One of the more popular HK cafes in Markham. Theres always a line but at times it moves quickly. No frills, simple, hearty and affordable HK Cafe food. Theyve got various breakfast set meals, lunch along with dinner. I ended up having *C* in their breakfast menu that included bacon, eggs, bread and a bowl of beef satay noodles.

My mom went to order, they some how talk fast and talk bitchy automatic charge $1 on container she questioned hesitate. I call back how come waitress talk bitchy and charge $1 on container was not clear. They talk fast with bitchy manner attitude before business was sold. They have enough business their waitress do show some attitude. I go myself but not a loyal fan. Im NOT SHY to ask if they charge one dollar on container or take out drinks cups. IF YOU ORDER TAKE OUT -ASK WAITRESS DO YOU CHARGE $1 ON CONTAINER. Sometimes no dont charge sometimes not clear. 50/50 charge $1 on container ( Some restaurants places clear do charge but understand their waitress NEW CITY restaurants TALK BITCHY). After COVID I did bring my son there to dine in and I asked if u charge $1 for take out drink no... They saw I brought a 8-9year boy to dine in so did not charge me. Anyway their waitress can get bitchy!!

Parking: Its hard to find a parking space during lunch time

we ordered the gon chow ngau ho (stir fried beef noodles, i think it was called that on the menu), ngl i forgot what the baked dish was but it had fish in it ... and like creamy white sauce, we also got the Portugese chicken and rice but i forgot to take a good picture of it. the three dishes we ordered came with a drink and soup which was good! i love HK cream soup but the soup was kinda sad and lacked the basic elements of HK cream soup such as corn and ham. there was barely any flavour. nonetheless, the food was decent and the waitresses were all very kind. however, it took really long to get our orders and they kinda forgot our orders at times.

Authentic and tasty Hong Kong style dishes. Prices are generally competitive. Food is generally delicious but some of the dishes can use some veggies added... A couple pieces of broccoli or carrot wont add much to the production cost and itll greatly boost the appeal and taste of dishes. Be prepared to line up. This place is popular.

One of my favourite HK style restaurants in Markham. We usually go there for breakfast and I love their toasts. However, it gets really crowded in the mornings, especially if you go around 10. Staff is courteous and attentive. Few things to note - 1) there is no waiting area, so you got to stand outside in the sun in the morning. 2) they only take cash or Interac. If your bill is less than $10, then it s cash only.

I visited New City Restaurant with my friends for a very filling meal, and it was an experience with plenty of stories to tell. The restaurant was very busy, and we had to wait outside for over 15 minutes. We received a numbered paper, but due to the servers English, we felt we lost our position because we couldnt tell if she was calling our number or asking about our party size. Eventually, we had to go inside and stop another server for our seat. Im fairly sure they missed us initially. Inside, the atmosphere was lively, with many people chatting, like a bustling cafe in Hong Kong. We did notice a very strong AC blowing directly on our table, but we got used to it, and it didnt make us too uncomfortable during our stay. Our server had accents, but she took great care to check and double-check our order, which was good. Heres what I ordered: #F Baked Pork Chop with Tomato Sauce: I chose the Russian Borscht, spaghetti, and added cheese on top, as recommended by my friend. The soup was more like a cabbage soup but did a great job of warming up my stomach for the big meal ahead. The baked pork chop with spaghetti was served in a huge bowl with lots of meat and noodles. The extra cheese was grilled to a golden brown, adding a delicious touch. The tomato-based sauce was mild and helped me finish the noodles. The pork chops were huge and meaty, and while I wasnt used to eating pork with tomato sauce, it was quite enjoyable. I managed to finish the entire bowl, though I was very full afterward. Milk Tea: For just a dollar more, I added a milk tea to my meal. It was a strong, unsweetened milk tea that was a perfect ending to the large meal. Overall, I was impressed by the amount of food they served. It was such a great value. Despite the initial confusion with seating, I had a good time and would like to return to try some of their other offerings.

I ordered a take out at 11:10am. It took the restaurant 40 mins to prepare the food. The waiter kept apologizing during the 40 mins, but it was just too long for the wait.

We are very impressed with the customer service provided by the employees here as the previous owner and staff treated customers very badly. They are one of the best team of servers among the HK style cafe in GTA. The portion of the food are very reasonable (as shown in the pics) and very tasty as well. $$$ are very reasonable too. Gotta try it yourself and I would definitely come back with my friends and family :)

This is a regular restaurant for me and many friends. But its the first time I tried their honey mustard bake chicken with rice. Its super surprisingly good.

4.5/5 Milk tea 5/5 - It is smooth and not too greasy. The balance between tea and milk is moderate and very balanced. Bacon with scrambled eggs - the eggs are smooth, with egg juice, and the bacon is crispy. Although it is not as delicious as the other with the famous black truffle scrambled eggs, it is still very good. If the fried egg is thicker and the thin egg skin is not eaten, the score will be higher. Satay Beef - Blue Blood is a very important part of Hong Kong-style breakfast. As mentioned above, apart from the authentic and delicious satay beef from another restaurant, Guojianglong, this is the second restaurant to obtain the Pass score. The sand tea is well fried, the soup base is not water, and there are no green beans falling from the sky. If you add some chili shreds and peanut butter, it will be closer to Hong Kong taste, but of course the cost will be more expensive. Perhaps because of fear of peanut sensitivity, almost no store will add peanut butter to stir-fry. All in all, there aren t many choices for finding a Hong Kong-style tea restaurant for breakfast before 11 o clock, which is pretty good.

Being from Hong Kong we often crave a little bit of the taste of what we grew up on. We pass by New City Restaurant many times and decided to try something new for us today from the normal places we normally go to when we yearn for some hometown nostalgia. We arrived on a late Saturday afternoon and the place was still pretty busy and there was only one table available when we got there. We decided to order the Baked Seafood Spaghetti, the Stir Fry Beef Udon on a Sizzling Plate and the Pork Chop Rice. Portions were a bit small, but everything came out great. Our favorite was the Pork Chop Rice because the tomato sauce really transported us back to Hong Kong. The only complaint of there was one, was that there wasn t as much rice as we would have liked. The Baked Seafood Spaghetti was good, but we would have liked a little more cheese. The Udon tasted good, but gets pretty greasy the closer you get to the plate. The service was amazing for Hong Kong standards. Overall, this was a good experience on par with the other Hong Kong style establishments we normally frequent.

Hadnt been here in a long time and I was pleasantly surprised by how well they had kept things up. Prices are decent with good sized portions, service is prompt and the food is tasty. Their milk tea is very good although a bit on the small side. Could be a bit cleaner though

The food is so delicious! there are plenty of options to choose from, and they offer quality meat. The staff are really nice. It is a busy place, and there are lots of parking spaces. The prices are actually reasonable, but it doesnt make justice to the very well seasoned food. My family and I enjoyed the overall experience of dining at New City restaurant. Parking: It is a busy plaza but there are a lot of parking spaces.

Surviving well in a very competitive Chinese food GTA environment, this restaurant is doing quite well. Most of the customers order the sticks in hot stereo dish. end. The services are also good. Strongly recommend.

No doubt their Hong Kong style baked rice and pasta is invicible. Recently I found that their Spicy Meat noodles are great, too. If you dont mind to wait for 10-20 minutes to get a seat, here is a good choice.

Easily one of my favorite HK style restaurants! Their iced lemon tea, deep fried chicken leg and honey garlic chicken wings are my faves! Ive been visiting this restaurant for well over two decades. I always get party trays from them when I host parties at my place - their chicken wings are always a hit for my friends. One of the more popular items on their menu is the Sizzling plate sirloin steak! Arguably one of the best you can find in town. Highly recommend New City restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Baked Rice with Pork Chops and Steaks in Tomato Sauce (The steak is too dry and old. The pork chops are too fat. The tomato sauce is good, but a little oily. The rice is good Cream Soup Baked rice with Portuguese chicken and chicken (The rice base and chicken are delicious and very wok-like. It s the first time I tried Portuguese sauce and it had no flavor and was so boring. The accompanying mandarin duck and borscht soup are both good

I had no expectations at first, but as soon as I saw the octopus patty rice, I knew it was Hong Kong style. Then I saw that the last cup of milk tea had the name Golden Tea King written on it. As soon as the food came on the table, I knew it was a dragon and a phoenix. Sure enough, everyone was surprised. Disappointed, the food was hot enough and of good quality. The borscht soup has rich flavor and the Hainanese chicken rice is delicious and the chicken is smooth! Another thing is my sisters Cantonese speaking and attitude, which makes everyone both love and hate her!

It is a very authentic Hong Kong style tea restaurant. Every item is delicious and fast. The staff is friendly. The large chop is a classic and a great addition to the meal (super affordable). I actually love their salt and pepper bone fried noodles the most. The noodles are fried very well. Its very good, not too dry and chewy, salt and pepper bone is crispy and fragrant. My friend loves egg nuggets.

I went to the New Mongkok Plaza around 1:45 on Sunday to get some food. I walked around and found that the New City Restaurant had the most people queuing up, so I queued up to try it, but it took about 15 minutes to get a table. When my sister saw me studying the menu, she recommended their curry rice. I saw that the curry rice looked good, I wanted to eat it, and it was not expensive. Lunch was $11.99, so I ordered curry beef brisket rice for two people. I thought it was too much. Minutes until tea time, order multiple meals. The curry is not bad, the portion of beef brisket, beef root and potatoes is enough, the brisket is normal and juicy (most people who eat beef here dont know how to cook it), the curry sauce is moderately strong, not overly spicy, and is of normal tea restaurant quality. The milk tea and borscht served with the meal were fine and there were no surprises, so I still didn t understand why there were so many people queuing up to eat here. I saw someone ordered pineapple oil but couldnt find the menu on the counter or posted it on the wall, so I asked my sister. Who knew that this lady answered that pineapple oil is not an afternoon tea meal? When I wanted to continue to ask which menu it would be available on, she interrupted me with a fierce and impatient tone and said that she would bring the afternoon tea meal. Give me the cards. Faced with such an attitude for no reason, it immediately ruined our enjoyment of afternoon tea. Even though the lady said she was sorry when she gave me the menu, her tone was harsh, as if I had offended her! When we paid the bill, we were not given tips. Another lady politely asked why. We also expressed dissatisfaction with that ladys attitude and did not want to give tips (although we were given tips in the end). If it werent for my sisters impoliteness, I would give it 3 stars, but now I only get 1 star.

Never disappointed to come here. Food is on point and the grilled mix plate is we a shareable order. You can order that with fries, rice or pasta. The mix grill comes with a decent size cut of pork chop, steak, a slice of ham, hot dog and a strip of bacon. The grill mix also comes with a side of soup (hk style borscht or cream soup), 2 slice of garlic bread, HK milk tea or coffee and to round up the meal ice cream for $20 something! Warning, they close at 8P.M and the place gets packed near that time. Dont forget to order their huge fried chicken wings! Plain or honey garlic. Must try honey garlic :D

I very rarely leave reviews but this one was just outstanding for the worst reasons. Meals had here: Steak meal - pretty good for the price. Beef brisket ho fun soup - terrible; the soup was watered down, the brisket tasted gamey, and the worst part was the ho fun as it was so overcooked that it was completed broken down (I.e., instead of strands of noodles, it was basically just sticky, wet and mushy small pieces) Toast and butter - decent, it was 1 slice of toast with spreadable butter but the toast was very thin Coffee and Milk Tea mix - was not good; tasted very sour as if the coffee had gone bad. Milk tea - pretty good I have been here a few times, and unfortunately, I have not had many good experiences with this restaurant. The first time I came here, it was a fine, normal experience. Second time, we waited almost 30mins to be seated despite there being a booth available the entire time (amazingly enough, when we got seated, it was that same booth they gave us), and after ordering, it took us another 30mins to receive our food after we inquired with the waiter so they most likely forgot about our order. Third time was the worst experience: we got seated quickly and apart from the terrible ho fun, thinnest toast ever, and coffee/MT drink, it was going to be a normal meal, but towards the end, when we got the bill, we saw a $2.50 charge which we asked the waiter about as on their menu, it said Add toast $0.30 to a meal, which is what I did, and according to the waiter, YOU ordered the toast so its $2.50, but if SHE (my partner who ordered a different meal set) ordered it, it would have been $0.30. I was completely taken aback that this even exists since we both ate everything together in a way, and I was about to be fine with this weird ruling until the other waiter (the one that took our order) completely unannounced, came up to our table in a very accusatory manner, pointed at me and shouted yeah its HIM who ordered it, not her so its correct. Who does that? Either way, I will never be coming back to the place and recommend no one does as their food quality does not at all justify their predatory sales tactics and disgusting customer service.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! DO NOT COME!!!! We originally came here for lunch with my mom and my 8 months old son. My mom went in to find a table first, there s nobody serves us at the front and we see many empty tables so we thought maybe it s self serve? So we sat down on one of the empty table and one of the server decided to come but instead of serving us she decided to yell at us and told us not to sit there and wait at the door to be seated. Okay fine, we stood up and waited at the front while carrying my baby. Waited 10 minutes, 15 minutes, we asked for help, no response and we left. Terrible service, very unwelcome to their customers. Will NEVER come again. Blacklisted.

Our go-to Hong Kong style café for many years. Whenever were in the area we visit New City for a quick bite. Our favorite items include French Toast, Fish and Chips and Fried Chicken Wings. Some people might not find their down-to-earth interior or very basic services enjoyable. But if you love authentic tastes from HK, I highly recommend New City Restaurant.

Super delicious hk cafe with a clean and comfortable environment. I love getting their hk style french toast. It s crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, just like how it was back in hk. Also heard they got a new owner and is super receptive to customer s feedback. Would highly recommend this place for some affordable and authentic hk food!

They reopened after their few weeks break in sept and Oct. There are definitely some subtle changes, such as the signs, decor and new wait staff. Also some of the plating and food are different. Still a go to staple in the area.

At this price range, I cant expect anymore. We went there for set breakfast, and not a lot of places are now less than $10. The menu is very complete, and during weekdays, you can even swap the ingredients. We ordered the satay beef spaghetti in soup, with bacon and eggs, and bread with butter. The food quality was acceptable at this price range. The HK style milk tea was unexpectedly good. The servers are fast and helpful. May return in future for lunch and dinner.

Bright economic Hong Kong style food

Food was pretty good with decent portions. Prices were very good as well. Only complaint is that my groupa with rice didn t have any vegetables at all! But otherwise the fish was flaky and moist. As for their HK milk tea, it s on par with other HK cafes. Parking: Because this plaze is full of restaurants, parking around meal time is atrocious. I would say try to come during off-peak hours unless you re feeling lucky.

After I changed my mind, I tried to serve borscht twice, but it was only lukewarm and not hot enough. Although the taste of the soup was almost the same as before I changed hands, it was a failure if it was not hot enough.

Support New City Restaurant, the food is first-class, the service is attentive, the milk tea is delicious, (unlike Jacobs Restaurant, which is just rubbish, the entire kitchen is full of garbage very disgusting, all the sauces and meats are laid out underground, and the hygiene is very bad. The channel has been open for a long time You can see bugs crawling around at the back door at any time)

Arrived at 6:48pm on a Saturday and it was closed, despite a giant sign saying 8am-8pm in their window and online.

Fast service. The food was good and typical Hong Kong style cafe. They had a special meal for 9$ which includes rice noodle with pork BBQ, one hotdog sausage, scramble egg, toast and a drink.

This is one of those famous hk style cafe that people love and keep going back to. If you arent sure about this place, think of it as a golden nugget of HK style cusine.

Maybe I ordered it wrong, the cream grouper is really not delicious, the taste is very bland. But the milk tea is the best Ive had in a tea restaurant nearby.

Always my favorite place for Hong Kong Baked Tomato Pork Rice (fried rice). Amazing food and hong kong milk tea.

Honestly, this place is a bit overhyped. But the Aunty s working provide a fast service and are very kind, and the meals are reasonable priced. I d definitely come back for lunch if I was ever in the area. Thanks team.

Best daily Hong Kong style restaurant

OG Hong Kong Cafe place. If you go after 12pm, there is usually a lineup but it does go by quickly. The staff are usually friendly. The food comes pretty quickly. I truly believe that this place deserves more five stars and Google reviews because most of the customers that comes here are older Asians that doesn t really use technologies. They have been in business for more than 20-25+ years. This HK cafe is as authentic as it gets here in Canada.

There are many parking spaces, the environment is average, the food is good, and the waiters are very kind and courteous.

2022.11 typical Hk style breakfast. Good milk tea but not hot enough. I had the satay beef spegatti, a bit tasteless. Sandwich is ok. Lot of people, but turn over fast. Good price

I came here for breakfast a few days ago. The breakfast menu had only very limited selections. I ordered pork rice noodle in soup, and ham omelette. The noodle soup was very salty. The ham was cold ( maybe warm at the best) inside the omelette. The HK style milk tea was better than average. Food had too much msg, I suspect it was the noodle soup.
