you didn t think you had bad service manner, we only can say good luck to your restaurant. If there is a zero ranking, I d pick that on the service section. Lastly, I didn t even mention the 2.4% card fee charge that you didn t tell us in advance. Couple of us only knew after tapping/paying to see from the receipt. (Because you only shown us the total in your card machine, no breakdown). It s better to let customers know in advance to have the customer deciding paying with card or not.

Typically eye of round is used for all pho restaurants.. this place uses a higher quality meat I asked for it on the side and based on looking at the marbling and the taste its definitely of higher quality. this will be a go to for me!

They are no longer cash only!! Woot woot!! The food is delish, though they changed their menu recently, so if youre a regular, dont just order by number without glancing at it. The patio is covered, so its all good if it rains. Fast service, most times friendly. Lol. Im sad they changed their bowls to cheap plastic bowls. The rest is good. Cash only, good prices, great food. Parking: Green P nearby, but you can find free street parking if youre savvy and patient.

Stopped by for a quick dinner, we had a dog with us so we sat outside on the patio. I got the vegan pho which I don t usually see on menus. It was delicious!! The server was really friendly, and the service was quick! Can t wait to go back and try some of their other dishes.

I dont know what cuisine this is, but it is certainly not Vietnamese...nor is it even edible. I dont what kind of bùn needs to be bathing in canola oil...but it was unpalatable and a miserable way to spend 35$.

I am confused as to how people give this place less than five stars. I have lived in many parts of vietnam and find the food from here authentic and very tasty. I am always prone to stomach issue from restaurants and I have never had this issue with their food which speaks worlds to me. Their food is delicious and authentic!!

I used to come here a few times a week when I was living in DT, Nowadays, I live in MK n RH, and even there are Pho Restaurants. However, they cant compare to Golden Turtle. Soup is 1 of the best in whole GTA

Clean and comfortable restaurant. I ve ordered pho ga here for years and it s always great quality whether in person or delivery. The service is excellent, and I enjoy coming here for a comfort meal.

We ordered in Pho, fresh rolls, and banh mi - things weve been eating for many years from many places in Toronto and elsewhere. The food was fine, but I am curious to know if it is based on a different region in Vietnam that we are familiar with, because the banh mi was on a kaiser instead of the soft white buns, and the pho had large slices of carrots, broccoli, and bok choy - none of which I can remember seeing in pho before. So for us, we prefer the traditional ingredients that we have experienced before.

Do yourself a favor and never order from this place. I dont know how they managed to make everything so bland. Portions are tiny. Literally two beef calls. Not worth.

I decided to give a try to this restaurant again after a few years from my last visit but it still the same. The pho soup is too oily and no beef flavor. It was plain. I ordered a spicy pho but they only put the spicy oil on top and Its not even close to traditional style. Also I see some flies on my table when I am eating there tonight. I strongly wouldnt recommend anyone to go there if they are looking for a traditional PHO place. Theres other pho place on the same street is way better than them 100%.

Didn t want to review this place negatively but second time ordering from them and again a disaster. Pho was disgusting, oily broth and gross fatty pieces of beef that I wouldn t even feed to a dog, I asked for fried vegetarian rolls and they sent me pork. I do not EAT pork! Fish sauce is off smelling as well. Overall so annoyed and upset with whole experience tonight. I ll stick to Pho Tien Thanh down the street! Turtle is gross and has gone down on quality since pandemic. Before pandemic quality was way better and so was portion size and service. Dining in with them for lunch was a negative experience as well months ago.

A cute intimate restaurant on ossington that will be sure to warm your heart on a chilly autumn afternoon, i recommend getting any of the beef broths and drinking it straight from the bowl. I didn t order this item but if you are feeling a bit cheeky you can order the Pork Blood Jelly which I imagine is just as appetizing as it sounds, if not MORE!!!!!! The stairs leading the the bathroom has beautiful beads hanging in front of it which make a whimsical noise when you wiggle your falanges around them. The tiles on the stairway to the washroom are so beautiful and regal I am surprised they went with such a fancy yet tasteful material. A truly remarkable bathroom experience altogether but food is great too!!! I will warn you that this place has absolutely NO CURRY DISHES!!!! But that s okay because they don t try to give you a subpar curry they stick with what they know and what they know is beef broth soups and PORK BLOOD JELLY!!!! I encourage everyone to order it and sing a soft and tasteful song about the experience surrounding it. Xoxoxoxo

Today, I had a rather unpleasant experience here, and despite being very hungry, I couldnt finish my meal. I ordered a bowl of bun bo and a portion of vermicelli with grilled pork. The bun bos broth was off, it had the flavor of a different dish, like tomato broth or bun rieu or something, and was quite oily. The vermicelli was too wet, the noodles were cut very small and mushy, and the meat was a bit bland. The staffs attitude was also not great. A tall guy sternly reminded us that we couldnt bring outside drinks into the restaurant even though we had been seated for a while, and there was no sign outside prohibiting it. He said it with a rather tense and unpleasant demeanor, demanding that we either take our drinks outside or finish them immediately. We found this to be quite unpleasant, coupled with the subpar food, so we decided to leave before finishing our meal. Afterward, we found an ATM and went to Pho Tien Thanh to eat. Its just a few steps away, and the service there was much better

I would give the food & service a 3 star. However, I am docking a star because they automatically add an 18% tip (on the machine) + service charge (on the bill); my meal that was suppose to be 15$ became 25$. The server was rude when I asked & my table only had 4 people. Not how tipping works - either pay your servers a better wage or disclose this on the menu/bill beforehand. Not coming back in the future.

Came for a late lunch (around 3:30). Ordered two Pho Dac Biet (No 9). The food was good (not too salty) with good portion (generous with amount of meat). The service was pretty quick. I would have given a five star but the price on the menu and what we were charged was different. The menu said $15 for a large (and the website also says the same) so we were a little confused when it was time to pay, it was $36.17 ($36.17/1.13/2 = $16). This has been updated today to reflect the correct price. I dont want to make a big fuss about a $1 price but this is misleading. Needless to say, I was very disappointed and what was also disappointing was the fact that neither the staff nor the owner apologized. I wont be coming here again. There is no way you do not know about the incorrect price on the menu (which means this is dishonest).

The pho broth is bland, and very minimal meat to noodle ratio. I do not recommend pho from here.

The perfect place to while away the time with a buddy on a late fall day. Start with fresh spring rolls, beat that chill with their generous bowl of pho, and finish off with their hot Vietnamese coffee before heading out. Food : 5/5

The food quality and taste here is below average. The acoustics in the restaurant make it very difficult to have a conversation. The service was average. Wont be back

Wow! This place is so delicious! We got take out from here and we were a 40 minute drive from home. We got a pork vermicelli and 2 chicken satay vermicelli s. I was a bit worried about the meat being dry after siting for 40 minutes .boy was I wrong. The meat was perfectly tender and moist. Flavours are spot on! Meat portion is very good. Will definitely be returning! A must try!

Food was good enough but service ended up being terrible. The staff or kitchen mixed up our order and then overcharged us for for their mistake, and wouldn t correct the price. Paid $60 for two bowls of noodles with meat. Never coming back. EDIT: Restaurant response is completely misleading. We told the server what we were trying to order, he said he remembered us and our order from a previous visit, he took away the piece of paper and repeated our order back to us correctly, we confirmed. And then there was tofu we never requested in our dish, and we were charged double for it.

Very quick turnaround and wait time isnt long for a table (around 10 min for lunch on a Sunday). Very friendly service, cash only. Their bun (rice vermicelli) was tasty, although the shrimp and sugar cane was just so-so. The pho soup base was very flavourful.

Great family owned business. Food is delicious and the service is awesome. Been coming here for over 10 years, never disappoints!

Great broth, good pho, and fine service. Their broth are lighter than the other places which I really enjoy, but the servers there didn t really want to talk to us, and I also saw flies sitting on the sriracha and the chopsticks.

Classic pho restaurant interior and energy. Our service was super friendly and food came out lightning quick! The pho broth was a little on the bland side, but still delicious nonetheless. Beef was fresh and tasted like good cuts. Overall the food is great, not disappointing at all. Restaurant is clean and bright. The seating feels a little cramped but some might find it cozy to be a couple centimetres closer to their company than usual. Youll start with water instead of tea here, so ask if you want that!

I got the grilled pork, spring rolls, and vermicelli dish and it was just okay. They gave a lot of fish sauce which was a bit excessive. Their vermicelli smelled synthetic and very chemically. The portion was also smaller than other places, with higher prices too. So definitely not as worth it. The only thing good was that they have daikon in the dish which made it slightly better.

The first place I think of when I crave Vietnamese a true testament to my absolute love of this cuisine.. tops the list. Great service. And the food didn t take forever to prep. Took mine to go to enjoy in Trinity Bellwoods on a sunny day.

The grilled king prawns are large and tasty. The sauce is quite good!

Always see lines in front of the restaurant. Definitely worth it. Better dine in than take out.

One of the best pho in town - not just Ossington. It s always a tough call between this spot and the one a few blocks down. I will say, the addition of veggies such as carrots, broccoli and amount of beef used gives their pho an edge. That being said, the broth isn t as tasty as their neighbours. Personal choice - still a 5 star pho spot. (They also take debit, that can make a huge difference lol). Vegetarian options: Offer a veggie pho broth

Horrible. pad thai and pho noodles are stuck together and taste like a dough. Meat tastes and looks like a slice of ham.

The broth is meh. And the noodles serving is small, just in a big bowl, they need isn t really rare either.

A small restaurant thats bright and clean on the inside. Tasty pho and the fried pork springrolls were also pretty good! The prices are a bit on the higher end though ($6 for 2 spring rolls). You have to pay for tea which is unusual for Viet restaurants like this. Service was super fast, I didnt expect that was it was very appreciated since we had somewhere to head to afterwards

When our employer moved to downtown from the west end, we stopped going to this restaurant. That was over 20 years ago. Just checked it out this Dec 2022, and its more popular than ever !!!! There was a short queue but it goes quite quickly. Their broth is still great and semi clear. The interior has been renovated and is quite modern. And lastly, one doesnt have to talk above the loud vietnamese music because we didnt hear any while we were there. When in the west end, we will go again. Its reassuring to know that some businesses just keep on going... well done golden turtle !!!

Love taking myself here self-date nights and the house wine with Pho is key
