We loved the roast , their gravy is very nice. It has become a family favourite.

Had a lovely Xmas lunch with colleagues from the office. The service was outstanding and personal, even the manager I think was called Elvis came over to greet us and we had a lovely chat. We will definitely be back soon

Waited over an hour from starter to main. Mains arrived..6 ordered 5 came, wad told sorry we havent got the Wellington! 3 out of the 5 meals were microwaved. Summary: service rubbish, food rubbish. Will not be going again & a 2 rating is generous

We were here last night for drinks Today we booked a table for 7 for Sunday roast We were asked to open a tap to order our drinks, which we did We ordered our Sunday roast on the app, which we paid upfront Our different Sunday roast was very tasty After we finished, we have to wait for more than 30 minutes to pay for the drinks - on the tap - as the system was down. We couldn t neither leave nor pay or order more drinks or get complementary coffee. The supervisor Simona was not very professional as she was only shouting / panicking giving no proper answer whether how long we should wait or if the bill can be sent to our phone. Finally we were told that the system was back to normal and that we could pay our drinks ( invoice is attached ) Very disappointing //// -// Last night - October 26 - We had dinner & drinks, a £30 was deducted from the bill. When it comes to London pubs, you dont get much more cosy and wholesome than The Malt Shovel. The atmosphere was warm, vibrant, and the service by Amy and Leah was impeccable. Will definitely come back.

I regularly eat at this pub. The food is probably the best in the area and it has a decent range of beers, etc. Staff are always friendly, but service on occasion can be hit and miss. There have been a few occasions when going to the bar Ive encountered a few patrons looking puzzled because there is no one behind the bar.

We had a lovely experience at The Malt Shovel, staff were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. The pub itself felt very festive and cozy, perfect for the Winter ahead and a very inviting bar and selection. The food we ordered was delicious, 3 out of 4 of us ordered the pie of the day which was delicious, along with accompaniments and a very good portion. We will definitely be back, and we very much enjoyed the pub quiz. Definitely on the pricier side but we had an offer by signing up the app which was a nice bonus.

We are regular customers of Malt Shover, manly for brunches or lunches outdoor in front of the canal. Always have great time with good food and wine there. Yesterday we had dinner for the first time there after the renovation done in July. Excellent new menu after renovation with grilled lamb, wine, lemon cake, cosy atmosphere and great service. Thanks to all the staff there. We ll be back soon

Food very good, but Turkey stuffing looked and tasted like a 1cm thick piece of wood pellet - obviously from Iceland and overheated . The turkey, Yorkshire pud, gravy and veg were nice. Kids enjoyed their pizza. Service was very good and serving staff (Tristan) very pleasant and helpful.

I havent been to the Malt Shover for quite some time, and so I was pleasantly surprised to see that it has had a bit of a makeover. We booked a room for a wake and had a buffet lunch, which was very good for the price. The room was very well set out with a door to the canal towpath. I would recommend this lovely little pub/restaurant. And will be very happy to visit again, albeit for a happier occasion.

A warm, cosy pub with friendly attentive staff and superb food.

Great night and the service was amazing. We were served by Reece and Tiarney and they both did an amazing job.

Tried the shovel for the first time since it was updated. Things started well, we were shown to our table and our order was taken by a very professional young lady who told us it was her first day serving as she was normally behind the bar. Our starters came and were excellent... And thats where it started to go wrong. Before wed finished eating our starters our mains arrived. We pointed out to the young man that they were pretty useless to us at this point seeing as we still had our starters to finish. He took them back to the kitchen and we spoke to the member of staff who took our order who assured us that fresh meals would be cooked for us and brought to the table after a suitable time. What happened next was surprising, the meals we were given clearly werent fresh and clearly were the ones brought to our table earlier having sat under warming lights for 15 minutes or so. The bun on my burger was dry and crispy, everything on the plate was hot including the sauce and salad that clearly should have been chilled. The mushy peas on my wifes plate had a thick skin on them, the fish grimly dry and sad looking. Yum yum. We went and found the member of staff serving us and on being told she looked horrified by what wed been given apologised and ushered us to the manger. At this point things might have been saved but while she was apologetic and willingly subtracting the cost of our disastrous mains offered nothing more, no drinks on the house, no discount of any kind. Just a request that we give them another chance. Lol. Sadly I didnt keep a copy of the bill so Im left with a horrible feeling I actually paid a service charge for the pleasure of having half a meal. The starters were great, some of the staff are excellent but something is very wrong. Thanks for replying but you had several chances to make things right while we were in the restaurant. Weve no intention of returning, customers lost forever.

We went for a midweek dinner, as always food was perfect, lovely atmosphere, and great staff, our server was Ronnie-Ann, she was very polite, friendly and attentive, good service makes all the difference, we will be returning soon.

Little bit expensive but quality and quantity of food is very good . And the malt is dog friendly too. I very sadisfied and will come back again whit my friends

Celebrating 5 years, my parents treated my husband and I to a lovely lunch at your restaurant. It was crazy busy in the car park, so we werent entirely sure wed get a table, luckily they had an upstairs and it was lovely and quiet too. (Ive been going there since a child and ever knew there was an upstairs, either did my parents) we were very impressed. Just before ordering our waitress said, As its so busy there is a 45mins wait. Yet when the food came, I think we waited something like 20mins. Again, very impressed, especially on a busy day. My self and my mum ordered the chicken stewers, my dad had the prawn stewers and my husband had the battered chicken dish. When the stewers came out..WOW, it was a size and a half.... and beautifully cooked. We all enjoyed our lunch very much and had a lovely dinning experience.

I have really enjoyed my time at the Malt Shovel and I am so glad that the Malt Shovel is my local pub! The managers Rhys and Ben as well as Tiarney, Sophie, Maddie, Katie, Brooke and Ronnie were so warm and welcoming! The atmosphere was so homely and the food was amazing, if you like seafood the Prawn skewers tasted amazing!! All of the staff were so nice! This pub is also dog friendly with an amazing view of the Canal! Cant recommend this pub enough!

The staff are very accommodating. The pub has great ambience and history, plus there is the appeal of the picturesque canal on its doorstep. Plus, with a qr code on the table you can order from outside and get table service!

Asked for starters and main together got starters. half an hour later had to ask three times for mains roast beef , potatoes and veg inedible gave beef to the dog. Waitress apologised for wait said she there was a mix up with the tables. Nice location for a drink but wont be having food again.

Exceptional service from the moment Tristan seated us. The sunny day, beautiful surroundings, and outstanding food made for a truly remarkable experience. Bravo! Parking: Very spacious however always quite busy but I guess that speaks volumes for the establishment.

Recieved a £100 fine for staying 39 minutes in car park for ONE pint on a dull Wednesday afternoon at 4. After manager contacted me the fine was cancelled within hours of receiving it. Excellent customer service and explanation of pub policy, now have no hesitation to return and try some food next time Parking: Be aware of parking policy and check vehicle number into registration system on entry

We have been coming to this pub for the last couple of years and normally enjoy our time. However on 1st Sept we (4 people) had an awful time. Pub was extremely busy due to the lovely weather and last Sunday before kids went back to school. Bar staff were slow and service was even slower. Had to send back drinks on numerous occasions because they got warm due to late delivery. Going directly to the bar was also a slower experience, the newly trained staff were struggling, until Sai turned up. Basil Fawlty should have turned up with his staff, would have added to the carnage. Anyway I m no Victor Mildrew, don t like moaning too much. I would have given one star but the duty manager Ben saved the day. Thank you Ben for understanding the issues we raised and reflecting that on the bill, you have our goodwill and we will return. Also a big thank you to Reece and Sai who went out of their way. Both are a credit to the Malt Shovel. Sanj and party

Very expensive here for what you get, Sunday Lunch - I had Trio of meats, It was literally 1 small piece of beef, Pork and Turkey for £22.50 !! The lady serving was nice and polite and I told her I was not happy and she said she would get the manager to come and see me but no one showed up !! Roast Potatoes were so tough and chewy as though they had been under the heat lamp for hours, and by the time the Veg had been brought to us the rest of the food was going cold, Nice pub but we wont be returning !!

Oh dear, you can change the look but not the service. This Sunday 3hrs yes 3hrs to serve a two course average pub meal not be going back in a hurry.

It was a birthday meal and the location was perfect. Nice, clean and bright. Far enough away from other guests that it felt intimate but not too much that we were not checked upon by staff. Great choice on the menu, really good about allergies etc. Great value - we were well fed and anywhere that provides extra gravy as a norm deserved a special mention. Staff were polite, cheerful and knew their stuff - all in all a great place we will come back. Oh great value too!!

Great food, way above the average one that you may get from a stabdard pub in the area. Very pleased with it. Good service from the staff. Vegetarian options: Had the grilled halloumi and peppers, plus the feta salad and toasted tortilla.

Absolutely thrilled to come to this lovely spot for the first time. Our party was 18 persons and we all had an amazing diner, very convenient to use the app to order and pay. Quick and kind service, delicate dishes, but generous. Good prices as well! Definitely will be back !!

Went as a get together with peeps from work, for an evening meal, the menu had a great choice, the service was spot on, ordering was made really easy from using the QR code, we sat outside, view was lovely of the canal , I only ventured inside only to go for a toilet, on route I found the inside cosy inviting, clean and full of charm, also the toilets spotless. The staff were very helpful and approachable, , there were around 15 of us, and everybody had a great time. Will definitely be back.

Ate here this evening 17/10/24 1 - No ice machine not working so just a G&T so not the same 2 - pint of juice for my grandson , dirty glass and black bits in the drink 3 - ordered pepper corn sauce got Burmese instead 4 - ordered rib eye - wasn t rib eye 5 - long wait for food , ordered my grandsons ice cream middle of eating main so it would come on time 6 - Not enough staff Staff were lovely , redecoration lovely & the food was good we had 40% of mains so good for the price .just the points above I won t be going back Thank you for the reply .. wont be coming back !!!

Popped in last night to see what they had done in the refurb, we were served by Tiarney, she was very happy to explain the menu. I had the scallops to start and they were amazing, highly recommend them. Fillet for main course and couldn t manage a sweet. The food was great and the decor is beautiful, highly recommended it.

It is a shame as it has been decorated lovely but the service is not very good. We waited a long long time for our food had to go and collect our own cutlery. Our table was not cleared the whole time we were there maybe 2 hours we moved to aclean table to finish our drinks seemed to be enough staff but not actually doing anything.

Refurbished since my last visit and really well done. Parking ample, layout great. Only issue no A/C but who could predict just how hot it would be! Food great especially the reccomended skewers but sad no pizza available. Service attentive and helpful prices as expected not a rip off but not like the old days, of course. We chose to dine inside. Wise choice when we saw outside diners queueing at the bar , while Reece, our lovely waiter delivered a scrumptious scewer dinner and was attentive, charming, knowledgeable and professional

Food was really well presented and tasted lovely. The new make over looks fantastic only thing that was a let down was the length of time we had to wait for food. The restaurant wasnt full but it was busy took almost 45 mins to get food which was OK as we werent in a rush but very hungry by the time it arrived. The veggie options on the menu were a bit limited and catered more towards Vegans but the person in our party managed to find something and said it was lovely. Our server Tash, she was so friendly and helpful. She was attentive, friendly and smiled throughout the evening. If all servers are like her then people will keep coming back.

Stopped by today for a drink with the wife around 2.00pm ish. The bar was totally unmanned. A lady waiting before me went into the restaurant to find a member of staff who came and served her but totally ignored me and walked off again. We therefore walked out in disgust. Was thinking of booking a table at the weekend but if this is the standard of service offered I won t be back.

I visited the malt shovel today and had a lovely meal and enjoyed the great new look. I was served by shirley and she couldnt be more helpful.

We ordered 4 cokes and said no ice. More than one. They fill the glass full of ice. So you get less for your money. Its an old trick. We did not order food. Service was OK. Atmosphere dead. Its not like it used to be. Food was going to order, but we decided not to. Car park needs disabled bays near to the pub. Not the end of the car park. We told the pub not to own the car park so the disabled bays have nothing to do with the pub. Not many people in the pub or out side. Wheelchair accessibility: Its not easy to get into the pub from the car park. If you use a Wheelchair and / or have problems walking 200 meaters or so on the way, from the disabled bays.

Food was not up to much. I had Penang curry, but this just looked bad. Taste was lacking too. Sticky rice looked it had been reheated in its mould several times before served. The curry had a skin like it had been heated and left and reheated. Chicken was dry. Just disappointing. Partner had the Aubergine lasagne, which she also did not like. Just disappointing.

I ve just been at the pub and it was my partner s birthday. I forgot cake . Rhys made the beautiful cake for him. Thank you so much to make the amazing evening for us.

Went for a lovely anniversary meal , served by a charming young man Reece . Very welcoming enthusiastic, very helpful, recommended some lovely food. He s a keeper very professional . We will definitely be coming back .

My husband and I went to the malt shovel today for a Sunday roast we were served by a lovely lady Shirley very helpful and polite we had a lovely dinner and definitely go back again very soon.

Nice refurb, poor experience. Took 40mins to get two tepid starters out. Not sorry to be leaving this area of London. This is the best pub around, and its still average at best.

Looks like a nice pub with a good menu at first glance. Good selection of draught beers. Food was mostly awful. King prawn skewer was cooked to death and was still shelled, so all the dry meat stuck to the shell and was impossible to eat. Side salad was good but very sweet. Pizza undercooked and bland. On the more expensive side of a chain pub and definitely wouldn t eat here again. Probably best to just have a drink here.

Currently closed for renovations. Good food and good beers, nice outdoor seating. There is a large dedicated car park adjacent, but be mindful to sign the parking register at the bar or expect a fine in the post. Bicycle parking is a bit ad hoc, we used the big white iron girder leading down from the street, its too wide for D locks. The attached gate is a possibility, but I dont know how often it is opened.

Unfortunately this usually good food pub was rubbish this time. They were closing this day for refurbishment and menu was very poor. Only food left when ordered was chicken which was so overcooked it was un eatable. Only good thing was plenty of puddings. Must say staff coped really well with all the complaints going on. Hopefully after refurb it will be back to usual

Had an amazing Kailua floater coffee served by Reece. Great Kickstart to the day. Bar staff all amazing and energetic first thing in the morning. Dog friendly, be silly to miss out on the experience.

We were a party of five on booking on a Sunday afternoon. They were very welcoming sorted out an inside table for us very quickly the food was great and the staff thanks Parking: You need to resigster your car at the bar

Beautiful little pub with a more of an upscale vibe found on the canal. Has a gorgeous peaceful view of the longboats passing by and a cozy interior decor. Food is delicious and not your typical pub food. The prices are a little higher than you would expect but thats because the food is a lot more refined than in most pubs. Usually not crowded and you have the option of sitting indoors or outside. Definitely recommend for anyone in the area looking to unwind with a beer or have a nice meal.

Popped in for a last minute drink just before closing.Was taken by surprise to find a rottweiler standing in front of us when we sat outside and the language from the locals was a bit too much but it was late and some people looked like they had spend the day there if you get my meaning.

Lovely place, the calmness of the canal and a cracking pint of proper job IPA. Soothing, medicinal, heart warming. I need to return there again soon. And I shall. Food

Lovely place and food was good of which meals arrived correct. However, staffing is clearly an issue, extremely understaffed, and took two hours for our table to receive all drinks and food orders were wrong. The waiter was clearly under pressure and did his best to help.

It has been our most fav local pub with always lovely welcoming staff, easy casual vibe. A perfect place for lunch( fantastic pub deal there), for a Sunday Roast or just an evening drink with friends. There is a large yet cosy dining area there divided in sections so it feels quite private most of the time. Also there is a plenty of room to have your dogs with you so they can also have a nice time when you enjoy your meal or drink. There are dog trests and water bowls available. Staff is super friendly with doggs too. Besides there is a beer garden and a grassy area with tables so on a sunny day dogs can be comfortable playing outside while you enjoy the view of the canal boats passing by and going about their bussiness as the pub is located by the Grand Union Canal Lock near a historic bridge. The whole scenery there is magical. I also recommend this place for Christmas meals by the real fire, wonderful cosy atmosphere with a glass of mulled wine! There is a parking available on site free of charge ( you must register your car at the bar)

Had a really lovely lunch here, food was delicious and the service was great. Ebony made sure we were well looked after and was super friendly!

Great pub with a very friendly service, tasty food and a great riverside view. We have just moved into the area and it will be our local pub, so I expect to be a regular customer:-) The staff really cares about customers even on a busy day. Theres a wide menu selection on both food and drinks and roast dinner is to die for! I highly recommend it!

Usually, I go there when Im in the area with family. Waitress didnt write anything down when we ordered. One of the mains came back completely wrong. We had to wait a good 10 minutes for that to be sorted. We ordered pudding, which took 25 minutes to arrive. I always leave a good tip, but none today Im afraid. May well be looking further afield next time.

Lovely pub, Great atmosphere and very friendly service, typical pub food. I didn t see a roast menu and the drinks one didn t have any prices on it.

We stopped for a bite to eat on Saturday, had a table outside, mushrooms for starters and a pie for main. The service was good.

Fantastic beer selection, delicious food, and impeccable service. Ramona, the bar manager, is incredibly helpful. I accidentally received a parking ticket due to forgetting to register my car, but Ramona swiftly resolved the issue in seconds. Grateful for her assistance!

Great dog friendly pub next to the canal. Beer garden is lovely in the summer. Various events going on including games night every Wednesday. Staff are friendly and the food is good.
